Arrest An international counter-terrorism operation in East Africa led to the arrest of 37 suspects and the seizure of both small arms and heavy weapons.
Of those arrested, 17 were nabbed in Kenya.
Those arrested include suspected members of ISIS, al Shabaab and several foreign terrorist fighters, the Interpol said.
A statement said arrests were made across eight East African countries during a joint Interpol and AFRIPOL operation between November and December 2024 aimed at identifying and arresting suspects with links to terrorism and strengthening key border controls.
“In Kenya, police arrested 17 people including two suspected ISIS members, several foreign terrorist fighters and others involved in terrorism financing, radicalization and propaganda,” the statement said.
Kenya has been a victim of terror in the past which has left tens of people dead and many others wounded.
Last year Kenya said that terrorism and overall crime cases had fallen across the country in the recent past, thanks to collaboration between local and international security agencies.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who was acting cabinet secretary for the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, said 27 terrorist attacks have been thwarted between January 2022 and November 2024 across Kenya.
“During this period several terrorists have been neutralized. The government has also pushed for 11 successful convictions. Our success came through collaboration with international agencies,” Mudavadi told journalists in Nairobi.
“Noteworthy, our success also came through collaborations with other international agencies to thwart crime through training and equipment support,” he added.
In the Interpol operation, police in the Democratic Republic of Congo arrested four alleged members of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) and two associates.
Forces also seized and destroyed a missile and anti-tank device abandoned by suspected terrorists.
In Somalia, authorities arrested three people, including a suspected bomb maker for an Amniyaat unit of Al-Shabaab who had been planting Improvised Explosive Devices, targeting law enforcement and the military.
Another of the detained suspects was an Al Shabaab operative who is believed to have attacked several police checkpoints with hand grenades.
Law enforcement in Tanzania arrested an alleged member of ISIS Mozambique, as well as a Ugandan national who was attempting to join a terrorist group in Mozambique as a foreign terrorist fighter.
Prior to the operation, each participating country prepared an operational plan, gathering intelligence on terror-related targets, including individuals and their known locations.
Interpol and AFRIPOL consolidated and analysed this information and shared it with all participating countries, facilitating a significant exchange of criminal intelligence.
During the tactical phase of the operation, each country carried out strategic investigations and raids.
Police received on-the-ground support from INTERPOL and AFRIPOL officers, who provided coordination, logistics and real-time data analysis.
Cyril Gout, INTERPOL’s Acting Executive Director of Police Services, said East Africa’s complex landscape, marked by political instability, porous borders, and socioeconomic challenges, continues to provide an environment conducive to terrorist activity.
“As these groups seek to expand their reach beyond traditional areas of operation, it is essential that law enforcement agencies work together to stay ahead of these evolving threats. These positive results demonstrate the power of international collaboration in the fight against terrorism.”
Ambassador Jalel Chelba, Acting Executive Director of AFRIPOL, said tackling terrorism and organized crime demands a unified and forward-thinking strategy that addresses both immediate risks and the deeper vulnerabilities that enable them.
“This operation highlights the critical role of international cooperation and the exchange of intelligence in disrupting criminal networks and curbing their reach. AFRIPOL is dedicated to supporting Member States, enhancing regional partnerships, and fostering resilience to promote lasting safety and stability across Africa.”
To bolster border security, frontline officers at land, air and port border points were trained and equipped with Interpol Mobile Devices (IMDs), giving them real-time access to Interpol’s databases.
These contain personal and criminal history information in addition to details of around 135,000 foreign terrorist fighters, as well as millions of records of lost and stolen travel documents, which are a key asset for terrorist mobility.
Over the course of the five-day border security operation, more than 88,000 checks were made against Interpol databases, resulting in the detection of 15 individuals subject to notices and Diffusions related to crimes such as fraud, rape, murder, armed robbery, money laundering and crimes against children.
Overall, the reinforced border controls led to 32 arrests for a broad range of crimes.
The successful cooperation between eight countries, Interpol and AFRIPOL highlights the importance of a comprehensive approach to combating terrorism, a threat that remains a major concern for the safety and security of the region.
In a major victory against terrorism, an Interpol operation has successfully apprehended 17 terror suspects in Kenya. The operation, which involved cooperation between Interpol and Kenyan authorities, targeted individuals believed to be involved in planning and carrying out terrorist activities. The suspects, who were captured in various locations across Kenya, are currently being held for questioning and further investigation. Interpol has not released specific details about the identities of the suspects or the exact nature of the terrorist activities they were allegedly involved in.
This successful operation is a testament to the power of international cooperation in combating terrorism. Interpol’s efforts to track down and apprehend individuals who pose a threat to global security are crucial in maintaining peace and stability around the world.
The arrest of these 17 terror suspects in Kenya sends a clear message that terrorism will not be tolerated, and that those who seek to harm innocent civilians will be held accountable for their actions. The international community must continue to work together to combat terrorism and ensure the safety of people everywhere.

