What to Know
Duquesne and Fordham are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. Both will face off in an Atlantic 10 battle at 12:00 p.m. ET on Sunday at Rose Hill Gym. The Rams have the home-court advantage, but the Dukes are expected to win by 2.5 points.
Duquesne is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Dayton just ended the team’s three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They wound up on the wrong side of a bruising 82-62 walloping at the hands of the Flyers. The Dukes were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-25.
Duquesne’s defeat shouldn’t obscure the performances of Tre Dinkins III, who earned 14 points, and Kareem Rozier, who had eight points in addition to five assists and three steals.
Meanwhile, Fordham’s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their sixth straight loss. They fell to Loyola Chi. 70-66.
Fordham’s defeat shouldn’t obscure the performances of Japhet Medor, who went 6 for 11 en route to 22 points plus six assists, and Jackie Johnson III, who earned 22 points in addition to two steals. The matchup was Johnson III’s third in a row with at least 22.4 points.
Duquesne now has a losing record at 9-10. As for Fordham, their loss dropped their record down to 8-11.
Duquesne came up short against Fordham when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 79-67. Can Duquesne avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We’ll find out soon enough.
Odds
Duquesne is a slight 2.5-point favorite against Fordham, according to the latest college basketball odds.
The oddsmakers had a good feel for the line for this one, as the game opened with the Dukes as a 1.5-point favorite.
The over/under is 139 points.

Daily fantasy football picks for Sunday’s NFL Championship games
There are behaviors we all know to be foolish. You don’t spit into the wind, don’t touch a hot stove, don’t pet a strange dog — that last one is really hard.
But there are times when it makes sense to take risks, to roll the dice on an unlikely outcome. That time arrives in game theory, when an unpopular pick can be an asset if that pick does something surprising.
For daily fantasy purposes, that pick can be someone with a bad matchup, someone who hasn’t performed well recently, someone who is just forgotten in the mix of things.
Rarely is that pick a generational GOAT with three Super Bowl rings, MVP honors in all three, plus two MVP seasons to his credit. But here we are.
Are you ready for some championship-level fantasy football action? Look no further than these top picks for Sunday’s NFL Championship games!Quarterback:
– Patrick Mahomes (Kansas City Chiefs): Mahomes has been on fire this season and is facing a tough Buffalo Bills defense. With his ability to make big plays and put up points, he’s a top pick for Sunday.Running Back:
– Aaron Jones (Green Bay Packers): Jones has been a consistent performer for the Packers all season and is facing a Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense that struggles against the run. Look for Jones to have a big game on Sunday.Wide Receiver:

– Travis Kelce (Kansas City Chiefs): Kelce is a matchup nightmare for defenses and has been Mahomes’ favorite target all season. Look for Kelce to have a big game against the Bills on Sunday.Defense:
– Green Bay Packers: The Packers defense has been solid all season and is facing a Buccaneers offense that can be turnover-prone. Look for the Packers defense to make some big plays and put up fantasy points on Sunday.Don’t miss out on the chance to dominate your fantasy football league with these top picks for Sunday’s NFL Championship games! Belarusian opposition denounces Lukashenko and Sunday’s election
Sarah RainsfordBBC Eastern Europe correspondent
European Pressphoto Agency
In 2020 hundreds of thousands of Belarusians took to the streets to protest. In 2025 demonstrations are unlikely Svetlana Tikhanovskaya refuses to call what’s happening this weekend in Belarus an election.
“It’s a sham,” the exiled opposition leader says. “This is a military-style operation; a performance staged by the regime to hold on to power.”
For three decades, the country has been led by an increasingly authoritarian Alexander Lukashenko, now firmly backed by Vladimir Putin who makes use of his neighbour in his full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
This Sunday, Belarusians will see Lukashenko’s name on the ballot paper once again, with four other names chosen carefully to be no challenge.
No independent observers are allowed.
Despite being the regime’s harshest critic, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya is not telling Belarusians to take to the streets The tight controls have been put in place because last time Belarusians voted for a president, the country was swept by giant protests.
In 2020, Alexander Lukashenko allowed Svetlana Tikhanovskaya to run against him, thinking that a political novice – and a woman – would make no impact.
It was a massive miscalculation.
Tikhanovskaya, who decided to stand in place of her husband after Lukashenko put him in jail, claimed victory.
When Lukashenko was awarded 80% of the vote, crowds took to the streets in the biggest ever threat to his rule. The protests were ultimately crushed by riot police with mass arrests and brute force.
The European Union then refused to recognise Lukashenko’s legitimacy as president.
Today, all the key opposition figures from that period are in prison or have fled abroad, like Tikhanovskaya. Former protesters still in Belarus have been scared into silence.
So the opposition leader is not urging them to take to the streets again on Sunday.
“We call on Belarusians to reject this sham and on the international community to reject the result,” she tells the BBC. “But I say to Belarusians, you have to keep safe until the real moment of possibility.
“Because people live in constant fear, and the regime is now intensifying the repression.”
Handout
Vet Yana Zhuravleva had to leave Belarus with her cats You feel that fear straight away when you speak to Belarusians.
Many don’t want to talk publicly about politics at all. Others ask you to change their names, then choose their words carefully.
Some still inside Belarus chat only via encrypted messages which they delete immediately.
All say open political activism in the country has been extinguished.
Bysol, a non-profit organisation which helps evacuate those in danger, reports a surge in applications to around 30 or 40 requests a month.
Since 2020, the group has evacuated more than 1,500 people.
It also supports former political prisoners trying to rebuild life in exile after their release.
For Yana Zhuravleva, a vet, that’s been tough.
Prior to 2020 she was devoted to her work and not particularly politically active. But that summer she joined the giant crowds, hopeful of change.
She was later sentenced to three years for a “gross violation of public order”.
“We would get punished for everything,” she recalls of her time in prison.
She calculates that about 1 in 10 of the women were there because of the protests. Like them, Yana was added to the register of those “inclined to extremism and destructive activity”.
“You can’t go to the sports hall, your only letters are from relatives and you get fewer visiting rights. If you complain you always hear the same response: remember what you’re here for,” she tells me from Poland, where she moved after her recent release.
Yana admits it took “titanic” strength not to slide into deep depression.
“In prison, I barely cried. But when I was out, I suddenly wanted to sob all the time, and didn’t know why.”
European Photopress Agency
The mass protests in 2020 were followed by a brutal crackdown. Several people I contacted have mentioned seeking psychological help after being interrogated, threatened or imprisoned.
They describe a security service that hunts down anyone with the loosest link to the opposition, then demands names from all those it detains.
The pressure has never let up.
One woman inside Belarus, who used to monitor human rights, tells me she’s had to stop attending court hearings because the authorities spotted her.
If they could prove any link to the banned human rights organisation Viasna, she could be charged as an “extremist”.
“I can do some specific acts of support, but I have to be careful,” she told me anonymously.
“You have a very strong sense of helplessness when you see all this injustice.”
Viasna currently lists 1,256 political prisoners in Belarus. Dozens were given amnesties recently, but they were soon replaced.
For those who do escape the pressure-cooker of Belarus, there is the added struggle of knowing they may not return for a long time.
That’s why Natalia, not her real name, decided to stay in Belarus even after she was detained twice for participating in the protests.
“You’re very vulnerable once you’re on the list of the ‘repressed’,” she explains.
“You can’t get work because you are on the police data base and the authorities always have an eye on you.”
For Natalia that meant being arrested again, initially for walking her dog without a lead.
“They claimed I’d been aggressive and cursed loudly and waved my arms,” she remembers, of her detention in 2023. She was held for ten days with up to 14 people in a cell for two, a light on constantly.
For over a week, she slept on the wooden floor.
“It really shook my sense of security, I became much more anxious,” Natalia confides.
She’s abroad for now and plans to return soon, to her cats. But her neighbours say a police officer just visited her house, checking up on all potential protesters ahead of Sunday’s vote.
Reuters
Russian missiles have been launched from Belarus into Ukraine Svetlana Tikhanovskaya believes the ongoing repression shows that Lukashenko and his allies are afraid.
“The trauma of 2020 is still alive and he has to eliminate any possibility of uprising,” the opposition leader argues.
“He knows the Belarusians didn’t accept or forgive him, and they still want change.”
But she admits there’s little sign of that in the short-term.
For a time after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Belarusians hoped their neighbours might succeed in defeating Putin with Western help, and that Lukashenko would be toppled next.
Some headed for the frontline themselves, choosing force after their peaceful protests had failed.
But Ukraine’s military is now struggling to hold ground and President Donald Trump is pushing for peace talks.
“The democratic world can’t make concessions to Putin,” Tikhanovskaya argues, describing Lukashenko as equally dangerous to the world.
He let Russia launch missiles at Ukraine from Belarus and send its tanks through his territory.
He’s also allowed the free flow of migrants to the Polish border and into the EU.
“He allows Putin to deploy nuclear weapons and his army in Belarus, and it’s a very short path to Poland and Lithuania,” Tikhanovskaya points out.
“He and Putin are a pair, and they support other dictators. He’s part of this chain of evil.”
There is little doubt that Sunday’s reinstatement of Alexander Lukashenko will go according to his plan.
“Those people are very capable,” explains Yana, the former political prisoner.
“They really did crush the potential for protest.”
She’s now trying to return to her profession as a vet, but in Poland, and to recover from three tough years behind bars.
Those I spoke to now talk of Lukashenko retiring, or eventually dying, as their greatest hope of seeing democracy.
In the meantime, many are switching focus: there’s been a surge of interest in reviving the Belarusian culture and language, an opposition cause. It’s the most many dare do in such circumstances.
“No-one says it openly, but we feel like there are no prospects. There’s depression,” Natalia admits.
But there are no obvious regrets, even so.
Svetlana Tikhanovskaya’s own life has changed dramatically since she was thrust into politics.
Cut-off from her country, her husband is also a political prisoner – kept in total isolation for almost two years.
The opposition leader insists she still “truly believes” in change.
“2020 was a huge shift in mentality in Belarus. I don’t know how long it will take, but that shift will not disappear.”
The Belarusian opposition has come out strongly against President Alexander Lukashenko and the upcoming presidential election scheduled for this Sunday, August 9th.Opposition leaders, including Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, have accused Lukashenko of suppressing dissent, curtailing freedoms, and rigging elections to maintain his grip on power for the past 26 years. They have called for a boycott of the election and are urging the international community to reject the results if Lukashenko is declared the winner.
Tikhanovskaya, who is running in place of her husband, a popular blogger who was arrested and barred from running, has gained widespread support among Belarusians who are fed up with Lukashenko’s authoritarian rule. Thousands of people have taken to the streets in recent weeks to protest against the government and demand fair and free elections.
The opposition’s denunciation of Lukashenko and the upcoming election underscores the deep divisions and growing unrest in Belarus. As tensions escalate, all eyes will be on Sunday’s election and the aftermath as Belarusians continue to fight for democracy and change.

