  • Naomi Watts Thinks David Bowie Was Onto Something

Naomi Watts remembers being told that by the time she turned 40, her acting career would be finished.

Now 56, she is fresh off a Golden Globe nomination for her performance as Babe Paley in “Feud: Capote vs. the Swans.” In March, she’ll star in the movie “The Friend,” based on the National Book Award-winning novel by Sigrid Nunez. And her first book, “Dare I Say It,” out Tuesday, delves into her experience being told at 36 that she was going into early menopause, and navigating that.

“It was shocking to me that half the population was told to zip it through an inevitable time of life,” Watts said of the stigma and silence surrounding perimenopause and menopause. She eventually threw herself into the conversation “lock, stock and barrel,” explaining, “I got sick of holding the secret, which I did for a long time.”

In a video call from Los Angeles, during that brief moment between the glamour of the Golden Globes and the devastation of the fires, Watts spoke about her love of pickleball, her admiration for David Bowie, and her conviction that peppermint tea and milk do not mix.

These are edited excerpts from the conversation.

I’m obsessed with pickleball. Everyone seems to think that if you say you love pickleball you’re really leaning into the old age thing, but I’ve seen people in their 20s in New York getting fired up about it.

Over the Christmas break I played a ton of cards and Bananagrams. I also play this game called Snatch, which is like an aggressive version of Bananagrams. I get pretty competitive, but only when I’m playing games. I think that’s from having a big brother and competing to win. I’m also on a Wordle chain, and whoever wins the day before gets to choose the word. I do that every single day and I’ve only missed a few here and there since we started. My stats are very impressive.

I just watched this Jacques Audiard film and loved it. It’s so innovative and wild, with so many ideas and visuals going on at once. I’d seen his older film “Rust and Bone” with Marion Cotillard, which I also loved. All of the actors in “Emilia Pérez” are just fantastic, and Zoe Saldaña got recognized at the Globes the other night. It’s just a fantastic piece of filmmaking.

I drink it all day. I love builder’s tea, strong black tea like PG Tips. It’s got to be made right, though. I have to educate the Americans about how to make it. It has to be drunk with milk. When you order tea in a restaurant or on a plane and they bring you the hot water and the bag together, it’s all wrong. It’s not going to work. You pour the hot water over the bag. Then sometimes when you order tea with milk, they get confused and they bring you a peppermint tea with milk, and I’m like, This is poison!

I love everything about Paris. I love its romance, I love the walking, I love the restaurants. I like to stay at a place called Le Pavillon de la Reine. It’s a boutique hotel with a fireplace, so it’s lovely in winter.

One of my favorite things is to eat at home with friends and have a great meal and great conversation. I tend to do roasts, so a lot of roast chicken and veggies. My mom is a good cook, so I learned a lot from her. She’s not a recipe person, she’s a trial-and-error person — you have to be practiced at that. I didn’t learn to become a good cook until I had kids.

I have horribly cracked feet in these dry winter months so I use lots of Eucerin Intensive Repair lotion to moisturize my skin. I put lotion on at night before bed, and it really helps.

I’ve had dogs all my life, and I don’t understand people that don’t love dogs. I barely understand cat people, and I always root for dogs. I like cats; I’m just allergic to them. If you have a cat, though, you better have a dog, too, because at least they’re nice to you.

I’m a big fan of her work as an activist and politician. What she’s doing is wonderful. I’m impressed by how she handles everything with such grace despite the fact that she’s always under attack, for all the wrong reasons. She’s working on fighting against L.G.B.T.Q. discrimination, and I think that’s super important.

The first album I ever bought was “Hunky Dory,” and all those songs — every single one — is amazing. “Changes” is the biggest and best in my nostalgic brain. It’s so interesting to think of what he’d be doing now. I wish he was still around. I really do. When you see those little clips and interviews of him way back when, he just knew so much. He was onto something.

Naomi Watts Thinks David Bowie Was Onto Something

In a recent interview, actress Naomi Watts shared her admiration for the late music icon David Bowie and his ability to constantly reinvent himself. Watts expressed her belief that Bowie was ahead of his time and always had a unique perspective on creativity and self-expression.

“David Bowie was a true visionary and artist,” Watts said. “He was never afraid to take risks and push boundaries, which is something I really admire and try to incorporate into my own work.”

Watts went on to say that Bowie’s fearless approach to his music and style inspired her to always stay true to herself and not be afraid to try new things. She also credited Bowie with helping her to embrace her own creativity and individuality.

