  • Three Takeaways From Alabama Basketball’s Tense Win Over LSU

TUSCALOOSA, Ala.— No. 4 Alabama men’s basketball defeated LSU 80-73 on Saturday evening.

The Alabama and LSU men’s basketball programs came into SEC play with the same record, but they’ve each had very different results when facing indisputably the nation’s best conference this season. Nevertheless, that didn’t matter in this one as the game was close from start to finish.

There’s so much to dissect from this matchup at Coleman Coliseum. Here are three takeaways:

No Sears, No Problem for Alabama Backcourt

There’s no doubt about it. Alabama may have won a game against one of its biggest rivals, but the benching of Preseason All-American guard Mark Sears for the entire second half was the main story from Saturday night’s win. Sears played 17 minutes in the first half but was held scoreless, missing all five of his field goal attempts, but added three assists, three rebounds and two turnovers.

For a large majority of the second half, Sears had a towel around his shoulders and often covered his mouth with it while talking to numerous assistant coaches and teammates. He appeared to have a look of frustration throughout his time on the bench as well. The ESPN broadcast said that he wasn’t injured, which added to the mystery.

“I’ll just say this, and I’m not going to talk anymore about playing time stuff, we went with the guys in the second half that thought gave us the best chance to win this game, and we won the game,” Alabama head coach Nate Oats said during the postgame press conference. “And we haven’t done that very often this year. So that’s all I’m going to say about that.”

As the final score states, Alabama got the job done without Sears in the second half. This was much in part due to the Crimson Tide’s depth at guard with Aden Holloway and Chris Youngblood, who led the team in scoring with 19 and 14 points respectively.

“At first, my family thought I was gonna be mad about not starting, but I was like, man, this team is wonderful,” Youngblood said. “I just embrace this come-off-the-bench role with my boy Biz [Holloway], but they put me in the starting lineup, so I don’t get to come off the bench with him no more. But, you know, it was fun.”

That starting spot had previously been occupied by freshman guard Labaron Philon, who scored 11 points off the bench Saturday and is still seeking to fully emerge from some recent struggles, including a game on Jan. 14 in which he didn’t hit on a field goal attempt. He was also dealing with a minor ankle tweak and did not practice Friday.

A Tale of Two Halves for the Crimson Tide Frontcourt

“LSU is capable of beating us at home. They’ve out-rebounded teams frequently enough and we’ve had an issue with some rebounding at times this year. They’ve gotten to the free-throw line, I think they’re 10-0 when they’ve shot more free throws than their opponents. We have to be able to guard without fouling––we’ve had an issue with that. So some stuff we’ve had issues with they do well.”

This was an excerpt of the answer that Oats gave when asked why LSU shouldn’t be overlooked during Friday’s press conference. Fast forward to the midway point of Saturday’s game, he was correct to be worried about these Tiger tendencies.

The easiest stat to paint the picture would be that Alabama had 17 total rebounds at halftime and LSU forward Corey Chest had 15 at that point with an unheard nine offensive rebounds. Chest, among others, bruised Alabama down low before the break with a whopping 13 offensive rebounds which led to 10 second-chance points.

Alabama forwards and bigs Clifford Omoruyi, Grant Nelson, Jarin Stevenson and Mouhamed Dioubate were practically silenced in the first half, which was a major reason for a 1-4 team in conference play being tied at 40 with a 5-1 program.

But a switch flipped in the Crimson Tide’s favor during the second half as LSU only had four offensive rebounds and four second-chance points in the latter 20 minutes. Dioubate finished with 14 points while Nelson had 12 and Omoruyi scored eight with four offensive rebounds (nine total).

“Cliff, I didn’t think he was bringing it [in the first half],” Oats said. “They had a kid with 15 rebounds. Cliff was not rebounding like he needed to, wasn’t playing as hard as we would’ve liked and he ends up going on playing extremely hard in the second half. He had a great attitude on the bench and ends up winning the Hard Hat after not starting the second half. So I kind of just told the guys that’s how life goes sometimes––there’s a little adversity and you gotta challenge it well. I was super proud of the way Cliff handled it.

“You look at Dioubate, I didn’t think he was his normal self in the first half. I thought it was better in the second half. I thought Jarin Stevenson, like I said, the guy only scored three points and had three rebounds, but he’s locked into the defense and ends up with three steals and plus-16. I thought Jarin’s effort was pretty good…I thought he was pretty good guarding people. And Grant, I mean, Grant’s been pretty solid all year, to be honest. That three he hit was big, the free throws were big.”

Richard Hendrix was the last Alabama player to put up 20 rebounds in a game and he did in 2007. Chest had 15 in the first half but only three in the second, none of which came on the offensive glass.

Defense Won the Game for Alabama

While Alabama’s offense was relatively linear throughout, the Crimson Tide’s defense was jolted out of bed with a different tenacity. These efforts led to LSU finishing the game shooting 39.4 percent from the field, including a rough 3-for-23 performance from behind the arc. Of course, some of these shots were uncontested but Alabama overall did a very solid job defending the perimeter.

