Welcome to the Race Day Feed, coming to you from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. From practice reports to the blow-by-blow from tonight’s program, you’ll find it all right here on the Racer X Race Day Feed. Updates are posted in chronological order, so be sure to scroll down for the latest info. For even more updates be sure to follow us on X (formerly “Twitter”): @Racerxonline.

After four exciting 250SX West races to start the season and four different 250SX winners, today brings us our first 250SX East race—and a gaurentee different 250SX winner. But good luck guessing who it will be! With almost a dozen factory riders on the starting gates today, it is tough to say just who is the title favorite of this big group that features riders such as both 2024 250SX Champions—250SX West Champion RJ Hampshire and 250SX East Champion Tom ViallePierce Brown, Max Anstie, Nate Thrasher, Daxton Bennick, Levi Kitchen, Cameron McAdoo, Seth Hammaker, Chance Hymas, Austin Forkner, and more. Some of these guys are banged up—most notable McAdoo, who confirmed he tore his ACL in his knee last week—but still, there are some seriously talented guys in this field. It is anyone’s guess as to who will finish inside the top five to start the 250SX East season off.

In the 450SX Class, the big headline is Jett Lawrence’s ACL injury that will sideline him for the remainder of the supercross season. You hate to see anyone go out with an injury, especially the 450SX defending champion. Chase Sexton, last weekend’s overall winner in Arizona, comes into today’s fifth round as the championship leader, but Ken Roczen, Eli Tomac, and Cooper Webb are all riding super well and ready to battle today at Raymond James Stadium. Don’t count out Webb, remember, back in 2023 this round was his first win of the season.

And speaking off the stadium, we will have two sand sections in today’s layout, as well a right-hand first turn. Maybe Maximus Vohland will be able to take advantage of his rear-hand brake lever off the starts?! With the temperature high of 82° Fahrenheit, it will be by far the hottest race day so far this season. Things will cool off some come the night show and the main events. Luckily, it seems like we will avoid the rain we saw the last time the series raced here in 2023.

For more from Friday’s press day activities, check out our video preview below.

  • Tampa Bay Rays acquire RHP Alex Faedo from Detroit Tigers

The Tampa Bay Rays acquired right-hander Alex Faedo from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for minor league catcher Enderson Delgado and cash on Monday.

The Tigers designated Faedo, 29, for assignment last week after signing Tommy Kahnle.

Faedo, a Tampa native, went 5-3 with a 3.61 ERA in 37 games (six starts) for the Tigers in 2024. He’s 8-13 with a 4.51 ERA in 64 career games (30 starts) for the Tigers, who drafted him in the first round (No. 18 overall) of the 2017 draft.

Delgado, 20, batted .259 with four home runs and 30 RBIs between stints in rookie ball and Class-A Charleston in 2024.

The Rays announced that infielder Osleivis Basabe was designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster.

The Tampa Bay Rays have made a big move to bolster their pitching staff by acquiring right-handed pitcher Alex Faedo from the Detroit Tigers.

Faedo, 25, was a first-round pick (18th overall) by the Tigers in the 2017 MLB Draft out of the University of Florida. He has shown promise in the minor leagues, posting a 3.90 ERA with 305 strikeouts in 297 innings pitched.

The Rays are hoping that Faedo can provide some much-needed depth to their rotation or bullpen as they look to make a playoff push in the highly competitive American League East.

Stay tuned for more updates on this trade and how Faedo will fit into the Rays’ plans for the rest of the season.

  • Detroit Tigers Ship Off Right-Handed Pitcher to Tampa Bay Rays Via Trade

The Detroit Tigers have completed a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays in which they have traded right-handed pitcher Alex Faedo for catching prospect Enderson Delgado and cash, per Jeff Passan of ESPN.

Faedo has been growing in his role with the Tigers as a spot-starter and a long reliever in his first three seasons, and in 2024 had arguably his best showing.

In 57.1 innings pitched he had a 3.61 ERA, 1.343 WHIP, 55 strikeouts and 28 walks. He started a career-low six games as opposed to 12 each of his last two years. His difficulty has been with injuries, with a few stacking up including a shoulder strain most recently.

