  • Universal Epic Universe theme park is 100 days away

A milestone countdown begins for Epic Universe this week. We’re 100 days away from the opening of Orlando’s first new theme park in a generation.

It’s a fine time to reboot and enroll in Epic 101, a course that reviews what we know and what we don’t know about Universal Orlando’s expansion, which Mark Woodbury, CEO of Universal Destinations & Experiences, has referred to as “the most technologically advanced park we’ve ever done.”

The park was announced at Orange County Convention Center in 2019. Universal has shared details along the way about its rides, shows and hotels, but burning questions remain.

    When and where

Epic Universe is under construction between Sand Lake Road and Universal Boulevard, just north of the convention center. That’s about 2.5 miles southeast of Universal Orlando’s existing theme parks, Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure, as well as Volcano Bay water park and Universal CityWalk. Epic is on “the other side” of Interstate 4.

Universal will run buses between its original parks and hotels and the Epic area. There will be open-air parking available near Epic for visitors only going to the new park.

The grand opening of Epic Universe is scheduled for May 22, the Thursday before Memorial Day.

    The theme team

Epic Universe will be divided into five lands. Visitors will enter through Celestial Park, which includes a coaster and a carousel. Other lands are Super Nintendo World, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic and Dark Universe, which features classic monsters such as the Creature From the Black Lagoon, the Mummy and brides of Dracula.

Alicia Stella, owner of Orlando ParkStop website, has been monitoring the park since before construction began. Some people are confused by the “five immersive worlds” push, she said, thinking that means five parks — and five tickets.

It doesn’t. The rounded gateways, which Universal calls “portals,” are the walkways from Celestial Park to the other four lands, which are all part of Epic.

“People think all of the worlds are individual theme parks because they have their own portal entrance and because they’re being advertised in individual commercials,” Stella said. “It’s like ‘Do I need a ticket for each world?’”

The portal layout, which will funnel Epic crowds into lands, concerns Tharin White, lead producer of EYNTK.info, an Orlando-based travel website.

“I don’t know what happens when you have to go through a single portal to get into Super Nintendo World, to then go into a second single portal to head into the Donkey Kong Country,” he said. “To me, that just sounds like bottleneck after bottleneck after bottleneck.”

Construction continues on Epic Universe theme park, which is scheduled to open May 22. The attraction will be a few miles southeast of the other two Universal Orlando park, near Orange County Convention Center. (@bioreconstruct)

    Big rides on way

Yes. There will be four roller coasters across Epic. Mine-Cart Madness, in the Donkey Kong Country subsection of Super Nintendo World, already has a talking point: A moment where the car appears to leap over a gap in its broken rail.

Hiccup’s Wing Gliders will fly over Isle of Berk; Curse of the Werewolf will be a coaster with spinning cars in Dark Universe; and Stardust Racers, operating in Celestial Park, will be a dual-launch racing ride.

Wizarding World won’t have a coaster, but it will feature Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry, a ride that follows the trial (and escape) of Dolores Umbridge, a cruel character from the Potterverse.

Dark Universe will have big thrill ride. Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment will boast more than a dozen animatronic figures in an adventure that’s set beneath Frankenstein Manor.

    Tick, tick, tickets

Tickets are now on sale for Epic Universe, but there are limited options so far.

You can buy multiday Universal Orlando tickets, which come with a one-day pass for Epic Universe.

Or if you are a Universal annual passholder, you can buy one-day tickets for Epic. Ticket prices vary by date, and this category is sold out for the first 17 days that Epic is open. The lowest posted price through the rest of 2025 is $122.

More Epic tickets, including one-day tickets, will be sold before the park opens, the Universal website says. That’s also true for Universal Express, the resort’s system for skipping lines. But whether they’ll be available months, day, weeks or even hours before opening isn’t known yet.

    Preview mode

When Universal announced the first phase of ticket sales last fall, it mentioned “soft opening opportunities” for passholders. No more information has been shared.

Typically, employee previews would precede those events. There are signs of that happening. Some team members are being trained on the site, a Starbucks is open inside the park, although not to the general public, and industry watchers expect vehicle test rides to start next month.