Alabama could’ve defended better down low as LSU guards Jordan Sears and Cam Carter’s 38 combined points were often scored in the paint. The Tigers finished the game with 40 points in the paint––22 in the first half and 18 in the second.

“I thought we did a pretty good job defensively in the second half,” Oats first said in his opening statement. “We gave up 1.11 [points per possession] in the first half and then held them to 0.83 in the second half. So we’ve been challenging these guys. I didn’t think our second-half defense had been very good lately, so we made the point to the guys, we’re done starting the same group that starts the game.

“We’re going to start the guys that we think give us the best chance to get a great start in the second half. So we subbed in two guys in the starting lineup––kind of looked at some leverage numbers, plus-minus numbers and kind of challenged a couple of guys. I couldn’t be more proud of our guys in the second half.”

The Crimson Tide swiped the ball away from the Tigers a good amount over the course of the game as it logged 10 steals. Stevenson led the way with three, Holloway had two and everyone but Sears and Nelson recorded one. Alabama only had two blocks on the night, but both of which came from Youngblood.

“Our defense essentially won the game,” Oats said. “I mean, our offense was good enough to win, but our defense won us this game.”

    1. Strong defense leads to victory: Alabama’s defense was the key to their 78-74 win over LSU. The Crimson Tide held the Tigers to just 39% shooting from the field and forced 13 turnovers. Their ability to disrupt LSU’s offense and create scoring opportunities off of turnovers was crucial in securing the win.
    2. Balanced scoring attack: Alabama had four players score in double figures, showcasing their depth and ability to spread the scoring load. Keon Ellis led the way with 16 points, while Jaden Shackelford added 15 points and Jahvon Quinerly and Jaden Springer each chipped in 14 points. The balanced scoring attack proved to be too much for LSU to handle.
    3. Clutch free throws seal the deal: In a tight game that came down to the wire, Alabama’s ability to knock down free throws in the final minutes proved to be the difference. The Crimson Tide shot 77% from the charity stripe, including several key free throws down the stretch to secure the win. Their composure and execution in pressure situations were impressive and bode well for their postseason aspirations.

  • Christina Hall and Josh Hall Get Into Tense Fight During ‘The Flip Off’ Premiere: ‘Shut Up Already’

Christina Hall and Josh Hall Get Into Tense Fight During ‘The Flip Off’ Premiere: ‘Shut Up Already’

Christina Haack (formerly known as Christina Hall) and Josh Hall split in July 2024 and their HGTV series The Flip Off is giving fans a front-row seat to the drama.

In a trailer for the January 29 season premiere, the now-exes were filmed during a tense car ride, where Josh, 44, was having a mostly one-sided conversation before telling his wife to “shut up.”

“This is a competition. We gotta pull out all stops. Whatever it takes to win, I’ll do it. Halls rule!” Josh said while looking over to his wife in the passenger seat. “You’re supposed to say it with me, or repeat it, or something that shows that you’re with me.”

The Christina on the Coast star, 41, stayed quiet, only looking forward as the car drove.

“Remember you’re a Hall now. Don’t get confused in this competition about what your last name is,” Josh continued as he waited for her to respond, eventually telling her, “You’re rude.”

Christina finally replied, telling him, “I don’t over talk” in a shaky voice.

The argument only grew more tense between the couple. “Yeah, the s–t you say and I’m just like, ‘I wish you’d shut up already,’” he continued. “My wife’s pissing me off already.”

Christina didn’t engage with her husband, only trying to conclude the conversation by asking, “Are we there yet?”

Josh was Christina’s third husband, following her 2021 divorce from her second ex-husband, Ant Anstead. The pair married in 2022 and were set to compete against Christina’s first husband, Tarek El Moussa, and his wife, Heather Rae El Moussa, as they flipped houses on The Flip Off.

The Flip Off was announced in May 2024, only two months before Josh filed for divorce on July 16, 2024, from Christina. She followed suit by filing her own paperwork one day later.

A source told Us Weekly on July 17, 2024, that Christina and her castmates were “moving forward” with production of The Flip Off “without Josh” after they both filed for divorce. The ex-couple’s divorce has been tumultuous, making headlines over disputes about selling her Tennessee home and financial matters.

“[She is] seeking to have me removed from a contractual agreement we entered into for the production of a new HGTV show The Flip Off,” he stated in court documents obtained by In Touch in September 2024.

Christina’s second ex-husband has seemingly replaced Josh on the show amid their divorce. Christina and Ant, 45, were spotted filming her upcoming HGTV series together in Los Angeles on November 7, 2024. The photos showed the U.K. native arriving on the set and chatting with crew members before getting down to business with Christina. In another snap, the exes appeared to be engaged in a friendly conversation, with Ant flashing a huge smile at Christina.

Christina and Ant were not always so cordial after their divorce, either. However, a source exclusively told Life & Style on October 30, 2024, that the British automotive expert’s actress girlfriend, Renée Zellweger, helped them mend their relationship, paving the way for his involvement in The Flip Off.

