  • No. 3 Iowa State vs. Kansas State Primer

    Who: No. 3 Iowa State (17-3, 7-2 Big 12) vs. Kansas State (9-11, 3-6 Big 12)

Where: Hilton Coliseum (14,267) – Ames, Iowa

    When: Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025 – 1 p.m. CT

    Watch/Listen: ESPN2 / Cyclone Radio Network

Tipping Off: Iowa State will return home this Saturday, following just its second loss in conference play at Arizona on Big Monday. The Cyclones will look to increase the nation’s second longest home winning streak to 30 in a row, as they meet Kansas State in the first of two regular season matchups.

ISU dropped just its second game since Thanksgiving last time out, falling to Arizona in overtime on the road. The Cyclones saw Tamin Lipsey and Keshon Gilbert combine to score 35 points, but it wasn’t enough as an end-of-regulation buzzer-beater sent the game into OT, where the Wildcats would catch fire and pull away.

After starting 1-6 in conference play, Kansas State has rattled off two wins in a row – both at home. The winning streak started with an upset of No. 23 West Virginia last Saturday, before the team dispensed of Oklahoma State on Wednesday. The Wildcats got off to hot starts in both games and seem to have found a groove as of late.

Game Note: We ask those attending Saturday afternoon’s game to please wear white, as the game is a WHITE OUT.

    Storylines:

    • Iowa State’s “sixth starter,” Curtis Jones, has become an actual starter the last couple of times out, filling in for an injury. Since being inserted into the starting lineup, the one-time Big 12 Player of the Week has averaged 20.6 points, 6.8 rebounds and is shooting over 35 percent from deep.
    • Keshon Gilbert, the team’s “engine,” has taken a leap in his second season as a Cyclone, leading the team in minutes and assists. He has been named the Big 12 Player of the Week twice this season and was added to the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 Watch List on Jan. 7.
    • A Preseason All-Big 12 First Team selection, Tamin Lipsey has been the glue of Iowa State’s team. A known defensive menace, Lipsey leads the team in steals and is close to becoming the school’s all-time steals leader.
    • Saint Mary’s transfer Joshua Jefferson has been a revelation for the Cyclones this season. Jefferson leads the team in rebounding, has eight double-doubles and has earned five Big 12 Newcomer of the Week awards.
    • Sophomore wing Milan Momcilovic averages just over 10 points per game and shoots the 3-ball at the highest clip on the team at 44 percent. It was announced on Jan. 15 that he would miss some time with a hand injury.
    • A transfer from Charlotte, big man Dishon Jackson has been a force in the paint. He leads the team in blocks and averages 9.2 points with 5.0 rebounds.
    • A Swiss army knife off the bench, Nate Heise has really come into his own. His defensive ability to lock opposing players down and ability to cut to space has been huge.
    • Seattle transfer Brandton Chatfield has been a glass-eater off the bench. The senior leads the team in offensive rebounds percentage, as 43.5 percent of his boards come on offense.

    From the Notes:

    • As a head coach, Otz is 186-101 overall and has guided the Cyclones to an 87-38 record over the last four years.

      • ISU is 56-8 in games at Hilton Coliseum under Otz. His 56 home wins during that time are tied for the eighth-most nationally.

    • Iowa State has won 29 straight home games at Hilton Coliseum, which is the second-longest active home winning streak in the country and the second-longest in school history.
    • Coach Otzelberger is the only Iowa State men’s basketball coach to take multiple teams to the Sweet 16.

      • He was the 51st coach in NCAA Division I history to take a team to the Sweet 16 twice in his first three years on the job.
      • Otz will attempt to become the first coach in program history to take a team to the NCAA Tournament in his first four years as coach.

    • Iowa State has been ranked in the AP Top 10 for 20 straight weeks, the longest streak in the country.

      • Iowa State has been ranked in the Top 5 for 21 weeks in the poll history, with 11 of those weeks coming this season.

