Paul Mescal’s performance in ‘Gladiator II’ has drawn harsh criticism, with some labeling him “a pale imitation” of Russell Crowe’s iconic portrayal of Maximus in the 2000 original.
While the sequel has achieved financial success, grossing $400 million in its first month, critics have targeted Mescal as lacking the presence and depth that defined Crowe’s Oscar-winning role.
Russell Crowe’s Silent Satisfaction
Insiders claim that Crowe is privately satisfied with the outcome behind the scenes, seeing it as a lesson in humility for the younger actor.

“Russell doesn’t have anything against Paul personally, but when an actor struts around like a peacock and acts like an ass, it’s…
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Paul Mescal opened up about the struggles he faced while preparing for his role in the upcoming film Gladiator II. The Irish actor, best known for his breakout role in the hit series Normal People, revealed that he had to undergo intense physical training and endure grueling fight scenes for the highly anticipated sequel to the 2000 blockbuster.
While Mescal’s dedication and commitment to the role have been praised by fans and industry insiders alike, it seems that his struggles have not gone unnoticed by the original Gladiator himself, Russell Crowe. According to sources close to Crowe, the Oscar-winning actor has been secretly gloating about Mescal’s challenges, viewing them as a lesson in humility for the young actor.
Crowe, who famously portrayed Maximus Decimus Meridius in the original Gladiator, is said to have taken pleasure in watching Mescal struggle with the demands of the role, seeing it as a rite of passage for the up-and-coming star. While Crowe has yet to publicly comment on Mescal’s performance, insiders say that he has been quietly enjoying seeing the younger actor pushed to his limits.
Despite the challenges he faced, Mescal remains determined to give his all to the role and is said to be grateful for the opportunity to work on such a high-profile project. With Gladiator II set to hit theaters next year, fans can look forward to seeing Mescal’s hard work pay off on the big screen.
As for Crowe, it seems that the veteran actor’s lesson in humility has not gone unnoticed by Mescal. In a recent interview, the Irish actor expressed his admiration for Crowe and acknowledged the impact that the original Gladiator had on his own career. It seems that Mescal has taken Crowe’s subtle lesson to heart, showing that even the biggest stars can learn from one another in the competitive world of Hollywood.

It looks like model Kaia Gerber, 23, has moved on from her relationship with Austin Butler, 33!
On Wednesday night, Kaia was spotted holding getting close to actor Lewis Pullman, the son of Bill Pullman, during a night out in Los Angeles.
At one point during the outing, Gerber was seen holding onto Pullman’s arm. They were most likely celebrating his 32nd birthday, which was the same day.
For their outing, Kaia wore a denim jacket, scarf, and wide-leg pants, while Lewis sported jeans, a white tee, a dark jacket, and a cap.
Dating rumors have been swirling about Kaia and Lewis after they were reportedly spotted together on the beach in Cabo San Lucas in early January. While he went unnoticed at the time by photogs, he was wearing the same cap, too!
Gossip site Deuxmoi also reported that the two were recently spotted “at a bar in Los Felix.”
News broke about Kaia and Austin’s split just weeks ago, but they reportedly ended things at the end of last year.
A source told TMZ that “The relationship just simply ran its course after a good three years together” and there is “no bad blood” between Austin and Kaia.
View Story
The split explains Butler’s absence from Gerber’s holiday vacation with her parents Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber in Mexico.
Austin and Kaia were last seen together in October in New York City.
As for Pullman, he dated another celebrity offspring, Rainey Qualley, daughter of Andie MacDowell, years ago.
After a year of dating, they made their red-carpet debut at the “Top Gun: Maverick” premiere in San Diego in 2022.
It is unclear when they broke up, but Rainey recently welcomed her first child with boyfriend Anthony Wilson.

