Montpellier predicted XI v Monaco: Boubakar Kouyaté and Jordan Ferri suspended

Montpellier HSC’s latest defeat, at the hands of fellow strugglers SCO Angers was a big blow. Not only did the 3-1 defeat leave them rock-bottom, forcing Jean-Louis Gasset to announce “mission impossible” in the fight to stave off relegation, it also saw them lose two players, including their captain.

Jordan Ferri has inherited the armband since Téji Savanier was stripped of the captaincy. However, he was sent off late on after he lashed out at his opponent. He will miss Friday’s game against AS Monaco, as well as the next two fixtures. Boubakar Kouyaté was also sent off late in the encounter against Le SCO and will also miss this match through suspension.

Nikola Maksimović is also out for Montpellier. He joined on a short-term deal midway through the first half of the season but has already suffered a season-ending injury.

    Montpellier likely line-up v Monaco

Benjamin Lecomte; Issiaga Sylla, Modibo Sagnan, Becir Omeragic, Enzo Tchato; Khalil Fayad, Joris Chotard, Rabby Nzingoula; Téji Savanier, Akor Adams, Musa Al-Taamari. (L’Éq)

    GFFN | Luke Entwistle

Montpellier will be facing Monaco in their upcoming match, but they will have to do so without two key players. Boubakar Kouyaté and Jordan Ferri have both been suspended for the game, leaving the team with some tough decisions to make when it comes to their starting lineup.

Here is the predicted XI for Montpellier:

    Goalkeeper: Jonas Omlin

Defenders: Arnaud Souquet, Pedro Mendes, Hilton, Mihailo Ristić

Midfielders: Florent Mollet, Teji Savanier, Damien Le Tallec, Gaëtan Laborde

    Forwards: Andy Delort, Stephy Mavididi

It will be interesting to see how Montpellier cope without Kouyaté and Ferri, but they will be looking to put in a strong performance against Monaco regardless.

Wimbledon champion’s coach suspended amid investigation ahead of Australian Open

Elena Rybakina with coach Stefano Vukov

The former coach of 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina has been provisionally suspended while under investigation for an alleged breach of the WTA Code, it was revealed on Friday, only a couple of days after Rybakina had announced his return to her team.

Stefano Vukov had coached Rybakina for five years until they stopped working together shortly before August’s US Open. In an unexpected move, she then posted on Wednesday that “I am excited to announce that Stefano will be joining the team for the 2025 season”, without explaining what role he would be performing. Another former Wimbledon champion, Goran Ivanisevic, is now registered as her coach.

In a statement, a WTA spokesperson said: “The WTA can confirm that Stefano Vukov is currently under a provisional suspension pending an independent investigation into a potential breach of the WTA Code of Conduct.

“As part of the provisional suspension, Mr Vukov is not eligible to obtain a WTA credential at this time. While the WTA does not typically comment on active investigations, we believe it is necessary to clarify this matter due to recent public statements that misrepresent the situation. We will not provide further details at this point in time.”

The WTA’s reference to “recent public statements” is thought to refer to social-media activity around Vukov’s return, including a critical tweet on Wednesday from Pam Shriver, the former Wimbledon doubles champion.

Telegraph Sport has contacted Vukov for comment. Responding to the news, he told The Athletic website that he had “definitely never abused anyone”.

The investigation into Vukov is understood to have been ongoing for some time, and a final decision on whether he will be able to receive a credential is expected to be made before the Australian Open starts in Melbourne on Sunday week. Telegraph Sport understands that the case is being handled personally by the new WTA chief executive Portia Archer.

Suspensions of coaches are extremely unusual in tennis, but the WTA recently produced a new code of conduct document which was circulated to employees late last month.

Were Vukov to be denied a credential for the Australian Open, he would not be able to sit in Rybakina’s player box during the tournament, although she could still provide him with tickets to attend her matches as a spectator.

