  • ‘Saturday Night Live’ season 50 schedule: Who is hosting ‘SNL’ tonight?

Season 50 of “Saturday Night Live” premiered on September 28, 2024, and is set to conclude on May 17, 2025. So, who will be hosting the momentous season’s remaining episodes?

“SNL” announced on Friday, Jan. 10, that Dave Chappelle and Timothée Chalamet would lead the next two shows. Chappelle hosted on Saturday, Jan. 18, while rapper GloRilla served as musical guest. Chalamet is slated to serve as both host and musical guest during the Saturday, Jan. 25, episode of “SNL.”

The NBC sketch comedy series has not yet announced the next host after Chalamet. That is because, there won’t be a new “SNL” episode on Saturday, Feb. 1, or Saturday, Feb. 8, per NBC New York.

The outlet reported that “SNL” will return with a new episode on Saturday, Feb. 15, one day before the three-hour “Saturday Night Live 50th Anniversary Special” is set to air.

“SNL” will likely announce the host for the Feb. 15 episode the week of Monday, Feb. 3. As NBC is planning for a celebratory weekend ahead of the Sunday, Feb. 16, anniversary special, it’s likely that the host of the Feb. 15 show will be either a legendary “SNL” alum or a fan-favorite host who has helmed the show multiple times.

The 50th anniversary special will feature current and former “SNL” cast members as well as notable hosts and musical acts from throughout the show’s history.

Drew Barrymore confirmed her involvement during a Thursday, Jan. 23, interview with Entertainment Weekly. The actress and talk show host is a member of SNL’s elite Five-Timers club and still holds the record for the youngest host. She was just 7 when she first appeared on the show in 1982.

“I don’t know to what extent, but I will be there,” Barrymore told EW of the anniversary special. “I’ve hosted six times, so if it’s just to be there, that’s enough for me. And if anybody needs me, you can put me in, coach! I don’t know what will happen, but I’ll be there.”

Chalamet’s “Saturday Night Live” appearance airs on NBC on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 11:30 p.m. EST and can be streamed on Peacock.

The “Saturday Night Live 50th Anniversary Special” airs on NBC on Sunday, Feb. 16, at 8 p.m. EST and can be streamed on Peacock.

  • Christopher Walken Told Will Ferrell ‘More Cowbell’ Sketch on ‘SNL’ Had ‘Ruined My Life’

April 5, 2000 was a momentous day in comedy history. That night, “Saturday Night Live” paid tribute to Blue Oyster Cult’s 1976 jam “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” and one iconic bit of percussion.

    The cowbell.

    More from IndieWire

The hit song, a latter-day bit of psychedelia, infamously had a repeated cowbell on the track. In the sketch, which of course anyone reading this has seen, Christopher Walken’s supposedly legendary producer “Bruce Dickerson” keeps beseeching cowbell player Gene Frenkle (Will Ferrell, in a too-tight shirt) to play more emphatically: “I gotta a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell.”

In Peacock’s “SNL 50: Beyond Saturday Night” docuseries (via the New York Post), Ferrell, who wrote the “More Cowbell” sketch, opens up about how much Walken has come to resent the ubiquity of it. It all came out when Ferrell visited Walken when the actor was appearing in Martin McDonagh’s “A Behanding in Spokane” on Broadway in 2010.

“I went to see [Walken] backstage, and he’s like, ‘You know, you’ve ruined my life… every show, people bring cowbells for the curtain call and bang them,” Ferrell said. “It’s quite disconcerting.’”

For what it’s worth, Walken did not appear in the installment of “SNL 50: Beyond Saturday Night” focused on “More Cowbell.” But he has separately said, “I don’t understand why it follows me around like it does…. It’s kind of run its course.”

Jimmy Fallon, who, bearded and spaced out played one of the Oyster Cult band members, elaborated that the extremity of the sketch was really pushed in the live, on-air performance far beyond anything they had attempted in the dress rehearsal. “[Walken] upped his game,” Fallon added. “He was almost doing an impersonation of Christopher Walken. He was talking like how no human being would talk, ever.”