“It certainly seems like team-member previews are imminent, because they’re doing mock dinner services at some of the restaurants,” Stella said.

    Annual pass it on

Florida residents currently can purchase annual passes online that are valid for Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure for $530 with an option to add Volcano Bay for an extra $110. (The resort has an additional $100 discount on this figure for Floridians.)

Universal has not shared details about future annual passes and if they would include access to Epic Universe.

“Is it going to be an add-on, kind of like Volcano Bay?” White said. “Does every single pass skyrocket as soon as they decide to add it?”

    Tech talk

Officials and promotional materials have touted Epic as being technologically advanced. Several customer-facing bits of tech, including animatronics, robotic drones, facial recognition and ride systems have been mentioned.

“I think it runs the gamut, but I think it starts with the guest experience of what they’re going to see and how they’re going to be brought into the immersion,” said Dennis Speigel, CEO and founder of International Theme Park Services.

Super Nintendo World will include an interactive feature using a Power-Up Band wearable device to unlock additional content.

“I think technological advancement is going to be very important to the guests,” Speigel said.

    Meal motifs

Restaurants will be heavily themed within Epic Universe.  Among the eateries will be Mead Hall, a viking-driven establishment in Isle of Berk, and Das Stakehaus, which will be run by servants of vampires, the story goes, in Dark Universe. Toadstool Cafe in Super Nintendo World will lean into its mushroom theme with ingredients and decor.

And, yes, butterbeer will be sold in the Wizarding World, just as it is in the installments at Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios.

    Hot new hotels

Three hotels are planned for the Epic area. Stella Nova opened last month, and Terra Luna opens next month. They are close to the theme park, but not as close as the Grand Helios, which will have a dedicated entrance into Epic Universe, not to mention an exclusive view and a rooftop bar.

White, who stayed at Stella Nova recently, timed the bus ride to CityWalk and Universal’s other parks at 14 minutes.

“I basically compared that to going from staying at one of the hotels at the Magic Kingdom and riding over to Animal Kingdom,” he said.

    Getting there

A multimillion-dollar extension of Kirkman Road from Carrier Drive down to the Epic site, plus an elevated traffic circle with dedicated bus lanes for the resort, were designed to help with traffic woes around the populated tourist corridor.

But our experts expect roadway snarls.

“I still think Universal Boulevard is going to be like, you know, 20% busier than it has been, and it’s already pretty bad during certain days,” Stella said.

“I feel like that’s one of those things,” White said. “I mean, it just gets added on to Orlando. We just have traffic issues.”

    And the rest

Even an Epic Universe overview can be overwhelming. There are additional rides to explore, stage shows to absorb, multiple themed restaurants and their menus to experience. There are unknown details surrounding Express and early access for hotel guests.

    And what about fireworks?

“How do you put fireworks in every single promotional ad for this theme park and not announce a firework show?” Stella said. “That’s a question I have, and it’s driving me crazy.”

Epic’s debut is just 100 days away, but there will be 100,000 questions. Time — and Universal — will tell.

One more: Will it be ready?

Speigel said he’s talked with manufacturers and installers, and none have expressed doubt. That’s rare, he said. And there’s the swagger factor.

“I’ve never seen a park open with such fanfare this far in advance of that readiness and showing the pictures and providing the information that they have,” he said.

“I just think that’s a very bold statement on their part, which leads me to believe, from what I see … that they are going to be ready.”

  • Jimmy Kimmel Adds ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ Theme to Footage of Cheryl Hines at RFK Jr.’s Confirmation Hearing

“Curb Your Enthusiasm” star Cheryl Hines showed up to support her husband RFK Jr. during his confirmation hearing on Wednesday — but as the man was continually called out for lying about past statements, it started feeling a bit like an actual “Curb” episode to Jimmy Kimmel. So, he went ahead and added the theme song.

The ABC host immediately zeroed in on the hearing during his Wednesday monologue, calling out RFK Jr. for having “conveniently evolved” on issues like vaccines and abortions “since pledging allegiance to the cantaloupe-in-chief.” He also made fun of how the Health and Human Services pick tried to backpedal on his previous statements condemning those very things.

