SURGING SQUADS MEET ON ABC: KNICKS vs. LAKERS TONIGHT

One game back of the Nuggets for 4th place in the West and one win shy of their first 8-2 stretch of the season, the Lakers enter Saturday playing some of their best ball of 2024-25.

The Knicks ride into Saturday on a five-game heater, just 1.5 games back of the Celtics for 2nd-place in the East – a spot Boston has held since October.

Tonight on ABC those two hot streaks will collide at MSG (8:30 ET).

Big Apple Buckets: In their last three outings, the Knicks have totaled 408 points (122, 143, 143) – the most across a three-game stretch in franchise history.

The catalysts? Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns – the first Knicks to both be named All-Star starters in the same season since Walt Frazier & Earl Monroe (1974-75).

    • Combining for 50.5 ppg, Brunson (25.9) and Towns (24.6) are on pace to become the first Knicks tandem to average 50+ points in a season since Willie Naulls and Richie Guerin in 1961-62
    • Their Key To Success? Operating inside, as Brunson ranks 2nd in the NBA in drives this season (18.8 per game) and 4th in ppg off drives (11.9)
    • KAT, meanwhile, ranks 9th in points in the paint with 13.0 ppg – the most since his second NBA season
    • The Result? Closer – and cleaner – looks, as New York ranks 4th in made 2-point field goals (30.6) and 2nd in 2-point FG% (57.1)

While Brunson and Towns lead the charge, the Knicks’ potent offense is equally fueled by their relentless supporting cast, which thrives on turning hustle plays into hard-earned points.

    • Offense To Defense: New York ranks 24th in pace but capitalizes on its opportunities to run better than almost anybody, ranking 3rd in ppg off turnovers (20.0)
    • Creating Chaos: Those caused turnovers stem from three elite defenders – Josh Hart, OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges – who lead the team in steals, respectively
    • “I think we’re at our best when we’re getting turnovers,” said KAT earlier this week. “And we’re having that translate to our offense.”

New York’s starting 5 of Brunson, Bridges, Hart, Anunoby and Towns leads all five-man units in scoring with 47.7 ppg when they’re all on the floor together (min 5 GP). Many of those points come from extra possessions earned by Hart.

    • All Heart: Hart (listed as questionable for tonight) shines on the glass, ranking 2nd in offensive rebounds among guards (105), resulting in 14.3 second-chance ppg for New York
    • All Effort: He’s also recovered 57 loose balls this season, 12 more than the next closest player
    • All-Around Results: Hart entered 2024-25 with six career triple-doubles. Through 47 games this season, he has six more. In those outings, the Knicks are 6-0
    • “I think Josh Hart is the heart and soul of this team,” said Towns earlier this week. “There’s so much more that he does that doesn’t come up on the stat sheet.”

LEBRON TAKES CENTER STAGE AT MSG

For the Lakers, who will be without All-Star center Anthony Davis (abdomen), L.A. will look to a familiar face to lead the way.

One who has done some of his best work at The World’s Most Famous Arena.

For two decades now, NBA all-time leading scorer LeBron James has delivered at MSG, leaving fans of both teams in awe.

Can he deliver again tonight to help keep the Lakers’ hot streak going?

    • The King Of MSG: In 30 career regular-season games at “The Mecca,” James has averaged 28.0 points, 6.9 rebounds and 7.4 assists
    • No other player in NBA history, whether playing for the Knicks or an opponent, has averages of 28/6/6 at MSG
    • James has done it over the course of 21 seasons

Alongside his unprecedented averages at the Garden is a 22-8 record and totals across the board that showcase his legendary all-around game.

And LeBron’s MSG legacy isn’t just about numbers — it’s built on nearly a quarter century of show-stopping moments, from 50-pieces to soaring tomahawks.

Before he takes the floor tonight (8:30 ET, ABC), let’s relive some of his most iconic plays at one of basketball’s most iconic venues.

2009: One year after hanging 50 at MSG, a 24-year-old LeBron took it up a notch, dropping 52 with his raw athleticism on full display.

