  • Dallas Cowboys promote offensive assistant Steve Shimko to QB coach

The Dallas Cowboys filled out the offensive side of their coaching staff on Monday, keeping continuity and the goal of getting the best football out of quarterback Dak Prescott in mind through the entire process. The decision as to who will actually be in the quarterbacks room with Prescott comes after Dallas already added former Carolina Panthers and Buffalo Bills quarterbacks coach Ken Dorsey as an analyst. Instead of Dorsey, it will be an internal promotion for current analyst Steve Shimko.

Shimko replaces a carryover from Mike McCarthy’s staff who also worked his way up from offensive assistant to quarterbacks coach in Scott Tolzien. The former Packers QB was Prescott’s QB coach over the last two seasons. Clearly, the Cowboys value closeness and familiarity as things Prescott has highlighted as important himself, yet still allowed new head coach Brian Schottenheimer to have his say in promoting a coach with ties to his days in Seattle. In Schottenheimer’s first season as offensive coordinator for the Seahawks in 2018, Shimko was a first time NFL coach as an analyst. That Seahawks team went 10-6 and lost in the Wild Card round to the Cowboys, Prescott’s first career playoff victory.

Shimko entered the ranks of professional football after lower level stops at Rutgers, Western Michigan, and JUCO Garden City, but did have a stop in the SEC at Georgia as a graduate assistant in 2015.

Shimko served as assistant quarterbacks coach in his second season with the Seahawks, seeing the benefit of staying at a stop long enough to be promoted. Current Panthers head coach Dave Canales was the QB coach he worked under. Shimko returned to college after the 2019 season, and again stuck at Boston College long enough to go from tight ends coach to quarterbacks in 2022 and offensive coordinator/quarterback coach in 2023.

The BC Eagles ranked top 15 in the country in rushing attempts and yards per game in 2023 with Shimko as OC and QB coach. His résumé checks all of the boxes of being a scheme and philosophy fit in what the Cowboys under Schottenheimer are looking to accomplish.

The overall youth of the Cowboys new staff has been pointed out by many as a potential positive when it comes to not only introducing new ideas, but helping this team create a new culture and identity where everything is earned. The Cowboys must find ways to show any complacency that led to a 7-10 regression out of the playoffs is on its way out of The Star.

Brian Schottenheimer’s first staff as head coach of the Cowboys has come together quickly, and for now shows a level of coherency on the football side of things this franchise has been lacking. As for how it will translate into on-field success, the best that can be said here is that all 32 fanbases are now playing the same waiting game Dallas is following the Eagles Super Bowl win.

The Dallas Cowboys have made a significant coaching move, promoting offensive assistant Steve Shimko to the role of quarterback coach. Shimko, who has been with the Cowboys since 2018, has proven himself as a valuable asset to the team’s offensive staff.

In his new role, Shimko will be responsible for working closely with the quarterbacks, including star player Dak Prescott, to help develop their skills and improve their performance on the field. With his experience and knowledge of the game, Shimko is expected to make a positive impact on the team’s offense.

This promotion comes at a critical time for the Cowboys, as they look to bounce back from a disappointing season and make a strong push for the playoffs. With Shimko now leading the quarterbacks, the team is hopeful that his guidance and expertise will help elevate their game to the next level.

Cowboys fans are excited to see what Shimko will bring to the table as the new quarterback coach and are hopeful that his promotion will help lead the team to success in the upcoming season.

Top international coaches speak of building block performances, foundation stones within the construction of a winning side. Those days that serve as proof of concept and proof of potential; a reference point, a formative experience to look to in the many moments of doubt. The storms in professional sport come with relative regularity, the fierce winds that shake the structures and self-assurance one hopes to build. It is the ability to survive these squalls that create champions, we are told – the top teams swaying with the irregular gusts of the elite level.

