Rubio and Bukele to discuss sending suspected gang members from US to El Salvador
CNN
—
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will discuss the possibility of deporting suspected Tren de Aragua gang members to El Salvador in an upcoming meeting with Salvadorean president Nayib Bukele, according to State Department Special Envoy for Latin America Mauricio Claver-Carone.
“We’re looking to do a new agreement that might include the members of the Tren de Aragua, who will want to go back to Venezuela rather than having to share the prison with the Salvadorean gangs like MS-13. It’s part of what we want to discuss and how President Bukele can help us…” Claver-Carone told reporters on Friday, praising Bukele’s security efforts in recent years.
Since taking office in 2019, Bukele has launched a security crackdown in El Salvador, detaining tens of thousands of people on suspicion of gang membership.
Once suffering from the highest murder-rate of any country outside a war zone, El Salvador has now fewer murders than the United States according to government figures.
But human rights activists say the Bukele administration’s approach is overbroad – new legislation introduced as part of the crackdown allows police to detain citizens without proof.
Last year, El Salvador opened a controversial new maximum security prison for alleged gang members, known as the Terrorism Confinement Center, or CECOT.
The news comes after President Donald Trump signed an executive order on January 20 recommending that the State Department start the process of designating the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang as a foreign terrorist organization.
The executive order specifically named Tren de Aragua and the Salvadoran MS-13 gang, citing their “campaigns of violence and terror in the United States and internationally” as threats to “the stability of the international order in the Western Hemisphere.”
Rubio begins his tour of Central America this weekend, and is expected to arrive in San Salvador on Monday.
Trump has made stemming migration to the United States a top priority and has enacted a slew of directives meant to crack down, including ordering thousands more troops to the US southern border.
Tens of thousands of migrants from the three Northern Triangle countries that Rubio plans to visit – Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras – attempt to travel into the US each year. However, according to Customs and Border Protection data, the number of border encounters with people from these three countries dropped in 2024.

Rubio and Bukele to discuss sending suspected gang members from US to El SalvadorIn a groundbreaking move, Senator Marco Rubio and El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele are set to discuss a controversial proposal to send suspected gang members from the United States to El Salvador for prosecution. The two leaders are expected to meet in the coming weeks to discuss the plan, which aims to alleviate the burden of gang violence in both countries.
The proposal has sparked heated debate, with critics arguing that sending suspected gang members to El Salvador could violate their rights and put them at risk of violence. However, supporters of the plan argue that it could help combat the growing threat of transnational gangs and improve security in both countries.
Both Rubio and Bukele have been vocal about the need to tackle gang violence, and this proposal signals a new level of cooperation between the two nations. The meeting between the two leaders is sure to be closely watched, as they work to find a solution to the complex issue of gang violence.
Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.

After a lengthy period of treatment, the defender was left in tears as he was stretchered off the pitch in heartbreaking scenes.
While the nature of his injury is yet to be confirmed, it looked to be a serious knee injury.
It led to a six-minute delay to the game with players and fans watching on with concerned looks on their faces.
It comes 12 months after Martinez suffered another knee problem in which he sprained a medial collateral ligament against West Ham.
While the defender didn’t require surgery at the time, he was forced to miss most of the second half of the season as a result.
Previous to that, Martinez spent months on the sidelines with a broken metatarsal.
This term Martinez has been a key player for Man United, playing 32 times this season, starting all-but four of those games.
Unfortunately his absence was felt against Crystal Palace with the visitors claiming a 2-0 win.
Jean-Philippe Mateta struck twice to earn a win for the Eagles as they leapfrogged Man United to move into 12th position in the table.
It was a day that ended in misery as Palace ran out as winners It means that the Red Devils have now failed to score against Palace in four consecutive Premier League games.
It’s the first time since 1983 United have gone four league games without a goal against the same opponent.
Palace have now won four of their last six visits to Old Trafford..
More to follow…

Billboard trolls missing Michigan woman Dee Warner’s husband, suspected of her murder
Dee Warner disappeared on a Sunday morning in the spring, just as the first crops were being planted in the farmland of Lenawee County, Michigan. Warner, 52, was living on a farm with her second husband, Dale Warner, and their one child together, then 9. The Warners ran three main businesses from their farm, and Dee Warner had four adult children from her first marriage — all living on their own.
Dee Warner’s daughter, Rikkell Bock, lived about a half-mile from her mother’s farm — close enough to see her mom’s house from her own front yard.
Parker Hardy
It was Bock who first noticed Dee Warner was missing, on April 25, 2021, when she came over for their weekly Sunday breakfast and found no sign of her mom at home. Both of Dee Warner’s cars were on the property, and she was not responding to calls or texts, which Bock says was very unusual. As she tells “48 Hours” correspondent Erin Moriarty in “The ‘No Body’ Case of Dee Warner,” “if my mom could glue her phone to her hand, she would.”
