  • Greenville community members take advantage of warmer temperatures

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – After freezing temperatures, the warmer weather has made a comeback and Greenville residents were taking full advantage of that today.

Whether it’s running, biking, fishing, or even frisbee – at the Greenville Town Common Friday you could see community members out and about enjoying the warmer weather by partaking in many activities.

While above-average temperatures in eastern Carolina aren’t uncommon, 70-degree temperatures don’t come around too often. ECU student Ireland Coffey has a highly energetic dog and was not going to miss this opportunity to enjoy the weather.

“During the winter, it’s kinda hard and we don’t love it as much but its been so nice to be outside when it is this nice outside so we took the first chance we had to go on a run today,” Coffey said.

As morning turned to noon today, more and more residents found themselves enjoying the weather, even bringing their kids, friends, and families outside.

But at the end of the day, some say it does not matter what the weather is like. ECU Student Brock Lasure loves to play frisbee and according to him, snow or no snow he is outside.

“It does not really matter what the weather is like I actually went outside and played this while it was snowing and lost a few in the snow,” ECU Student, Brock Lasure said.

As the temperatures begin to rise in Greenville, community members are making the most of the warmer weather by getting outside and enjoying the sunshine. From families taking walks in the park to friends gathering for picnics, the community is coming together to soak up the beautiful spring weather.

Local businesses are also seeing an increase in foot traffic as residents venture out to enjoy outdoor dining, shopping, and other activities. Restaurants with outdoor seating are filling up quickly, and parks and green spaces are bustling with people playing sports, walking their dogs, and simply enjoying the fresh air.

With more people getting vaccinated and restrictions easing, there is a sense of optimism in the air as Greenville residents look forward to a summer filled with outdoor events and gatherings. Whether it’s a hike in the mountains, a day at the lake, or simply sitting outside with a good book, the community is taking full advantage of the warmer temperatures and embracing all that Greenville has to offer.

  • Sophie Turner sends temperatures soaring in a purple bikini as she enjoys a lavish girls’ getaway at a £2,400-per-night resort in the Maldives

Sophie Turner showcased her sensational figure in a purple bikini as she posed for sizzling Instagram snaps during a lavish girls trip in the Maldives on Tuesday.

The actress, 28, revealed she is happier than ever as she spent quality time with her close pals during the vacation at the JOALI resort, which coasts a staggering £2,400 per night.

Sophie wowed in the purple two-piece which boasted a triangle top and matching bottoms as she posed on the picturesque beach.

She was all smiles as she shielded from the sun behind a pair of sunglasses and threw her arms in the air with joy while holding up a book.

The Game Of Thrones star revealed she went snorkeling with her three friends as they posed for a selfie on a boat wearing flippers and masks before jumping in the ocean.

In another picture, Sophie was seen swimming deep in the sea surrounded by small fish.

Later returning to land, the mother-of-two sipped on a glass of wine as she enjoyed a cooking class on the island.

Sophie looked every inch the part as she pulled on an apron over her red playsuit as she cooked food on the stove.

She was all smiles as she snapped a selfie while riding a bike with her friends along the wooden paths leading to the stilt hotel rooms over the sea.

In other pictures the beauty cooled off from the hot sun in the water with her friends before two girls were pictured play fighting.

Sophie wrote: ‘Who knew that all it takes to be happy is tea tasting, perfume making, breathwork, sound therapy, spotting dolphins, watsu, cooking classes, turtle snorkeling, massages and getting burnt on the beach with your besties in the Maldives at @joalibeing’.

It comes as Sophie looked back fondly at her romance with boyfriend Peregrine Pearson in an Instagram post shared earlier this month.

The star couldn’t contain her love for the 30-year-old aristocrat in her photos, which included a loved-up one in which she jumped into his arms while snapping a selfie.

The blonde beauty beamed as she wrapped her arms and legs around Peregrine, who is the heir to Michael Pearson, 4th Viscount Cowdray.

It comes as Sophie looked back fondly at her romance with boyfriend Peregrine Pearson in an Instagram post shared earlier this month

Peregrine — whom Sophie has expressed interest in starting a family with — was featured in several of her other photos from last year, including a cute image of the two sitting on the deck of a boat.

She has been dating Peregrine since December of 2023, just months after the end of her marriage to singer and actor Joe Jonas.

In November of 2024, insiders told DailyMail.com that Sophie was interested in one day having children with the British aristocrat.

‘Sophie is open to having kids one day even though that is not on the slate for right now.

‘She is in love with Peregrine, and she knows that he wants to be a father one day as this is discussed with couples,’ they said.

‘She loves her kids very much and is a great mom. She puts her children first which Peregrine admires her for.’

