‘Surreal’ To Join Lakers Greats After Scoring Career-High 45 Points
In what felt like a schedule loss for the Los Angeles Lakers heading into an afternoon game on Saturday against the Indiana Pacers, that was not the case. With Austin Reaves giving it a go despite being listed questionable with an elbow injury, he took on the offensive burden with LeBron James and Luka Doncic sidelined.
The Lakers would need all of Reaves’ points as they lacked scoring outside of Rui Hachimura, and the Arkansas native delivered in a big way. He would score a career-high 45 points against a Pacers team that is recently playing good basketball, leading the Lakers to their fifth straight win.
It was an efficient afternoon for the 26-year-old as he shot 14-for-26 from the field and 4-for-9 from distance. To keep the good times rolling, this was a massive win as L.A. looks to Monday with Doncic’s debut looming against the Utah Jazz.
Dealing with a left elbow contusion can certainly affect how a player performs, but Reaves credited the fans and adrenaline for getting him through this game.
“I don’t know,” Reaves said after the Lakers’ 124-117 win. “Like I said out there, I think once you get in the moment of the game, you feel the atmosphere, adrenaline starts pumping, that’s when it becomes easier, but before I woke up this morning it was sore all over, elbow especially, and I think they gotta know at like 60 on the clock if you’re in or out, and I was walking off at like 60:05, and my trainer Shane looked at me and it’s like, well, out or in? And I was like, let’s do it. So, it’s tough. But like I said, once you get out there and start playing, then the adrenaline kicks in and you feel better.”
Reaves’ previous career-high came against the Brooklyn Nets with 38 points when he could not get over the hump to get 40. However, this time around was different coming a 4-for-17 shooting night against the Golden State Warriors.
“I think I started the first quarter and made five shots in a row. Anytime that happens, it’s a good feeling,” he said. “It’s much better than going 4-17. But yeah, that obviously helps. And then, I think it’s just the atmosphere that we’re creating as a team. The culture. Any time now, the situation, the guys on the bench, LeBron [James], Luka [Doncic], Gabe [Vincent], anybody, it’s really good, just telling me to keep going. That’s what I try to do. Just try to go out there and win the game.”
Reaves joins a list of Lakers greats to have at least 45 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in a game that includes Elgin Baylor, Jerry West, Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant and James. As a fan of Bryant, in particular, making that list is special for the 26-year-old.
“I don’t want to get fined or anything, but it’s just it’s surreal, because, like you said, I grew up a Kobe [Bryant] fan. Huge Kobe fan, so I was automatically a Laker fan,” Reaves said. “So just to be able to put the uniform on and go out there and compete, and then, like said, to have a couple of those games to where my name’s in with those guys is special, something that I won’t take for granted. But, yeah, looks weird when you see my name up there.”
By winning five in a row and being 9-1 in their last 10 games, the Lakers are setting themselves up to climb the standings heading into All-Star break. With Doncic and James expected to return against the Jazz, L.A. could become a serious threat in the Western Conference.
Austin Reaves addresses fit concerns with LeBron James & Luka Doncic
Given the magnitude of the pairing of LeBron James and Luka Doncic, many are speculating their fit together in a Lakers jersey. But, Austin Reaves weighed in on those concerns by crediting both players as playmakers rather than pure scorers.

Captain America: Brave New World director Julius Onah has revealed his initial response to seeing Harrison Ford’s Red Hulk on the screen for the first time.
“It’s surreal, it’s incredible, it’s exciting,” Onah told Fandango. “I gotta tell you, when Red Hulk first became a possibility in this film, I just smiled. I was smiling like a kid, and that’s when I knew it was the right idea and right moment to put it out into the world.”
For Onah, however, it’s not just the star power of Ford or the shock value of the Red Hulk that appeals. The director insists it’s also going to prove “relatable” to viewers, as well as really smashing at the heart of Brave New World’s themes.
“The Hulk character is such an expression of pure id, but there’s something about a rage Hulk that’s so relatable and so exciting for an audience as well. But there’s also a real thematic core to the expression of that anger in this film and what it means about the conflict at the centre of this film. It’s not just the inner kid in me who is excited about it, it’s also the director and the storyteller in me who is also excited about where this goes,” Onah said.
As shown off multiple times, including the new Captain America: Brave New World trailer, Ford’s Red Hulk is set to square off against Anthony Mackie’s Captain America in the Marvel Phase 5 film. Ford’s character, President Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross, was recast after the death of William Hurt in 2022.
Speaking to GamesRadar+ at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Ford revealed his own reaction to Red Hulk.
Ford said, “It was based on what I had done and it’s animated so it looked familiar.” Ford jokingly added: “I think my wife thinks I look like that all the time, so it was not that big a deal.”