For nearly a year, England have pointed to their win over Ireland as one such constitutional cornerstone. Few had given them a prayer as the visitors came chasing their grand slam dream; away the eventual tournament winners went, beaten by the better team as the hosts finally produced a performance of which Twickenham could be proud.

It stands alone in the Steve Borthwick era as the sole win of real, true magnitude – the dispatching of Argentina amid adversity at the World Cup was indisputably impressive under the circumstances but ultimately came against a flawed opponent. Two years since his arrival marked the end of an era, it is fair to question just how much better England actually are under Borthwick. Certainly, the players find the environment far more enjoyable than that fostered by Eddie Jones, who will be gleefully watching on from the sidelines as a pundit for ITV, and overdue strides have been made to evolve their playing style, but more tangible progress is yet to be evidenced.

An autumn of incertitude left the ledger for 2024 in the red; five wins from 12 fixtures a particularly poor return in a year that included two encounters with Japan. 14 wins, in all, from 28 games under Borthwick is not flash, either; more coaching upheaval and accusations of an unstable working environment cause to question if Jones’s apprentice had learned too many methods from his past master.

So England embark again, intent on finding their identity and proof of their progression. No direct targets have been draped on Borthwick’s neck but the heavy albatross of expectation always hangs for a nation of such riches and resources.

An inimical start could throw the campaign off course before it has even truly begun. France at home in round two will raise the ghouls of a ghastly Twickenham day in 2023 but first, it is the defending champions in Dublin that must be negotiated. Ireland will not be intent on revenge, seeing the bigger picture, but there are clearly wrongs to be righted – if England aren’t at it, they will become collateral damage in Ireland’s chase for history.

England pipped Ireland at Twickenham last year in the signature result of the Steve Borthwick era

The twice-defending champions against a team that recorded a losing record last year? One might usually suggest a foregone conclusion. But the confidence in the visitors comes partly by dint of that Twickenham heyday, and also the unwavering belief that a squad of players this talented will surely – at some point – come good.

Is now that time? Borthwick is never one to rip things up unnecessarily and despite an autumn that brought three defeats, many combinations remain in place. From Ellis Genge and Will Stuart as a propping pair through to Henry Slade and Ollie Lawrence in midfield – starting together for the 11th consecutive Test – there are signs of the cohesion and continuity that the head coach has always sought.

There are intriguing tweaks, though. Maro Itoje is set to lead the squad into the 2027 World Cup but his elevation to the captaincy is also an admission that immediate results must improve; a long-term decision made with the short-term in mind. The picking of Ben Curry alongside twin Tom and the ever-important Ben Earl is evidence that Borthwick, a bolder selector than some suggest, recognises a need to do things differently.

Ben and Tom Curry will start together in England colours for the first time

Once utilised together at under-18 level amid a desperate search for new opensides, this current confluence shows a clear plan to stymie and stall Ireland’s phase attack and strike quickly in transition – even if it leaves England vulnerable elsewhere.

“Clearly there’s always a blend and always a trade-off of what you decide to do and why you decide to do it,” Borthwick explained. “It is my job to weigh up all those considerations and I am sure Paul O’Connell and the Irish lineout will look at this and try to attack us in that area. We will have to be very good.

“The back row [I have selected] can run. All three players have got incredible engines, incredible mobility, they are fantastic players defensively, their tackling and their jackal, they carry the ball well.”

There might be a few crossed fingers at Allianz Stadium as the Twickenham tumult continues. The future of Bill Sweeney, Borthwick’s line manager among a great many other duties, remains firmly in doubt ahead of a 27 March special general meeting.

A cynic might suggest that the date had been chosen with precise purpose in the (perhaps misplaced) hope of a Six Nations that leaves a far more optimistic outlook for English rugby. Borthwick batted away suggestions that the turmoil above him would have any impact during this tournament. “It’s not something that we’ve discussed in camp,” said Borthwick. “I know Bill has regular contact with senior players and has a very good relationship with the senior players.

