  • Ryan Ten Doeschate Issues Big Injury Update On Rinku Singh, Defends Gautam Gambhir’s Tactics

    Last Updated:

Ryan ten Doeschate has given a big update on Rinku Singh’s fitness, while also defending his head coach, Gautam Gambhir’s eight-batter tactic.

Rinku Singh was ruled out of the last two games due to a back strain.

Rinku Singh was ruled out of the last two games due to a back strain.

Indian men’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate confirmed on Thursday that Rinku Singh will be ‘proper fit’ to play the fourth T20I between India and England in Pune after recovering from back spasms.

The lower-order aggressive batter played the first match in Kolkata but was ruled out of the next two games after picking up the injury before the second. According to news agency PTI, Rinku batted extensively in the nets on the eve of the match, trying audacious laps and sweeps against spinners, looking comfortable against pacers, and also taking throwdowns from specialist Raghavendra and assistant coach Abhishek Nayar.

“Rinku is fit. He played the first game, hurt himself and missed the next two. But I would imagine Rinku comes back in as soon as he’s proper fit. He batted the other night and I think he’ll be ready to go tomorrow,” ten Doeschate said during the pre-match press conference.

The last two T20Is could bring much-needed game time for Rinku who, after a quick start to his international career, hasn’t had clear opportunities to do anything of note in the last few months.

‘Big part of how Gautam Gambhir likes to set-up’: ten Doeschate on India’s batting-heavy lineups

If Rinku comes back, he’ll likely take the place of wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel. Jurel has scores of 4 and 2 in the two T20Is as the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) star’s replacement. However, his second return have been hardly his fault for, despite being more of a top-to-middle-order player, he came to bat at number eight.

It was apparently done to maintain the left-hand-right-hand combination in the middle but led to criticism for Jurel’s inclusion. Many experts felt India could have used his spot for extra bowling cushion. However, if ten Doeschate’s comments are anything to go by, the tactic is here to stay, for now.

“You could argue that we don’t want Dhruv Jurel batting at number 8. But I also think if you look at the blueprint of any of Gambhir’s teams that he has coached since he’s been coaching T20 cricket, it is a big part of how he likes to set up,” ten Doeschate said.

“Particularly the other night, like I said, with Dhruv coming in at 8, I don’t think we got to see the best of him. But we do believe that it’s a big part of strategy in these games. Again, going back to my point, we want to give guys a long enough opportunity to show how good they are because we believe in the medium to long term, guys will show how good they are.”

India lost the third T20I but are ahead by 2-1 in the series.

News cricket Ryan Ten Doeschate Issues Big Injury Update On Rinku Singh, Defends Gautam Gambhir’s Tactics

Ryan Ten Doeschate, the coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders, has issued a big injury update on Rinku Singh. The young batsman suffered a hamstring injury during a training session and will be sidelined for the next few weeks.

In a recent press conference, Ten Doeschate also defended Gautam Gambhir’s tactics during the team’s recent matches. The former KKR captain has come under scrutiny for his decision-making on the field, but Ten Doeschate believes that Gambhir is doing the best he can with the resources available to him.

“We have full faith in Gautam and his leadership skills,” said Ten Doeschate. “He is a seasoned campaigner and knows how to handle pressure situations. We are confident that he will lead the team to success in the upcoming matches.”

Despite the setback with Rinku Singh’s injury, the Kolkata Knight Riders are determined to bounce back and put on a strong performance in the remainder of the tournament. With Ten Doeschate and Gambhir at the helm, the team is looking to turn their fortunes around and make a strong push for the playoffs.

  • Opinion | Trump’s tough trade tactics risk turning the world away from America

US President Donald Trump’s first term changed the conversation on trade in the United States. Where the consensus had once been that open markets would eventually lead to even adversarial states like China and Russia adopting values like America’s, Trump’s first-term tariffs led to a recognition of their uses, and a deeper understanding of how adversarial states game the free-trade system.

Just as one can be too trusting with those who might betray them, liberal defenders of the free-trade system have too often displayed an idealism that its opponents could take advantage of.

Yet, just as one can be too trusting and idealistic, one can also be too calculating. If the former are too easily taken advantage of, the latter are telling the world their promises are of no value and will soon run out of partners.

