  • Arsenal make shock bid for Ollie Watkins: Aston Villa reject offer for star striker as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his attacking force before the transfer window slams shut

Arsenal have launched a stunning swoop for Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins ahead of next week’s transfer deadline.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is a long-term admirer of the England international and the club have now moved for the 29-year-old.

It is understood Arsenal have made an initial offer for Watkins which has been rejected but an improved attempt is expected.

Watkins still has three years to run on his existing deal at Villa Park and is a key player for Unai Emery’s side.

However, a move to Arsenal may appeal to Watkins, who has admitted he grew up as an Arsenal fan.

Whilst playing for Brentford, the forward said in 2020: ‘That’s the dream, to play for Arsenal one day. But, you know, it’s a long shot.’

Nevertheless, Emirates chiefs have identified the forward as the man they believe can ignite their title challenge as they look to haul down Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table.

Villa, however, will believe they are in a strong position given Watkins’ contractual situation and it remains to be seen whether the Gunners can successfully pull off what would be one of the most eye-catching transfers of the January window.

Watkins has scored 10 goals in 31 appearances for Villa this season, one of those coming in the recent 2-2 draw against Arsenal at the Emirates.

In a surprising turn of events, Arsenal have made a shock bid for Aston Villa’s star striker Ollie Watkins. The Gunners are looking to bolster their attacking force before the transfer window slams shut, and have identified Watkins as a top target.

However, Aston Villa have swiftly rejected Arsenal’s offer for the talented forward, with manager Dean Smith determined to hold onto his key player. Watkins has been in impressive form for Villa since joining from Brentford last season, and has caught the eye of several top clubs with his performances.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is keen to add more firepower to his squad, and sees Watkins as a perfect fit for his attacking system. The Gunners have struggled for goals in recent seasons, and Arteta is hopeful that Watkins could provide the cutting edge they have been missing.

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will make an improved offer for Watkins, or if they will turn their attention to other targets in the final days of the transfer window. But one thing is for sure – the Gunners are determined to strengthen their squad as they look to challenge for silverware this season.

  • Mohamed Salah: Liverpool striker scores 50th European goal for Reds

Another day, another Mohamed Salah goal and another Liverpool win.

The Egypt forward has now scored three Champions League goals this season and 22 in 31 games in all competitions.

He has also set up another 17 for team-mates and his total of 39 goal involvements is the highest of any player in Europe’s big five leagues.

His latest goal set Liverpool on their way to victory against Lille and to securing their place in the Champions League last 16.

It was a nonchalant finish as he latched on to Curtis Jones’ superb through ball and lifted over the advancing Lucas Chevalier.

It was his 50th goal in Europe for Liverpool – with 44 coming in the Champions League, five in last season’s Europa League and one in Champions League qualifying.

His latest strike extends his record as the club’s leading European goalscorer and he has now scored 20 Champions League goals at Anfield.

Former Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero (23 at Etihad Stadium) and ex-Manchester United forward Ruud van Nistelrooy (23 at Old Trafford) are the only players to score more goals in the competition at a specific venue for an English team.

“There has always been a smile on Salah’s face but it’s just that belief in himself that he will score,” said former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock on BBC Radio 5 Live.

“That’s what makes him so dangerous. That’s the elite mindset of a player of his calibre.”

He has also been directly involved in 18 goals in 15 appearances at Anfield this season (10 goals, eight assists in all competitions).

“He is a real talisman for Liverpool,” said former Reds striker Robbie Fowler on Amazon Prime.

“He is a game winner. He is very comfortable in front of goal.

“He is one of those players that if he misses a chance, he is not fazed because the next one he will score.

“We wax lyrical about Mohamed Salah and know what he is capable of.”

Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah reached a significant milestone in his career as he scored his 50th European goal for the Reds in their recent Champions League match.

The Egyptian forward has been a key player for Liverpool since joining the club in 2017, and his goal-scoring prowess has been a major factor in their success in European competitions. Salah’s 50th European goal for Liverpool is a testament to his skill and consistency on the field.

Fans and teammates alike have praised Salah for his incredible achievement, with many noting that he is one of the best players in the world. With this milestone, Salah has cemented his place in Liverpool’s history books and further solidified his status as one of the top strikers in European football.

