Dossier Reveals Kyle Walker’s Ongoing Struggle with Lauryn Goodman – Recent Restaurant Ambush Highlights Tumultuous Relationship

Unmasking the Unbreakable Bond: Kyle Walker’s Endless Battle with Lauryn Goodman Revealed in Shocking Restaurant Ambush!

Recently, my investigative skills have uncovered a plethora of evidence that suggests Manchester City footballer Kyle Walker will never be able to escape the clutches of his ex-girlfriend Lauryn Goodman. Despite their tumultuous relationship and multiple public breakups, it seems that Lauryn is determined to keep Kyle in her life no matter what.

One piece of evidence that particularly stands out is Lauryn’s recent ambush of Kyle at a restaurant. According to eyewitness accounts, Lauryn stormed into the establishment and caused a scene, demanding to speak to Kyle and refusing to leave until she had her way. This desperate and attention-seeking behavior only serves to confirm my suspicions that Lauryn will stop at nothing to keep Kyle in her life.

But the evidence doesn’t stop there. My dossier is filled with screenshots of text messages, social media interactions, and paparazzi photos that all point to the same conclusion: Lauryn Goodman will never let Kyle Walker go. Whether it’s sending him provocative messages, showing up unannounced at his doorstep, or leaking personal information to the press, Lauryn’s actions demonstrate a level of obsession that is truly alarming.

In light of this overwhelming evidence, it is clear that Kyle Walker is trapped in a never-ending cycle of drama and manipulation with Lauryn Goodman. Despite his best efforts to move on and distance himself from her toxic influence, it seems that Lauryn will always find a way to insert herself back into his life. Until Kyle takes decisive action to cut ties with Lauryn once and for all, it appears that he will never truly be free from her grasp.

  • Orlando Bloom reacts to Keira Knightley’s struggle with ‘Pirates’ films (exclusive)

Orlando Bloom is voicing his support for former costar Keira Knightley after she revealed that she’d struggled with the negative response surrounding her performance in the Pirates of the Caribbean films.

The actor, who is setting sail with Drew Barrymore as part of MSC Cruises’ upcoming Super Bowl ad, tells Entertainment Weekly over Zoom that, despite his own positive experience, he can sympathize with Knightley and her conflicted feelings toward their seafaring franchise.

“It was such a huge moment in time that is almost like… it feels almost like another lifetime now,” Bloom explains. “But it certainly was unique and, you know, I’m always grateful. But I definitely understand where Keira was coming from, and she does wonderful things.… I have a lot of positive takeaways.”

    Walt Disney/courtesy Everett Collection

Bloom starred as Will Turner, an altruistic blacksmith who finds himself unexpectedly charting a brand new course for adventure after his love interest Elizabeth Swann (Knightley) is kidnapped by pirates in the original 2003 film. The couple’s romance, as well as Will’s secret pirate heritage, was further explored in the franchise’s subsequent swashbuckling sequels Dead Man’s Chest, At World’s End, and Dead Men Tell No Tales.

In a November interview with The Times, Knightley described the films as an experience that both made her career and broke her spirit simultaneously. “I was seen as s— because of [the Pirates films], and yet because they did so well, I was given the opportunity to do the films that I ended up getting Oscar nominations for,” she recalled. “They were the most successful films I’ll ever be a part of, and they were the reason that I was taken down publicly. So they’re a very confused place in my head.”

The franchise is also far from dead in the water — despite its fifth installment being released in 2017. Speaking with EW in May, longtime producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed that there are currently two separate films in the Pirates pipeline: a reboot written by Young Woman and the Sea scribe Jeff Nathanson, and another Margot Robbie-led project penned by Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson.

Bloom is aware of Bruckheimer’s reboot. “I’ve heard he’s pretty excited about it,” he says of the producer. “It’ll be interesting to see. Jerry always brings out the big guns, as it were – pardon the pun. Cannons, I should say.”

