  • ‘Phasmophobia’ Releases 2025 Roadmap, Including New Character Options and a Terrifying New Tool


    Phasmophobia is one game that keeps giving back to its players. Not only is it one of the most terrifying horror games you can experience with your buddies, but it just keeps getting better. Alongside its successful release on consoles, Kinetic Games has pushed out an updated 2025 roadmap for Phasmophobia, detailing plenty of new changes coming to the game to keep things feeling fresh. Don’t worry, more holiday events are coming down the line, but I think I’m most excited about the Player Character refresh.

    Alongside Plenty of Updates, ‘Phasmophobia’ Also Hits an Impressive Sales Number on Consoles

    Phasmophobia is about to become a lot spookier, according to a recent press release from Kinetic Games. Chronicle is the main seller this time around, and it’s going to completely change how players take note of the ghosts within these homes. From the press release:

    “The first major update coming to the definitive horror game is Chronicle. This will bring changes to the journal and rework how Ghost Hunters can capture evidence. The Photos tab will be replaced with a Media tab featuring three new sections. Photos, Videos, and Sound Recordings. With any photographic, audio, or visual evidence logged in the corresponding pages.”

    “The game’s media quality system is being replaced too. With a player’s first ‘capture’ of any media type labeled as ‘Unique’. These will reward lots of cash and XP at the end of a contract, while ‘duplicates’ will reward much less.”

    “Chronicle will also introduce the Sound Recorder, a brand new piece of equipment designed to record unique paranormal sounds. Players brave enough to do so will be able to listen back to their recordings in the updated journal, letting them discover helpful clues that may previously have been drowned out by terrified screams.”

    I already know exactly which one of my friends is getting the Sound Recorder. Mainly because I need to hear them scream when they finally catch something on it. Alongside Chronicle, we’ll also finally see the often-mentioned Character Overhaul in Phasmophobia. I’ve grown so used to the same crew that it’s going to be jarring for a bit. But I can’t wait to finally see some new blood join the fray.

    Plus, with Phasmophobia finally hitting consoles, it’s moved into an impressive sales number. Over 20 million copies sold on PC, and over 2 million copies sold on consoles.

    Oh Yeah, We’re Getting Some Map Updates in ‘Phasmophobia’, as Well

    Alongside the main updates, we’ll also be seeing some updates to some of our favorite Phasmophobia maps. Bleasdale Farmhouse and Grafton Farmhouse are getting major updates, along with the tease of a new, smaller map. That’s on top of even more Holiday events, like the Winter’s Jest event that terrified us this year. According to the press release:

    “Outdoorsy hunters will be pleased to know there are two map reworks on the way this year. Bleasdale Farmhouse will receive a complete overhaul. With visual enhancements and a complete redesign of the layout, including new locations for ghosts to haunt. Players will be able to explore a garden just outside the main living room. Complete with ghost rooms, as well as revamped areas to explore. Grafton Farmhouse will also receive an update later this year.”

    There’s even more Phasmophobia to come. With a player character overhaul, a new small map, and updates for the Easter, Halloween, and Holiday seasons set to arrive in 2025. Plans for 2026 are already underway too. With house map reworks, even more new maps, and Horror 2.0 in the works.

    “We’re beyond excited for the new updates and reworks coming to Phasmophobia this year,” said Daniel Knight (Dknighter), Director of Kinetic Games and Lead Developer of Phasmophobia. “Our early access period so far has given us a fantastic opportunity to listen to our players, and the big changes we’re making are a direct reflection of the feedback we’re seeing.     I Can’t Wait To Dive in for More Wild Events

    Phasmophobia is one of those games that I can’t help but keep returning to. No matter if I’m playing it in VR or non-VR mode, it’s just a fantastic way to spend some time with your friends. This roadmap makes it even more exciting. The Player Character Overhaul, combined with the new Journal, is going to change how every haunt progresses. We’ve learned how these ghosts work over the years, and it’s going to take a minute to learn their new tricks.

    I can’t deny though; I want to find out what Phasmophobia‘s Horror 2.0 is going to be all about. While we may need to wait a little longer to learn more about that feature, this new roadmap is giving me more than enough to anticipate.

  • Rose Byrne is terrifying in ‘If I Had Legs I’d Kick You’ at Sundance

    PARK CITY, Utah — What will surely go down as one the most stressful movies of the year is “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You,” which premiered Friday at the Sundance Film Festival.