While she has an impressive net worth of several million dollars thanks to her popular films and shows, Peregrine’s wealth dwarfs hers. The heir is reportedly worth more than $224 million, thanks to his family’s connections.

Sophie and her ex Joe — with whom she shares daughters Willa, four, and Delphine, two — finalised their divorce settlement in September of last year, just over a year after he filed to divorce her.

Sophie Turner, best known for her role as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones, is currently living her best life in the Maldives. The actress recently shared some stunning photos of herself soaking up the sun in a purple bikini at a luxurious resort that costs a whopping £2,400 per night.

In the photos, Sophie can be seen lounging by the pool, sipping on cocktails, and enjoying the crystal-clear waters of the Maldives. With her radiant smile and killer curves, it’s no wonder she’s sending temperatures soaring wherever she goes.

The 25-year-old actress is reportedly on a lavish girls’ getaway with her friends, making the most of their time in paradise. From snorkeling in the coral reefs to indulging in spa treatments, Sophie and her squad are making the most of their time at the exclusive resort.

Fans have been quick to praise Sophie for her stunning beach looks and enviable vacation, with many commenting on how happy and relaxed she looks in the photos. Whether she’s exploring the island or simply basking in the sun, Sophie Turner is definitely living her best life in the Maldives.

  • Scattered snow and cold temperatures make a return for the weekend

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Happy weekend, Utah! An area of low pressure dipped in from the Pacific Northwest and we’ve seen periods of light snowfall and a band of snow set up for some in the state.

The cold front associated with this low-pressure system stalled over northern Utah and areas underneath it are getting steady. However, there will be light snow and minimal valley accumulations, and mountain totals should be in the 4-8″ range under the snow band. Snowfall of 1-4″ is expected from the Salt Lake Valley to roughly Fillmore with the higher totals in between the two. Areas outside of that won’t see much accumulating snowfall.

LDS Church calls recently released Netflix series ‘dangerously misleading’

By this evening, snow will start to taper off as the low drifts west, weakening the front. A few lingering showers may stick around into Sunday morning before the system moves south toward southern California, pulling moisture out of the state.

Looking into next week, the low is expected to slowly crawl across Arizona between late Monday and Thursday. This will bring light snow to southern Utah, mainly around the Brian Head area and down across the Arizona Stateline, with snow likely through Tuesday. While there’s still some uncertainty about totals, accumulations should stay on the lighter side, with the mountains seeing a few inches of snow.

Midweek, a ridge over the west coast will nudge into northern Utah, bringing gradual warming. There’s still some question about the weather pattern later in the week, but there’s a decent chance of more active weather heading into next weekend.

We’ll continue to refine forecast as the storm nears and keep you up-to-date on the latest developments in our 4Warn Weather forecast both on-air and online, we are Good4Utah!

As we head into the weekend, it looks like winter is making a comeback with scattered snow showers and cold temperatures on the horizon.

After a brief reprieve from the cold, Mother Nature is reminding us that it’s still winter with a mix of snow and chilly air expected for the next few days.

Whether you’re a fan of the snow or not, it’s always a good idea to be prepared for winter weather. Make sure to bundle up, drive carefully on icy roads, and keep an eye on any weather advisories in your area.

So grab your warmest coat and your favorite hot beverage, because it looks like we’re in for a cold and snowy weekend ahead. Stay safe and enjoy the winter wonderland! #WinterIsBack #SnowyWeekend #StayWarm

  • Jacksonville to see temperatures in the 80s after deep freeze

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Bundle up this weekend! While the chill lingers, a dramatic warmup is on the horizon.

This January brought over a dozen official freezes, but the cold’s grip will soon loosen. Though frosty mornings persist this weekend, they could be the season’s last gasp. Last February not one freeze occurred marking an early end to Winter and we should see a repeat this year.

Our Winter will start to fade fast

A pattern reversal arrives next week, replacing arctic air with milder breezes and pushing temperatures into the 70s. February brings even more warmth, with the potential for 80-degree days.

The 80s are several days out but you can at least count on milder 70s next week.

The jet stream’s new, less wavy path blocks frigid air from reaching as far south, providing a much-needed break from the chill. This shift follows a weather pattern called the Negative North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) and Arctic Oscillation (AO), which brought colder conditions earlier in January.

Freezing temps Saturday morning across Georgia and into north inland Florida.

As we move into the second half of January, weather models predict a shift to the Positive Phase of the NAO and AO.

East coast warms up with above average temperatures with a cool down on the west coast early in February.

So, keep those winter coats handy for a few more days, Jacksonville, but get ready to trade the parkas for the shorts. Spring weather is on its way!

Copyright 2025 by WJXT News4JAX – All rights reserved.