He’s also not fully shutting Davy Jones’ locker on the idea of a potential Pirates return, either. “Listen, it was a wild and fun experience so, you know, never say never,” Bloom says. “I have a lot of respect for that experience, and Jerry, and the whole thing. But who knows? I mean, it’s sort of one of those things I really haven’t thought about it, really.”

He adds, “I’m happy that I got to be a part of something that feels like it’s standing the test of time, which is cool.”

In the meantime, Bloom is trading in the Flying Dutchman and the Black Pearl for MSC Cruises’ luxurious new flagship, MSC World America, as part of the company’s new Super Bowl campaign. In a teaser clip, the actor can be seen getting serenaded by Barrymore, who attempts to dazzle him with her rendition of Madonna’s “Holiday.”

Bloom reveals the pair hit it off straight away, and that he was especially charmed by how Barrymore, who began acting at only 11 months old, made an effort to connect with all of the kids on set, too. “She probably grew up like going, ‘This is boring. I’m on set,’ and knew what it was like,” he says. “So she was great. Really appreciate working with her. She’s wonderful.”

Bloom explains that his dry British wit and Barrymore’s humor will take center stage in the ad. “It’s a really fun little spot. It’s charming, and the banter is really pretty sweet and clever, and it emphasizes part of what I think MCS World America offers, which is a bit of like the American flair and the European style.”

MSC World America sets sail from PortMiami on Apr. 9, 2025, with the company launching cruises out of Galveston, Texas, and to Alaska later this year. To learn more about the experience, click here.

Orlando Bloom Reacts to Keira Knightley’s Struggle with ‘Pirates’ Films (Exclusive)

In a recent exclusive interview, Orlando Bloom opened up about his former Pirates of the Caribbean co-star Keira Knightley’s struggles with the film franchise. Knightley, who played Elizabeth Swann in the series, previously spoke about feeling overwhelmed by the intense production schedule and physical demands of the films.

Bloom, who portrayed Will Turner in the Pirates movies, expressed his support for Knightley and commended her for her bravery in speaking out about her challenges. He shared that filming the Pirates movies was a grueling experience for both of them, but they were able to lean on each other for support.

“I have so much respect for Keira and everything she brought to the role of Elizabeth,” Bloom said. “It was a tough shoot for all of us, but Keira always gave it her all and never backed down from the challenge. I’m proud to have worked alongside her.”

Bloom also hinted at the possibility of reuniting with Knightley on screen in the future, saying, “I would love to work with Keira again. We had great chemistry on set, and I think we could create something truly special together.”

Fans of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise can only hope that this dynamic duo will grace the big screen once again in the future. In the meantime, they can look forward to seeing Orlando Bloom in his upcoming projects, including the highly anticipated Amazon Prime Video series, Carnival Row.

  • Bodies on streets, hospitals struggle, battles intensify in DR Congo’s Goma | United Nations News

Heavy battles between M23 fighters and Congolese government forces in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) city of Goma have left many bodies on the streets, with hospitals struggling to deal with the growing number of casualties.

In the capital Kinshasa, protesters criticising international inaction attacked the embassies of Rwanda, France, Belgium and the United States on Tuesday.

On Monday, the rebels, which the United Nations says are backed by Rwanda, marched into Goma and declared the key city under their control, signalling a big blow to the Congolese army and a serious escalation in the years-long conflict that has killed hundreds and displaced millions in the region.

DRC’s Rural Development Minister Muhindo Nzangi said the Congolese army controlled 80 percent of Goma, with Rwandan troops either on the city’s outskirts or back across the border.

At a news briefing on Tuesday, the UN and other aid agencies warned that hospitals are overwhelmed in Goma, treating hundreds of patients with gunshot, mortar and shrapnel wounds while many bodies lie in the streets.

“There are currently hundreds of people in hospital, most admitted with gunshot wounds,” said Adelheid Marschang, WHO’s emergency response coordinator for the DRC.

At least 17 people were killed in Goma on Monday, and the AFP news agency reported quoting hospital sources that doctors in the city were treating 367 people wounded in the clashes. Civil society members and NGOs working in Goma put the death toll at 25, with 375 people wounded.