“We’re on the eve of the Six Nations; we are playing against one of the world’s best teams in Dublin, and in this incredible tournament. That’s what is on the players’ minds. Nothing about any other matter than that.”

There is a Percy Bysshe Shelley poem that speaks of a dying king and a fainting people clung to by leech-like leaders flowing through public scorn. For England in 1819, perhaps read English rugby now – in need of a uniting force to blow belief back into a flailing game. Shelley’s last couplet speaks of a phantom that may “burst to illumine our tempestuous day”. The storm clouds gather but a stirring English Six Nations success might just help clear the gloom.

With the Six Nations tournament just around the corner, all eyes are on England’s new head coach, Steve Borthwick. After taking over the helm from Eddie Jones, Borthwick has big shoes to fill and high expectations to meet.

One crucial decision that Borthwick will have to make is selecting his squad for the upcoming tournament. With key players like Maro Itoje, Owen Farrell, and Tom Curry at his disposal, Borthwick has the tools to lead England to success.

However, Borthwick will have to make some tough decisions, especially when it comes to selecting his starting XV. With strong competition from teams like France, Ireland, and Wales, every decision Borthwick makes will be crucial in determining England’s fate in the Six Nations.

It’s time for Borthwick to deliver and prove that he has what it takes to lead England to victory. The decisions he makes in the coming weeks will be pivotal in shaping England’s Six Nations campaign. England fans will be eagerly watching to see if Borthwick can rise to the challenge and lead his team to glory.

  • Touching Tractor Tribute: Farmers Bid Farewell to Steve Hamm, a Loyal Lifeline in the Field

A love for tractors and an admiration for John Deere green. That’s how you’d describe Steve Hamm, a John Deere mobile technician for 30 years. A father and grandpa, he was loved by many, as many in the community will tell you he was truly dedicated to his craft.

“Steve was a pioneer for that kind of knowledge. We really depended on him,” says Chris Roberson, general manager of Ag-Power, the John Deere dealership in Richmond, Mo., where Steve worked.

“He was a man of integrity,” says Dennis Estes, who worked with Steve at Ag-Power, but was also Steve’s friend and the pastor at his church. “He had a passion for what he did, and he was a person who served a lot of people.”

As a technician, Steve’s career revolved around service, but even then, Steve went above and beyond time and again.

“He lived to serve,” Roberson says. “He put everyone else above him or before him, and he was on call all the time. Whether it involved work or even personal family matters. He was always able to be reached and counted on.”

“You look at the communities that Steve served, people from small towns and everywhere else who called Steve, if it was 10 at night, Steve took the call,” says Estes.

Estes says for area farmers, Steve was a loyal lifeline in the field, providing a service no matter the time and no matter how challenging the issue was that needed fixed.

“This equipment is so complicated these days. And Steve pursued the passion of always learning,” says Estes. “If there was anything he couldn’t fix, he found out how to fix it, and he wouldn’t quit. He had the passion that made him pursue that until he got it. And I think that’s what really sets him apart.”

Roberson says on paper, Steve was a master technician, which is the highest honor you can receive as a John Deere technician. But he was more than that. Steve had a wealth of knowledge he passed on to others.

A man who dedicated three decades of his life to helping others was remembered in a remarkable way this past week. On a crisp, sunny Tuesday morning, those same farmers who Steve served for all those years found a way to show just how grateful they were.

“I’ve never seen a tribute for somebody that was more compelling probably than that tribute,” Estes says.

Tractor after tractor, combines with their augers out, all lined the road next to the cemetery where Steve would be laid to rest.

“I couldn’t help but think as we were doing the graveside service the effort made by so many people to be there,” Estes says. “As I looked up on the hill at all of the farmers, it was almost as if it was a mist because you could see the moisture in the eyes of so many of these people, many hardened individuals. Farmers who are used to being out in nature and fighting it, whether flood or drought or whatever it is, and through that toughness, they still had those kind of feelings for Steve.”

