  • Philadelphia Eagles Gift Super Bowl Tickets to Survivor of New Orleans Attack

The Philadelphia Eagles are taking a very special guest with them to the Super Bowl in New Orleans.

On Jan, 30, the Eagles shared a video of the moment that defensive end Brandon Graham told Ryan Quigley, a longtime super fan of the team who was injured in the New Year’s Attack in New Orleans, that he was going to the big game on Feb. 9.

Quigley was injured in the attack and tragically, his best friend Tiger Bech was one of the 14 people killed on Bourbon Street that day.

The Eagles invited Quigley to their facility to give him the big news, where he told Graham that he had promised Bech, who he would attend games with, that he would take him to the Super Bowl if the Eagles returned.

“He would love nothing more than to be there,” an emotional Quigley said of his late friend.

“And I’m going to make sure he’s there with us, you know? I’m sharing his story,” Quigley added. “That’s my calling.”

Bech’s sister, Ginnie, was also invited to join Quigley at the Eagles facility, where she shed tears and said that “such a negative memory” has turned into a “really beautiful and cool” way to honor her brother’s life. “It’s really meant so much,” she added.

“We’re going to go back to New Orleans and leave on a positive note from that city, given that Tiger’s from there and that I promised him I was going bring him down to the Super Bowl,” Quigley told College Sports Only after the visit to the Eagles facility.

According to CBS, Graham said it “means a lot” that Quigley will return to New Orleans to support the Eagles in the Super Bowl.

“I know he said in his mind he didn’t want to go back to New Orleans because of what happened … And I know for me, I wanted to change that for him to conquer his fears.”

The Eagles will face the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2025 Super Bowl on Feb. 9, in a rematch of the 2023 game.

Quigley and Bech were on Bourbon Street on Jan. 1 when a pickup truck plowed through the streets, killing 14 people and injuring many more.

The Philadelphia Eagles have made a heartwarming gesture by gifting Super Bowl tickets to a survivor of a recent attack in New Orleans. The recipient, who wishes to remain anonymous, was a victim of a violent assault that left them hospitalized and facing a long road to recovery.

In a statement released by the Eagles organization, they expressed their sympathy for the survivor and their family, and their desire to bring some joy and positivity into their lives during this difficult time. The team hopes that attending the Super Bowl will provide a much-needed distraction and opportunity for the survivor to create new, positive memories.

This act of kindness and generosity is a reminder of the power of sports to bring people together and uplift those in need. The Eagles’ gesture is a shining example of compassion and support, and we applaud them for their thoughtfulness. Let’s hope that this gift brings some comfort and joy to the survivor as they continue on their journey to recovery.

  • Eagles invite survivor of Bourbon Street attack back to New Orleans for Super Bowl LIX: ‘Not letting evil win’

Former Princeton football player Ryan Quigley was seriously injured and lost his best friend and fellow teammate, Tiger Bech, in the violent terrorist attack in New Orleans on January 1. But Quigley will have the opportunity to write that tragic story when he returns next weekend as an honorary guest of the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles invited Quigley and Bech’s sister to attend their divisional round game against the Los Angeles Rams last month, but this week they invited him to their training facility with the intention of surprising him with Super Bowl LIX tickets.

“We want to tell you the real reason we brought you here,” Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham said in a video shared by the team. “It’s okay if you’re not feeling it, but we would love to have you down for the Super Bowl.”

This year’s Super Bowl will be hosted by the city of New Orleans. It will take place just a little over a month after the attack. Quigley will return to the city, something he vowed never to do again.

“New Year’s Eve was my first time in New Orleans ever, it was my first night, and I told myself it was going to be the last,” he told the team’s website. “But then I thought about it, because all year I’ve been telling Tiger if the Eagles make the Super Bowl this year, I promised him I was going to take him, and he’s from Louisiana.”

Quigley, 26, suffered broken bones in his leg, back and face and underwent surgery and several days in the hospital to recover from a horrific terror attack on Bourbon Street that killed 14 people and injured dozens more.

“Everything that the Eagles have done from being around the facilities today and the Divisional Round, to helping us share his story, there’s no words to describe it. We’re forever grateful to have the opportunity to tell the rest of the world how special Tiger was.”

The survivor, who wishes to remain anonymous, was caught in the crossfire during the senseless act of violence that took place in the iconic French Quarter.

The Eagles organization reached out to the survivor, expressing their desire to show support and solidarity during this difficult time. The survivor, who is a die-hard Eagles fan, was overwhelmed with gratitude for the invitation and eagerly accepted.

In a statement released by the Eagles, they expressed their commitment to standing with the survivor and not letting evil win. They emphasized the importance of coming together as a community to support those affected by such tragedies and to spread love and positivity in the face of darkness.

  • Gujarat riots survivor and legal crusader Zakia Jafri dies at 86 | Ahmedabad News

Zakia Jafri, widow of former Congress MP Ahsan Jafri and survivor of the Gulberg Society massacre which followed the Godhra train burning incident on February 27, 2002, died in Ahmedabad Saturday following age-related issues. She was 86.

Zakia, who was with her US-based daughter Nishrin in Ahmedabad, passed away around 11.30 am, confirmed her son Tanveer, who lives in Surat. She is likely to be laid to rest beside her husband in Ahmedabad.

Nishrin was inconsolable when The Indian Express tried to reach her.

    Story continues below this ad

Till 2023, Zakia regularly visited the remains of her home in Gulberg Society on the anniversary of the massacre. Having fought a long-drawn legal battle against the Gujarat government since 2006, she had become the face of the fight for justice for the victims of the post-Godhra riots.

In 2022, the Supreme Court dismissed her plea challenging the clean chit given by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to then Gujarat chief minister and now Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several others in the 2002 Gujarat riots.

    Festive offer

Ahsan Jafri was among the 68 killed inside the gated Gulberg Society in the Chamanpura area of Ahmedabad on February 28, 2002. In 2006, Zakia submitted a complaint stating that the police had not registered a complaint against Modi and other top politicians in connection with the violence.

Her call for justice led the Supreme Court to order a re-investigation into the nine big riot cases including the Gulberg Society case by an SIT which eventually filed a closure report in 2012.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Zakia Jafri, a survivor of the 2002 Gujarat riots and a tireless legal crusader for justice. Jafri, 86, passed away in Ahmedabad, leaving behind a legacy of strength, resilience, and unwavering dedication to seeking justice for the victims of the horrific violence that swept through the state.

Despite facing unimaginable loss and trauma during the riots, Jafri never wavered in her pursuit of justice. She filed a complaint against top politicians and police officials, accusing them of complicity in the violence that claimed the lives of hundreds of innocent people, including her husband Ehsan Jafri. Her legal battle spanned nearly two decades, culminating in a Supreme Court verdict that upheld the clean chit given to the then Chief Minister Narendra Modi and others.

Jafri’s fight for justice inspired many and her courage in the face of adversity will always be remembered. Her passing is a great loss to the human rights movement in India and serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle for accountability and justice for the victims of communal violence.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Zakia Jafri’s family and loved ones during this difficult time. May her legacy continue to inspire future generations to stand up for truth and justice.

  • Marianne Faithfull, a Pop Star Turned Survivor, Is Dead at 78

Marianne Faithfull, who went from being a fresh-faced, feather-voiced pop star, as well as muse and girlfriend of Mick Jagger, to a homeless heroin addict, only to re-emerge radically altered in her early 30s as a critically acclaimed cabaret performer singing songs of dark honesty, died on Thursday in London. She was 78.

Her death was confirmed by a spokesperson, who did not cite a cause.

The roiling dramas in Ms. Faithfull’s life, along with the starry circles she moved in during the Swinging Sixties and the unvarnished power of her later music, turned her into a nearly mythic figure — a symbol of survival and transformation. It’s a role she at first rued but later came to relish.

“What I’ve been trying to do, and I think I’ve done it rather well, is bring the persona — or what was a false persona in the beginning — and me together,” she told the British newspaper The Independent in 2008.

But the road to get there was long and perilous. It involved a miscarriage, the temporary loss of her only child in a custody battle, a suicide attempt, several stints in rehab and a 1967 drug arrest — also involving the Rolling Stones — whose salacious and sometimes erroneous details generated reams of heated headlines in Britain.

