Kings vs. Thunder Preview: That Imagine Dragons Song sucks
Things might not all be normal in the Kingdom right now, but this team still has basketball games in front of them that need winning. After dropping what should have been one of their easier games against a shorthanded Philadelphia 76ers squad, the Kings now face one of their toughest tests of the season in the 37-9 Oklahoma City Thunder. Oklahoma City has lost just three games at homes all season and thrashed the Kings 130-109 in their sole previous matchup this season. Toppling them will be no easy feat.
Let’s talk Kings basketball!
When: Saturday, February 1st, 5:00 PM
Where: Paycom Center, Oklahoma City, OK
TV: NBC Sports California
Radio: Sactown Sports 1140 AMFor Your Consideration
The Thunder might just be the best team in the NBA this season, even though they’re a couple of wins behind the Cleveland Cavaliers for the overall #1 seed. Oklahoma City has become turbocharged on both ends of the floor this year, where they’re #1 in defensive rating and #6 in offensive rating. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is probably the only one who could threaten Nikola Jokic for the MVP award at this point, as he’s leading the league in scoring at 32.5 points a game on 52.8% from the field to go with 6 assists, 5.2 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks. Jalen Williams is also having a fantastic year, having been recently named an All-Star for the first time.
This Thunder roster is stacked from top to bottom, possessed with elite top end talent and one of the deepest benches in the league. They’re so deep that they only have two players (SGA & Jalen) that average over 30 minutes a game, and nobody averages 35. They’ve managed to hold onto the best record in the West despite losing arguably their second best player, Chet Holmgren, 10 games into the season. Their 11.9 net rating is 3rd in NBA history to only the 1995-96 and 1996-97 Bulls. That means their average margin of victory is greater even than the Warriors team who won 73 games. In fact, they have yet to lose a game by double digits. How Sam Presti isn’t the highest paid GM in the league or being poached to be the highest paid GM in the league is beyond me.
If the Thunder have any weakness, it’s their relative size and rebounding. For an elite team, they’re only 27th in Defensive Rebounding Rate and 21st in Offensive Rebound Rate. However, they make up for it by not even giving you the opportunity to shoot. Oklahoma City leads the NBA in steals at 11.2 a game. In fact, three of the NBA’s top 6 players in steals per game are on the Thunder (SGA, Jalen and Cason Wallace). The Thunder use those steals to produce a league leading 23.2 points off turnovers, while on the other hand barely turning the ball over themselves (they average the 2nd fewest turnovers in the league).
It’s going to take a near perfect game for the Kings to win this one on the road, and the Kings have been playing anything but perfect basketball as of late. With the trade rumors swirling as well, that has to factor in as a distraction this team doesn’t need right now. But if they hope to make the playoffs, they need to start making up some ground. I’m hoping for a big game from Domantas Sabonis personally, as he took just 6 shots against the 76ers the other day. The Kings need to do a better job of featuring him against smaller teams as a primary offensive weapon. Sabonis also needs to stop passing up open threes (something he did multiple times against Philadelphia) considering he’s one of the team’s best shooters. I’d also like to see Keegan Murray continue to be aggressive in attacking the basket. He’s been getting to the rim with some regularity lately, and he’s also finishing with authority. The Kings guards in particular (Fox, Monk, Ellis) need to watch the careless passes with Oklahoma City’s ballhawks watching, they’ll force you to make plenty of mistakes on your own without factoring in self-inflicted wounds too. It’s going to be tough, but a win tonight would do a lot for morale and momentum going forward.
Prediction
DeMar DeRozan has a throwback game and scores a season-high 42 points, including the game winner over SGA.
Kings 117, Thunder 116
The highly anticipated matchup between the Sacramento Kings and Oklahoma City Thunder is just around the corner, and fans are buzzing with excitement. However, there’s one thing that has been bothering many basketball enthusiasts – that awful Imagine Dragons song that plays during Thunder games. As soon as the opening chords of “Thunder” start blaring through the speakers, it’s hard not to cringe. The repetitive lyrics and generic beat make it one of the most annoying sports anthems in recent memory. And yet, for some reason, it continues to be played at Thunder games, much to the dismay of fans.
But fear not, Kings fans. Despite having to endure the torture of that terrible song, Sacramento is ready to take on the Thunder and come out victorious. With a talented roster led by De’Aaron Fox and Buddy Hield, the Kings are poised to give Oklahoma City a run for their money.
So, as we gear up for this exciting matchup, let’s all collectively agree on one thing – that Imagine Dragons song sucks. But hey, at least we have some great basketball to look forward to. Let’s go Kings!