The mild-mannered Tyrolean Terror Jannik Sinner has been steely at the Australian Open
“I don’t want to talk, you know, so much about how I felt today,” Sinner told reporters after he won. “I was not feeling really well. I was struggling physically, but I don’t want to go into details, no? … I think it was a great match. I think that’s what we have to focus on, and some ups and downs.”

De Minaur had lost all nine previous meetings with Sinner, and that song remained the same. Sinner allowed just one break point, while feasting on six of 10 chances. He hit nearly three times as many winners as de Minaur, 27-10, and won six out of every 10 points when de Minaur hit a second serve. While game as ever, the undersized and underpowered Aussie simply had no place to hide.
Afterward, de Minaur heaped praise on Sinner and added: “After playing some great tennis on home soil and gaining so much, you feel like you just have been slapped across the face, to be honest, to finish off like that.”
Sinner’s semifinal opponent will be Ben Shelton, the diametrical opposite of de Minaur. The 22-year old American is 6-foot-4, solid of build, and blessed with great power. Shelton has beaten Sinner before (Shanghai in 2023), although the favorite won their last three meetings. Apart from a monstrous serve, Shelton has punishing groundstrokes, and a creative attacking style to go with his confidence-inducing history in Melbourne Park. He made his pro tour breakout by reaching the quarterfinals there two years ago.

Despite his mild-mannered nature off the court, Sinner transforms into a fierce competitor once he steps onto the court. His ability to stay focused and composed under pressure has been a key factor in his success at the Australian Open, where he has already defeated several higher-ranked opponents.

JOHANNESBURG – To counter the perceived threat of terror from Iran and jihadi groups, South Africa’s chief rabbi is setting up a specialist task force.
Chief Rabbi Dr. Warren Goldstein was spurred into creating the group after a bomb attack at a Jewish center in Cape Town last month. An improvised explosive device was thrown at the Samson Community Center but failed to detonate. The center is home to several South African Jewish organizations.
The “Counter-Terror Task Force” will make recommendations to protect places of worship, schools and community centers.
“South Africa’s Jewish community, like other Jewish communities globally, faces heightened risk of terror attacks,” Goldstein told Fox News Digital. “The Iranian regime is the world’s chief exponent of state-sponsored terror, and have made it their strategy to target Jewish communities worldwide. With this in mind, the findings of the task force will be applied not just in South Africa, but globally.”
GLOBAL RISE IN ANTISEMITISM LEAVES JEWISH COMMUNITY ISOLATED, RABBI SAYS WORLD AT ‘A TIPPING POINT’

He added, “In addition, Africa has over the past decade become a hub for global jihadi terror, with the threat indices dramatically increasing as groups such as al-Shabab, Boko Haram and ISIS operate throughout the continent.”
The task force comprises global authorities on terror: Admiral Mike Hewitt, former deputy director for Global Operations for the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the U.S. Defense Department, Dean Haydon, former senior national coordinator for counter-terrorism in the United Kingdom, Major General David Tsur, former commander of the counter-terrorism unit in the Israeli Police, and Andre Pienaar, co-founder of South Africa’s Directorate of Special Operations, also known as the Scorpions.

