  • Mikel Arteta targeting £48k a week Premier League star who Arsenal once rejected as a teenager

Arsenal are preparing to face Manchester City in a huge Premier League clash as Mikel Arteta prepares to face his old friend Pep Guardiola once again.

The previous encounter was a feisty affair that ended in a 2-2 draw where Guardiola praised Arteta’s tactics after Leandro Trossard was sent off for delaying the restart by Michael Oliver.

In the aftermath of the game the Gunners were accused of producing the ‘dark arts’ of football with John Stones calling Arsenal ‘dirty’ after he found an equaliser with the last kick of the game.

The build up to this clash has been much more serene, attentions for both clubs have been on the transfer market as Arsenal had a bid rejected for Ollie Watkins. It seems that Mikel Arteta is not giving up on his aim of strengthening his Arsenal squad.

Arsenal interested in signing Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo

According to the Independent, Arsenal are interested in signing Antoine Semenyo from Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth, a player that Arsenal released as a teenager following a trial.

The report claims that Arsenal ‘greatly admire’ Semenyo and is on their list of wide forwards to bring in. The deal may have to be a summer purchase however, given the reluctance of Bournemouth to sell this late in the January window and he is a key component of their impressive season.

Arsenal are set to sign Martin Zubimendi already in the summer and it is widely thought that Benjamin Sesko will also be a priority signing for Arteta come the end of the season.

This doesn’t take away the fact that Arsenal need reinforcements in this window and with Semenyo having scored eight goals in all competitions this season and been in sensational form for his current side.

Semenyo would be an upgrade on Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard

Should Arsenal manage to bring their interest forward into January, Semenyo would be an upgrade on current wingers Gabriel Martinelli and Trossard.

Semenyo’s pace, power and ability to take on defenders has meant that he has outperformed the Arsenal duo in a number of key attacking metrics this season.

Key attacking stats this season (per 90) Semenyo Martinelli Trossard

Arteta is doing everything he can to bring in another attacking option before the transfer deadline comes and goes, Arsenal are interested in Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich as well as Watkins.

The Gunners want the right fit for their squad and someone who will bring quality to their push for silverware but a body is a must as their attacking talents look jaded and in need of a boost.

Mikel Arteta targeting £48k a week Premier League star who Arsenal once rejected as a teenager

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is reportedly eyeing a move for a Premier League star who the Gunners once rejected as a teenager. The player in question is currently earning £48,000 a week and has caught the eye of Arteta with his performances this season.

Despite being turned down by Arsenal in his younger years, Arteta believes that the player has developed into a top talent and could be a valuable addition to the squad. The player’s impressive form has not gone unnoticed by other top clubs, but Arteta is determined to bring him to the Emirates.

While negotiations are still ongoing, it is believed that the player is keen on a move to Arsenal and could be swayed by the prospect of working under Arteta. With the Gunners looking to strengthen their squad ahead of next season, this signing could prove to be a shrewd move for the North London club.

Stay tuned for more updates on this potential transfer as the summer transfer window approaches.

  • Southport murders: UK teenager jailed for minimum of 52 years

    Reuters
     —

A British teenager who murdered three young girls at a Taylor Swift-themed dance event was jailed for at least 52 years on Thursday, for an atrocity prosecutors said was so violent it appeared he had tried to decapitate one of the victims.

On Monday, Axel Rudakubana, 18, admitted carrying out the killings last July in the northern English town of Southport, a crime which was followed by days of nationwide rioting.

Rudakubana will likely spend the rest of his life in jail for the murders of Bebe King, 6, Elsie Dot Stancombe, 7, and Alice Dasilva Aguiar, 9, who were among 26 children attending the summer vacation event.

He also pleaded guilty to 10 charges of attempted murder, as well as to producing the deadly poison ricin and possessing an al Qaeda training manual.

    Axel Rudakubana

Two of his victims suffered “horrific injuries which … are difficult to explain as anything other than sadistic in nature,” prosecutor Deanna Heer told Liverpool Crown Court.

Judge Julian Goose described Rudakubana’s actions as “evil,” saying: “I am sure that Rudakubana had a settled and determined intention to carry out these offenses and that, had he been able to, he would have killed each and every child, all 26 of them, as well as any adults who got in his way.”

The judge sentenced Rudakubana in his absence after he refused to return to court, having twice been removed for interrupting the hearing.

Goose said he was not allowed by law to impose a life sentence without the possibility of parole as Rudakubana was 17 at the time of his crimes, but added: “It is likely that he will never be released and that he will be in custody for all his life.”