“Most of his defense today was some version of ‘I didn’t say the Moderna vaccine turned kids gay, I said it turned some of them bisexual!’” Kimmel joked.

But the host’s attention was even more drawn to Hines, who “sat quietly behind her husband as he attempted to rewrite the story of his life.” At that, Kimmel started playing clips from the hearing, in which Hines was indeed very visible behind Kennedy.

After the third clip of the man being confronted by his own past quotes that he tried to deny, the camera zoomed in on Hines and the “Curb Your Enthusiasm” song kicked in. As it played, Hines could be seen blinking rapidly and biting the inside of her cheek.

“And then there was Cheryl’s TV husband from ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm,’ Bernie Sanders,” Kimmel joked. “Who, not only did he have a line of questioning, he brought visual aids.”

For those unfamiliar, no, Sanders wasn’t actually on “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” But Larry David, who created and starred in the series — and was indeed Hines’ TV husband — has definitely played Sanders on “SNL.”

You can watch Jimmy Kimmel’s full monologue in the video, above.

The post Jimmy Kimmel Adds ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ Theme to Footage of Cheryl Hines at RFK Jr.’s Confirmation Hearing | Video appeared first on TheWrap.

Late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel recently added a hilarious twist to footage of actress Cheryl Hines at Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s confirmation hearing. The video, which shows Hines looking less than thrilled as she sits in the audience, was paired with the iconic theme song from the hit TV show “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”

The juxtaposition of Hines’ deadpan expression and the upbeat music from the show created a comical moment that had viewers laughing out loud. Kimmel’s clever editing skills turned a mundane political event into a comedy goldmine, showcasing his talent for finding humor in unexpected places.

Fans of both “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and Jimmy Kimmel were delighted by the video, with many taking to social media to praise the host for his creativity. The clip quickly went viral, with thousands of views and shares across various platforms.

It just goes to show that sometimes all it takes is a catchy theme song to turn a serious moment into something truly entertaining. Thanks to Jimmy Kimmel, Cheryl Hines’ expression at RFK Jr.’s confirmation hearing will forever be associated with Larry David’s misadventures in “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”

  • The worst James Bond theme ever, according to Elton John

Since its inception in 1962, the James Bond film franchise has featured some of cinema’s most iconic music. Each instalment contains a theme song that is an encapsulation not only of the film but of the cultural zeitgeist. Over the years, performers like Duran Duran, Paul McCartney and Wings, and Billie Eilish have dated each movie by default, without needing to allude to the year in which each film was released.

With more than two dozen movies, it’s no surprise that some of the theme songs have been better than others. In 1962, John Barry and Orchestra performed the now classic ‘James Bond Theme’. Composed by Monty Norman and arranged by Barry, it features a brassy swagger and an opening guitar riff that instantly characterises the suave action hero about to appear on screen.

Later films featured iconic vocal performances from some of the greatest musical acts of the era. However, no matter how much you love Adele or Louis Armstrong, no one will ever top Shirley Bassey, whose booming voice has echoed through cinematic history ever since she lent her unparalleled skills to the franchise in 1964. Whether you prefer the showstopping drama of ‘Goldfinger’, the mystery and sexiness of ‘Diamond Are Forever’, or, however unlikely, the ethereal romance of ‘Moonraker’, she was bested by no one.

In all those years, there have, of course, been some thudding disappointments. Sam Smith defied all odds by winning an Oscar for his mind-numbingly aimless and self-indulgent ‘Writing’s on the Wall’ from Spectre, and Jack White and Alicia Keys did themselves no favours by trying to reinvent a perfect formula with Quantum of Solace’s ‘Another Way To Die’.

One person who has a very strong opinion about all of this is Sir Elton John, who, through some glaring oversight by the Bond producers, and possibly the cosmos itself, has not yet created one of the 007 themes. In 2002, the EGOT winner said that Madonna’s ‘Die Another Day’ from that year’s film of the same name was “the worst Bond tune ever,” and he did not mince his words when explaining why.

“It hasn’t got a tune,” he said flatly. “James Bond themes are usually very camp, and this one’s different… They should have gone for somebody like Lulu and Shirley Bassey, or maybe I’m in that league?”

