Bangladesh women’s cricket team were whitewashed in their three-match T20I series against hosts West Indies as the Tigresses suffered a five-wicket defeat in their third and final T20I at Warner Park on Saturday.

After being asked to bat first, Bangladesh could only manage 104 for eight in 20 overs, with skipper Nigar Sultana Joty scoring a team-high 43-ball 33. It was yet another meek batting display by the Tigresses as only three other batters were able to reach double figures — wicketkeeper-batter and opener Dilara Akter Dola hit a 16-ball 21, Murshida Khatun scored 13 off 12 while Taj Nehar scored a run-a-ball 10.

Jannillea Glasgow starred with the ball in hand for the hosts, returning figures of three for 15 in four overs.

Bangladesh, however, got off to a promising start in their defense of a low total as off-spinner Sultana Khatun removed Windies opener Nerissa Crafton (5 off 4) in the second over to leave the hosts at seven for one after 1.2 overs.

The Tigresses managed to remove half of the Windies’ line-up by the 12th over, having the hosts in a spot of bother at five for 61 in 11.2 overs. However, a 44-run unbeaten sixth-wicket stand between Shabika Gajnabi (27 off 25*) and Zaida James (14 off 22*) saw the hosts get over the line with nine balls to spare.

For Bangladesh, Sultana and leg-spinner Fahima Khatun took two wickets each.

The West Indies Women’s cricket team completed a clean sweep of the series as they defeated the Bangladesh Tigresses by five wickets in the final T20I match.

The Tigresses put up a competitive total of 140/5 in their 20 overs, with Fargana Hoque top-scoring with 45 runs. However, the West Indies bowlers put in a disciplined performance to restrict the hosts and pick up crucial wickets at regular intervals.

In reply, the West Indies got off to a solid start with openers Hayley Matthews and Deandra Dottin putting on a 70-run partnership. Despite a few hiccups in the middle overs, Kyshona Knight’s unbeaten 35 ensured that the visitors chased down the target with an over to spare.

With this victory, the West Indies completed a 3-0 series sweep and showcased their dominance in the T20 format. The Tigresses, on the other hand, will look to regroup and come back stronger in the upcoming series.

  • X games rookies break records, sweep events Friday and Saturday

X Games rookie Frank Jobin won gold, followed by Nate Haust with silver, and Benny Milam with bronze in men’s snowboard street style at X Games Aspen on Jan. 25, 2025.
    Skyler Stark-Ragsdale/The Aspen Times

Bold youth or veteran experience? Rookies led the charge during the final two days of X Games Aspen.

    Men’s snowboard big air

Japan’s Hiroto Ogiwara set the tone in men’s snowboard big air on Friday night, landing the first ever 2340 — six and a half spins — in competition and winning the event. A rookie, the 19-year-old won his first ever gold on his debut. Japan’s Taiga Hasegawa, 19, took home silver, bringing his medal count to three, and New Zealand rookie Rocco Jamieson, 18, took bronze, also bringing home his first X Games medal.

    Men’s snowboard knuckle huck

Later Friday night, China’s Wang Ziyang, 21, won knuckle huck with the competition’s first ever triple frontflip. The rookie began the rotation before the lip of the knuckle, tapping the tip and tail of his snowboard as he completed the first flip, before continuing the axis for two more. Switzerland’s Patrick Hofmann, 23, won silver and California’s Dusty Henricksen, 21, took home the bronze, bringing his X Games medal count to five.

    Snowboard street style

Women’s snowboard rookies swept street style in the event debut on Saturday afternoon. Montana’s Iris Pham, 20, won the event. Finland rookie Telma Sarkipaju, 19, won silver, and Minnesota’s Jaylen Hanson, 18, won bronze. All three athletes earned their first X games medals.

