Jim Gaffigan: The comedian might be getting slimmer but his career is growing and he returns to the comfort food of Tampa, where he worked as a young college graduate, pre-comedy. Epiphany: Around noon, dozens of boys are expected to dive into Spring Bayou for the cross at the 118th Epiphany celebration in Tarpon Springs. It is the largest commemoration in the Western Hemisphere of Jesus Christ’s baptism in the Jordan River and last year drew 20,000 spectators. The day begins with a service at St. Nicholas Cathedral and then a march to the spring where a dove will be released to symbolize the descent of the Holy Spirit. The Archbishop of America will bless the waters and toss a white cross into the bayou. The boy who retrieves it is said to receive a year’s worth of blessings. Free. 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday (Jan. 6). Largo Central Park Train Rides: Ride around Largo Central Park on the miniature railroad on the first full weekend of the month. Mapping the American Sea: A Cartographic History of the Gulf of Mexico: Following his conquest of the Aztec Empire in 1522, Hernán Cortés wrote a lengthy letter to Spain’s King Charles V. It is the earliest printed map with the name “Florida” and the first accurate map of the Gulf of Mexico. These rare finds have been unveiled to the public for the first time in Florida in this new exhibit. Remains on display through April 27. Included with museum admission. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