Farmers who never had the chance to say thank you or goodbye, stepped up to the call this week with a touching tractor tribute.

“He deserved every bit of that tribute. He didn’t ever ask for it. I hope he’s smiling down on us,” Estes says.

The touching tractor tribute was a nod to something Steve loved so much, as he took his final ride.

Today, the farming community is mourning the loss of a beloved member, Steve Hamm, who was not just a farmer, but a loyal lifeline in the field. As a tribute to his memory, fellow farmers came together to bid farewell to Steve in a touching tractor procession.

Steve Hamm was known for his dedication to his farm and his willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was always ready to share his knowledge and expertise with others, making him a respected figure in the farming community.

In honor of Steve, farmers from all around gathered with their tractors to form a procession that traveled through the fields that Steve once worked. The sight of the tractors lined up in a row, each one bearing a sign or banner in tribute to Steve, was a powerful reminder of the impact he had on those around him.

As the procession made its way through the fields, the sound of the tractors filled the air, a fitting farewell to a man who had spent so much of his life working the land. The tribute was a touching reminder of the bonds that unite farmers and the deep sense of community that exists among those who work the land.

Steve Hamm may no longer be with us, but his legacy lives on in the fields he tended and the hearts of those who knew him. The touching tractor tribute was a fitting send-off for a man who will be dearly missed but never forgotten. Rest in peace, Steve Hamm.

  • Stephen Curry, Steve Kerr have concerns about Jimmy Butler joining the Warriors: Sources

Will the Golden State Warriors trade for Jimmy Butler? The answer will come down to the wishes of Stephen Curry.

I reported on Tuesday morning that the Warriors were back in the mix for Butler now that the Heat have dropped their asking price. Then on Wednesday, The Athletic’s Anthony Slater and Marcus Thompson added intriguing details, noting the Warriors’ initial reluctance due to concerns across every level of the organization about price tag and potential “combustion.”

My league sources confirm these hesitations, revealing Curry himself has reservations about Butler’s fit in the Warriors’ locker room — a sentiment shared by head coach Steve Kerr. Their worries stem from Butler’s tumultuous history with previous teams:

In Chicago, Butler clashed with multiple teammates, including Joakim Noah and Rajon Rondo, and publicly slammed his head coach Fred Hoiberg.

In Minnesota, there was the infamous practice incident where he yelled at teammates, coaches and executives before conducting an interview with Rachel Nichols.

In Philadelphia, he refused to shoot 3-pointers because of his issues with Brett Brown’s offensive system.

And now in Miami, he’s feuding with Pat Riley, missing flights and disrespecting his teammates.

It’s no wonder Curry would be unsure about wanting Butler in the same locker room as Draymond Green, who has his own unique brand of team chemistry roulette. Are we really ready for the Draymond-Jimmy Buddy Cop movie? Curry’s probably having nightmares of Butler yelling, “You f***ing need me!” while Green’s busy recording his next podcast rant.

I would not trade for Butler if I were the Warriors. As much as he’d help the team as a versatile defender and a downhill attacker, adding Butler’s I’m-the-captain-now energy to a ship that’s barely staying afloat is a bad idea compared to other routes for the Warriors. Blowing it up would be a more sensible long-term approach, as I wrote in-depth about last week. So would staying patient and waiting until the offseason to find out what other opportunities are available. Who knows? If the Suns implode, maybe Kevin Durant would want to move to the Bay Area.

It’d be one thing if Butler were easily acquirable, but he makes $48 million this season. The Warriors would need to give up Andrew Wiggins and some combination of important players to make any deal work financially, such as Gary Payton II, Kyle Anderson and Jonathan Kuminga. As Green himself said on his podcast, trading for a player making that much money is a challenge.