Though Trump has been in office less than two weeks, his tariff threats have tipped past the point of pragmatism into irrationality. He has threatened 25 per cent tariffs on Canada and Mexico. He has threatened 10 per cent tariffs on China and levies on the European Union. He has even threatened tariffs (and sanctions) on Russia if it does not negotiate an end to its Ukraine invasion.

    02:31

US President Donald Trump softens tone on possible China tariffs

US President Donald Trump softens tone on possible China tariffs

And, most recently, he threatened tariffs on Colombia if it did not take back planes full of immigrants originating from the South American country. Though the tariffs were scrapped once the Colombian government (allegedly) relented to US demands, the president of Colombia initially responded with an interesting (if long-winded and tangential) social media post.

In recent months, President Donald Trump has taken a hardline approach to trade negotiations with countries around the world. From imposing tariffs on steel and aluminum imports to threatening to withdraw from trade agreements like NAFTA, Trump’s tough tactics have sparked mixed reactions both domestically and internationally.

While some argue that Trump’s approach is necessary to protect American industries and jobs, others fear that his aggressive stance could alienate key allies and damage America’s reputation on the global stage. The risk of a trade war looms large, with countries like China retaliating with their own tariffs on American goods.

Critics warn that Trump’s “America First” rhetoric could ultimately isolate the United States and hinder its ability to negotiate favorable trade deals in the future. By alienating key allies and taking a confrontational stance, Trump risks turning the world away from America and undermining the country’s standing as a global leader.

It is crucial for Trump to consider the long-term implications of his trade policies and work towards finding mutually beneficial solutions with other countries. Cooperation, rather than confrontation, is key to fostering strong relationships and promoting economic growth on a global scale.

In conclusion, Trump’s tough trade tactics may have short-term benefits for certain industries, but they also carry significant risks for America’s standing in the world. Finding a balance between protecting American interests and maintaining positive relationships with key trading partners is essential for the country’s economic future.

  • Talking Tactics: Burnley (A) How Regis Le Bris (almost!) got the better of Scott Parker

Sunderland returned to League action on Friday night in a bid to close the gap on the summit of the Championship away at Turf Moor In what was a closely contested game, neither team could be separated, and a 0-0 draw meant Sunderland returned back to the North East with a share of the spoils – although the performance in the second 45 should have won the game pretty comfortably.

So, how did Le Bris set up his side in the second half?

    Sunderland Line-Up

With Aji Alese injured and Patrick Roberts rested the week prior, Sunderland were expected to make at least two changes to the side that were victorious against Portsmouth in the previous league fixture, with Dennis Cirkin and Roberts both coming back into the side in their usual roles. With Chris Rigg returning from injury, he too slotted into his familiar position in midfield, but a surprise debut was handed to new signing Enzo Le Fee on the left wing to replace Adil Aouchiche.

    Sunderland Line-Up v Burnley (A)
    FOTMOB

As suspected Sunderland switched back to their usual 4-3-3 shape with Le Fee coming in on the left and Rigg operating in that advanced number eight role in possession but pushing up alongside Wilson Isidor to form a 4-4-2 out of possession. Given Burnley’s heavily passive possession figures Sunderland weren’t expected to have much of the ball during the game, looking to exploit Burnley in transition – something that ideally suits RLB’s typical philosophy. Burnley do incredibly well to limit transition opportunities though, and that’s something we’ll touch on later on.

    Opposition line-up

Scott Parker made one change himself from the Clarets’ last league encounter, in which they came away from Ewood Park with a 1-0 victory. The only change saw Jeremy Sarmiento make way for Lyle Foster on the left-hand side. Burnley’s ever-present backline remained in for this one having managed to shut out the vast majority of the league at home, only conceding four times at Turf Moor and no more than once in any of those games.

    Opposition Line-Up (A)
    FOTMOB

Burnley set up in a traditional 4-2-3-1 with Brownhill and Cullen operating in a usual double pivot to protect their back four. While in possession Burnley tend to operate as two separate units, both of the midfield pairing form a back six with their defensive line and then the attacking players isolate themselves further forward as a unit of four, meaning that when Burnley do turn the ball over there are plenty of numbers in the defensive third to smother counter-attacks before they create any real danger.

