  • SZA’s hit US comedy is now coming to UK cinemas

American hit comedy One Of Them Days, starring SZA and Keke Palmer, has secured a release date in the UK.

According to a press release from distributor Sony Pictures UK, the film will be released in cinemas on March 7, following a positive reception upon its release in the States. It will debut the same weekend as Bong Joon-ho’s sci-fi Mickey 17, starring Robert Pattinson.

The official synopsis reads: “Best friends and roommates Dreux (Keke Palmer) and Alyssa (SZA) are about to have One of Them Days. When they discover Alyssa’s boyfriend has blown their rent money, the duo finds themselves going to extremes in a comical race against the clock to avoid eviction and keep their friendship intact”. The movie co-stars comedian Katt Williams and Euphoria’s Maude Apatow.

The comedy, the first R-rated female Black comedy to hit cinemas since 2017’s Girl Trip, was a surprise hit recently in the US. It beat horror film Wolf Man to finish second in the box office chart, just behind Mufasa: The Lion King. It also currently stands at a 95 per cent “fresh” critics rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.

It’s the latest success in what promises to be a big year for SZA, as Kendrick Lamar recently confirmed her as special guest for his Super Bowl half time show on February 9 in New Orleans. The pair have also announced a co-headlining tour.

Palmer has enjoyed great success on the big screen in films like Nope and Hustlers, but spoke last year about Ice Cube’s advice on protecting herself as a woman in the film industry. The rapper, who was her co-star in her 2008 breakthrough The Longshots, reportedly said: “The way that these men see you on set, it’s not the way you see yourself – so, protect yourself”.

Exciting news for fans of SZA! The hit US comedy, starring the talented singer-songwriter, is set to hit UK cinemas soon. Get ready to laugh, cry, and sing along as SZA brings her infectious energy and charm to the big screen. Stay tuned for more updates on when and where you can catch this must-see film in theaters. • Keke Palmer Says World Will Be ‘Gagged’ by SZA’s Acting Debut (Exclusive)

Don’t snooze on SZA‘s big-screen debut in One of Them Days. Her costar in the comedy, Keke Palmer hails the Grammy-winning singer as a natural.

“The world is about to be just gagged,” Palmer, 31, tells PEOPLE in an interview alongside SZA, 35, and producer Issa Rae conducted in December. “Honestly, it’s so, so good. I really am just so proud of you and the movie. It’s all, to me, a match made in heaven.”

SZA admits she was nervous about adding actress to her list of talents — or, as she puts it, “scared as hell,” “terrified” and “anxious.” Still, it’s a “bucket-list” moment for her, she explains.

“I’m trying something brand new. All I can do is try my best, you know, and thank God for the opportunity and just kinda lean into and accept it as a growing experience,” says SZA. “I have tons of fears of being perceived on camera, talking, my voice [and] being next to Keke, who’s a superstar of so many multitudes.”

Palmer, who’s been in front of the camera since her child stardom days, says she and SZA first interacted over Instagram DMs (they had a “simple” back-and-forth about “girl stuff,” she says) before meeting in person at Saturday Night Live. Palmer hosted alongside SZA as the musical guest on a December 2022 episode, spawning that viral “Bad Boys” cuffing season song.

SZA says she felt Palmer was “larger-than-life, unreal and impossible” after accomplishing so many things over the course of her career. However, “then when I met her at SNL, she was so real and possible and present. So funny and enigmatic. Within three seconds of talking to her I was like, ‘Oh, s—!’ I loved it. I wanted more.”

“It’s like looking in a mirror,” adds Palmer.

Their chemistry was “good” from the get-go, says Palmer, but it only grew “stronger” the more time they spent filming together, resulting in a true friendship.

In One of Them Days, a buddy comedy set in Los Angeles, they play besties Dreux (Palmer) and Alyssa (SZA) as they scramble to get rent money by the end of the day to avoid eviction.

SZA says of her time with Palmer on set, “Every day, 12 hours of real-life conversation. It was like a crash course, like a speed date but very intense.”

“We actually liked each other. We was gonna get married at the end. I was gonna say ‘I do,’ ” adds SZA with a smile. Palmer agrees, “It was giving that.”

Insecure alum Rae, 40, who produced the film via her Hoorae Media company, says Palmer and SZA shine together, on camera and off.

“[SZA] freaking killed it, and watching Keke overextend and be like, ‘Yo, let’s go to each other’s houses. Let’s rehearse. Let’s do this.’ Watching her embrace SZA throughout the process, I was like, ‘This is something that Dreux would do for Alyssa,’ ” says Rae. “Watching [SZA] show up and be present and wanting to do the best job possible — and actually doing it — it just made sense and it all fit together.”