Still, when Ms. Faithfull finally found a bold new path for her music, starting in 1979 with the new-wave-influenced album “Broken English,” she earned the kind of broad respect she had never before enjoyed, inspired by the brutal truth of her material and the scarred gravity of her voice.

“I’ve got the right voice for me,” she told The Independent of her new sound. “It gives an edge to everything.

“I don’t have to act out,” she continued. “I just have to open my mouth and there it is.”

Over the years, Ms. Faithfull maintained a parallel if fitful acting career in theater, television and film. She made her stage debut in 1967 in a London production of Chekhov’s “Three Sisters,” co-starring Glenda Jackson. That same year she had a major role in “I’ll Never Forget What’s’isname,” in which she earned the distinction of being the first person to utter the “f” word in a major studio film.

The next year she had the glamorous title role in “The Girl on a Motorcycle,” opposite Alain Delon. In 1969, she played the doomed Ophelia in a well-regarded film version of “Hamlet,” starring Nicol Williamson. Her lead role as a conflicted 60-year-old prostitute in the 2007 French film “Irina Palm” earned her a nomination for best actress at the European Film Awards.

In addition to the more than 20 albums she released, Ms. Faithfull contributed lyrics, or inspiration, for some classic Rolling Stones songs. Mr. Jagger based the words to “Sympathy for the Devil” in part on the Russian novel “The Master and Margarita,” by Mikhail Bulgakov, which she had given him. She also uttered the phrase that inspired the key lyrical refrain in “Wild Horses” (“Wild horses couldn’t drag me away”) and co-wrote “Sister Morphine,” which she released as a solo single in 1969, two years before the Stones’ version appeared on the album “Sticky Fingers.” (Though Ms. Faithfull received writer credit on her own recording of the song, she didn’t earn parallel status on the Stones album until 1994, after a long legal battle.)

Marianne Evelyn Gabriel Faithfull was born in the Hampstead area of London on Dec. 29, 1946, to a family whose rare history presaged her own.

Her father, Robert Glynn Faithfull, had been a British spy during World War II and later a literature professor at the University of London. Inspired by what Ms. Faithfull often described as an eager appetite for the erotic, her father invented a device meant to liberate female sexuality, which he named the “Frigidity Machine.” Her mother, Eva von Sacher-Masoch, was a Viennese baroness, an ex-ballet dancer and a descendant of Leopold von Sacher-Masoch, author of the erotic novel “Venus in Furs,” which spawned the term masochism.

“It was a colorful upbringing,” Ms. Faithfull told Saga magazine in 2007. “And I dare say I have traits from both my parents.”

But her parents’ marriage was over by the time Marianne was 6, and she moved with her mother, who had little money of her own, to a modest house in Reading, west of London. Her education at a Roman Catholic convent school was subsidized by charity.

Instead of going to college, she began venturing into London clubs to explore the exploding underground art and music scene. She also scored the occasional gig singing folk songs in local coffeehouses.

At a 1964 party for the Rolling Stones, she was approached by their manager, Andrew Loog Oldham, who was drawn by her beauty. “He asked me, ‘Can you sing?’ And I said, ‘Mm-mm, I can,” she said in a 2005 interview on NPR. “About a week later, I got a telegram from Andrew saying, ‘Be at Olympic Studios at 2 o’clock.’”

There she recorded her first track, “As Tears Go By,” often said to be the first original composition by Mr. Jagger and Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones, which until then had mostly performed blues and R&B covers. The recording, with its wan English-horn hook and wistful lyrics, “was a very strange song for two 21-year-old boys to write and a stranger one for an 18-year-old girl to sing,” Ms. Faithfull told The Daily News of New York in 1987.

Still, the single became a Top 10 hit in Britain in 1964 while also breaking into Billboard’s Top 25 in the United States. In his introduction to a photo-driven book about her, “A Life on Record” (2014), Salman Rushdie described the young Ms. Faithfull, with wry affection, as having “the voice of a slightly zoned-out chorister.”

She racked up three more Top 10 hits in Britain in 1965, “Come and Stay with Me” (No. 4), “This Little Bird” (No. 6) and “Summer Nights” (No. 10).

For her album debut, her label, Decca, issued two simultaneous releases. One, simply titled “Marianne Faithfull,” concentrated on her pop songs, while the other, “Come My Way,” consisted mainly of traditional folk pieces and rose to No. 12 on the British charts, three positions higher than its companion.

At the age of 19, in 1965, Ms. Faithfull married John Dunbar, owner of the hip Indica Gallery, where John Lennon would meet Yoko Ono the next year. Six months after they wed, she gave birth to their son, Nicholas. Not long after, she left her husband to live with Mr. Jagger, and Nicholas was sent to her mother to raise. (The Dunbars didn’t formally divorce until 1970.)

Ms. Faithfull and Mr. Jagger became one of London’s most glamorous, and photographed, couples; they also became one of its most notorious after the police raided a party in 1967 at Keith Richards’s home, searching for drugs. They found them, along with Ms. Faithfull, with only a fur rug wrapped around her.

Mr. Jagger and Mr. Richards were charged and received sentences that were later dismissed. Though Ms. Faithfull was not charged, she fumed about the unequal treatment she received in the press. “It destroyed me,” she told Details magazine in 1993. “To be a male drug addict and to act like that is always enhancing and glamorizing. A woman in that situation becomes a slut and a bad mother.”

Ms. Faithfull tried to have a child with Mr. Jagger in 1968 but suffered a miscarriage. At the end of that year, she appeared on the television special “The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus,” performing the song “Something Better” while looking quite the worse.

In 1969, while on a plane with Mr. Jagger to Australia, where he was to star in the western film “Ned Kelly,” a distraught Ms. Faithfull took more than 100 pills of the barbiturate Tuinal, sending her into a coma. “It’s very bad form to try and kill yourself when you’re with Mick Jagger,” she dryly told The Telegraph in 2011.

When she emerged from the coma in an Australian hospital six days later, her first words were reportedly “Wild horses couldn’t drag me away.” But the relationship was over. “I just wanted out of that world,” she told Saga. “It wasn’t that I didn’t love Mick. But I wasn’t cut out for all that.

“It’s a great honor to be a muse,” she added, but “that’s a very hard job.”

For two years, Ms. Faithfull lived on the streets of London, where she slipped into heroin addiction. She also lost custody of her son to Mr. Dunbar. “I wanted to disappear completely,” she told The Telegraph.

A record producer coaxed her into making an album, “Rich Kid Blues,” in 1971, but it was not released until 1985. An admired country-influenced album she recorded in 1975, “Dreamin’ My Dreams,” reached No. 1 in Ireland.

Around that time she became romantically involved with Ben Brierley of the punk band the Vibrators. They married in 1979. She also began recording demos featuring some of the songs that would end up on “Broken English.” The recordings greatly impressed Chris Blackwell of Island Records, and he signed her.

While Ms. Faithfull’s drug and alcohol use had lowered her voice by several octaves and caused it to crack in places, the new sound gave her an unforeseen character and depth, suggesting a hip answer to Lotte Lenya or a punk Marlene Dietrich. The material on “Broken English” followed suit, with literate songs about terrorism and a suicidal housewife, as well as the curse-strewn epic “Why D’Ya Do It?” (with words by the poet Heathcote Williams).

The album not only thrilled critics; it was also her first to make the U.S. charts since 1965. It earned platinum status and a Grammy nomination for best female rock vocal performance.

Still, Ms. Faithfull’s drug days were not yet behind her. She didn’t clean up until 1985, after which her music took another fascinating turn, revealed on the 1987 album “Strange Weather,” produced by Hal Willner. It repositioned her as an esteemed gothic cabaret artist singing material ranging from show tunes to blues classics to the title track, a new song written by Tom Waits and his wife, Kathleen Brennan. She also included a fresh version of “As Tears Go By” — a far more consequential one than the original, better suited to the lyrics.