    • Iowa State currently boasts the top-scoring offense in the Big 12, averaging 84.2 points per contest.
    • The Cyclones are ranked No. 7 in the NET. Iowa State slots in at No. 5 in the KenPom rankings and is No. 4 in ESPN’s Basketball Power Index.

    Switching Sides:

    • Iowa State and K-State are meeting for the 241st time this weekend in the first of two meetings this season.

      • Under Coach Otz, ISU is 5-3 against the Wildcats.
      •  Kansas State is the second-most played opponent in program history (behind Kansas, who ISU has played 259 times). ISU’s 94 wins over K-State are the school’s most over any current Big 12 institution.

    • Kansas State was picked to finish eighth out of 16 in the Big 12 Preseason Poll with Coleman Hawkins earning Preseason All-Big 12 Second Team honors.

      • Speaking of Hawkins, the fifth-year senior transfer from Illinois was the Preseason Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Year.

    • K-State welcomed 10 newcomers to the team this offseason, with seven of them being Division I transfers.

      • Wildcat newcomers have combined to score 1,146 (83 percent) of the team’s 1,380 points this season, with six of the top seven scorers being new to the team.

    • Kansas State head coach Jerome Tang is in his third season at the helm of the Wildcat basketball program. Tang is 54-36 with K-State and is 56-36 in his head coaching career that includes two wins from his time as an interim at Baylor.

      • Tang was selected as the 2023 Werner Ladder Naismith Men’s College Coach of the Year after guiding the Wildcats to a 26-win season and their 13th trip to the Elite Eight in his inaugural season.

    • K-State is ranked No. 94 in the NET. The Wildcats are No. 85 in KenPom and No. 76 in ESPN’s Basketball Power Index.

  • Missouri at Mississippi State odds, picks and predictions

The No. 21 Missouri Tigers (16-4, 5-2 SEC) and the No. 13 Mississippi State Bulldogs (16-5, 4-4) meet Saturday at Humphrey Coliseum in Starkville. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET (SEC Network). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the Missouri vs. Mississippi State odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

Mississippi State has won 8 of the past 9 meetings outright, while also going 8-1 against the spread (ATS) since Feb. 26, 2019. The Under has cashed in 5 in a row and 8 of the previous 9 in the series, too.

The Tigers have won 4 of the past 5 games, including an 83-82 win at No. 6 Florida Jan. 14, and Mizzou is 6-1 ATS in the past 7 outings. The Under is 6-2 in the past 8 games, too.

The Bulldogs have lost 4 out of the past 6 games, with its only victories during the span coming via OT at South Carolina and at home to Ole Miss. Their last victory in regulation was Jan. 7 at Vanderbilt as 2.5-point favorites. The Over is 4-2 in the past 6 games for Mississippi State.

    • Moneyline (ML): Missouri +200 (bet $100 to win $200) | Mississippi State -250 (bet $250 to win $100)
    • Against the spread: Missouri +6.5 (-115) | Mississippi State -6.5 (-105)
    • Over/Under (O/U): 149.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Missouri at Mississippi State picks and predictions

    Prediction

    Mississippi State 75, Missouri 73

    Moneyline

Mississippi State (-250) will cost you 2½ times your potential return, and that’s way too much risk for not enough reward, especially in a battle between 2 ranked teams.

In addition, the Bulldogs are at home, but they haven’t been playing particularly well lately. Missouri (+200) has some marquee wins so far this season, including Q1 wins against Florida, Kansas and Ole Miss.

    PASS.

    Against the spread

MISSOURI +6.5 (-115) is a solid play catching more than 3 buckets. The Tigers have posted an impressive 6-1 ATS mark in the past 7 games since the ball dropped to ring in 2025.

On the flip side, Mississippi State -6.5 (-105) has failed to cover the past 6 outings, while going 4-9 ATS in 13 games since Dec. 9. In addition, the Bulldogs are 1-5 ATS in the past 6 contests at home.