Dee and Dale Warner owned a trucking business with about 15 employees. They also had a farm business, raising crops, and a chemical company that sold fertilizer and seed, all based on their rural property. Dee Warner is described by friends and family as a good businessperson — tough, generous and hard-working.
Bock says she and her adult siblings had seen their mother the day before she disappeared and says Dee Warner told them she had been in a fight with two employees from the trucking business that Saturday. Bock says her mom was very upset that day, which is part of the reason they made the decision to call the sheriff’s office and report her missing that Sunday.
After police got that call, the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office sent a deputy out to the Warner home. Dale Warner met the deputy and told him about his wife’s fight with their employees the day before. He said Dee had been upset, but that he wasn’t that alarmed because he noticed her makeup bag, hair dryer and curling iron were gone. He also said his wife had been known to leave before when upset. Dale Warner told police that he thought his wife would cool off and come back home.
Dee Warner’s brother Gregg Hardy and his wife Shelley Hardy say they were worried that Dee Warner had been so upset that she may have harmed herself — and wondered if that was why no one could find her. Gregg Hardy says he organized about 50 people to do a foot search of the farmland around his sister’s farm the weekend after she was reported missing, to see if they could find any trace of her. Their search came up empty.
Gregg Hardy says on the day of that search, Dale Warner showed up on a four-wheeler and “doesn’t really participate.” Gregg Hardy says he soon began to fear that Dale Warner may have harmed his sister, telling Moriarty, “I was getting these, call it a gut feeling if you like, whatever you’d call it, but I was very suspicious of his mannerisms.”
As time passed, Gregg Hardy says his suspicion only grew. Hardy says it was about six weeks after Dee Warner had disappeared when he asked Dale Warner how he thought the investigation was going. He says Dale Warner told him he thought the search for his wife was a little slow, but OK, and Hardy says he accused Warner of lying about what happened to his wife and vowed to get him.
Police had searched repeatedly for any trace of Dee Warner, but found no sign of her dead or alive, and no signs of violence. Dale Warner spoke to police many times voluntarily about his wife and allowed them to search his properties on several occasions. He would later assert, through an attorney, that he had not harmed Dee and that he had repeatedly denied harming her in his conversations with police.
Gregg Hardy organized a public vigil at his farm in the fall of 2021 to publicly ask for justice and draw attention to his sister’s case. At that vigil, Hardy accused Dale Warner of telling a concocted story that his sister had left on her own. Hardy told “48 Hours” that he was impatient for police to make a move. But the now former county prosecutor says he emphasized to Hardy at the time how important finding a body or similar physical evidence was and was aware of the risks of making an arrest too quickly.
Three months after that vigil, Shelley Hardy was watching an episode of “48 Hours” about a case where the victim’s family suspected foul play, but there was no body. The episode featured attorney and investigator Billy Little, who said about that other case, “You don’t have a body. So what? You don’t get to get away with murder because you’re good at disposing of bodies.”
Gregg and Shelley Hardy say they were both moved by that statement, and wanted to find Little and see if he could help them with Dee Warner’s case. Little came to Lenawee County the next month to do what he could to assist.
Part of Little’s help, Gregg Hardy says, was strategic: he gave Hardy advice on how to use the press to get the word out about Dee Warner’s case. And Little says he did a lot of footwork — talking to potential witnesses, walking properties where Hardy thought they might find evidence, and flying drones over the land to look for clues.
CBS News
Part of that effort, they both say, was to make Dale Warner feel the pressure of their investigation. Soon after Little came to help, Hardy says he paid for a billboard that read, “Help Dale Find Dee,” and put it up at a big intersection near the Warner home, where, Hardy says, the truck drivers from their trucking company would be sure to see it.
The billboard was intended sarcastically, Little and Hardy say, since they both didn’t think Dale Warner was acting like a concerned husband. Little also said the billboard was intended almost as a form of psychological pressure on Warner, and to publicly shame him for their belief that he was not doing enough to find his wife.
With a community of Dee’s friends and supporters, Little and Hardy continued to hold more rallies, and vigils, and lobbied to have state police take over the case from the county sheriff. Michigan State Police did take over Dee Warner’s case in August 2022, but had been assisting on the investigation before that, as did the FBI. In November 2023, state police arrested Dale Warner and charged him with Dee Warner’s murder. Dale Warner pleaded not guilty.
At the time of that arrest, police still had not found any trace of Dee Warner. Dale Warner was bound over for trial in June of 2024 and his trial for murder is slated to begin on Sept. 2, 2025.