By then, Ms. Faithfull had divorced Mr. Brierley and, in 1988, married a younger man, Giorgio Della Terza. They divorced three years later, after which she began to record prolifically, to critical acclaim. In quick succession, during the mid-1990s, she released a richly orchestrated album produced by Angelo Badalamenti, “A Secret Life”; a spare live collection of mainly Weimar Republic songs, “20th Century Blues”; and a take on Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill’s “The Seven Deadly Sins,” recorded with the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Starting with “Kissin Time” in 2002, Ms. Faithfull released a series of albums on which she collaborated with a wide range of respected younger admirers, including Beck, Jarvis Cocker, PJ Harvey and Nick Cave. She continued to tour and record in later years; a well-reviewed 2018 album, “Negative Capability,” included yet another version of “As Tears Go By” and made the British Top 50. Her last album, released in 2021, was “She Walks in Beauty,” a collaboration with the multi-instrumentalist Warren Ellis.

In recent years Ms. Faithfull successfully battled breast cancer and hepatitis C, both of which she wrote about in her 2007 memoir, “Memories, Dreams and Reflections” — a more sanguine effort than her first, “Faithfull,” published 13 years earlier — and, later, Covid-19. In 2011, she was named a Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French government.

She is survived by her son, Nicholas Dunbar, and three grandchildren.

Throughout the many roller-coaster twists of her life, Ms. Faithfull remained committed both to addressing them frankly in interviews and to transforming them into art.

“I don’t know how else to be but raw and honest,” she told British Vogue in 2014. “It may be hard for other people to take. But even if I try to, I can’t stop myself from saying what I think.”

    Ash Wu contributed reporting.

  • Sherri Papini’s Alleged Ex Shauhin Davari Joins Survivor 48 Cast

Shauhin Davari, who allegedly dated Sherri Papini before her kidnapping hoax, is now a cast member on Survivor.

Davari, 38, is one of the season 48 contestants, with the full cast list being announced by CBS on Wednesday, January 29. He is best known for past comments about dating Papini, 42, before she made headlines for a kidnapping hoax. Papini disappeared on November 2, 2016 after going for a jog in her California neighborhood and resurfaced 22 days later, which is when she claimed she had been beaten and branded by captors.

As new details emerged following her return, Papini was ultimately arrested in 2022 for orchestrating her abduction. She pleaded guilty to a federal judge later that year and was sentenced to 18 months in jail for committing mail fraud and lying to a federal officer about being kidnapped.

“[I am] so sorry for the pain I’ve caused my family, my friends, all the good people who needlessly suffered because of my story and those who worked so hard to try to help me,” Papini said in a statement at the time about how “deeply ashamed” she was of her actions. “I will work the rest of my life to make amends for what I have done.”

Papini was also ordered to pay more than $300,000 in restitution for losses incurred by the California Victim Compensation Board, the Social Security Administration, the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. She was released from prison in August 2023.

Davari, for his part, called Papini a “compulsive liar” while discussing their alleged romance in 2022. (Papini didn’t address his comments at the time.)

“I was like, there’s no way [she was kidnapped]. She’s fine. I promise you, she’s fine. There’s just no chance that she got kidnapped,” he told Inside Edition. “She would not talk to you for three or four days, and then all of a sudden there’d be some fantastical story about what happened.”

Davari spoke out to shut down rumors he was the ex-boyfriend Papini planned the hoax with, who turned out to be James Reyes. The case recently became a topic of conversation again when Hulu released Perfect Wife: The Mysterious Disappearance of Sherri Papini in June 2024.

Sherri’s now-ex-husband Keith Papini and several of her family members and loved ones participated in the docuseries. Law enforcement also broke down how they ultimately pieced together the clues that pointed to a kidnapping hoax.

One month after Perfect Wife started streaming, Investigation Discovery announced an upcoming docuseries in which Sherri will speak out for the first time about the controversy. The show will debut in 2025.

“Sherri Papini drew worldwide attention when she went missing and then again, when she returned. While many perspectives have been told, there is one point of view that the world hasn’t heard and that is from Sherri herself,” President of ID Jason Sarlanis said in a statement in June 2024. “Investigation Discovery will present a new side of Sherri Papini’s case — told by her in her own words.”

In a shocking turn of events, Sherri Papini’s alleged ex-husband Shauhin Davari has joined the cast of Survivor 48. Davari, who has been in the spotlight recently due to his connection to the mysterious disappearance of Papini in 2016, is sure to bring some drama to the reality TV show.

Fans of Survivor are already buzzing about Davari’s inclusion in the cast, with many speculating about how his past relationship with Papini will play out on the show. Will Davari use this platform to clear his name and tell his side of the story? Or will his presence only add fuel to the fire surrounding Papini’s disappearance?

One thing is for certain – Survivor 48 is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing seasons yet. Stay tuned for more updates on Shauhin Davari’s journey on the island and how his past with Sherri Papini will impact the game.

  • Man Who Claimed He Dated Sherri Papini Now a Cast Member on ‘Survivor 48’

A man who says he dated Sherri Papini, describing her in a 2022 interview as a “compulsive liar,” is now on the cast of Survivor 48.

Shauhin Davari, 38, was announced as one of the contestants on the show set to premiere next month, Entertainment Weekly reported.

Davari, a debate professor from East Bay, Calif., told Inside Edition in 2022 that he previously dated Papini. In 2016, Papini became a household name after she disappeared for 22 days during a jog in Redding, Calif. She was found on the street with bruises on her face and had been “branded,” her husband Keith Papini said at the time.

Papini claimed she had been kidnapped by two Hispanic women.

However, a years-long investigation found that she had faked her own kidnapping and was hiding in an ex-boyfriend’s house; that man later told police that she had asked him to hit her. When he refused, she bruised herself.

While this revelation shocked many, including her own husband, Davari was not surprised, he told Inside Edition after her 2022 arrest.

“I was like, there’s no way. She’s fine. I promise you she’s fine. There’s just no chance that she got kidnapped,” he said.

He claimed Papini was a “compulsive liar” — and he had his suspicions when he first heard about her kidnapping that later turned out to be a hoax.

“She would not talk to you for three or four days, and then all of a sudden there’d be some fantastical story about what happened,” Davari claimed.

At the time, Davari said he was speaking out to dispel rumors that he was the ex-boyfriend and Papini had colluded with him.

  • ‘Survivor 48’ contestant Shauhin Davari is the ex of Sherri Papini

It’s a small world, after all.

A contestant on the new season of “Survivor” allegedly dated Sherri Papini, the California woman who was sentenced to 18 months in prison for faking her kidnapping in Sept. 2022.

Shauhin Davari was announced as one of the 18 people competing on “Survivor 48,” premiering Feb. 26, by CBS on Wednesday.

    “Survivor 48” contestant Shauhin Davari.

Davari is a 38-year-old debate professor who lives in Costa Mesa, Calif.

But the most shocking fact about Davari is his past connection to Papini.

    Sherri Papini.

In 2016, Papini disappeared for 22 days while allegedly on a jog in Redding, Calif. When she resurfaced, she claimed she was kidnapped by two masked Hispanic women.

However, after a years-long investigation, authorities discovered that Papini orchestrated the kidnapping with her ex-boyfriend. She was arrested in 2022 and released from prison in Aug. 2023.

After the truth about Papini came out, Davari revealed in a 2022 interview with Inside Edition that they allegedly dated when she was 20 and he was 15.

“She’s a compulsive liar,” Davari said about Papini. “She would not talk to you for three or four days, and then all of a sudden there’d be some fantastical story about what happened.”

Davari claimed Papini told several lies when they dated, including that she surfed and had a heart condition. He also said he didn’t believe the initial news that she was kidnapped.

“I was like, there’s no way. She’s fine. I promise you she’s fine. There’s just no chance that she got kidnapped,” he said.

Davari also clarified to Inside Edition that he wasn’t the ex-boyfriend who helped Papini commit the kidnapping hoax.

Shauhin Davari in an Instagram photo.

To pull off the crime, one of Papini’s exes, a man named James Reyes, helped her escape her home in Redding to hide in Costa Mesa – 600 miles south of her home – for three weeks.

When she reappeared, she told police that two Hispanic women kidnapped her at gunpoint and tortured her while in captivity.

But her lies fell apart after investigators found DNA on a piece of clothing that would lead back to Reyes, who dropped her off in Woodland when she decided to reappear.

In March 2022, Papini was arrested and charged with making false statements to federal agents and mail fraud. A month later, she formally pleaded guilty, admitting her kidnapping claims were a hoax.

Papini’s case was explored in the 2024 Hulu documentary series “Perfect Wife: The Mysterious Disappearance of Sherri Papini,” which featured interviews with Papini’s husband, Keith, who filed for divorce and for sole custody of their kids after she pled guilty.