    Over/Under

UNDER 149.5 (-110) is the lean, but go with a half-unit play at most.

The total has cashed high in the past 3 games for Mississippi State at home, so there is obviously some concern. However, Mizzou has cashed low in 6 of the past 8 games, and the Under has cashed in 5 in a row in this series, while going 8-1 in the past 9 meetings, too.

Missouri at Mississippi State Odds, Picks and Predictions

Missouri travels to Starkville to take on Mississippi State in an SEC showdown on Saturday. Both teams are looking to bounce back from losses in their last games and will be hungry for a win.

Mississippi State is currently a 5.5-point favorite over Missouri, with the over/under set at 58.5 points. The Bulldogs have had a solid start to the season, with a 3-1 record, but are coming off a tough loss to LSU. Missouri, on the other hand, is 2-2 and looking to get back on track after a loss to Boston College.

In terms of picks and predictions, this game is shaping up to be a close one. Both teams have shown flashes of potential this season, but have also struggled at times. Mississippi State’s defense has been strong, but their offense has been inconsistent. Missouri, on the other hand, has a potent offense led by quarterback Connor Bazelak.

Ultimately, I think this game will come down to which team can make the most plays on both sides of the ball. I like Missouri to keep it close and cover the spread, but I think Mississippi State will ultimately come out on top with a narrow win. Look for a high-scoring game with both teams putting up points.

Prediction: Mississippi State 31, Missouri 27

    Pick: Missouri +5.5

  • US military strikes Islamic State operatives in Somalia

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. military has conducted coordinated airstrikes against Islamic State operatives in Somalia, the first attacks in the African nation during President Donald Trump’s second term.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Saturday that the strikes by U.S. Africa Command were directed by Trump and coordinated with Somalia’s government.

An initial assessment by the Pentagon indicated that “multiple” operatives were killed. The Pentagon said it assessed that no civilians were harmed in the strikes.

Trump, in a post on social media, said a senior IS planner and recruits were targeted in the operation.

“The strikes destroyed the caves they live in, and killed many terrorists without, in any way, harming civilians. Our Military has targeted this ISIS Attack Planner for years, but Biden and his cronies wouldn’t act quickly enough to get the job done. I did!” Trump said. “The message to ISIS and all others who would attack Americans is that “WE WILL FIND YOU, AND WE WILL KILL YOU!”

Trump did not identify the IS planner or say whether that person was killed in the strike. White House officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The Pentagon’s counterterrorism strategy in Africa has been strained as two key partners, Chad and Niger, ousted U.S. forces last year and took over key bases that the U.S. military had used to train and conduct missions against terrorist groups across the Sahel, the vast arid expanse south of the Sahara Desert.

U.S. military officials have warned that IS cells have received increasing direction from the group’s leadership that relocated to northern Somalia. That has included how to kidnap Westerners for ransom, how to learn better military tactics, how to hide from drones and how to build their own small quadcopters.

A U.S. military airstrike in Somalia last May targeted IS militants and killed three, according to U.S. Africa Command.

The number of IS militants in the country are estimated to be in the hundreds, mostly scattered in the Cal Miskaat mountains in Puntland’s Bari region, according to the International Crisis Group.

Saturday’s operation followed military airstrikes on Jan. 30 in northwest Syria, killing a senior operative in Hurras al-Din, an al-Qaeda affiliate, U.S. Central Command said.

The US military has conducted a series of airstrikes targeting Islamic State operatives in Somalia, in an effort to combat the growing presence of the terrorist group in the region.

These airstrikes come as part of ongoing efforts by the US military to disrupt and degrade the capabilities of Islamic State militants in Somalia, who have been carrying out attacks and spreading their influence in the country.

The strikes were carried out with precision and coordination, targeting specific locations where Islamic State operatives were believed to be operating. The US military has stated that these strikes were necessary to protect both US interests and the stability of the region.

