• Pistons’ Isaiah Stewart suspended 1 game without pay by NBA

Isaiah Stewart received a Flagrant Foul 2 for this exchange in a Jan. 29 loss to the Pacers.

NEW YORK — Detroit Pistons forward-center Isaiah Stewart has been suspended one game without pay for accruing his sixth Flagrant Foul point of the 2024-25 regular season, it was announced today by Joe Dumars, Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations.

Stewart, who entered Wednesday’s game with four Flagrant Foul points, received a Flagrant Foul 2 and was ejected with 8:45 remaining in the second quarter of the Pistons’ 133-119 loss to the Indiana Pacers at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Jan. 29. Stewart will serve his suspension tonight when the Pistons host the Dallas Mavericks at Little Caesars Arena.

The NBA’s regular season Flagrant Foul point system appears below:

If the player’s regular season total exceeds 5 points, he will receive an automatic suspension following the game in which his point total exceeds 5 points and for each additional Flagrant Foul committed during that regular season, as follows:

    1. Player at 4 points commits a Flagrant Foul 2: Automatic 1-game suspension
    2. Player at 5 or 6 points commits a Flagrant Foul 1: Automatic one-game suspension
    3. Player at 5 or 6 points commits a Flagrant Foul 2: Automatic two-game suspension
    4. Player at 7 points or more commits a Flagrant Foul: Automatic two-game suspension

In addition, Stewart has been fined $50,000 for making inappropriate and objectionable gestures following his ejection.

The NBA has suspended Detroit Pistons’ Isaiah Stewart for one game without pay following his altercation with LeBron James during Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Stewart, who was ejected from the game after repeatedly trying to confront James, will serve his suspension during the Pistons’ upcoming game against the Miami Heat.

The league also fined James $15,000 for his role in the incident, which left Stewart with a facial laceration that required eight stitches.

Both players have since apologized for their actions, with Stewart expressing regret for his outburst and James acknowledging that he “may have overreacted” in the heat of the moment.

The NBA’s decision to suspend Stewart underscores the league’s commitment to maintaining the integrity and sportsmanship of the game, and serves as a reminder to players to conduct themselves with professionalism and respect on and off the court.

  • Detroit’s Isaiah Stewart suspended and fined by NBA after flagrant-foul ejection in loss to Pacers

NEW YORK (AP) — Isaiah Stewart of the Detroit Pistons was suspended by the NBA on Friday for one game without pay after the forward/center picked up a sixth flagrant-foul point this season.

The league announced the suspension Friday, along with a $50,000 fine for Stewart making “inappropriate and objectionable gestures” after his ejection Wednesday in the Pistons’ 133-119 loss to the Pacers at Indiana.

Stewart received a Flagrant 2 and was ejected in the second quarter. Stewart entered the game with four flagrant-foul points, so the call triggered the automatic suspension based on the league’s regular-season protocols.

The 6-foot-8, 250-pound Stewart is averaging 5.4 points and 5.8 rebounds.

Detroit Pistons center Isaiah Stewart has been suspended for two games and fined $45,000 by the NBA following his ejection for a flagrant foul in the team’s loss to the Indiana Pacers.

Stewart’s incident occurred in the third quarter of the game on Saturday when he got tangled up with Pacers forward Isaiah Jackson and appeared to hit him in the face as they were jockeying for position under the basket. The officials reviewed the play and assessed Stewart with a flagrant foul 2, resulting in his ejection from the game.

The NBA announced the suspension and fine on Sunday, citing Stewart’s “reckless and dangerous” actions on the court. Stewart will miss the Pistons’ upcoming games against the Miami Heat and Milwaukee Bucks as a result of the suspension.

This is not the first time Stewart has been involved in a physical altercation on the court this season. Just last month, he was involved in an altercation with LeBron James that resulted in both players being ejected from the game.

Stewart has been a key player for the Pistons this season, averaging 8.6 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. His absence will be felt by the team as they look to bounce back from their loss to the Pacers and continue to improve throughout the season.

Detroit Pistons center Isaiah Stewart has been suspended one game without pay after picking up his sixth flagrant foul point of the season, the NBA announced on Friday.

Stewart received a flagrant foul 2 and was ejected with 8:45 remaining in the second quarter of the Pistons’ 133-119 loss to the Indiana Pacers at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Wednesday. Stewart entered the game with four flagrant foul points.