    Feeling the opposition out

The first half of this game offered very little in terms of moments of magic from a neutral perspective, however it was fascinating to see how both teams were settling into the patterns of play adopted by each other As discussed, what makes Burnley such an interesting side is their unique approach to possession football.

Normally, when discussing possession-heavy sides such as Swansea or Leeds, the clear weakness is when turnovers occur in the opposition’s final third and teams are able to quickly spring in transition to catch the side that have overcommitted bodies forward while in control of the ball. In stark contrast, Burnley retain and recycle the ball far more in the middle third of the pitch.

By holding possession in a ‘neutral’ area of the pitch they entice the opposition to venture out of their defensive shape to press ball carriers only then to rely on vertical transitions to advance up the pitch, often culminating in long diagonal balls with the aim of feeding their wingers who’ve made runs in behind the advancing defensive line.

Whilst we’re not seeing the goal-greedy Parker of old with his Bournemouth and Fulham teams that got promoted with ridiculous goalscoring prowess, we’re seeing a different style of play now that focuses much more on the war of attrition. At the expense of any real attacking output, Burnley work in a way that they know they’ll come away with a clean sheet at worst, and it’s up to their forwards to secure the three points.

    Sunderland’s shape and press

Following a first half that only really saw half-chances from Jadon Anthony after springing Cirkin on the long diagonal, Sunderland took the game to Burnley during the second 45 and really demonstrated the work Le Bris does behind the scenes researching his opponents. Sunderland raised their defensive line and structured their pressing triggers around the ball progression of Josh Brownhill.

    Mclachbot

Once the midfielder progressed beyond his usual position Sunderland deployed their press and helped to smother any Burnley moves from materialising, ultimately limiting the hosts to just four shots in the second half, one of which came in the opening minute of the second half and two others coming from set pieces, Jadon Antony was the only other player to record a shot from open play and made it very much one-way traffic as the game progressed.

    Le Fee, Le Fwah

Despite having not completed a full 90 minutes since 31st of October, Enzo Le Fee showed some real signs of quality during his debut. Completing 3/6 of his dribbles, seven recoveries and creating one big chance, the Frenchman looked a cut above despite operating in an unfamiliar position and only a handful of training sessions with his new teammates.

Passes into the Opposition Box 24/25
    Mclachbot

Most impressively for me was his ability to retain possession and prove to be press-resistant in a league far more physically imposing than he’s used to. Special mentions for the stunning turn and through ball to Isidor that saw the forward smash the outside of the post – the passing range on his weaker foot was a joy to watch and I’m sure we’ll see many more balls like that once Le Fee begins to operate more centrally.

    Chance Creation Metrics

It’s hard to ignore the two penalty misses that skew with the final metrics from this game however those chances aside, Sunderland managed to create an xG of 1.15 from Open Play (2.85xG inc Penalties), which demonstrates that the underlying data behind our results is still trending in an upward direction despite the maximum points haul not coming our way. To add some context to this, of the sides Burnley have faced at Turf Moor this season Sunderland rank comfortably highest for xG created before even adding in the penalty numbers. Middlesborough drew 1-1 and only registered 0.88xG and Blackburn only 0.31xG back in August, demonstrating when compared with our result at Brammall Lane, we’ve given both sides the best games they’ve faced at home this season so far.

    @BeGriffis

    Strength in depth

With Sunderland now having several options off the bench that Le Bris trusts, making subs earlier is something we’re becoming more accustomed to. Mayenda and Ballard were introduced as the second half wore on and helped to sustain Sunderland’s attacking output into the closing stages of the game.

With Mundle and Watson not far from returning to first team training and Jenson Seelt now back in contention, squad rotation around the 70-minute mark looks to be far more common as we look to turn those draws into wins.

    Protecting Rigg

In only his second game since his return from an ankle injury, Chris Rigg came back into the side and unfortunately didn’t have one of his more impactful games. The teenager only completed 13 passes during his time on the pitch and struggled to make an impact in the ways we’ve come to expect.