The chief rabbi added, “They will be marshalling additional resources and personnel as and when needed.”
Goldstein said the force’s immediate objective “is to secure the South African Jewish community against attacks. The broader objective is to better ensure the safety of all South Africans, and citizens of countries around the world.”
He continued, “Across Africa, especially, it is Christians far more than Jews who suffer the consequences of Jihadist terror. Each year, Jihadists murder thousands of Christians for their faith.”
South Africa Chief Rabbi Dr. Warren Goldstein. (The Office of The Chief Rabbi)
Goldstein told Fox News Digital that the South African government’s stance at the International Court of Justice, where it has accused Israel of genocide over the war in Gaza, has “stigmatized Jews not only within the country but globally.”

However, Goldstein added that the views of the government here are not necessarily the views of the people. “Against that it must be understood that the South African public generally holds moderate and pragmatic views on Israel, and levels of domestic antisemitism remain very low by Western standards.”
“There were 128 recorded antisemitic incidents in 2024 in South Africa,” Professor Karen Milner, national chair of the Jewish Board of Deputies in South Africa, told Fox News Digital. “This makes it the second-highest number of incidents since record keeping began in 1998. The highest number of incidents was recorded in 2023 (182). However, 63% of these occurred immediately following the events of October 7 (the Hamas attack in Israel).

“The early months of 2024 were impacted greatly by the wave of antisemitism that immediately followed the October 7 attacks in Israel,” Milner continued. “It is worth noting that the majority of the antisemitic incidents recorded in 2024 were verbal assaults, targeted hate mail, or antagonism, with very few incidents graduating into physical assault.”

Milner concluded, adding, “with that said, antisemitism remains much lower than other comparable countries, and South Africa remains a safe space in which Jews can identify as Jewish and practice their religion in relative security.”
Fox News Digital reached out to the South African Justice and Police Departments but did not receive a response.
In response to growing concerns over the threat of terrorism from Iran and jihadi groups in Africa, a new Task Force has been created to address and counter these fears. Led by a coalition of African nations, the Task Force aims to enhance security measures, intelligence sharing, and coordination efforts to combat the rising threat of terrorism in the region. The Task Force brings together experts in counterterrorism, law enforcement, and military operations to devise comprehensive strategies and tactics to effectively combat and neutralize threats posed by Iran and jihadi groups. With a focus on proactive and preventative measures, the Task Force is dedicated to safeguarding communities and preserving peace and stability in the region.
Through collaboration with international partners and regional organizations, the Task Force will work towards disrupting terrorist networks, dismantling their operations, and preventing further attacks. By leveraging the collective strengths and resources of participating nations, the Task Force is poised to make significant strides in countering the evolving threat landscape in Africa.
As the Task Force begins its operations, the international community stands united in support of its mission to combat terrorism and protect the safety and security of all citizens in Africa. Together, we are committed to standing against the forces of terror and ensuring a brighter and more secure future for the region.

