  • ‘Supergirl’ movie reveals first behind-the-scenes look with ‘House of the Dragon’ star

Supergirl has arrived. House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock arrives on set for the start of filming on the next DC Studios movie, playing Kryptonian strongwoman and Superman’s cousin Kara Zor-El.

James Gunn, the co-head of DC Studios, revealed the first behind-the-scenes look at Alcock on set in London’s Leavesden Studios. “Thrilled to see cameras roll at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on Supergirl, with [director] Craig Gillespie at the helm and the phenomenal Milly Alcock as our Kara Zor-El,” Gunn wrote in a post on Threads. “Craig brings an incredible sensibility to this story, and Milly is every inch the unique #Supergirl envisioned by [Tom King], Bilquis Evely, and Ana Nogueira.”

Comic book scribe King and artist Evely created Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the title this movie now adapts. Nogueira is the screenwriter of the film.

“Introducing Kara,” Alcock herself wrote on Instagram with the same photo.

There’s a lot to be hyped about this movie, which marks the latest addition to the new DC universe on screen. After the animated Max series Creature Commandos and next year’s big-screen movie Superman — in which Alcock is first expected to appear as Kara — Supergirl not only adapts the beloved comic book arc from King and Evely but gives its lead star a bigger stage after she headlined the first portion of Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon. Alcock proved her might as young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen before two-time Golden Globe nominee Emma D’Arcy portrayed the character as an adult.

The film will also mark an appearance by Jason Momoa, who returns to DC as galactic bounty hunter Lobo after playing Aquaman in the previous run of DC movies and shows.

“I collect comics, and I don’t do so much anymore, but he was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo because I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role,’” Momoa said in a previous interview. “I mean, listen. If they call and ask me to play him, it’s a f— yeah. I haven’t received that call, so I don’t want to put any fake news out there, but if they ever call me and ask me to play or ask me to audition, I’m there.”

The Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic followed a wayward Kara when she’s approached by galactic warrior Ruthye Marye Knoll. Ruthye asks Supergirl for help hunting down those who killed her father and destroyed her world. Matthias Schoenaerts (The Old Guard) plays the villain Krem of the Yellow Hill, and Eve Ridley (3 Body Problem) plays Ruthye.

Supergirl is scheduled to hit theaters on June 26, 2026. See the behind-the-scenes look above.

  • Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow – Jason Momoa Has Been Cast As Lobo

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow – Jason Momoa Has Been Cast As Lobo

Posted in: Movies, Supergirl, Warner Bros | Tagged: , ,

Jason Momoa has rejoined the DC Universe. He has been cast as Lobo and is set to make his debut in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

The cast of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow just added another major name and character to its already impressive lineup. Considering the number of DC characters Superman is set to introduce to the universe, it really shouldn’t be that surprising that Supergirl appears to be on the same trajectory. Jason Momoa was in the previous era of the DC Universe as Aquaman, which infamously ended with the crunch of a cockroach burger. While Momoa always seemed to have a lot of love for Arthur, he also made it very clear that he might have even more love for the character of Lobo. However, back when Momoa was first cast, the character of Lobo seemed a bit more out there and something that might not play well to a mainstream audience. Things have changed a lot, and people would be willing to accept a character that is like these days. Deadline reported, and Momoa confirmed on his official Instagram that he has been cast as Lobo in the new DC Universe.

“So Lobo was… I collect comics, and I don’t do so much anymore, but he was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo, because I’m like. ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role,’” he said. “I mean, listen. If they call and ask me to play him, it’s a f*ck yeah. I haven’t received that call, so I don’t want to put any fake news out there, but if they ever call me and ask me to play, or ask me to audition, I’m there,” said the post on Momoa’s official Instagram, a quote from a previous article, with the caption “They called.”

Lobo is a character who has bounced all over the DC universe, from the Justice League to the Suicide Squad. Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen created him, and he first appeared in Omega Man #3 in June 1983. It is unclear what role he’ll play in Supergirl: Women of Tomorrow.

Here is James Gunn also confirming Momoa’s casting on his Instagram stories:

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Starts Filming In January

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is one step closer to entering production. The project, which has a writer, Ana Nogueira, was announced back in November 2023. After months of speculation posts that were starting to rival the best of them, we finally got word that Milly Alcock would be playing Supergirl at the end of January. In April, we learned that Craig Gillespie would be the director, and some of the supporting cast started filling out, with Matthias Schoenaerts joining the cast as Krem of the Yellow Hills.

Gunn explained at the time of the initial Supergirl announcement, “In our series, we see the difference between Superman, who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl, who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl. She’s much more hardcore; she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.” We don’t have any other plot details aside from the release date, June 26, 2026, for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, but the production is set to start on January 13th.

  • Jason Momoa to Play Lobo in ‘Supergirl’ Movie

Jason Momoa to Play Lobo in ‘Supergirl’ Movie

Aquaman star Jason Momoa is staying in the DC fold. The actor will appear in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow as Lobo, the alien bounty hunter who first appeared in the comics in 1983, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Momoa was the face of the Aquaman franchise for the previous DC regime, appearing as Aquaman in a cameo in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) before starring in Justice League (2017) and then toplining 2018’s Aquaman. The feature was a massive hit, earning $1 billion and marking the high point for the DCEU films, which ended with last year’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. That final film was a letdown, earning just $439 million and failing with critics.

Momoa has long wanted to play the character and has talked about it for years, including during the press rounds for The Lost Kingdom. On Monday, the actor shared a quote from that press tour in which he stated he hoped DC would call him about the role. He captioned the quote on Instagram with, “they called.”

There have been various attempts to bring Lobo to the big screen over the years. Filmmakers such as Guy Ritchie and Brad Peyton both took stabs, with Dwayne Johnson circling the roll for Peyton’s version. In 2018, Warner Bros. and Michael Bay also flirted with the idea, but the concept never got off the ground. On the small screen, Emmett J. Scanlan played Lobo on the SyFy series Krypton.

Writer Roger Slifer and artist Keith Giffen created Lobo for the comic Omega Men No. 3. The blue skinned, cigar chomping alien has superstrength and healing powers, and has fought both heroes and villains.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow arrives in theaters June 26, 2026 and stars Milly Alcock as the hero. It will be the second feature in the new DC Universe overseen by DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran, with Gunn’s Superman movie arriving in July.

Exciting news for DC fans! Jason Momoa has been cast to play the iconic character Lobo in the upcoming ‘Supergirl’ movie.

Known for his roles in ‘Aquaman’ and ‘Game of Thrones,’ Momoa is no stranger to playing larger-than-life characters with a strong presence. Lobo, a ruthless intergalactic bounty hunter, is sure to be a perfect fit for Momoa’s intense and charismatic acting style.