After a deep freeze that brought record-breaking cold temperatures to Jacksonville, Florida, residents can finally expect some relief as temperatures are set to rise into the 80s this week.

The sudden shift in weather comes as a welcomed change for many who have been bundled up in layers and battling the icy conditions. With sunny skies and warm temperatures in the forecast, it’s the perfect opportunity to get outside and soak up the sun.

Whether you’re planning a day at the beach, a picnic in the park, or simply enjoying a leisurely stroll around town, be sure to take advantage of this brief reprieve from the winter chill. Don’t forget to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and make the most of this taste of springtime weather in the midst of winter.

West Virginia school closures extend into Wednesday as temperatures plummet

As the bitter cold grips the state of West Virginia, school closures have been extended into Wednesday as temperatures continue to plummet. With wind chills reaching dangerous levels, officials are taking precautions to ensure the safety of students and staff.

The decision to close schools for an additional day comes as the National Weather Service issues warnings for dangerously cold conditions. With temperatures expected to remain well below freezing, the risk of frostbite and hypothermia is high.

Parents are advised to keep their children indoors and to dress them warmly if they must go outside. It is important to limit exposure to the cold and to stay hydrated to prevent any potential health risks.

While the closures may disrupt schedules and routines, the safety of students and staff is the top priority. As the cold snap continues, it is important to stay informed and take necessary precautions to stay safe and warm.

  • Western Pa. schools go remote as temperatures plummet

Hundreds of Western Pennsylvania school districts have moved to remote learning Tuesday morning as an arctic blast of near-record-low temperatures are anticipated through Wednesday.

Pittsburgh Public Schools, whose 20,350 students make it the largest district in Allegheny County, will go remote Tuesday, officials said online. A number of others, including Penn Hills, Charleroi, Steel Valley and Clairton school districts, quickly followed suit.

The National Weather Service has announced a cold-weather advisory for the region.

Below-zero temperatures are expected Tuesday and Wednesday, with wind chills dropping to -17 degrees Tuesday, National Weather Service meteorologist Shannon Hefferan said.

It’s been nearly three years since Pittsburgh saw below-zero temperatures. On Jan. 27, 2022, Pittsburgh International Airport reported a reading of -6 degrees, Hefferan said.

Franklin Regional School District officials announced remote instruction “will likely be utilized” due to extremely cold conditions on Tuesday and Wednesday.

“These extreme conditions not only pose safety risks for students but can also impact the reliable operation of transportation and facilities,” Superintendent Gennaro R. Piraino Jr. said on the district’s website. “This January’s challenging weather conditions have required us to prioritize student safety while maintaining instructional continuity.”

Franklin Regional will confirm its plans through a phone-call system the evening before each school day, Piraino said.

Municipal officials also braced for the cold.

Pittsburgh’s CitiParks department Monday activated six “warming centers,” where residents can go to escape the winter weather.

Centers, including those in Brighton Heights, Homewood and South Side, will remain open 10 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, officials said.

The centers also are open Monday, when typically they would close for Martin Luther King Day.

Pittsburgh is unlikely to see temperatures reach historic lows. Record lows for Tuesday and Wednesday both stand at -18 degrees, reported in 1985, Hefferan said.

Pittsburgh’s Jan. 22 temperatures dropped to a record-low of -14 degrees in 1936, Hefferan said. This year, they’re set to reach a low of about -11 degrees.

Nearby Morgantown, W.Va., however, might experience record-low temperatures.

The city’s record low for Wednesday was -5 degrees in 1984, Hefferan said. Forecasts say the temperature there could dip that day to -7 degrees.

The Pittsburgh area isn’t expected to climb above freezing until Saturday or Sunday, when temperatures could climb into the mid-30s.

“That will probably feel balmy to some people after what they’re going to see the next few days,” Hefferan said.

As temperatures in Western Pennsylvania continue to plummet, schools in the region are making the tough decision to switch to remote learning. With wind chills dropping well below zero, many districts are prioritizing the safety and well-being of students and staff.

The extreme cold weather poses a number of challenges for schools, including concerns about heating systems failing, icy road conditions, and the potential for frostbite and hypothermia. By going remote, schools are able to ensure that students can continue their education from the safety and warmth of their homes.

While the switch to remote learning may be a disruption for some families, it is ultimately a necessary precaution to protect the health and safety of everyone involved. As temperatures are expected to remain low in the coming days, schools are monitoring the situation closely and will continue to provide updates to families as needed.

In the meantime, students and families are encouraged to stay warm, bundle up, and take precautions to prevent cold-related illnesses. With a little extra care and attention, we can all weather this cold snap together. Stay safe, stay warm, and stay connected as we navigate these chilly days ahead.
