– The surprise teases continue heading into this Saturday night’s WWE Royal Rumble 2025. During her appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Thursday to promote her new ESPN series, Stephanie McMahon-Levesque noted WWE Royal Rumble will have “lots of surprises” that she claims even she doesn’t know about.
“John Cena competing in his last Royal Rumble ever is going to be really meaningful,” she said when discussing the show. “I’m looking forward to Charlotte Flair’s return to the ring, it’s been way too long. Lots of surprises that I don’t even know about, and if I did, I wouldn’t be allowed to say. I don’t know, truthfully. I know some thing, but not all things.”
– During an interview on the Talking With Natasha podcast, WWE Superstar and Pure Fusion Collective leader Sonya Deville described her being the first openly gay woman in WWE as a “happy accident.”
“It was like a big accident,” she began when telling the story. “It’s a really funny story. It’s a happy accident. So I was on Tough Enough, the reality show. The first episode of that show was like the tryouts for the show. So they showed like all the competitors trying out to be on the show. Part of the tryout was an in-ring interview, essentially, with Triple H, the big boss, and a couple other corporate executives. You’re just in the ring. They told you to wear a bathing suit. I’m looking around. My wife laughs at this, too. I’m looking around at all these girls, and they all come from bikini world champions and swimsuit models. They’re all in G-string bikinis. I didn’t get the memo and I’m in a billabong bikini. They all were in like stilettos and I wore a wedge, like a Sam Edelman wedge. Okay. Got it. I just, I didn’t look like the others. I didn’t really fit in with the rest. So here I am in all my glory in a bathing suit, standing in the middle of the ring. If you look back at the video of it, it’s really funny, cause I don’t even know how to like stand in a bathing suit. I’m like legs, like wide apart. Triple H, one of his first questions he asked me, which would be like a pretty standard reality TV show question, ‘are you in a relationship? Are you single?’ They’re trying to get to know the contestants. But for me, it was a loaded question because I had a girlfriend and I was not out at the time. And so I kind of just froze and was like, ‘I have a girlfriend, but she’s not my wife yet.’ Like, I just got nervous and said like a really weird answer and he starts laughing and he’s like, ‘did you just come out on national television?’ I was like, ‘Uh, I guess so. Then I had to like rush backstage to call my girlfriend at the time. Cause she wasn’t even out to her parents and her mom was like onto us, but we were trying to deny it to her. Cause she was not okay with it. So I had to call her and be like, ‘I’m so sorry.’ But if your mom’s watching, cause her mom knew like, ‘Oh, her friend Daria was on this show and she was watching to support her friend.’ But now I just said on the show that she’s my girlfriend, which is, and I said her name. So like she’s just, yeah, she’s done for. It is so confirmed. So I felt so bad. So I called her. ‘She’s like, no, it’s okay.’ Like it was meant to be that way. That was 10 years ago. So that’s my coming out.”
(H/T to Fightful for transcribing the above quotes.)
Sonya Deville made history as the first openly gay woman in WWE, but according to the superstar herself, it was all a “big accident.”In a recent interview, Deville revealed that she never intended to come out publicly while working for the wrestling company. “It was never my intention to be the first openly gay woman in WWE,” she said. “It just kind of happened.”
Deville, whose real name is Daria Berenato, explained that she had been out to her family and friends for years before deciding to share her sexuality with the world. “I just wanted to be myself and live my truth,” she said. “I never expected it to be such a big deal, but I’m grateful for the support I’ve received from fans and colleagues.”
Meanwhile, WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon has been teasing some surprises for the upcoming Royal Rumble event. In a recent tweet, McMahon hinted at some “game-changing moments” that fans won’t want to miss.
Could one of those surprises be related to Deville or another groundbreaking moment for LGBTQ+ representation in WWE? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure: the Royal Rumble is shaping up to be an event to remember.

Stephanie McMahon recently appeared on The Pat McAfee Show to discuss her life inside and outside the wrestling business. The former WWE Chairwoman told a story about her dislike of cats, prompting Natalya to issue a unique challenge.
During a light-hearted chat about animals, McMahon told McAfee she has not liked cats since childhood. Triple H’s wife claimed they “mess with” her and recalled how a cat bit her middle finger when she was in daycare.
Natalya’s love of cats has been referenced on WWE programming for many years. In an interview with Denise Salcedo before the Royal Rumble, the former SmackDown Women’s Champion vowed to change McMahon’s mind about the animal:
“I do have a bone to pick with Stephanie McMahon. Stephanie said on Pat McAfee’s show that she wasn’t a cat person, and I was heartbroken! My cat’s were heartbroken. We were hurting so much hearing that Stephanie doesn’t like cats [laughs]. I was so devastated. I just wanted to send her a text and say that we’re gonna change your mind, Steph.” [1:02 – 1:24]
Natalya even created an Instagram dedicated to her cats. The account currently has 142k followers, more than many WWE Superstars.
Natalya wants Stephanie McMahon to take inspiration from Bayley
In recent years, 2024 Women’s Royal Rumble winner Bayley has become a self-confessed “crazy cat lady” thanks to Natalya.
Natalya is convinced she can turn Stephanie McMahon into a cat person if she is given the opportunity:
“I converted Bayley from being a dog person into a mega cat lover. Yes, I made Bayley into a crazy cat lady, and I’m gonna do the same with Stephanie McMahon. I promise you. That’s a challenge, Steph.” [1:27 – 1:37]
The 2025 Royal Rumble will take place in Indianapolis, Indiana, on February 1. Liv Morgan and Natalya are the only participants who have appeared in every Women’s Royal Rumble since the match debuted in 2018.
Do you think Natalya will turn Stephanie into a cat person? Hit the discuss button and let us know.