How a Brandon Lake Song Got Jelly Roll to Worship Again
Brandon Lake and Jelly Roll are continuing to tease their upcoming collaboration, “Hard Fought Hallelujah,” and the country singer is opening up about how the original song impacted him.
“The first time I heard ‘Hard Fought Hallelujah,’ I haven’t had a record touch me like that in so long,” Jelly Roll — whose real name is Jason Bradley DeFord — said in a new video. “It’s been years since I worshiped the way that I worshiped to that song. Because I carry my faith with me, but I’m also struggling, and very honest and open about that.”
Jelly Roll sat down with Lake to explain why he wanted to collaborate with the worship artist in the first place.
“I’ve been so bitter and hurt by the Church and their dogma that I created my own now,” Jelly Roll said. “Because I believe music meets us where we are. I needed that record when I heard it, but then to double back and be like, ‘Yo, there’s a chance you could work on this record with this guy,’ and I’m like, ‘Whoa, God sent me the record for me.’ Not only does He want me to listen to it and worship, He wants me to live with it and learn.”
The collaboration is set to be released on Feb. 7.
Brandon Lake, a popular Christian music artist, recently released a powerful song called “House of Miracles” that had a profound impact on rapper Jelly Roll’s life. Jelly Roll, known for his gritty and raw lyrics, had been struggling with his faith and had stopped going to church for years. However, after hearing Lake’s song, something stirred within him and he felt compelled to give worship another chance. In an interview, Jelly Roll shared how the lyrics of “House of Miracles” spoke to him on a deep level and reignited his passion for God. He was moved by the message of hope and redemption in the song, and it inspired him to seek out a local church and start attending services again. Jelly Roll admitted that he had lost his way spiritually, but thanks to Brandon Lake’s music, he found his way back to God.
The collaboration between Brandon Lake and Jelly Roll may seem unlikely, but it just goes to show the power of music to touch hearts and inspire change. Lake’s song not only touched the lives of his Christian audience but also reached someone who may have never considered listening to Christian music before. This story serves as a reminder that music has the power to transcend boundaries and bring people together in unexpected ways.

The one song Robert Plant finds most difficult to sing
(Credits: Far Out / YouTube Still)
Trying to collect the greatest singers in the history of music and you’d be well within your rights to select the finest performers from the realms of soul, pop and folk before you began dredging the rock and roll waters. The genre certainly has a whole chunk of great performers, and Robert Plant is an easy pick to top the list of greatest rock vocalists.
Everyone knows his wild banshee wail that can be found on tracks like ‘The Immigrant Song’ and ‘Rock and Roll’, but just as impressive is his ability to hold back in gentle ballads like ‘Going to California’ and ‘All My Love’, play up his funky James Brown imitation on ‘The Crunge’ and ‘The Wanton Song’, or key into his blues influences on ‘You Shook Me’ and ‘The Lemon Song’. His piercing shrieks were first class, but so too was his versatility and range.
So, when it comes to answering the question, “What was the hardest song in your career for you to sing?” Plant has plenty of options to choose from. Does he go with a left-field choice, like the upper register funk of ‘Custard Pie’ or upper-range folk freak out of ‘Friends’? Maybe a more well-known but still incredibly intimidating track, like ‘Stairway to Heaven’ or ‘Whole Lotta Love’? Or perhaps a track that requires a specific voice to pull off, like the mad carnival barker on ‘Hot Dog’ or the old-school rock and roll of ‘Boogie with Stu’? You’ll be very disappointed.
As it turns out, Plant didn’t even choose a Led Zeppelin song. Because, you know, those are easy to sing for a rock monster like Plant. Forget the high-noted wails that he used to determine himself a “golden God”, Plant seemingly sees them as accessible ditties. Instead, it was the cover of Dillard and Clark’s ‘Polly’ that he and Alison Krauss reinterpreted as ‘Polly Come Home’ for their 2007 duet album Raising Sand.
“It’s just the most difficult piece of music to sing at the tempo that we sang it at,” he said to Ultimate Classic Rock. “It’s one of the toughest calls I’ve had, apart from my audition in the Yardbirds.” Plant eventually joined the New Yardbirds with John Bonham, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones, becoming one of the most beloved bands of all time, but it seems this is one tune he gives even more gravitas to.
