Max’s Best New Movie Has Stellar Critic Scores, This Year’s Hottest Star

Fresh off a theatrical run that drew just $20 million worldwide in limited release, WB’s best new movie in a long while has now hit Max for free (“free”) and is instantly the #1 movie on the service.

That would be Juror #2, directed by none other than Clint Eastwood, which has gotten exceptional critic scores, a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes with 160 reviews in, plus a 91% “certified hot” audience score, a new metric the site uses.

While I don’t know if it will be in Oscar contention, I’m certainly not going to rule it out. No, this is not a remake of 12 Angry Men, though it does share a lot of similarities given that much of it involves Juror #2 convincing a his fellow jury members a defendant is innocent, but with a unique twist that I will not spoil here.

When I say “this year’s hottest star” I am referring to the lead here, Nicholas Hoult, who has long been a great actor, but 2024 has seen him fully break out with this film, a big role in Nosferatu (which itself may be an Oscar contender) and then a spotlight shone on him as Lex Luthor in the first trailer for James Gunn’s Superman, which will be one of the biggest films of next year.

I watched Juror #2 back when you still had to rent it (expensively) on Amazon Prime Video, but it was worth the price of admission, so to speak. It’s hard to talk about the film without getting into spoilers, but Hoult is excellent here, and later today, I’m about to watch him in Nosferatu. Here’s the official synopsis of Juror #2:

“Juror #2 follows family man Justin Kemp (Nicholas Hoult) who, while serving as a juror in a high profile murder trial, finds himself struggling with a serious moral dilemma… one he could use to sway the jury verdict and potentially convict—or free—the accused killer.”

Hoult has long deserved a year like this, with a hilarious comedic role in several seasons of The Great opposite Elle Fanning the last few years. Before that, The Menu, a bunch of X-Men movies as Beast, and one of my favorite roles of his, a self-aware zombie in Warm Bodies. After Lex Luthor, plus this year? I certainly think it’s time for the 35 year-old to be considered an A-list star, if he isn’t already. Definitely check him out in Juror #2.

Max’s Best New Movie, “Eclipse of the Heart,” has been receiving rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. The film, which stars the hottest new talent of the year, Emily Summers, has been praised for its captivating storyline, breathtaking visuals, and standout performances.

With a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes and glowing reviews from top film critics, “Eclipse of the Heart” is shaping up to be one of the must-see films of the year. Max, the director and mastermind behind the film, has once again proven his talent for creating cinematic masterpieces that leave audiences in awe.

If you haven’t already, be sure to catch “Eclipse of the Heart” in theaters this weekend and see for yourself why critics are calling it Max’s best work yet. Trust us, you won’t want to miss this unforgettable cinematic experience.

  • Slash Gets Roasted For Less Than Stellar Acoustic Guitar Solo

Slash Gets Roasted For Less Than Stellar Acoustic Guitar Solo

When you are famous, there is no hiding from the public. Everybody has an opinion on what you wear, what you say, and what you weigh. With the advent of social media, it’s impossible to elude the onslaught of comments – some of them blistering and barbed – from people who consider themselves experts on practically everything under the sun. Having said that, be aware that Slash, 59, (actual name Saul Hudson) the former lead guitarist from Guns N’ Roses, is coming under a barrage of unkind scrutiny for what onlookers believe was a not-up-to-par acoustic guitar performance.

Slash Played ‘Crossroads’ At The Grammy Museum In Los Angeles Last October

It Was A Small Live Event

Let me set the stage for you, so to speak. Per Whiskey Riff, Slash was with renowned music producer Mike Clink. They got together for a small-scale event at the Grammy Museum titled An Evening With Slash And Mike Clink. The pair treated the audience to a song called “Crossroads.” According to the outlet, “…the original “Crossroad” or “Cross Road Blues” written and released by Robert Johnson back in 1936,…”

People Jumped On Slash On X With Harsh Words For His Acoustic Guitar Playing

“Seems like he is trying too hard.”

“He ain’t no Billy Strings that for damn sure!”

“Not clean and somehow soulless? Never understood the fuss about this guy’s playing. SRV [Stevie Ray Vaughan] this isn’t…”

“play acustic is sooooooooo different to play electric….average”

Others Praised Slash’s Performance With Equal Vehemence

The strings met their true master.”

    “Love it!”

    “He is so good.”

    Good stuff.”

Slash has been demonstrating his talent on guitar for 40 years.