Rookies struck again in the men’s snowboard street style following the women’s competition Saturday. Canada’s Frank Jobin, 26, took gold at his first ever X Games, followed by Massachusetts’ Nate Haust, 32, and Minnesota’s Benny Milam, 26. Each athlete won their first X Games medal.

    Men’s ski big air

Saturday night’s big air saw the highest spinning night in the history of X Games, with a group of 20-year-olds, mostly rookies, taking the podium. Italian rookie Miro Tabanelli landed the first ever 2340, matching the bar Ogiwara set in snowboard big air the previous night with six and a half spins. New Zealand rookie Luca Harrington followed Friday’s slopestyle gold with a big air silver, landing a 2160, six spins. And Austria’s Matej Svancer landed a switch tailbutter 2160, flexing the tails of his skis off the lip of the jump as he spun six times, starting backwards and ending backwards.

Veteran Alex Hall started the night with a zero spin, starting backwards off of the jump and landing backwards with no spins, perhaps in protest of the “spin to win” mindset the event is developing. The judges however, did not reward him for his commentary. Troy Podmilsak, who won gold in 2024 and just missed the podium on a 2360 attempt this year, said tricks this big are not necessarily fun.

“I’m absolutely terrified. I do not want to be doing these tricks,” he told the X Games press.

The X Games rookies made a stunning debut this weekend, breaking records and sweeping events on both Friday and Saturday. These fresh faces in extreme sports showed that they are forces to be reckoned with, making a major statement in the action sports world.

On Friday, the rookies dominated the competition, setting new records in events like skateboarding and BMX. Their fearless performances and innovative tricks left fans and fellow athletes in awe, solidifying their status as rising stars in the X Games.

Saturday was no different, with the rookies continuing their winning streak and taking home gold medals in multiple events. From freestyle motocross to snowboarding, these newcomers showcased their incredible talent and passion for their respective sports.

With their impressive performances and undeniable skill, the X Games rookies have proven that they are here to stay. They have already made a significant impact on the action sports scene, and fans can’t wait to see what they will achieve in the future. Keep an eye out for these talented athletes as they continue to push the boundaries and redefine what is possible in extreme sports.

  • ‘Winning 3-0 will be great’: Windies captain Matthews eyes improvements, sweep ODI series against Bangladesh

‘Winning 3-0 will be great’: Windies captain Matthews eyes improvements, sweep ODI series against Bangladesh

West Indies Women’s captain Hayley Matthews is optimistic about her team’s readiness, as she stressed that the focus is on improvement and a desire to deliver a dominant 3-0 sweep in their three-match ODI series against Bangladesh.

Matthews pointed out that the series, which gets under way on Sunday at Warner Park, St. Kitts, represents a fresh start following a disappointing outing in India.

In fact, both teams are aiming to sharpen their skills for upcoming ICC events, as this series marks Bangladesh’s first bilateral tour of the Caribbean and the first bilateral encounter between the two sides.

It is with that in mind that Matthews highlighted the importance of spending time in the middle when batting, which she says has been a major focus during the team’s preparation.

“Preparation has been pretty good. Obviously, we had some time off over the New Year’s break to kind of reset after the India series. Everyone has been working pretty hard to get going. Batting has been something that we have been paying a lot of attention to and something that we know is going to be really crucial within this series,” Matthews said in a pre-game interview.

“We have been working hard in the bowling department as well. Obviously, wicket-taking opportunities and wicket-taking balls—that is something from the last series that we felt we could have improved on, so the coaches and everyone involved have definitely been putting in a lot more plans to hopefully get some more early wickets,” she added.

Knowing very well that facing Bangladesh’s formidable spin attack will be a key challenge for her side, Matthews believes the key to success lies in early aggression.

“They have a very strong spin attack, so it’s probably going to be about staying on them really early and keeping them out of the game as much as possible. Their spinners are going to be the ones to try and take wickets, so hopefully we can keep them out of the game as much as possible,” she noted.

Matthews explained that the Caribbean side, which boasts a blend of seasoned campaigners and emerging talent, has struck a harmonious balance with every player eager to give a good account.