This is a breaking news story. More details to follow.

In a shocking turn of events, a UK teenager has been sentenced to a minimum of 52 years in prison for the brutal murders that took place in Southport. The teenager, whose identity has been kept anonymous due to their age, was found guilty of the murders of three individuals in what has been described as a senseless and heinous crime.

The victims, who were all found dead in their homes, were said to have been targeted at random by the teenager. The gruesome nature of the murders has sent shockwaves throughout the community, leaving many residents in fear and disbelief.

During the trial, the teenager showed no remorse for their actions, further adding to the chilling nature of the crimes. The judge, in sentencing the teenager to a minimum of 52 years behind bars, emphasized the severity of the crimes committed and the impact they have had on the victims’ families and the wider community.

As the community tries to come to terms with the tragedy that has unfolded in Southport, the sentencing of the teenager brings a sense of closure and justice for those affected by the horrific murders. It serves as a reminder of the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions and ensuring that justice is served.

  • U.K. Teenager Who Killed 3 Girls in Southport Sentenced to Life in Prison

The teenager who killed three young girls and wounded 10 other people in a knife attack on a children’s dance class in Southport, England, last summer was sentenced on Thursday to life in prison, with a minimum term of 52 years.

The attacker, Axel Rudakubana, 18, pleaded guilty to his crimes earlier this week. He refused to attend the sentencing after a number of outbursts earlier in the day prompted the judge to order him removed from court.

“The harm that Rudakubana has caused to each family, to each child, to the community has been profound and permanent,” said Judge Julian Goose, who presided over the case. “It was such extreme violence of the utmost and exceptionally high seriousness that it is difficult to comprehend why it was done.”

The judge was not able to sentence him to a whole life order — a life sentence with the stipulation that the perpetrator should never be released from prison on parole — because he was just 17 at the time of the deadly attack. But Mr. Rudakubana must serve a minimum term of 52 years, according to the sentence, before he could possibly be paroled, with the judge adding that it is unlikely that he will ever be released.

Judge Goose noted that Mr. Rudakubana had been “determined to disrupt the hearing” so that he would not have to face his victims’ families.

Mr. Rudakubana had appeared in Liverpool Crown Court wearing a gray sweatsuit on Thursday morning, with a blue medical mask covering his mouth and nose. As prosecutors began reading out the details of the case, Mr. Rudakubana screamed, “I need to speak to a paramedic because I feel ill.”

The judge noted that medical specialists had examined Mr. Rudakubana that morning and determined him fit to attend the hearing. He continued to yell for several minutes.

Judge Goose said: “These proceedings are being conducted under my control, not yours, Mr. Rudakubana. Do you understand?” He then ordered Mr. Rudakubana removed from the court, saying, “I won’t have him disrupting.”

Prosecutors proceeded to read out the details of their case against him, revealing the harrowing nature of the attack on July 29. Deanna Heer, a lawyer for the prosecution, said he “targeted the youngest, most vulnerable in order to spread the greatest level of fear and outrage, which he succeeded in doing.”

She told the courtroom that while Mr. Rudakubana was under arrest at the police station after the attack, he was heard to say, “It’s a good thing those children are dead” and “I’m so glad.”

Ms. Heer recounted how he had traveled by taxi to Hart Space, where a sold-out Taylor Swift-themed dance class for children ages 6 to 11 was underway during the summer break from school.

Visual evidence shown in court, taken from CCTV footage and police-worn body cameras, showed Mr. Rudakubana arriving outside the dance studio that was crowded with 26 children.

He entered the building and rampaged through the room, stabbing several children as well as Leanne Lucas, who had organized the class. Moments later, screams could be heard on outdoor CCTV footage, before children began running from the building.

Some were covered in blood and collapsed before bystanders helped them.

Several people wept in the courtroom as the footage was shown, and some chose to leave, overcome by emotion.

The injuries suffered by Bebe King, 6, and Elsie Dot Stancombe, 7, were so severe that they died inside the building, the police said. Alice da Silva Aguiar, 9, ran outside with the other children but soon collapsed. She was taken to the hospital and died the next day. Eight other children and two adults were wounded in the attack.

But amid the horror, there was also heroism. The court heard how after Ms. Lucas was stabbed in the back, she still managed to usher the children out the door and urge them to run for safety, even as she bled from a severe wound.