That’s okay though, and sometimes as fans we don’t appreciate the hard work Rigg does off the ball, leading the press alongside Isidor while also always trying to act as a passing outlet for Hume and Roberts at all times helps to keep us ticking over.

Hopefully we don’t make the same mistake with Rigg as we’ve made in the past with Callum Doyle, Neil and Jobe. With Le Fee coming in to give the teenager a chance to get himself back up to full speed and confidence with plenty of games left to go.

    Pushing on

While three points at Turf Moor would’ve ended Burnley’s unbeaten home run and helped close the gap at the top of the league, a point is nothing to be ashamed of. With games against Derby tonight and Plymouth on Saturday, Sunderland will be looking to put both sides to the sword and gain some ground on the opposition with Sheffield, Leeds and Burnley all due to face one another in the coming weeks.

While I was extremely frustrated come the final whistle on Friday night, after an opportunity to reflect we can only see this as yet another marker for how well our team can perform and sets us up well for what seems to be a thrilling few weeks before we culminate in a trip to Elland Road.

Regis Le Bris, Fulham’s assistant coach, almost outsmarted Burnley’s manager Scott Parker in a recent away match at Turf Moor. In this edition of Talking Tactics, we’ll break down how Le Bris’s tactical approach nearly earned Fulham a valuable three points on the road.

First and foremost, Le Bris opted for a more defensive formation, with a compact 4-4-2 shape that aimed to frustrate Burnley’s direct style of play. By crowding the midfield and blocking passing lanes, Fulham were able to limit Burnley’s opportunities to play through the middle and force them to play more long balls.

Le Bris also instructed his players to press high up the pitch, disrupting Burnley’s build-up play and forcing them into mistakes. This aggressive pressing style led to Fulham winning the ball back in dangerous areas and creating several goal-scoring opportunities on the counter.

Furthermore, Le Bris made some crucial substitutions at key moments in the match, bringing on fresh legs to maintain the intensity and energy levels of his team. This tactical decision almost paid off, as Fulham came close to scoring a late winner before ultimately settling for a hard-fought draw.

Overall, Regis Le Bris demonstrated his tactical acumen and ability to adapt to different opponents. While Burnley ultimately held on for a draw, it was clear that Le Bris’s tactical approach nearly got the better of Scott Parker on the day. Fulham fans can take heart from the team’s performance and look forward to more tactical battles in the future.

  • GD’s oppressive tactics, which will leave the country isolated

“We strongly condemn the violence against peaceful Georgian citizens, protesters, journalists, and opposition figures, including former Georgian Prime Minister Gakharia,” said Matthew Miller, Spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State.

“This is another example of the Georgian Dream’s oppressive tactics, which will leave the country isolated,” he wrote on the X Platform.

The leader of the Gakharia for Georgia party, Giorgi Gakharia, was attacked in Batumi on January 14. The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) initiated an investigation under Article 126 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to violence.

In recent months, it has become increasingly evident that the ruling party, GD, in our country is resorting to oppressive tactics that are not only detrimental to democracy but also threatening to leave the country isolated on the global stage.

From cracking down on peaceful protests to censoring dissenting voices in the media, GD has been tightening its grip on power and silencing any form of opposition. This oppressive behavior is not only undemocratic but also risks alienating our country from the international community.

By stifling freedom of speech and suppressing civil liberties, GD is sending a clear message to the world that our country is not a safe haven for democracy and human rights. This could lead to sanctions, diplomatic isolation, and a tarnished reputation on the global stage.

It is imperative that we, as citizens, speak out against these oppressive tactics and demand accountability from our government. We must not allow GD to continue down this dangerous path that could ultimately leave our country isolated and vulnerable.

It is time for us to stand up for our rights, for democracy, and for the future of our country. Let us join together in solidarity and fight against the oppressive tactics of GD before it’s too late.

  • Premier League half-season review: Tactics and trends that have shaped 2024-25 so far

Premier League half-season review: Tactics and trends that have shaped 2024-25 so far

This week brings up the midway point of the 2024-25 Premier League season. It’s already been a memorable campaign, with Liverpool clear at the top, the two Manchester clubs in turmoil and the increasingly-familiar sight of the three promoted teams in the bottom three.

