‘I’ve Always Been the Funny Fat Guy. Can I Be the Funny Skinny Guy?’

Josh Gad shared that he’s taking a GLP-1 medication for weight loss, praising it as a “miracle drug” that will help him “be there for my kids.”

“I’m on a GLP-1…this is the first time I’ve opened up about this,” the Frozen star, 43, told Dax Shepard and Monica Padman on the Jan. 27 episode of Armchair Expert.

“It has suppressed, in a great way, that noise … when I wake up, I feel hunger pains — and so much of that is psychological, right? — and what this does is it takes away that signal,” Gad said of the medication. GLP-1 is short for glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists, which work in the brain to impact satiety. Popular brands are Ozempic and Mounjaro.

“It is a miracle drug,” he said, sharing that he’d lost 40 lbs. on a different drug, but had to switch after his former medication caused him to develop diverticulitis, an inflammation of irregular building pouches in the colon, according to the Mayo Clinic.

“I was really bummed out because it was working incredibly for me and I had to switch,” said Gad, who just released his memoir In Gad We Trust. “So, like, I’m you know figuring out this new one, and it is life-changing, but it also doesn’t negate the fact that it can’t be in the place of having a healthy relationship with food.”

Gad added, “It can’t be in the place of having a healthy relationship with exercise.”

When Shepard asked if the conversation topic was putting Gad on the spot, the Broadway alum explained that he was “really happy” to share that he was taking the medicine, saying, “I’m having my own journey with it. Sometimes I feel like I’m cheating myself by doing this.”

Gad, who shares daughters Ava, 14, and Isabella, 10 with wife, Ida Darvish, said his wife is “not thrilled” that he takes it. When Shepard asked if “she’s worried you’re not going to confront the core thing that’s driving” weight gain, Gad said yes.

Gad explained he did have one concern with weight loss, saying, “I’ve always been the funny fat guy. Can I be the funny skinny guy? Can I be the hot leading man?”

“I don’t know that people would accept me as those things,” he said, adding that future roles are less of a concern “as I go on this journey of weight loss.”

“I’m not as worried about that because my primary goal is, I want to be there for my kids,” Gad said. “Everything else is bulls—t.”

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been known as the funny fat guy. I’ve used humor as a shield to deflect any negative comments about my weight, and it’s become a big part of my identity. But as I embark on my journey to lose weight and get healthier, I can’t help but wonder – can I still be the funny skinny guy?

Xfinity Launches Skinny Sports and News Streaming Channel Bundle

A post-Venu pay-TV landscape is beginning to take shape, with Comcast Xfinity launching a new skinny (or at least skinnier) streaming bundle of channels focused on sports and news programming.

The offering, Sports & News TV, is available to Xfinity internet customers for $70 per month, and includes all the major broadcast networks, as well as most (but not all) cable sports and news channels. it also includes a subscription to NBCUniversal’s Peacock, 300 hours of cloud DVR storage, and access to FAST channels directly in the app.

So what’s included? ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, Univision, Telemundo, and all the other local broadcast channels, as well as sports channels like ESPN, Fox Spots 1, Big Ten Network, Golf Channel, and SEC Network. What’s missing? The most glaring example is the Warner Bros. Discovery Channels of TNT, TBS, and TruTV, though NBCU’s USA Network is also absent.

It also includes every major cable news channel, including Fox News, MSNBC, CNBC, NewsNation, and somewhat perplexingly, CNN, which appears to be the only WBD channel represented in the package.

The untimely death of Venu earlier this month has led to a new world order in pay-TV, with Disney (whose ESPN channels form the bedrock of sports TV programming) now open to selling them in smaller more targeted bundles.

DirecTV was first out of the gate with MySports, which also costs $70 per month, and has many of the same channels (it does have TNT, TBS, and USA). Sources in the cable business say that they expect other pay-TV providers to follow suit with their own twists on it.

Still, $70 per month is a steep price compared to Venu’s sub-$45 target, and is not much of a savings to the likes of YouTube TV or Hulu with Live TV, which cost about $83 per month. But with consumers seemingly desiring skinnier options, Comcast is following DirecTV into the fray with something a bit more targeted: Get your entertainment elsewhere, but come to us for what’s live.

Alix Earle x FRAME Denim Skinny Jeans 2025

You’ve likely seen all iterations of skinny jeans—cigarette legs, slim cuts, jeggings, you name it. But in 2025, there’s a new version to set your eyes on: The Alix.

A collaboration between FRAME Denim and TikTok star Alix Earle, this new silhouette—which comes in two colorways, Flaunt and Black Coated, and is available starting January 23—banks on the comeback of skinny jeans in an era dominated by barrel legs and baggy fits. And, given that virtually everything the influencer touches turns into trending gold, it’ll be no surprise if the slimming style sells out.

Ahead of the collaboration’s launch, Earle spoke with ELLE.com to discuss working with FRAME Denim, what she learned while designing The Alix, and, most importantly, her thoughts on the return of skinny jeans.

Why do you think skinny jeans are due for a comeback?