Stephanie McMahon is getting back into the WWE fold with a new project.
PWInsider.com is reporting that McMahon is working on a new project for WWE. The untitled project was described as a pro wrestling equivalent to ESPN’s Peyton’s Places series. The ESPN show features Peyton Manning discussing key moments in NFL history with other NFL stars and personalities.
The show will feature Stephanie reflecting on WWE’s biggest moments with other notable figures from the pro wrestling world. PWInsider reports that McMahon has already filmed content for the show and spoke with many names, including Cody Rhodes and Steve Austin.
Stephanie’s new show is still in progress, and no timeline or release date was revealed. The project was announced during a WWE employee and talent town hall meeting on Wednesday. This meeting is also the same one where Triple H was surprised with a WWE Hall Of Fame induction announcement.
Stephanie McMahon stepped down from her role as WWE Chairwoman and Co-CEO in January 2023. This coincided with her father, Vince McMahon, returning to the promotion. Vince has since stepped down due to the sexual assault allegations against him.
Since that time, Stephanie has sporadically appeared on WWE programming. She was at WrestleMania 40, and has been shown on camera sitting ringside at other WWE events.
UPDATE: WWE has released the first trailer for “Stephanie’s Places” online. The series will premiere on ESPN+ in March:
Triple H: Stephanie McMahon Will Always Have A Passion For This
Stephanie McMahon will always have a passion for WWE, but she has enjoyed spending time with her children. Triple H was asked if Stephanie would return to WWE during an appearance on SI Media with Jimmy Traina.
“I would love to see her back. Here’s the thing with her. [She] stepped away. Our kids are at an age [with] one in college and over the next four years, the rest will be in college. We have three girls, so it’s a very formidable time. And a time for her where she’s really enjoying having some downtime. She’s busy, she has a lot of passions, and pediatric cancer is a big thing for her, she’s doing some stuff. She’s still up to speed on a lot of the stuff we’re doing and clearly has her takes and opinions on things and it’s wonderful when she can be around.”
“I think she’ll always have a passion for this,” he said. “Whether she decides to come in and do some stuff, I think she weighs that on her mind all the time. But it’s the, ‘I want to do that, but I don’t want to give up all this time with my kids that I never give back again.’ What’s that saying, you spend 80% of your time you’ll ever spend with your kids until they turn 18, and then it’s over. Very aware of that, and she’s enjoying her time with them, very much so. Giving that up would be a tough push for her right now, but again, you’ll see her again. Maybe at [WWE Raw on] Netflix.”

Stephanie McMahon doesn’t get wrapped up in the noise.
McMahon appeared on The Pat McAfee Show and spoke about dealing with certain aspects of the media. In particular, McAfee asked her how she deals with the cheap shots people have taken at her family over the years. Does she try to stay above it or ignore it?
“So it’s been my whole life. When I was in high school, [that] was when my dad was indicted [on federal charges for conspiracy to distribute anabolic steroids to WWF wrestlers]. The media came after my family in a really big and really hard way to deal with when you’re in high school. And I think at that time, I was filled with a lot of anger and resentment. I had a hard time navigating all of that,” Stephanie explained.
“I think now in my later years when it seems to all happen again, it’s with a little bit of reverence that I can appreciate it because it’s just noise,” she continued. “People have opinions no matter what and that’s great. You can think you know exactly what’s going on, you can give whatever dirt you think you know. But at the end of the day, I know where I stand. That’s how I have to be. Grounded and rooted in who I am and what I believe in and try to ignore the noise.”
Stephanie McMahon also addressed stepping down and taking a leave of absence from WWE in 2023. Stephanie said that leaving was something she needed, but it was good for her.