The Heat have lowered their asking price for Butler because they’re tired of his act, and they’d like to get something in return instead of letting him walk in free agency for nothing. There’s a fear in Miami that the Nets could absorb salaries this offseason to free cap space for a team, such as the Rockets, to outright sign Butler.

But if the Warriors bypass the opportunity to trade for Butler, and if the Suns can’t find a team willing to take on Bradley Beal, then what happens for the Heat? Maybe the Bucks re-enter the sweepstakes. Or maybe the Rockets decide to make a splash now instead of waiting for free agency. But executives around the NBA keep pointing to Memphis.

It’s been widely reported the Grizzlies were informed that Butler doesn’t want to play there. But they still keep popping up as the team that could end up with Butler in return for what Miami desires: short-term salaries and headache relief.

According to sources close to the Golden State Warriors, both Stephen Curry and head coach Steve Kerr have expressed concerns about the potential addition of Jimmy Butler to the team.

While Butler is undoubtedly a talented player, there are worries about how his strong personality and demanding playing style could potentially disrupt the team chemistry that the Warriors have worked hard to build over the years.

Curry and Kerr are known for their emphasis on teamwork and selfless play, and there are concerns that Butler’s more individualistic approach could clash with the team’s culture.

Additionally, there are questions about how Butler would fit into the Warriors’ already star-studded lineup, and whether his presence would disrupt the balance of the team.

While nothing has been confirmed yet, it seems that Curry and Kerr are approaching the possibility of Butler joining the Warriors with caution. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

  • Why Steve Smith is probably the last to score 10,000 Test runs – Osman Samiuddin

Smith-esque. That is to say, the shot that brought Steve Smith his 10,000th Test run was not pretty or ugly. It was just very Smith: a whole lot of fidgety movement, teasing a flamingo, all very compelling, all very watchable for its enduring weirdness, all for a single to wide mid-on. In doing so he became the 15th batter to make it to 10,000 runs. He could be the last.
Kane Williamson and Virat Kohli are, respectively, 724 and 770 runs short, and on the surface, not that far. But the modern cricket calendar is working against Williamson getting there. He is 34, has a maximum of four Tests this year, his 15th as a Test player, and has presently opted out of a central contract. Meanwhile, invisible stumps outside off as well as general bad juju seem to be conspiring against Kohli. He has nine Tests potentially this year, although five this summer in England loom first as decisive.

Even if either or both get there, they’ll be the last for a while. Angelo Mathews and Dimuth Karunaratne are the next two in line, but neither will get there, if only because they won’t play enough Tests to score the 2000-odd runs they need. Even Marnus Labuschagne, who is 30, has played 56 Tests, and plays for a country that plays enough Tests, is over 5000 runs away currently.

Which might, in time, create the same aura around Smith’s feat as when Sunil Gavaskar became the first man to get there, nearly 40 years ago: it was distant, towering, impossible, unimaginable. It remained that way for a while once Gavaskar had late-dabbed Ijaz Faqih for those runs and said that he’d have been happy enough with a thousand runs, let alone the 9000 extra. Allan Border didn’t get there until nearly six years later, a pioneer for the likes of Steve Waugh, Younis Khan and Rahul Dravid in the 10k club, for making it look like the slog it must have been.

And then nobody else for a decade.

But when Brian Lara and Sachin Tendulkar got there, within six months of each other, it begat an age when getting to 10k happened often enough that some of the extraordinariness of the feat started slipping away. It wasn’t humdrum, but for a while in the 2000s, as six batters got there, it did feel a little commonplace. It spoke not only of a spike in the amount of Test cricket being played, but also perhaps of a golden age for batting: of the 30 batters with over 50 Tests in the 2000s, 11 finished with a 50-plus average.
Then, Dravid, Ricky Ponting, Jacques Kallis, one after the other in less than a year to round off a glutton’s decade. Five more got there in the 2010s, Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara bromancing so hard they decided to get there exactly a year apart. Shivnarine Chanderpaul shuffled to the mark quietly between them. It took Chanderpaul over 18 years – the longest in terms of time – to get there from his debut, which is such a pleasing old-world fact. Who plays Tests for two decades anymore? Who takes that much time over anything anymore?

