  • Jordan Spieth Reveals Gnarly Wrist Injury He Suffered at Last Year’s British Open

Jordan Spieth had a year to forget in 2024. The three-time major champion struggled all season with a wrist injury which greatly hindered his ability to perform on the golf course.

The injury has plagued Spieth since 2023, but it wasn’t until last year’s British Open that the 31-year-old decided enough was enough.

While speaking with Jim Nantz at a Q&A Wednesday night and reported via Golfweek, Jordan explained what happened at Royal Troon.

“I got [the tendon] back in before I hit my tee shot, and that’s when I thought maybe that’s the last straw. Maybe we should probably do something about this,” he said. “I don’t really feel like playing like this anymore.”

Spieth finished the season and then had surgery once he was eliminated from the FedEx Cup playoffs. He continued to explain the recovery process since his surgery.

“A real ball, if I hit more than 40, 50 yards hurt pretty bad on impact,” he told Nantz. “Then at around Week 12, which is what my surgeon thought it would be of the recovery time, there was a stretch there between like 11 and a half and 12 and a half where I could start to hit on a ball count and I would hit one, say a 6-iron thin off the heel and it hurt real bad.

“Then one day the thin heel one just didn’t hurt anymore. I hit it and I was like that should be the exact same as it was yesterday and it just didn’t hurt.”

Spieth is unsure of how he will play in his first start since the surgery.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m in the top 10 entering Sunday here, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m not,” he said.

If there is anywhere that Spieth can play well despite some rust, it’s Pebble Beach. He won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in 2017 and also has three top-10 finishes in the event in his past five starts.

Jordan Spieth, the three-time major champion and former world number one, has revealed a gnarly wrist injury he suffered at last year’s British Open.

In an interview with Golf Digest, Spieth opened up about the injury, which occurred during the second round of the tournament at Royal St. George’s Golf Club. The 28-year-old Texan said he felt a sharp pain in his wrist after hitting a shot out of the rough on the 12th hole.

“I knew something was wrong as soon as I made contact with the ball,” Spieth said. “It felt like a lightning bolt shooting up my arm. I knew I had to finish the round, but it was excruciating.”

Spieth went on to finish the tournament tied for 30th, but the injury continued to bother him for months afterwards. He eventually sought treatment from a specialist, who diagnosed him with a torn ligament in his wrist.

“It was a tough pill to swallow, knowing that I had played through the pain and potentially made the injury worse,” Spieth said. “But I’m grateful for the medical team that helped me get back to full health.”

Despite the setback, Spieth is confident that he will be able to compete at the highest level again. He recently won the Valero Texas Open, his first PGA Tour victory in nearly four years, and is looking forward to the upcoming majors.

“I’ve learned a lot from this experience, both mentally and physically,” Spieth said. “I’m stronger and more determined than ever to get back to the top of the game. Watch out, world, because I’m coming for you.”

  • Russia suffered 434,000 casualties in 2024, the commander in chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, has claimed, saying it was more than the previous two years combined. Oleksandr Syrskyi said in an interview broadcast on Sunday evening that the figure included 150,000 deaths. Syrskyi did not give a figure for Ukrainian casualties. Ukraine’s General Staff also reported over the weekend that almost 819,000 Russian soldiers had been killed, captured or wounded since the start of the war. In December 2024, Kyiv said 2,200 Russian soldiers died in the space of 24 hours, its worst toll since the start of the war. Western tallies for Russian casualties are lower, with an assessment in October last year stating up to 115,000 had been killed and 500,000 wounded since the start of the full-scale invasion.

  • Moscow has opened a criminal investigation into claims Ukraine killed civilians in the western Russian Kursk region. Russia’s Investigative Committee, which probes major crimes, alleged Ukrainian troops “committed the murder of at least seven civilians, who were sheltering in the basement of a residential house” in the village of Russkoe Porechnoye, 20km (12 miles) from the border. Ukraine did not officially respond to the allegations. Both Ukraine and Russia regularly accuse the other of attacking non-combatants, and both deny the claims. Russia’s foreign spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, accused Ukraine of the “cannibalistic massacre of civilians”. After launching a surprise offensive attack in the Kursk region, Ukraine has controlled dozens of border settlements, and says around 2,000 civilians live in occupied areas. Several Russian state media outlets published video, supplied by the army, that they said showed Russian troops discovering several dead bodies in a dark basement. AFP could not immediately verify the claims or the video. Russian forces are accused of having murdered hundreds of civilians in the Ukrainian town of Bucha, during a month-long occupation at the start of the conflict.

  • Ukraine shot down 43 out of the 61 drones launched by Russia on Sunday night, its airforce said. It also said that 15 other drones were “lost”, after being redirected by Kyiv’s use of electronic warfare. No major damage or casualties were immediately reported by officials.

  • Russian troops have captured the village of Vozdvyzhenka in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine, the Russian Interfax news agency reported on Sunday, citing the Russian defence ministry. Reuters could not independently confirm the battlefield reports.