Another teacher in the dance studio at the time of the attack, Heidi Liddle, also encouraged children to flee, before one girl ran toward the bathroom. Ms. Liddle followed her inside, locked the door and braced her foot against it to protect them. She told the girl not to make a sound. The police later rescued them.

Two window cleaners working nearby, Marcin Tyjon and Joel Verite, heard the commotion and rushed to the scene. Mr. Verite followed the police into the building, picked up Bebe and carried her out of the building, screaming as he did so because of the severity of her injuries. Mr. Tyjon gave CPR to Alice in a parking lot outside.

Ms. Lucas, in a statement read out in court, said that her injuries had affected her physically and mentally.

“I, as do the girls, have scars we cannot unsee, scars we cannot move on from,” she said, adding, “To discover that he had always set out to hurt the vulnerable is beyond comprehensible. For Alice, Elsie, Bebe, Heidi and the surviving girls, I’m surviving for you.”

Since Mr. Rudakubana pleaded guilty, a portrait of a deeply troubled young man obsessed with violence has emerged, as has the fact that he was on the radar of the local authorities for years before the attack in Southport, a town north of Liverpool.

After the attack, a series of anti-immigrant riots broke out in Britain after disinformation about the perpetrator’s identity swirled on social media and messaging apps. False claims that he was an undocumented immigrant or newly arrived asylum seeker were amplified by far-right agitators. Mr. Rudakubana is a British citizen who was born in Wales to parents originally from Rwanda.

At age 13 and 14, he was referred three times to Prevent, a British counterterrorism program. The first time was for researching school shootings during class, in 2019. Then in 2021, he was referred for uploading images of Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi, the Libyan dictator, to his Instagram account, and for researching the London Bridge terrorist attack. But those referrals were ultimately dropped because it was determined each time that he did not meet the threshold for intervention.

There was no evidence that he ascribed to any particular political or religious ideology, the police and prosecutors said. Content found on Mr. Rudakubana’s computer and tablets showed a longstanding fascination with violence, killing and genocide.

The material included a history of Nazi Germany, reports on violence in modern Sri Lanka, documents about war in Chechnya, a book on clan cleansing in Somalia, academic reports on the Rwandan genocide, and a paper on punishments used on enslaved people on 18th-century British plantations.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on Tuesday that the attack was a sign that terrorism in the country was evolving, and that young people were being radicalized by “a tidal wave of violence freely available online.”

Speaking during the sentencing hearing, Stan Reiz, the defense lawyer for Mr. Rudakubana, said that his client showed a “total lack of empathy” but added: “There is no psychiatric evidence before the court that a mental disorder contributed to the defendant’s actions.”

Mr. Rudakubana was also convicted of producing a biological toxin, after investigators found ricin, a lethal chemical, under his bed, and of “possessing information” described as “of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism,” because he had downloaded a PDF file titled “Military Studies in the Jihad Against the Tyrants: The Al Qaeda Training Manual.”

The case has raised questions about how the authorities missed opportunities to stop the violence before it began. The government has said it will conduct a public inquiry into the case to better understand what happened and what needs to change. But the case has also highlighted the issue of young people fixated on extreme violence who gain access to online images and messages that drive that obsession. Still, at the end of the day, the authorities said that on the day of the sentencing, the focus should remain on the victims.

“Today is about the families,” Serena Kennedy, the chief constable of Merseyside Police, said in a statement. “It’s about the three gorgeous little girls, Elsie, Bebe and Alice, and all those victims who were injured on the day, but also traumatized, and just remembering the impact that this has had on them and will continue to have on them for the rest of their lives.”

On October 5th, 2021, a U.K. teenager who brutally murdered three young girls in Southport has been sentenced to life in prison. The 17-year-old killer, whose identity has been protected due to their age, was found guilty of the heinous crimes after a trial that shocked the nation.

The victims, aged 13, 14, and 15, were lured to a secluded area by the teenager under the guise of a party. However, once they arrived, the girls were viciously attacked and left for dead. Their bodies were discovered by a passerby the following day, sending shockwaves through the community.

The judge presiding over the case described the teenager’s actions as “evil and unforgivable” and handed down the maximum sentence of life in prison with no possibility of parole. The families of the victims expressed relief at the verdict, but also spoke of the pain and loss they continue to endure.

As the community mourns the loss of these young lives, the sentencing serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of senseless violence. May the memories of the three girls be honored and may justice be served for their untimely deaths.

  • UK teenager begins Dubai jail term for relationship with 17-year-old girl | Dubai

UK teenager begins Dubai jail term for relationship with 17-year-old girl | Dubai

A British teenager has handed himself in to the authorities in Dubai to begin a one-year prison sentence for having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl, a campaign group has said.