“We already have a really good mix. Having that experience and youthfulness kind of brings about that fun in the camp, but we’re still very serious about what we have to get done out on the field. No matter who you are in the team—a young player coming in or someone that’s been around for a while—everyone is hungry to go out there and do well every single time,” Matthews declared.

While playing at home in familiar conditions provides a significant edge, Matthews is cognisant that efficient execution is required to exploit conditions, as she is clear about their ambitions.

“We’ve had a lot of experience playing here at Warner Park. The girls certainly know the ground very well, and it should be an advantage for us. Hopefully, we can use that to exploit areas of the ground and the wicket as well,” Matthews said.

“As the higher-ranked team, we do want to go out there and dominate. It (series) still plays a role in the position that we will be in the qualifiers, and so we want to focus a lot on what we can do. We know we are a quality side, and hopefully we will be able to showcase that, as winning 3-0 will be great,” she reasoned.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty is equally determined, as she also views the series as crucial for their World Cup qualification hopes.

“This is a very important series, and we really want to win to qualify for the ODI World Cup, so we have some plans that we want to execute on the day. We have a very good bowling attack and some very good top-order players, so we look forward to seeing how they perform,” Joty stated.

After a dominant performance in the first two ODI matches against Bangladesh, Windies captain Matthews is setting her sights on a series sweep with a 3-0 victory.

In a recent interview, Matthews expressed her confidence in the team’s ability to continue their winning streak and improve upon their performances in the upcoming match. She highlighted the importance of maintaining their momentum and staying focused on executing their game plan.

“We have been playing some good cricket in the first two matches and I believe we can build upon that to secure a clean sweep against Bangladesh. Winning 3-0 will be great for us and will show the progress we have made as a team,” Matthews said.

She also emphasized the need for the team to continue working on their strengths and addressing any areas of improvement. “There is always room for growth and we will be looking to make some adjustments to ensure we are at our best in the final match,” Matthews added.

With the team’s confidence high and their eyes set on a series sweep, Windies fans can expect an exciting and competitive match as they look to secure victory in the third ODI.

  • Fresh Round Of Arctic Air To Sweep Across Central, Eastern US

    undefined

    Play

    • Another blast of arctic air looms for this weekend and early next week.
    • The coldest lows of the winter so far could occur in some cities and wind chills will be dangerous.
    • This fresh batch of arctic air continues what has been a colder than average first half of January east of the Rockies.

January’s shivering weather pattern east of the Rockies shows no signs of letting up as we head into the month’s final stretch.

That’s because a fresh batch of bitterly cold arctic air is set to arrive this weekend into early next week, possibly bringing the coldest lows of the winter so far in some cities as well as dangerously cold wind chills.

When the next cold plunge will arrive: After a brief return to milder temperatures in the central U.S., the next cold plunge supplied by strong arctic high pressure will nosedive southward through the Plains and upper Midwest by Friday night and Saturday.

From there, it will spread across the rest of the Midwest, South and Northeast Sunday through Tuesday.

Although it’s not forecast to set many records, the temperatures during this cold snap will be anywhere from 15 to 30 degrees below average for a large area. Some people may experience record cold afternoons.

    (MAPS: Forecast Highs And Lows)

    imageimage

How frigid temperatures might become: In general, some locations will see their coldest lows of winter so far, while for others, it might rival what they have already seen.

    • Minneapolis could see its first double-digit subzero low of the season early next week. They may end up experiencing multiple such nights.
    • Chicago, Denver, Detroit and Pittsburgh might see their first lows of the season dropping below zero.
    • Lows along the Interstate 95 corridor from Boston to New York and Philadelphia will flirt with the single digits by Tuesday morning.
    • Much of the South will see teens and low 20s for lows by early next week, with parts of the Gulf Coast dipping at or below freezing.
    imageimage

    Forecast AM Lows Next Week

Wind chills will once again be dangerous. The following three maps show the coldest forecast wind chills of the day on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. In most cases, those coldest wind chills occur early in the morning.