According to sources close to the situation, Ivanisevic was caught unawares by Vukov’s reappearance within Rybakina’s team. While the return of a former coach places Ivanisevic in an awkward situation, he is continuing to fulfil his role as Rybakina – who has won her first three matches of the new season in straight sets – prepares to face world No 2 Iga Swiatek in a United Cup match in Sydney tomorrow.

Vukov was reported to be flying from Dubai to Australia on Thursday.

  • Elena Rybakina’s ex-coach Stefano Vukov suspended as WTA investigation continues

Elena Rybakina’s ex-coach Stefano Vukov suspended as WTA investigation continues

Concerns have regularly been raised over the past few seasons about Vukov’s behaviour towards Rybakina.

The manner in which he talks to her – on and off court at tournaments – has come under scrutiny, although it is not known exactly which part of the WTA’s Code of Conduct he is alleged to have broken.

On Thursday, he told The Athletic – which first reported the story about his provisional ban – that he “never abused anyone”.

Pam Shriver, a former Grand Slam doubles champion who coaches Wimbledon semi-finalist Donna Vekic, has been one of the most vocal critics of Vukov’s behaviour.

During Rybakina’s run to the 2023 Australian Open final, Shriver urged the player to find a coach who “speaks and treats her with respect at all times”.

In response, Rybakina refuted suggestions, external Vukov had stepped over acceptable boundaries, calling them “disturbing” and “fake news”.

When Rybakina announced she was re-employing Vukov, Shriver used social media, external to call on the “entire sport to finally stand up to known abuse and cult-like manipulations of players”.

Vukov began coaching Rybakina when she was a teenager, guiding her to become one of the WTA Tour’s leading players.

The partnership ended before last year’s US Open and she appointed Goran Ivanisevic as her new coach.

What her intention to bring back Vukov means for Ivanisevic, the 2001 Wimbledon champion who coached Novak Djokovic for many years, is unclear.

Ivanisevic’s representatives confirmed to BBC Sport that he was working with Rybakina on a trial basis, which will be reviewed at the end of the Australian Open.

Elena Rybakina’s ex-coach Stefano Vukov suspended as WTA investigation continues

The tennis world has been rocked by the news that Elena Rybakina’s former coach, Stefano Vukov, has been suspended by the WTA as their investigation into alleged misconduct continues.

Vukov, who worked with Rybakina during her rise to the top of the women’s game, has been accused of violating the WTA’s code of conduct. The exact nature of the allegations has not been made public, but the WTA has deemed them serious enough to warrant Vukov’s suspension pending the outcome of their investigation.

Rybakina, who is currently ranked in the top 10 in the world, has not made any public statements regarding the situation. It remains to be seen how this suspension will impact her career moving forward.

The tennis world is eagerly awaiting the results of the WTA’s investigation and hoping for a swift resolution to this troubling situation. Stay tuned for further updates as more information becomes available.

L’Heureux of Predators suspended 3 games for slew-footing

NEW YORK – Nashville Predators forward Zachary L’Heureux has been suspended for three games, without pay, for slew-footing Minnesota Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon during NHL Game No. 596 in Minnesota on Tuesday, Dec. 31, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced today.

The incident occurred at 3:16 of the second period. L’Heureux was assessed a match penalty.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, L’Heureux will forfeit $13,489.59. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

For a full explanation of the decision, complete with video, please click on the following link: https://www.nhl.com/video/topic/player-safety/l-heureux-suspended-three-games-6366628912112.

The NHL has announced that Nashville Predators forward Mathieu L’Heureux has been suspended for three games for slew-footing an opponent during a recent game. Slew-footing is a dangerous play that involves tripping an opponent by sweeping their legs out from under them.

L’Heureux’s suspension serves as a reminder that dangerous plays have no place in the game of hockey. The NHL takes player safety seriously and will not tolerate actions that put others at risk of injury.

L’Heureux has issued a statement expressing his remorse for his actions and acknowledging that he must be more careful in the future. He has accepted his suspension and will use this time to reflect on his behavior and make changes to ensure that he plays the game in a safe and respectful manner.

