President Donald Trump’s Las Vegas stop will see airport, road traffic implications | Las Vegas | News
Significant air and road traffic impacts are likely starting this evening in Southern Nevada as President Donald Trump makes his first visit since returning to the Oval Office.
Trump is expected to land in Las Vegas tonight, after stops in North Carolina and California earlier in the day. He is expected to hold a rally Saturday at Circa Resort & Casino, to begin at 12:30 p.m., to talk about the economy and his “no taxes on tips” proposal.
The Federal Aviation Administration issued a temporary flight restriction for VIP movement going into effect at 6:45 p.m. Friday and lasting until 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
A ramp freeze will take place at Harry Reid International Airport during the arrival and departure of Air Force One, according to the airport. The disruptions will coincide with busy Friday night visitor arrivals at the airport and incoming tourist traffic on northbound I-15.
“Anyone traveling around the airport campus on Friday evening should plan for additional time as temporary road closures will be enacted during presidential movement,” airport spokeswoman Monika Bertaki said in an email.
Although only the basics of Trump’s plans in Las Vegas are known, during previous presidential visits, rolling road closures have affected the Airport Connector Tunnel, Paradise Road, Tropicana Avenue, Spring Mountain Road, the 215 Beltway, Interstate 15, Interstate 11, also known as U.S. Highway 95, Main Street and Las Vegas Boulevard.
Trump likely will spend Friday night at his namesake Trump International hotel. Should that be the case, motorists should expect road impacts in the area surrounding the Trump International, which is located across the Strip from Wynn and Encore and next door to Fashion Show mall. Previous Trump visits have seen Fashion Show Drive near the Trump International close to traffic while the president is present.
When Trump departs Las Vegas, a ramp freeze at Reid airport should also be expected Saturday afternoon, with potential rolling road closures on Las Vegas Boulevard, Tropicana, Paradise, Spring Mountain, the Airport Connector Tunnel, I-15 and the 215.

TULSA, OKLA (KTUL) — **Correction: Oklahoma Senator Regina Goodwin was cited for a traffic violation, not arrested.**
Oklahoma State Senator Regina Goodwin has been cited and released for failing to stop for a stop sign.
According to public records, the traffic violation occurred on Jan. 11, 2025, near the 200 block of E. Archer Street.
Body cam video from the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office shows a deputy conducting a traffic stop on Senator Goodwin.
Goodwin can be heard in the video asking why she’s being stopped.
The deputy replies it’s because she ran two stop signs, but Goodwin said she didn’t.
The deputy repeatedly asked to see her driver’s license and said he wouldn’t ask again, but she continued talking with the deputy.
That’s when he placed her in handcuffs and put her in the back of his patrol unit.
She was later taken out of the patrol unit, was uncuffed, and issued a citation for failing to stop at a stop sign.
Multiple people approached Goodwin while she was with deputies, including Tulsa Mayor Monroe Nichols.

A longtime state senator in Oklahoma was caught-on-camera going head-to-head with a sheriff deputy after a traffic stop dissolved into a “very verbal” ordeal.
Body camera footage obtained by Fox News Digital showed State Sen. Regina Goodwin, a Democrat from Tulsa, repeatedly arguing with Tulsa County Sheriff’s Deputy Freddie Alaniz shortly after 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The scene was recorded by Alaniz’s body-worn camera and began with a tense exchange between the deputy and the elected official. Goodwin was pulled over after Alaniz said that he witnessed the official fail to stop at two stop signs.
“Ma’am, I’m not going to ask you again. Can I get your driver’s license, or can I take you to jail on running a stop sign?” Alaniz asked Goodwin shortly after pulling her over and asking repeatedly for her license. “I’m not going to ask you again. It’s not for debate.”

The pair went back and forth, with Goodwin arguing that the officer was “escalating” the traffic stop.
“That is not true. That is not true at all. I was having a conversation, and you just all of a sudden said, ‘I’ll arrest you,’” Goodwin said.
“No, I said, ‘Or, I can arrest you if that’s what you want,’” Alaniz said.
“I think you really escalated something,” she said. “No, sir — that is, why would that even be an option for you?”

Alaniz: “Because you’re refusing to give me your driver’s license.”
Goodwin: “There was no refusal of me to give you my driver’s license.”
“I asked you over five times to give me your driver’s license, and you kept debating your driver’s license,” the officer responded.
“I was not at all debating my driver’s license, sir, that is not correct,” she replied.

After the initial contentious exchange, Alaniz detained Goodwin in handcuffs and placed her in his patrol vehicle. Her attorney, Mike Manning, who witnessed the scene, spoke with the deputy.
“I realize you have a job to do, officer,” Manning said. “I realize Sen. Goodwin can be a little bit strong-headed at times, but don’t you think you can write her a citation or something? She’ll give you her driver’s license.”
“Yeah, yeah, I can absolutely do that,” Alaniz said. “I don’t need to ask her 10 times for her driver’s license.”
Manning replied: “I saw it. I realize.”
“I don’t have an issue writing her a citation or letting her go, but I’m the one that’s in command of the traffic stop, not her,” the officer said. “She blatantly ran two stop signs, and I was just going to give her a verbal warning and tell her not to do that, but her demeanor — the way that she was — I can’t have that.”
If I don’t allow other people to do that when I do a traffic stop, I’m not going to allow her either.