    • Subzero wind chills will grip a broad area of the Plains, Midwest and Great Lakes this weekend into early next week. Portions of the Northern Plains, upper Midwest and western Great Lakes could see early morning wind chills in the dangerously cold minus 20s, 30s and 40s.
    • Wind chills in the teens and single digits will extend into parts of the South and the Northeast. Many areas in the Northeast will see subzero wind chills by Tuesday morning.

January’s cold start is notable for one reason: Record cold hasn’t been widespread this month, but what we’ve seen so far, plus what’s to come, makes it noteworthy from a persistence point of view.

Most areas east of the Rockies had temperatures at least somewhat below average for the first 13 days of the month as a whole, as shown in the analysis below from NOAA. Most notably, parts of the Plains, South, Ohio Valley and mid-Atlantic have been 5 or more degrees below average.

Many of these areas will continue to feel the brunt of this cold January pattern as we head into the month’s final stretch.

Temperatures compared to average Jan. 1-13, 2025.

Chris Dolce has been a senior meteorologist with weather.com for over 10 years after beginning his career with The Weather Channel in the early 2000s.

Get ready for another blast of frigid temperatures as a fresh round of Arctic air is set to sweep across the central and eastern United States. Meteorologists are predicting below-average temperatures and even the possibility of snow in some areas.

This Arctic air mass is expected to bring bitterly cold conditions to states like Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and parts of the Northeast. Residents are advised to bundle up and take precautions to stay warm during this cold snap.

With winter officially here, it’s important to stay informed about weather updates and be prepared for the changing conditions. Make sure to check on vulnerable populations like the elderly and homeless, and take steps to protect your home and pets from the cold.

Stay safe and stay warm as this fresh round of Arctic air settles in across the central and eastern US. Winter is here to stay, so make sure you’re ready for whatever Mother Nature throws your way.

  • Kendrick Lamar Is Gonna Sweep

    Kendrick Lamar Is Gonna Sweep

Eminem is betting on Kendrick Lamar to dominate the 67th annual Grammy Awards.

The Detroit rap icon shared his predictions for the upcoming ceremony in a recent interview. Eminem didn’t mince words when praising the Compton emcee. “The competition is tough, but Kendrick is going to sweep it. He deserves to,” he declared in a clip from the broadcast.

Kendrick’s hit “Not Like Us” is a frontrunner in several major categories, including Record of the Year. The track is up against fierce contenders like Beyoncé’s “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM,” Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso,” and Taylor Swift’s “Fortnight,” featuring Post Malone.

It’s also nominated for Song of the Year, Best Music Video, Best Rap Song, and Best Rap Performance. Lamar even secured additional nods in the latter two categories for his contributions to Metro Boomin and Future’s “Like That.”

Eminem himself is in the running for Best Rap Performance with his track “Houdini,” a standout from his latest project, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce). He faces stiff competition from Cardi B’s “Enough (Miami),” Doechii’s “NISSAN ALTIMA,” Common and Pete Rock’s “When the Sun Shines Again,” and GloRilla’s “Yeah Glo!” Eminem is also eyeing the Best Rap Album award for Coup De Grâce, a project that has sparked significant buzz.

In a twist of irony, Eminem name-checked Kendrick more than once on Coup De Grâce, notably on tracks like “Lucifer” and the album opener, “Renaissance.” On the latter, he critiques critics while referencing Lamar:

“‘Kendrick’s album was cool, but it didn’t have any bangers’/ ‘Wayne’s album or Ye’s, couldn’t tell you which one was lamer,’” he raps, adding, “You nerdy pricks would find somethin’ wrong with 36 Chambers/ It’s what they do to the greats/ Pick apart a Picasso and make excuses to hate.”