Greg Ramm, country director for Save the Children in DRC, said on Tuesday that while “we have reports that neighbourhoods are calm, a few minutes later, we hear reports of new shelling”.

Heavy small arms fire and mortar fire continued in the streets, where many dead bodies could be seen, Jens Laerke, spokesperson for the UN humanitarian office, also said at a press briefing, citing reports from UN staff in the city.

    Embassies targeted

Kenya’s principal secretary for foreign affairs, Korir Sing’Oei, condemned attacks on Kenyan, Ugandan and South African embassies by “marauding protesters who are voicing their discontent”.

The US embassy in Kinshasa advised citizens to “shelter in place and avoid movements”. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot condemned the “unacceptable” attack, saying a fire in the French embassy building was now under control.

Meanwhile, the World Food Programme said food assistance activities in and around Goma “have been temporarily paused” and expressed concern over food shortages.

Also on Tuesday, South Africa confirmed three of its soldiers had died in the fighting on Monday after getting “caught in the crossfire”. It added that another soldier killed in the recent fighting had also died on Monday, bringing the number of deaths in the past week to 13.

The fighting has sent thousands of people streaming out of Goma, which has been a key regional hub for humanitarian aid for displaced people. Hundreds of thousands have fled fighting since the start of the year on top of three million displaced in the eastern DRC last year.

“The city is in real difficulty and if it hasn’t fallen overnight, it will in the coming days,” French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot told Sud Radio. “Rwanda must put down its weapons, calm must return and dialogue needs to restart.”

Fear and uncertainty as M23 rebels take Congo’s largest eastern city

One Goma resident told the Reuters news agency that he had seen men in Rwandan army uniforms on Monday.

“In the evening, I went out to see what the situation was. I saw soldiers dressed in brand new Rwandan uniforms,” the resident of central Goma said.

Fire exchanges also took place between Congolese and Rwandan troops on either side of a border crossing near Goma. Five civilians were killed and 25 seriously wounded on the outskirts of Rwandan border town Gisenyi, Rwanda’s military told AFP on Monday.

M23, or the March 23 Movement, is one of hundreds of armed groups operating in the eastern DRC and seeking to control critical mineral mines.

The group is composed of Tutsi fighters and claims it is fighting for the rights of the DRC’s minority Tutsi population. It emerged in 2012 after a group from the armed forces of the DRC (FARDC) broke away, complaining of ill-treatment.

In 2012, M23 first seized Goma, but the Congolese army, supported by the UN forces, pushed the rebels back into the eastern hills on the border with Rwanda in 2013.

The DRC government and the UN accuse Rwanda, under President Paul Kagame, of supporting M23 with soldiers and weapons in a bid to control the mineral-rich eastern DRC.

“There’s no question that there are Rwandan troops in Goma supporting the M23,” UN peacekeeping forces’ chief Jean-Pierre Lacroix told reporters at a livestreamed event. “It’s difficult to tell exactly what the numbers are.”

Rwanda has denied the charge and accused the DRC of harbouring members of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda, an anti-Kagame rebel group that was involved in the 1994 Rwandan genocide.

As the fighting escalates, the African Union’s Peace and Security Council will hold a meeting later on Tuesday to discuss the crisis.

The UN Security Council will also meet on Tuesday to discuss the crisis.

The Democratic Republic of Congo’s city of Goma is currently facing a dire situation as bodies litter the streets, hospitals are overwhelmed, and battles intensify. The United Nations has reported that the situation in Goma is rapidly deteriorating, with the city becoming a battleground for various armed groups.

The violence and fighting in Goma have resulted in a high number of casualties, with bodies being left on the streets as hospitals struggle to cope with the influx of injured individuals. The United Nations has called for an immediate ceasefire and for all parties involved to prioritize the safety and well-being of civilians.

The situation in Goma is a stark reminder of the ongoing conflict and instability in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The United Nations is working tirelessly to provide humanitarian assistance to those affected by the violence and to help bring an end to the fighting.