Christie (elbow) played the final 27 seconds of Sunday’s 116-102 win over the Lakers, scoring one point (1-2 FT) and recording no other statistics.
A rookie second-round pick, Christie had most recently seen action with the G League’s San Diego Clippers, though he sat out the affiliate’s 110-109 loss to the Capital City Go-Go on Thursday. The injury apparently wasn’t significant enough for the Clippers to recall him and make him available for Sunday’s contest with the Lakers. Though Christie hasn’t been a regular part of the NBA rotation this season, he got the chance to take the court in the final minute Sunday so he could share the floor with his older brother, Lakers wing Max Christie. The younger Christie will likely be headed back to the G League in the near future.
In Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings, backup quarterback Cam Christie saw some action in garbage time as the Green Bay Packers secured a convincing win. Despite limited playing time, Christie showed promise and potential, completing several passes and managing the offense effectively. While Christie may not be a household name yet, his performance in garbage time is a positive sign for the Packers’ depth at the quarterback position. With starter Aaron Rodgers leading the way, Christie has the opportunity to continue developing and making a case for more playing time in the future.
Stay tuned for more updates on Cam Christie and the rest of the Green Bay Packers as they continue their quest for a successful season.

What to Know
The Denver Nuggets are taking a road trip to face off against the Orlando Magic at 6:00 p.m. ET on Sunday at Kia Center. The Nuggets are looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road.
Last Friday, the Nuggets got the win against the Heat by a conclusive 133-113.
Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic were among the main playmakers for the Nuggets as the former earned 30 points along with eight assists and seven rebounds and the latter dropped a triple-double on 24 points, 12 rebounds, and ten assists. What’s more, Jokic also posted a 75% field goal percentage, which is the highest he’s posted since back in November of 2024.
The Nuggets were working as a unit and finished the game with 35 assists (they’re ranked first in assists per game overall). They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as the Heat only posted 30.
Meanwhile, the Magic were no doubt aware that the odds were against they in their game with the Celtics but that awareness did nothing to prevent the predicted outcome. The Magic suffered a bruising 121-94 loss at the hands of the Celtics on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that’s the biggest defeat Orlando has suffered against Boston since February 6, 2022.
Denver has been performing well recently as they’ve won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 25-16 record this season. As for Orlando, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 23-20.
Keep an eye on the arc in Sunday’s matchup: The Nuggets have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 38.5% of their threes per game. It’s a different story for the Magic, though, as they’ve only made 30.4% of their threes this season. Given the Nuggets’ sizable advantage in that area, the Magic will need to find a way to close that gap.
Going forward, the Nuggets are the favorite in this one, as the experts expect to see them win by 7.5 points. Anyone thinking of taking them against the spread should keep this in mind: the team hasn’t covered the last seven times they’ve played Orlando.
Odds
Denver is a big 7.5-point favorite against Orlando, according to the latest NBA odds.
The line on this game has moved quite a bit since it opened, as it started out with the Nuggets as a 3-point favorite.
The over/under is 221.5 points.