Survivor 48 contestant Shauhin Davari is the ex of Sherri Papini

In a shocking twist, it has been revealed that Survivor 48 contestant Shauhin Davari was previously in a relationship with Sherri Papini, the woman who made headlines in 2016 when she was allegedly kidnapped and later found alive. The news has left fans of the long-running reality show buzzing with speculation about how this connection will play out on the upcoming season.

Davari and Papini reportedly dated several years ago, before Papini’s high-profile disappearance and subsequent return. While the details of their relationship remain largely unknown, it is clear that their past connection will add an intriguing layer of drama to the dynamic on Survivor 48.

As fans eagerly await the premiere of the new season, many are wondering how Davari and Papini’s shared history will impact their interactions on the show. Will their past romance lead to alliances or animosity? Only time will tell, but one thing is for certain: Survivor 48 is shaping up to be one of the most dramatic seasons yet. Stay tuned for all the latest updates on this unexpected twist in the Survivor saga.

  • As a Coast Guard harassment survivor, I support Admiral Fagan’s firing

Earlier this week, President Donald Trump fired Adm. Linda Fagan, commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard, for mishandling Operation Fouled Anchor, a yearslong investigation into sexual assault and harassment at the Coast Guard Academy that top leadership hid.

I am a survivor of sexual harassment in the Coast Guard and I support Fagan’s firing.

For the past 18 months, sexual harassment and sexual assault survivors repeatedly asked Fagan when Coast Guard leaders who failed to prosecute known sexual assaults at the Coast Guard Academy and in the service would be prosecuted. We asked when Adm. Karl Schultz, former Coast Guard commandant, would be held accountable for failing to share the Operations Fouled Anchor (OFA) report with Congress with the Coast Guard community.

    No response. No accountability.

My first attempt at transparency was at the November 2023 “healing” event. The event, held five months after CNN reported on OFA, intended to provide survivors with a venue to talk about sexual assault in the Coast Guard. Fagan, who was briefing sexual harassment and sexual assault survivors, shared that she was committed to not creating new survivors. It was a laudable goal, but what about current survivors?

I politely stood up in a room full of women carrying decades of pain and asked, what about us? When will Coast Guard leaders be held accountable? Fagan declined to answer the question.

Later that day, Steve Poulin, a former Judge Advocate General colleague of mine and then Coast Guard vice commandant, thanked me for advocating for Coast Guard sexual assault and sexual harassment survivors. Empty words. I’m a former agency leader, having served as chief counsel for the Maritime Administration between 2009-2012. He was the vice commandant, the No. 2 in command in the Coast Guard. Why wasn’t he doing more in 2023? He was the Coast Guard chief counsel when OFA began in 2014. Why didn’t he hold former Coast Guard leaders accountable for failing to prosecute crimes?

I asked again in December 2024. I stood up at a Navy League breakfast and asked Fagan about accountability. Fagan was at the event to share information about the service with Navy League members. I wanted to know what was happening with OFA. Fagan thanked me for my “courage” in asking the question.

There is nothing courageous about asking about crimes. I’m simply a Coast Guard veteran and former JAG, who is appalled by the Coast Guard admiral’s club who refuses to hold each other accountable.

Thad Allen, former Coast Guard commandant and Fagan’s boss, describes Fagan as a “leader of character and integrity whom he looked to for counseling and support and would do so again without hesitation. … She has faced the most difficult challenges in a responsible, forthright and forward-looking manner … always acting in the best interest of the service.”

I agree with Allen’s assessment. Fagan always looked out for the best interest of the service and Coast Guard sexual harassment and sexual assault survivors suffered as a result.

Fagan knew about OFA before she became commandant, according to her testimony before Congress in June 2024. Fagan “formally” learned about OFA in 2018 when she joined the Coast Guard Leadership Council in her role as Pacific Area Commander (2018-2021). The decision not to share the OFA report with Congress occurred in 2020, the period in which Fagan was on the Leadership Council.

Fagan was nominated to be Vice Commandant in 2021. She did not share information regarding OFA with Congress as part of her nomination process. Fagan was nominated to be commandant in 2022. Again, she did not share OFA info.

It wasn’t until CNN reported on OFA in June 2023 that Fagan publicly admitted to knowing the most damaging secret in the service — crimes were committed but not prosecuted and the report summarizing these crimes and the lack of accountability was not shared with Congress.

Coast Guard sexual harassment and sexual assault survivors weren’t the only ones calling for accountability. Five Congressional committees were also pressing the service for information and all they got were blacked-out pages. Hours were spent lining out thousands of pages of documents, an effort that appeared to limit Congress’ oversight.

The criticism of Fagan’s firing by former Coast Guard leaders has led many in the Coast Guard sexual harassment and sexual assault to shake their heads. Yet again, admirals are looking after themselves while survivors, male and female, struggle to live with the unaddressed pain.

Sexual assault is a crime. It’s a crime that should be prosecuted and for the first time in history a service chief was fired for not doing her job to address this crime. It was the first time in 18 months since OFA was uncovered that an admiral was held accountable and that’s a good thing.

    K. Denise Rucker Krepp is a Coast Guard veteran and former Maritime Administration chief counsel.

As a Coast Guard harassment survivor, my heart breaks for those who have endured similar experiences. It takes an immense amount of courage to come forward and speak out against the toxic culture of harassment and abuse that can exist within our ranks.

That’s why I stand in solidarity with Admiral Fagan’s firing. It sends a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated, and that those in positions of power must be held accountable for their actions.

I hope that this serves as a wake-up call to the entire Coast Guard community, and that steps are taken to ensure that all members feel safe, respected, and supported. No one should have to endure harassment or abuse in order to serve their country.

I urge anyone who has experienced harassment or abuse to speak out, seek help, and know that they are not alone. Together, we can create a safer and more inclusive environment for all Coast Guard members.

    The cast of ‘Survivor 48’.

    Robert Voets/CBS

    Stephanie Berger

    Stephanie Berger from ‘Survivor 48’.

    Robert Voets/CBS

    Age: 38
    Hometown
    : New York City, N.Y.
    Current residence:
    Brooklyn, N.Y.
    Occupation:
    Tech product lead
    Three words to describe you:
     Ambitious, outgoing, resilient
Why do you want to be part of Survivor?
I love this game. You can only armchair quarterback for so long when you’re as challenge minded as I can be before you realize you need to shut up and play. Fewer than 700 people have played this game — and fewer than 50 have won. I want to be one of them.
What’s one life experience you feel has prepared you for the game?
Teaching middle school in New Orleans as part of Teach for America, and staying in the classroom for eight years, far beyond my two-year initial commitment, uniquely prepared me for the game. That experience drove home the importance of strong relationships. Kids want to learn from someone they know cares about them. Juries (often) vote for the person they have the strongest relationship with.
Which previous player do you identify with the most? Who do you think you will play most like?
I’ve thought about this question for months now and I still don’t know if there’s ever been a previous player quite like me! I hope to have Natalie Anderson’s fierceness, Yam Yam’s humor and strategy, all while forging my own path to the win.
What will you value in an alliance partner?
Information. Someone who puts the “tea” in loyalty and sees the game the same way I do.
    Favorite hobbies:
Talking, making elaborate Mardi Gras costumes.
    Pet peeves:
QR code menus in restaurants. When someone accidentally steps on the back of my flip flops.
What is the accomplishment you are most proud of
? The community of friends and chosen family I’ve built for myself. My mother passed away [recently] and my people are a big reason I have the strength to be here today, chasing my dream.
What is something we would never know from looking at you?
Most people see the blonde curls and the jingle-jangle jewelry and don’t think “business woman.” But I run a business, leading highly technical projects for a household e-commerce company.
Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
All the women in my life. The strength, grace, caring, determination, humor, spirit, and love they possess and routinely demonstrate.
Why will you be the Sole Survivor?
When you peel back all the layers, Survivor is about making it to the end sitting next to two people you can beat. The adaptability and resilience to make it to the end, the smarts to make the right moves along the way, and the storytelling ability to put it all in front of the jury. They shouldn’t let me get anywhere near final tribal.