From those comments, one might expect the song to be at a breakneck tempo, forcing Plant to fit in an absurd number of syllables in very little time. But actually, ‘Polly Come Home’ is a slow and laboured crawl, forcing Plant and Krauss not to jump the gun and bring every ounce of emotion to their performance to sell the song’s lyrics properly. It’s a balanced delivery that tests even the best singers. While belting out notes might seem like the more difficult choice for performers, actually maintaining a breath set of mid-level notes is perhaps even more difficult.
“The song itself is just, it’s so poignant. And it’s so slow,” Plant explained. “So the very opening line of the song, in my chest, my lungs, my vocal cords, in my sense of timing… It was, ‘How am I gonna get these words right to the end of that bar without collapsing?’ It was just such a beautiful lilt.”
For someone as legendary in the vocal department as Plant, it’s humbling to hear that the most challenging parts of singing involve emotion and intention rather than paint-peeling high notes. Plant sells every bit of love and tenderness that ‘Polly Come Home’ requires, resulting in a beautifully still portrait. Still, c’mon, are you sure it’s not that scream in ‘The Immigrant Song’?

Robert Plant, legendary frontman of Led Zeppelin, is known for his powerful and dynamic vocal range. However, there is one song that he has admitted is particularly challenging for him to sing: “Stairway to Heaven.”In an interview, Plant revealed that the iconic ballad is the most difficult song for him to perform live because of its emotional intensity and vocal demands. The high notes and intricate melodies of the song require a great deal of control and stamina, making it a constant challenge for Plant even after all these years.
Despite the difficulty, Plant continues to captivate audiences with his passionate and soulful rendition of “Stairway to Heaven,” proving that even the greatest singers face challenges when it comes to performing their most beloved songs.

Graham Nash names the greatest Joni Mitchell song
(Credits: Far Out / ARTE France / Alamy)
Up on a grassy hill in Laurel Canyon, Graham Nash and Joni Mitchell made history together. The duo’s songwriting became the sound of popular music as we know it. Perhaps in hundreds of years, they’ll be mythologised like Mary Shelley and Percy Bysshe Shelley—a lauded pair whose brief romance was spent scribbling away folk classics with a morning coffee and sipping boujailles in the evening.
Even their first meeting had a sense of poetic fate to it. As Nash writes in the book 101 Essential Rock Records: “I first met Joan in Ottawa, Canada, in 1967. The Hollies were playing a show there and Joni was playing at a local club. There was a party thrown for us after our show, and when I entered the room, I noticed a beautiful woman sitting down with what appeared to be a large bible on her knees.”
He was instantly beguiled by her, and his only thoughts were about plucking up the courage to approach her. This endeavour was blighted by the witterings of his manager, Robin Britten. If only the heathen would stop so, Nash could gather his whirring thoughts.
“I asked him to be quiet as I was checking Joni out,“ Nash recalls. “He said, ‘if you’d just listen to me I’m trying to tell you that she wants to meet you’. David Crosby had told me earlier that year to look out for Joni should I ever get the chance to meet her. Joni and I hit it off immediately, and I ended up in her room at the Chateau Laurier and she beguiled me with 15 or so of the most incredible songs I’d ever heard. Obviously, I fell in love right there and then. She touched my heart and soul in a way that they had never been touched before.”
But her best songs were yet to be written. Crosby had helped Mitchell craft her debut album and was assured that she was a generational talent. However, by her own admission, she was still breaking free from the shackles of folk in the purest sense. She would soon begin to pull away from fantasy and timeless tropes and pour more of herself than pretty much any songwriter before her into her tunes.
(Credit: Alamy) This soon led to the anthem that Nash describes as her greatest ever piece of work, ‘A Case of You‘. He told Songfacts, “There are so many brilliant songs. I tend to go towards a simple song, and one of my favourites is ‘A Case Of You‘. I think it’s an unbelievably beautifully recorded, simple folk song. It’s beautiful.“
The timeless track towers above heart-torn imitators by means of sheer sincerity. As Mitchell once told Mojo, “I think men write very dishonestly about breakups. I wanted to be capable of being responsible for my own errors. If there was friction between me and another person, I wanted to be able to see my participation in it so I could see what could be changed and what could not.“
She sternly added, “That is part of the pursuit of happiness. You have to pull the weeds in your soul when you are young, when they are sprouting, otherwise they will choke you.” In that sense, ‘A Case Of You‘ is an act of cathartic gardening.
This profound and beautifully illustrated point about the need to take dominion over life’s unfurling circumstances, seasons and their effects on us as people is the sort of poignant intelligence that permeates Mitchell’s work as a songwriter.