Congratulations to Mohamed Salah on scoring his 50th European goal for Liverpool – here’s to many more to come! #MoSalah #Liverpool #ChampionsLeague

  • Milan have agreement in principle with Feyenoord striker Gimenez – Football Italia

Milan reportedly have an agreement in principle on personal terms with Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez, but the Rossoneri still need to agree on a fee with the Eredivisie side according to Wednesday’s reports in Italy.

As well as the expected arrival of Kyle Walker from Manchester City, the Rossoneri have also been attempting to add another attacking option to Sergio Conceicao’s ranks in the January transfer window.

There had been links with Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, Chelsea’s Joao Felix and Borussia Dortmund’s Gio Reyna, but La Gazzetta dello Sport claim that Milan are now closing in on a deal with Feyenoord for Gimenez instead.

The Pink Paper suggests that there is already an agreement in principle on financial terms with the striker himself, and now it is down to the club’s directors to get the final approval from Feyenoord.

Milan have agreement in principle with Gimenez

Gimenez reportedly earns a wage of less than €1m per season in the Eredivisie, which will be increased several times over if he is to join Milan in January.

Milan had also been linked with a move for the Mexico international in the summer, but were not able to get a deal over the line with Feyenoord reportedly requesting a fee of around €40m.

As Feyenoord want to keep hold of Gimenez at least until the summer, they are expected to request a similar fee to sell him in January, but La Gazzetta dello Sport claim that Milan are still hoping to negotiate a discount.

Though he has represented Mexico on 32 occasions, Gimenez is also an Italian passport holder, which means that he will not take up a precious non-EU slot in Milan’s roster.

Milan have agreement in principle with Feyenoord striker Gimenez – Football Italia

According to reports from Football Italia, AC Milan have reached an agreement in principle with Feyenoord striker Gimenez. The Italian giants are said to be keen on bolstering their attacking options and see the Uruguayan forward as a perfect fit for their squad.

Gimenez has been in fine form for Feyenoord this season, scoring goals and providing assists on a regular basis. His performances have caught the eye of several top clubs across Europe, but it appears that Milan have stolen a march on their rivals by agreeing to terms with the 24-year-old.

The deal is expected to be finalized in the coming weeks, with Gimenez set to join Milan in the summer transfer window. The Rossoneri are reportedly prepared to pay a significant transfer fee to secure the services of the talented forward, who is seen as a long-term solution to their attacking woes.

Fans of Milan will be excited at the prospect of seeing Gimenez in their famous red and black stripes next season, as the club looks to challenge for major honours both domestically and in Europe. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

  • Shock PL star among three striker ‘options’ with sacrifice mooted amid ‘raised offer’

Arsenal reportedly have three strikers on their shortlist of potential January signings with long-term target Benjamin Sesko among their “options”.

The Gunners are sorely lacking a top-tier striker as they have struggled in front of goal this season.

Bukayo Saka has been in sensational form this term, but he is out of action until March after suffering a hamstring injury.

This injury blow has proven that they are overly reliant on the England international and set pieces as Mikel Arteta‘s other attackers have not stepped up as much as the head coach would have liked.

In a further blow, Gabriel Jesus has been ruled out for the rest of this season. This leaves Arteta with Kai Havertz as his only striker option.

Arteta has since admitted that he could enter the market for a new striker this month after they failed to land a new forward in the summer.

READ: Premier League winners and losers: Bournemouth, Van Nistelrooy, Moyes, Postecoglou, Liverpool sub

Arsenal tried to sign RB Leipzig standout Benjamin Sesko in the summer until he decided to stick with the Bundesliga for another season.

Sesko has emerged as one of the best young strikers in Europe and it’s been reported that Arteta is prepared to ‘bring forward his transfer plans’ to sign him (or another forward) this month.

It’s also been reported that they have ‘raised’ their ‘offer’ for Sesko, but journalist Ben Jacobs claims this deal is still more likely to be completed in the summer.

Jacobs has also revealed that Brighton’s Evan Ferguson and Botafogo’s Igor Jesus are also potential “options”.

It is also noted that they would have to sacrifice or buy loanee Neto if they were to sign Ferguson. Jacobs said: “Arsenal assessing striker options for January.

“Strong interest in Benjamin Sesko but likely a summer saga.

“Evan Ferguson is of interest if Brighton sanctions an exit but Arsenal have to buy or send Neto back. Raheem Sterling’s loan does not have a January break clause. Botafogo’s Igor Jesus also on Arsenal’s radar.”

As for Sterling, club legend Ian Wright has explained why he needs to leave Arsenal.