    Age: 38
    Hometown
    : East Bay, Calif.
    Current residence:
    Costa Mesa, Calif.
    Occupation:
    Debate professor
    Three words to describe you:
     Charismatic, driven, clever
Why do you want to be part of Survivor?
Less than 800 people have ever played Survivor, the greatest game ever invented. I get to be the first Persian male to ever play and win. And I’m out here because I promised my mom I’d make it. Momma! We made it!
What’s one life experience you feel has prepared you for the game?
My whole life is weirdly prep for Survivor. Running a speech and debate team requires working with all different people. Motivating them toward a common goal, while working socially to put your team in position to succeed.
Which previous player do you identify with the most? Who do you think you will play most like?
Probably Penner. He had an ability to relate to people that was special. He pushed too hard at times, bit his nose to spite his face even, but I think I’ll play a new-era version of his game.
What will you value in an alliance partner?
I need a strategist. I have all kinds of hair-brained ideas. I need someone to tell me I’m stupid. Call me out and better my ideas into solid plans.
    Favorite hobbies:
Learning new hobbies. Non-contact sports. I’m too fragile for contact sports. Chess, boardgames. Podcasts. Writing. I have an addictive personality. I will get into anything put in front of me and obsess over it.
    Pet peeves:
Folks who miss the forest for the trees/inability to see big picture/lack of appreciation. Being interrupted. I love the sound of my voice.
What is the accomplishment you are most proud of
? Professionally: I coach a forensics team (speech debate and theater) and we won four national championships in a row between 2015 and 2018. But after the pandemic, the team went from 70 students down to seven. My proudest accomplishment is reestablishing an incredible, life-changing space for my students, even winning another championship. Personally: getting my mom, brother, partner, and entire community obsessed with Survivor Wednesday nights at our church.
What is something we would never know from looking at you?
I’m incredibly sensitive. More understanding and forgiving than I look. Emotionally intelligent. I’m persuadable. I really try to stay open minded.
Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
My brother. He paved the way for me. Turned around, came back, held my hand and walked me through life. I lead people because I feel we all deserve an older brother like him. My mom – the things she went through to make and remake our family… insane. And now, she’s still willing to learn, change, and grow.
Why will you be the Sole Survivor?
I’m the perfect combo. Socially, savvy. Strategically competent without being over the top. Athletically underestimated. Resilience is in my blood. In any game I play: my eyes stay on the prize.

    Hometown

    Current residence:
    Providence, R.I.
    Occupation:
    PhD Candidate
    Three words to describe you:
     Energetic, driven, competitive
Why do you want to be part of Survivor?
For myself, I love the competition and the huge challenge this game presents. But on a bigger-picture scale, I want to go on Survivor to show the world a version of Autism they don’t often portray in mainstream media. I am Autistic, but my Autism experience is unique and will give people hope that even if they are on the spectrum they can still accept who they are and be successful.
What’s one life experience you feel has prepared you for the game?
I was the first and only girl to play men’s hockey at Georgia Tech and am currently the captain of the men’s club hockey team at Brown University. I am used to competing against men twice my size who think they are better than me. I am prepared to bring my fierce competitive nature to my game of Survivor.
Which previous player do you identify with the most? Who do you think you will play most like?
Denise or Lindsey, female players that were super strong and absolute beasts in challenges.
What will you value in an alliance partner?
Loyalty. I am a very loyal person and I intend to form strong alliances that I can trust. I don’t intend to play a game of blindsiding those who trust me. I want to find a No. 1 to stick with through and through.
    Favorite hobbies:
    Hockey, water sports, rollerblading.
    Pet peeves:
    Lazy people, wet socks.
What is the accomplishment you are most proud of?
I can’t pick one. I am simply proud of how hard I have worked in all facets of my life and how that has culminated to huge goals being reached in my PHD, reffing career, and hockey career. I am so proud of all my hard work paying off.
What is something we would never know from looking at you?
I have Autism, I was diagnosed very young and my family was told I would never live independently. I have succeeded in life far beyond anyone’s imagination of my life having achieved big goals in hockey, my officiating career, my doctoral studies, and in forming so many friends who love me for who I am.
Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
My family: my dad’s work ethic, my mom’s kindness, and my sister’s perseverance. I strive to have all their qualities in my life.
Why will you be the Sole Survivor?
I’m gritty as hell. I will work harder than anyone else in this game. I also am smart and smart enough to hide my intelligence. This is a game of minimizing perceived threat level so by emphasizing my physical abilities while downplaying my intelligence I will fly under the radar to success.

    Occupation:
    Attorney
    Three words to describe you:
     Fun, crafty, social
Why do you want to be part of Survivor?
It’s the best game on earth. Even though my (and my tribe mates’) backgrounds will color the game, they can’t control the game. It’s the one place where your actions inside of this society are almost entirely what matters. Beautiful!
What’s one life experience you feel has prepared you for the game?
I taught a GED and history/humanities course at a juvenile detention center. Understandably, learning was not front-of-mind for my students who were in such a traumatic environment. But I found ways to connect and I’m proud of that.
Which previous player do you identify with the most? Who do you think you will play most like?
    1) Davie. He was unabashedly himself in light of the stereotypes he noted that were constantly forced on him as a black man. 2) Jay. I think he’s one of the most underrated Survivor players ever, especially given the obstacles he faced in a season with a very strong cast.
What will you value in an alliance partner?
An open mind and willingness to play the game with intention — while still having fun.
    Favorite hobbies:
Playing with my dogs, house plants, gym.
    Pet peeves:
Uppity people/those who look down on others. Styrofoam.
What is the accomplishment you are most proud of
? I argued and won a jury trial on behalf of my juvenile client, [who was] facing felony charges, during my second year of law school.
What is something we would never know from looking at you?
I will be a successful author one day.
Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
My older brother. He has been a consistent rock in my family throughout my hardships. I would not be here today without him.
Why will you be the Sole Survivor?
For a multitude of reasons, I have been forced to interact with many different types of people in many different environments. I’m a people person with diverse experiences. It should help.

    Three words to describe you:
     Joyful, relational, competitive
Why do you want to be part of Survivor?
I want to prove to myself that my speech impediment doesn’t limit me and that I can come out here and compete with anyone.
What’s one life experience you feel has prepared you for the game?
Growing up as a person who stutters really forced me to become comfortable being uncomfortable. It forced me to work through hard moments every day by continually putting myself out there, thus allowing me to become more resilient.
Which previous player do you identify with the most? Who do you think you will play most like?
I resonate with Spencer Bledsoe and Joe Anglim because of their competitiveness and love for the game. John Cochran, the second time he played. He wasn’t afraid to make moves and he played to win when others probably underestimated him.
What will you value in an alliance partner?
Someone who is easy to talk to and listens well. Someone who values your opinion and is level-headed and understands this game is built on strong relationships.
    Favorite hobbies:
Lifting weights or running with friends, going dancing, playing tennis, volleyball, or slow-pitch softball.
    Pet peeves:
People who always have to be right. People who interrupt or who are not good listeners, people who complain and are negative.
What is the accomplishment you are most proud of
? Being a first-generation college student and graduating from Texas A+M University.
What is something we would never know from looking at you?
I love endurance sports! I started running two years ago and since then I’ve done my first half marathon, full marathon, 20-mile trail race and Ironman 70.3.
Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
My mom; she sacrifices for those around her, she loves incredibly well and she has a heart of gold.
Why will you be the Sole Survivor?
Because of my ability to build relationships with people. I’m non-threatening and can use that to my advantage in this game. I thrive in a little chaos and when things get challenging is when I thrive.

    Three words to describe you:
     Outgoing, kind, driven
Why do you want to be part of Survivor?
Representation will always matter! It’s so important for other young black/POC women to see themselves in spaces not many POC occupy often. I’m doing this for all of the other young Black girls out there seeking the adventure of a lifetime.
What’s one life experience you feel has prepared you for the game?
The passing of my grandmother. She was such a force and raised me to be one as well. She taught me to continually be in pursuit of what brings me joy.
Which previous player do you identify with the most? Who do you think you will play most like?
I really vibe with Maryanne because she played the game as her true quirky self, but I also loved the tenacity of Drea; her go-getter attitude was inspiring! I think I’ll play the game like Maryanne in the sense of being authentically me.
What will you value in an alliance partner?
Trust, someone who’s themselves, someone who’s observant and has their fingers on the pulse of the diff dynamics at camp, someone funny, someone strong both mentally and physically.
    Favorite hobbies:
Hiking, scrapbooking, volleyball, swim, vision boarding, ceramics.
    Pet peeves:
People who say “Not to be offensive, but…” and proceed to offend you. People who smack when they chew. People who say the word “moist.” People who pronounce the word “salmon” incorrectly.
What is the accomplishment you are most proud of
? There’s a few: being on season 48 of Survivor, receiving a full-ride scholarship to private high school, studying abroad in Argentina, having my dream job at NBC post-college, winning an Associated Press award from their VA chapter.
What is something we would never know from looking at you?
That I was Nala in Lion King — off Broadway, don’t get too excited.
Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
This is hard! I am going to have to say all of the strong, smart, fearless, and kind women who helped raise me. It truly does take a village.
Why will you be the Sole Survivor?
My social skills are unmatched, I have true gift of gab but also an ability to make others feel valued, seen, and heard.