2013: At the peak of his powers, James submits a dagger vs. New York with a vintage steal and slam. The hangtime, the force, the flair…

2015: And how about breaking down guards before flying up and around bigs for a casual double-clutch finish?

In his latest chapter at the World’s Most Famous Arena, what will the King have in store?

The New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers are set to face off tonight in a highly anticipated matchup that will be broadcast on ABC. Both teams are currently on hot streaks, with the Knicks winning six of their last seven games and the Lakers winning nine of their last ten.

The Knicks, led by All-Star forward Julius Randle, have been one of the biggest surprises of the season so far. Randle has been playing at an MVP level, averaging 23.2 points, 10.9 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game. The Knicks have also been getting strong contributions from RJ Barrett, Derrick Rose, and Immanuel Quickley.

On the other side, the Lakers have been dealing with injuries to key players like LeBron James and Anthony Davis, but have managed to stay afloat thanks to the play of role players like Dennis Schroder and Montrezl Harrell. With James expected to return soon, the Lakers will be looking to build on their recent success and make a push for the top spot in the Western Conference.

Tonight’s game promises to be an exciting and competitive battle between two of the hottest teams in the league. Make sure to tune in to ABC at 8:00 PM ET to catch all the action!

    Streak W12 L2

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia will try and snap its first losing streak of the Darian DeVries era on Wednesday night against one of the hottest teams in the country.

The Mountaineers, losers of two straight to Arizona State and Kansas State, will try and right things against a surging 16-3 Houston team that is ranked sixth in this week’s polls and has won 12 straight games following last Saturday’s 92-86 double-overtime victory at Kansas.

Among Houston’s recent wins is a 70-54 triumph against West Virginia in its arena on Jan. 15.

In that game, Houston sent multiple defenders at Mountaineer guard Javon Small after he scored nine early points, which led to Amani Hansberry contributing a team-best 16, including 12 in a row during one point in the second half. The Mountaineers actually had it to a one-possession game with 12:36 remaining before going ice cold.

Frigid 3-point shooting has also plagued West Virginia in its recent two-game slide.

WVU connected on only 19% of its 21 tries from behind the arc in a 73-60 loss at Kansas State last Saturday, four days after misfiring on 25 of its 29 triples in a 65-57 home defeat to Arizona State.

That’s eight for the last 50 from behind the 3-point line, but DeVries maintains his bigger concern is a defense that allowed Kansas State to score on nearly 56% of its offensive possessions one game after allowing Arizona State to grab 14 offensive rebounds and hold a commanding 46-to-28 advantage on the glass.

Those are things his team managed to avoid up through its 64-57 upset victory over then-second-ranked Iowa State on Jan. 18.

“We had a bad week of shooting, for sure, but it ultimately is still about our defense,” DeVries noted. “On both of those nights, when we didn’t shoot it well, our defense wasn’t what it has been either. Our main issue was those breakdowns defensively, and when we weren’t shooting well, we couldn’t keep up, and that hurt us in both of those.”

Small was terrific against the Cyclones, scoring a game-high 27 points while grabbing seven rebounds, handing out five assists and making four steals. Since then, teams have made stopping him their primary focus while taking their chances with other players with open shots.

“For us, it’s about getting him off the ball some,” DeVries said. “We still need him with the ball in his hands making plays, but they are going to bring two guys to the ball when he has it. Now the one side to that is we have a numbers game on the backside of that. If we get it out of there, which we have, that’s where some of those 3-point opportunities come. You make that one extra pass then you are shooting a wide-open 3, and then it’s a matter of making them.

“And we’re going to do that,” he added. “We didn’t last week, but I have all of the confidence in the world that we will make those shots more than we won’t.”

In both losses, West Virginia (13-6 overall and 4-4 in Big 12 play) dug itself an early hole it couldn’t climb out of, including a 19-2 deficit to begin at Kansas State.

Despite the heavy level of attention, Small was still West Virginia’s leading scorer in both games, including 22 against Kansas State.

“We can’t put it all on Javon,” DeVries pointed out. “We’ve got to continue to get that second scorer and that third scorer on most nights.”