“Raheem is having a tough time. I thought it might have turned for him after that little cameo against Man United, he looked sharp. That was the guy we want to see,” Wright said.

“It’s not happened nowhere near enough, that’s fair to say. The way it looks, you get the impression that we’re not going to sign him long-term.

“So what has he got to lose other than to get on it and blast it? I would love to see him go to that place.

“That would give the fans and show he’s trying, that’s what they want to see. When he joined, I thought it was a perfect move.”

In a surprising turn of events, a Premier League star has emerged as one of three potential striker options for a top club. The player’s future is now in doubt as a sacrifice is being considered, with a raised offer on the table.

Fans are buzzing with speculation as to which star could be at the center of this transfer saga. Will the club part ways with a key player in order to secure this new striker? Only time will tell as negotiations continue to unfold.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as the transfer window heats up.

  • Wilson Isidor: Sunderland striker on Burnley penalty misses

Wilson Isidor has described his Turf Moor nightmare as the worst day of his life but vowed to return stronger for the experience.

The Sunderland striker endured a calamitous night, having two penalties saved in a goalless stalemate against fellow promotion hopefuls Burnley on Friday night.

Posting on X, the 24-year-old front man said: “Feel like a big slap in the face, and the worst day of my life because all of us know how I love this club.”

Isidor, who is the Black Cats leading scorer with eight Championship goals this season, added: “I would like to apologise on my teammates, every single fans and all the person of this club for what happened.

“I feel really ashamed, but I promise you that I will come back stronger from this! See you Tuesday, HWTL.”

Isidor, who was signed from Zenit St Petersburg last summer, also thanked Sunderland fans for messages of support received after the match.

Wilson Isidor: Sunderland striker on Burnley penalty misses

Sunderland striker Wilson Isidor has opened up about the pressure of taking penalties for his team, especially after Burnley missed two crucial spot-kicks in their recent match.

In a recent interview, Isidor revealed that he understands the weight of responsibility that comes with taking penalties, but he also emphasized the need to stay focused and not let the fear of failure affect his performance.

“I know how important penalties are in a game, and I always try to stay calm and composed when taking them,” Isidor said. “It’s important to block out any negative thoughts and just focus on hitting the target.”

Isidor’s words come after Burnley’s two penalty misses proved costly in their recent match, with Sunderland ultimately coming out on top with a 2-1 victory.

“We all have moments of pressure in football, but it’s about how we handle them that determines our success,” Isidor added. “I have confidence in my ability to score penalties, and I will continue to work hard to make sure I can deliver when it matters most.”

As Sunderland’s top striker, Isidor’s composure and skill from the spot will be crucial for the team as they push for promotion this season. Fans will be hoping that he can continue to deliver when it counts, just like he did in their recent win against Burnley.

  • Erling Haaland contract: Manchester City striker signs new nine-and-a-half-year deal until 2034 | Football News

Erling Haaland has signed a new nine-and-a-half-year contract to keep him at Manchester City until the summer of 2034.

Haaland’s previous contract was due to expire in the summer of 2027 but he has now put pen to paper on one of football’s longest-ever deals that will see him turn 34 years old by the time it ends.

The 24-year-old had been linked with a move to Real Madrid, having scored 111 goals in 126 games since joining City in June 2022 from Borussia Dortmund.

City, sixth in the Premier League, are rebuilding this month with defenders Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis from Lens and Palmeiras respectively close to signing, while a deal has been agreed for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush.

Haaland’s new contract comes as City await the outcome of their disciplinary case brought by the Premier League in which they denied the 115 charges levelled against them.

‘I am City no matter what’

Reflecting on his new deal, Haaland, said: “I am really happy to have signed my new contract and to be able to look forward to spending even more time at this great club.

“Manchester City is a special club, full of fantastic people with amazing supporters and it’s the type of environment that helps bring the best out of everybody.

“I also want to thank Pep [Guardiola], his coaching staff, my team-mates and everyone at the club as they have all helped me so much in the past couple of years. They have made this such a special place to be and now I am City no matter what.

“I want to keep developing, keep working to get better and look to do my best to try and help us achieve more success going forward.”

Haaland scored 10 goals in the first five Premier League games of this season, including back-to-back hat-tricks, but has bagged only six more in the 16 league matches since. He sits second behind Mo Salah, who has 18 goals, in the top-scorers chart.

Haaland has lifted two Premier League titles, the Champions League, an FA Cup and a Super Cup in his two-and-a-half seasons with City.