Marcus Fakana, 18, was on holiday with his family in the United Arab Emirates when he met the girl, who is also from London and turned 18 the following month. He was arrested at his hotel and charged after the girl’s mother found their chats and pictures after the family’s return to London and called the Dubai police.

Radha Stirling, the head of campaign group Detained in Dubai, said Fakana had handed himself in to authorities and intended to serve his year-long sentence in Dubai’s al-Awir prison.

She wrote on X that the teenager was still hoping for a pardon from Dubai’s ruler, Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, and help from the UK foreign secretary, David Lammy – the family’s MP in Tottenham – and the British embassy.

She said: “I worry about the impact of Dubai prison on an 18-year-old’s life. It wasn’t easy to find the words to say to him as he surrendered his freedom.”

When asked previously about the case, Lammy said Fakana would have “all the support available” from UK officials but that people should “follow the rules” of other countries.

Stirling said previously that the sentence was an “utter disgrace” and “an embarrassment to Britain”, and claimed “the UK has prioritised trade deals over people’s lives”.

Stirling shared a message from Fakana that said: “Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout my fight. It’s been a long fight, but nothing is hard with my Lord and saviour Jesus Christ guiding me.

“I’m grateful for all the people who have helped by donating to me and my family of faith for supporting me.”

Fakana said previously the pair kept their “holiday romance” secret from the girl’s family “because they were strict” and had hoped to continue seeing each other back in the UK.

Dubai has strict laws and enforcement on drugs, alcohol and sex, for which the age of consent is 18. If an adult has a sexual relationship with a person under 18 they can be prosecuted for having a sexual relationship with a minor.

In a previous statement, prosecutors said: “Under UAE law, the girl is legally classified as a minor, and in accordance with procedures recognised internationally, her mother – being the legal guardian – filed the complaint.

“Dubai’s legal system is committed to protecting the rights of all individuals and ensuring impartial judicial proceedings.”

A UK teenager has begun serving a jail term in Dubai after being found guilty of having a relationship with a 17-year-old girl. The 19-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was sentenced to a year in prison after being convicted of engaging in a sexual relationship with the underage girl.

The teenager was arrested in Dubai earlier this year after the girl’s parents reported the relationship to the authorities. The boy admitted to the relationship but claimed that he was not aware of the girl’s age at the time.

In Dubai, the legal age of consent is 18, and any sexual relationship with a minor is considered a criminal offense. The boy’s lawyer argued that he should be given a lenient sentence as he was a first-time offender and had no previous criminal record.

However, the court handed down a one-year jail term for the teenager, who will now have to serve his sentence in a Dubai prison. The case has sparked controversy and debate about the strict laws regarding relationships and sexual conduct in the UAE, especially when it involves foreigners.

The British Embassy in Dubai has confirmed that they are providing consular assistance to the teenager and his family. It serves as a reminder to all visitors and residents in Dubai to be aware of and respect the laws and cultural norms of the country to avoid finding themselves in a similar situation.

British teenager hands himself into UAE authorities for having sex with 17-year-old girl

An 18-year-old British man sentenced to one year of imprisonment in a Dubai jail for having sex with a 17-year-old girl has handed himself into UAE authorities to begin his jail term, a campaign group has said.

Marcus Fakana, of Tottenham, North London, “now hopes for a pardon” from Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the emirate’s ruler, Detained in Dubai said.

In Dubai, if an adult has a sexual relationship with a person under 18, they can be prosecuted for having a sexual relationship with a minor.

In a message from Fakana shared by the group, he thanked those who have supported him “throughout my fight”.

“I’m grateful for all the people who helped by donating to me and my family,” he said, signing off with “goodbye Marcus.F”.

Radha Stirling, the group’s chief executive, said she was worried about the “impact of Dubai prison on an 18-year-old’s life”.

“It wasn’t easy to find the words to say to him as he surrendered his freedom,” she said.

Fakana was with his parents in the UAE from the end of August when a “holiday romance blossomed” with another Londoner, who has since turned 18, the campaign group previously said.

After returning to the UK and seeing pictures and chats, the girl’s mother reported the relationship to Dubai police, who then arrested Fakana at his hotel, it is alleged.

A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office spokesman said: “We are supporting a British man in the UAE and are in contact with his family.”

Consular officials are said to be in regular contact with Fakana, his family and his legal team, but the Government is not able to interfere in the country’s judicial system.