It’s easy enough to argue for the greatness of all these batters. It’s also easy to argue – as becomes clearer watching cricket of this era – that the 2000s, in particular, was a golden age for batting pitches.

Two of the last four to reach the landmark are English. Joe Root got there in half the time Chanderpaul took, and 22 Tests fewer. If you say out loud what this means – that Root scored 10,000 runs in less than ten years – it sounds ridiculous. He beat Alastair Cook’s record for the shortest time taken to get there (just over ten years). Given how many more Tests England play than any other nation, Cook and Root got there with a greater sense of inevitability than most on that list.

Smith’s 10,000 is a reminder alas that nothing about batting, about cricket, about sport, about life, is inevitable.

Steve Smith is undoubtedly one of the greatest batsmen of our generation, but why is he most likely the last player to reach the milestone of 10,000 Test runs?

There are a few reasons for this prediction. Firstly, the modern game has seen a shift towards shorter formats such as T20 and ODI cricket, which means that players are playing fewer Test matches and therefore have less opportunity to accumulate runs. With the rise of franchise leagues and the increasing demands on players, it is becoming increasingly rare for a player to have a long and successful Test career.

Secondly, the demands of modern cricket are greater than ever before. With the rise of faster and more aggressive bowling, as well as the increasing competitiveness of international teams, it is becoming harder for batsmen to consistently score runs at the highest level. Injuries and burnout are also common issues for players, which can further limit their longevity in Test cricket.

Lastly, the sheer talent and skill required to reach 10,000 Test runs is immense. Smith has shown time and time again that he possesses the ability to score runs against the best bowlers in the world, but not every player has the same level of talent and determination. It takes a special kind of player to reach such a milestone, and it is unlikely that we will see another player like Smith in the near future.

In conclusion, while Steve Smith has already achieved the incredible feat of scoring 10,000 Test runs, it is highly unlikely that we will see another player reach this milestone in the near future. The demands of modern cricket, the talent required, and the shifting priorities of players all point towards Smith being the last of his kind.

  • Astros trade could lead to Bregman reunion, Steve Cohen draws the line on Pete Alonso | Baseball Bar-B-Cast

Over the weekend, the Houston Astros were finally able to trade reliever Ryan Pressly to the Chicago Cubs after he agreed to waive his no-trade clause and sign off on the deal. With the trade going through and some money being saved, could this mean the Astros are willing to bring back a familiar face at third base?

Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman discuss whether the Pressly-Cubs trade could indicate that Houston is trying to find funds to re-sign Alex Bregman and reunite him with Jose Altuve, something the second baseman has said he’s willing to do by moving to the outfield to help accommodate the team. Even though the Astros have, in theory, moved on from the two-time All-Star based on the moves they’ve made, perhaps a reunion could be in the cards now.

Also on this episode of the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, the guys talk about comments made by New York Mets owner Steve Cohen at Amazin’ Day, which suggest he might be drawing a line in the sand regarding bringing back Pete Alonso and why he may be showing agent Scott Boras he’s done being taken advantage of. Later, Jake and Jordan discuss some controversy in the LIDOM championship that might involve a corked bat, as well as the Washington Nationals doing something they’ve never done before.

  • Arch Manning reveals advice he received from Quinn Ewers, Steve Sarkisian ahead of 2025 season

Not long after Ohio State beat Texas in the Cotton Bowl to end the 2024 season for the Longhorns, Texas QB Arch Manning was already thinking ahead to 2025. Manning played mostly in a reserve role for Texas the past two seasons. But he will finally get his chance to shine this upcoming year.

Manning recently sat down with ESPN’s Marty Smith for an interview and revealed the message he received from Quinn Ewers ahead of the 2025 season.