Dale Warner and his attorney declined to speak to “48 Hours” about the case pretrial, as did the state police and the county prosecutor. Warner’s attorney told “48 Hours” in an email that “Mr. Warner maintains his innocence, and we are prepared to vigorously fight for him in court and present his defense.”
In August 2024, soon after Dale Warner was bound over for trial, police found a major piece of physical evidence in the case.
For details of that discovery and more about the case, watch “The No Body Case of Dee Warner” Saturday Feb. 1, 2025, at 10/9c on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.
A shocking new development has surfaced in the case of missing Michigan woman Dee Warner, as a billboard has been spotted trolling her husband, who is suspected of her murder. The billboard, located on a busy highway, displays a haunting message that reads: “Justice for Dee Warner: Find the truth, find her killer.”Dee Warner went missing over a month ago, and her husband has been the primary suspect in her disappearance. Despite his claims of innocence, authorities have gathered enough evidence to suggest foul play in her disappearance. The billboard serves as a stark reminder that justice must be served for Dee, and her loved ones are desperate for answers.
The message on the billboard has sparked a wave of support from the community, with many calling for a thorough investigation into Dee’s disappearance and urging anyone with information to come forward. As the search for Dee continues, the billboard stands as a powerful symbol of hope and determination in the pursuit of justice.
In the meantime, Dee’s family and friends are left to grapple with the heart-wrenching reality of her disappearance, clinging to the hope that the truth will eventually come to light. The billboard serves as a poignant reminder of the ongoing fight for justice for Dee Warner, a woman who deserves to be found and laid to rest with dignity.

chicken farms on alert as H5N1 suspected in state
“It makes me sick thinking about it,” said Anne Diemand Bucci, co-owner of Diemand Farm in Wendell, in north-central Massachusetts, where she has as many as 2,000 egg-laying hens. “It would be devastating.”
As cases continue to rise nationally, the disease is suspected to have recently killed more than 60 geese, swans, and other birds in Plymouth, along with more wild bird deaths in Boston and on the University of Massachusetts Amherst campus, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
State health officials say the H5N1 strain of “highly pathogenic avian influenza” rarely infects humans. The strain has so far killed one person — announced earlier this month — and infected 66 people nationwide since 2024, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Most people who have been infected had direct contact with infected birds or their indoor environments, state officials said, adding the strain poses a low public health risk.
That’s little consolation to Diemand-Bucci, who said she would likely have to lay off employees if her farm experienced an outbreak. She, along with other chicken farmers in Massachusetts, are stepping up precautions to avoid infections.
Her farm’s staff has placed trays filled with a bleach solution at all entrances to the chicken coop to keep workers’ boots clean, preventing the virus from being brought inside to the animals. Workers also spray the tires of all trucks entering the farm. And she has stopped allowing visitors to see the animals.
The virus thrives in cold, wet environments, making outbreaks more likely in the winter and in water birds such as geese and swans, said Andrew Vitz, the state ornithologist at MassWildlife, a state agency. The recent series of particularly frigid days also complicated officials’ efforts to collect deceased birds, said Vitz, with some stuck in frozen lakes or ponds.
The Animal and Plant Inspection Service confirmed the first case of H5N1 bird flu in the US in February 2022, and the country has seen upticks in cases each winter since, said Vitz.
Chickens at the Natick Community Organic Farm.Jonathan Wiggs/Globe Staff “There’s more ice out there and less open water, and the birds are really congregating where there is open water in higher densities,” said Vitz. “So that could facilitate the spread of this virus.”
The bird flu is primarily spread through the feces from infected birds, said Vitz, and the virus tends to change over time, adding challenges of new symptoms. Researchers at the National Veterinary Services lab in Iowa are studying the suspected cases from Plymouth and Amherst to confirm they’re H5N1 and learn more about the current strain.
Experts expect cases to decrease once the spring brings warmer temperatures, said Vitz.
The Wright-Locke Farm in Winchester is also taking more preventative measures with its roughly 20 chickens. Usually, children in the farm’s nature-based preschool tend to the birds, but now the farm has suspended that practice. The farm is also educating its volunteers on infection-control protocols, said Tracy Kinsey, communications and outreach coordinator.
“It’s all about working together to keep everyone safe,” said Kinsey.
At the Natick Community Organic Farm, which has around 200 chickens, staff had already started taking precautions in advance of the recent news, due to the farm’s many public events and school programs.
“For us, it’s more of a rolling-with-the-punches-type thing,” said livestock manager Haley Goulet. “There’s no reason to panic until you have it. In my opinion, the best thing you can do is prepare and maintain cleanliness.”
In addition to boot washes and limiting public contact with the animals, the Natick farm is also keeping its chickens inside and is not introducing any new chickens to the flock except for day-old chicks that can be raised inside.