The mutual respect between the two artists runs deep. Eminem previously invited Lamar to join him on stage at the 2022 Super Bowl LVI halftime show, where Kendrick delivered a powerful performance of “m.A.A.d city.” In a full-circle moment, Lamar is set to headline the Super Bowl halftime show for the first time in February 2025.

With Grammy buzz at an all-time high, both Eminem and Kendrick Lamar remain at the forefront of hip-hop, proving their enduring influence on the genre.

With the Grammy Awards just around the corner, it’s time to make some bold predictions. And one thing is for sure – Kendrick Lamar is gonna sweep.

The critically acclaimed rapper has been dominating the music scene with his powerful lyrics, unparalleled flow, and thought-provoking themes. With multiple nominations in various categories, including Album of the Year, Best Rap Album, and Best Rap Performance, Kendrick Lamar is poised to take home multiple trophies on music’s biggest night.

His groundbreaking album “DAMN.” has not only topped the charts but has also resonated with fans and critics alike for its raw honesty and social commentary. With his unmatched talent and impact on the industry, it’s hard to imagine anyone else coming close to the level of success that Kendrick Lamar has achieved.

So mark my words – Kendrick Lamar is gonna sweep the Grammys this year. And rightfully so. His music transcends boundaries and speaks to a generation in a way that few artists can. Get ready for a night filled with Kendrick Lamar’s well-deserved victories.

Eminem Believes Kendrick Lamar Is Going to ‘Sweep’ 2025 Grammy Awards

Kendrick Lamar was rap’s undoubted MVP of 2024 and Billboard‘s Greatest Pop Star of the Year, and Eminem thinks his epic run is going to continue into 2025.

While Em and Lamar will be facing off in the best rap performance category at the 2025 Grammy Awards, Eminem believes that K. Dot is going to “sweep” all seven of his nominations come Feb. 2.

    More from Billboard

Slim Shady and Paul Rosenberg celebrated 20 years since the launch of their SiriusXM station Shade45 on Christmas Eve when they joined DJ Whoo Kid for an interview on the channel, which ended with Em giving Lamar his props.

“It’s very stiff competition,” Eminem said of his Grammy-nominated peers. “Kendrick is gonna sweep that sh–. He’s going to, and he should.”

Across Lamar’s seven noms, there are categories where he’s double-dipping with dual consideration thanks to his Mustard-produced “Not Like Us” Drake diss and his assist on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That,” both of which topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 2024.

Eminem is competing in a stacked best rap performance category with his The Death of Slim Shady lead single “Houdini” in the mix.

The Detroit icon also earned a nomination in the best rap album category for The Death of Slim Shady, which Lamar’s GNX won’t be in since it was released outside of the Grammy calendar for 2025 so it will compete for a nom at the 2026 awards.

Eminem has long hailed Kendrick Lamar’s greatness as he declared that K. Dot was “at the very, very top tier of lyricists. Not just of this generation, but of all time.”

They also hit the Super Bowl stage together in 2022 when the big game came to Los Angeles for the Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show headlined by Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre.

Listen to the full interview below. Kendrick’s Grammy talk begins shortly after the 30-minute mark.

In a recent interview, Eminem shared his prediction for the 2025 Grammy Awards, stating that he believes Kendrick Lamar is going to “sweep” the awards show. The legendary rapper praised Lamar’s talent and work ethic, expressing his confidence that the acclaimed artist will dominate the music industry in the coming years.

Eminem, who has won multiple Grammy Awards himself, has been a longtime fan of Kendrick Lamar’s music. He described Lamar as a “true artist” and commended his ability to push boundaries and challenge the status quo in the music industry.

With Kendrick Lamar’s track record of critical and commercial success, it’s no surprise that Eminem sees him as a frontrunner for the 2025 Grammy Awards. Fans of both artists are eagerly anticipating what the future holds for Lamar and are excited to see if Eminem’s prediction comes true.