For Ferrell, the sketch emerged organically from ruminations he’d had since the song came out. “I had the thought even as a kid, ‘What is the life of the guy playing the cowbell?’ I guess that was germinating for decades in my head.”

As far as the original track is concerned, there are conflicting accounts of who actually played the cowbell, which was overdubbed into the recording. At least two members of the band, as well as the producer David Lucas, claim that they played it. But lead guitarist and band co-founder Donald “Buck Dharma” Roeser is a fan of “More Cowbell.”

“We all thought it was phenomenal,” Roeser told the Washington Post in 2005. “We’re huge Christopher Walken fans. I’ve probably seen it 20 times and I’m still not tired of it.”

In a recent interview, Christopher Walken revealed that the iconic “More Cowbell” sketch on Saturday Night Live had “ruined” his life. The sketch, which featured Walken as a record producer urging the band to add more cowbell to their song, has become a classic moment in SNL history.

Walken explained that he is constantly approached by fans who quote lines from the sketch to him, leading him to feel like he can never escape the shadow of the cowbell. He jokingly lamented, “I can’t walk into a music store without someone handing me a cowbell and asking me to sign it.”

Despite the sketch’s impact on his life, Walken admitted that he still finds it funny and appreciates the lasting impact it has had on pop culture. And while he may never fully escape the cowbell, he remains grateful for the opportunity to be a part of such a beloved SNL moment.

  • Drew Barrymore confirms she’ll be at ‘SNL’ 50th anniversary special

Drew Barrymore will be in attendance during Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary special next month.

“I don’t know to what extent, but I will be there,” she tells Entertainment Weekly. “I’m in the Five-Timers Club and still the youngest host.”

The actress, who teamed up with Orlando Bloom for MSC Cruises’ forthcoming Super Bowl ad, doesn’t know in what capacity she’s going to be involved in the show, but is ready for whatever opportunities come her way. “I’ve hosted six times, so if it’s just to be there, that’s enough for me,” she says. “And if anybody needs me, you can put me in, coach! I don’t know what will happen, but I’ll be there.”

Barrymore was only 7 when she first hosted Saturday Night Live, following her turn as Gertie in Steven Spielberg’s E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial in 1982. She has since returned to Studio 8H to host an additional five times in 1999, 2001, 2004, 2007, and 2009, and is one of the small group of hosts in its prestigious Five-Timers Club.

    Drew Barrymore on ‘SNL’.

    Saturday Night Live/Youtube

Looking back at her first appearance on the show, Barrymore credits former SNL writer and cast member Tim Kazurinsky with making her feel comfortable on set. “For whatever reason, they just felt like we were a really good match,” she says, noting that he is also featured in her opening monologue. “He was very kind and nurturing and funny, and he was really good to me.”

Despite being so young, Barrymore doesn’t recall ever really feeling nervous on the show — except when asking Spielberg for permission to do a Mr. T and E.T.-themed sketch starring her and Eddie Murphy. “We were not going to do it unless Steven gave the greenlight and the blessing, and he was there, and he brought Robin Williams with him,” she recalls. “And that really intimidated me, because I was such a Robin Williams fan that I was like, ‘Ooh, now I have the nerves.’” (The sketch made it to air in the end.)

Sign up for Entertainment Weekly‘s free daily newsletter to get breaking news, exclusive first looks, recaps, reviews, interviews with your favorite stars, and more.

In general, though, Barrymore says she didn’t feel that different from any of the other cast members on set. “I didn’t feel like a kid at that point,” she admits. “I’d been working since I was 11 months old, and nobody treated me like a kid there, but they were still kind and sweet and familial without being like parental, patronizing, and they just made me feel like I fit in, and I loved it.”