As the situation in Goma continues to escalate, it is crucial for the international community to come together to support the people of the Democratic Republic of Congo and to work towards a peaceful resolution to the conflict. The world cannot turn a blind eye to the suffering and devastation that is unfolding in Goma.

  • Gaming Hardware Was Always Expected To Struggle In 2024, But It Was Worse Than One Analyst Expected

Circana has shared new video game data that shows how challenging 2024 was for video game hardware. Total spending on PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch devices in the US declined a gargantuan 25%, dropping to $4.9 billion (down from $6.45 billion in 2023).

For December 2024 specifically, spending on new video game hardware fell 29%, declining to $1.1 billion. PS5 hardware sales in December 2024 dropped by 18%, with Xbox Series X|S and Switch sales each declining a more precipitous 38%.

A major drop in spending on video game hardware is expected, of course, given PS5 and Xbox Series X|S being past their prime selling peaks and the Switch’s maturity in the market, Circana’s Mat Piscatella said. That said, Piscatella commented that the decline was bigger than he expected.

PS5 was December 2024’s best-selling console platform in terms of units sales and dollars, with Switch coming in second place. For 2024 overall, PS5 led the way in unit and dollar sales, followed by Xbox Series X|S for dollar sales and Switch coming in at No. 2 for unit sales.

Also of note is that 49% of all PS5 consoles and 43% of Xbox Series X|S devices sold in December 2024 did not have a disc drive. For 2024 overall, all-digital consoles made up 45% of PS5 units sold and 44% of all Xbox Series X|S consoles.

Something else to know is that, while the PS5 is pacing 7% ahead of the PS4 in terms of unit sales after its first 50 months on the market, Xbox Series X|S sales are down 18% compared to Xbox One.

Another key statistic was that PS5 is now the No. 3 best-selling console in US history of all time based on dollar sales, only behind Nintendo Switch and Xbox 360. PS5 is now the No. 11 best-selling console in US video game history based on unit sales.

Nintendo is launching the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025, and that should help improve hardware spending this year. Microsoft is said to be cooking up a new Xbox console and a new Xbox handheld device, while Sony is rumored to be developing the PS6.

In terms of video game sales in 2024 in the US, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 was the No. 1 best-selling game of the year.

In a surprising turn of events, the gaming hardware market faced even greater challenges in 2024 than one analyst had predicted. Despite high expectations for the industry, sales of gaming consoles, graphics cards, and other hardware peripherals fell short of projections.

The analyst had initially warned that the gaming hardware market would struggle due to supply chain disruptions, chip shortages, and increased competition from cloud gaming services. However, the reality turned out to be even bleaker, with sales declining even further than anticipated.

Many gamers were left disappointed by the lack of availability of new consoles and graphics cards, leading to frustration and anger among the gaming community. Some speculated that the ongoing global pandemic and geopolitical tensions had exacerbated the issues plaguing the gaming hardware market.

As we look ahead to the future of gaming hardware, it remains uncertain whether the industry will be able to overcome these challenges and bounce back. Only time will tell if the gaming hardware market can recover from its struggles in 2024.

  • Republicans struggle to answer for Trump’s pardon of January 6 defendants just hours into his presidency

    Washington
    CNN
     —

Republican senators struggled to defend Donald Trump’s decision to commute and pardon hundreds of January 6 protesters, including those who were charged and convicted of crimes against police officers, just hours after the president entered office Monday.

Sen. Thom Tillis, a Republican from North Carolina, who has warned before about giving a blanket pardon to the rioters, said, “I just can’t agree” with Trump’s decision to commute the sentences or pardon a vast swath of January 6 insurrection participants.

He added the move “raises a legitimate safety issues on Capitol Hill” before also attacking former President Joe Biden’s pardons in his final hours in office.

Trump’s executive action, which many GOP senators had hoped would be directed at only nonviolent offenders who entered the Capitol that day, thrust Republicans once again into a familiar posture of navigating how and when to distance themselves from the sitting president and leader of their party. And Republicans largely attempted to sidestep direct questions about whether they personally agreed with Trump’s action, arguing it was up to the president to use his pardon powers at his discretion.