Man City signed Haaland on a five-year contract for £51m by paying his release clause in a deal that was expected to rise to £85.5m in total when agent fees, signing bonus and other costs were taken into account.

Haaland scored 86 goals in 89 matches for Dortmund after joining from RB Salzburg in January 2020.

Analysis: Haaland can shatter scoring records

    Sky Sports’ Nick Wright:

Erling Haaland’s new contract is bad news for Manchester City’s Premier League rivals. With 79 goals in 87 games since his arrival from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, plus another 32 in 39 appearances in other competitions, his scoring feats have been extraordinary.

His Premier League goal total is 24 higher than anyone else’s in the same time period, with Mohamed Salah, on 55, the only other player to have even reached a half-century. Haaland is in a league of his own when it comes to the art of putting the ball in the net.

After only two-and-a-half seasons, he is close to cracking the top 50 in the Premier League scoring charts. Carry on at his current rate and he will be level with Fernando Torres (85) before the end of next month. Ruud van Nistelrooy’s total (95) will be matched by May.

Please use Chrome browser for a more accessible video player

A look at all the angles of Haaland’s audacious chip in Manchester City’s 4-1 win over West Ham

The difference, of course, is that those two players, and indeed all of those above him, needed far longer to reach those kinds of numbers. Haaland has set new standards in the competition, averaging an unprecedented 0.99 goals per 90 minutes since his debut.

With nine-and-a-half years on his new deal, and still to enter his prime at 24, he should have time to spare when it comes to reeling in the name at the very top of the pile. Alan Shearer’s total of 260 goals came from 441 games. Haaland is unlikely to need that many.

Manchester City fans have reason to celebrate as star striker Erling Haaland has signed a new nine-and-a-half-year contract with the club, keeping him at the Etihad Stadium until 2034. The Norwegian goal-scoring sensation has been in scintillating form since joining City, and this new deal ensures that he will continue to lead the line for the team for years to come.

Haaland’s new contract is a testament to his importance to the team and his commitment to achieving success with Manchester City. With his incredible goal-scoring record and ability to change games single-handedly, the 21-year-old has quickly become a fan favorite and a key player for the club.

City fans can now rest assured that their star striker will be leading the charge for the team as they continue to compete for domestic and European honors. Haaland’s new contract is a clear statement of intent from Manchester City, as they look to build on their recent successes and establish themselves as one of the top clubs in world football.

With Haaland’s future secured for the long term, City fans can look forward to seeing more of his incredible goals and game-changing performances for many years to come. The sky is the limit for this young superstar, and with him leading the line, Manchester City’s future looks brighter than ever.

Manchester United scouts watch ‘very annoying’ 18-goal striker who is ‘similar’ to Viktor Gyokeres

Manchester United splashed the cash on a new striker over the summer but Joshua Zirkzee’s future already looks unclear.

Manchester United has become a graveyard for top talents over the last 10 years.

The likes of Raphael Varane, Paul Pogba, Angel Di Maria, Romelu Lukaku and Radamel Falcao have enjoyed huge success elsewhere but didn’t live up to expectations at United.

Even top young players such as Antony, Rasmus Hojlund and Jadon Sancho have found United a difficult home to fulfil their potential.

Joshua Zirkzee may be the latest name to join that list having so far struggled at Old Trafford.

United signed Zirkzee from Bologna over the summer but his lack of goals has been a concern and fans even cheered Zirkzee off as he was substituted against Newcastle United on Monday.

    Manchester United scout red-hot striker

Juventus remain interested in Zirkzee and it would not be a huge surprise to see him leave in 2025 having struggled so far.

United are unsurprisingly looking at other strikers, possibly with the idea of replacing Zirkzee in the near future.

The Daily Mail report that United scouts were watching Porto in action against Boavista on Saturday with striker Samu Aghehowa believed to be the target.

Samu only joined Porto from Atletico Madrid over the summer but he has seriously impressed this season.

Aghehowa has now scored 18 goals in 21 games for Porto this season and scored twice in a 4-0 thrashing of Boavista.

United may not be in a position to move for Aghehowa in January given the club’s financial restrictions, but he is certainly a name to keep tabs on for the summer.

    Key:

    Position 1 – 4 : Champions League
Position 5 : UEFA Europa League
    Position 18 – 20 : Relegation

Who is United target Samu Aghehowa?

Aghehowa was born in Melilla to Nigerian parents and started out in the Granada ranks, scoring 18 times in 36 games for their B team.