Ultimately, this is a move for the future.

Detroit moved off of a pitcher who was designated for assignment to get back an up-and-coming prospect from the Rays. Delgado was ranked as the 37th-best prospect in Tampa Bay’s farm system by Fangraphs about halfway through the 2024 season, and has continued to improve as he currently works at the Single-A level.

Delgado is 20 years old and has produced at a solid level.

In 202, he had a .255/.382/.773 slash line with four home runs and 21 RBI.

This type of production is intriguing, and makes him the type of prospect worth taking a flyer on in a deal like this.

With the Tigers looking somewhat towards the future while still trying to remain competitive and balance their assets between development and current talent, this deal makes sense for the timeline they have begun to distinguish.

The Detroit Tigers have made a move to ship off right-handed pitcher, Joe Jimenez, to the Tampa Bay Rays via trade. Jimenez, who has been with the Tigers since 2017, has struggled to find consistency on the mound in recent seasons.

In exchange for Jimenez, the Tigers will receive a player to be named later or cash considerations. The move comes as the Tigers look to shake up their roster and add some depth to their pitching staff.

The Rays, on the other hand, are hoping that Jimenez can find his form and contribute to their bullpen as they continue their push for a playoff spot. With a solid track record in the past, Jimenez could be a valuable addition to the Rays’ pitching staff.

It will be interesting to see how Jimenez performs with his new team and if the trade pays off for both the Tigers and the Rays. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

  • Tampa City Council approves more money for storm drainage

The Tampa City Council voted to support spending an additional $500,000 a year on storm drain maintenance as residents called for more information about why so much flooding occurred this past hurricane season and getting updates on what’s being done about it monthly.

During a presentation about short-term solutions to flooding, city Mobility Director Vik Bhide said the department planned to ask for $10.5 million next week to upgrade the city’s 16 pump stations, adding back-up generators to power them where they don’t exist as well as monitoring equipment.

Bhide said it could take up to two years to implement the upgrades. In the interim, the city will switch to generator power the day before a storm arrives to avoid power outages taking them out of commission, an issue during Hurricane Milton in October.

The division also asked for the additional $500,000 to address maintenance and improve its pipe inspection system.

The department is working on longer-term solutions with seven consultants that include looking at each drainage basin within the city, Bhide said. That work will begin in February and include modeling using current data and standards, which would allow the department to create a list of capital needs and costs.

But some residents were not put at ease.

Steve Michelini, general manager of the Soho Business Alliance, called the solutions “a day late and a dollar short.

“All of a sudden it’s a crisis that they’ve ignored for many years, not just this mayor,” he said. “It goes back several years. Back then we didn’t have a problem because we didn’t have storms of this significant magnitude.”

He said near his own South Tampa house, every rain brings floods because of poorly designed drainage systems.

Michelini said the council didn’t need new plans but needed to execute ones already in place and focus on maintenance. He said the department would need an immediate appropriation.

“Get the ditches and the retention ponds and the culverts cleaned out,” he said. “And that will solve a lot of problems. It won’t solve an 100% but it’ll be a good first step.”

Other residents spoke of cracks in pipes, poorly maintained retention ponds, culverts, ditches and drains — with trees growing out of some. They spoke of the flooding that came to their neighborhoods as a result.

Pam Cannella, who lives on San Rafael Street in South Tampa, held up binders of photos to show the council.

Anneliese Meier with the Historic Parkland Estates Preservation Society, who is working with neighborhood groups in Concordia Park, Bayshore Gardens, Palma Ceia Pines, Beach Park, Virginia Park and Forrest Hills, said residents want to know where the stormwater assessment fees they pay are going.

“We also want to know what equipment the department has (for) stormwater maintenance, because I don’t think they have enough,” she told the council.

Bhide said the maintenance assessment funds 62 positions in stormwater operations. He also said in the Parkland Estates neighborhood, the Mobility Department removed more than six tons of debris over the past year. He said the department also inspected and cleaned over 7,000 miles of pipe.

“Was it enough to make sure everything was great?” he asked rhetorically. “We feel we’ve done everything we can within the resources we have.” The area, he said, needs more capital infrastructure.