But what have been the tactical and numerical trends that have captured our experts’ attention, and how do they see the second half of the campaign playing out?

Ahmed Walid, Thom Harris and Anantaajith Raghuraman discuss their key takeaways.

Which team’s tactics have most interested you this season?

Ahmed Walid: It’s always difficult to take over once a successful manager departs but I have been very impressed with Liverpool under Arne Slot. The team’s pressing and general out-of-possession approach had some teething issues earlier in the season, but their performance without the ball against Aston Villa, Manchester City and Tottenham showed that it’s returned to an elite level.

Liverpool still retain their attacking edge on transitions, but it’s in possession where things get interesting. Slot has shifted Liverpool to a more controlled approach with slight tweaks to how the team attacks.

Trent Alexander-Arnold hasn’t been moving into midfield as much as he did last season, Alexis Mac Allister has been dropping to support Ryan Gravenberch progress the ball up the pitch, and in certain games the centre-forward’s role is to operate in the half-space. In addition, Mohamed Salah has been used as a direct outlet when Liverpool are being pressed up the pitch. The Egyptian has received 37 per cent of Liverpool goalkeepers’ completed long passes in the Premier League this season, a stark increase compared to the previous six campaigns.

That’s without mentioning Slot’s half-time tactical tweaks which have helped Liverpool in multiple games this season, notably the 2-0 victory against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Anantaajith Raghuraman: Brentford seem to evolve every season under Thomas Frank, and their use of kick offs to score early goals in back-to-back games against Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United was inspired.

Football is increasingly moving towards winning by controlling possession, but Brentford’s approach showed the importance of territorial dominance even if it means ceding possession early and embracing the chaos.

    go-deeper

    GO DEEPER

Brentford scored in the first minute yet again — this is how they do it

The other aspect of their setup that has been interesting is the ability to alter their game plan according to the teams they have faced. Ivan Toney’s exit and Igor Thiago’s injury in pre-season allowed Frank to innovate with a fluid frontline. Yoane Wissa, Bryan Mbuemo, Kevin Schade and Mikkel Damsgaard have interchanged positions, both on team sheets and in-game, keeping opponents guessing, and has brought the best out of all four players.

Brentford have become experts at scoring early in Premier League games (Henry Nicholls/AFP via Getty Images)

Thom Harris: There are some likeable teams punching above their weight in the top half of the Premier League table but Marco Silva deserves particular credit for how he’s overseen continual improvement at Fulham. Despite losing Aleksandar Mitrovic and Joao Palhinha, the club have emerged with multiple high-quality options in each position, with all but two of the players involved in their memorable 2-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Boxing Day having been signed under the Portuguese’s watch.

There are plenty of different profiles throughout a carefully-built squad that allow Silva to adapt his approach to the opposition. He switched to a back five to mirror Chelsea’s attacking shape on Boxing Day, and is able to rely on combative midfielders Sasa Lukic and Sander Berge for defensive grit, while the signing of Emile Smith Rowe has helped to evolve their combination play down the left-hand side.

Rotating with Alex Iwobi and Reiss Nelson, working to open up space for the overlapping for Antonee Robinson, there is creativity, pace and unpredictability down that flank to keep the opposition guessing. The minutes are shared nicely between the No 9s, too, each averaging a goal every other game this season. It looks like a happy squad, brought together by an astute coach.

    go-deeper

    GO DEEPER

Fulham’s tactics have troubled Manchester City and Arsenal. It’s Liverpool next

Which team have you been most disappointed by?

Walid: Clearly Manchester City have missed Rodri, and other injuries have affected them. But considering the quality of the players and the fact their manager is Pep Guardiola, the team’s performance without the ball has taken a nosedive. It’s not only the intensity of the pressing, but there is constant confusion between the players in terms of who has to jump to press, allowing the opponent to easily play through them, as was the case in the 2-1 defeat against Villa.

The counter-pressing levels have dropped as well. Rodri’s absence is a factor, but City’s vulnerability when they lose the ball is that of a team fighting relegation. Usually, Guardiola finds a solution but it’s becoming a bit late now as other teams around them rack up points. Even qualifying for next season’s Champions League is starting to look like a stretch.