You could easily dismiss his putdown as sour grapes. John’s distaste for Madonna goes back decades, and based on the end of his comment, he clearly (and justifiably) felt short-changed for never having been asked to do one of the themes himself. However, he was objectively correct. With ‘Die Another Day’, Madonna opted to stay true to herself, which would have been just fine if she was releasing a single but made no sense in a Bond film. Her theme is Madonna-forward, featuring a mixture of electropop and techno with a smattering of strings to demonstrate just how poorly her musical style blended with the usual Bond fare.

As a Madonna song, ‘Die Another Day’ is serviceable, but when she utters the line “I’m gonna kill my ego”, it is clear that nothing could be further from the truth.

Elton John’s pick for the worst James Bond theme ever may surprise you! In a recent interview, the legendary singer-songwriter revealed that he believes the worst James Bond theme of all time is “Die Another Day” by Madonna. John described the song as “shocking” and “not a good tune at all,” criticizing its lack of a memorable melody and overall quality compared to other Bond themes.

While opinions on Bond themes may vary, it’s clear that Elton John is not a fan of “Die Another Day.” Do you agree with his choice for the worst James Bond theme, or do you have another pick in mind? Let us know in the comments below!

  • When Auschwitz Becomes a Theme Park

Holocaust and tourism are a strange pairing: a road trip to hell. At Auschwitz, I saw a man check his Tinder, and I watched a tour descend into a gas chamber with obvious excitement. But as survivors die—we’re coming up, this month, on the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz—and as antisemitic theories doubting the Holocaust spread again, these places survive as the last connection to the truth.

Why we tour these sites of human depravity is a subject I’ve written about before, and it’s the theme of the new movie A Real Pain. Written and directed by Jesse Eisenberg, the film is about Jewish American cousins Benji, played by Kieran Culkin, and David, played by Eisenberg, visiting Poland on a guided trip alongside a lonely divorcée, a married couple, and a Rwandan genocide survivor who has converted to Judaism. Benji and David see the sites and visit their late grandmother’s childhood home. She escaped the Holocaust, and bequeathed them the money for the trip because she wanted them to understand themselves better. It’s a tender, touching film about how trauma cascades down generations, and it’s interesting to see what is, essentially, a Holocaust film set many years after the fact.

Benji is warm and wild, while David is conventional and shy. Both are flailing. In Lublin’s Old Jewish Cemetery, Benji scolds the tour guide for using too many facts when discussing the Jews who died there. “These are real people,” he rants. “This is making the whole thing feel really cold.”

But that’s Poland. When I went in 2021, and again in 2023, I found there was an ambivalence toward Jews and, as Benji also notices in the film, an awful emotional deadness.

Auschwitz, the infamous Nazi concentration camp where over a million people were systematically murdered during the Holocaust, is a place of unimaginable tragedy and horror. It is a solemn reminder of the darkest chapter in human history, a place where the atrocities committed by the Nazis must never be forgotten or trivialized.

However, in recent years, there has been a disturbing trend of Auschwitz being treated as a tourist attraction or a theme park. Visitors flock to the site, taking selfies and posing for photos in front of the infamous “Arbeit Macht Frei” sign, seemingly more interested in ticking off a box on their travel itinerary than paying their respects to the victims of the Holocaust.

The commercialization of Auschwitz is a deeply troubling development, turning a place of profound sorrow and remembrance into a place of entertainment and consumerism. Tours are marketed as “educational experiences” or “historical adventures,” with little regard for the dignity and solemnity that should be afforded to such a sacred site.

When Auschwitz becomes a theme park, it diminishes the memory of the millions of people who perished there. It cheapens their suffering and devalues the importance of remembering the Holocaust. It is a stark reminder of the dangers of commodifying tragedy and turning it into a spectacle for profit.

We must remember Auschwitz not as a theme park, but as a place of profound sadness and reflection. We must honor the memory of the victims and ensure that their stories are never forgotten. Auschwitz should never be reduced to a mere tourist attraction – it is a somber reminder of the ultimate consequences of hatred and intolerance, and must be treated with the respect and reverence it deserves.