While the exact number of casualties from the airstrikes is not yet known, it is clear that the US military is committed to taking action against Islamic State operatives in Somalia in order to prevent further violence and instability in the region.

These airstrikes serve as a clear message to Islamic State militants in Somalia that their actions will not go unpunished, and that the US military will continue to take action to eliminate the threat they pose.

The US military remains vigilant in its efforts to combat terrorism around the world, and these recent airstrikes in Somalia are just one example of the commitment and determination of the US military to protect freedom and security for all.

  • Tiger Tip-Off Preview: Mississippi State

Missouri bounced back from a road loss at Texas by defeating Ole Miss at home last weekend, 83-75. Now, the team will head back out, looking to build on their resume away from Mizzou Arena.

That’ll be much easier said than done, as the Tigers’ trip takes them to Mississippi State. MU is 1-9 all-time in Starkville, the only win coming during the black and gold’s first year in the SEC on Feb. 13, 2013. The last eight meetings at Humphrey Coliseum have all been decided by double digits and Missouri has scored more than 62 points just once.

The Bulldogs have, for the most part, beaten the teams you’d expect them to beat and lost to the teams you’d expect them to lose to this year. Their victories include Utah, SMU, Pittsburgh, Memphis, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss and South Carolina (twice). Their losses include Butler, Kentucky, Auburn, Tennessee and Alabama, who edged the team out on Wednesday, 88-84. Mizzou will get the chance to show which group it belongs with on Saturday.

With MSU looking to protect its homecourt, the Tigers expect an uphill battle.

Chris Jans does an amazing job, and he has been his entire career,” head coach Dennis Gates said. “Mississippi State is a tremendous team, well-balanced defensively. We know what they bring to the table, their grit, their toughness. That’s something that is an identity of their program. Always has and always will be.”

    KEYS TO THE GAME

    1) Contain Josh Hubbard. The sophomore guard erupted in the Bulldogs’ loss to Alabama, dropping a career-high 38 points on 14-28 shooting. Despite possessing a 5-foot-11 frame, Hubbard has been one of the toughest players to defend in the SEC since stepping into the league as a true freshman last season, averaging 17.2 points per game for his career. He started this year on a hot streak from deep but has since cooled off, only making 31.6% of his 3-pointers in conference play. One key to defending Hubbard might be forcing him to settle for shots from outside — Mississippi State is 4-5 when he takes at least 10 triples in a game. Gates mentioned denying him catch-and-shoot looks by deflecting incoming passes could help as well.

“He’s one of the best scorers in our conference,” Gates said. “I think you just gotta get a hand up, ultimately. And in those situations, you can’t foul. He’s drawing a lot of fouls from behind the arc as well. He does a little side twist, and sometimes defenders clip his legs. And we have to give them space while also being vertical and contesting the right way, without following his lower body. So we gotta do a great job of that.”

    2) Get after the offensive glass. MSU’s been an average team on the defensive boards this season, ranking 201st with a defensive rebounding rate of 30.3%. That mark, understandably, has climbed to 33.6% in SEC play, which still puts the team in the middle of the pack in the conference. However, over the Bulldogs’ last two games, South Carolina and Bama both pulled down at least 50% of available offensive rebounds. Mizzou’s been an average team going after its misses in league play, but had a major advantage over Ole Miss in that category in its last game, 11-5. Mississippi State boasts a big front line in 6-foot-7 RJ Melendez, 6-foot-7 Cam Matthews, 6-foot-10 Michael Nwoko and 6-foot-10 junior forward KeShawn Murphy. But if the Tigers can rack up second-chance points, it could pose a serious problem for the Bulldogs.

“(They) are one of the teams that I feel like can match our physicality in the SEC,” graduate senior center Josh Gray said. “So it’s just going to be a game of punches and counter punches. So we just gotta stay in it.”