“She convinced Ant it’s silly to hold grudges and hated seeing him so worked up. Things are better now. She’s extended the olive branch to Christina, too, and looking forward to a drama-free holiday season,” the insider said.

Christina Hall and Josh Hall Get Into Tense Fight During ‘The Flip Off’ Premiere: ‘Shut Up Already’

The premiere of the new home renovation show ‘The Flip Off’ took a dramatic turn last night when co-hosts Christina Hall and Josh Hall got into a heated argument on live television.

The tension between the two hosts had been building throughout the episode, with Josh criticizing Christina’s design choices and Christina accusing Josh of being too controlling. But things really came to a head during a commercial break, when the cameras caught the two of them shouting at each other backstage.

“Shut up already, Josh! I’m sick of your constant nitpicking and criticism,” Christina yelled, her face red with anger.

“Oh, please. You’re the one who can’t take any constructive feedback. Your designs are a disaster waiting to happen,” Josh shot back, his voice dripping with sarcasm.

The crew members and producers scrambled to intervene and calm the situation down, but it was clear that the damage had been done. The tension between Christina and Josh was palpable as they returned to the set to finish filming the episode.

As the credits rolled, viewers were left wondering if the two hosts would be able to put aside their differences and continue working together on the show. Only time will tell if Christina and Josh can set aside their egos and work together for the sake of ‘The Flip Off’.

He continued, “Remember, you’re a Hall now. Don’t get confused in this competition about what your last name is. You’re rude.”

“I don’t over talk,” Christina finally replied to her then-husband in a low tone.

    The conversation took a turn.

“Yeah, the s— you say, and I’m just like, ‘I wish you’d shut up already,’” Josh said.

Christina sighed, to which Josh replied, “My wife’s pissing me off already.”

The HGTV star ended the hostile conversation with her then-husband by asking, “Are we there yet?”

The footage is included in the two-hour series premiere that will air on Jan. 29. The incidents seen on-camera were filmed prior to Josh filing for divorce from Christina in July 2024.

In the comment section of the video that was shared on Christina and HGTV’s official Instagram accounts, Heather chimed in on Josh’s exit from the series.

“Not everyone makes the cut—and that’s the real reality,” she commented.

In November, Christina told Entertainment Tonight that Josh had an issue with her relationship with her first husband.

“[Josh] doesn’t like our dynamic, because Tarek and I have our own dynamic, and some could call it ‘flirty,’” she said. “For me, it’s like a sibling type of thing.”

Christina and Tarek remained cordial following their explosive 2016 divorce and continued to film “Flip Or Flop” together until the series ended in 2022. The former couple share kids Taylor, 14, and Brayden, 9.

Christina told the outlet that it was “not fun” to film with Josh.

“When someone is insecure by you and doesn’t like to watch you win, that really puts a damper on everything, I feel like I was not shining as bright, to try to not make him feel emasculated. But who wants to live like that?”

Although the explosive argument between Christina and Josh seemingly concluded in the preview clip for “The Flip Off,” there was another emotional moment captured in the teaser clip.

In the scene, Christina tells Tarek that her relationship with Josh was over.

Christina told her ex-husband that their children played a role in her reason to end her marriage with Josh.

“The kids literally asked me to leave,” she said. “They told me he’s not nice to me. Why would I stick around?”

Christina’s second husband, Ant Anstead, joined “The Flip Off” following Josh’s exit. A source confirmed to Fox News Digital in November that Anstead is “filming a portion of the show” with Christina.

In August, Christina weighed in on the idea of replacing Josh with Anstead as her co-star in “The Flip Off.”

“How awesome would it be to have Ant replace Josh on The Flip Off? Ratings would go through the roof. If it happens, I need some credit. Lol,” the social media user wrote, according to People.

In December 2018, Christina married Anstead at their home in Newport Beach, California, and they welcomed son Hudson in 2019. However, the two announced that they were separating in September 2020, and Christina filed for divorce two months later.

HGTV star Christina Hall’s tense fight with estranged husband Josh was recently caught on camera, revealing the couple’s escalating conflict behind closed doors. The footage, which has since gone viral, shows the former lovebirds engaging in a heated argument, with both parties hurling insults and accusations at each other.

Fans of the popular home renovation show were shocked to see the usually composed Christina lose her cool, as she unleashed a barrage of expletives at Josh. The confrontation quickly turned physical, with Josh attempting to restrain Christina as she lashed out in anger.

Sources close to the couple have revealed that their marriage has been on the rocks for quite some time, with infidelity and trust issues at the center of their discord. Despite their best efforts to salvage their relationship, it seems that their differences have become irreconcilable.

As the video continues to circulate online, fans are left wondering what the future holds for the once-beloved couple. Will they be able to mend their broken relationship, or is this the end of the road for Christina and Josh? Stay tuned as this real-life drama unfolds before our eyes.