Now, however, she’s amazed that she pulled off the feat at such a young age. “I have two daughters: one’s going to be 11, one’s going to be 13. None of this makes sense to me. They’re twice my age [as a child star], and I don’t see how they would do it,” she confesses, referring to her daughters, Frankie and Olive. “So it is weird, and it didn’t feel weird at the time. It felt so normal.”

It was on the E.T. press tour that Barrymore got her first taste of international travel, which she says “changed my life” forever. That experience is why she chose to team up with Bloom for MSC Cruises’ Super Bowl ad, which showcases the pair going on an exciting holiday together aboard its newest flagship, MSC World America.

“I was like, ‘Okay, so somebody could get on this boat, go, be taken places, [and] be shown the world,’” she says. “And now most importantly, let’s look at the price point, because that’s going to be really important to me…. And I saw the prices, and I was like, ‘Okay, attainable, affordable.’ And then it’s memories you get from travel and trips. So I just thought, ‘Alright, I’m in.’”

The only problem? Barrymore and Bloom had never actually met prior to partnering for the ad. “He was like, ‘Let’s get together and speak beforehand so that we can know each other going into it.’ And I was like, ‘We’re going to have such a good time, because that is the sign of a good person,’” Barrymore explains. “We’ve all done jobs where we show up on the day, and you kind of go, ‘Okay, here we go.’ But showing up having gotten to know him a little bit just felt totally different.”

Their chemistry can be seen in a teaser clip (above) that shows Barrymore belting out her own rendition of Madonna’s “Holiday” at a piano — much to Bloom’s chagrin. “I think we’re companions,” she says of the pair’s connection in the commercial. “Also the juxtaposition of America and Europe, okay, I get that representation, but we’re just, you know, a male and female who are bouncing off of each other, and there’s a mission, but there’s a lightness, there’s a joy.” It sounds like the start to an unforgettable holiday.

MSC World America sets sail from PortMiami on Apr. 9, 2025, with the Europe-based company launching cruises out of Galveston, Texas, and to Alaska later in the year. To learn more about the experience, click here.

Catch the full ad during Super Bowl LIX on Sunday, Feb. 9.

  • Colin Jost says Scarlett Johansson was ‘shocked’ by ‘SNL’ vagina joke

Colin Jost is explaining how his wife, Scarlett Johansson, really felt when he joked about her on a recent episode of Saturday Night Live.

It happened when Jost and cohost Michael Che were anchoring the “Weekend Update” segment in the last episode of the year, in which the two tell jokes that were written for them for by the other and that they haven’t seen. As viewers saw on the Dec. 21 episode, this time it referred to Marvel actress Johansson, who Jost married in 2020.

“Scarlett was genuinely so shocked,” Jost told the host on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “Because I was obviously surprised about everything, but they gave her a heads up. They were like, ‘Hey, would you be okay if Michael made a little, like, kind of vagina joke at some point?’ And she was like, ‘Sure! You know, whatever. I’m open to it.’”

    Watch the full sketch below.

Jost couldn’t help but laugh as he read the words on the air last month. He said that he didn’t mind that roast beef sandwiches had been removed from Costco’s menu, because he’d “been eating roast beef every night since my wife had the kid.”

In the moment, Jost laughed so hard he put his head in his hands. Johansson, who was watching backstage but was shown to the audience, dropped her mouth open.

Sign up for Entertainment Weekly‘s free daily newsletter to get breaking TV news, exclusive first looks, recaps, reviews, interviews with your favorite stars, and more.

“So then, when it was like the opposite,” Jost said, “I didn’t know where it was going. And then the graphic came up.”

He continued, “So Scarlett is backstage like, ‘Oh, my God! That’s what it is.”

Jost and Johansson married in 2020 and welcomed a son, Cosmo, in August 2021. (She’s also mom to 10-year-old daughter Rose, whom she shares with ex-husband Romain Dauriac.)

The couple met on one of the occasions when the star of movies including Jojo Rabbit, Lost in Translation, and Ghost World appeared on SNL. She’s hosted an impressive six times, so surely she can take a joke.