     Courageous, compassionate, loving/kick-ass dad!
Why do you want to be part of Survivor?
My sister. She was a big fan of the show from when it started. She asked me to apply years ago, and many times. I didn’t think we could do it. Then she was taken from me by domestic violence. It took me years, but this is for her. It is about doing this for her and giving her peace that her brother did it! And did it for her!
What’s one life experience you feel has prepared you for the game?
I lost my sister from domestic violence. That event showed me I can do anything and never give up. Her loss was hard to explain, how painful it was, but has shown me I can do/overcome anything.
Which previous player do you identify with the most? Who do you think you will play most like?
    Cody — well-rounded and loved.
What will you value in an alliance partner?
Loyal, don’t go “crazy” when things get wild. (Just be normal, and cool, please).
    Favorite hobbies:
Taking my kids to the pool, family trips, dance party with my little kiddos. Going to Tahoe with the family.
    Pet peeves:
Rude people, selfish people, mean people, people who tailgate/cut you off while driving. Bad hugs, people who don’t make eye contact. Basically anything acting like a “butthole.”
What is the accomplishment you are most proud of
? Being a good dad. This takes every inch of your heart, mind, and soul to truly do this. You have to put “you” second and make your sole purpose in life to make great little people.
What is something we would never know from looking at you?
I love to draw cartoons for my little girl. And she loves them even if you can’t tell who did the work, her or me!
Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
My father. He passed very quickly and unexpectedly in 2018. He was and is the greatest man I have ever known. His support, loyalty, bravery, and wisdom inspire me to always be my best.
Why will you be the Sole Survivor?
I have been through so much loss, pain, and struggle. This has given me the power to overcome anything. This has given me the power to overcome and be the next Sole Survivor.

    Foster City, Calif.
    Occupation:
    Software engineer
    Three words to describe you:
     Silly, expressive, impatient
Why do you want to be part of Survivor?
I’ve wanted to play since I was nine cause the challenges looked fun, but now I’m old, so they look less fun. Instead, I want to play a solid, fun game and rep brown girls well, since our representation was non-existent when I was growing up. I wanna show all the brown girls life’s better when you ignore the aunties and do the exact opposite of what they want you to do. You be yourself and you love yourself.
What’s one life experience you feel has prepared you for the game?
Failing every step of the way when starting my career. Failed to get into the “right” college program. Failed to transfer into the “right program.” Failed to convert any of my internships into full-time jobs. Failed to find a job in the field I wanted. I never let myself mourn my dreams getting crushed. I immediately went into “how do I continue and succeed from here?” mode and it worked out better than expected. Things won’t always go my way in Survivor, but I can handle that!
Which previous player do you identify with the most? Who do you think you will play most like?
Identify with the most, Maryanne. She was her fun, goofy self out there. Play most like — as much as I’d love to play a dominant game like Tony, I think I’ll end up playing like Erika. Our appearances and mannerisms are so unthreatening, and I think that can help me sneak my way to the end.
What will you value in an alliance partner?
Someone with a sense of humor, please! It’s so hard to be around unfunny people and people who don’t know how to have fun.
    Favorite hobbies:
Video games (had to quit MapleStory cold turkey when I got the call because I may have an addiction), lifting, and singing off-key (unintentionally) until my husband asks me to stop.
    Pet peeves:
People who message me “Hello” or “Can I ask you a question?” without actually asking their questions until I respond. Every time this happens, I lose a year off my life. I’m dead now.
What is the accomplishment you are most proud of
Paying off my parents’ mortgage and becoming a safety net for both my immediate and extended family. Growing up, I watched my parents sponsor and house so many of their siblings, parents, nieces, and nephews who made the move to Canada, so it’s the least I can do.
What is something we would never know from looking at you?
I played on a women’s semi-professional VALORANT team in 2021 and we placed Top 16 in the North American Women’s League.
Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
My parents. They didn’t have the best opportunities growing up (my mom didn’t get to go to high school), but they sacrificed a solid 20 years of their lives working night shifts, overtime, multiple jobs, anything to bring home extra money to provide opportunities for me and my brother, as well as support their own siblings and parents. There is no one as selfless as them.
Why will you be the Sole Survivor?
People won’t perceive me as a threat. I’m 5’1” so I’m not a physical threat, and I have a s— vocabulary, so I don’t sound smart when I speak. But I promise! There’s a brain up there and it has at least one wrinkle!

    Occupation:
    Stunt Performer
    Three words to describe you:
     Passionate, Daring, Curious
Why do you want to be part of Survivor?
I believe my background will give me an advantage in the games in many ways. I’ve gained confidence through my accomplishments, and I seek the adventure, experience, and validation I’d do well. I love challenges and to me, this show seems as if it could challenge me in ways I have not yet been.
What’s one life experience you feel has prepared you for the game?
Many of my experiences have prepared me for this game, but none more than so than the diverse group of people I have lived and worked with across multiple countries and continents. It has allowed me to embrace such a diverse world, filled with extraordinary people across all walks of life.
Which previous player do you identify with the most? Who do you think you will play most like?
I am compared to Jonathan Young a lot, and there are obvious similarities, but truthfully I cannot think of a player that I would be like. Though, admittedly, I have not seen every season of Survivor.
What will you value in an alliance partner?
Kindness. This is a ruthless game at times. Feelings [will] be hurt, tears shed, and at some period, betrayal will hit. But honoring knowing someone is genuine in their kindness, makes trusting them easier, and forgiving them possible.
    Favorite hobbies:
Flying, riding jet skis, diving, gaming, and playing board games.
    Pet peeves:
A lack of consideration for those around you, someone being rude or ill-mannered.
What is the accomplishment you are most proud of?
I have been going to the gym for a long time and despite injuries I have been very consistent with my health and ideals. I am proud of my health, the hard work I’ve put into it and will continue to.
What is something we would never know from looking at you?
My favorite movie of all time is Notting Hill.
Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
My parents. While no childhood is perfect, I think they did a damn good job raising me and my sisters. I look forward to being a parent one day and I will definitely have learned a lot from them.
Why will you be the Sole Survivor?
Self-awareness. I know who I am, what I am capable of, and more importantly, how others will perceive me. I will have to face all of these and will use them to my advantage.

    Occupation:

    Three words to describe you:
     Outgoing, emotional, loyal
Why do you want to be part of Survivor?
I always encourage those around me to chase their dreams and be vulnerable, so I feel like it’s time for me to take my own advice and do something I love, even if it scares me to death.
What’s one life experience you feel has prepared you for the game?
My friend and I lament that we work in “a viper pit” on a regular basis — nothing has prepared me more for this game than the music business.
Which previous player do you identify with the most? Who do you think you will play most like?
Sophie Clarke. The woman has it all. Smart, savvy, personable, and knows when to kick it into high gear and when to blend in with the pack.
What will you value in an alliance partner?
Someone who not only is honest with me, but can also be a shield and more of a threat.
    Favorite hobbies:
The Real Housewives, homemade ice cream, reading, cold brew, my dogs.
    Pet peeves:
Being late, traffic, losing to UCLA.
What is the accomplishment you are most proud of?
Probably putting myself out there to be on this show and be tested to my limits, when I know deep down I am a delicate man who really loves a nice bed and three meals a day.
What is something we would never know from looking at you?
I am a major sports fanatic and college football is one of my favorite things in the world.
Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
My husband Michael. He is thoughtful and brave, completely unafraid to do the right thing in any situation.
Why will you be the Sole Survivor?
I’m going to hoodwink these people into thinking I’m not a threat until it’s too late and there’s nothing they can do.