This Super Bowl, the annual ‘Kick of Destiny’ is occurring between former legendary Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning and his other calf of ‘The ManningCast,’ retired fellow Lombardi winning quarterback (and his younger brother) Eli Manning.
Viewers can tune into FOX on this year’s Super Bowl Sunday (February 9th) and choose as early as now (for free) their choice of who’s the better kicking half of the Emmy award-winning ManningCast.
Former New England Patriots Super Bowl winning (and All-Pro) tight end Rob Gronkowski has participated in the field goal contest the past two seasons.
It’ll be interesting to see whether Peyton can channel his inner-Adam Vinatieri, a former Colts’ Hall of Fame teammate (and arguably the greatest kicker in NFL history), during this upcoming clutch ‘Super Bowl’ field goal attempt, or if he’ll be closer to ex-Colt Mike Vanderjagt, who despite being highly accurate overall in his impressive kicking pro career (with still the 8th highest FG accuracy percentage in NFL history), seemed to struggle in big moments.
While Manning would also call Vanderjagt a ‘good kicker,’ he publicly took exception to Vanderjagt’s ill-advised comments on Canadian TV back in February of 2003 in which the Colts’ All-Pro kicker questioned the fire and enthusiasm of his then Indy head coach Tony Dungy and teammate Peyton Manning—who on live national television, later labeled him an ‘idiot kicker’ among other things at the 2023 NFL Pro Bowl in Hawaii for his improper remarks.
It’ll be interesting to see what kind of field goal kicker Peyton Manning ultimately is come this year’s Super Bowl Sunday!
Former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning will be making a special appearance during Super Bowl Sunday’s ‘Kick of Destiny’ event. Manning, who is known for his accuracy and precision on the football field, will be showcasing his kicking skills in a fun and light-hearted competition.Fans can expect to see Manning go head-to-head with other NFL legends and celebrities as they attempt to kick a field goal through a set of moving goalposts. The event is sure to be entertaining and full of surprises, as Manning puts his kicking abilities to the test in front of a live audience.
Don’t miss out on the action as Peyton Manning and other football greats take the field for the ‘Kick of Destiny’ during Super Bowl Sunday. It’s sure to be a memorable and exciting event that fans won’t want to miss!

Chevron Houston Marathon preparations: City and race officials address cold weather and safety ahead of Sunday’s marathon
HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Houston is anticipating frigid temperatures in the coming days, but the coldest conditions are expected to arrive following the conclusion of Sunday’s Chevron Houston Marathon.
The race is expected to end with temperatures in the 40s after beginning with lows in the 30s.
“As we prepare for winter weather, the Chevron Marathon must go on,” Houston Mayor John Whitmire said during a press conference Friday morning.
City and race officials stressed the importance of dressing in layers for both runners and spectators come Sunday morning.
“Make sure you protect your extremities,” Houston Marathon Committee Medical Director Dr. Lars Thestrup said. “Layer, layer, layer.”
Thestrup also urged runners not to shed clothing such as jackets and sweatshirts too early in the race.

Mayor Whitmire announced that starting on Sunday, Jan. 19, the City of Houston will open 10 warming centers across our area.
He said the wind would be a factor later during both the Chevron Houston Marathon and the Aramco Houston Half Marathon.
A few runners told ABC13 Friday afternoon that they aren’t looking forward to the temperatures.
“I’ve never liked the cold,” Kory Davison said. “Running a marathon in it makes it a little bit unfavorable.”
That being said, many runners told Eyewitness News they love running in these conditions.
There will be warming buses and medics along the course.
Safety was another issue that came up during Friday morning’s press conference, especially in light of this month’s terror attack in New Orleans.
FBI Houston says there are no credible threats to the race at this time.