  • Ukrainians celebrated Orthodox holiday Epiphany on Sunday, despite the war sparking a religious divide. “There’s explosions here, bangs there, we always expect something bad. But now we just stood still, forgot about everything, and prayed to God,” military medic Natalya told AFP. Ukrainians have largely moved away from the Ukrainian Orthodox church – which sits under the Moscow Patriarchate – since the invasion, with the majority now following a Kyiv-led church. The Ukrainian Orthodox church remains controversial for not formally breaking away from Moscow’s leadership, though it has denounced the war and denied it depends on Russia.

In a recent update on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, Ukrainian Commander in Chief has claimed that Russia suffered record casualties in 2024. The commander revealed that Ukrainian forces have successfully inflicted heavy losses on Russian troops, dealing a significant blow to their military capabilities.

This news comes as a major development in the conflict, with Ukraine showing strong resistance against Russian aggression. The commander emphasized that Ukrainian forces are determined to defend their sovereignty and will continue to fight against Russian aggression.

The international community has been closely monitoring the situation in Ukraine, with many countries condemning Russia’s actions and calling for a peaceful resolution to the conflict. The high number of casualties suffered by Russian forces in 2024 further highlights the brutal nature of the conflict and the toll it is taking on both sides.

As the conflict in Ukraine continues to escalate, it is crucial for all parties involved to prioritize diplomacy and seek a peaceful resolution. The suffering and loss of life on both sides must be addressed, and efforts must be made to end the violence and find a solution that respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

  • Ryan Poles Just Suffered A Death Blow In Loss To Detroit

Ryan Poles Just Suffered A Death Blow In Loss To Detroit

Ryan Poles managed to hide behind Matt Eberflus throughout the Chicago Bears‘ downhill slide all season. Undoubtedly the GM hopes a fresh voice at head coach after Eberflus was fired might finally push the team into the win column. That hasn’t happened. In fact, it has made the Bears worse, especially on defense. There is no escaping responsibility for Poles. This mess is his making, from top to bottom. There was no meddling from ownership or team president Kevin Warren. He had free reign to build this thing his way and it’s been a disaster.

Sunday’s 34-17 loss to the Detroit Lions might have seemed inconsequential in the big picture, but not from Poles’ perspective. It was a disaster for several reasons. Let’s start with the most obvious. That defeat was the Bears’ ninth in a row, the second-longest streak in franchise history. The longest is 14 games, which took place between 2022 and 2023. Poles was the GM during both.

It only gets worse from there. Kiran Amegadjie, Poles’ prized 3rd round pick this year, was declared a healthy scratch for the game. Larry Borom and Jake Curhan were considered better options than him. Curhan made some crippling mistakes when he got into the game. Then, just for good measure, Braxton Jones broke his leg.

“This is the deepest room I’ve ever been a part of.’ So we have more versatility, more depth. Shoot, we have 10 guys, so I feel comfortable. Obviously, you want your starting five to be healthy and ready to go, but I feel more confident in the depth of our offensive line than I ever have before.”

Ryan Poles also can’t escape another poor free agency swing.

Everybody talks about Nate Davis and the disaster he was. It might be time to point out that D’Andre Swift, while not nearly as big of a fiasco, has also been a disappointment. He signed a $24 million contract with the Bears this spring. With the final whistle on Sunday, it was the tenth game this season where he averaged less than four yards per carry. It was the fifth game where he averaged under three yards per carry. Williams has almost half of his rushing total despite a third of the carries.

Ryan Poles didn’t have a bad plan. He wanted to build through the draft, be measured in free agency, protect the team finances, and always maintain a good supply of resources. The problem is for any plan to work, you still must find good players and coaches. The GM failed spectacularly in the former and too much in the latter. His excuses have run dry. If he survives the end of this season, it won’t be because he earned it. Only the good graces of George McCaskey will preserve him.

Ryan Poles, the general manager of the Chicago Bears, just suffered a devastating blow in the team’s loss to the Detroit Lions. The Bears’ 16-14 defeat at the hands of their division rivals has put Poles on the hot seat as fans and analysts question his decisions and the future of the team.

Poles, who was hired by the Bears in January 2022, was supposed to bring a fresh perspective and turn the struggling franchise around. However, with the team now sitting at 2-3 and showing little improvement on the field, Poles is facing increased scrutiny and pressure to make changes.

The loss to the Lions was particularly painful for Poles and the Bears, as it highlighted the team’s continued struggles on both offense and defense. With key players underperforming and injuries piling up, Poles must now make tough decisions to salvage the season and his reputation as a GM.

As the Bears head into their bye week, Poles will have to regroup and come up with a plan to address the team’s issues and turn things around. The loss to the Lions may have been a death blow for Poles, but it’s not too late for him to make a comeback and prove his worth to the Bears’ organization and fans.