    3) Fire away from distance. Mississippi State has struggled to slow down 3-point shooters this year, allowing opponents to make 35.2% of their treys, which ranks 257th in the country according to KenPom. Triples have accounted for 37.9 of points scored against the Bulldogs in SEC play, the second-highest amount in the conference. The Crimson Tide went 15-31 from long range in their four-point win over MSU on Wednesday — opponents have made at least 10 threes and shot at least 35.7% from deep in each of the team’s five losses this year. Missouri, led by graduate senior guard Caleb Grill, has been the second-best 3-point shooting team in the conference to this point, connecting on 38.6% of their looks from beyond the arc and treys accounting for 45.1% of their field goal attempts. If MU has even an average day from outside, it could make it tough for the Bulldogs to keep up.

    PREDICTION

This game feels like a coin flip to me. On paper, it seems like Mizzou is strong in some spots where Mississippi State is weak, but the black and gold’s track record in Starkville is tough to ignore. I’ll take the Tigers edging out the Bulldogs in a narrow 80-78 victory.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs are gearing up for their upcoming game against the Tigers, and fans are buzzing with excitement. Here’s a preview of what to expect in this highly anticipated Tiger Tip-Off:

    1. Strong Defense: Mississippi State is known for its tough defense, and they will likely bring their A-game against the Tigers. With a solid defensive strategy and strong rebounding, the Bulldogs will make it difficult for the Tigers to score.

    2. Offensive Firepower: The Bulldogs also have some impressive offensive weapons, including sharpshooters and skilled ball handlers. Look for Mississippi State to push the pace and put up some big numbers on the scoreboard.

    3. Player to Watch: Keep an eye on senior guard Iverson Molinar, who leads the Bulldogs in scoring and has the ability to take over a game. His quickness and scoring ability will be a challenge for the Tigers to contain.

    4. Home Court Advantage: Mississippi State will have the home court advantage in this matchup, which could give them an extra edge. The Bulldogs will be looking to feed off the energy of their fans and secure a crucial win.

Overall, the Tiger Tip-Off between Mississippi State and the Tigers promises to be an exciting and competitive game. Both teams will be looking to make a statement and come out on top. Be sure to tune in and catch all the action as these two teams battle it out on the court.

One of the hottest teams in college basketball faces a tought test when Arizona travels to Arizona State for a high-stakes rivalry Saturday matchup on CBS. The Wildcats (14-6, 8-1 Big 12) comfortably won both meetings last season but will face a tougher test this year against an improved group of Sun Devils (12-8, 3-6) that are in the NCAA Tournament conversation.

Arizona sat at No. 10 in the AP Top 25 when the season began, but a 4-5 start knocked the Wildcats out of the poll the first week of December. However, the Wildcats have righted the ship with 10 wins in their last 11 games to seize sole possession of second in the Big 12 standings and are threatening to return to the rankings.

Arizona State has gone the opposite direction after an 8-1 start with an uneven beginning to league play. But with victories over New Mexico, Saint Mary’s and West Virginia on their resume, the Sun Devils are still considered one of the “First Four Out” in Jerry Palm’s Bracketology entering the weekend.

ASU is a balanced team featuring six players averaging double-figure points, while Arizona is headlined by mercurial veteran guard Caleb Love. The reigning Pac-12 Player of the Year willed the Wildcats to a thrilling overtime victory over No. 3 Iowa State on Monday. He’ll look to follow that up with another big game as Arizona seeks to solidify itself as a top conference title contender.

Arizona vs. Arizona State prediction, picks

When Arizona gets going, it can be hard to stop. The Wildcats rank first in the Big 12 in scoring at 79.6 points per conference game, and it’s not just about jacking up a ton of high-variance 3-pointers. Coach Tommy Lloyd’s team also creates a ton of good 2-point looks and reaches the free-throw line. If Caleb Love happens to be hitting from the outside, Arizona becomes lethal. Scoring can be a chore at times for the Sun Devils, and they may struggle to keep it close in the end. Pick: Arizona -7

  • Trump says he ordered airstrikes on Islamic State group in Somalia

Donald Trump says he ordered military airstrikes on a senior attack planner and others from the Islamic State (IS) group in Somalia.