Houston, meanwhile, is getting balanced production across the board. Forward J’Wan Roberts tallied 22 points on 10-of-13 shooting and guard LJ Cryer connected on half of his 10 3-point tries for 18 points the first time these two teams met in Houston.

Last Saturday at Kansas, Roberts hit for 24, while grabbing nine rebounds and handing out five assists.

Cryer was held in check, which opened things up for 6-foot-4 guard Milos Uzan, who just missed a triple-double with 17 points, nine rebounds and nine assists to earn Big 12 Player of the Week honors.

Giving the Cougars a big boost off the bench was 6-foot-1 guard Mylik Wilson, a non-factor in the West Virginia win but a big factor against the Jayhawks. He finished with 18 points on eight-of-11 shooting, including a pair of triples.

Houston’s guards, Cryer, Uzan, Wilson and Emanual Sharp, are basically interchangeable, just like its 6-foot-8 bigs, Roberts, Joseph Tugler and Ja’Vier Francis.

Throw in 6-foot-8 wing Terrance Arceneaux, averaging 8.2 points per game, and you are looking at one of the best eight-man rotations in the country right now.

“Across the board, both offensively and defensively, they have great versatility,” DeVries said. “Then, they go to the bench, and they have another guy who comes in at 6-foot-8 or 6-foot-9 who can run, jump, shoot or whatever it may be.

“They all complement each other really well in the way they play. They can come out and trap a ball screen and really blitz it and be aggressive and get into rotations, or they can just come out and switch it, and they’re fine with that either way,” DeVries continued. “On the offensive end, same type of deal. Their three guards each shoot it at a high, high level, and then they can post it with Roberts, or they bring in offensive rebounders, which is why they are where they are right now.”

Houston’s balanced attack ranges from Cryer’s team-leading 13.5 points per game down to Francis’ 5.4 points per contest coming off the bench. Sharp (13.4 ppg.) and Roberts (11.3 ppg.) are also averaging double figures.

The Cougars have yet to lose in eight Big 12 outings, including comfortable victories over BYU, TCU, Kansas State, West Virginia and Utah.

Wednesday night will be Houston’s first-ever visit to the WVU Coliseum.

The game will tip off at 7 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN+ (Eric Rothman and Tim Welsh).

Mountaineer Sports Network radio coverage with Tony Caridi, Brad Howe and studio host David Kahn will get things started at 6 p.m. on stations throughout West Virginia, online via WVUsports.com and the popular Varsity Network and WVU Gameday apps.

Tickets remain and can be purchased through the Mountaineer Ticket Office by logging on to WVUGAME.com or by calling 1-800-WVU-GAME.

Get ready Mountaineer fans, because the surging Cougars are coming to town! The BYU men’s basketball team will be facing off against West Virginia University in what is sure to be an intense matchup at the WVU Coliseum on Wednesday night.

BYU has been on a hot streak lately, winning their last five games and climbing up the rankings. Led by standout players like Alex Barcello and Caleb Lohner, the Cougars have proven themselves to be a force to be reckoned with.

Meanwhile, the Mountaineers will be looking to defend their home court and come out on top against BYU. With a talented roster featuring players like Taz Sherman and Derek Culver, WVU has the skills and determination to give the Cougars a run for their money.

  • Israel Adesanya wants to ‘throw hands’ with surging middleweight after UFC Riyadh main event

Former UFC champion Israel Adesanya has a big name in mind for a potential post-fight callout if he’s victorious this weekend in Riyadh.

Israel Adesanya will return to the Octagon this Saturday against Nassourdine Imavov in his first non-title fight since UFC 234. He’s looking to snap the first losing skid of his MMA career after back-to-back title defeats to Sean Strickland and Dricus du Plessis.

Adesanya is in a unique spot in the UFC middleweight title picture. For the first time in a long time, he’s on the outside looking in when it comes to the middleweight title mix as he looks to work his back to another potential shot at the belt.

In the meantime, Adesanya’s willingness to face top contenders like Imavov shows his seriousness about getting back to the title. Strickland and du Plessis will square off in a rematch at UFC 312 next month with Khamzat Chimaev likely set for the winner.