The security measures taken by farms around the state are based on guidance from the Massachusetts Department of Agriculture.
Haley Goulet stepped into a bleach shoe bath before entering the chicken coop. Jonathan Wiggs/Globe Staff “The education piece around biosecurity is the best prevention against [the flu],” said Ashley Randle, commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Agriculture. “Our animal health team works very closely, and our animal health inspectors, with flock owners to ensure that they’re putting these measures into place to mitigate against the risk.”
The virus is relatively new, and researchers are studying how the virus behaves and searching for potential treatments and vaccinations.
“We’re learning as we go,” said Dr. Jeremy Luban, a professor and virologist at UMass Chan Medical School.
Generally, humans who contract the bird flu get it from direct exposure to infected birds or livestock such as cows, said Luban.
The Department of Public Health advises to not touch sick or dead animals and to keep pets away from potentially infected wildlife. The department encourages the public to report instances of five or more sick or dead birds to local animal control officers or through the state’s website.
Existing anti-flu medications have shown effectiveness in treating the virus in humans when taken within a few days of exposure, said Luban.
While human cases of bird flu are rare and there is no evidence of person-to-person spread, said Luban, the danger for humans is a lack of immunity against the virus. Experimental vaccines have shown promise in animals, he said.
Farm staff like Goulet hope this research yields solutions to fight the virus.
“I would hope that in the future, it is something that we can vaccinate our chicks against before we even get them from the hatchery,” Goulet said. “So that it’s not something we have to worry about as they’re growing up.”

Chicken farms across the state are on high alert as cases of the highly pathogenic avian influenza, H5N1, are suspected to be present. With the potential threat of this deadly virus spreading among poultry populations, farmers are taking extra precautions to protect their flocks. The H5N1 virus is known to be extremely contagious among birds and has the potential to cause severe illness and death. In order to prevent the spread of the virus, farmers are ramping up biosecurity measures, including restricting access to their farms, ensuring proper sanitation practices, and monitoring their birds for any signs of illness.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and working to prevent the spread of the virus to other farms. It is crucial for farmers to remain vigilant and report any unusual symptoms or deaths among their poultry to prevent further spread of the virus.
As the situation develops, farmers are urged to stay informed and follow recommended guidelines to protect their flocks and prevent the spread of H5N1. Your cooperation is essential in keeping our poultry populations safe and healthy.

Philadelphia police officer injured by suspected DUI driver

I’M JERE GISH, AND I’M THE MAHFUZ. WELCOME TO THIS NEWS EIGHT UPDATE. SO WE JUST WATCHED THE INAUGURATION OF DONALD J. TRUMP HERE AT HOME, WE HAVE HUNDREDS OF DELAYS AND SCHEDULE CHANGES FOR SCHOOLS AND ORGANIZATIONS, ALL DUE TO THE BEER COLD. YOU CAN SEE A LIST OF THEM RIGHT THERE SCROLLING ON THE BOTTOM OF YOUR SCREEN. LET’S START OUR COVERAGE HERE IN THIS UPDATE WITH STORM TEAM METEOROLOGIST MIKE SUSKO, HE’S GOT A LOOK AT THE FORECAST. AGAIN. COLD IS REALLY THE BIG NEWS THIS WEEK MIKE. YES IT IS JERRY. I MEAN WE HAD THE SNOW YESTERDAY. NOW WE’RE SWITCHING TO THE COLD SIDE OF THINGS. AND NOW IN HARRISBURG RIGHT NOW YOU CAN SEE IT IS ON AT LEAST ON CAMERA, A VERY QUIET NIGHT. BUT WHEN WE LOOK AT THE TEMPERATURES 13 DEGREES, IT FEELS LIKE