Deion Sanders has enjoyed an unmatched career in sports. Sanders played in MLB and NFL, worked as a television announcer, and is now in coaching.
Thanks to his long and successful career, many fanbases want to claim “Primetime” as their own team’s hero. That debate is once again flaring up thanks to a retro sneaker release from Nike.
Since Sanders and Nike reunited in 2023, the two partners have worked together on cleats and sneaker releases. Most of the styles have told old stories from Sanders’ legendary career with new colorways.
Now, the Nike Air Diamond Turf is coming back in the “Fire Red and Metallic Gold” colorway, and fans are divided. Are the shoes inspired by the Atlanta Falcons or the San Francisco 49ers? Sanders last played for the Falcons in 1993, before spending one season with the 49ers in 1994.
Sanders first debuted the popular cross-trainers when he played for the Falcons. However, the colorway does feature 49ers colors, too. Football fans are furiously pulling out old pictures of Sanders wearing the kicks with the Falcons and the 49ers, even comparing uniform colors.
To further complicate matters, different retailers and media outlets are referring to the “Fire Red and Metallic Gold” colorway as either the “Falcons” or “49ers” colorway.
The debate will live on for the foreseeable future, but all football fans and sneakerheads can agree that these old-school sneakers are fire. Best of all, they are dropping just ahead of the NFL’s Conference Championship weekend.
The Nike Air Diamond Turf “Fire Red and Metallic Gold” will be released at 10:00 a.m. EST on Friday, January 24. Online shoppers can buy the sneakers for $150 in adult sizes on the Nike SNKRS website and app.
The product description does not mention any NFL team or city. Instead, it focuses on the design. According to the brand, the iconic cross trainer from 1994 has received a “street-ready refresh.”
Additionally, this version features Air units in the heel and forefoot, plus durable leather and a midfoot strap for a secure fit. Lastly, the description leaves the name to interpretation, “And that colorway? Same as the original.”
This colorway sports a white and black upper, contrasted by Fire Red accents and Metallic Gold detailing. Such important elements like the Nike Air logo, forefoot strap, and signature branding remain true to the original.
Sanders and Nike made history in the mid-1990s, and they are still proving to be a formidable team this decade. Stay locked into Sports Illustrated’s Kicks On SI for all your footwear news from the sports world and beyond.
The debate has been settled. Nike promoted Sanders’ sneakers with an Instagram post highlighting his time in Atlanta with the Braves and Falcons. Now that the Falcons have received a colorway, hopefully, that means the 49ers will get a colorway as well.
Deion Sanders is a legendary NFL player who has left a lasting impact on the game of football. Recently, a pair of his retro Nike sneakers has sparked a debate among fans: Falcons or 49ers?
Sanders played for both the Atlanta Falcons and the San Francisco 49ers during his illustrious career, so it’s no surprise that fans are split on which team they associate with him more. The sneakers in question feature both teams’ colors and logos, making it difficult for fans to choose a side.
Some fans argue that Sanders had his best years with the 49ers, winning a Super Bowl with the team in 1994. They believe that the red and gold colorway of the sneakers represents his time in San Francisco and should be the preferred choice for fans.
On the other hand, fans of the Falcons point to Sanders’ electrifying play and larger-than-life personality during his time in Atlanta. They argue that the black and red colorway of the sneakers pays homage to his roots with the Falcons and should be the top choice for fans.
Ultimately, the debate over Falcons or 49ers will continue to rage on among fans of Deion Sanders. One thing is for certain, though: no matter which team fans associate him with, Sanders will always be remembered as one of the greatest players to ever step foot on the football field.

Celebrity-inspired meme coins are gaining momentum in crypto markets, with new tokens from Vine co-founder Rus Yusupov and the late John McAfee’s estate attracting substantial investor interest.
Yusupov launched the VINE meme coin on Solana, announcing on X,
“Remembering all the fun we had building vine — Let’s relive the magic and DO IT FOR THE #VINECOIN.”
After initial skepticism about account hacking, Yusupov verified the announcement with a video showing his printed tweet, stating “Not hacked! Just having fun.”
The VINE token surged to a $90 million market cap before a brief pullback, then soared 5,800% to reach $500 million. The token has since stabilized at $200 million.
Yusupov further announced that all developer tokens for VINE would remain locked until April 20 at 4:20 PM, signaling his commitment to the project.
The launch of VINE comes as renewed interest in reviving Vine is building momentum.
Tech news reporter Sawyer Merritt posted on X, saying, “I think it’s time to bring it back,” alongside a photo of Vine’s logo and tagging Elon Musk.
On January 19, 2025, Musk replied, “We are looking into it,” fueling speculation about a potential revival of the beloved social media app.
The launch follows the recent success of Donald Trump’s meme coin, which reached a $15 billion market cap before settling at $7.5 billion.
Two days later, a Melania Trump token was launched, though it gained less traction, further highlighting the rising trend of celebrity-driven meme coins.
Separately, John McAfee’s X account announced the AIntivirus token, described as an AI-driven token built on the Solana blockchain.
The account posted, “I’m back with AIntivirus. An AI version of myself. You didn’t think I would miss this cycle, did you?”
Janice McAfee, John’s widow, confirmed the project’s legitimacy through a video statement, saying it would honor her late husband’s legacy.
AIntivirus reached a peak market cap of over $100 million before declining to $36 million. The token has 99,999,858 units in circulation with 15,676 holders, according to Solscan data.
McAfee, who founded McAfee Antivirus, faced legal challenges in his later years, including tax evasion charges and controversies surrounding crypto projects like $GHOST.