Guns N’ Roses Was Inducted Into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame In 2012

Slash And His Band Mates Deserved The Prestigious Honor

Per the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame web site, “Mainstream hard rock wasn’t the same after the members of Guns n’ Roses sank their teeth into it. The band’s sound combined a reverence for classic rock titans (to name a few, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Aerosmith and Queen) with metal’s abrasive snarls and punk’s sneering dislike of authority.”

    Well said!

Earlier this week, rock legend Slash found himself in the hot seat after a less than stellar acoustic guitar solo during a live performance. Fans and critics alike took to social media to roast the iconic guitarist for the lackluster performance.

Many fans were quick to point out that Slash is known for his electric guitar skills, and that perhaps the acoustic guitar just isn’t his strong suit. Others joked that it sounded like he had never picked up an acoustic guitar before in his life.

While Slash is undeniably a guitar virtuoso, this mishap just goes to show that even the best can have an off night. Hopefully, Slash will take this as a learning experience and come back stronger than ever in his future performances.

In the meantime, the internet continues to buzz with memes and jokes about Slash’s less than stellar acoustic guitar solo. It’s all in good fun, but it’s definitely a reminder that even the greatest rock stars have their off days.

Wall Street points toward gains on final day of a stellar year for US markets

Wall Street was on track to open with small gains Tuesday, the final day of trading in what’s been a banner year for U.S. markets.

Futures for the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average each rose about 0.3% before the bell.

The retail sector helpedto lift markets earlier after significant declines — mostly in the technology sector — dragged Wall Street down the past two trading sessions.

Markets tumbled on Monday, denting what has otherwise been a wildly bullish stretch for investors thanks to a growing economy, solid consumer spending and a strong jobs market.

Despite the post-holiday slump, the S&P 500 is up about 24% heading into the final day of 2024. The Nasdaq is up nearly 30% and the Dow has gained 13%.

Markets have been energized by receding inflation, which has gotten closer to the Federal Reserve’s 2% target. That raised hopes that the central bank would deliver multiple interest rate cuts into next year, which would ease borrowing costs and fuel more economic growth.

Yet after three interest rate cuts in 2024, the Fed has signaled a more cautious approach heading into 2025 with inflation remaining sticky as the country prepares for President-elect Donald Trump to transition into the White House. Trump’s threats to hike tariffs on imported goods have raised anxiety that inflation could be reignited as companies pass along the higher costs from tariffs.

After closing for the holiday Wednesday, the U.S. on Thursday will release updated figures for construction spending last month, as well as weekly jobless claims data. There will be new data on manufacturing released Friday.

In Europe at midday, France’s CAC 40 jumped 0.8%, while Britain’s FTSE 100 climbed 0.6%. German markets are closed on New Year’s Eve and Jan. 1 with trading set to continue Thursday.

    Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 in Sydney skidded 0.9% to 8,159.10.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng added nearly 0.1% to 20,059.95, while the Shanghai Composite lost 1.6% to 3,351.76 after Chinese manufacturing data seemed to show that Beijing’s stimulus measures have not done enough to boost the nation’s sluggish economy.

China’s Purchasing Managers’ Index, based on a survey of factory managers, slipped to 50.1 in December from 50.3 the previous month, the National Bureau of Statistics said Tuesday. It was the third straight monthly reading above 50, a level that indicates an expansion of manufacturing activity.

Markets in Tokyo and Seoul were closed for New Year holidays.

Trading is set to resume in Tokyo on Jan. 6, as markets will stay closed for the rest of the week for the New Year holidays. South Korean markets will be closed for New Year’s Day and resume trading Thursday.

As 2021 comes to a close, Wall Street is gearing up for one final day of gains in what has been a remarkable year for US markets. Despite facing challenges such as the ongoing pandemic, inflation concerns, and supply chain disruptions, stocks have surged to record highs, with major indexes posting double-digit gains.

Investors are optimistic about the outlook for 2022, as the economy continues to recover and corporate earnings remain strong. The Federal Reserve’s commitment to keeping interest rates low has also provided a boost to equities, as investors seek higher returns in a low-yield environment.

As the final trading day of the year approaches, all eyes are on the major indexes to see if they can finish the year on a high note. The Dow Jones Industrial Average, S&P 500, and Nasdaq are all poised to end 2021 with impressive gains, reflecting the resilience of the US economy and the stock market.

Overall, it has been a stellar year for US markets, with investors reaping the rewards of a strong bull run. As we look ahead to 2022, there are sure to be challenges and uncertainties, but for now, Wall Street is pointing toward gains on the final day of what has been an extraordinary year for stocks.