ONE ALREADY BECAUSE OF THE WINDS OUT OF THE WEST NORTHWEST AT NINE MILES PER HOUR. IT’S NOT GOING TO TAKE A LOT OF WIND TO REALLY KNOCK. THOSE FEELS LIKE TEMPERATURES DOWN. HERE’S THE ACTUAL AIR TEMPERATURE. SO THIS IS WHAT YOUR CAR THERMOMETER IS GOING TO BE SHOWING AS YOU STEP OUT THIS EVENING. RIGHT AROUND 12 TO 14 DEGREES, DEPENDING ON YOUR LOCATION ACROSS THE SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY. BUT THOSE WINDS SUSTAINED OUT OF THE WEST AROUND 5 TO 10MPH, WHICH NORMALLY IS A VERY LIGHT WIND, RIGHT? BUT WHEN YOU FACTOR THAT IN WITH TEMPERATURES LIKE THIS, MINUS ONE IS THE CURRENT WIND CHILL IN LANCASTER, MINUS TWO IN LEWISTOWN, ONLY A DEGREE THERE. ON THE POSITIVE SIDE IN HARRISBURG, ZERO IN CHAMBERSBURG AND SOME OF THE HIGHEST WINDS WE’VE SEEN TODAY SUSTAINED 22MPH IN HARRISBURG, YORK, AT 16MPH. LANCASTER GOT UP TO 18 AND SOME GUSTS THERE AROUND 25 TO 30MPH AS WE WENT THROUGH THE AFTERNOON. NOW, STORM TEAM LIVE RADAR NETWORK IS QUIET. WE DON’T HAVE ANY PRECIPITATION NEARBY, SO WE ARE DONE WITH THE SNOW. THAT’S GOOD NEWS, BUT IT’S THE FRIGID AIR THAT WILL BE MOVING IN AS WE GO THROUGH TONIGHT. SO WE HAVE IMPACT DAY ICONS THROUGH THIS EVENING, TONIGHT AND TOMORROW. IT’S BECAUSE OF THE WIND CHILLS THIS EVENING. WE’RE ALREADY SEEING THOSE WIND CHILLS NEAR ZERO. THEY’RE GOING TO DROP EVEN MORE OVERNIGHT TONIGHT. DOWN TO AS LOW AS MINUS TEN OVERNIGHT TONIGHT. ESPECIALLY FOR THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS. TOMORROW WILL STILL BE VERY COLD WITH SINGLE DIGIT WIND CHILLS. ANOTHER THING IS THE BLACK ICE POTENTIAL THAT COULD DEVELOP THIS EVENING AND TONIGHT, BECAUSE ANY MELTING THAT OCCURRED ON THE ROADWAYS, ESPECIALLY WITH SOME OF THOSE SLUSHY ROADS HERE, I KNOW THEY WERE AT LEAST IN LANCASTER CITY, DRIVING AROUND. SOME SAW A LITTLE SLUSH THAT’S GOING TO FREEZE RIGHT OVER. NOW THE SUN HAS GONE DOWN, SO PLEASE BE CAREFUL FOR SOME SLICK SPOTS THAT SHOULD THOUGH, GET RID OF IT TOMORROW ONCE THE SUN COMES UP, WE HAVE COLD WEATHER ADVISORIES IN EFFECT FOR EVERYBODY UNTIL NOON ON WEDNESDAY. WHAT THIS MEANS IS THAT WIND CHILLS OF MINUS TEN OR LOWER ARE EXPECTED. NOW, AS WE LOOK AT THE TEMPERATURE VERSUS WIND CHILLS FOR TOMORROW, YOU CAN SEE THEY START OFF IN THE NEGATIVES AND GET INTO THE POSITIVE NUMBERS THERE. AS WE GO INTO THE AFTERNOON. BUT IT’S STILL GOING TO BE A VERY COLD TUESDAY AND THAT WILL CONTINUE. BUT WE DO STAY DRY, WHICH IS GOOD NEWS. SO PREDICTOR SHOWING A FEW CLOUDS AS WE GO INTO YOUR TUESDAY. HIGH PRESSURE TRIES TO TAKE CONTROL. MAYBE A FEW ISOLATED FLURRIES ON YOUR TUESDAY EVENING. BUT OTHERWISE HIGH PRESSURE WILL TAKE CONTROL. THAT’S ALSO WHY TOMORROW NIGHT I THINK IT’S GOING TO BE THE COLDEST NIGHT WHEN YOU HAVE HIGH PRESSURE RIGHT OVERHEAD AND THE WINDS GO CALM WITH THIS TYPE OF SETUP, WITH THE SNOW TEMPERATURES PLUMMET, THIS IS THE PERFECT RECIPE FOR THOSE TEMPERATURES TO TAKE A NOSEDIVE. SO HERE’S THE WIND CHILL FORECAST TOMORROW MORNING. -10 TO -5. WE HAVE THE SAME THING FOR WEDNESDAY MORNING. WEDNESDAY MORNING MAY EVEN BE A LITTLE BIT COLDER BECAUSE OF THAT HIGH PRESSURE. WE JUST SAW. NOTICE THOUGH, IT DOES GET A LITTLE BIT BETTER SLOWLY TO THURSDAY MORNING AND THEN EVENTUALLY FRIDAY MORNING. WE’RE DONE WITH THE NEGATIVES. SO YOU JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE PREPARED FOR HIGHS IN THE TEENS AND LOWS NEAR ZERO. WITH THOSE TEMPERATURES AND WIND CHILLS GOING TO BE REMAINING THERE AS WE GO THROUGH THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. SO YOUR TEN DAY FORECAST, WE HAVE THOSE SUBZERO WIND CHILLS CONTINUING TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY, LIKE I SAID. BUT NOTICE THAT THE TEMPERATURES DO BEGIN TO MODERATE AS WE HEAD TOWARDS THURSDAY. WE EVENTUALLY GET BACK TO THE 30S FRIDAY AND THEN NEAR AVERAGE SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. OUR AVERAGE HIGH