VineCoin is a meme-based cryptocurrency that features a playful and humorous design inspired by the iconic Vine platform. The coin has already gained a strong following on social media, with many users excited about the potential for the coin to become the next big thing in the world of cryptocurrencies.
Despite McAfee’s recent passing, his involvement in VineCoin has only served to increase interest in the project. Fans of both Vine and McAfee have been quick to show their support for the new cryptocurrency, with many predicting that it could become a major player in the meme coin market.
As the world of cryptocurrencies continues to evolve, it seems that meme coins are here to stay. With VineCoin leading the way, it will be interesting to see how this new trend develops in the coming months.

The New York Rangers are riding a season-long eight-game point streak (5-0-3) heading into a showdown at MSG against the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday. New York now sits just four points out of the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, which is occupied (in a tie) by Ottawa and the Boston Bruins.
A key reason for the Rangers recent resurgence is the play of goalie Igor Shesterkin. In his past five games since coming off IR, Shesterkin is 4-0-1 with a shutout. He’s allowed nine goals in that span and shut out the Columbus Blue Jackets 1-0 in a game decided in the shootout Saturday.
It has been an inconsistent season overall for Shesterkin, with a 15-15-2 record, 2.87,goals-against average and .916 save percentage. However, after missing four games with an upper-body injury, Shesterkin’s been at the top of his game.
The 29-year-old goalie appears back to his early form at the start of the season, when he single-handedly won games for the Rangers. Shesterkin had a 6-3-1 record out of the gate this season, and bailed out the sloppy Rangers seemingly on as nightly basis. It appears he’s regained that stellar form, which gives the Rangers an edge to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the fourth consecutive season.
Related: Rangers trade rumors – Canucks ‘very motivated’ to move J.T. Miller, perhaps to East rival
When the Rangers season began to spiral in mid-November their atrocious team defense certainly took a toll on Shesterkin and backup Jonathan Quick. As the Rangers cratered in front of him, Shesterkin showed his own cracks in goal during a terrible 4-15-0 stretch for the team in November and December.
Shesterkin lost five starts in a row from No. 21 – Dec. 2, surrendering 18 goals. He allowed four goals or more eight times in November and December. He was pulled twice in a five-start span in December.
It was a terrible combination of Shesterkin not at his best playing behind a porous defense for a team who’s effort was non-existent some nights.
In the middle of this Rangers mess, Shesterkin signed a contract extension that made him highest-paid goalie in NHL history, Not the best timing.
Shesterkin sustained an upper-body injury Dec. 30 in a loss to the Florida Panthers. The Rangers began to play better in his absence, and he met their improved play with his own after returning for a thrilling 3-2 overtime win against the New Jersey Devils on Jan. 9.
Shesterkin benefited from a break last season to help reset his game. In 2023-24, he struggled in the first half with a 2.86 GAA, .899 save percentage, and zero shutouts in 32 games up until the NHL All-Star Break.
After the break, Shesterkin was arguably the best goalie in the second half of the NHL season. Shesterkin was 17-5-1 with four shutouts, a 2.20 goals-against average, and .930 save percentage in 23 games after Feb. 9.
This season, his stint on the IR appears to have served served as the needed break. Shesterkin reset mentally and physically and since returning has not lost a game in regulation.
Part of that credit goes to the defense playing better in front of him. The Rangers are more committed defensively and blocking far more shots, playing a smarter all-around game.
That’s most of the time. It wasn’t so pretty in recent overtime losses to the Dallas Stars and Montreal Canadiens, when the Rangers blew third-period leads with Quick in goal and allowed five goals in each loss.
But the Rangers are right back in the playoff picture. And the Stanley Cup Playoffs, as we all know, is where Shesterkin really shines.
During the Blueshirts run to the Eastern Conference Final last season, Shesterkin faced 524 shots in 16 playoff games, with the Rangers outshot in 13 of them. Yet, he helped them to within two wins of the Stanley Cup Final.
That’s the goalie they need down the stretch this season to set up another possible run in the postseason. And it’s looking like Shesterkin is finding that form again.
More About:New York Rangers News
The New York Rangers have found their spark in star goalie Henrik Lundqvist as they make a push for the playoffs. Lundqvist, who has been dealing with some health issues earlier in the season, has come back strong and is playing at the top of his game.
With Lundqvist between the pipes, the Rangers have been able to tighten up their defense and limit opponents’ scoring opportunities. His stellar play has given the team a much-needed boost as they fight for a playoff spot.
Not only is Lundqvist making key saves, but his leadership and experience are invaluable to the team as they navigate the final stretch of the season. His presence in the net gives the Rangers confidence and stability, two crucial elements for success in the playoffs.
As the Rangers continue to battle for a playoff spot, having a healthy and in-form Lundqvist is exactly what they need to make a strong push towards the postseason. With the star goalie leading the way, the Rangers have a real shot at making a deep playoff run.