    Occupation:
    Finance Manager
    Three words to describe you:
     Energetic, social, determined.
Why do you want to be part of Survivor?
I started watching Survivor during Cook Islands and saw Yul Kwon as an inspiration to apply. It has taken some time to be physically ready, but I believe now I have the strategic, social, and physical skills to do well on Survivor.
What’s one life experience you feel has prepared you for the game?
As a side job post college, I worked at Abercrombie & Fitch as a greeter/model. I learned that effectively complimenting, smiling, and charming people while still being genuine goes a long way in terms of likability. Those skills have prepared me to interact with all kinds of people in Survivor.
Which previous player do you identify with the most? Who do you think you will play most like?
David vs. Goliath was my favorite season. I identify with most of the Davids (Christian, Nick, Davie) because of their tenacity and grit to band together despite their appearances. I hopefully will play like Kaleb from Survivor 45 and use my social charm to influence people, but hopefully not be too charming where they see me as a threat!
What will you value in an alliance partner?
I will value someone who is flexible enough to look at all options. Doesn’t mean we are wavering, but thoughtful in weighing out all scenarios before coming to a decision.
    Favorite hobbies:
    Tennis, Barry’s Bootcamp, escape rooms
    Pet peeves:
    People who are always late.
What is the accomplishment you are most proud of
? Getting an MBA and graduating top of my class.
What is something we would never know from looking at you?
Though I don’t have children of my own, I really have the desire to help kids with disabilities. In 2019, I volunteered at an orphanage in Ghana and it was the most humbling and rewarding experience of my life.
Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
My parents, because they sacrificed and provided everything for me so that I could be successful. I hope to make them proud by showing grit, tenacity, and motivation — values they instilled in me.
Why will you be the Sole Survivor?
I think I have the winning combination to be Sole Survivor. Athletic, social, and smart? C’mon! I hope to charm my way to the million dollars!

    Occupation:
    Surgeon
    Three words to describe you:
    Dependable, determined, conscientious
Why do you want to be part of Survivor?
Having regularly watched Survivor since 2000, I constantly find myself answering how I would react and perform compared to other contestants. As we are not getting any younger, I finally wanted to know the experience for myself. It is a phenomenon that I can’t readily shake, so instead of potentially living with the regret of not trying, I am here to experience it for myself.
What’s one life experience you feel has prepared you for the game?
Completing a five-year surgical residency. The hours are long, the work can be the difference between life and death for my patient, and it requires you to dig deep and prepare yourself to help someone else.
Which previous player do you identify with the most? Who do you think you will play most like?
I’d like to think Earl Cole. Quiet confidence. The social game of Cirie.
What will you value in an alliance partner?
    Transparency, reliability, and adaptability.
    Favorite hobbies:
Running, singing, watching movies with the family, jigsaw puzzles.
    Pet peeves:
    Tardiness.
What is the accomplishment you are most proud of
? Successfully completing my educational journey through medical school, residency, and fellowship.
What is something we would never know from looking at you?
I can get lost for hours doing mundane tasks and the hobbies I enjoy, which likely explains the ability to perform long surgeries or complete jigsaw puzzles.
Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
My grandmother. Through her, I learned compassion and developed a keen interest in medicine.
Why will you be the Sole Survivor?
My whole life has prepared me well to walk into this game and be successful. Now that the opportunity has been given to me, I am ready to execute and walk into this victory.

    Three words to describe you:
    Bold, fun, loyal
Why do you want to be part of Survivor?
Because for years my insecurities held me back from so much in life. I always wanted to be on Survivor but never thought I could do it. Now I’m here making up for lost time and experiences I used to hold myself back from.
What’s one life experience you feel has prepared you for the game?
Being a flight attendant. I deal with hundreds of people and personalities every day. My job is like playing Survivor in a metal tube!
Which previous player do you identify with the most? Who do you think you will play most like?
Tony and Jane are my favorite players, but my game is my own. I’m going out there and playing like me.
What will you value in an alliance partner?
Obviously, loyalty and honesty, but also just someone who is fun to play the game with.
    Favorite hobbies:
Working out, traveling, reading, creating content.
    Pet peeves:
When people don’t use headphones in public and blast their phones on full volume.
What is the accomplishment you are most proud of
? Losing 100 pounds and getting healthy inside and out, and now coaching women through their health journeys.
What is something we would never know from looking at you?
    Ya girl can sing.
Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
My dad. He is the smartest and most generous person I have ever met. He is truly brilliant and so humble.
Why will you be the Sole Survivor?
Because I don’t quit. I always find a way when I’m all in on something.

    Three words to describe you:
     Compassionate, hard-working, resilient
Why do you want to be part of Survivor?
Survivor has been a family passion for over two decades. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and I want to put my education, life experience, and preparation to the ultimate test!
What’s one life experience you feel has prepared you for the game?
Believe it or not, working at Luigi’s (our family restaurant). We’re graced everyday with customers who hail from every corner of the globe. No two people are alike in their tastes and preferences, but we always leave them feeling full and happy.
Which previous player do you identify with the most? Who do you think you will play most like?
I’ve always been a big fan of Tyson – he possesses a unique combination of intelligence, athleticism, wit, determination, and humor (and hair! Can’t forget the hair!) If I can emulate even a fraction of his approach, I think I can make a deep run.
What will you value in an alliance partner?
I really want to work with someone who we can bounce ideas off of. You’re out here in your own head, and just to have an outlet to talk strategy and advance both your games will be so useful.
    Favorite hobbies:
Horse racing, listening to sports talk radio, and cooking (especially pizza).
    Pet peeves:
Not reusing/recycling something, pants without pockets (useless), people who interrupt someone when he/she is trying to make a point.
What is the accomplishment you are most proud of?
I was the youngest legislative aide in the history of the Massachusetts State House. At the time, I didn’t think much of it. I just wanted to help my boss any way that I could. But looking back, it’s really awesome to have worked at the highest level of state politics as a teenager.
What is something we would never know from looking at you?
That I have been a vegetarian for my entire life! I’ve always had a love for animals and never even had a temptation to try meat. However, despite this dietary choice, I’m a lot stronger than I appear.
Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
Without question, my mother. From having founded and grown our family restaurant over 40 years ago to having battled (and beaten) cancer three separate times, she’s been playing Survivor her whole life! Despite everything she’s been through, she never complains, still maintains a positive attitude, and keeps a great sense of humor.
Why will you be the Sole Survivor?
Because I never back down from anything I’ve done in my life. The word “quit” is not in my vocabulary. I don’t see that attitude changing on the island.

    Arlington, Va.
    Occupation:
    PR Consultant
    Three words to describe you:
    Bold, friendly, enthusiastic
Why do you want to be part of Survivor?
Joining the Survivor family is a dream come true. I’ve been watching the show since season 1, when I was eight years old, and I am so incredibly grateful to be living out a life goal. I can’t wait to meet new amazing humans, push my strength and positive mindset that I’ve always been proud of to new limits, and hopefully be a living example that being your authentic self is one of the bravest things you can do.
What’s one life experience you feel has prepared you for the game?
Starting my own company. My 10-year career in public relations has given me invaluable skills for this game (strategic mindset, relationship building mastery, succeeding under pressure), and starting my own business has brought those skills to unlocked hidden levels.
Which previous player do you identify with the most? Who do you think you will play most like?
Dee, Kenzie, Maryanne, Michele. They are badass, strong-willed, kind, and played impeccable social games. I persuade for a living. I persuade multi-million dollar companies to work with me, I persuade people, I persuade journalists to write about my clients, and I’ll persuade my heart out on the island for 26 days. By working for myself I need to believe in myself and rely on myself in order to get paid. Let’s go get that mil!
What will you value in an alliance partner?
Vibes. Someone who I genuinely connect with, can work with, can laugh with, can brainstorm with and can be cutthroat with. (Not someone I can trust, because I won’t trust anyone)
    Favorite hobbies:
Talking about how much I love the state of N.J., spending time with friends and family, going to the Jersey shore, Italian cards, cooking delicious meals with my boyfriend, growing my herbs (I’m obsessed with them), board games, clamming, and reading.
    Pet peeves:
    Indecisiveness, and mean people.
What is the accomplishment you are most proud of?
Finally getting my parents to understand what I do for a living — just kidding, they still don’t get it. Taking a big risk to leave my agency job after seven-and-a-half years and betting on myself.
What is something we would never know from looking at you?
I went to roller coaster camp as a kid. Yup. You read that right. It’s probably where my adrenaline junkie behavior and risk-taking nature began.
Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
My Nonno John and my Nonna Nina are my heroes. They are the most selfless, kind, and hardworking people I know. Everything they’ve done was for the better of other people, me, and our family: immigrating to America from Italy, each of them working multiple jobs at once to make ends meet all while remaining loving and happy. My grandfather would take the clothes off his back for a complete stranger. My grandmother was an entrepreneur ahead of her time and rose to a real estate maven. They have both taught me the power of believing in myself, serving others, and hard work. I am so grateful for them every day and would honestly love to see them on Survivor — they would kick ass!
Why will you be the Sole Survivor?
I’ve been practicing and honing my skills my entire life. My successful career in public relations has given me the tools I need to win people over, spin a story, I never take anything personally, and keep going. PR is not for the faint of heart and neither is Survivor. I’m ready to win.