    Writer-director Mary Bronstein’s absorbing psychological drama about a mother at her breaking point is two hours of mounting anxiety and nervousness. 

    For Rose Byrne’s falling-apart Linda, and for us.

    I’m sweating just thinking about it.

    Bronstein takes otherwise unremarkable domestic moments — driving with a pet hamster in the backseat, arguing with a parking attendant, dropping a pizza box — and depicts them through the eyes of a mom struggling to cope. Basically, a horror film. 

    Every step and breath, casual or frantic, is laced with dread. 

    Usually you shield your eyes when the serial killer’s broken into the house. Here, I was terrified when Linda took a walk around the block. 

    Byrne, who audiences tend to associate with comedies such as “Bridesmaids” and “Neighbors,” gives a career-best performance as Linda, the fraying parent of a young daughter who eats via feeding tube because of a disorder.

    As the pressures pile on, the actress is so unrelentingly intense you can practically feel her molecules vibrate.  

    Adding to the grind, Linda’s impatient husband is away on business, and she has to work at her therapy practice during the day and take care of her child at night. 

    When she’s not guzzling whole bottles of wine at 4 a.m. 

    The little girl’s meal routine is a demanding exercise that wakes Linda up in the middle of the night to refill a pouch. Her daughter needs to weigh at least 50 pounds inside of a week or else, a medical professional threateningly tells her, “we’ll need to reassess care.”

    Then, amid her family woes, the ceiling of her bedroom collapses, leaving a cavernous hole, and Linda and the kid are forced to stay at a dingy motel down the road.

    Bronstein’s film, darkly but colorfully lit, verges on the supernatural at times. That gorge above Linda’s head takes on a spooky magical-realism quality. Spaceship light emanates from it, as well as firefly-like beings. Without ever becoming pretentious, we get the sense that the void is also Linda’s own.

    “If I Had Legs” is not “Spy,” but the actress doesn’t totally toss aside her comedic chops either. As Linda’s thrown caution to the wind, her reactions can be hilarious. Those few laughs are big because they are a brief reprieve from the near-constant anxiety we’re feeling.

    Someone who needed to rein in the funny is Conan O’Brien, who makes his feature acting debut in the film playing Linda’s colleague and therapist she’s infatuated with. This year’s Oscars host is quite good as a cold, distant, un-empathizing jerk.

    But don’t go telling him that. Onstage after the premiere, O’Brien reviewed himself.

    “I feel like a complete fraud,” he said.

    And A$AP Rocky plays her motel neighbor, who’s both supportive and an enabler. 

    Most haunting is Danielle Macdonald (“Dumplin'”) as Caroline, Linda’s paranoid patient and, perhaps, a vision of what Linda could herself become in she doesn’t fix things.

    Bronstein’s film is a tough watch. There is archival footage of Andrea Yates, the woman who drowned her five children in a bathtub, and Yoselyn Ortega, the nanny who stabbed two New York kids. 

    And there are some grotesque moments involving the human body and animals. 

    If you can stomach that, the jitters, increased heart and outright terror are worth it for Byrne. She’s unforgettable.

  • Raleigh police chief officer wounded in shooting; ex-wife of suspect details terrifying moments


    RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) — Raleigh Police Chief Estella Patterson praised First Class Officer Max Gillick, who was wounded during a shooting Tuesday as he responded to a call in the Renaissance Park neighborhood.

    “He’s a hero. Very heroic, very courageous,” Patterson said.

    Patterson delivered remarks Friday morning at a Raleigh Police Department promotion ceremony, where she shared more details on Gillick’s actions.

    “As many of you know, Officer Gillick was shot Tuesday evening as he was performing his duties and protecting the victim who had been assaulted in a domestic situation,” said Patterson.

    As police arrived on the scene, they heard shots from inside the home. An officer called for backup and a person inside continued shooting. During the gunfire exchange, Gillick was wounded and the suspect was killed.

    Gillick underwent surgery Tuesday night at WakeMed and remains in critical condition.

    “While he is progressing well in his recovery, he is not out of the woods. He still needs, desperately needs our prayers and positive vibes,” said Patterson.

    Authorities identified the shooting suspect as 70-year-old Antonio Rodrigues, and the victim as 73-year-old John Rowe; both men died. The incident happened inside the home of Rodrigues’ ex-wife, Jill Rohner.