Rodri’s injury against Arsenal: Significant but not the only reason City are struggling (Paul Ellis/AFP via Getty Images)

Raghuraman: I expected Crystal Palace to build on their exploits between February and May under Oliver Glasner last season and — until recently — they have fallen well short of those expectations. A rather unsuccessful summer window that saw them lose Michael Olise and Joachim Andersen and fail to add wing-backs better suited to Glasner’s system are key contributors, but there is more to it.

In 13 games under Glasner at the end of last season, Palace averaged 6.2 possessions won in the attacking third per match, only behind Manchester City (9.1) and Arsenal (7.2). That figure has plummeted to 3.8 in 18 games this season (11th best).

In attack, they are still averaging 3.8 open-play shots on target per game, but the quality of opportunities and finishing have suffered, with their conversion rate declining from 17 per cent to seven per cent. But Palace’s recent league form (one loss in their last seven) and their defensive record (26 goals conceded, eighth best in the division) are reasons for optimism.

Harris: West Ham haven’t kicked on as I’d hoped after what looked like an exciting summer window. They are just too porous defensively — only the three promoted sides have conceded more expected goals (xG) this season — and they feel a little less potent going forward with Julen Lopetegui’s more measured possession approach.

There is quality simmering in this squad, and a run of four games unbeaten has shown that they have the firepower to challenge for the top half, but there’s another level to hit.

West Ham have shown flashes so far this season but is there more to come? (Julian Finney/Getty Images)

Which player have you most enjoyed watching?

Walid: Ryan Gravenberch’s adaptation to the No 6 role at Liverpool has been hugely impressive. The Netherlands midfielder has been one of the best players in the Premier League this season in that role. Away from his top-class performances in and out of possession, Gravenberch’s trademark move of opening up his body and receiving on the turn to dribble past the opponent has been beautiful to watch.

Ryan Gravenberch has been a revelation as Liverpool’s No 6 (Jan Kruger/Getty Images)

Raghuraman: Amid the chaos at Tottenham, Dejan Kulusevski has been a source of calm and reasonable consistency. He is a joy to watch in full flow, relying on clever feints, close control and off-the-ball movement to outwork defences. Spurs’ struggles on the left wing due to injuries and Son Heung-min’s form have meant they have relied more on Kulusevski to create and he has done so admirably from midfield and out wide.

His 39 chances created is bettered only by Cole Palmer (48) and Bukayo Saka (41), while only Mohamed Salah (62) and Alex Iwobi (50) have completed more successful passes into the penalty box than Kulusevski’s 49.

Harris: There are few players as thrilling to watch as Alexander Isak at his peak and, after a slow start to the season, he has seven goals and two assists in his last five Premier League games.

Combining his dribbling ability with a tall, slender frame and a clean ball-striking technique, there’s something extremely satisfying about the way he glides across the pitch. While he’s evolved into a pure poacher throughout his time at Newcastle, with almost half of his goals falling inside the six-yard box this season, his strike against Liverpool at the start of the month was an emphatic reminder that the spectacular is rarely far away.

What is the most revealing statistic from the first half of the season?

Walid: Nottingham Forest’s defensive solidity has limited the goals they have conceded in the Premier League this season to 19. Only Arsenal (16) and Liverpool (17) have conceded fewer so far.

That is supported by the underlying metrics. Forest have conceded the third-lowest non-penalty expected goals (xG) per game in the league (1.0), again after Liverpool and Arsenal. On top of that, the average quality of shots they have been facing isn’t that high. Forest’s 0.08 non-penalty xG per shot conceded has been the best rate in the Premier League this season, with only Arsenal matching that number.

Raghuraman: Arsenal, thanks to their excellence from set pieces, lead the league in shots from corners with 28 (1.6 per game). Six other teams, including Fulham, Aston Villa (both 27), and Nottingham Forest (20), are within 10 of that tally.

This is a massive difference from last season when Liverpool created 78 shots from corners across the season and were comfortably ahead of second-placed Fulham (54) and the chasing pack. At this time of the season last year, Liverpool had generated 39 shots from corners after 19 matches (2.1 per game) and were already 15 ahead of Brighton and Luton Town, joint-second on 24.

