Tom Thibodeau wants Josh Hart to ‘think’ before calling out Knicks mates
PHILADELPHIA — Tom Thibodeau wants Josh Hart to consider his words.
In the wake of Hart twice calling for his team to drop “egos” and “individual agendas” after recent losses, the coach said he was unaware of the comments but urged his player to study film before making such assessments.
“I really don’t read what you guys write. But there’s a lot of challenges throughout the course of the season, and just stay focused on the daily improvement. Sometimes there’s going to be some frustration,” Thibodeau said before the Knicks’ 125-119 overtime win over the 76ers on Wednesday night.

And sometimes they may say things, we all may say things that we wish we had not said until you watch the film the next day. And then there’s usually a pretty good reason why something occurred. So before you say something, you probably should think.”
Hart did not single out any teammates and seemed purposefully vague following Monday’s defeat to the Pistons.
“We’ll talk about it in the locker room and figure it out in terms of stuff,” he said before defaulting to the cliché “energy and execution.”
Hart was more positive after Wednesday’s win, where he collected a triple-double with 17 rebounds, 12 assists and 10 points.

The Knicks have a few Philadelphia Eagles supporters — Karl-Anthony Towns, Jalen Brunson and Miles McBride — not to mention others on the coaching staff and front office.
With the city rallying behind the team with its usual Eagles fever, Towns wore an Eagles shirt on the bench during the Knicks’ win on Wednesday.
It drew some social media backlash but Brunson, who often wears Eagles gear, said, “I’m proud of him.”
After halftime, Towns put a white Knicks jacket over the Eagles shirt. He later explained he had armpit sweat stains that were visible on the sweatshirt, prompting him to cover up the shirt.
One reported Knicks trade target is off the board.
Nick Richards, the 27-year-old center, was dealt Wednesday from the Hornets to the Suns for Josh Okogie and three second-round picks.
Richards, a former Kentucky Wildcat, was linked to the Knicks in the offseason by SNY after news that Mitchell Robinson would miss extended time.
Robinson still hasn’t played this season while recovering from a second ankle surgery and the Knicks, according to sources, are exploring options in the trade market as they await his return.
Robinson hasn’t started sprinting yet but Thibodeau said he expects the center to return to practice this month.
As The Post reported, the Knicks are shopping backup center Jericho Sims.
Tom Thibodeau, head coach of the New York Knicks, has some words of advice for guard Josh Hart. In a recent interview, Thibodeau expressed his desire for Hart to “think” before calling out his teammates.Hart, known for his fiery personality and willingness to speak his mind, recently made some comments about the Knicks’ lackluster performance in a game. While Thibodeau appreciates Hart’s passion and desire to win, he believes that it is important for players to choose their words carefully and consider the impact their comments may have on team chemistry.
Thibodeau emphasized the importance of communication within the team and the need for players to support each other, even in tough times. He wants Hart to understand the power of his words and how they can either inspire or divide the team.
As the Knicks continue to strive for success this season, Thibodeau hopes that Hart will take his advice to heart and approach any future criticisms with a more thoughtful and constructive mindset. Ultimately, Thibodeau believes that by fostering a positive and united team culture, the Knicks can achieve their goals and make a strong push in the playoffs.