    Occupation:
    Fire Lieutenant
    Three words to describe you:
     Badass, lucky, generous
Why do you want to be part of Survivor?
Why not? I want to show all the little girls out there they can be firefighters/truck drivers/policemen, etc. Anything they want!
What’s one life experience you feel has prepared you for the game?
Sometimes as a firefighter you are assigned to a new firehouse with new crew. You learn real fast how to size people up. How to deal with different personalities.
Which previous player do you identify with the most? Who do you think you will play most like?
I really liked Carolyn. She was herself. And that’s how I intend to play. Be myself! Except maybe lie a little.
What will you value in an alliance partner?
Looking for someone I connect with. I know we are all in it to win. But if you have someone that has your back, at least to final five, that would be ideal.
    Favorite hobbies:
Working out. I love cardio. But I also like to eat junk food. So it equals out.
    Pet peeves:
When someone doesn’t wipe off gym equipment and leaves it all sweaty. Gross!
What is the accomplishment you are most proud of
? Probably everything. I grew up poor. Dropped out of high school. So I’m very proud of everything I did. Raise my son/single mom. Firefighter/paramedic. Lieutenant/nurse.
What is something we would never know from looking at you?
That I dropped out of high school.
Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
Me. I came from nothing. Welfare family. To having a great career. Supporting my son by myself.
Why will you be the Sole Survivor?
I am doing this for me and my family and friends. I have friends fighting cancer. My mother is getting older. I want to help all of them.

    Three words to describe you:
     Hilarious, smooth, laugh-out-loud funny.
Why do you want to be part of Survivor?
Survivor is the most realest, cutthroat show out there! I want to be a part of Survivor history and I hope one day my son, Silver-Mars, will also compete and chase the Survivor family legacy I am creating.
What’s one life experience you feel has prepared you for the game?
Experiencing the death of my father. I am chasing my dream believing in myself and living and enjoying life as my dad would have wanted. The name of the game is “no regrets.”
Which previous player do you identify with the most? Who do you think you will play most like?
I identify most with a mix of Maryanne and Sandra Diaz-Twine. Goofy, but serious. I know how to handle business while also having a good time.
What will you value in an alliance partner?
Loyalty and honesty. If I can’t trust my alliance partner even just a little that means we should not be in an alliance.
    Favorite hobbies:
Watching TV shows/movies. I think of myself as a TV/movie expert. I know all the hits.
    Pet peeves:
Teeth grinding, bugs that buzz, Beyonce haters, Harry Potter haters.
What is the accomplishment you are most proud of
? My son Silver-Mars, getting my Master’s degree, and most of all, making it on Survivor 48!
What is something we would never know from looking at you?
I am actually really shy and I’m an introvert.
Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
I am my biggest inspiration because No. 1, I will never give up on myself and No. 2, I will always want the best for myself, so I cannot lose.
Why will you be the Sole Survivor?
Because the stars align for Star. This is my game to win! I can’t go back to my wife without the million dollars! She’ll change the locks LOL JK.

    Occupation:
    Substance abuse counselor
    Three words to describe you:
     Chaotic, dynamic, thoughtful
Why do you want to be part of Survivor?
I’ve done Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, and hitchhiked across the Mediterranean. It’s been awhile since I’ve challenged myself. This game will push you to your limits — emotionally and physically — and I’m dying to be pushed there and then push past it!
What’s one life experience you feel has prepared you for the game?
Volunteering at the crisis hotline for years — you have to build trust within minutes, be convincing enough that people who formerly wanted to end their lives don’t want to anymore, and be attuned to the subtitles of human emotion. Plus, you never know who you’re gonna get on the other line, so you need to be ready for surprises.
Which previous player do you identify with the most? Who do you think you will play most like?
Identify with Ben because although he was pinned as a threat, his relentless game play ensured he was never voted out — the man played like his life depended on it. But I’d also play like Kenzie, who went to every reward, because by nature I’m a social butterfly. I will flit around, providing comfort, care, and laughter to my tribe mates.
What will you value in an alliance partner?
The ability to shut off your emotions in favor or what’s best logistically/strategically. I can’t have an alliance partner poppin’ off at someone we need for numbers, thereby potentially alienating them or wanting to vote out a shield just because they want revenge.
    Favorite hobbies:
Cycling (read: weaving through traffic during rush hour); making music; tarot; writing; cooking for my loved ones.
    Pet peeves:
Slow drivers in the left lane; food that you pay for that sucks; inefficiency; being told what to do; people who over-promise and under-deliver.
What is the accomplishment you are most proud of
? Learning how to say no to others so that I can say yes to myself.
What is something we would never know from looking at you?
I’ve struggled for years with body image and disordered eating, and I’ve put in a lot of work to forge and nurture a healthy relationship with food.
Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
Everyone says their parents and I’m no different, except it’s because my parents helped lead the 1989 Tiananmen Square Protests for Democracy. Afterwards, my mom escaped house arrest after nine months in jail and my dad evaded the Communists despite a national search for him. They didn’t choose to start a new life in a foreign country — they were forced to seek political asylum, otherwise they’d die. They live their lives with intention and purpose.
Why will you be the Sole Survivor?
I’m a bundle of contradictions — so I can be whatever I need to be whenever I need to be! I’m chaotic but also careful and controlled. I’m easy-going and can befriend anyone but intense and will be on the whole time (think: Ben searching for idols at all hours). I move through the world with my intuition leading, so I’ll be able to sense any sneaky business or deceitful intentions.

  • Inauguration Day: Is there a designated survivor?

WASHINGTON — Donald Trump is being inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States on Monday, but not everyone from his new administration will be there.

For events such as the inauguration and the State of the Union Address, there is a “designated survivor” who is chosen. This person, usually someone from the president’s cabinet, is chosen not to attend the event so that, in the case of a catastrophic emergency, the succession of the presidency is kept intact.

The designated survivor is kept anonymous for the event. Typically, the outgoing administration chooses the designated survivor. The designated survivor for the 2021 inauguration was never revealed. For Trump’s previous inauguration in 2017, there were two designated survivors: Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson, chosen by outgoing President Barack Obama, and Sen. Orrin Hatch, chosen by Trump.

    More inauguration stories:

On Inauguration Day, the President-elect and Vice President-elect are sworn into office, but what happens in case of a catastrophic event? Is there a designated survivor?

The answer is yes. Since the 1960s, the United States government has implemented a designated survivor protocol for events where the President, Vice President, and other top officials are gathered in one location, such as the presidential inauguration.

The designated survivor is a member of the Presidential line of succession who is chosen to be physically separated from the rest of the government officials in order to ensure continuity of government in the event of a disaster. This individual would assume the presidency in case of a catastrophic event that incapacitates the President, Vice President, and other top officials.

The designated survivor is typically a cabinet member or high-ranking official who is not in attendance at the inauguration ceremony. They are taken to a secure location, usually undisclosed, where they are kept safe and isolated from the other officials until the event is over.

While the designated survivor protocol may seem like a plotline from a TV show, it is a real and necessary precaution to ensure that the United States government can continue to function effectively in the face of unforeseen circumstances. So rest assured, there is a designated survivor on Inauguration Day, ready to step in if needed.