Assuming that’s the case, Adesanya doesn’t mind facing another contender should he defeat Imavov this weekend in Riyadh. His target? a Brazilian juggernaut who is quickly approaching title contention.

Israel Adesanya calls out surging Brazilian contender for next fight with a win at UFC Riyadh

In a recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Adesanya called out Caio Borralho for a fight after UFC Riyadh.

“Good style, I like his style,” Adesanya said. “Our interactions have been respectful and cordial. And it’s just f***ing hands, bro. You’re good, I’m good, let’s throw hands and see what’s up. No bad blood or nothing, I just want to test myself against these young guys like Nassourdine Imavov.

“I know the answer, but I want to prove it to myself and find out myself. So we’re going to find out.”

Borralho defeated Adesanya’s UFC 276 rival, Jared Cannonier, in his first UFC main event last August by unanimous decision. He’s unbeaten in the UFC and holds a 16-fight winning streak overall.

Adesanya and Borralho were briefly rumored to clash at UFC 312 in Sydney, but the matchmakers pivoted on booking the fight. A win at UFC Riyadh would set Adesanya up nicely for either a fight with a top contender like Borralho, or other potential options.

Israel Adesanya set for first non-title fight since UFC 234

Adesanya’s return comes after a submission loss to du Plessis at UFC 305 last year. Before the defeat to du Plessis, Adesanya suffered a stunning loss to Strickland to abruptly end his second title stint at UFC 293.

Adesanya would be the toughest test of Borralho’s career, by far, but would be an important step in his pursuit of title contention. Borralho has also defeated the likes of Abus Magomedov and Paul Craig during his UFC tenure.

First thing’s first for Adesanya as he looks to snap his first MMA skid, get back in the win column, and return to the title mix. But a victory this weekend could point him in the direction of facing Borralho or another top middleweight as he looks to potentially return to the throne.

  • No. 15 Oregon men’s basketball aims to remain undefeated away from Eugene against surging Minnesota

Oregon is vying to remain perfect away from Matthew Knight Arena Saturday afternoon at Minnesota, where it has never won.

The No. 15 Ducks (16-3, 5-3 Big Ten) have suffered three home losses but are coming off a win over Washington at MKA on Tuesday and are one of just six Division I teams undefeated in true road games this season. The other five have each lost multiple neutral site games, leaving UO as the only team yet to suffer a loss not on its home court this season.

“We know we’ve obviously dropped a couple at home that we needed to win, so it puts a little bit more emphasis on the road,” forward Brandon Angel said. “Wherever we are, we’re all we got and frankly all we need. When we’re on the road and it’s just us, we’re going to come locked in to every game, prepare the same way we would. The big thing on the road is provide our own energy.”

For Oregon to remain unblemished on Saturday (1 p.m., Big Ten Network) at Williams Arena it will need to beat a suddenly surging Minnesota squad that is coming off back-to-back wins against Michigan and at Iowa. Those wins sent the Golden Gophers (10-9, 2-6) surging from No. 137 to No. 104 in NET, making today’s matchup a Quadrant 2 game on Oregon’s resume, at least for now.

“Old building, really good basketball building,” Oregon coach Dana Altman said. “Those old buildings (are) really noisy and they’re on a roll. Had a big win against Michigan last week and I understand they went to Iowa and won tonight. So we’re going to have a team that’s playing with a lot more confidence than they were a couple of weeks ago and we’re going to have to play awfully well.”

The Ducks have never won in three trips to Minnesota, though the last came in 2001. UO is just 3-6 in the all-time series, with the last meeting in 2002 at Mac Court, a 90-81 Oregon win.

Though the Gophers have also suffered three conference home losses, they’ve fared much better the past week and have one of the conference’s leading scorers in Dawson Garcia (19.1 points, 7.5 rebounds).

Oregon’s success away from home has been fueled by its depth, which was back on display against Washington as well. Five different players have led the Ducks in scoring during their eight games away from Eugene, with Jackson Shelstad having done so three times and TJ Bamba twice.