Not just ‘A Case of You’ but indeed a lot of the material on her beloved album Blue is centred around a break-up that the singer-songwriter was enduring with Nash himself. The song lyrics, in part, detail the fading spark of a relationship heading towards its end and the growing divide between two lovers with lines like, “Just before our love got lost you said, / I am as constant as a northern star / And I said, ‘Constantly in the darkness‘,” illuminating poetically the notion of a rift.
What makes the track so unique and full of depth, however, is the fact that it somehow functions as both a break-up lamentation but also an ode to somebody, exemplifying the dichotomy of love and love lost. Thus there is also an argument that the idea of the song being simply about Nash is far too head-on.
The track’s production features James Taylor on guitar and Mitchell providing the strumming on the Appalachian dulcimer. The pair would later have an intense but brief relationship, so it is easy to speculate that the flowering of a new romance from the ashes of another could be the reason behind the songs self-evident light and shade.
This notion of star-crossed lovers and kindred souls is also reflected in the literary influences that Mitchell has referenced as inspirations behind some of the lyrics. “I am as constant as the Northern Star” alludes to Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, one of the most schismatic figures in literature, whereas “Love is touching souls” is in reference to the Rainer Maria Rilke poem ‘Love Song’, which examines the inner yearnings of two guarded souls, elucidating how Mitchell may have felt at the time.
These little flourishes hint at the depth untold in Mitchell’s masterpiece, which Nash rightfully highlights as among her greatest.

The first fragrance in the Une Nuit au Cap collection and is a tribute to the extraordinary Miriam Makeba, singer and activist for peace and civil rights. This niche fragrance is named after the English title of one of the South African heroine and singer’s most famous songs, Click Song (original language Qonggothwane). The woman had a life as difficult as it was incredible: forced into exile at a young age for her opposition to apartheid, she went on to become a world-famous singer. During her time in exile, Makeba traveled extensively and wrote songs, but never stopped being active in her struggle, which was also carried on through her singing career. Upon her return to South Africa, which did not occur until the 1990s, she was welcomed as queen of the entire country because of what her figure represented for Africa in the world. Click Song Eau de Parfum a lingering, floral scent that, thanks to the presence of amber, brings in incredible warmth and light. It is the rose, however, also enhanced by patchouli, that is the real protagonist of this wonderful fragrance: a flower with a delicate appearance but unprecedented strength, just like Miriam Makeba.

Nominees: “After Hours” (Diovanna Frazier, Alex Goldblatt, Kehlani Parrish, Khris Riddick-Tynes & Daniel Upchurch); “Burning” (Ronald Banful & Temilade Openiyi); “Here We Go (Uh Oh)” (Sara Diamond, Sydney Floyd, Marisela Jackson, Courtney Jones, Carl McCormick & Kelvin Wooten); “Ruined Me” (Jeff Gitelman, Priscilla Renea & Kevin Theodore); “Saturn” (Rob Bisel, Carter Lang, Solána Rowe, Jared Solomon & Scott Zhang)
Analysis: It’s always a good sign when a song earns nominations in both songwriting and performance categories, which means Coco Jones (“Here We Go”) and SZA (“Saturn”) have particularly strong chances at taking this one home. Jones won best R&B performance last year with “ICU,” but lost best R&B song to SZA’s “Snooze.” “Saturn,” though a hit, wasn’t as big of a smash as “Snooze,” but SZA’s seemingly unstoppable momentum and forthcoming co-headlining North American stadium tour with Kendrick Lamar (a seven-time nominee this year), could help her win the trophy.
Nonetheless, the frontrunner across the R&B field is probably Muni Long. Revenge didn’t exactly light the charts on fire (it missed both the Billboard 200 and genre-specific album rankings), but the record spawned three consecutive top three Adult R&B Airplay singles, including the chart-toppers “Ruined Me” and “Make Me Forget.” With “Ruined Me” earning a lot of love from R&B circles and Long remaining a consistent cultural presence via performances and candid music industry revelations, this could very well be the Year of Muni Long.
Kehlani earned three nods this year, and this is her first nomination in this category. “After Hours” was one of the few uptempo R&B hits from the last year, which could help its chances in a songwriting category. Tems‘ “Burning” probably has the same chance of winning as “After Hours”; it’s a poignant track that finds the crossover star soaring in a leading role after being a key featured player on Grammy-approved hits like Future‘s “Wait For U” and Wizkid‘s “Essence.”
We’ll call this category for Muni Long; “Ruined Me” is fresh, commercially successful, critically acclaimed, and features the most-nominated R&B artist of the night.
Prediction: Muni Long, “Ruined Me”
Look Out For: SZA, “Saturn”