“Kind of right after the Ohio State game I was with Quinn in the locker room,” Manning recalled. “He was just like, ‘Enjoy every moment. It goes by quickly. So love on your teammates and have fun.’”

That is obviously excellent advice from Ewers, who is off to the NFL after leading the Longhorns to the semifinals of the College Football Playoff in 2024. Ewers spent three seasons at Texas after starting his career at Ohio State as a decorated recruit. He knows all too well how quickly time goes by while playing college football.

In addition to Ewers, Manning also received advice from Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian about what to do now that he is the leader of the Texas team.

“Coach Sark just told me to be myself and be a leader and work hard and it’ll all work out,” Arch Manning said.

Manning started two games for the Longhorns this past season while Quinn Ewers was injured, leading Texas past ULM and Mississippi State. He also saw limited playing time in several other games.

For the year, Manning finished with 939 passing yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions while completing 67.8 percent of his passes. Manning also rushed for 108 yards and four scores. He is looking forward to his opportunity to finally be the full-time starter for the Longhorns.

“I think my first start against ULM I kind of forced some shots down field and was a little bit greedy,” Arch Manning said. “But then the next week against Mississippi State settled in. The hardest part was you get a little taste of what it’s like and you love it. And then you go back to not playing. That was pretty tough.

“I haven’t really played much, so I guess it hasn’t really started. But it’s been fun. I’ve enjoyed it. I’ve learned a lot. I love my coaches, love my teammates. So I’m ready to get it rolling.”

Arch Manning, the highly touted quarterback prospect in the class of 2023, has revealed the advice he received from fellow quarterback Quinn Ewers and Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian as he prepares for the 2025 season.

In a recent interview, Manning shared that Ewers, who recently transferred to Texas from Ohio State, told him to trust his instincts and always stay true to himself on and off the field. Ewers, who knows a thing or two about being in the spotlight as a highly recruited quarterback, emphasized the importance of staying grounded and focusing on what truly matters.

On the other hand, Steve Sarkisian, the head coach of the Texas Longhorns, offered Manning advice on how to navigate the pressures of being a top recruit and potential future star in college football. Sarkisian emphasized the importance of hard work, dedication, and maintaining a strong work ethic in order to succeed at the highest level.

Manning, who comes from a long line of successful quarterbacks, including his grandfather Archie Manning and uncles Peyton and Eli Manning, is no stranger to high expectations. With the guidance and advice from Ewers and Sarkisian, he is poised to make a significant impact in the upcoming 2025 season and beyond. Stay tuned for what promises to be an exciting journey for Arch Manning as he continues to carve out his own path in the world of college football.

  • Steve Kerr inserts rookie Quinten Post into Warriors’ starting lineup

SAN FRANCISCO — Steve Kerr joked that he’s trying to set the record for most different starting lineups in a season.

    He’s not a on a bad pace.

Golden State’s latest wrinkle is inserting two-way center Quinten Post into the starting-five, taking the place of Trayce Jackson-Davis. Post, who has impressed in his first four games in an NBA rotation, gives the Warriors a new look as a floor-spacing center.

The starting-five of Post, Steph Curry, Buddy Hield, Andrew Wiggins and Gary Payton II is the Warriors’ 28th unique starting lineup combination of the season — tied with Philadelphia for the most this year. Memphis set the all-time record for distinct starting units last year with 51.

Post has been shooting the ball with confidence from behind the arc, hoisting up four, 10, five and five 3-point attempts in the past four games. The 24-year-old rookie has developed fast chemistry with Curry, whom he’d never played alongside — not even in training camp — before last week.

Draymond Green and Jonathan Kuminga remain sidelined by injuries, but it’s easy to imagine Post’s skill set unlocking them when they return.

“I think the beauty of a stretch big is that everybody can play with a stretch big,” Kerr said earlier this week. “It opens up the floor. It literally makes everybody better.”