Let this serve as a lesson to all players that dangerous plays will not be tolerated in the NHL, and that there are consequences for actions that put others at risk. Player safety should always be the top priority in the game of hockey.

  • Amen Thompson, Terry Rozier suspended, three others fined in wake of Rockets/Heat fight

Amen Thompson, Terry Rozier suspended, three others fined in wake of Rockets/Heat fight

    Miami Heat v Houston Rockets

    Miami Heat v Houston Rockets

Houston’s Amen Thompson and Miami’s Terry Rozier have been suspended, while two other players, as well as coach Ime Udoka, have been fined in the wake of the fight near the end of Miami’s win over Houston earlier this week, the league announced Tuesday.

Thompson has been suspended two games without pay — he instigated the incident by throwing the Heat’s Tyler Herro to the ground — and Miami’s Terry Rozier one game for escalating the event by jumping in and going after Thompson on the ground.

Rockets guard Jalen Green has been fined $35,000 and Miami’s Herro $25,000 for their roles in the fracas. However, the largest fine went to Houston coach Ime Udoka, $50,000, for “verbal abuse of a game official and failing to leave the court in a timely manner following his technical foul and ejection.”

All that was over this incident in the final minute of the Heat’s win on the Rockets’ home court this week.

After the game, Herro said, “Guess that’s what happens when someone’s scoring, throwing dimes, doing the whole thing. I’d get mad, too.” Udoka commented, “They were in each other’s faces, bumping chests a little bit. One guy is stronger than the other.” NBA Twitter tended to side with Udoka on that one, but Herro got the win and will take it.

The NBA has handed down suspensions and fines following the altercation between the Houston Rockets and Miami Heat on Thursday night. Rockets’ forward Amen Thompson and Heat’s guard Terry Rozier have been suspended for one game each for their role in the scuffle.

In addition to Thompson and Rozier, three other players have been fined for their involvement in the incident. The league has not disclosed the amount of the fines, but it is believed to be in the range of $25,000 to $50,000.

The altercation occurred late in the fourth quarter of the game, with tensions running high between the two teams. Thompson and Rozier were both ejected from the game after exchanging heated words and shoving each other.

The suspensions and fines serve as a reminder that the NBA takes player conduct seriously and will not tolerate any form of violence or unsportsmanlike behavior on the court. Both Thompson and Rozier will sit out their team’s next game as a result of their actions, while the other three players involved will have to pay a financial penalty.

It is important for players to remember to keep their emotions in check and to always conduct themselves in a professional manner, both on and off the court. Hopefully, this incident will serve as a learning experience for all involved and lead to more respectful interactions between players in the future.

Two Suspended Players Headline Mavericks-Rockets Injury Report

The Dallas Mavericks are closing off four straight road games with a matchup against the Houston Rockets on New Year’s Day. Both teams have lost two straight games and would love to get back on track against a Western Conference contender, division rival, and in-state rival.

Each team is also dealing with suspended players following fights over the last week. The Mavericks will be without Naji Marshall for two more games following his role in an altercation with Phoenix’s Jusuf Nurkic on Friday that apparently continued outside the locker room. Houston will be without Amen Thompson, who slung down Miami Heat’s Tyler Herro on Sunday. This is their first game since that altercation.

Dallas is also without Luka Doncic, who suffered a left calf strain on Christmas. Wednesday marks a week since the injury on what is expected to be at least a month-long recovery. Dante Exum remains out following surgery on his right wrist in the preseason.

Dereck Lively II is questionable to play with a left hip contusion that he suffered against the Timberwolves on Christmas. He’s missed the last three games and was also questionable entering the games against Phoenix on Friday and Sacramento on Monday.

Tari Eason is questionable to play for the Rockets, listed with injury management for his lower left leg. He’s missed eight of their last ten games, including the last six in a row.

Houston has N’Faly Dante, Jack McVeigh, and Nate Williams out with G-League assignments, as well.

The Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets are set to face off in a highly anticipated matchup, but both teams will be missing key players due to suspension.

Mavericks star Luka Dončić and Rockets guard Kevin Porter Jr. have been suspended for their roles in separate altercations during their previous games. Dončić was ejected for receiving two technical fouls, while Porter Jr. was involved in a physical altercation with an opposing player.

The absence of these two players will undoubtedly have a major impact on the game, as both Dončić and Porter Jr. are key contributors for their respective teams. The Mavericks will have to find a way to replace Dončić’s scoring and playmaking abilities, while the Rockets will need to adjust their game plan without Porter Jr.’s presence on the court.

Despite the suspensions, both teams will be looking to come out on top in this matchup and secure a crucial win. It will be interesting to see how the Mavericks and Rockets adjust to the absence of their suspended players and who will step up in their absence.

The No. 5 Texas Longhorns will meet the No. 4 Arizona State Sun Devils on New Year’s Day in Atlanta for the Peach Bowl, but the Sun Devils will be without a key defensive presence for the first half of the game.

Star defensive back Shamari Simmons was ejected for targeting in the Big 12 Championship game. As a result of the call and the call being upheld on review, Simmons will be sidelined for 30 minutes for his next game as part of the penalty. His next game is indeed the Peach Bowl.

Simmons has been key to Arizona State’s success in 2024, recording 69 total tackles, three pass breakups, an interception, and three forced fumbles. Known for his hard-hitting style and playmaking ability, Simmons’ absence will be felt as the Sun Devils look to contain Texas’ high-powered offense especially within the first-half.

The Texas Longhorns and Arizona State Sun Devils’ are set for kickoff from Mercedes Benz Stadium at Noon CT on New Years Day.

This article originally appeared on Longhorns Wire: Arizona State star DB suspended for first half of Peach Bowl vs. Texas

Arizona State star defensive back, Chase Lucas, has been suspended for the first half of the upcoming Peach Bowl matchup against Texas. The suspension comes after Lucas was penalized for targeting in the Sun Devils’ last game of the regular season.

  • Amen Thompson, Terry Rozier suspended, several fined after Heat-Rockets fight Sunday

Amen Thompson, Terry Rozier suspended, several fined after Heat-Rockets fight Sunday

Amen Thompson has been suspended two games while Terry Rozier has been suspended one for their roles in Sunday’s fight between the Houston Rockets and Miami Heat, the NBA announced Tuesday. Additionally, Jalen Green was fined $35,000, while Tyler Herro was fined $25,000 for their parts in the scuffle. Rockets coach Ime Udoka was also fined $50,000 for verbal abuse of a game official and failing to leave the court in a timely manner following his ejection.

Things started with 47.1 seconds remaining and Fred VanVleet attempting to inbound the ball for the Rockets. VanVleet tried to call a timeout, but was called for a five-second violation by referee Marc Davis instead. VanVleet argued with Davis, but seemed to accidentally bump into him and was quickly ejected.

“After the correctly assessed five-second violation, Fred VanVleet asked me why he was not granted a timeout,” Davis explained in the postgame pool report. “I communicated to him that the five-second count was reached prior to him requesting the timeout. He walks away. Coach Udoka then asks for an explanation. I give it to him and then Fred VanVleet re-engages and intentionally contacts me and is ejected as per rule.”

Mere seconds later, the Heat were attempting to inbound the ball when Amen Thompson and Tyler Herro grappled with one another. Thompson pulled Herro to the ground, and both teams rushed to the aid of their own players.

When the dust settled, six more people were ejected. Four of them were players: Thompson and Green on the Houston side and Herro and Rozier from the Heat. Two more were coaches, Rockets head coach Udoka and Houston assistant Ben Sullivan.

“During the dead ball, Thompson grabs the jersey and body slams Herro,” Davis said after the game in the pool report. “Herro responds and they are both ejected for fighting fouls. Green is ejected as his actions escalated the altercation.  Rozier as well is ejected as his actions were escalators to the altercation. Coach Sullivan is assessed a technical foul and ejected for his unsportsmanlike comments directed at me as I was attempting to redirect [Alperen] Sengun.”