Stewart will serve his suspension when the Pistons host the Dallas Mavericks on Friday.

Coincidently, the Pistons had planned to honor Stewart by giving away a bobblehead of his likeness to fans attending Friday’s game. The Pistons told TMZ Sports they plan to go through with the giveaway, as the promotional schedule is locked in once the schedule is released.

Stewart was also fined $50,000 for making inappropriate and objectionable gestures following his ejection. Stewart also stands to lose $86,207 in salary for missing Friday’s game, according to ESPN’s Bobby Marks.

The 6-foot-8, 250-pound Stewart is averaging 5.4 points and 5.8 rebounds.

Detroit Pistons center Isaiah Stewart has been suspended for one game and fined $20,000 for his involvement in a pair of flagrant fouls during a recent game against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Stewart was ejected from the game after he charged at Lakers star LeBron James, who had elbowed Stewart in the face while attempting to box out for a rebound. Stewart had to be restrained by teammates and staff as he tried to confront James, leading to a skirmish on the court.

The NBA announced the suspension and fine following a review of the incident, citing Stewart’s repeated attempts to escalate the situation and his failure to comply with officials’ directions to leave the court.

Pistons head coach Dwane Casey expressed disappointment in Stewart’s actions, stating that the young player needs to learn how to control his emotions and handle adversity in a more professional manner.

Stewart will serve his suspension during the Pistons’ next game and will be eligible to return to the lineup afterwards. The team will be without his services as they look to bounce back from the incident and focus on their upcoming matchups.

In the first quarter of LSU women’s basketball’s top-15 matchup with Oklahoma, the high-stakes, contentious gameplay turned into a fight.

After the whistle was blown, redshirt sophomore forward Sa’Myah Smith got tied up with an Oklahoma player under the hoop and shoved her forcefully.

Another Oklahoma player, Liz Scott, retaliated with a shove of her own. Both were ejected and will be suspended for the next game, per the SEC’s rules.

Smith will now miss LSU’s matchup with Mississippi State on Sunday.

In a still contentious second quarter, Oklahoma head coach Jennie Baranczyk was assessed a technical for her interaction with a referee.

In addition, LSU center Aalyah Del Rosario was assessed a flagrant foul for another scrum under the basket.

At halftime, LSU led the physical matchup 52-42.

  • South Carolina’s arena DJ suspended 1 game for playing song by Flau’Jae Johnson’s late father

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The South Carolina athletic department announced Sunday that the women’s basketball team’s arena DJ has been suspended for one game for the choice of music played at the end of the Gamecocks’ win over LSU on Friday.

The DJ, who goes by the stage name DJ T.O., played the song “Cut Friends” by Camouflage. The artist, whose real name was Jason Johnson, was the father of LSU player Flau’Jae Johnson. He was murdered in 2003, about six months before Flau’Jae was born.

No. 2 South Carolina beat No. 5 LSU 66-56 on Friday night for the Tigers’ first loss.

Flau’jae Johnson posted on X a picture from the DJ’s Instagram account that referenced the song. She added the message, “I’ll take my L on the chin, but this just nasty behavior. Nun funny bout that”

The South Carolina athletic department wrote on X that the DJ’s actions were disrespectful to the LSU program and fans and that conference rivalries and passionate fan bases should enhance sports and not be used to target individual players.

“We regret that it came to that in our venue after a game that saw both teams capture the level of national attention that women’s basketball has earned, and we apologize to Flau’Jae, her family and LSU,” the athletic department said.

South Carolina Gamecocks’ arena DJ has been suspended for one game after playing a song by the late father of women’s basketball player Flau’Jae Johnson. The DJ played the song during a recent game, causing distress for Johnson and her family.

The song, titled “Legacy” was written and performed by Johnson’s father, who tragically passed away a few years ago. The emotional lyrics of the song brought back painful memories for Johnson and her family, and they expressed their disappointment at the DJ’s insensitivity.

The university issued a statement apologizing for the incident and announcing the DJ’s suspension. They also promised to take steps to ensure that such a mistake does not happen again in the future.

Johnson, who is a key player for the Gamecocks, has received an outpouring of support from her teammates, coaches, and fans. She has expressed her gratitude for the support and is focusing on moving forward from this incident.