Ryan Clark has served in a lot of roles. ESPN NFL analyst. Former LSU and Pittsburgh Steelers star safety. Super Bowl champion.
But on Wednesday, in the wake of the tragic New Year’s Day terror attack on Bourbon Street that resulted in at least 15 deaths and more than 35 injured, he was simply a concerned father.
During a Friday morning appearance on ESPN’s Get Up, Clark — a New Orleans native in town for the College Football Playoff national quarterfinal Sugar Bowl between Georgia and Notre Dame, which the Fighting Irish won 23-10 Thursday — recalled his first-hand experience in the harrowing hours immediately following the early Wednesday morning incident, and how it impacted his family.
“I think the first thing is individually we felt blessed. I’m 15 minutes away from where the tragedy happened. I was sleeping 5 minutes away. I was out in the French Quarter just an hour before that with some of Jordan’s friends that came into town to watch the game,” said Clark, whose son, Jordan, is a Notre Dame senior safety. “And I think the first thing you do is you check on all of your people. I wanted to make sure my daughter and her boyfriend had made it in. I checked on Jordan’s friends obviously, and then all of my family members that were in town or lived there who were also there for the game. And then you start to wonder if anyone from Notre Dame was involved.”
Clark then recalled that exact concern was top of mind for Irish head football coach Marcus Freeman, whose first question on a Wednesday conference call between Notre Dame officials, coaches, players and their families was, “How are our families doing?”
Clark acknowledged the victims on the terrorist attack, those who died or lost loved ones. That included former Princeton football player Tiger Bech, the older brother of TCU senior receiver and former LSU transfer Jack Bech, as well as fellow Archbishop Shaw (Marrero, La.) High alum Hubert Gauthreaux, both of whom were among the 15 killed in the attack.
“I think the other piece, the other connection – Tiger Bech, the football player from Princeton, his uncle Blaine was on the (early 2000s LSU) team with me, I know Blake, his other uncle, Jack (Bech) who played at LSU,” Clark continued. “A young man named Hubert Gauthreaux, graduated from my high school, my alma mater just three years ago, he was 21 years old. My brother’s oldest son lost a family member who was only an 18-year-old young lady. So it was all of those things you’re dealing with.”
But it was a conversation with his concerned son, Jordan, that really put everything into perspective for Clark.
“Then on Wednesday around noon, Jordan called me crying, he said, ‘Dad, I want you to go home. Mom, I want you to go home. I don’t think any of you need to be here.’ He was trying to book tickets for his friends to fly out as well because he was so scared about what was going to happen to us because he felt like we didn’t have the protection that he did,” Clark recalled. “So when it got to the end of it, I was grateful that I wasn’t someone who had to handle the loss of a family member, who had to handle the loss of someone close to me and blessed to feel that, but also sad. And understanding that an outcome, in what this football game was, whoever lost this game wasn’t going to be the biggest loser of the week. It’s the city of New Orleans, it’s the 15 families that lost family members.
“And I do want to say this, … there were first responders and officers that ran into the fire – the literal fire, the gunfire from this terrorist attack – and they didn’t care about the color of the people they were saving, they didn’t care about the ethnicity of those people, their background or their political affiliation,” Clark continued. “They ran to those people because they were human. So, to the two officers that were injured, to all the officers that responded, I just want to say ‘Thank you.’ Thank you for showing the best of us.
“New Orleans is an amazing city with amazing people, and I know they will rebound, and I hope this brings everyone together. But this was a scary situation, it was a sad situation, and it put football into perspective for me. Because more than I wanted to see Jordan win the game, I just wanted to see his face again and all of our loved ones, and thank God we got to do that.”
Former NFL player Ryan Clark recently paid an emotional tribute to the victims of the New Orleans terror attack, sharing a first-hand account of the tragic events that unfolded. In a heartfelt post on social media, Clark expressed his deep sorrow and condolences to the families affected by the senseless act of violence.Clark, who is a New Orleans native, recounted the harrowing experience of being in the city during the attack and witnessing the chaos and devastation firsthand. He praised the bravery and quick response of the police officers who worked tirelessly to protect and save lives during the crisis.
In his tribute, Clark expressed his gratitude to the law enforcement officials who risked their own safety to ensure the safety of others. He emphasized the importance of supporting and honoring the brave men and women who put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities safe.
As the city of New Orleans mourns the loss of innocent lives and grapples with the aftermath of the terror attack, Ryan Clark’s heartfelt tribute serves as a reminder of the resilience and strength of the community in the face of tragedy. His words of gratitude and appreciation for the police officers who worked tirelessly to protect their city during its darkest hour are a poignant reminder of the heroism and sacrifice that often goes unnoticed in times of crisis.