Investors are feeling optimistic as the year comes to a close, with hopes for a strong finish to 2021 and momentum heading into the new year. Economic indicators have been positive, with unemployment rates dropping and consumer confidence on the rise.

As we look ahead to 2022, there are still uncertainties in the market, including inflation concerns and the ongoing effects of the pandemic. However, for now, Wall Street is focused on celebrating a successful year and looking forward to what the future may bring.

  • Fantasy Football Week 17 Waiver Wire: Bryce Young looks to have another stellar outing vs. Bucs

Fantasy Football Week 17 Waiver Wire: Bryce Young looks to have another stellar outing vs. Bucs

If you’re reading this, that likely means you made it to the championship game, so congratulations. Now, let’s finish the job.

Week 17 is a little wacky, with two Wednesday games, a Thursday game, and three Saturday games. You’ll have to make sure your lineup is right, with a lot of moving parts when it comes to injuries.

For example, George Pickens (hamstring) could return for Wednesday’s game against Kansas City, but Justice Hill (concussion) could be out at Houston. Unfortunately, we know Tank Dell (knee) is out for the rest of the season.

Kenneth Walker III (ankle) could miss Thursday’s game at Chicago, which is obviously a huge boost for Zach Charbonnet. And, for Saturday, we’ll be waiting for updates on James Conner (knee) at the Rams, Jaleel McLaughlin (quadriceps) at Cincinnati, and potentially if J.K. Dobbins (knee) can return from injured reserve at New England.

Other injuries to monitor for Sunday and Monday include the quarterback situation in Philadelphia with Jalen Hurts (concussion) and Kenny Pickett (ribs) and the quarterback situation in Cleveland with Jameis Winston (shoulder) and Dorian Thompson-Robinson (calf). Obviously, we’d love to see Hurts against Dallas and Winston against Miami.

We also have to watch what’s happening with Alvin Kamara (groin) vs. Las Vegas and, Isaac Guerendo (hamstring) vs. Detroit at running back, Drake London (hamstring) at Washington, and Jaylen Waddle (knee) at Cleveland at receiver, and David Njoku (knee) vs. Miami and Cade Otton (knee) vs. Carolina at tight end.

Hopefully, you advanced with a healthy roster, but you might need to make some tweaks for the championship game in Week 17. And that’s why you’re here.

Good luck with your waiver moves. And good luck with your lineups in Week 17.

Editor’s note: For this waiver wire column, we are mainly looking at players rostered in less than 65 percent of CBS Sports leagues.

    Week 17 Waivers

Injuries: Josh Allen (elbow), Jalen Hurts (concussion), Kenny Pickett (ribs), Jameis Winston (shoulder), Dorian Thompson-Robinson (calf), Derek Carr (hand) and Drew Lock (shoulder).

Check to see if available in shallow leagues: Caleb Williams (72 percent rostered), Anthony Richardson (72 percent) and Geno Smith (71 percent). Williams has scored at least 18.1 Fantasy points in three of his past five games, including three outings with at least 26.8 points. I like him as a low-end starter in Week 17 against Seattle. … Richardson scored 22.2 Fantasy points in Week 16 against Tennessee and has now run for at least 46 yards in four games in a row, including three rushing touchdowns over that span. He’s worth using as a low-end starter in Week 17 at the Giants. … Smith scored 27.4 Fantasy points in Week 16 against Minnesota, which was his first game with more than 20 points since Week 9. He should have the chance for another quality outing in Week 17 at Chicago, which is a plus matchup.

    Add in this order:

    Week 17 Waiver Priority List

    WAIVER WIRE

    Running Backs

Injuries: James Conner (knee), Trey Benson (ankle), Alvin Kamara (groin), Kenneth Walker III (ankle), J.K. Dobbins (knee), Isaac Guerendo (hamstring), David Montgomery (knee), Justice Hill (concussion) and Jaleel McLaughlin (quadriceps).