“I think it speaks to how much we’re together,” Bamba said. “We all bought in and how much we actually like each other.”

The No. 15 Oregon men’s basketball team is gearing up for a tough road test as they take on a surging Minnesota team. The Ducks have been dominant away from Eugene so far this season, boasting an undefeated record on the road.

Oregon will need to bring their A-game against a Minnesota squad that has been playing some of their best basketball as of late. The Golden Gophers have won five of their last six games and are looking to make a statement against a ranked opponent.

The Ducks will rely on their balanced scoring attack and stifling defense to try and come out on top in what promises to be a competitive matchup. With the leadership of head coach Dana Altman and the talent of players like Chris Duarte and Eugene Omoruyi, Oregon is poised to continue their road success.

Fans can expect an exciting game as these two teams battle it out on the court. Will the Ducks be able to maintain their undefeated streak away from home, or will Minnesota pull off the upset? Tune in to find out.

  • How Surging Morgan Geekie Found Groove On Bruins’ Top Line

The Boston Bruins won a tight game against the Ottawa Senators on Thursday night at TD Garden.

Morgan Geekie scored the game-winning goal just 2:06 into the second period for his 13th tally of the season.

The 26-year-old forward struggled at the beginning of the season, but since interim head coach Joe Sacco put Geekie on the top line with David Pastrnak and Pavel Zacha, he’s found his offensive rhythm. He scored six goals in December and five so far in January.

“I think just chemistry. Just going out there and playing,” Geekie told reporters, as seen on NESN’s postgame coverage. “At least for me, a lot less thinking. Just kind of going and playing. We’re all creatures of habit. We like to do the same things all the time. And you get to learn where those guys are all the time and the tendencies they have.”

Geekie scored the opening goal against the New Jersey Devils the night before to extend his goal streak to two games, and David Pastrnak had the primary helper on his goal in the win over the Senators to extend his scoring streak to six games.

“We think we can produce and help the team,” Geekie said. “I think that’s something that we’re trying to take a lot of pride in as a line and be responsible in our own end as well.”

Last season, Geekie had career highs in goals (17), assists (22) and points (39) across 76 games with the Bruins. Geekie has 13 goals, 11 assists and 24 points in 45 games this season. It’s more than likely he will at least eclipse his goal output this season if he keeps the pace up over the last 32 games of the regular season. His 13 tallies put him third on the team behind Pastrnak (24) and Brad Marchand (17).

The Bruins needed to win this game after losing a deflating 5-1 decision to the Devils the night before.

“It’s huge. I mean, it speaks volumes,” Geekie said.”Just how we can play when we play our game and the way we responded, is something we gotta take a lot of pride in. It’s a game we can build off of for sure. … Just play well in our own end, we know the chances will come, obviously. It was a tight game today, but a few of those chances go in for us, and we can open it up. We’re going to do ourselves a lot of favors going down the road.”

    Story continues below advertisement

The Senators outshot the Bruins 30-26, but Boston used their physicality and took the body every chance they had, outhitting Ottawa 27-20.

“We’ve got a lot of big bodies on this team,” Geekie said. “A lot of guys that play heavy but can make plays, and I think that’s something that we sometimes get away from, and we forget what the strengths of our team are. Behind the net is something I think a lot of guys thrive off of, and anytime you can go low to high, get our D-men involved too, it creates chances.”

The Boston Bruins have found a diamond in the rough in center Morgan Geekie, who has quickly become a key player on the team’s top line. Geekie, who was acquired in a trade earlier this season, has been on fire as of late, scoring goals and dishing out assists with ease.

Geekie’s surge in production can be attributed to his strong chemistry with his linemates, as well as his dedication to improving his game. His speed, skill, and hockey IQ have made him a dangerous threat on the ice, and opponents have struggled to contain him.

Bruins fans have quickly taken notice of Geekie’s impressive play, and many are excited to see what he can accomplish as the team makes a push for the playoffs. With Geekie leading the charge on the top line, the Bruins are poised to make a deep run in the postseason.