The officer also called his superior to the scene, saying he pulled Goodwin over for rolling two stop signs and “hauling butt” down the Tulsa street.
“She ran this stop sign back here and the other one that’s a little further down. Just came up, slowed down, and then [zoom] right through them,” Alaniz said. “She was driving so fast that, when she was hitting the puddles of water, it was just [splash] shooting them out. So that’s why I came up and pulled her over. And as I was getting out, she got out of her car, ‘Why are you stopping me?’ You know, just kind of got very verbal. I asked for her driver’s license numerous, numerous times, and she wouldn’t give it to me.”

Secretary of State Marco Rubio directed the State Department on Thursday to immediately stop processing applications from trans, intersex, and nonbinary people for passports that accurately reflect their gender.
Rubio’s order, a copy of which was provided to The Intercept, is one of the most immediate impacts of President Donald Trump’s bigoted executive order enshrining as a matter of federal policy that there are only “two sexes, male and female,” and that sex is an “immutable biological reality.”
The executive order, signed Monday, directed the State Department and other agencies to require that passports, visas, and government documents “reflect the holder’s sex” assigned at birth.
“The Department will no longer issue U.S. passports … containing an X sex marker and will suspend applications seeking to change an individual’s sex marker.”
Starting in 2021, the State Department began allowing individuals to select a marker on their passport that accurately reflected their gender identity without requiring medical certification. In 2022, the State Department introduced an “X” marker for nonbinary, intersex, and gender-nonconforming people.
Rubio’s order eliminates these options.
“The Department will no longer issue U.S. passports … containing an X sex marker and will suspend applications seeking to change an individual’s sex marker,” reads the order, which was sent to all diplomatic and consular posts around the world. The order directs State Department employees to suspend “all applications currently in process and any future applications,” pending further guidance.
There will be no allowances for individuals who have had gender affirming surgery, seemingly, since “the policy of the United States is that an individual’s sex is not changeable,” per Rubio’s order.
The White House previously told Washington publication NOTUS that trans and nonbinary people would be able to keep their current passports, but that when passports are renewed they would have to match the holder’s sex as assigned at birth, which must be either male or female.
Rubio’s order suggested, however, that the State Department is still considering options about current passports.
“Guidance on existing passports containing an X sex marker will come via other channels,” reads Rubio’s order.
LGBTQ+ rights organizations have vowed to challenge the executive order in court.
“We’ve been here before,” said Carl Charles, a senior attorney at Lambda Legal, which successfully sued the first Trump administration over its refusal to issue an accurate passport to one of Lambda’s intersex clients. “This policy will certainly be challenged.”
The State Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Okay, really it’s the Garden State Parkway service area named for James Gandolfini, the iconic actor who played mob boss Tony Soprano, that was expected to reopen around July 4 of last year.
Relax. His namesake Bergen County service area in Montvale isn’t sleeping with the fishes.
But it’s expected reopening this month ends a 7-year, $250 million project that rebuilt or renovated all the service areas on the state’s two largest toll highways.
“The main service area building should open by the end of the month,” said Tom Feeney, a New Jersey Turnpike Authority spokesperson.
The Gandolfini service remained closed because of soil contamination discovered during construction, which halted that work while the pollution was remediated, Feeney said.
“Construction resumed months ago when the clean-up was finished and is now nearly complete,” he said.
The Sunoco gas station at the service area should open around the same time, he said.
The main building and service station and commuter bus park and ride lot closed for renovations on Dec. 4, 2023.
When it reopens, the service area will have Dunkin’, Burger King, Auntie Anne’s, Nathan’s and an Applegreen market located there, he said.
It was part of a larger $250 million project, announced in 2017 by former Gov. Chris Christie and funded by the company that operates the service areas, which received a 25-year contract to run them.
Since then, eight new service area buildings were constructed and six newer structures were refurbished at the company’s expense, sparing toll payers the cost to make needed improvements. Sunoco funded gas station improvements.
The Gandolfini and Jon Bon Jovi service areas on the Parkway, and the Clara Barton and John Fenwick Service Areas on the Turnpike were the last four to be completed.
Both the Gandolfini and Bon Jovi service centers were renovated because they are in newer buildings. The John Fenwick and the Clara Barton, both located in in Oldhams Township in Salem County, were demolished and replaced with new buildings.
The $250 million project replaced or rebuilt all the service areas on both toll roads except for the Frank Sinatra and Bruce Willis service areas, which had already been renovated, Feeney said.
The two Colonia North and South service areas on the Parkway in Woodbridge are the exceptions, because they are privately owned and run. However, new convenience stores and gas stations have been constructed there by the private owners.
Gandolfini, whose most iconic role was in the hit TV show “The Sopranos,” was born in New Jersey in 1961. He died in 2013, after suffering a heart attack.