Trump pardoned more than 1,000 people who were charged in the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021. He also commuted the sentences of 14 people in the Proud Boy or Oath Keepers who were charged with seditious conspiracy.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune, a Republican from South Dakota, sidestepped questions about the pardons, saying, “We’re looking at the future, not the past” when asked whether it was a mistake for Trump.

The president’s move put Republican senators in the awkward position of having to either defy Trump just hours after he was sworn in inside the US Capitol or defend releasing prisoners who attacked some of the very officers who protect the Capitol every day.

Sen. James Lankford, a Republican from Oklahoma, told CNN he was still digesting the “details” of Trump’s pardons and commutations, but pressed on how some of the recipients were responsible for attacking police officers, he said, “I think if you attack a police officer that’s a very serious issue and they should pay a price for that.”

“I think we need to continue to say we are a party of law and order,” Lankford said. “And that is incredibly important to be able to protect those folks who are protecting us every single day.”

Sens. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, two Republicans who voted to convict Trump after his second impeachment trial in 2021, objected to his decision to give blanket pardons.

Cassidy, who is up for reelection and facing a primary, told CNN: “I’m a big ‘back-the-blue’ guy. I think people who assault police officers — if they do the crime, they should do the time.”

Murkowski said she’s concerned about the message the pardons send to the US Capitol Police officers who protect the lawmakers every day.

“I don’t think that the approach of a blanket pardon that includes those who caused harm, physical harm, to our police officers, to others that resulted in violence, I’m disappointed to see that,” Murkowski said. “And I do fear the message that is sent to these great men and women that stood by us.”

When asked Tuesday whether he believed it was never acceptable to assault a police officer, Trump replied, “Sure.” Pressed on a specific case of an individual who drove a stun gun into the neck of a police officer but who received a pardon, Trump said he didn’t know but would “take a look at everything.”

Asked once more whether the pardons were sending a message that assaulting officers is OK, Trump said, “No, the opposite.”

“I’m the friend of police more than any president that’s ever been in this office,” he said.

Shortly before taking office, Vice President JD Vance said those who committed violence that day “obviously” shouldn’t be pardoned.

Asked Tuesday why Vance’s assertion was wrong, Trump said, “Well, only for one reason: They’ve served years in jail. They should not have served — excuse me — and they’ve served years in jail. … These were people that actually love our country, so we thought a pardon would be appropriate.”

Most Republicans wouldn’t weigh in on whether Trump had made the right decision. Sen. John Cornyn, a Republican from Texas, argued it was the president’s prerogative, not Congress’, to issue pardons, a sentiment echoed by several others, including House Speaker Mike Johnson.

“It’s not my place. It’s the president’s sole decision, and he made a decision so I stand with him on it,” the Louisiana Republican told reporters Tuesday night after previously declining to comment.

Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, a Republican from West Virginia, said, “I think obviously the pardon authority has really been opened up.”

“President Biden obviously with his preemptive pardons has opened it up even more, so the president has that authority. That sort of is my opinion on it,” she added.

Biden on Monday issued an extraordinary slate of preemptive pardons for prominent critics of Trump and for members of his own family, using executive prerogative as a shield against revenge by his incoming successor.

Sen. Mike Rounds, another Republican from South Dakota, argued Trump “has the constitutional ability to make those, and so it’s up to him to do that. It’s not up to us, and it’s up to him to explain them.”

Sen. Susan Collins, a Republican from Maine who has broken with Trump in the past, said it had overall been “a terrible week for our justice system,” arguing Biden had gone too far in his final hours as president with pardons as well.

“It seems to me the press ought to be paying attention to this as well: preemptively granting pardons to five more members of his family, and we had the incoming president pardoning people who committed violent crimes,” she said. “We also have the outgoing president granting a pardon to an individual who killed two FBI agents.” (In addition to members of his family, Biden issued a commutation to Leonard Peltier, an Indigenous activist who was convicted in the killing of two FBI agents in 1975.)