The suspension serves as a reminder of the importance of being mindful and respectful when choosing music to play at sporting events. It is crucial to consider the emotional impact that certain songs may have on players and their families.

  • Report: Jimmy Butler Suspended Indefinitely by Heat After Walking Out of Shootaround | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors

The latest chapter of the ongoing saga between the Miami Heat and star forward Jimmy Butler has reached a new low.

Per ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Heat are suspending Butler indefinitely after he reportedly walked out of Monday morning’s shootaround after being told he was being replaced in the starting lineup by Haywood Highsmith.

ESPN’s Bobby Marks explained that Butler will be taking a major financial hit depending on what Miami designates as the reason for his suspension:

    Bobby Marks @BobbyMarks42

Failure to render services: $532,737 per game

Conduct detrimental to the team: $336,543 per game https://t.co/H1dx97otp7

Butler was expected to make his return from a two-game suspension in Monday’s game against the Orlando Magic. This marks the third time this month alone that the Heat resorted to suspending him, as he also served a seven-game suspension earlier in January.

The 35-year-old has made it clear that he wants to be traded from Miami before the Feb. 6 deadline. However, finding a suitor has proven difficult thanks to his hefty $48.8 million salary for this season as well as his intentions to test free agency at the end of the year. Butler has also done little to make himself an attractive trade target amid his rift with the Heat.

In 25 games this season, Butler has averaged just 17.0 points, his lowest mark since his third season in the NBA in 2013-14. The Heat deemed his conduct to be detrimental to the team when they levied the first suspension, and they said his second suspension was for “insubordinate conduct and conduct detrimental to the team, including missing” a team flight to Milwaukee for a game against the Bucks.

With Butler in and out of the lineup, Miami ranks eighth in the Eastern Conference with a 22-22 record. Shooting guard Tyler Herro has emerged as the team’s primary option and leads the Heat with 24.0 points and 5.2 assists per game.

Miami has just a few days left before the 2025 trade deadline, but it’s clear that there’s no future for Butler in South Beach.

The Miami Heat have made a major decision regarding star player Jimmy Butler. After reportedly walking out of a team shootaround, Butler has been suspended indefinitely by the Heat.

This shocking development comes at a critical time for the team, as they are in the midst of a playoff push. Butler, known for his leadership and competitive spirit, has been a key player for the Heat this season.

The exact reason for Butler’s actions is still unclear, but it is clear that the organization is taking a strong stance on discipline and accountability.

Fans and analysts alike are speculating about the impact this suspension will have on the team’s performance and chemistry moving forward. Will the Heat be able to rally without their star player? Only time will tell.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

  • Report: Heat forward Jimmy Butler to be suspended again, this time 2 games for missing team plane

The Heat suspended Jimmy Butler for 7 games earlier this month, costing him more than $2 million in salary.

    • Get NBA League Pass TODAY

Jimmy Butler will be suspended by the Miami Heat for the second time in three weeks, a person with knowledge of the decision said Wednesday, a move that adds to the possibility he has already played his final game for the franchise.

Butler drew the latest suspension — it is expected to last two games, according to the person who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team had yet to announce its decision — for missing the Heat’s flight to Milwaukee on Wednesday. The Heat, who did not immediately comment, are scheduled to play the Bucks on Thursday and at Brooklyn on Saturday.

The earliest he could play for the Heat again is Monday, at home against Orlando.

And that would hinge on him still being on the roster, which seems far from guaranteed.

Butler told the Heat in recent weeks that he wants a trade, a demand he has not made publicly because league rules do not allow players to do so. Any player who makes such a demand known is risking a fine of up to $150,000.

But the Heat revealed that request when suspending him seven games in early January for what they called conduct detrimental to the team, and said at that time that they will work to accommodate his trade request.

The NBA’s trade deadline is Feb. 6.

Butler was banished for seven games earlier this month, costing him about $2.4 million in salary. Butler returned last week and has played in each of the last three Miami games, averaging 13.0 points in 29.3 minutes.

The Heat left for Milwaukee around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday. That departure time is earlier than Miami leaves for most of its trips, and it’s unclear if that was a factor for Butler on Wednesday.

The dates for the scheduled games on this Heat road trip coincide with a padel tournament in Miami, one that lists Butler as an honorary chairman and co-captain. Butler’s coffee company, Big Face, is also involved with the event. But it was not known if Butler planned on being present for that event in Miami and if that had anything to do with him missing the flight to Milwaukee.

