  • Failure to convert breakpoints proves costly for Tauson in semifinal in Linz

Failure to convert a number of break points proved costly for Clara Tauson when she lost the semifinal in the WTA-500 tournament in Linz to Dayana Yastremska 6-1, 6-4.

Clara Tauson failed to get past the semifinal at the WTA 500 tournament in Linz, Austria.

The young Dane lost by a fairly clear margin in two sets to Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska, who is number 72 in the world, but seeded as number five in the tournament. Thus, Tauson also missed the opportunity to book the ticket for the biggest final of her career.

Although Tauson never found her top level, Yastremska was also extremely skilled and made few mistakes.

Tauson on the other hand failed to convert a large number of breakpoints which could potentially have turned the tide in her favour.

In Sunday’s final, Dayana Yastremska will either face Karolina Muchova or Ekaterina Alexandrova.

In a disappointing turn of events, Clara Tauson’s inability to convert crucial breakpoints ultimately cost her the match in the semifinals of the Linz Open. The young Danish player showed great resilience and determination throughout the match, but was unable to capitalize on key opportunities when it mattered most.

Tauson, who has been in impressive form leading up to the semifinals, faced a tough opponent in the form of her opponent. Despite creating numerous chances to break serve and take control of the match, Tauson faltered at crucial moments and was unable to convert on her breakpoints.

As a result, Tauson found herself on the losing end of a hard-fought battle, with her opponent ultimately prevailing in a closely contested match. While the loss is undoubtedly a tough pill to swallow for Tauson and her supporters, it serves as a valuable learning experience for the young player as she continues to develop and grow in the world of professional tennis.

Moving forward, Tauson will no doubt look to improve her ability to convert breakpoints and capitalize on key opportunities in order to secure victory in future matches. With her talent and determination, there is no doubt that Tauson has a bright future ahead of her in the world of tennis.

  • Cirstea no match for Tauson as Dane books quarterfinal-ticket in Linz

Romanias Sorana Cirstea was not match for Denmarks for Denmarks Clara Tauson in the WTA-500 tournament in Linz as Tauson booked her ticket to the quarterfinals of the tournament where she is set to face the winner between Anna Blinkova and Elina Svitolina.

Clara Tauson advanced to the quarter-finals of the WTA 500 tournament in Linz, Austria on Wednesday.

The Dane, who is number 39 in the world and seeded as number eight in the tournament won relatively comfortably against Cirstea who is ranked 70 in the world.

The 34-year-old Romanian was broken twice in the first set, and Tauson took a 5-1 lead. Cirstea saved a set point and reduced to 2-5, and the Romanian fought hard to get back into the match.

Tauson then wasted three more set points but remained calm and took the first set when she converted her fifth set point.

In the second set, Tauson continued her bright rhythm and broke her opponent cleanly in the first game.

Even under pressure, Tauson was able to turn baseline duels to his advantage. She didn´t serve as well in the second set but still managed to to take a 4-2 lead before Cirstea broke back.

However, it was just a short flourishing for Cirstea as the tide again immediately swung in the favour of Tauson when she broke Cirsteas game to 5-4 and following held her own serve to win the match.

In a dominating display of skill and determination, Clara Tauson proved to be too much for Sorana Cirstea as she secured her spot in the quarterfinals of the Linz Open. The young Danish player showcased her talent and composure, outclassing her opponent in straight sets.

Tauson’s powerful serves and aggressive groundstrokes kept Cirstea on the defensive throughout the match, leaving the Romanian struggling to find her rhythm. Despite her best efforts, Cirstea was unable to match Tauson’s relentless pressure and precision on the court.

With this impressive victory, Tauson continues to make a name for herself on the WTA tour and is certainly a player to watch in the upcoming matches. Her exceptional performance against Cirstea has solidified her status as a formidable contender in the tournament, and fans can expect more exciting tennis from the young Dane as she progresses further in the competition.

Top seed Madison Keys will take on Clara Tauson in the quarterfinals of the ASB Classic 2025.

Keys kicked off her run in Auckland with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Lucia Bronzetti, which set up a second-round date with Jaqueline Cristian. The first set was a walk in the park for the American, who dropped only one game en route to taking it. Her opponent played slightly better in the second set but proved to be no match for her, and she won the match 6-1, 6-2.

Tauson beat Lucrezia Stefanini 6-2, 6-3 to reach the second round, where former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin awaited her. The young Dane went down an early break in the opening set, and couldn’t recover from that setback, which cost her the set.

Tauson found herself on the backfoot after going down 3-0 in the second set but bagged the next three games to get back on serve. However, Kenin inched ahead once again by claiming the next two games and eventually served for the match.

Tauson struck back in time and stopped the American from closing out the match. The set soon went to a tie-break, in which the 22-year-old raced to a 6-2 lead but let go of four set points. She then saved a match point and nabbed the set on her fifth set point to force a decider.

The third set saw Tauson giving up a break advantage to let Kenin back into the match. The set went down to the wire, and she outplayed the American in the tie-break to wrap up a 4-6, 7-6 (7), 7-6 (3) comeback win.

Tauson rallied from the brink of defeat to sneak past Kenin. She rained down 26 aces and won 79 percent of her first serve points. Keys, meanwhile, had it easy against Cristian, and other than losing her serve once, there weren’t any major hiccups.

While Tauson showed nerves of steel to get past Kenin, she will still need to raise her level if she intends to take down Keys. The 22-year-old had a 2-11 record against the top 50 players last year, clearly indicating that she’s yet to reach that level of consistency to challenge the big guns on the tour.

Keys, meanwhile, went 16-6 against players ranked outside the top 20 in 2024. Given her performances in the first couple of rounds, coupled with Tauson’s poor record against top players, the American will be expected to continue her run here.

Pick: Madison Keys to win in straight sets.