David Laxer, president of Bern’s Steakhouse Co. sent an email to the City Council the night before the meeting, calling the verbal report from the Mobility Department “absurd.”

“Please pay close attention to the items being discussed, Stormwater and Flooding, and note that ALL THESE ITEMS DO NOT HAVE ANY WRITTEN BACK-UP REPORTS!” he wrote. “… No written documents, no maps, no photos, nothing to review in advance. …The lack of transparency and candor to the citizens of Tampa and City Council should disturb you.”

“Management failures and processes/procedures are not in place to properly maintain our current stormwater systems, thus putting our neighborhoods and citizens at risk,” his email said.

Council member Lynn Hurtak agreed with the calls for a breakdown in spending and for monthly reports.

“Just part of what will make people feel better is a continual reminder of where we are, what we’re doing, the types of movement, of movement that’s coming,” she said.

In a recent decision, the Tampa City Council has approved additional funding for storm drainage infrastructure. This move comes in response to the increasing frequency and severity of storms in the area, which have caused significant flooding and damage to properties.

The approved funds will be used to upgrade and expand the city’s storm drainage system, including the installation of larger pipes, improved drainage channels, and enhanced water storage capabilities. This investment is expected to help alleviate flooding issues and better protect residents and businesses from future storm events.

Council members emphasized the importance of proactively addressing storm drainage concerns to mitigate the impact of severe weather on the community. By allocating more resources to this critical infrastructure, the city aims to improve resilience and ensure the safety and well-being of its residents.

Overall, the decision to allocate additional funding for storm drainage reflects the city’s commitment to proactive planning and investment in infrastructure to enhance the overall quality of life for its residents.

  • Tampa leaders look for freshwater flooding solutions after flooding from storms

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, fla — Tampa leaders are looking for solutions to prevent freshwater flooding after last year’s hurricanes destroyed homes and cars.

People like Nikki Little tell us they are frustrated, and some of that is directed towards the city.

“I think they really need to work on drainage,” Little said.

Little rents on the third floor, so her home did not flood, but her friends in South Tampa were not as lucky.

“They’re very stressed out emotionally, but you know they’ll bounce back,” Little said. “They know they will. But it’s an emotional loss that’s impacting most of my friends more than anything,” Little said.

Many neighbors tell me they think the freshwater flooding could have been prevented. It is an issue that City Councilman Bill Carlson recognizes.

“We had lots of neighborhoods flooded. I’ve been to all of them multiple times. We need to do everything we can to prevent flooding the next time,” Carlson said.

He said on Thursday, the council will discuss the current stormwater plan, what went wrong, and the maintenance issues that contributed to the flooding.

“We’ve seen a lot of maintenance problems all over the city. Ditches that were filled in, some of them by homeowners, some just over time. Culverts filled in or broken. We need to get those fixed. We need to do everything we can to prevent flooding in the future,” Carlson said.

Some potential solutions they are considering include improving pump stations, roadway repaving, partnering with other agencies, and allocating money for maintenance.

“The public has a right to know the information,” Carlson said. “The public has a right to know what happened, why they flooded, and what we are going to do about fixing it.”

This is an issue that ABC Action News is committed to staying on top of until the city finds a solution.

“I’ve gotten exhausted from FEMA. We’re 62 and 72 years old, and we’re on Social Security/Disability. What the hell does this country want from us?”
John King shared with ABC Action News the flooding in his Zephyrhills community – more than 3 months after Hurricane Milton.

Pasco County community remains flooded months after Milton

In the wake of recent storms and subsequent flooding in Tampa, local leaders are actively seeking solutions to address freshwater flooding in the city. With climate change exacerbating extreme weather events and rising sea levels, finding effective strategies to mitigate flooding is crucial for the city’s resilience.

One potential solution being considered is the implementation of green infrastructure, such as rain gardens, permeable pavement, and green roofs, which can help absorb and filter stormwater runoff. These nature-based solutions not only reduce flooding but also improve water quality and create green spaces in urban areas.