Asked repeatedly by CNN’s Erin Burnett on Tuesday about the pardons for individuals who attacked officers, Sen. Markwayne Mullin largely redirected to discussing Biden’s pardons, even as he agreed that January 6 was “no question” a “riot.”

“I have my personal feelings on it, but the American people have chosen to move on, and President Trump, it’s his prerogative to do this. … I get what you’re saying about the violent crime; however, that is still the president’s prerogative, just like it was Joe Biden’s prerogative,” the Oklahoma Republican said on “OutFront.”

Sen. Steve Daines, a Republican from Montana and former chairman of the Senate’s campaign arm, would only say, “I’m grateful President Trump is the president of the United States” when asked for his reaction to the pardons.

This story has been updated with additional information.

CNN’s Betsy Klein, Manu Raju, Morgan Rimmer and Ali Main contributed to this report.

The recent news of former President Donald Trump’s decision to pardon several individuals involved in the January 6 Capitol insurrection has left many Republicans scrambling to come up with a response. Just hours into his presidency, Trump’s controversial move has once again reignited debates about accountability and justice.

Many Republicans have been put in a difficult position, as they try to balance their loyalty to Trump with the need to condemn the actions of those involved in the violent attack on the Capitol. Some have chosen to remain silent on the issue, while others have attempted to downplay the significance of the pardons.

However, the fact remains that Trump’s decision to pardon these individuals sends a troubling message about the consequences of their actions. It raises questions about whether there will ever be true accountability for those who participated in the insurrection, and whether the rule of law will be upheld.

As Republicans continue to grapple with how to respond to Trump’s pardons, it is clear that this issue will continue to be a point of contention within the party. The fallout from this decision may have far-reaching consequences for the GOP and its future direction.

India drop Rohit Sharma but batters struggle again in Australia | Cricket News

Australia gain the early advantage in Sydney in the World Test Championship deciding fifth Test against India.

India dropped skipper Rohit Sharma but their batting woes continued as they were dismissed for 185 on the opening day of the crucial fifth and final Test against Australia in Sydney.

Scott Boland led the way with four for 31 on Friday as Australia’s bowlers revelled in seam-friendly conditions to restrict India’s scoring and knock over wickets with a regularity that delighted a sellout crowd of 48,000.

Only the suspicion of what Jasprit Bumrah, the outstanding bowler of the series and Rohit’s replacement as captain, might do on the surface constrained the joy of home fans packed into the famous old ground.

They got a hint from the last ball of the three overs India managed to bowl before the close of play when Bumrah dismissed Usman Khawaja for two.

Teenager Sam Konstas, who had a brief altercation with Bumrah just before Khawaja’s departure, will resume on seven not out with Australia nine for one.

Australia lead the series 2-1 and will not only seal the Border-Gavaskar Trophy but also a place in the World Test Championship final against South Africa with a victory in the finale.

“I thought all the bowlers were really good. To bowl them out for under 200 was an excellent day,” said Australia’s debutant all-rounder Beau Webster, who conceded it may not be the highest-scoring surface. “I’m not really sure what a good score is just yet, until both teams bat on it,” he added.

Boland precipitated the end of India’s laboured innings early in the final session when he had Rishabh Pant caught at mid-on for 40 and dismissed Melbourne centurion Nitish Kumar Reddy off consecutive balls.

Washington Sundar was beaten by Boland’s hat-trick ball without making contact with it but Ravindra Jadeja was soon trapped plumb in front by Mitchell Starc (3-49) for 26 to leave India reeling on 134-7.

Sundar was unfortunate to depart for 14 when a TV review detected a brush of his glove on a Pat Cummins delivery, while Bumrah wagged the tail with 22 runs from 17 balls before the Australia skipper had him caught at mid-wicket to end the innings.

Pant said he would have been happier with 40 or 50 more runs but felt that India’s score was not that far from par on a tricky wicket. “It’s still a very competitive score, because of the way ball is moving now,” he told reporters. “There’s lot of help for the bowler, and hopefully we can capitalise on that.”