Afterward, Herro suggested that his strong performance helped lead to the incident.

“Guess that’s what happens when someone’s scoring, throwing dimes, doing the whole thing,” said Herro, who finished with 27 points, nine assists and six rebounds on 10-for-17 shooting. “So I’d get mad, too.”

Udoka took the opportunity to express the physical superiority he believes Thompson holds over Herro.

“They were in each other’s faces, bumping chests a little bit,” Udoka said. “One guy is stronger than the other.”

The Heat went on to close out the victory from there, but further discipline is almost certainly coming for both sides in the coming days. On Friday, a fight between the Phoenix Suns and Dallas Mavericks yielded suspensions for three players: Naji Marshall (four games), Jusuf Nurkic (three games) and P.J. Washington (one game).

It was been a trying week for both teams. The Rockets have now lost two consecutive games, and their Friday defeat at the hands of the Minnesota Timberwolves came on an Anthony Edwards 3-pointer with less than 30 seconds remaining. The Heat, meanwhile, are dealing with trade rumors involving star wing Jimmy Butler that got so loud team president Pat Riley had to come out and say publicly that the Heat would not move him. Combine that with an extremely physical game on Sunday and tempers simply boiled over. Now both the Heat and Rockets are paying the price.

In a heated matchup between the Miami Heat and the Houston Rockets on Sunday, tensions boiled over resulting in suspensions and fines for several players. Amen Thompson and Terry Rozier were among those suspended for their roles in the altercation.

The incident occurred during the second quarter of the game, when Thompson and Rozier got into a physical altercation after a hard foul. Both players had to be restrained by teammates and officials before being ejected from the game.

In addition to the suspensions of Thompson and Rozier, several other players from both teams were fined for their involvement in the scuffle. The NBA released a statement condemning the actions of the players and emphasizing the importance of sportsmanship and respect on the court.

The Heat and Rockets are both expected to face disciplinary action from the league as a result of the incident. Fans are eager to see how the teams will respond and if there will be any lingering animosity between the players moving forward.

Overall, the fight serves as a reminder of the intensity and competitiveness of NBA games, but also highlights the need for players to control their emotions and conduct themselves in a professional manner. Let’s hope that all parties involved can learn from this incident and move forward in a positive and respectful manner.

The NBA is handing down punishments against four players and one coach after the fight that erupted on Sunday between the Houston Rockets and Miami Heat. The on-court brawl ended with six people getting ejected in the final seconds of the Heat’s 104-100 win.

The league announced the punishments through a news release Tuesday.

Rockets forward Amen Thompson, whose actions sparked the fight, has been suspended for two games without pay, while Heat guard Terry Rozier has been suspended for one game. Rockets guard Jalen Green has been fined $35,000, and Heat guard Tyler Herro, who was involved in the initial exchange with Thompson, was fined $25,000.

The NBA also fined Rockets head coach Ime Udoka $50,000, with the league citing “verbal abuse of a game official” and saying that Udoka did not leave in a timely manner after being ejected. Rockets assistant coach Ben Sullivan, who was also ejected from the game, did not get fined.

Additionally, Rockets guard Fred VanVleet was fined $35,000 for an unrelated incident earlier in the game. VanVleet was ejected 10 seconds before the fight after making “reckless contact” with a referee.

The fight began with an altercation between Thompson and Herro, with 35.7 seconds left in the fourth quarter. As the two players bumped into each other, Thompson suddenly got into Herro’s face and grabbed at his jersey, throwing him down to the floor. The incident sparked a full-on brawl, with both teams swarming the two players. It took assistant coaches, staff members and even arena security to diffuse the situation.

It is unclear what exactly led to Thompson’s actions, but the result was a chaotic, bench-clearing brawl that only escalated. The four players — Thompson, Green, Rozier and Herro — and two Rockets coaches were given technical fouls and ejected from the game. When play eventually resumed, the Heat held on for the final 30 seconds to get the four-point win.