Quinshon Judkins ended up taking the Michigan loss in stride when it was all said and done. In fact, it galvanized Ohio State over the course of the next three games.
There’s using it as motivation and then there’s what the Buckeyes did in the College Football Playoff. Ohio State dominated Tennessee and Oregon and then shut down Texas‘ offense in the bracket.
Now win away, maybe Judkins and Ohio State can thank Michigan for the spark.
“I think in that moment that kind of gave us a little spark,” Judkins said, via Chris Vannini of The Athletic. “Like, definitely, I would say it made us want to go harder man, and realize, okay, like that was super disrespectful. I think it made a lot of guys wake up in that moment. But did anything change about our team?
“I don’t think so. I think we prepared the same way and have the same edge as we did in the beginning of the season. So I think that just made us just really go a little harder.”
After losing the “The Game” to conclude the regular season, head coach Ryan Day looked like a dead man walking. Yes, the Buckeyes still had the most talented roster on paper, but there were concerns if Ohio State could actually make a run with four straight wins.
Like Judkins, Day believed in his squad. And if it all culminates in a national title win over Notre Dame Monday night, Day and the Buckeyes will have ultimate redemption.
“This is really about a lot of things, but also redemption for Ryan Day,” ESPN’s Paul Finebaum said on Get Up. “We all know what the narrative was, and it was real. I know a lot of Ohio State fans want to act like it was the media’s fault, but they were in bars after the Michigan game blaming Ryan Day and wanting him out if he couldn’t turn this thing around, but he did.
“He admitted over the weekend that he told the team I screwed up. I’m sorry, we will correct it, and that’s exactly what he has done. We talked about Marcus Freeman, Ryan Day winning this thing is very remarkable as well considering where he was just six weeks ago.”
In a stunning upset, the Ohio State Buckeyes defeated the Michigan Wolverines in a thrilling College Football Playoff game. One player who played a key role in the victory was Quinshon Judkins, whose flag planting celebration after a touchdown gave his team the momentum they needed to secure the win.
Judkins’ bold move not only fired up his teammates, but also sent a message to their rivals that they were not going down without a fight. The energy and passion he brought to the game was contagious, and it inspired the Buckeyes to play with a new level of intensity.
In a post-game interview, Judkins explained that the loss to Michigan earlier in the season had lit a fire under the team, and his flag planting celebration was a way to show their determination to come out on top. He expressed his pride in his teammates and their resilience in the face of adversity.
The victory over Michigan and the subsequent flag planting may have been controversial, but there is no denying that it gave Ohio State the spark they needed to advance in the College Football Playoff. Judkins’ fearless attitude and unwavering confidence were instrumental in propelling his team to victory, and he will undoubtedly be remembered as a key player in this historic game.
Overall, Quinshon Judkins’ performance in the Michigan loss and flag planting celebration will go down in College Football Playoff history as a turning point for the Ohio State Buckeyes. His passion and determination were the driving force behind their success, and his fearless attitude inspired his teammates to rise to the occasion.
