Pizza delivery driver stabs customer over tip amount, Osceola County deputies say
OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – A 22-year-old pizza delivery driver is facing charges after deputies say she violently attacked a customer over a tip amount, Osceola County deputies say.
On Sunday, deputies responded to the Riviera Motel on E. Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway in Kissimmee on reports of a home invasion and stabbing. When they arrived, they found a victim who had been stabbed multiple times, as well as that items were taken from the room, a news release states.
The victim was transported to the hospital and at last check is in stable condition.
According to deputies, Brianna Alvelo — who is a Marco’s Pizza employee — delivered a pizza to the victim and became upset over the tip amount. She later returned to the victim’s motel room with an unknown male, who was armed with a firearm, where she attacked the victim.
After obtaining an arrest warrant, Alvelo was arrested on Monday at the restaurant and booked into the Osceola County Jail on no bond.
The affidavit for Alvelo’s arrest warrant, released Thursday, sheds more light on what allegedly happened.
The victim was in the motel room with her boyfriend and her 5-year-old daughter when the stabbing occurred, investigators said, adding the victim was stabbed 14 times, underwent surgery for a punctured lung and learned at the hospital that she was a few weeks pregnant.
The victim and her boyfriend had reserved the room to celebrate the boyfriend’s birthday, the affidavit states.
When the pizza was delivered, the victim attempted to pay for the $33.10 order with a $50 bill and asked for change, conveying she did not want to leave that large of a tip. Alvelo told the victim that “they don’t provide change,” prompting the victim to ask for her money back and to look around for bills of smaller denominations, according to the affidavit. The victim eventually paid for the order and gave Alvelo a $2 tip, at which time she told investigators that Alvelo “rolled her eyes and walked away without saying anything.”
Later, as the victim, her boyfriend and her daughter were reportedly asleep, she heard and answered a loud knocking at the door, according to the affidavit. When she went to open the door, Alvelo and a tall male brandishing a gun — both in all black and wearing face masks — allegedly forced themselves into the room. After pointing the gun at the victim and her daughter, the male allegedly commanded the victim’s boyfriend into the bathroom, where investigators say he smashed the boyfriend’s phone as Alvelo began rummaging through the victim’s things.
After Alvelo reportedly dumped out the victim’s purse and broke her daughter’s Nintendo Switch, the victim turned her back to Alvelo in order to shield the girl, investigators said. This is when the victim felt a hard strike to her lower back, realizing only upon the sight of blood that she had been stabbed with a pocket knife, according to the affidavit.
The victim threw her daughter onto the bed and tried to pick up her phone, yet Alvelo grabbed the phone and smashed it onto the floor before striking the victim multiple times more with the knife, the affidavit states. Alvelo stopped stabbing the victim when the male suspect yelled it was time to go, investigators said, adding the victim believed Alvelo was trying to kill her.
Alvelo faces charges of home invasion with a firearm, attempted murder, kidnapping and aggravated assault.
The armed male suspect has not been identified. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Crimeline at 800-423-8477.
On Wednesday, News 6 received this response from a Marco’s Pizza spokesperson following Alvelo’s arrest.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident that occurred. The local owner and his team are fully cooperating with local authorities, who have launched an investigation into the matter. The safety and well-being of customers and team members are always our top priority, and we are taking this incident very seriously.”