India could still retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a victory but looked on the back foot from the moment Bumrah won the toss and sent his team into bat.

Cummins said he would have done the same but the paceman was still licking his lips at the greenish tinge on the wicket – and the leaden skies above Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

The tourists had 11 runs on the board when Rahul departed for four and only six more when Jaiswal, on 10, was caught in the slips off Boland.

Boland thought he had Virat Kohli out for a golden duck off the next delivery but the roars of the crowd turned to jeers when it was ruled the ball had kissed the grass as Steve Smith flicked it up for Marnus Labuschagne to catch.

Cummins tossed the ball to Nathan Lyon for the last over before Lunch and the spinner removed Shubman Gill, Rohit’s batting replacement, for 20 with an edge into the busy slip cordon.

Kohli had scored 17 runs from 69 balls when he became Boland’s second victim with a stab at a delivery outside off which Webster collected with a fine diving catch in the slips.

Bumrah said at the toss that Rohit’s absence from the team was the 37-year-old’s own choice. “Our captain has shown leadership by opting to rest in this game,” he explained.

India drop Rohit Sharma but batters struggle again in Australia | Cricket News

In a surprising move, India decided to drop star batsman Rohit Sharma for the second test against Australia. Despite this bold decision, India’s batters continued to struggle in their second innings, failing to chase down a modest target set by the hosts.

Rohit Sharma’s omission from the playing XI raised eyebrows among fans and experts alike, as he has been one of India’s most consistent performers in recent times. However, the team management decided to give him a rest, citing workload management as the reason for his exclusion.

Despite the absence of Rohit Sharma, India’s top order once again failed to deliver, with only a few batsmen managing to make significant contributions. The middle order also collapsed under pressure, leaving the lower order with too much to do in the final overs.

With this loss, India finds themselves trailing in the series against Australia, and will need to regroup quickly if they are to salvage a result in the remaining matches. The team management will have to rethink their strategy and make some tough decisions ahead of the next test to ensure a better showing from their batters.

Overall, India’s batting woes continue to be a cause for concern, and the team will need to address these issues quickly if they are to compete against a strong Australian side. The pressure will be on the batters to step up and deliver in the upcoming matches, as India looks to turn their fortunes around in the series.

  • Why Mike Johnson’s bid to remain speaker could be a struggle despite Trump’s support

Why Mike Johnson’s bid to remain speaker could be a struggle despite Trump’s support

WASHINGTON (AP) — Mike Johnson is fighting for his political life, again.

The Louisiana Republican’s hold on the House speaker’s gavel and his position as second in line to the presidency will be tested Friday when a new Congress convenes and House Republicans weigh whether to reelect him to the post.

The challenge, as always, is that Johnson will need almost every Republican vote to win.

Johnson has a singular asset in his favor: President-elect Donald Trump endorsed him for speaker in a social media post at the start of the week. But it’s uncertain whether Trump’s blessing will be enough to persuade far-right Republicans who have at times grown frustrated with Johnson’s leadership and who are prone to demand concessions when their votes become essential.

Johnson, 52, ascended to the speakership in October 2023 almost by accident after Republicans struggled to replace Kevin McCarthy following the unprecedented removal of the California Republican from the job. Several contenders tried and failed before Republicans settled on Johnson, who is well liked across the conference.

But Johnson’s handling of major funding fights, including passage of aid to Ukraine last spring and, most recently, a short-term spending bill, has turned at least a few allies into detractors.

With Republicans holding a narrow 220-215 majority in the House, it would take only two GOP lawmakers voting for other candidates to deny Johnson a majority for the speakership, forcing more rounds of voting.

Here’s what to know about how the House elects a speaker:

    No House without a speaker

Electing a speaker is the first order of business for the House after a new session of Congress begins at noon. It’s a vote that members take even before being sworn into office.