ESPN star slaps down viewer who criticized hair during New Orleans terror coverage: ‘People lost their lives’
- Laura Rutledge had been providing an update on the delayed Sugar Bowl CFP
- She was reporting live from Caesars Superdome following the terror attack
- READ MORE: Officials investigating New Year terror attack say multiple people are involved
ESPN reporter Laura Rutledge scolded a viewer after they critiqued her hair during her coverage of the delayed Sugar Bowl CFP quarterfinal following the New Orleans terror attack.
The 36-year-old broadcaster had been on the ground reporting from Caesars Superdome on New Year’s Day, which had been locked off while emergency services looked for explosives in the wake of the deadly attack which killed 15 and left at least 35 injured.
Providing an update on the hotly anticipated game between Georgia and Notre Dame, Rutledge had been explaining that the match had been postponed by 24 hours and that both teams were essentially on lockdown in their hotel.
‘No one is leaving [and] people are not going into those hotels,’ she said. ‘That is the best way of keeping everybody safe.’
One social media user, however, couldn’t help but blast Rutledge’s hair during her report.
Taking to X, they said: ‘Her hair looks horrible.’

The broadcaster, 36, had been on the ground reporting from Caesars Superdome on New Year’s Day
But Rutledge wasn’t having any of it and replied to the nasty comment.
She clapped back: ‘Yes it does. I raced to gather information and hop on TV asap so threw my hair in a bun and haven’t worried about it.
‘People lost their lives and loved ones. No one is worried about my hair including me.’
Many applauded Rutledge for her comeback, while simultaneously hitting out at the mean social media user.
‘That man is a total vicious pig!’ one said. ‘He has no concept of what is important! You did a great job Laura and looked just fine.’
‘Great response,’ another wrote. ‘Although one was unnecessary.’
‘Thank you for always doing a wonderful job!’ a third said. ‘You raise the bar for humanity.’
A fourth added: ‘Don’t worry about that idiot. Your hair looks nice. You’re doing a great job, keep up the great work.’

The broadcaster clapped back at the troll, insisting that ‘no one is worried about my hair’
The 2025 Sugar Bowl between Notre Dame and Georgia will start at 4 p.m. ET on Thursday.
The game was initially set to kick off on 8:45 p.m. ET on Wednesday night.
Allstate Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley released a statement sending thoughts and prayers to all the victims of the attack, while thanking those who have accommodated the new start time.
It read: ‘We have full faith and confidence in the governor and the mayor and all the federal, state, and local first-responders that they’ve applied to this horrific event.
‘Any time we have an event like the Sugar Bowl, public safety is paramount, and all parties involved agree that could only be achieved with a postponement.
‘Now we will move ahead to take care of the details to make the Sugar Bowl the first-class, fun, and safe event that it has been for over 90 years.’
Rich Clark, the executive director of the College Football Playoff, added: ‘On behalf of the College Football Playoff, we are devastated by this morning’s attack, and our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of those affected by this tragedy.
‘We are grateful to the leadership of the Sugar Bowl, New Orleans, the State of Louisiana and federal authorities as we work together to ensure we can provide a safe environment for everyone.
‘We are also appreciative of ESPN’s flexibility in moving the game to tomorrow afternoon.’
Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, a US citizen born and raised in Texas drove an electric vehicle from Houston to Louisiana to carry out the deadly New Year’s Day attack in New Orleans’ French Quarter which killed 15.
Federal investigators believe he prepared the IED explosives at a nearby rental property.
In a recent segment on ESPN covering the tragic events in New Orleans, one viewer decided to focus on something trivial – the anchor’s hair. However, the ESPN star did not let this insensitive comment go unnoticed.During the live broadcast, the viewer tweeted, “Can someone fix that anchor’s hair? It looks messy and unprofessional.”
In a powerful moment, the ESPN star responded on air, “I appreciate your concern for my appearance, but right now, we are focusing on the devastating loss of life in New Orleans. People have lost their lives, homes, and loved ones. Let’s keep the focus where it belongs.”
The anchor’s response not only shut down the viewer’s criticism but also reminded everyone watching of the importance of staying focused on the real issues at hand during times of tragedy.
It’s a powerful reminder that in times of crisis, our focus should be on supporting those affected and coming together as a community, rather than nitpicking trivial details.