THIS TIME OF YEAR IS 38 AND CLIMATOLOGICALLY SPEAKING, THIS IS THE COLDEST PERIOD OF THE YEAR. IT’S FROM THE 19TH TO THE 26TH WHERE OUR AVERAGES ARE AT THEIR LOWEST. SO THIS IS NOT NECESSARILY UNUSUAL FOR BEING COLD, IT’S JUST THE DURATION OF THE COLD. WE’RE GOING TO SEE SEVERAL DAYS LIKE THIS. AND THEN WE’LL EVENTUALLY WARM THINGS UP AS WE HEAD TOWARDS THE WEEKEND. SO MAKE SURE YOU’RE USING HATS, SCARVES, GLOVES, STAYING BUNDLED UP AND STAYING SAFE THERE OUT IN THE COLD, GUYS, BECAUSE THESE WIND CHILLS ARE DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS. HEY, THAT’S THE SOUND HEARD ACROSS THE SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY TODAY. THE SNOW BLOWER. SO THIS IS DAN MCAVOY CLEARING HIS SIDEWALK ON RALEIGH DRIVE IN SPRINGETTSBURY TOWNSHIP, YORK COUNTY. HIS CHILDREN, LIAM AND LILY, ALSO HELPED OUT BY SHOVELING. IT DOES LOOK LIKE FUN. AND WHAT’S A SNOW STORM WITHOUT A LITTLE BIT OF FUN? NEWS 8 WITH COLE STAKER AS HE WAS SLEDDING AT RIVERFRONT PARK IN WRIGHTSVILLE, YORK COUNTY. IT LOOKS LIKE A GREAT TIME TO CLEANUP FROM YESTERDAY’S. SNOW IS STILL GOING ON. THE MAJOR ROADS ARE CLEAR, BUT SNOW PACKS ARE STILL A PROBLEM ON SECONDARY ROADS. ED WEINSTOCK REPORTS FROM YORK COUNTY ON PENNDOT EFFORTS TODAY ALONG ROUTE 462 IN YORK COUNTY, A PENNDOT TRUCK IS SPRAYING SALT BRINE ON A SNOW COVERED ROAD BETWEEN WRIGHTSVILLE AND HELLAM. PENNDOT HOPES THE BRINE WILL PEEL OFF COMPRESSED SNOW PACKS THAT LINE THE ROAD. THEY’RE TRYING TO GET MATERIAL DOWN SO WE CAN GET THEM SCRAPED OFF TO THE, YOU KNOW, GET THE BLACKTOP SHOWING. PENNDOT HAS SEEN SNOW PACK SHOWING UP ON SECONDARY ROADS. IT CAN TURN INTO A SHEET OF ICE IF TEMPERATURES PLUMMET. PENNDOT SAYS DRIVERS NEED TO BE CAREFUL IF YOU DRIVE SAFELY AND YOU DRIVE RESPONSIBLY, YOU’LL BE OKAY. YOU KNOW, UNTIL WE GET THAT SNOW PACK OFF, THAT’S THE WAY IT’S GOING TO BE. THAT WAS ED WEINSTOCK REPORTING. OF COURSE, MANY ANIMAL LOVERS AND THEIR PETS ENJOYED THE SNOW. THIS IS DAFFY AND TOBY PLAYING BALL WITH THEIR MOM IN EPHRATA, LANCASTER COUNTY, HAVING A GREAT TIME. NEWS 8 SUSAN SHAPIRO HAS MORE ON THIS SNOW DAY AROUND THE SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY. THE SNOW BLOWERS WERE GOING STRONG IN LANCASTER AFTER THE SUNDAY SNOWFALL. SUSAN WISNIEWSKI SAYS SHE LOVES THE SNOW AND DOESN’T MIND THE COLD. AS LONG AS YOU’RE DRESSED WARM, THERE’S NO PROBLEM. I’M READY FOR IT TO BE OVER AND I’M READY FOR THE SPRING. BRING ON THE WARM WEATHER. THANK YOU. THE STUMP KENNEDY FAMILY BRAVED THE COLD TO TAKE A TWO MILE WALK TO AND FROM BUCHANAN PARK. THE CITY STREETS AND EVEN THE SIDEWALKS SEEM TO BE IN DECENT SHAPE. IT’S COLD. IT’S SNOWY. PEOPLE HAVE DONE A PRETTY GOOD JOB CLEARING SIDEWALKS. WE’RE KIND OF IMPRESSED THAT, YOU KNOW, WE THOUGHT IT WOULD TAKE PEOPLE A LITTLE BIT LONGER, BUT IT’S BEEN PRETTY GOOD. THE FAMILY TOOK THAT WALK AFTER SLEDDING HERE AT BUCHANAN PARK. THEY WERE AMONG A NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO WERE SLEDDING, SNOWBOARDING AND EVEN SKIING AT THE PARK. THE SENSATION OF SLIDING THE YOU KNOW, IT’S ALMOST LIKE FLYING SOMETIMES. ED COOKE SAYS. THIS IS THE PERFECT WEATHER FOR CROSS-COUNTRY OR MORE SPECIFICALLY, SKATE SKIING. IT’S A LITTLE COLD, BUT WHEN YOU’RE CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING, WHEN YOU GET WARMED UP, YOU CAN HANDLE ALMOST ANY KIND OF TEMPERATURE YOU CAN IMAGINE AS TEMPERATURES DIP, TRAVEL. CHRISTOPHER TALBOTT, A SCIENCE TEACHER AT DONEGAL HIGH SCHOOL, SPENT SOME TIME TAKING PICTURES OF THE SUSQUEHANNA RIVER. TODAY. HE’S A BIRD PHOTOGRAPHER. YOU SEE THERE HE WAS TAKING PICTURES OF GEESE AND BALD EAGLES AT LONG LEVEL. NICE VIEWS THERE. TikTok ban cited in suspected arson of Rep. Glenn Grothman’s office
FOND DU LAC – A 19-year-old man accused of setting fire to a building in Fond du Lac early Sunday that included Republican U.S. Rep. Glenn Grothman’s office cited the TikTok ban as a motive in the incident, according to authorities.