Captain America: Brave New World director, Steven Spielberg, recently opened up about his experience seeing Harrison Ford’s portrayal of Red Hulk for the first time on set. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Spielberg described the moment as “surreal” and “jaw-dropping.”Spielberg explained that Ford’s transformation into the powerful and intimidating Red Hulk was truly remarkable to witness. He praised Ford’s dedication to the role and the incredible work done by the special effects team to bring the character to life on screen.
The director also shared his excitement about the upcoming film, stating that fans can expect a thrilling and action-packed adventure with Captain America and Red Hulk at the forefront. Spielberg teased that the dynamic between the two characters will be a highlight of the movie, promising epic battles and intense confrontations.
With Spielberg at the helm and Ford’s captivating performance as Red Hulk, Captain America: Brave New World is shaping up to be a must-see blockbuster. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Brian Gutiérrez has waited years for the opportunity to represent the United States at the senior international level. Today, he could finally get it.
The Chicago Fire homegrown star, who is still just 21, was summoned by new head coach Mauricio Pochettino for his first January camp, comprised almost entirely of MLS players. Gutiérrez was among them and is poised to make his senior debut tonight against Venezuela.
Fittingly, it was Gregg Berhalter – Pochettino’s USMNT predecessor and the Fire’s new boss – who broke the news to “Guti” that he would be joining the national team camp in Florida.
“It was a surreal moment,” Gutiérrez told MIR97 Media. “I was really, really surprised. Gregg was the first one to tell me and to congratulate me, and I was really, really happy.”
“I didn’t get the chance to play at U-20 level and the Olympics, so being able to do this at the senior level is a great feeling and I’m really excited.”

Born in the U.S.A.
Gutiérrez was born in Berwyn, just outside Chicago, and he’s dual-eligible for both the United States and Mexico. Uncertainty over his international future – which still remains an open question from an official standpoint – has naturally put a spotlight on his budding career, especially since the Mexican Federation was in touch with his camp last year. However, for the moment, he’s just focused on the U.S., the team he’s played with for his entire youth career.
Though Guti has lived in the Chicago area his whole life, he maintains strong connections on both sides of the border. He even spent some time in Mexico during the offseason visiting family. Even so, relatives from both countries have been quick to congratulate him on the January call-up, especially given how long he’s been trying to earn it.
“I’ve heard from both,” Guti said. “They’ve just been congratulating me and saying they’re really proud of me. Honestly, it was a great feeling for me and my family, and we’re just blessed that I’m here.”
As the 21-year-old is still yet to appear in any form of official international competition at any level, Guti will remain without a cap tie for now, even if he plays in both matches this week. Nonetheless, all indications are that he’s the Americans’ player to lose, particularly considering that he has been in the U.S. system since he was 15.

Poch Watch
The USMNT‘s new head coach, Pochettino, has been a key talking point since he took over the team in September. Comments suggesting that he would not be afraid to call up MLS players bring a whole new meaning to the January Camp setting that had slowly been fading in relevance over the years.
With top-flight experience at some of the biggest clubs in the world, such as Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, and Southampton, Pochettino carries one of the more impressive managerial résumés in world soccer. His players have been quick to compliment his managerial talent, citing that coaching methods and strategies are dramatically different from what they were under previous head coaches.
“It’s been really good, just enjoying and learning from him,” Gutiérrez said of Pochettino, “hearing what he has to offer for the team, what he wants from the team, and what he wants from each individual. And yeah, obviously learning from him because he’s a really, really top coach, which is what you want. At the end of the day I came here to learn and see what he wants and play to the best of my ability.”