Overall, Geekie’s success with the Bruins is a testament to his hard work and determination. He has truly found his groove on the top line, and his contributions have not gone unnoticed. Fans can expect to see even more great things from Morgan Geekie in the weeks and months to come.

  • Preview: UVa hosts surging Louisville on Saturday

Preview: UVa hosts surging Louisville on Saturday

Preview: UVa hosts surging Louisville on Saturday

    Louisville (9-5, 2-1 ACC) at Virginia (8-5, 2-1 ACC)

    4pm, ACCN

Virginia returns to action on Saturday, looking to make it two in a row when they host Louisville at JPJ (4pm, ACCN). UVa rallied from 14 down to beat NC State on Tuesday, moving to 1-1 in ACC play heading into the new year.

UVa’s opponent on Saturday is also coming off of a big ACC win. Louisville moved to 9-5 with an impressive home victory over North Carolina, beating the Tar Heels 83-70, moving to 2-1 in ACC play. The Cardinals also have a conference win over FSU, and lost to Duke back in early December. Louisville is in year one of the Pat Kelsey era, having hired him away from Charleston after a successful run there. Kelsey has rejuvenated a dormant Louisville program with transfer portal additions and has put the Cardinals in a much more competitive situation than they have been in recent years.

Louisville played a tough non-conference schedule, and performed relatively well given how much change there has been around the program. The Cardinals scored wins over Indiana (#57 Kenpom) and West Virginia (#45), with their five losses on the season coming to opponents ranked in the top 40 of the Kenpom rankings, with varying degrees of competitiveness.

    The Numbers

The Cardinals go into this weekend’s matchup ranked #54 in Kenpom, 48 spots ahead of Virginia. Kelsey has Louisville playing efficient basketball on both ends, with the Cardinals ranked 49th nationally in offensive efficiency, and 62nd on the defensive end. Louisville’s offense has been quite good in the paint, making 58.1 percent of their two-point field goal attempts, and have an efficient offense despite shooting just 29.5 percent from three, which ranks 312th nationally. They also take a lot of threes, which is a bit odd given how they’re shooting them. The Cards shoot the third most threes nationally, with 52.9 percent of their attempts coming from beyond the arc. Louisville gets to the line quite a bit though, ranking 55th in free throw to field goal rate.

On defense, Louisville has thrived creating takeaways. The Cardinals rank 74th nationally in turnover rate, and 23rd in non-steal turnover rate. Louisville’s opponents are shooting quite well from three, making 35.6 percent of their attempts from deep.

    The Matchups

    Chucky Hepburn, Guard

Louisville’s leading scorer, Hepburn has been an impact transfer addition from Wisconsin. A veteran guard who has played a lot of meaningful basketball, Hepburn has helped turn the Cardinals around, averaging a career high 15.9 points and 5.4 assists per game this season. Hepburn has played in 117 career games and started all but two of them, so UVa will be dealing with one of the most experienced point guards possible on Saturday. Hepburn also comes in hot, after scoring 22 in Wednesday’s win over UNC.

    Terrence Edwards, Guard

After four years at JMU, Terrence Edwards landed with the Cardinals for his final season of college basketball. Edwards is a 6-foot-6 wing from Atlanta that can make plays with the ball in his hand off the dribble, and pulling up for jumpers. Edwards is averaging 14.1 points and 3.6 rebounds per game with the Cardinals, shooting 30.4 percent from three. The former Duke has scored 20+ points in four of his last six games, but had just 7 against the Tar Heels.

    Reyne Smith, Guard

Kelsey brought Reyne Smith with him from Charleston, and the senior guard has made an impact in his new home. Smith, who hails from Tasmania, has averaged double figures scoring in each of his four collegiate seasons, and is scoring a career best 13.4 points per game with the Cards. Smith has done this despite starting just four games, and shooting less than 40% from the field. Smith is a 37.5 percent three point shooter though, taking a whopping nine per game. In three ACC games, Smith has scored 57 points.