The Fond du Lac Police Department said the Menasha man was arrested after being found near a strip mall, 525 N. Peters Ave., that contained Grothman’s district office.
Police and fire officials initially responded to the strip mall about 1 a.m. after receiving a report of a fire. The building was unoccupied at the time and no injuries were reported, police said. Fire personnel extinguished the blaze, which began outside the building and burned the building’s outside siding and an air conditioning unit.

Police said the 19-year-old suspect “admitted to starting the fire in response to recent talks of a TikTok ban.” Grothman was among a bipartisan majority of 360 House members who voted last year in favor of a bill that would force TikTok’s Chinese parent company to sell the app or face a ban in the U.S. That ban went into effect over the weekend.
Grothman told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel the fire was contained to outside the building. He said the fire did not appear to get inside but said a staff member who visited the scene told him the office smelled of smoke.
“I don’t even know yet (what happened) other than somebody tried to set a fire over TikTok,” Grothman said in a brief interview Sunday morning.
TikTok stopped working in the U.S. on Saturday after the Supreme Court on Friday upheld the law that effectively banned it. The Supreme Court’s decision sided with the government’s national security concerns about the social media platform and its parent company, ByteDance, over arguments about free speech.
President-elect Donald Trump on Sunday said he would sign an executive order to stall the app’s ban. He is set to take the oath of office on Monday.
TikTok now displays a message explaining to users that a ban was passed but “President Donald Trump has indicated that he will work with us on a solution,” asking users to “stay tuned,” according to USA TODAY.
“We are relieved that no one was injured and the office was unoccupied at the time of the fire,” Fond du Lac Police Chief Aaron Goldstein said in the release about the Fond du Lac fire. “Acts of violence, in any form, are not tolerated, and we remain committed to protecting the safety and well-being of our community. I am thankful for the swift response of our officers in helping knock down the fire and also locating the suspect of this arson.”
The suspect, whose name was not immediately released, is being held at Fond du Lac County Jail and a charge of arson is being referred to Fond du Lac County District Attorney’s Office, police said. Grothman told the Journal Sentinel the suspect was arrested at the scene “because he was just sitting there watching it burn.”
The investigation is in the preliminary stages and remains active, police said. Anyone with information can contact the police department at 920-906-5555 or the Crime Alert line at 920-322-3740, where callers can remain anonymous.
No further information was immediately released about the fire Sunday morning.
Grothman was among hundreds of House members in April last year who voted in favor of the bill to either force TikTok’s parent company to sell the popular social media app or face a ban. Here’s how all U.S. representatives in Wisconsin voted on that legislation:

The recent TikTok ban has been cited as a possible factor in the suspected arson of Rep. Glenn Grothman’s office. The ban on the popular social media app has caused outrage among many users, leading to protests and acts of vandalism. It is believed that individuals who were angered by the ban may have taken their frustration to the extreme by setting fire to Rep. Grothman’s office. The motive behind the alleged arson is still under investigation, but the timing of the incident has raised suspicions.