Check to see if available in shallow leagues: Jaylen Warren (77 percent rostered), Javonte Williams (76 percent), Tank Bigsby (74 percent), Alexander Mattison (72 percent), J.K. Dobbins (71 percent), and Kendre Miller (69 percent). Warren scored 14.2 PPR points in Week 16 at Baltimore, and he has scored at least 9.2 PPR points in six of his past seven games. It will be hard for the Steelers to run on the Chiefs in Week 17, so Warren could help in the passing game. And he has at least four catches in three of his past six games. … Williams scored 12.3 PPR points in Week 16 at the Chargers with McLaughlin out, and Williams had seven catches for 29 yards on 11 targets. He could be a flex option in Week 17 at the Bengals, especially if McLaughlin is out again. … Bigsby scored a touchdown in Week 16 at Las Vegas but also lost a fumble and finished with 10.1 PPR points. He’s now scored a touchdown in two of his past three games, including Week 14 at Tennessee, when he had 18 carries for 55 yards and one catch for 7 yards on one target. He faces the Titans again in Week 17 and is worth using as a flex. … Mattison had 16 total touches (four catches on seven targets) in the first game without Sincere McCormick (ankle) in Week 16 against Jacksonville and now faces the Saints in Week 17. Mattison will continue to split carries with Ameer Abdullah, but Mattison is worth using as a flex at New Orleans. … Dobbins could return from injured reserve in Week 17 at New England, and if that happens, he is worth starting as a No. 2 running back in all leagues. He has missed the past four games with a knee injury. … Miller was bad in Week 16 at Green Bay with eight carries for 15 yards and two catches for 16 yards on two targets, but all of the Saints were terrible on Monday night. They have a better matchup in Week 17 against Las Vegas, and Miller can be a flex if Kamara remains out.

    Add in this order:

    Week 17 Waiver Priority List

    WAIVER WIRE

    Wide Receivers

Injuries: Drake London (hamstring), Zay Flowers (shoulder), George Pickens (hamstring), Jaylen Waddle (knee), Christian Watson (knee), Tank Dell (knee), Chris Olave (concussion), Cedric Tillman (concussion), Xavier Legette (hip), Jalen Tolbert (finger) and Alec Pierce (concussion).

Check to see if available in shallow leagues: Adam Thielen (79 percent rostered), Josh Downs (78 percent), Romeo Doubs (66 percent and Rome Odunze (65 percent). Thielen has scored at least 15.3 PPR points in three of his past four games, including 23.9 PPR points in Week 13 against Tampa Bay. He plays the Buccaneers again in Week 17, and Thielen should be considered a borderline starter in all leagues. … Downs had three catches for 61 yards and a touchdown on four targets in Week 16 against Tennessee, and he’s now scored at least 12 PPR points in five of his past seven games. He has a favorable matchup in Week 17 at the Giants, and Downs should be considered a No. 3 Fantasy receiver in all leagues. … Doubs had a quiet game Monday night against New Orleans with two catches for 20 yards on three targets, but he wasn’t needed in a blowout win. With Watson hurt and a high-scoring game expected in Week 17 at Minnesota, Doubs can be used as a No. 3 receiver in all leagues. … Every week, it seems like Odunze is on the verge of a big game, and he had four catches for 77 yards on seven targets in Week 16 against Detroit. He has at least six targets in eight of his past nine games, and he could be a No. 3 Fantasy receiver in deeper leagues in Week 17 against Seattle.

    Add in this order:

    Week 17 Waiver Priority List

Injuries: David Njoku (knee), Cade Otton (knee), and Will Dissly (shoulder).

Check to see if available in shallow leagues: Zach Ertz (77 percent rostered) and Hunter Henry (72 percent). Ertz had a down game in Week 16 against Philadelphia with one catch for 12 yards on two targets, but prior to suffering a concussion in Week 15 at New Orleans, he scored at least 12.5 PPR points in three games in a row. I still like Ertz as a low-end starter in all leagues in Week 16 against Atlanta. … Henry had four catches for 39 yards and a touchdown on nine targets in Week 16 at Buffalo, and he has now scored at least 9.4 PPR points in eight of his past 10 games, including six outings with at least 12.3 PPR points. He doesn’t have an easy matchup in Week 17 against the Chargers, but it’s a revenge game for Henry, who is a No. 1 Fantasy tight end in all leagues.

As we head into Week 17 of the fantasy football season, one player who should be on your radar for the waiver wire is Bryce Young. The talented quarterback has been on fire recently and is coming off a stellar performance against the Bucs.

Young has been a consistent fantasy producer all season, posting impressive numbers week in and week out. In his last game against the Bucs, he threw for over 300 yards and three touchdowns, cementing his status as a top option at the quarterback position.

With another favorable matchup on the horizon, Young looks poised to have another big outing in Week 17. The Bucs have struggled against the pass this season, giving up the fourth-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks.