    The Outlook

Virginia showed signs of life in the second half of Tuesday’s win against NC State, and earned a much-needed victory in the process. Will that second-half comeback spark some momentum as the Hoos move into January? We’ll see on Saturday.

For UVa fans expecting the Cardinals to be the pushover that they have been lately, be prepared to see a competent Louisville team. Kelsey did a great job adding veteran players that have won a lot of games, and it helped created a culture shift within that program right away. The Cards are far from a finished product, but they have come a long way in a short time.

UVa is at home, and the crowd was a factor in Tuesday’s win. Perhaps that will put the Hoos over the top in this one, but we’re picking the Cardinals to take a close win here. Simply put, Louisville has the better roster, and have done more to demonstrate competitiveness than UVa has to this point.

    The Pick

    Louisville 66

    UVa 63

The University of Virginia Cavaliers are set to host the Louisville Cardinals this Saturday in what promises to be an exciting ACC matchup. Louisville is coming off a string of impressive wins, including a victory over Duke, and will be looking to continue their momentum against the Cavaliers.

On the other hand, UVa is looking to bounce back after a tough loss to Florida State. The Cavaliers will be relying on their strong defense and efficient offense to try and secure a win at home.

Both teams are fighting for a top spot in the ACC standings, so this game is sure to be intense and competitive. Be sure to tune in on Saturday to see which team comes out on top in this highly anticipated matchup.

  • Dogecoin Keeps Surging as Fartcoin Rides AI Hype to All-Time High Price

Dogecoin Keeps Surging as Fartcoin Rides AI Hype to All-Time High Price

Dogecoin is getting hot again, jumping by nearly 11% over the past 24 hours to continue gains from the last couple days—and another meme coin is even hotter, thanks in part to recent hype over AI-related tokens.

DOGE is up to a current price of $0.375, the highest mark seen since December 18 amid a market-wide plunge. Dogecoin has now climbed 18% since the start of 2025, rebounding after falling to below $0.27 on December 20.

The original meme coin saw a surge this fall on the back of prominent fan Elon Musk’s support of Donald Trump on the campaign trail, and then blasted off alongside Bitcoin and other major assets following Trump’s win. DOGE then peaked at $0.48 in December, marking a three-year price high for the asset.

Dogecoin isn’t the only major asset gaining steam Friday. It’s not even the biggest gainer in the top 10 coins by market cap—that honor goes to Cardano, which has jumped 15% on the day to a current price of $1.10.

Bitcoin, by contrast, is up just 1% on the day to $98,275, with Ethereum rising over 3% to nearly $3,600.

Another meme coin in the top 100 cryptocurrencies by market cap is celebrating a fresh milestone Friday, as well, with the recently surging Fartcoin (FARTCOIN) reaching a new all-time high price of $1.53 just a bit ago.

Fartcoin is rising in part due to its association with the AI-driven X account Truth Terminal, which dreamed up the name of the coin before an unknown human created and launched it via Solana meme coin launchpad Pump.fun. It’s now up 57% over the last seven days.

The Solana token surged on Thursday alongside other cryptocurrencies tied to AI agents, the launchpads used to deploy them, and meme coins tied to those agents. The AI + crypto narrative is being hailed by some traders as the latest meta in the space, though it also has prominent detractors.

Dogecoin, the meme-inspired cryptocurrency, continues to surge in popularity and value as it reaches new all-time highs. The digital currency, which features the Shiba Inu dog as its mascot, has seen an incredible surge in price in recent weeks, fueled by celebrity endorsements and social media hype.

But Dogecoin isn’t the only cryptocurrency making waves in the market. Fartcoin, a lesser-known digital currency, has also seen a meteoric rise in price as it rides the wave of AI hype. Fartcoin, which boasts a unique algorithm that uses artificial intelligence to predict market trends, has seen its value soar to new heights as investors flock to the promising technology.

As both Dogecoin and Fartcoin continue to gain traction in the cryptocurrency market, it’s clear that digital currencies are here to stay. Whether you’re a fan of the meme-inspired Dogecoin or the AI-driven Fartcoin, there’s no denying the potential for growth and innovation in the world of cryptocurrency.