I know that there’s been a wave of baggier jeans, which I also love, but I’ve always had a pair of skinny jeans in my closet, which is how this idea came to be. I wore skinny jeans to a football game in one of my videos, and I had so many people in my comments freaking out about the skinny jean. I thought that it would be such a fun moment to have a campaign [with FRAME Denim] around bringing the skinny jean back.

Skinny jeans most recently had a moment in the mid-2000s. How do you feel about trends from that era making a return?

I feel like fashion always tends to repeat itself in a sense, and I think trends are fun to follow. But something I’ve learned over the past few years, as I’m trying to get a little bit more into the fashion space, is to wear what works for you and what’s comfortable for you. That’s a really big thing I’m embracing with this campaign.

I definitely had a ton of skinny jeans when I was younger, and I probably style them a little bit differently now than I used to. But I think it’s always fun recycling old trends and bringing them into a new day and age.

What was the most important lesson you learned while working on this collab?

It’s OK to take risks. I think that’s a big thing in fashion as well—not being afraid to step outside of the box or step outside of the norm. Over the past few years, I’ve been able to work with many different stylists and experts in fashion, and the main thing I’ve taken away is just to do what makes you happy and embrace your own sense of style. If you’re following along with too many other people, then it gets a little lost in the sauce.

You had a say in the fit and feel of these jeans. For you, what stands out about The Alix?

This pair of skinny jeans is super comfortable. That’s a big thing. I think baggy jeans have become so trendy because of their comfort, so these are a nice fit. They’re not too low-waisted or high-waisted; I think they sit right in the middle and fit just right.

If you had to choose one of the two washes for The Alix, which would you choose, and why?

I would probably choose the darker wash—the Black Coated. I always love to wear a skinny jean with a heel and possibly on a night out, so I think those are the ones that I’ll probably end up reaching for more.

In general, how would you style these jeans?

They’re pretty versatile, but I’ll be sticking to a heel or boot on the bottom—I don’t think I would really be wearing them with sneakers, which I used to do in the past! On top, whatever I’m feeling. You can dress them up with a blazer or a jacket, or you can wear a baggy or tight shirt.

How do you think becoming an influencer has affected your personal style?

I’m still trying to figure out my personal style, but having a big audience has definitely helped me along the way, because I’m receiving so much feedback in real time. I think I went through a period where I was listening to the feedback a little too much and trying to please other people over myself, so being an influencer has definitely given me this newfound sense of confidence in what I like to wear and staying true to that. You’re definitely open to a lot more opinions—when [I wear] something that doesn’t look great, my audience tells me. It’s always good to have that kind of honest criticism, but overall, it’s helped me nail down exactly what I like to wear and feel confident in that.

With that in mind, how would you describe your personal style today?

I always love to integrate a little bit of sexiness into my style, but I still love to be classy and chic at times. That said, I’m still so young, so I definitely like to be playful. And I’m open to trying more things, too, like showing a little bit more skin—but that might be because I’ve lived in Miami for so long.

The Alix jeans reflect that personal style in that they can be worn in a classy, chic way, but they also lean into the sexiness with the tight fit of the skinny silhouette, and they’re flattering. I always think my butt looks better in skinny jeans than it does in baggy mom jeans. Also, they go great with heels—which, if I could wear a heel all the time, I would.

Alix Earle Brings Back Skinny Jeans in Topless Frame Campaign

Skinny jeans are so back.

On Jan. 23, Frame reintrouced the polarizing trend that divides generations with a modernized silhouette designed in collaboration with TikTok star and purveyor of Gen-Z culture, Alix Earle.

“The Alix” jeans, created with a slim (but stretchy) and high-waisted fit, take center stage in a sexy campaign with a rock-‘n’-roll-meets-indie-sleaze vibe photographed by beloved photographer duo Inez and Vinoodh.

Earle, 24, rocks some of her boldest glam looks yet in the images with her platinum blonde hair done up with Brigitte Bardot-level volume and her eyebrows bleached to barely there status.

In one photo, she poses topless, wearing nothing but the coated black skinnies ($148) with tall clog heels. She also models the classic mid-wash denim version ($128) with a striped T-shirt and black pumps.

Earle has been serving as a muse for Frame, co-created by Erik Torstensson and Jens Grede, since starring in the winter 2024 campaign. Gisele Bündchen and Amelia Gray Hamlin have also starred in past campaigns for the L.A.-based brand.

“Having ‘The Alix’ skinny jean available at Frame feels like a major milestone moment for me. I’ve secretly kept a pair in my closet for years, and when I first met with Erik in 2023 to discuss a potential Frame collaboration, I couldn’t resist pitching the idea of bringing this classic (although some might say controversial) wardrobe staple back,” Earle shares in a press release.

She adds that the design process was “fun” especially because she’s “all for making or breaking the rules in fashion.”

On the collaboration Torstensson, who is also Frame’s creative director, adds in a statement: “Frame was conceived and launched in 2012 with one jean, the skinny de Jeanne, our take on the skinny jean in premium denim in classic blue. It became a best-seller globally, launched our wholesale business and was worn by all the supermodels off duty. To be able to create the comeback of the silhouette, with Alix Earle, the content creator of our generation, feels so right.”

Alix Earle brings back ‘controversial’ skinny jeans trend with new Frame collab