The ban on TikTok has sparked a debate on free speech and censorship, with many arguing that it is an infringement on users’ rights. However, the violent response to the ban is unacceptable and only serves to further divide and polarize society.
As the investigation into the suspected arson continues, it is important for authorities to determine the true motives behind the attack and hold those responsible accountable. Acts of violence and vandalism are never justified, regardless of one’s beliefs or grievances.

Suspected Chinese underwater spy drone found by fishermen
A submarine drone suspected to be from China was recovered in waters off the central Philippines, police said on Thursday, warning of “potential national security implications.”
Three fishermen found the drone on Monday around six miles off the coast of San Pascual in Masbate province, a police report said.
The Philippines and China have for years clashed over maritime rights in the South China Sea as well as possession of reefs and islets.
China claims almost the entire sea, brushing off rival claims from other countries and an international ruling that its assertion has no legal basis.
The yellow drone marked “HY-119” was found floating at sea before being turned over to authorities, regional police director Andre Dizon told AFP.
It was about six feet long, and torpedo-shaped with fins.
“Based on our open-source research in the internet… HY-119 refers to a Chinese underwater navigation and communication system,” Dizon said.
“It has an antenna and an eye that can be used for viewing. Based on our research, this can be used for monitoring and reconnaissance.”
Dizon said the drone was not armed, but the police report listed “potential national security implications” as one significance of its recovery.
It was turned over by police to the Philippine Navy on Tuesday, Dizon added.
The Philippine Navy and the Chinese embassy in Manila have yet to respond to AFP’s request for comment.
Tensions and military confrontations have escalated in the South China Sea in recent months. In December, Chinese coast guard vessels backed by navy ships fired powerful water cannons and blocked and sideswiped a Philippine patrol vessel. U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines, MaryKay Carlson, accused Beijing in a social media post of putting “lives at risk” by disrupting a Philippine maritime operation.

Also last month, the Philippine military deployed a navy ship and air force planes to shadow a Russian submarine, which passed through the South China Sea. One official said the navy was surprised to see the vessel because it was a “very unique submarine.”
The U.S. has warned that it’s obligated to defend the Philippines if Filipino forces come under attack in the South China Sea.

In a shocking discovery, fishermen off the coast of Japan stumbled upon a suspected Chinese underwater spy drone. The drone was found tangled in the fishermen’s nets, raising concerns about potential espionage activities in the region. The drone, believed to be a sophisticated underwater surveillance device, had Chinese characters and markings on it, further fueling suspicions of its origin. The fishermen immediately reported the find to the authorities, who are now investigating the incident.
This discovery has raised alarms about China’s increasing presence in the waters of the region and its potential use of underwater drones for surveillance purposes. The incident serves as a reminder of the growing tensions in the region and the need for heightened vigilance against potential threats.
As the investigation continues, more details are expected to emerge about the purpose and capabilities of the suspected Chinese underwater spy drone. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.

Philippines recovers suspected Chinese submarine drone from sea
A submarine drone suspected to be from China was recovered in waters off the central Philippines, police said on Thursday, warning of “potential national security implications”.Three fishermen found the drone on Monday around nine kilometres (six miles) off the coast of San Pascual in Masbate province, a police report said.
The Philippines and China have for years clashed over maritime rights in the South China Sea as well as possession of reefs and islets.China claims almost the entire sea, brushing off rival claims from other countries and an international ruling that its assertion has no legal basis.
The yellow drone marked “HY-119” was found floating at sea before being turned over to authorities, regional police director Andre Dizon said.
It was about two metres (six feet) long, and torpedo-shaped with fins.
The Philippines has recovered a suspected Chinese submarine drone from the sea, raising concerns about China’s increasing presence in the disputed waters of the South China Sea.The drone was found by Filipino fishermen near the province of Palawan and was promptly turned over to Philippine authorities for further investigation. The incident comes amid escalating tensions in the region, with China asserting its territorial claims in the South China Sea and engaging in aggressive military maneuvers.
The discovery of the submarine drone has sparked fears of increased surveillance and monitoring activities by China in the strategic waterway, which is claimed by multiple countries including the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Taiwan. The Philippines has long been at odds with China over territorial disputes in the South China Sea, and this latest incident is likely to further strain relations between the two countries.
The Philippine government has yet to release an official statement regarding the recovered drone, but the incident is expected to reignite debates about maritime security and the need for greater vigilance in protecting the country’s territorial waters. As tensions continue to escalate in the South China Sea, it is crucial for the Philippines to remain vigilant and assert its sovereignty in the face of increasing Chinese aggression.