One of Them Days is in theaters Jan. 17.

Get ready, because SZA is about to take the world by storm in her upcoming acting debut, according to actress and singer Keke Palmer. In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly, Palmer gushed about SZA’s talents and predicted that audiences will be “gagged” by her performance.

“SZA is a force to be reckoned with in the music industry, and now she’s bringing that same energy to the screen,” Palmer said. “I had the privilege of watching her on set, and let me tell you, she is captivating. The world is not ready for what she’s about to bring to the table.”

While details about SZA’s acting debut are still under wraps, Palmer hinted that it will be a game-changer. “SZA has a natural charisma and presence that translates effortlessly to the screen,” Palmer added. “I have no doubt that she will leave audiences speechless with her performance.”

Fans can expect to see SZA’s acting debut in the near future, and according to Palmer, it will be worth the wait. “I am so excited for everyone to see what SZA is capable of,” Palmer said. “She is a true talent, and I have no doubt that the world will be ‘gagged’ by her acting debut.”

  • Keke Palmer and SZA’s ‘One of Them Days’ checks the boxes for buddy comedies

Audiences first got a glimpse of the multihyphenate actress and entertainer Keke Palmer and the multiplatinum, Grammy-winning artist SZA together on “Saturday Night Live” in 2022. Now they are box office queens with their film “One of Them Days” defying predictions to become the No. 1 comedy in the country, coming in second only to Disney’s latest “Lion King” offering, “Mufasa” from Barry Jenkins, during the four-day MLK holiday weekend.

Inviting comparisons to the 1995 classic buddy comedy, “Friday,” “One of Them Days,” written by Syreeta Singleton, follows two best friends and roommates — Palmer’s straight-laced Dreux and SZA’s free-spirited Alyssa — as they race against the clock to raise their rent money or be kicked out on the sidewalk with all their belongings.

Palmer, who produced the film with Issa Rae, told NBC News that she signed on to the film because “it felt familiar to me — a story about two girls growing up in an L.A. neighborhood trying to figure out how to make rent, but with all the hijinks and also all the lessons they learned along the way. It reminded me of the kind of films that I watched growing up about friendship, usually starring two guys, though.”

Palmer said she jumped at the chance to act in and produce a movie that “centered women in a way that I love,” while paying homage to other films in the genre like “Let’s Do It Again” with Sidney Poitier and Bill Cosby, “Bad Boys” with Martin Lawrence and Will Smith, and plenty of others.

Taking on a role behind the camera for a feature film stretched Palmer, who was last seen on the big screen in “Nope,” from writer and director Jordan Peele. “I think the challenge was staying in it, because it took a long time to do,” she explained.

The process for “One of Them Days” began as Palmer was co-hosting “Good Morning America’s” third hour, in 2019 and 2020. In the meantime, the actress, Emmy-winning “Password” host, podcaster and author had to keep focused on her role as Dreux. She said she had to avoid “letting myself get lost with all the different kinds of hoops you have to go through when you’re putting a project together and wanting to get it right for the story you’re telling, but also wanting to make sure that the studio is happy,” she said. “It was a great lesson in collaboration.”

As funny as this film is, with comedians Katt Williams, Janelle James, Lil Rel Howery and Gabrielle Dennis lending their talents, Lawrence Lamont’s directorial debut delivers more than laughs. Instead, “One of Them Days” uses humor to shed light on much bigger issues.

“Everybody’s broke right now. The economy is struggling,” said Rae, who is best known for her HBO series “Insecure.” “It’s a reflection of our hustle culture, how hard it is to make ends meet, and also finding ways to laugh at the pain.”

Social commentary is an element Palmer insists people often miss in “Friday,” which is one of their film’s main inspirations. “We’re like ‘Oh, “Friday’ is so funny,’ but at the core of it, it was about gun violence,” she noted. “It was about ‘stop killing each other and shooting each other; if you want to fight, duke it out in the street, put the guns down.’ It was about real messages.”

“With this movie, it was the same thing,” she added. “’Yeah O.K., we got friendship during hijinks and people are crazy, but it’s like, ‘Wait a minute, there is a cycle of poverty here and actually it is really hard to work your way up, credit is a motherf—-er, oh s—, I actually don’t know how to pay back these student loans, oh wait a minute, gentrification, my city is edging me out — how do I maintain when I’m in this cycle that I can’t get out of?’”

“One of Them Days” also reaches back to Black film history beyond “Friday,” Palmer said. The music, she said, may remind viewers a bit of Blaxploitation era films, playing with satire while also speaking to the issues that are going on in the community.”