Stephanie McMahon On People Taking Shots At Her Family: It’s Just Noise, I Know Where I StandStephanie McMahon, WWE’s Chief Brand Officer and daughter of WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, is no stranger to criticism and scrutiny due to her family’s prominent position in the industry. However, Stephanie remains unfazed by those who take shots at her family, stating that it’s just noise to her.
In a recent interview, Stephanie addressed the constant criticism and backlash that comes with being a part of such a high-profile family. She acknowledged that not everyone will agree with the decisions her family makes, but she is confident in where she stands and the work she has done within the company.
“It’s just noise to me,” Stephanie said. “I know where I stand, and I know the impact that my family has had on this industry. We have worked hard to build the WWE into what it is today, and I am proud of the legacy we have created.”
Stephanie went on to explain that she focuses on the positive aspects of her work and the opportunities she has been given, rather than dwelling on the negativity that can come with being in the public eye.
“I have a strong sense of self and confidence in my abilities,” Stephanie added. “I know that not everyone will agree with me or my family, but that’s okay. I am proud of the work we have done and the impact we have had on this industry.”
In closing, Stephanie emphasized that she remains focused on continuing to grow and evolve within the WWE, regardless of the criticism that may come her way.
“I am always looking for ways to improve and innovate within the company,” Stephanie said. “I am not afraid of taking risks and pushing boundaries. That’s what has helped us stay at the top of the industry for so long. So, to those who want to take shots at my family, I say bring it on. I know where I stand, and I am confident in the work that we do.”

Hold onto your hats fans, because Stephanie McMahon is back in the WWE universe, though not in the way you might expect! Forget boardrooms and C-suites, Steph’s diving into the world of… documentary-style TV! As first reported by PWInsider’s Mike Johnson, McMahon is spearheading a brand-new, as-yet-untitled WWE production. Think Peyton’s Places but with suplexes and Stone Cold Stunners instead of touchdowns and Hail Marys. Yes, you heard that right, a deep dive into wrestling history with all the trimmings, and Steph’s at the helm.
Stephanie McMahon’s WWE Next Chapter: Is This the Start of a New Era?
For those unfamiliar with Peyton’s Places, it’s ESPN’s hit show where Super Bowl champ Peyton Manning chats with NFL legends, reliving iconic moments. Think Tom Brady, Joe Montana, and even Jay Leno popping up for a chat. It’s a winning formula, and WWE is clearly hoping to replicate that gridiron magic in the squared circle. And guess what? McMahon has already been spotted filming with some major WWE heavyweights, including Cody Rhodes and the Texas Rattlesnake himself, Stone Cold Steve Austin! Can you imagine the stories these legends have to tell?
Now, the million-dollar question: when and where can we feast our eyes on this wrestling history extravaganza? Details are still under wraps, but the anticipation is already reaching fever pitch. This project marks McMahon’s first official involvement with the company since her resignation in early 2023. Remember the rollercoaster ride? Interim Chairwoman and CEO, then stepping down, then Vince’s return, then his second resignation… it’s been a wild ride.
Since then, Stephanie’s been spotted at various WWE events, including the Hall of Fame ceremony and WrestleMania 40. Triple H even addressed her status at the SummerSlam press conference, saying she didn’t have an official role at that time. Well, looks like things have changed!
And speaking of Triple H, Stephanie was recently seen at WWE HQ shortly after the announcement of her husband’s well-deserved Hall of Fame induction (his second one, no less!). Ever the supportive wife, she sent a heartfelt congratulatory message to the future two-time Hall of Famer. Talk about a power couple.

#Stephanie #McMahons #Big #WWE #Comeback #Control #WWE #NewsReport: Stephanie McMahon working on a new WWE project
The WWE “Town Hall” earlier today (Jan. 29) brought news that Paul “Triple H” Levesque will be inducted in the company’s Hall of Fame as a singles wrestler during WrestleMania 41 week in Las Vegas this April. But that wasn’t the only news to come out of Wednesday’s corporate meeting.
On their Elite paysite, PWInsider shared that it was announced Stephanie McMahon is working on a new project for WWE. McMahon was an on-screen performer for WWE for years, and later also the company’s Chief Brand Officer. She was briefly C.E.O. & Chairwoman after her father Vince’s first resignation in 2022, but resigned shortly after his January 2023 return. Since the accusations in Janel Grant’s lawsuit against him & the company forced Vince out again last January, Stephanie has resumed appearing at WWE events once again. But even as outsiders speculated about her return, WWE officials have insisted she’s happy just being around again.
We thought Stephanie was just at the meeting Wednesday to support her husband, Triple H. But it turns out she was also there because she’s working on a series for WWE.
It’s described as a pro wrestling version of Peyton Manning’s interview show for ESPN, Peyton’s Places, which features Manning talking to other NFL greats and major football figures about big moments from the game’s history. For her show, Stephanie is said to have already talked to Stone Cold Steve Austin, Cody Rhodes, and “several others”.
There’s no timetable for the show’s release, as right now it’s “in the pipeline being worked on for the future”. There was also no broadcast or streaming home mentioned in Insider’s report, although Netflix, home to WWE Network for much of the world, would seem a likely guess.
We’ll keep you posted if we hear anything else. For now, let us know your thoughts on Stephanie McMahon wading a little deeper into the WWE waters.