Jost, a “Weekend Update” anchor since 2014, agreed with Fallon that his delivery of the funny lines was “a legitimate, live moment” and that he wasn’t acting.

“I can’t act that well,” he deadpanned.

The Jan. 25 episode of SNL will be hosted by Timothée Chalamet, who plays Bob Dylan in the new biopic A Complete Unknown. He will also be the musical guest.

Saturday Night Live airs at Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. ET/8:30 p.m. PT on NBC.

In a recent interview with Howard Stern, “Saturday Night Live” star Colin Jost revealed that his wife, Scarlett Johansson, was “shocked” by a vagina joke he made during a Weekend Update segment.

During the interview, Jost explained that he had made a joke about a study that found women are more likely to orgasm if their feet are warm. He then joked that the study was actually funded by Ugg boots.

Johansson, who was in the audience at the time, was reportedly surprised by the joke and asked Jost about it later. Jost said he assured her that it was just a joke and not meant to be taken seriously.

Despite the initial shock, Jost said that Johansson has a great sense of humor and is supportive of his work on “SNL.”

It’s always interesting to get a behind-the-scenes look at the dynamics between Jost and Johansson, and it’s clear that they have a fun and playful relationship.

  • SNL Cast Members’ Film Sees Unexpected Streaming Success Two Years Later

More than a year after its premiere, a comedy film that was written and starred by several Saturday Night Live cast members has surprisingly become a streaming sensation. With different degrees of popularity, NBC’s long-running sketch comedy program has served as a springboard for 11 feature films based on some of its most cherished routines and characters since its debut in 1975. The Blues Brothers, starring Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi, was the first motion picture to be released. It made over $115 million at the box office, well above its $27 million production budget.

The success of Wayne’s World (1992), starring Mike Myers and Dana Carvey, encouraged Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels to seek other popular character film adaptations. Following this, films like It’s Pat, Stuart Saves His Family, A Night at the Roxbury, Superstar, and The Ladies Man were made, and in 1993, Coneheads brought back characters from the 1970s.

Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure Of Foggy Mountain has emerged as an unexpected success in the streaming arena.

It Holds the 7th Position on Peacock’s Top 10

In the streaming space, Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain has become an unexpected success. The 2023 movie, which was made by and stars the comedy group Please Don’t Destroy, which joined SNL in 2021, tells a fictionalised story of the group’s search for wealth hidden inside a neighbouring mountain. Ben Marshall, John Higgins, Martin Herlihy, former SNL writer Conan O’Brien, Meg Stalter, X Mayo, Nichole Sakura, Cedric Yarbrough, Sunita Mani, and SNL cast member Bowen Yang also appear in the movie.

Over a year after its premiere, the movie has now experienced unexpected popularity on streaming services. Just yesterday, Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain unexpectedly made its way into Peacock’s Top 10 in the United States, according to FlixPatrol. It rates higher than Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda 2, and Speak No Evil, but lower than Despicable Me 4, Twisters, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, Penguins of Madagascar, Conclave, and Sing 2.

What Has Contributed to the Streaming Success of Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure Of Foggy Mountain?

SNL Recently Resumed After Its Holiday Break

Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain was first overlooked when it was made available for streaming on Peacock in November 2023. However, the movie surprisingly made an appearance in Peacock’s Top 10 in January 2024. Although the causes of this spike are still unknown, it might coincide with Dave Chappelle’s hosting of Saturday Night Live’s 50th season premiere on January 18. Whatever the reason, even though it comes more than a year later, it seems that Peacock subscribers are enjoying Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain for its deliciously ridiculous humour.

Saturday Night Live (SNL) has been the breeding ground for some of the biggest comedy stars in Hollywood, and now one of its former cast members is seeing unexpected streaming success two years after the release of their film.

Former SNL cast member, John Mulaney, who left the show in 2012, wrote and starred in the film “John Mulaney & The Sack Lunch Bunch,” which was released in 2019. The film received positive reviews upon its release, but it didn’t quite make a big splash at the box office.