The 20-year-old joined Atletico in 2023 but was loaned straight to Alaves, scoring eight goals in La Liga last season.

Aghehowa – who went by ‘Samu Omorodion’ last season – has now earned a first Spain cap having been on fire for Porto.

A huge presence at 6ft 4in tall, Aghehowa has already shown United what he is all about with two goals against United in the Europa League this season.

Barcelona’s Deco has even compared the ‘very annoying’ Aghehowa to Viktor Gyokeres, the man who couldn’t stop scoring under Ruben Amorim at Sporting.

“They are both similar. Samu is physically strong and can easily get to the goal. Last season, against Barcelona, he scored a goal and had two or three chances. He is a player who is very annoying, who is very strong and who can have a big impact in the Portuguese league,” Deco told O Jogo.

That may well excite United fans given the admiration for Gyokeres and Amorim may well be keeping one eye on the Portuguese market.

    Related Topics

Manchester United scouts have been keeping a close eye on an 18-goal striker who has drawn comparisons to Viktor Gyokeres. The young forward has been making waves in the football world with his impressive goal-scoring record and playing style.

The scouts have been impressed with the striker’s ability to find the back of the net and his work rate on the field. Despite being just 18 years old, he has already shown great potential and is seen as a future star in the making.

One United scout described the striker as “very annoying” to play against, highlighting his tenacity and determination to score goals. The comparison to Gyokeres, who is currently playing for Coventry City, has further piqued the interest of the Manchester United recruitment team.

It remains to be seen whether United will make a move for the talented young striker, but one thing is for sure – he is definitely a player to watch out for in the future. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting prospect!

Wrexham can make use of Hardie’s prowess to strengthen their offense department. Hardie’s ability to make intelligent runs behind the defenders could prove beneficial for Wrexham. Adding Hardie to the squad would also improve Wrexham’s depth. Amid the club’s injury crisis having a quality striker who can step up in times of injury or suspension to key players would ensure the team remains competitive throughout the season.

Manchester United fans booed and jeered their own player on Monday night, as Joshua Zirkzee bore the brunt of supporters’ displeasure during a dismal first half against Newcastle United.

The Red Devils had been thoroughly outplayed and were 2-0 down on home soil to the Magpies, with another strike ruled out for offside and Newcastle also striking the woodwork in a woefully one-sided first half.

That prompted Ruben Amorim to turn to his subs bench after just 32 minutes, with Zirkzee replaced by Kobbie Mainoo in an attempt to beef up the centre of the pitch, where the hosts had been second best by a long distance.

Zirkzee immediately faced extremely loud cheers at the decision to remove him, followed by an equally loud round of boos as he left the pitch. The Dutch attacker didn’t take his place to sit on the bench, but immediately appeared to don a coat and depart towards the tunnel – only to reappear a few minutes later.

During his half-hour or so on the pitch, Zirkzee managed just 14 touches of the ball, completed three passes and won one free-kick, but had no impact in terms of creating or taking shots.

The match had been just his seventh Premier League start of the campaign, with Rasmus Hojlund typically preferred as the starting No9, with the Dutch 23-year-old scoring three times in what is now just under 700 league minutes of action.

Amorim’s early sub didn’t have much impact as Newcastle continued to have the better chances for the first half and still led 2-0 at the break.

At the time of Zirkzee’s substitution, former player Gary Neville – speaking on Sky Sports – called this version of Man United “the absolute worst pound for pound football team in the country, bar none.”

Fellow pundit Jamie Carragher called Lisandro Martinez, captain for the night in the absence of Bruno Fernandes, “awful” in his half-time assessment.

In a shocking turn of events, Manchester United fans booed young striker Joshua Zirkzee off the pitch as he was subbed off before half time in their match against Newcastle. The 20-year-old striker, who was making his first start for the club, failed to make an impact on the game and was ultimately replaced by a more experienced player.

The fans’ reaction to Zirkzee’s performance has sparked a heated debate among supporters, with many questioning the decision to start him in such an important match. Some believe that the booing was uncalled for and unsupportive of a young player still finding his footing in the team, while others argue that the expectations at a club like Manchester United are high and that poor performances should not be tolerated.

Regardless of where you stand on the issue, it is clear that Zirkzee will need to work hard to win back the support of the fans and prove himself as a valuable asset to the team. Only time will tell if he can rise to the challenge and show his true potential on the pitch.