    “(Antonio) just came in and shot John. And so, John fell to the floor and I was on the phone with 911 and was screaming bloody murder for them to please hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry,” said Rohner in an interview with our newsgathering partners at The News & Observer.

    According to court records, Rodrigues had pleaded guilty to several counts of stalking and disclosing private images in 2021 and 2022, cases in which Rohner was the victim.

    “I have pleaded that (Rodrigues) get serious health and mental health kind of help because I suspected that he could snap at any minute. He was just constantly harassing me,” said Rohner.

    She said Rodrigues had previously been violent toward her; according to The News & Observer, a Carteret County judge granted their divorce in 2014.

    “The first place he held me down with a gun was in a home in Carteret County,” Rohner said, and she added that she believed the townhome in Raleigh felt safe.

    She said the suspect, Antonio Rodrigues, had previously been violent toward her.

    Rodrigues was on probation at the time of the shooting, with Rohner calling for victims of domestic violence to receive more protection.

    “He could have killed me. He opted not to. We were face-to-face and I was pleading with him like, ‘What are you doing? Why, please stop.’ And he said ‘You took everything from me,'” said Rohner.

    Rohner told ABC11 that she was in a relationship with Rowe and had planned on moving in with him.

    “A couple of years ago, I met this wonderful man, John Rowe, who I have recently said to people, (it) took me 67 years, but I finally got it right, found the right person, was very much in love,” said Rohner.

    This is the second high-profile shooting within a week for the Raleigh Police Department, coming days after an incident at a North Hills restaurant, in which two people, including the suspect died, and a third person was injured.

    The incidents underscore broader efforts to ensure a widespread law enforcement presence, as the department works to fill open positions.

    “A day like (the promotion ceremony), when people see advancement, the opportunity for advancement, they want to be a part of this team and so they come to the department. Our challenge moving forward is not in recruiting and retention. We want to make sure that our leaders are doing everything that they can to keep the people that we have,” said Patterson.

    A Raleigh Police Department spokesperson told ABC11 there are 51 vacancies, down from 84 vacancies at the beginning of 2024. On Saturday, Raleigh Police are holding a hiring event at the Law Enforcement Training Center, which begins at 9 a.m.

    In a shocking turn of events, a Raleigh police chief officer was wounded in a shooting incident that took place earlier today. The suspect, who has been identified as the ex-husband of the officer’s ex-wife, opened fire on the officer during a routine traffic stop.

    Nikki Glaser has been tapped to host the Golden Globes as her viral excerpt from the roast of Tom Brady continues to make the social media rounds. The Emmy nominated American comedian is currently running ‘joke prep’ with a team of about 10 writers in Missouri ahead of the award ceremony on January 5. Glaser is also a first time nominee for ‘best performance in stand-up comedy on television’ — apart from being the first solo female host in Golden Globes history.

    “It is a gig that a lot of people turn down because it’s so terrifying. I actively want things that are live and I think a lot of other performers just do not like it,” she told the Wall Street Journal earlier this week.

    Glaser has made a name for herself as a riotously sharp wit in recent years with a special knack for roasts. Videos of the 40-year-old needling football star Tom Brady for his complex love life and his one-time advocacy of crypto continue during a Netflix roast have repeatedly gone viral on social media platforms this year. 

    Hosting an award show has become a tricky prospect in recent years — with several prominent comedians reportedly turning down calls to host the Globes last year. The job eventually went to Jo Koy at the last minute but appeared to go badly wrong with a fumbled opening monologue and a rushed pace. By most accounts it was an awkward few minutes — with celebrities far from amused by his monologue and some glaring as ill-received jokes fell flat.

    Glaser however remains undaunted, telling WSJ about plans to touch upon several tricky topics during her address. The comedian expects to mine the “Wicked” press tour, the Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs sex trafficking case, US President-elect Donald Trump and more.

    The comedian has also made several appearances on Amazon Prime Video’s “Thursday Night Football” postgame show in recent weeks. Her ‘Late Hits’ segment however requires Glaser and her writers to come up with material as the game is taking place. 

    “I give her and her team a ton of credit because what they did was they took a risk by doing live stand-up comedy on a sports show. And there’s no way we could have rehearsed what our first one was going to be like. None of us knew what the reaction would be in the crowd,” said Spoon Daftary, senior coordinating producer at Prime Video’s pregame, halftime and postgame shows.