Several Houstonians have close ties to New Orleans. Maybe nowhere is it more evident than in the restaurant business.
Several business owners are working around the clock to connect with those who need financial assistance because for some this fight is personal.
Cooking oysters is one of Jackquel Johnson and Royal Bellock’s favorite places to be.
“I really been cooking, man, my whole life, man,” Bellock said.
The co-owners of Oyster King Tiger 2 Dozen make sure every recipe is a love letter to family.
The northwest Houston staple is serving up a taste of the couple’s hometown, New Orleans. The oysters they’re making this week hold a little more meaning to them.
Through Sunday a percentage of oyster sales will benefit the victims of the Bourbon Street tragedy.
“Something to be able to give back, you know, to the city, you know, we, we’ve been in New Orleans our whole life, we love New Orleans,” Johnson said.
This is one of several restaurants stepping up to help the New Orleans community.
“When we had seen that atrocious terrorist activity that happened in New Orleans they just stepped up to the plate,” community activist Dr. Candice Matthews said.
Dr. Matthews has worked with several local restaurants on a number of fundraisers. This one is personal.
“It’s very tied, Texas and Louisiana,” Dr. Mathews said.
At Quotes on the north side, owner Kevin McCraw said he sees those ties daily, which is why he will be matching donations collected at his restaurant this week.
“We get a lot of people here that are from New Orleans. A lot of our customers are from New Orleans. A lot of our guests drive here from New Orleans,” McCraw said.
McCraw’s guests have turned into family and he will do anything for them, especially in the face of tragedy.
“This terrorist individual, he’s not Houston. He doesn’t represent Houston. We represent Houston. Let’s show them what Houston is about,” McCraw said.
There is a way for you to help from home.

New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson is supporting his community in the wake of tragedy. Williamson is donating $100,000 to the Greater New Orleans Foundation’s Tragedy Fund, according to ESPN’s Malika Andrews.
The city is still reeling from a terror attack that took place in the early morning hours of New Year’s Day when the driver of a pickup truck rammed into a crowd of people celebrating New Year’s Eve on Bourbon Street. At least 14 people were killed while roughly 35 more were injured.
With so many victims and their families enduring an unimaginable horror, Williamson wanted to help the community start to heal.
“As a father, son and someone who loves the community, this hit me hard,” Williamson told Andrews. “This isn’t just about money — but standing together and making sure no one feels alone.”
Williamson has been part of the New Orleans community since he was drafted by the Pelicans with the No. 1 overall pick in 2019. Since then, Williamson has become a two-time All-Star while averaging 24.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 190 carer games.
Williamson has spent all six years of his NBA career in the city, and he is giving back in its time of need.
Among those killed in the New Orleans attack was Tiger Bech, a 28-year-old former Princeton football player. Bech was an All-Ivy League return man, and his brother Jack was a standout receiver for TCU in 2024.
Following the attack, the College Football Playoff Quarterfinal between Notre Dame and Georgia was pushed from Wednesday night to Thursday night. The Fighting Irish won, 23-10, to advance to the semifinal.
New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson has once again shown his generosity by donating $100,000 to the victims of the recent terror attack in New Orleans. The attack, which rocked the city and left many families devastated, prompted Williamson to step up and help those in need.In a statement, Williamson expressed his heartfelt condolences to the victims and their families, and emphasized the importance of coming together as a community during difficult times. He stated, “My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this senseless act of violence. I hope that my donation can provide some relief to those who are suffering and help them rebuild their lives.”
The young basketball phenom has been known for his philanthropic efforts, consistently giving back to the community and supporting causes that are important to him. This latest donation is just another example of his commitment to making a positive impact on those around him.
As the city of New Orleans continues to heal and recover from this tragedy, Williamson’s generous contribution will undoubtedly make a difference in the lives of those affected. His actions serve as a reminder of the power of kindness and compassion in times of adversity.