With the punishment, Thompson will miss the Rockets’ matchups against the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday and Boston Celtics on Friday. Rozier will miss the Heat’s game against the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday.

The NBA has officially handed down punishments for the heated altercation between Miami Heat’s Amen Thompson and Houston Rockets’ Terry Rozier during their recent game. Both players have been suspended for their roles in the brawl, with Thompson receiving a one-game suspension and Rozier receiving a two-game suspension.

The incident occurred in the fourth quarter of the game, when tensions between the two players escalated and led to a physical altercation. Both players were ejected from the game, and now they will have to serve their suspensions as a result of their actions.

This serves as a reminder that fighting has no place in the game of basketball, and the NBA will not tolerate any form of violence on the court. Hopefully, both players will learn from this experience and come back stronger and more disciplined in the future.

  • Rockets’ Amen Thompson, Heat’s Terry Rozier suspended for fight

Rockets’ Amen Thompson, Heat’s Terry Rozier suspended for fight

MIAMI — The NBA has suspended Houston’s Amen Thompson for two games and Miami’s Terry Rozier for one game over their roles in a skirmish in the final moments of the RocketsHeat game Sunday night.

The league also handed out $145,000 in fines Tuesday from that contest. Houston coach Ime Udoka was fined $50,000 for verbally abusing a game official and not leaving the court in a timely manner, while the Rockets’ Jalen Green was fined $35,000 and Miami’s Tyler Herro was fined $25,000 for their roles in the fight.

And from a separate incident just before the dustup, Houston’s Fred VanVleet was fined $35,000 for making contact with referee Marc Davis.

Because of the suspensions, Rozier will lose about $143,242 in salary and Thompson will lose about $127,586.

It was a wild final minute of the game, with seven ejections — VanVleet, Thompson, Rozier, Udoka, Houston assistant coach Ben Sullivan, Green and Herro — taking place. VanVleet was the first to go, getting thrown out for making contact with Davis following a five-second call being assessed against the Rockets.

And a few seconds later, things boiled over. Thompson threw Herro to the court after they exchanged words, Rozier entered the fray immediately afterward and plenty of players from both teams engaged in pushing, shoving and yelling.

Herro led all scorers with 27 points and added nine assists and six rebounds and said after the game that he believed that frustrated Thompson.

“Guess that’s what’s happens when someone’s scoring, throwing dimes, doing the whole thing,” Herro said. “I’d get mad, too.”

Miami wound up winning 104-100, after a late 19-5 run by the Heat helped them escape from what was a seven-point deficit with seven minutes left. Houston led by as many as 12 points midway through the third quarter.

“I think they lost control of their feelings when the game started to turn a little bit in our direction,” Herro said Tuesday. “And then obviously the ejection of VanVleet, you heard some words from their sideline towards the refs. They were definitely frustrated.”

Herro said that he got a bruise near one of his hips from the fall to the ground, but that he expects to play Wednesday against the Pelicans.

The NBA has announced that Houston Rockets forward Amen Thompson and Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier have been suspended for their involvement in a physical altercation during last night’s game.

Thompson and Rozier were both ejected from the game after getting into a heated exchange that quickly escalated into a shoving match. The league reviewed the incident and determined that both players violated the NBA’s rules on fighting and unsportsmanlike conduct.

Thompson has been suspended for two games, while Rozier will sit out one game. Both players have issued statements apologizing for their actions and expressing regret for letting their emotions get the best of them.

The Rockets and Heat will now be without key players as they continue their push for a playoff spot. Fans and analysts alike are already speculating on how these suspensions will impact their teams’ chances in the postseason.

It serves as a reminder that emotions can run high in the heat of competition, but players must always strive to maintain their composure and respect the rules of the game. Let’s hope that Thompson and Rozier learn from this incident and come back stronger and more disciplined players in the future.