The House cannot organize until it has a speaker because that person effectively serves as the House’s presiding officer and the institution’s administrative head. The House can elect a new speaker at any time if the person occupying that role dies, resigns or is removed from office. The speakership has been vacant only 13 times in U.S. history, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service. No speaker had ever been removed until eight Republicans joined with Democrats to oust McCarthy.

Barring those instances, a speaker is normally elected at the start of a new Congress and serves in the job for the full two-year session.

The House clerk presides over the speaker’s election. Lawmakers call out the name of their choice for speaker from the floor, a rare and time-consuming roll call that heightens the drama on the floor. Members often liven up the proceedings by shouting or standing when casting their vote.

    Who can be nominated?

Any name can be called out from the House floor. While it has been the tradition for the speaker to be a member of the House, it is not required.

In past years, Democratic President Joe Biden, Trump and even a senator, Republican Rand Paul of Kentucky, have received votes for House speaker. None received the majority of the vote. And generally, a party’s official nominee for speaker is who ends up with the gavel.

Republicans chose Johnson as their nominee for speaker in a closed-door vote in November. A week later, Democrats unanimously chose Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., to remain their leader despite the party’s electoral losses.

Lawmakers are not obligated to vote for their party’s nominated candidate. And that is why the process can quickly get messy.

    Let the voting begin

Once the House is in a quorum — meaning the minimum number of members are present to proceed — nominating speeches will be made on behalf of the nominees for speaker. The clerk appoints lawmakers from each party as tellers to tally the votes before the roll call begins.

To become speaker, a candidate needs a majority of the votes from House members who are present and voting.

Historically, the magical number has been 218 out of the 435 members of the House. But many previous speakers, including McCarthy, have won with fewer votes because members sometimes vote “present” instead of calling out a name. Every lawmaker voting “present” lowers the overall tally needed to reach a majority.

It remains to be seen whether Johnson will reach a majority to become speaker on the first ballot. Should he come up short, it is likely the clerk will move to start another roll call vote.

McCarthy went through a grueling 15 ballots over four days before he gained enough support to become the 55th speaker in January 2023.

    Passing of the gavel

Once a speaker candidate wins a majority of those present and voting, the clerk will announce the results of the election.

A bipartisan committee, usually consisting of members from the home state of the chosen candidate, will escort the speaker-elect to the chair on the dais where the oath of office is administered. The oath is identical to the one new members will take once a speaker is chosen.

The outgoing speaker usually joins the successor at the speaker’s chair, where the gavel is passed as a nod to the peaceful transition of power from one party leader to another. But this time around, given that Johnson is already the speaker, it will likely be Jeffries who would once again hand Johnson the gavel.

Mike Johnson, the current Speaker of the House, is facing a tough battle to retain his position despite receiving support from former President Donald Trump. While Trump’s endorsement may seem like a significant advantage, there are several factors that could make Johnson’s bid for reelection a struggle.

First and foremost, Johnson is facing strong opposition from within his own party. Several Republican lawmakers have expressed concerns about Johnson’s leadership style and his handling of key legislative issues. This internal dissent could make it difficult for Johnson to garner enough support from his fellow Republicans to secure another term as Speaker.

Additionally, Johnson’s ties to Trump could prove to be a double-edged sword. While Trump’s endorsement may rally some members of the party to Johnson’s side, it could also alienate moderate Republicans and independents who may view Trump as a divisive figure. In a closely divided House, Johnson will need to appeal to a broad coalition of lawmakers in order to secure the votes needed to remain in power.

Furthermore, Johnson is facing mounting pressure from Democrats who are eager to regain control of the House. With the midterm elections looming, Democrats are likely to make Johnson’s leadership a central issue in their campaign messaging. This increased scrutiny could further weaken Johnson’s position and make it harder for him to retain the support of his colleagues.

In conclusion, while Trump’s endorsement may provide a boost to Johnson’s bid for reelection, he still faces significant challenges in his quest to remain Speaker of the House. Internal party dissent, opposition from Democrats, and the potential backlash from Trump’s association could all combine to make Johnson’s bid a struggle. Only time will tell if he is able to overcome these obstacles and secure another term as Speaker.
