Billie Eilish Song Surpassed Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Espresso’ as Spotify’s Most-Streamed Song in 2024
Fans might’ve not been thinking about Sabrina Carpenter‘s “Espresso” every night after all.
According to Variety, the most-streamed song on Spotify in 2024 was “Birds of a Feather” by Billie Eilish. The song floated past Carpenter’s with 1,775,172,881 streams last year. “Espresso,” meanwhile, had a total of 1,774,525,704 listens, 650,000 behind Eilish, 23.
“Espresso” was previously reported as the most-streamed song as part of Spotify Wrapped, with “Birds of a Feather” in the No. 3 spot at the time behind Benson Boone‘s “Beautiful Things.”

Carpenter, 25, dropped “Espresso” in April from her Short n’ Sweet album. The tune won song of the year at the 2024 MTV VMAs and has since inspired coffee-themed collaborations with the singer, including an espresso-flavored ice cream.
“Birds of a Feather,” which Eilish released on her third studio album Hit Me Hard and Soft in May. She and her brother Finneas worked on the song in the back of an SUV while in Brazil. “We’re always finding ourselves working in the most random places,” she said on Jimmy Kimmel Live in September.

“It’s fun because it’s so casual and normal and we were just in the back of this car and it’s Finneas’ laptop,” she continued. Looking back on when she and Finneas, 27, wrote the “Birds of a Feather,” Eilish said it’s “really amazing to see how far the song has come.”
Eilish is up for seven Grammys this year, while Carpenter earned six nominations. Both are up for the record of the year and pop solo performance of the year with their respective top-streamed songs on Spotify, along with album of the year.

Carpenter told The Hollywood Reporter in December that she wasn’t sure if anyone would connect with “Espresso.” “I remember deciding to put this song out in the beginning of summer and thinking espresso, coffee is kind of more of a fall beverage,” she said.
“I really didn’t know if it would connect, but the sentiment and the sound of the song and the confidence that it kind of just carries along with it was something that I really believed in.”
The “Please Please Please” singer continued: “So I had literally no idea that anyone would like it, but I liked it, and that was kind of all that mattered to me in that moment, and something I try to remember over and over again.”
In a surprising turn of events, Billie Eilish’s latest hit song has surpassed Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Espresso’ as Spotify’s most-streamed song of 2024. Eilish’s catchy tune has captured the hearts of fans around the world, propelling it to the top spot on the streaming platform.Fans of both artists have been engaged in a friendly rivalry, with supporters of Eilish celebrating her latest achievement. The song’s success is a testament to Eilish’s undeniable talent and appeal, solidifying her status as one of the music industry’s biggest stars.
As ‘Espresso’ slips from its reign as Spotify’s most-streamed song, fans of Carpenter are still showing their support for the talented artist. Despite the shift in rankings, both Eilish and Carpenter continue to create music that resonates with listeners and showcases their incredible artistry.
Congratulations to Billie Eilish on this impressive milestone, and here’s to more chart-topping hits in the future!

Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” has flown to the top of Spotify’s list of biggest songs of 2024 with 1.775b streams.
The streaming service says that the breezy pop smash is its most streamed song of the past year. It’s from Eilish’s third album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, and was written by the 23-year-old and her other brother and collaborator, Finneas.
“Birds of a Feather” has peaked at No. 2 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart and is spending its 21st week on top of the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart. It is nominated for three honors at the Feb. 2 Grammy Awards, including song of the year, record of the year and best pop solo performance.
“There’s a lot of songs about dying for somebody and loving them until they die, and I thought it was really fun to lean in,” Finneas said in a video on Eilish’s YouTube channel about the making of the track.
Hit Me Hard and Soft is nominated for album of the year and best pop vocal album at the Grammys, while lead single “Lunch” is up for best music video and “L’Amour de Ma Vie [Over Now Extended Version]” is nominated for best pop dance recording. From 32 nominations, Eilish has won nine Grammys including two for both song of the year and record of the year.
Finneas, 27, has won 10 Grammys out of 17 nominations. He’s the youngest person to ever be named producer of the year at 22 years old. He recently composed music for the Apple TV+ series Disclaimer and said working with Attacca Quartet on the music inspired him while making Eilish’s latest album.
“The real twin flame of this is that I was doing the TV show for the whole year that I was making Billie’s album, and so I had this in the back of my mind, always working on the strings. I would work on Disclaimer right before Billie would come over every day, then she’d leave, and I’d work on it again. And so I really credit Disclaimer for being the reason that there is a string overture in that album,” Finneas told The Hollywood Reporter.
“It is something we have always loved. The albums that we referenced while we were making this album were Sgt. Pepper and Abbey Road — they have these motifs that return, and so it was something we’d wanted to do. But I credit the show for giving me the learned experience of how to do it.”
Billie Eilish’s ‘Birds of a Feather’ has taken the music world by storm, becoming Spotify’s top song of 2024. With its hauntingly beautiful melody and thought-provoking lyrics, the track has resonated with listeners around the globe.Fans have been captivated by Eilish’s unique sound and raw emotion, making ‘Birds of a Feather’ a standout hit on the music streaming platform. Billie Eilish’s ‘Birds of a Feather’ Is Spotify’s Top-Streamed in 2024
Billie Eilish kicked off the New Year with yet another milestone, as “Birds of a Feather” became the most-streamed song on Spotify in 2024.
The song, included on her third album “Hit Me Hard and Soft,” took the streaming throne with 1,775,172,881 listens in 2024. She just slipped past Sabrina Carpenter‘s “Espresso” by nearly 650,000 streams, as Carpenter’s summer smash closed the year with 1,774,525,704 listens on the platform.
“Birds of a Feather” was yet another hit for Eilish following its release last May. The track, which reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, will be contending in numerous categories at the Grammy Awards next month including song of the year, record of the year and best pop solo performance.
Following the release of “Hit Me Hard and Soft,” the pop star spent the better part of the autumn on her headlining tour, which kicked off in Canada before making its way through the United States and culminating with five shows Inglewood, CA’s Kia Forum. At the tour finale, she got in the holiday spirit with a rendition of “O Holy Night,” telling the crowd, “I’m not really religious. I just love Christmas so much. I also grew up in a choir, so that’s just my schtick.” (Read our full concert review here.)
Finneas, her co-writer, producer and brother, told Variety last month that he wasn’t entirely sure that “Birds” would spread its wings quite like it inevitably did. “In some ways. I’m sort of extra-mistrustful when people tell me that they think something’s gonna be a big hit, because it feels like jinxing it — or because, usually, people say that about stuff that sounds like something else that already exists,” he said. “You know, nobody said that about ‘Bad Guy’ before it came out, and I think the reason nobody said that was that it really sounded new. Anyway, that being said, every time we played ‘Birds of a Feather’ for the label or our close friends, they would kind of freak out.”