Karl-Anthony Towns was coached by Tom Thibodeau for 2 ¹/₂ seasons early in his NBA career in Minnesota, and they didn’t always see eye-to-eye over the young big man’s development.
Even before they were reunited with the Knicks, Towns had said whatever beef there was between them already had been “squashed” and was “done years ago.”
The 29-year-old Towns said following Wednesday’s win over the Jazz that Thibodeau is “a different man” now and more mellow than he was a decade ago with the Timberwolves, before adding, “I like this version going into 2025.”
Karl-Anthony Towns slaps hands with Tom Thibodeau as he returns to the bench during a Knicks game earlier this season. Charles Wenzelberg / New York Post “You’ve seen him smile. I’ll keep it at that,” Towns said after registering 31 points and 21 rebounds in the Knicks’ ninth straight win ahead of Friday’s game in Oklahoma City. “I think that we all in life, we grow. I’ve grown since the time when we were together in Minnesota. He’s grown. I think that we’re just, in this game of life, we’re just finding ourselves and getting better all the time.”
Towns was named Player of the Month in the Eastern Conference for December after averaging 23.2 points and 14.6 rebounds while shooting 56.6 percent in 13 games. OKC’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (33.3 ppg) won the award in the West.
Towns is the first Knick since Patrick Ewing (1989-90) to record multiple 30-plus point, 20-plus rebound games in the same season.
Jalen Brunson (right calf tightness) and Miles McBride (left hamstring tightness) have been listed as questionable after sitting out Wednesday’s game.
Pacome Dadiet and Ariel Hukporti were assigned to G-League Westchester, but rookie Tyler Kolek was not, in case he’s needed to play.
In the first returns for All-Star voting, Towns ranks third in the frontcourt in the Eastern Conference behind Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jayson Tatum, which would put him on track to start the Feb. 16 showcase event at Chase Center in San Francisco.
Brunson ranks fourth among guards in the East, behind LaMelo Ball, Donovan Mitchell and Damian Lillard.
Towns on Kolek playing 40 minutes in a G-League game Wednesday and then 12 minutes off the bench for the Knicks later that night: “Yeah, I was very much aware. He played a lot of minutes today. He deserves a break. That goes back to AAU. … I’ve done that, but I never had a doubleheader in a single day in the NBA. So shout-out to him.”
In a recent interview, Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns had high praise for his former coach Tom Thibodeau, who is now leading the New York Knicks. Towns described Thibodeau as “a different man” with the Knicks, emphasizing the positive changes he has seen in his coaching style and approach.Towns credited Thibodeau for his adaptability and willingness to evolve as a coach, noting that he has shown more patience and understanding with his players in New York. The All-Star center also commended Thibodeau for fostering a strong team culture and creating a supportive environment for his players to thrive.
With the Knicks currently exceeding expectations and competing for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, Towns believes that Thibodeau’s leadership has been a key factor in their success. He expressed confidence that Thibodeau’s coaching acumen and dedication to his players will continue to drive the Knicks towards further achievements in the future.
As Thibodeau continues to make a positive impact in New York, it’s clear that his former players like Towns have nothing but respect and admiration for the growth and development they have witnessed in their former coach. The Knicks are undoubtedly benefiting from Thibodeau’s new approach, and it’s exciting to see how far he can take them in the years to come.

Tom Thibodeau Explains New York Knicks Success With OG Anunoby
It’s been a year since OG Anunoby debuted for the New York Knicks, and the team has found a lot of success when he is on the floor. The Knicks have played 56 games with Anunoby over the past two seasons (not including playoffs), and the team is 43-13 when he is on the floor.
Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau explains why Anunoby is so valuable.
“When OG came in, he basically came in and he got a month and then he was out. So there were a lot of factors that went into it,” Thibodeau said h/t Posting and Toasting. “He obviously contributed a lot and made us different, but then we had Mitch [Mitchell Robinson] go out and Isaiah [Hartenstein] stepped in. So there were a lot of factors. Donte [DiVincenzo] stepped into a role. Josh [Hart] stepped into a role.
“So there were a lot of things that happened simultaneously,” he continued.
Even though the Knicks can point to Anunoby as a major difference-maker on both ends of the floor, Thibodeau is divvying the credit for the team’s success to other people.
“I would say it’s also a byproduct of those other guys, too. Them working together,” Thibodeau said.
“It’s a lot of things, and I think that’s the biggest thing. Their willingness to sacrifice for each other for the betterment of the team is what makes them unique and good as a team. It’s important to recognize that.”
Anunoby has appeared to fit like a glove for the Knicks, and it is only going to get better as the team develops more chemistry amongst each other.
Anunoby and the Knicks will return to the court tonight as they take on the Utah Jazz at home. Tipoff from Madison Square Garden is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.
Tom Thibodeau, head coach of the New York Knicks, has been instrumental in the team’s success this season. One player who has stood out in particular is OG Anunoby, who has been a key contributor on both ends of the court.Thibodeau recently explained how Anunoby has played a crucial role in the Knicks’ success, citing his versatility and defensive prowess as key factors. Anunoby’s ability to guard multiple positions and knock down shots from beyond the arc has been a huge asset for the team.
Thibodeau also praised Anunoby’s work ethic and dedication to improving his game, noting that his commitment to defense and team-first mentality has set him apart from other players.
As the Knicks continue to climb the standings in the Eastern Conference, Anunoby’s contributions will be vital to their success. With Thibodeau at the helm and Anunoby leading the way, the future looks bright for the Knicks.