“One of Them Days,” she said, addresses today’s hard-hitting issues of gentrification, systemic racism and predatory lending while evoking “hope, pride and understanding.”

Are you a fan of buddy comedies? If so, you definitely need to check out Keke Palmer and SZA’s new track “One of Them Days.” This infectious song not only has a catchy beat and fun lyrics, but it also perfectly captures the essence of a great buddy comedy.

From the moment you hit play, you can’t help but feel like you’re part of a hilarious adventure with your best friend. The playful banter between Keke Palmer and SZA is reminiscent of classic buddy duos like Thelma and Louise or Laverne and Shirley. Their chemistry is undeniable, and their infectious energy will have you laughing and dancing along in no time.

Whether you’re going on a road trip with your bestie or just need a pick-me-up on a tough day, “One of Them Days” is the perfect soundtrack for your next buddy comedy. So grab your popcorn, buckle up, and get ready for a wild ride with Keke Palmer and SZA!

Social Media Reacts to SZA’s Shocking Career Change

SZA’s “SOS” set chart-topping records, won multiple Grammys and catapulted her to a new level of fame. The album’s mainstream success had audiences outside of R&B finally taking notice of her immense talent. In the entertainment world, when you hit different levels of success, you sometimes have to make changes to your team. This may be the position SZA finds herself in as she parts ways with longtime manager, TDE President Terrence “Punch” Henderson.

According to Rolling Stone, the “Kill Bill” singer confirmed the news while responding to a fan account’s post about the split, writing, “Nothing to celebrate. The end of an era. I wish him the best. Whatever his choices may be.”

This news comes amid the release of the highly anticipated “SOS” Deluxe Edition “Lana.” Many fans have blamed Punch for the album’s delay, so the reaction to their management relationship ending had people directing negativity toward him. The “All the Stars” artist was not having it, quickly stepping in to put an end to the backlash.

“To be clear I love punch deeply ! NO ONE should be attacking him or being cruel on my behalf . Sometimes ppl grow apart and that’s okay,” she added.

For his part, Punch posted cryptic comments that could have been about SZA, or he could have been thinking of something else. We don’t really know for sure.

Alongside a photo of Heath Ledger as The Joker in “The Dark Knight,” Punch tweeted, “Madness, as you know, is like gravity. All it takes is a little push.”

He went on to encourage everyone to calm down, posting, “Also, nothing real can be threatened. Relax ppl. Lol.”

Punch has also changed his bio on X. It has consistently read, “I manage SZA.” He temporarily changed it to “I manage SZA…I think;” but now he’s changed it back to its original statement. “I manage SZA… TDE is the Family. respecttheARtFOrM.”

Of course, the singer’s words didn’t stop her loyal fans from weighing in on the split. Some folks took to Black Twitter to express thoughts on how this will change things for SZA moving forward.

One fan is ready for more organization in the singer’s team, writing on X, “Hopefully this means no more messy releases !!”

Echoing the singer/actress’ point about growing apart, someone else posted, “When the vibe isn’t vibing anymore, it’s time to move on.”

Another person isn’t buying the amicable split story and thinks SZA is actually excited, writing, “nothing to celebrate” nah i know she’s jumping with joy rn.”

Fans have seen public rifts between SZA and her management before this as well. SZA has used social media to express frustration around delays for her last two albums as well, 2017’s “Ctrl” and 2022’s “SOS.” But when fans employed the hashtag #FreeSZA in 2020, the singer deleted her posts and defended her team. “Sometimes you gotta be patient… Sometimes no is a blessing,” she wrote. “I trust the people around me.” Only time will tell if this split between SZA and Punch persists over time.

Along with the new release of the “SOS” deluxe edition “Lana,” SZA is set to kick off her movie career in a big way. She’ll be co-starring alongside Keke Palmer in the buddy comedy “One of Them Days,” which hits theaters Jan. 17.

SZA, the beloved R&B singer known for hits like “Love Galore” and “The Weekend,” recently announced a surprising career change that has taken social media by storm. The singer revealed that she will be leaving the music industry to pursue a career in acting.

Fans and followers of SZA took to social media to express their shock and disbelief at the news. Many expressed their sadness at the thought of not hearing new music from the talented artist, while others wished her luck in her new endeavor.

Some fans speculated about what kind of roles SZA might take on in her acting career, while others wondered if she would ever return to the music industry. Overall, the reaction on social media was a mix of surprise, sadness, and excitement for SZA’s future.

It remains to be seen how SZA’s career change will play out, but one thing is for sure – her fans will be eagerly following along every step of the way.