A league-wide recognition of the advantages that can be gained from attacking and defending corners (and set pieces overall) seems to have contributed to the reduced disparity.

The Arsenal Corner Playbook: Explaining the principles that make Arteta’s side so menacing

Harris: Manchester City’s shocking downturn in form has been well-documented, but the extent of the numbers still takes some getting used to. Guardiola’s side are conceding Opta-defined Big Chances at a rate of almost three a game, and have already passed their season tallies from four of the last six seasons.

Many of their defensive woes stem from counter-attacks, easily overrun in midfield without the instinctive positioning and duel-winning abilities of Rodri. As we can see from the chart below, no team has conceded more chances from fast breaks, with only Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham — similarly chaotic on transitions this season — running them close.

And what about a misleading stat from the season so far?

Raghuraman: Wolves have the seventh-highest goals total so far with 29, just one less than Manchester City and Newcastle United. But their xG (expected goals, the number of goals a team is expected to score based on the quality of their chances) of 18.8 is the fifth worst, with their overperformance of 10.2 some distance ahead of Tottenham in second with 5.6.

Matheus Cunha, who scored an ‘olimpico’ against Manchester United on Boxing Day to add to a few other fantastic low-xG strikes, is a key reason. The number of goals scored suggests Wolves have an attack that is good enough to finish in the top 10 but their defending under former manager Gary O’Neil has plunged them into the relegation fight. If new boss Vitor Pereira can maintain his good start — and Cunha’s form — they should be fine, though.

Give us one prediction for the second half of the season

Walid: Things will improve for Manchester United. The performances against Bournemouth and Wolves weren’t as good as the defeat against Tottenham and the victory in the Manchester derby, but there are definite signs of what Ruben Amorim wants to do on and off the ball. Fixing how they defend set pieces is an important task, though, because that issue has cancelled all the positives from their performances under Amorim so far.

Raghuraman: My bold pre-season prediction (which Thom concurred with) was for Forest to finish in the top 10 — but even I did not foresee the kind of form they have shown. I think they will get UEFA Conference League football next season at the very least. Additionally, I think one of Manchester United or Tottenham will end the season with a trophy, but both will finish outside the top seven.

Harris:  If Manchester City can ease their fitness issues at centre-back and get the likes of John Stones and Ruben Dias back playing regularly, then Josko Gvardiol has a chance of hitting 10 goals this season. He took five shots and hit the post against Everton, flicked a great chance over the bar at Villa Park, and squandered two big chances in the opening 20 minutes against Forest, all from thundering runs forward from full-back.

As cloud computing becomes increasingly prevalent in today’s digital landscape, ensuring the security of data stored in the cloud is more important than ever. In this post, we will delve into various techniques and tactics that can be employed to secure the cloud and protect valuable information from cyber threats.

    1. Encryption: One of the most fundamental security measures for cloud computing is encryption. By encrypting data before it is stored in the cloud, sensitive information is rendered unreadable to anyone without the proper decryption key. This adds an extra layer of security to data stored in the cloud and helps prevent unauthorized access.

    2. Multi-factor authentication: Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is another crucial security measure for cloud computing. By requiring users to provide multiple forms of verification, such as a password and a code sent to their phone, MFA helps ensure that only authorized users can access cloud resources.

    3. Access controls: Implementing strict access controls is essential for securing the cloud. By assigning permissions based on the principle of least privilege, organizations can limit the access that users have to sensitive data and resources, reducing the risk of unauthorized access.

    4. Regular updates and patches: Keeping cloud infrastructure and applications up to date with the latest security patches is vital for protecting against vulnerabilities that could be exploited by cyber attackers. Regularly updating software and systems helps ensure that they remain secure and resistant to potential threats.

    5. Monitoring and logging: Monitoring cloud activity and logging events can help organizations detect and respond to security incidents in a timely manner. By monitoring for suspicious activity and logging events for later analysis, organizations can gain valuable insights into potential security threats and take proactive measures to mitigate risks.

Securing the cloud requires a combination of technical measures, best practices, and ongoing vigilance. By implementing encryption, multi-factor authentication, access controls, regular updates and patches, and monitoring and logging, organizations can better protect their data and ensure the security of their cloud environments.