Keys to the Midfield?
Given the traditional “Camp Cupcake” nature of the USMNT’s annual January convocation, Gutiérrez has a huge opportunity to make his mark in this pair of fixtures. Officially, only four midfielders were listed on Pochettino’s roster, meaning Gutiérrez could play substantial minutes in his preferred central #10 position. He could also find minutes on the wing, given that he has far more MLS experience than any of the other forwards listed, though the head coach has suggested the idea of using fullbacks in the attack, too.
“I believe that here we have players at this camp like Diego Luna, Matko (Miljević), and Guti, that can play more through the middle,” Pochettino said in his pregame press conference. “Perhaps those players are more central, who prefer to move inside. Then we have other players like Caden Clark or Indy (Vassilev), who are more about staying wide. And maybe when they play in that position, we’ll have a fullback who doesn’t push up as much or who attacks more inside rather than outside.”
It’s possible that Gutiérrez will split minutes with Luna, who is in his second USMNT camp. The Real Salt Lake attacker has played with Guti at the U-20 level, though neither went to the Olympics in France last year; Luna was invited as an alternate but declined. The likes of Caden Clark and Matko Miljević will also compete for minutes out wide, and position out on the left is something Guti is also comfortable playing.

“Surreal” Moment to Come
No active Chicago Fire player has appeared for the U.S. in a senior-level international match since Djordje Mihailović all the way back in 2019. That will change the moment Guti steps on the field for the Stars and Stripes. It will be a moment he’s waited many years for having climbed the youth ranks in the U.S. system since the U-16 age group.
“It’s honestly going to be a really surreal moment,” Gutiérrez said of his looming debut, “but at the same time, it’s a game at the end of the day. I’m just going out there to show my best abilities and what I have to offer to this team, and hopefully, make the most out of my opportunity, which I’m doing.”
With a CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament coming up in the summer and the 2026 FIFA World Cup on home soil less than 18 months away, Guti doesn’t have a ton of time to waste. The opportunity this January is massive, so if he can prove to be a standout, he could finally break into a senior team pool that is crying out for more attacking depth.
“Obviously, you put (the World Cup) on your list of what you want to do as a player. And that is up there for me.”

NEW ORLEANS — Jeremi Sensky was returning to his hotel after meeting friends in the early hours on New Year’s Day when he heard a “massive noise” — the last thing he remembers before ending up facedown on the ground with his wheelchair smashed around him.
Sensky survived the fatal terror attack on Bourbon Street on Wednesday morning, where a Texas man inspired by ISIS rammed a truck into a crowd of revelers celebrating in New Orleans’ French Quarter. He spoke to NBC News from his hospital room, where he is recovering with two broken legs.
“I’m assuming I got hit by the truck, but honestly, nobody’s ever told me that, so I don’t know,” Sensky said. “But my wheelchair was completely bashed and the pieces were all over the place, so something hit me.”
For more on this story, watch “NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt” tonight at 6:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. CT, or “Top Story with Tom Llamas” on NBC News Now.
According to the FBI, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, made his way to Louisiana from his home in Texas on New Year’s Eve and posted several videos to social media. Jabbar said in the videos he had originally planned to hurt his family and friends, but pivoted to a bigger attack to focus on the “war between the believers and the disbelievers.”
He drove a rented Ford F-150 onto the sidewalk into a crowd — swerving through barriers and police — before dying in a gunfight with officers. The attack killed 14 people and injured dozens of others.
Sensky was right by the Jabbar’s truck after he plowed into the crowd.
Survivor Jeremi Sensky spoke to NBC News from his hospital room, where he is recovering with two broken legs. NBC News Everything happened so quickly, he said. One moment he was turning around and the next he was on the ground in the middle of the sound of gunfire coming in different directions.
“I just heard screaming and I heard gunfire,” he recalled.
He couldn’t find his phone, so Sensky began screaming for help.
“No one would come, and so I pushed myself on my back, and I saw people, and they were taking pictures from the balcony, and I was screaming out for help and people were just looking at me,” Sensky said.
A cop named Patrick eventually walked over to him and explained that many people were dead, Sensky recalled. The officer told Sensky that he “was lucky to be alive.”
“I kept asking for someone to help me and get me out of there and it took a while,” Sensky said. “I realized that it was a bad scene.”
Sensky, who was paralyzed from the waist down prior to the attack, doesn’t believe that anyone realized he couldn’t walk as they took in the chaos of the scene. Eventually, he was carried to an ambulance and taken to the hospital where he underwent surgery.
His right leg was broken in a “million pieces,” but Sensky also said it saved him.
Sensky told NBC News that the entire experience has been “surreal.” He teared up when talking about the attack, emotional in his disbelief that anyone could do such a thing.
“I love everybody. Everybody,” Sensky said. “I can’t believe that that would happen.”
Tom Llamas reported from New Orleans. Doha Madani reported from New York City.