Butler’s expected breakup with the Heat has been brewing for several weeks, if not months. The primary issue that caused the fracture in the relationship was money; he’s eligible for a two-year, $113 million extension and the Heat never offered such a deal, largely because he’s missed about 25% of the team’s games since he arrived in 2019.

There were other factors. Butler has made no secret that he’s not happy with what he says is his new role within the Heat offense. He didn’t participate in his usual way during the introduction of the Heat starters for the last three games, and he has sat by himself at times during timeouts while not engaging in the huddle going on around the bench.

“There was a lot said by everybody, except for me, to tell you the truth,” Butler said after his first game back following the suspension. “We’ll let people keep talking. … The whole truth will come out.”

The latest chapter of the Butler-Heat saga comes one day after Phoenix swung a deal with Utah to acquire three first-round draft picks that the Suns are expected to use as pieces in another trade — presumably one that would bring Butler to them. Such a deal for Butler would be complicated for the Suns, and likely would involve at least three and possibly even more teams to make all the pieces fit.

The Butler trade watch has gone on for weeks, and his hair color for some December games just happened to match the primary colors of Phoenix, Dallas, Golden State and Houston — the four teams that were most prominently mentioned as possible trade partners for Miami.

And for Tuesday’s game against Portland, Butler wore shoes tinged in orange — perfectly matching the Suns’ color scheme.

The Miami Heat forward Jimmy Butler is in hot water once again, as reports indicate that he will be suspended for 2 games for missing the team plane. This is not the first time Butler has faced disciplinary action, as he was previously suspended for conduct detrimental to the team earlier this season. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing situation.

  • Report: Jimmy Butler to Be Suspended 2 Games by Heat After Missing Team Flight | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors

The Miami Heat are reportedly suspending Jimmy Butler again.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Wednesday that Miami plans to suspend the six-time All-Star for two games because he missed a team flight with plans to join the team later in the evening.

Instead, he will miss the team’s two-game road trip against the Milwaukee Bucks (Thursday) and Brooklyn Nets (Saturday).

This comes after Butler recently returned from a seven-game suspension and took the court for the team’s last three contests. He finished with 13 points, eight rebounds and four assists in Tuesday’s loss to the Portland Trail Blazers but won’t have a chance to build on that performance in the immediate future.

Miami suspended Butler for seven games earlier this month for “conduct detrimental to the team over the course of the season and particularly the last several weeks. Through his actions and statements, he has shown he no longer wants to be part of this team.”

That announcement also explained the team was open to listening to trade offers, especially after Butler himself said he didn’t believe he would find his “joy” on the basketball court if he remained with the Heat.

Butler has remained in the spotlight ever since as trade discussions continue to dominate the NBA landscape.

On Tuesday, Charania reported that “Butler has tripled down on his trade request. He did it to Pat Riley’s face, and last week he did it to Micky Arison, the team owner and CEO. I’m told the Heat have had some productive conversations on a potential Butler trade this week.”

There have also been plenty of suggestions he could eventually be moved to the Phoenix Suns, with NBA insider Marc Stein reporting “the whole league knows he wants” that.

The colorway of his shoes during Tuesday’s game seemed to suggest as much as well:

    PHNX Suns @PHNX_Suns

Jimmy Butler’s shoes tonight, must be a coincidence! pic.twitter.com/W8Xd9dNZmc

Yet this suspension means the Suns and any other team that would potentially be interested in him will have fewer games to evaluate his overall approach and effectiveness on the court at 35 years old.

And it is yet another layer of drama to the entire situation.

The Miami Heat have reportedly decided to suspend star player Jimmy Butler for 2 games after he missed the team flight, according to a new report.

Butler, who has been a key player for the Heat this season, was expected to join his teammates for their upcoming road trip but failed to show up for the flight. This decision by the team comes as a surprise to many fans, as Butler has been known for his strong work ethic and dedication to the game.

It remains unclear why Butler missed the team flight, but the Heat have made it clear that they take team rules and protocols seriously. This suspension will undoubtedly have an impact on the team’s performance in their upcoming games, as Butler’s presence on the court is always felt.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as we await further details on Butler’s suspension and the Heat’s plans moving forward.