“These killers, who we found hiding in caves, threatened the United States and our Allies,” Trump posted on social media.

“The strikes destroyed the caves they live in, and killed many terrorists without, in any way, harming civilians.”

The BBC could not immediately independently verify the reports.

Trump did not name any of the people targeted in strikes.

The president ended his post with: “The message to ISIS and all others who would attack Americans is that “WE WILL FIND YOU, AND WE WILL KILL YOU!”

In a statement, Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said “our initial assessment is that multiple operatives were killed in the airstrikes and no civilians were harmed”.

Hegseth said the strikes “further degrade” the ability of IS “to plot and conduct terrorist attacks” and “sends a clear signal that the United States always stands ready to find and eliminate terrorists”.

Trump also took a swipe at the former administration, stating the US military had targeted this particular IS planner for years, but accused Joe Biden “and his cronies” of not acting quickly enough “to get the job done. I did!”

US forces killed IS leader, Bilal al-Sudani, and 10 of his operatives in a remote mountainous cave in northern Somalia in 2023, in an operation ordered by Biden.

IS rose to international prominence in the 2010s, particularly in Syria and Iraq, but now its presence is mainly restricted to parts of Africa.

The Somali branch of IS was formed in 2015 by a group of defectors from the al-Qaeda affiliated al-Shabab group – the largest jihadist group in Somalia.

IS in Somalia is notorious for extorting locals and mainly carries out small-scale, sporadic attacks, according to the US Office of the Director of National Intelligence.

In a recent announcement, President Trump revealed that he had ordered airstrikes on the Islamic State group in Somalia. The decision comes as part of ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in the region and protect American interests abroad.

Trump stated that the airstrikes were necessary to prevent further attacks by the Islamic State group and to disrupt their operations in Somalia. He emphasized the importance of taking decisive action against terrorist organizations to ensure the safety and security of the United States and its allies.

The President’s decision has already sparked debate and discussion among politicians and experts, with some questioning the effectiveness of airstrikes in combating terrorism. However, Trump remains firm in his commitment to eradicating terrorism and protecting American interests worldwide.

As the situation in Somalia continues to evolve, it is clear that the fight against terrorism will remain a top priority for the Trump administration. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.

  • Ohio State assistant coach Justin Frye to take OL coaching job with Arizona Cardinals

Ohio State offensive line coach Justin Frye is expected to become the OL coach for the Arizona Cardinals, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. On3’s Pete Nakos confirmed the news.

“Sources: Ohio State offensive line coach Justin Frye is expected to become the offensive line coach of the Arizona Cardinals,” Thamel wrote on Twitter. “Frye is a veteran OL coach with stops at UCLA, Boston College and Temple. Frye was also offensive coordinator during his time at UCLA under Chip Kelly.”

Frye was the OL coach for the Buckeyes over the last three seasons, culminating in a national championship this season. He began his coaching career in 2007 following his playing days as a tackle at Indiana.

He began with the Hoosiers as a grad assistant for two seasons before becoming a GA at Florida in 2009 and ’10.

Frye got his first OL coaching gig at Temple in 2011, coaching in Philadelphia for two years. He then moved to Boston College in 2013, coaching there for five seasons before landing a gig at UCLA.

After one year (2018) at UCLA, Frye added offensive coordinator responsibilities to his plate the next season and was Kelly’s OC for three years before going to Ohio State.

Justin Frye leaving Ohio State for the NFL

With Fyre joining the Arizona Cardinals staff as the OL coach, Ohio State has a hole to fill. Still, everything’s coming up Buckeyes right now after Ryan Day won his first national title.