Post is shooting 37.5% from 3 on what’s still a small sample. There are concerns about his defensive ability, particularly in the pick-and-roll and in staying out of foul trouble. Oklahoma City, which plays a five-out style, is bound to target him by drawing him out of the paint on switches.

The Golden State Warriors made a surprising move by inserting rookie Quinten Post into the starting lineup for their upcoming game. Head coach Steve Kerr has shown confidence in the young center, who has impressed in limited minutes off the bench.

Post, a second-round pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, has shown flashes of potential with his size, shooting touch, and defensive instincts. Kerr believes that Post’s skill set will complement the team’s starting lineup and provide a new dynamic on both ends of the court.

Fans are excited to see how Post will perform in his first start and are hopeful that he can make an impact alongside the Warriors’ star players. Kerr’s decision to shake up the lineup shows his willingness to give young players opportunities to prove themselves and contribute to the team’s success.

Stay tuned to see how Post fares in his debut as a starter and how this lineup change will affect the Warriors’ performance in the upcoming games. #Warriors #QuintenPost #SteveKerr #NBAStarters

  • Steve Kerr’s bold rotation call should only fuel trade speculation on veteran forward

Having missed their three top power forward options over multiple games, one would have expected the Golden State Warriors to be eager in welcoming one back from injury for Saturday’s matchup with the Los Angeles Lakers.

While Draymond Green and Jonathan Kuminga are both set to spend more time on the sidelines, Kyle Anderson was off the injury report and available after a five-game absence due to a glute injury.

Kyle Anderson’s DNP may only fuel trade speculation

But instead of welcoming Anderson quickly back to the rotation, Steve Kerr chose to continue sitting the veteran forward despite Golden State’s front court injuries. The head coach chose to remain with his young players, with Moses Moody and Gui Santos continuing to play their fare share of minutes at power forward.

Both Moody and Santos have been impactful over recent games, particularly shooting the ball as Kerr searches for more offense. They weren’t overly impactful against the Lakers though, combining for just 14 points and six rebounds on 5-of-12 shooting from the floor.

The Warriors probably could have done with some of Anderson’s defensive versatility, especially given Lakers stars Anthony Davis and LeBron James combined for 61 points, 18 rebounds and 15 assists to lead their team to a 118-108 victory.

If Anderson can’t get minutes while Green and Kuminga are out of the lineup, then what does that say for his role with Golden State moving forward? The 31-year-old was signed to a three-year, $37 million contract in the offseason and was supposed to be a valuable 20-25 minute rotation player, but that hasn’t played out at all even despite the team’s mediocre 22-23 record.

The DNP on Saturday was Anderson’s seventh of the season, having averaged just 15.2 minutes per game. That’s his lowest playing time since his third year in 2016-17, with Anderson see at least 19.9 minutes of playing time in each of the last seven seasons.

Anthony Slater of The Athletic reported last week that Gary Payton II, Kevon Looney, Dennis Schroder and Buddy Hield could be trade candidates prior to the February 6 deadline, but why wouldn’t that list also include Anderson who’s seemingly playing a lesser rotational role than that quartet?

Anderson’s time with the Warriors has been bizarre through the first-half of the season, but if his playing time is anything to go by, seeing him moved prior to the deadline wouldn’t be so astonishing.

After Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr made a bold rotation call in their recent game, benching a veteran forward in favor of a younger player, trade speculation has been ignited in the NBA community.

Kerr’s decision to shake up the lineup and give more playing time to a younger player has raised questions about the veteran forward’s future with the team. Could this be a sign that the Warriors are looking to make a trade to shake up their roster and bring in new talent?

With the trade deadline approaching, all eyes are on the Warriors and their potential moves. Kerr’s bold rotation call only adds fuel to the fire of trade speculation surrounding the veteran forward. Stay tuned as the NBA trade deadline draws near for any potential updates on this developing story.