However, fast forward two years later, and “John Mulaney & The Sack Lunch Bunch” is now experiencing a surge in popularity on streaming platforms. With more people staying home and looking for new content to watch, the quirky and nostalgic film has found a new audience and is resonating with viewers in a whole new way.

Fans of Mulaney’s stand-up comedy and SNL work are rediscovering the film and falling in love with its unique blend of humor, music, and heartfelt moments. The film’s catchy songs and hilarious sketches are making it a favorite among comedy lovers, and it’s quickly becoming a cult classic.

The unexpected streaming success of “John Mulaney & The Sack Lunch Bunch” just goes to show that sometimes, great content takes time to find its audience. And in this case, it’s clear that Mulaney’s comedic genius is standing the test of time and continuing to delight fans in new and unexpected ways.

  • Popular ‘SNL’ Trio Please Don’t Destroy’s Comedy Film is a Streaming Hit

An underrated and forgotten improv comedy film from 2023 is finding new life on streaming as Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain is a hit on Peacock. The film was directed by Saturday Night Live veteran Paul Briganti, produced by Judd Apatow, and starred the SNL sketch-comedic group known as Please Don’t Destroy, actors and writers Martin Herily, John Higgins, and Ben Marshall. It currently sits at number nine on Peacock’s Top 10 streaming chart.

Their first film, Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain is essentially a feature-length version of the trio’s comedic skits. The story follows three childhood friends who try to come back together to rekindle their friendship by trying to find a treasure that they had been hunting for as children.

    The official plot reads:

In PLEASE DON’T DESTROY: THE TREASURE OF FOGGY MOUNTAIN, John Goodman narrates the adventure of Ben, Martin, and John, three childhood friends turned deadbeat co-workers, who fend off hairless bears, desperate park rangers (Meg Stalter and X Mayo) and a hypocritical cult leader (Bowen Yang) in the hopes of finding a priceless treasure, only to discover that finding the treasure is the easiest part of their journey.

A couple of big stars also appear in the film, including Conan O’Brien and Goodman, along with Stranger Thing’s Gaten Matarazzo as himself.

The film originally debuted on Peacock back on Nov. 17, 2023 and currently sits at an abysmal 42% by critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but the audience rating is a sizzling 90%. On IMDb, it has a 6 / 10 average rating. Brian Tallerico gave the film 2.5 / 4 stars and wrote that “there’s a hysterical short film in here—something longer than their SNL sketches to be sure, but not quite feature-length.”

MovieWeb’s Olly Dyche enjoyed the film, writing:

“[The film] is a charming, rip-roaring comedy about three friends seeking to rekindle their friendship. The chemistry between the cast and their excellent comedic timing makes each anecdote or frivolous line of dialogue punchy and effective… The pacing here is quick, and the jokes come fast, making ‘The Treasure of Foggy Mountain’ easily one of the best comedies of the year.”

    Who is Please Don’t Destroy?

Please Don’t Destroy was started in 2017 by friends Herily, Higgins, and Marshall while attending school at NYU. The name comes from an act called Please Don’t Destroy My Farm. They have performed their skits around the country and joined the New York Comedy Festival in 2018.

  • SNL Cast Members’ Movie Becomes Surprise Streaming Success 2 Years After Release

A comedy movie starring and written by multiple Saturday Night Live cast members has suddenly become a streaming success over a year after its release. Since its debut in 1975, NBC’s long-running sketch comedy show has served as the springboard for 11 feature-length films based on some of the show’s most popular sketches and characters, which have seen mixed success. Their first foray into film came in 1980 with Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi’s The Blues Brothers, which earned over $115 million at the box office against its $27 million budget.

The success of Wayne’s World in 1992, starring Mike Myers and Dana Carvey, encouraged Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michael to produce more film adaptations featuring popular characters. He brought back 1970s characters for Coneheads in 1993, followed by It’s Pat, Stuart Saves His Family, A Night at the Roxbury, Superstar, and The Ladies Man. However, most of these movies struggled both critically and commercially, with It’s Pat performing so poorly that Touchstone Pictures pulled it from theaters just a week after its release.

Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure Of Foggy Mountain Becomes A Surprise Streaming Success

    It Ranks 7th On Peacock’s Top 10

Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain has become a surprise streaming success. Written by and starring Please Don’t Destroy, who joined SNL in 2021, the 2023 film follows a fictionalized version of the comedy troupe as they embark on an adventure to find treasure hidden in a nearby mountain. Other than Martin Herlihy, John Higgins, and Ben Marshall, the film features SNL cast member Bowen Yang, former SNL writer Conan O’Brien, Meg Stalter, X Mayo, Nichole Sakura, Cedric Yarbrough, and Sunita Mani.

Now, over a year after its release, the movie has become a surprise streaming success. Per FlixPatrol, Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain suddenly appeared on Peacock’s Top 10 in the United States a day ago. It ranks below Despicable Me 4, Twisters, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, Penguins of Madagascar, Conclave, Sing 2 and above Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda 2, and Speak No Evil.

Why Is Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure Of Foggy Mountain Suddenly A Streaming Success?

SNL Recently Returned From Its Holiday Hiatus

Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain was sent straight to streaming on Peacock in November 2023 and was largely overlooked. However, in January 2024, the movie has suddenly appeared on Peacock’s Top 10. It’s unclear why, though it could coincide with the return of Saturday Night Live season 50 on January 18 after its holiday hiatus, hosted by Dave Chappelle. Whatever the reason may be, Peacock subscribers are seemingly enjoying Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain for all its hilariously dumb fun, even if it’s over a year late.

  • Colin Jost shares Scarlett Johansson’s reaction to ‘SNL’ joke

Colin Jost shared his wife Scarlett Johansson’s reaction to his crude “Saturday Night Live” joke about her.

“I’m in trouble, I think, with a lot of people,” the comedian said on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” Monday. “Scarlett was genuinely so shocked.”

Jost, 42, revealed that although the “Black Widow” star, 40, was “obviously surprised,” the NBC sketch comedy show’s team gave her a heads-up.

“They were like, ‘Hey, would you be OK if Michael [Che] made a little, like, kind of vagina joke at some point?’” he said. “She was like, ‘Sure, you know, whatever, I’m open to it.’”

The “Pop Culture Jeopardy!” host confessed he “didn’t know where it was going, and then the graphic came up for Arby’s.”

“And so Scarlett is backstage like, ‘Oh, my God! That’s what it is?’” he recalled.

Fallon called it a “legitimate live moment,” adding that Jost was not “acting at all.”

“I was not. I can’t act that well,” the stand-up star responded.

During the Dec. 21, 2024, episode of “SNL,” Jost and Che, 41, read jokes that they had written for each other during their “Weekend Update” segment.

“I want to dedicate this next joke to my boo, Scarlett Johansson,” Jost hesitantly began as the camera cut to his wife, who watched from backstage.

“No! No! Oh my gosh, she’s so genuinely worried!” he added while breaking character.

“Hey boo, y’all know Scarlett just celebrated her 40th birthday, which means I’m about to get up out of there,” the “Fly Me to the Moon” actor continued, unable to control his laughter as Johansson appeared confused.

“We just had a kid together, and y’all ain’t see no pictures of him yet ’cause he black as hell.”

After a doctored photo of the “Avengers” star and Jost posing with a black child popped up on the screen, the comic could not control his laughter.

“I be eating roast beef every night since my wife had the kid. … Nah, nah, I’m just playin’, baby. You know I don’t go downtown! Shiz! That’s gay as hell!”

Colin Jost, co-head writer and Weekend Update co-anchor on Saturday Night Live, recently shared his fiancée Scarlett Johansson’s reaction to a joke he made about her on the show.