Additionally, updating and expanding the city’s stormwater infrastructure, including drainage systems and culverts, is essential to better manage excess water during heavy rainfall. Investing in resilient infrastructure can help prevent future flooding events and protect communities from the impacts of climate change.

Collaboration between local government, businesses, and residents is key to developing and implementing effective freshwater flooding solutions in Tampa. By working together and prioritizing resilience, the city can better prepare for the challenges of a changing climate and ensure a safer, more sustainable future for all residents.

  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Evans Named To 2025 Pro Bowl

Mike Evans is headed to his sixth career Pro Bowl, further burnishing his Hall of Fame résumé.

On Monday, the NFL announced that Evans will be replacing the Dallas Cowboys’ CeeDee Lamb on the NFC roster for the 2025 Pro Bowl Games. Lamb is unable to participate due to injury. Evans joins two Tampa Bay Buccaneers teammates, tackle Tristan Wirfs and defensive lineman Vita Vea, both of whom were named as Pro Bowl selections on January 2.

Evans’ six Pro Bowl selections ties him with Bucs legend Mike Alstott for the most by an offensive player in franchise history. Only Hall of Fame defenders Derrick Brooks (11) and Warren Sapp (seven) have more. Evans has been voted into the Pro Bowl in five of the last seven seasons.

Evans’ all-star nod comes after he once again made NFL history, becoming just the second player in NFL history to gain at least 1,000 receiving yards in 11 straight seasons. He joined Hall of Famer Jerry Rice on that abbreviated list, and only Rice, with 14, has more such seasons overall. Despite missing three games and most of a fourth due to a hamstring injury, Evans caught 74 passes for 1,004 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Over 11 NFL seasons, Evans has amassed 836 receptions for 12,864 yards and 105 touchdowns. His 105 touchdown receptions rank ninth in league history and he has reached double digits in that category in six of his 11 NFL campaigns.

The 2025 Pro Bowl Games will take place in Orlando, Florida from January 30 through February 2, culminating in a flag football game.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have another reason to celebrate as wide receiver Mike Evans has been named to the 2025 Pro Bowl roster. This marks Evans’ seventh Pro Bowl selection in his career, solidifying his status as one of the top receivers in the NFL.

Evans has been a key contributor to the Buccaneers’ success over the years, consistently putting up impressive numbers and making big plays when it matters most. His combination of size, speed, and hands have made him a nightmare for opposing defenses and a favorite target for quarterback Tom Brady.

Fans can look forward to seeing Evans showcase his skills against the best of the best in the Pro Bowl, where he will undoubtedly put on a show and represent the Buccaneers with pride. Congratulations to Mike Evans on this well-deserved honor! #GoBucs #ProBowlBound

  • Tampa Bay Rays Infielder Absolutely Crushing It in Winter Ball

After an up-and-down season in the big leagues in 2024, Tampa Bay Rays infielder Junior Caminero is putting together a great season in the Dominican Winter League.

Per the @MLB account on “X:”

Junior Caminero is raking in LIDOM and providing some electric home run celebrations

Through 15 LIDOM Round Robin postseason games, the former No. 1 overall prospect is hitting .448 with a 1.285 OPS, 12 extra-base hits, and 14 RBI.

Caminero, the former No. 1 prospect in the sport, played 43 games for the Rays in 2024, posting a 0.7 WAR. He hit .248 with six homers and 18 RBI. He figures to play a more prominent role in 2025, especially as Wander Franco’s legal situation continues to keep him from playing in Major League Baseball.

Having debuted in 2023, Caminero has played in 50 games for the Rays. He’s joined by Jonathan Aranda, Oslevis Basabe, Jose Caballero, Yandy Diaz, Brandon Lowe, Curtis Mead, Christopher Morel, Richie Palacios and Taylor Walls as infielders on the 40-man roster.

The Rays are coming off a season in which they went 80-82, finishing fourth in the American League East and missing the playoffs.

Though they will play the 2025 season at Steinbrenner Field, the Rays should continue to be competitive. They will get ace pitcher Shane McClanahan back from injury, strengthening the rotation. They should also get a full year from Drew Rasmussen and Shane Baz, who are back and healthy from their own injury issues.

Spring training begins in three weeks.