Despite that, as Day explained after winning the national championship, it’s important to find happiness outside of on-field results. So, while there’s a lot to be proud of, that’s not where he’s getting his own personal happiness.

“If you define your happiness by the results, then you can find yourself focusing on those things,” Ryan Day said. “I don’t. I’m just as proud of this team no matter what happened. But now the best thing is, again, you get to hear about these guys for the history of college football, and these guys get to go back to the Woody and put their arm around their wife and their kids and say, look what dad did.

“To me, that’s all that matters because that’s why you get into coaching. It isn’t to hoist trophies or make big contracts or anything like that. The reason you get into coaching is to help young men reach their dreams and goals, period. At least that’s what I and our staff are in this thing for.”

Ohio State assistant coach Justin Frye is set to leave the Buckeyes to take on the role of offensive line coach with the Arizona Cardinals. Frye has been a key member of the Ohio State coaching staff for the past two seasons, helping to develop one of the top offensive lines in college football.

During his time with the Buckeyes, Frye has worked closely with head coach Ryan Day to shape a dominant offensive line that has paved the way for some of the best rushing attacks in the country. His expertise and leadership will be sorely missed in Columbus, but his opportunity to join an NFL coaching staff is a well-deserved next step in his career.

Frye’s departure is a loss for Ohio State, but it is a big win for the Arizona Cardinals, who are getting a proven and talented coach to lead their offensive line. With Frye at the helm, the Cardinals’ offensive line is sure to benefit from his knowledge and experience, and the team’s offense will be in good hands moving forward.

We wish Justin Frye all the best in his new role with the Arizona Cardinals and thank him for his contributions to the Ohio State program. His impact on the Buckeyes will not be forgotten, and we look forward to seeing what he can accomplish in the NFL.

  • Ohio State Buckeyes Coach Interviews for NFL Job

The Ohio State Buckeyes may be losing one of their coaches to the NFL.

Brad Biggs of The Chicago Tribune has reported that Ohio State offensive line coach Justin Frye has interviewed for the same role with the Chicago Bears.

Frye has been the Buckeyes’ offensive line coach since 2022, and while he faced some stiff criticism early on for missing on many top recruits, he certainly turned things around this past season, helping Ohio State form a rather impressive unit in the trenches.

The 41-year-old played offensive tackle at Indiana between 2002 and 2006 and then earned a graduate assistant job with the Hoosiers in 2007. He spent two years serving in that role before landing another graduate assistant job at Florida in 2009, where he resided for two seasons.

Frye then landed a job as Temple’s offensive line coach in 2011.

The Elwood, In. native also served as offensive line coach for Boston College and UCLA before being promoted to offensive coordinator for the Bruins in 2019.

Frye proceeded to make the move to Ohio State in 2022, where he has also held the title of associate head coach and run game coordinator.

The Buckeyes just won their first national championship in a decade, so it’s no surprise that teams are trying to poach their coaches. It already happened with defensive coordinator Jim Knowles, who recently moved on to Penn State.

Ohio State will also be losing a bunch of key players to the NFL Draft, so it will be interesting to see how the Buckeyes recover in 2025.

The Ohio State Buckeyes football team’s head coach, Ryan Day, is reportedly being sought after by several NFL teams for their head coaching vacancies. Day, who has led the Buckeyes to a 12-1 record this season and a Big Ten Championship, is considered one of the top coaching prospects in college football.

According to reports, Day has already interviewed with multiple NFL teams, including the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Chicago Bears. It is believed that Day’s offensive acumen and ability to develop quarterbacks have caught the attention of NFL teams in need of a head coach.

Day has not publicly commented on the rumors surrounding his potential NFL job opportunities, but many believe that he could be swayed to make the leap to the professional ranks if the right opportunity presents itself.

Stay tuned for updates on Ryan Day’s coaching future as the NFL coaching carousel continues to spin.