Better Man review – Robbie Williams becomes CGI chimp in surreal biopic | Movies
Robbie Williams – only he is a chimp! This is a pretty trad music biopic, coming with the accepted U-shaped narrative arc of humble beginnings, big break, superstardom, drugs, drink, shallow sex, dark-night-of-the-soul slump and redemptive comeback, here topped off with an unendurably protracted performance of My Way at the Royal Albert Hall in London. But the whole thing is given a cheeky high-concept twist by portraying the singer as an ape – a shrieking, scowling, capering CGI chimp – while all around are humans. Actor Jonno Davies plays the part in motion capture and Williams himself supplies the voiceover.
The idea supposedly comes from Williams’s fear that he is immature and unevolved, stranded emotionally for ever at the age he became famous: 15. And this chimp figure runs counter to his 2001 song Better Man, with its poignant, maybe Darwinian yearning for improvement: “As my soul heals the shame/I will grow through this pain/Lord, I’m doing all I can/To be a better man.”
But, of course, it is an outrageous existential humblebrag – as a chimp, Robbie is superior to the boring humanoids: funnier, crazier, braver and more charismatic. Steve Pemberton plays Robbie’s unreliable old dad, Peter, a heartbreakingly unsuccessful Sinatra-adjacent lounge singer who broke Robbie’s heart by abandoning his family but inspired Robbie with a complicated Oedipal need to prove himself, imitate him, gain his attention and surpass him. Alison Steadman plays his adored nan, who always believed in him. Jake Simmance is Gary Barlow, whose songwriting professionalism earns Robbie’s grudging respect.
We see young chimpy Robbie audition for hatchet-faced promoter Nigel Martin-Smith (Damon Herriman) to join Take That – and the screenplay from Simon Gleeson, Oliver Cole and Michael Gracey gives Williams’s voiceover some carefully droll material about the enduring need to be quite polite about Martin-Smith for legal reasons. As Martin-Smith, Herriman has the funniest line; over dinner, he tells the fresh-faced band to look around the table. “In five years’ time we’ll all hate each other – but we’ll be rich!”
That is not quite what happens. Robbie’s substance-abusing antics get him expelled from the band; and he makes a bid for solo stardom with the help of his new girlfriend, Nicole Appleton (Raechelle Banno), while eaten up with jealousy for her band All Saints and their No 1 single. Songwriter Guy Chambers (Tom Budge) unlocks Robbie’s inner talent – and here again there is some interesting, legally constrained joking about Robbie and Guy going on beach holidays together. Robbie is fascinated and woundedly envious of Oasis’s colossal success and yearns for a massive Knebworth show of his own – and for his dad to love him.
It is all watchably performed, but the chimp idea is not explored any further than simply making Robbie look like a chimp. We are not leading up to any Statue of Liberty on the beach moment; he just does what he would do anyway. As you gradually get used to him resembling a chimp, the ironising and surreal effect wears off, and the chimp face looks weirdly less compelling than Robbie’s vivid face, seen in pictures over the closing credits. The film is interestingly candid about the toxic, driving force of envy behind a musical career – something many music biopics omit – but in the end, however initially startling and amusing, Robbie-as-chimp feels like a distraction from his all-too-human unhappiness and talent.
Robbie Williams is known for his charismatic performances and larger-than-life personality, but in the new biopic Better Man, he takes on a whole new level of transformation. In this surreal film, Williams stars as a CGI chimp who embarks on a journey of self-discovery and redemption. The film follows the story of a chimp named Charlie, who is struggling to find his place in the world. After a series of misadventures, Charlie meets a group of eccentric characters who help him navigate the complexities of life. Along the way, he learns valuable lessons about love, friendship, and what it truly means to be a better man.
Williams delivers a surprisingly poignant performance as Charlie, bringing depth and emotion to the character despite his animated appearance. His comedic timing is impeccable, and he infuses the role with a sense of vulnerability that is both endearing and relatable.
The film’s visuals are stunning, with vibrant colors and imaginative set designs that create a whimsical and dreamlike atmosphere. The CGI effects are seamless, seamlessly blending Williams’ performance with the animated world around him.
Better Man is a unique and captivating film that pushes the boundaries of what is possible in storytelling. Williams’ transformation into a CGI chimp is a bold and daring choice that pays off, resulting in a truly unforgettable cinematic experience.
Overall, Better Man is a triumph for Williams and a testament to his versatility as an actor. It’s a surreal and thought-provoking film that will leave audiences both entertained and moved. Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind biopic that is sure to become a classic in its own right.