During a recent episode, Jost made a playful jab at Johansson, saying, “Scarlett Johansson is set to star in a new film called ‘Bride,’ where she plays a woman created to be the ideal wife. The film is actually a remake of Scarlett’s first marriage.”

Jost revealed that he was nervous about how Johansson would react to the joke, but to his relief, she found it hilarious. “She has a great sense of humor and knows that it’s all in good fun,” Jost said.

Fans of the couple were delighted to hear that Johansson took the joke in stride, showing that their relationship is built on trust and a shared sense of humor.

It’s always refreshing to see a celebrity couple who can laugh at themselves and not take things too seriously. Kudos to Colin Jost and Scarlett Johansson for keeping the laughter alive both on and off the screen.

  • Colin Jost Says Scarlett Johansson Was ‘Shocked’ by Dirty ‘SNL’ Jokes

Colin Jost’s wife Scarlett Johansson might just be the best sport in the world.

The Weekend Update co-host found himself in the hot seat during the Christmas episode of Saturday Night Live, when he was forced to crack jokes about his A-list wife by his co-host Michael Che as Johansson, 40, watched from backstage.

“Are you in trouble with Scarlett?” Jimmy Fallon asked Jost on his Monday, Jan. 20, appearance on The Tonight Show

“I’m in trouble, I think, with a lot of people,” Jost, 42, quipped, noting, “Scarlett was genuinely so shocked.”

He went on to share that while he didn’t get to see the jokes in advance, the SNL team had given his wife a “heads up,” about the R-rated content.

“They were like, ‘Hey, would you be okay if Michael made a little, like, kind of vagina joke at some point?’” Jost shared. “She was like, ‘Sure, whatever, I’m open to it.’ I didn’t know where it was going.”

But things on SNL came to a head when the show flashed an image of a roast beef sandwich from Costco on the screen.

“Scarlett was backstage like, ‘Oh my god, that’s what it is!’” Jost laughed, adding that his response to the whole exchange was genuine. “I can’t act that well.”

During the Christmas episode of SNL, Jost and Che have a tradition of swapping jokes that they write for each other that the other then has to read aloud. In this year’s episode, which aired on Dec. 21, the majority of Che’s were about Jost’s Avengers star wife.

“I wanna dedicate this next joke to my boo, Scarlett Johansson,” Jost read. “Hey, boo, y’all know Scarlett just celebrated her 40th birthday, which means, I’m about to get up out of there.”

The couple, who got married in 2020, share son Cosmo, 3. The actress also shares daughter Rose with ex-husband Romain Dauriac.

“He’s a good guy… He is a very, very, very great guy. I’m extremely lucky,” Johansson said of Jost during a November 2024 appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark. “He’s a kind person and he’s hilarious and thoughtful and loving and he’s a great dad and I love him. I feel very, very lucky. But he’s also, he’s got his naughty side. He keeps it interesting.”

Colin Jost Reveals Scarlett Johansson’s Reaction to Dirty ‘SNL’ Jokes

In a recent interview, comedian Colin Jost opened up about his fiancee Scarlett Johansson’s reaction to some of the risque jokes he tells on “Saturday Night Live.” Jost, who serves as a head writer and Weekend Update co-anchor on the long-running sketch comedy show, admitted that Johansson was initially “shocked” by some of the more explicit content.

“Scarlett is a very classy and sophisticated woman, so some of the more dirty jokes on ‘SNL’ definitely caught her off guard at first,” Jost revealed. “But she understands that it’s all in good fun and part of the show’s irreverent humor.”

Jost went on to explain that Johansson has since come to appreciate the humor and creativity that goes into crafting the jokes on “SNL.” “She’s a good sport about it and has a great sense of humor herself,” he added.

Despite Johansson’s initial surprise, it seems that she has embraced Jost’s comedic work on the show and supports him in his endeavors. The couple announced their engagement in May 2019 and have been together since 2017.

Fans of both Jost and Johansson will no doubt be eager to see how their relationship continues to unfold both on and off the screen.