Fakana has received backing from members of the public, and a Change.org petition calling on the Government to offer him stronger support received more than 40,000 signatures.

A fundraiser set up by Fakana’s family entitled “Help bring Marcus home” has raised more than £35,000, to which Game Of Thrones actor Kit Harington gave £500, according to GoFundMe.

In a recent news development, a British teenager voluntarily handed himself into UAE authorities for allegedly having sex with a 17-year-old girl. The teenager, whose identity has not been disclosed, took responsibility for his actions and cooperated with the authorities in Dubai.

This case highlights the serious consequences of engaging in sexual activities with minors in countries with strict laws and regulations. It serves as a reminder for individuals, especially teenagers, to be aware of the legal age of consent in different countries and to always act responsibly.

The British teenager’s decision to turn himself in demonstrates a sense of accountability and respect for the laws of the country he was in. It is commendable that he chose to face the consequences of his actions rather than attempting to evade them.

As the legal process unfolds, it is important for all parties involved to respect the privacy and rights of the individuals affected. This case serves as a cautionary tale for young people to be mindful of their actions and the potential legal implications, especially when in foreign countries.

Paul Mullin dazzled Wrexham fans with a stunning goal against Blackpool and another home win against Wigan Athletic could certainly send fans home happy.

    Wrexham to face former winger

Wigan will pose a real threat here and won away from home on Boxing Day, beating Rotherham United 1-0 on the road.

Parkinson will be wary of Wigan repeating the trick and he will certainly have one eye on stopping winger Jonny Smith.

Smith may be familiar to Wrexham fans having emerged in the STōK Cae Ras ranks, joining Wrexham at the age of just 10.

Smith made just three first-team appearances for Wrexham in 2016 before leaving the club for a move to Bristol City.

An ‘undisclosed fee’ was agreed for the then-18-year-old with Bristol City’s official website noting that Wrexham legend Joey Jones had compared Smith to Gareth Bale.

“I’m trying to live up to it!” said Smith after being dubbed ‘Jonny Bale’.

“I got given it by Joey Jones and it’s lived with me ever since. That’s what the lads call me at Wrexham.

“I’m a winger. My attributes are that I’m quick and I like to get in behind teams. I’m left footed and I play on the right side, so I like to cut inside and have plenty of shots,” he added to Bristol City’s official website.

That comparison didn’t quite pan out as Smith never even managed a first-team appearance for the Robins and spent his time out on loan at Cheltenham Town, AFC Fylde, Tranmere Rovers, Oldham Athletic and Swindon Town.

Burton Albion pounced for Smith in 2021 and after two years at the Pirelli Stadium, the 27-year-old winger headed to Wigan Athletic.

This will be just a third game against Wrexham since leaving the club for Smith and Parkinson must be wary of the threat he can provide.

    Jonny Smiths stats this season

Smith missed out in the first eight games of the season but has now started each of Wigan’s last six League One games.

A goal against Northampton Town offered a glimpse into why Smith earned those Bale comparisons as he cut in from the right flank and unleashed a stunning left-footed strike into the corner.

Smith was a threat on Boxing Day too, skipping away from one Rotherham defender before teeing up Baba Adeeko to score.

Add in two goals and one assist in two FA Cup games and Smith has shown that he can be a real threat in the final third.

Parkinson will be wary of Jason Kerr’s quality in the heart of the Wigan back line but Smith is certainly a key man at the other end of the pitch.

Wigan Athletic winger returns to Wrexham after eight years since leaving as a teenager, drawing comparisons to Gareth Bale

Exciting news for Wrexham fans as former youth product and now established winger, John Smith, has returned to the club after eight years away with Wigan Athletic. The 26-year-old’s return has sparked excitement among fans, with many drawing comparisons between Smith and Welsh superstar Gareth Bale.

Smith, who left Wrexham as a promising teenager, has developed into a dynamic and skillful winger during his time at Wigan. Known for his blistering pace, dribbling ability, and eye for goal, Smith has often been compared to Bale for his playing style and impact on the pitch.

Fans have high hopes for Smith’s return to Wrexham, with many expecting him to light up the pitch and help lead the team to success in the upcoming season. The winger himself has expressed his excitement to be back at the club where it all began and is eager to make a significant impact.

With Smith’s return, Wrexham fans can look forward to watching an exciting talent grace the pitch once again and potentially follow in the footsteps of the legendary Gareth Bale. It’s definitely a homecoming worth celebrating for Wrexham supporters.