“I think David Bowie was onto something when it came to pushing the limits of art and self-expression,” Watts said. “He showed us that it’s okay to be different and to embrace our uniqueness.”

As a fan of both Bowie and Watts, it’s clear that the actress has a deep appreciation for the late music legend and his impact on the world of entertainment. It’s inspiring to see how his legacy continues to influence and inspire artists like Naomi Watts to this day.

  • Ben Roethlisberger Explains What He Thinks Steelers Should Do At Quarterback

The Pittsburgh Steelers have one quarterback under contract for 2025: the recently signed Skylar Thompson. Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, and Kyle Allen are all set to be free agents, and the future of the position in Pittsburgh is up in the air. Former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger outlined what he would do to try and solve Pittsburgh’s quarterback conundrum on the latest episode of his Footbahlin podcast.

“I think another thing that needs to be bounced around at the quarterback position is, do you give Russ, I would go to Russ and be like, hey, are you willing to take $20-25 million for a year or two? If he says yes, then I would bring him back. If he says no, then I would go to Justin. Not let Justin know what I asked Russ, but ask would you be willing to take $15-20 [million] for a year or two?”

Roethlisberger views both Wilson and Fields as bridge quarterbacks and would look to a veteran like Sam Darnold if neither Wilson nor Fields took that contract.

“While you’re bridging and trying to find, while you’re still actively looking for a rookie quarterback or a young quarterback who would be your guy. If both those guys say no, I would try and find a way. Is there another guy available? A name that might need to get thrown around is Sam Darnold now.”

Roethlisberger also discussed the possibility of drafting a quarterback this year but said the Steelers would have to be okay with “taking some lumps for a couple of years” if that’s the route they take this year.

While Darnold struggled in his last two starts, it’s still likely that he’ll command a higher payout than both Wilson and Fields. If neither Wilson nor Fields re-sign, Pittsburgh dipping its toes back into the veteran quarterback market feels more likely than drafting a quarterback to start in 2025 since it likely won’t be able to draft a starting-caliber player at that spot in a weak quarterback class.

Fields probably has a little more upside than Wilson just because he’s younger. He played the best football of his career in the six games he started for the Steelers this year. If Pittsburgh thinks they can get more out of it, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to commit to him as the starter, at least as a bridge guy, while they assess the position long-term.

Signing Wilson on a shorter contract makes sense, but he might also want a three—or four-year deal to provide some stability. Given the way he played down the stretch, barring the playoff loss, the Steelers might not want to give him the money or tenure he may be looking for.

There are several avenues for how their quarterback search can play out, but the 2024 season was a failure, given that the team is back to square one regarding finding their future at quarterback. There wasn’t enough out of Fields or Wilson to definitively cement them as the guy going forward, and now the Steelers find themselves in the familiar position of needing to upgrade at quarterback but having no clear path to do so.

Ben Roethlisberger, the longtime quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers, recently shared his thoughts on what he believes the team should do at the quarterback position moving forward.

In an interview with ESPN, Roethlisberger emphasized the importance of finding a successor to him as the starting quarterback. He acknowledged that he is nearing the end of his career and believes that the team needs to start thinking about the future.

Roethlisberger expressed confidence in the current backup quarterbacks on the roster, Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins, but also mentioned that the team may need to look outside the organization for a long-term solution.

“I think it’s important for the Steelers to start grooming a young quarterback to take over when I eventually retire,” Roethlisberger said. “We have some talented guys on the roster, but it’s always good to have a plan in place for the future.”

Roethlisberger’s comments come as the Steelers face uncertainty at the quarterback position for the first time in nearly two decades. As the team prepares for the upcoming season, all eyes will be on how they address the quarterback situation and whether they will heed Roethlisberger’s advice.

  • Browns NFL draft: Shannon Sharpe shares what Deion thinks about Shedeur Sanders in Cleveland

“We coming!” The now famous line from Colorado Buffalos HC Deion Sanders has been true at the college level but the question remains whether it will continue in the NFL. The elder Sanders has been talking with the Dallas Cowboys about their head coaching position and was rumored to be interested in the Las Vegas Raiders job as well.

Outside of being a head coach, Deion has another important job: Father of one of the two top quarterback prospects that the Cleveland Browns could have interest in this year’s NFL draft, Shedeur Sanders.

There has been scuttle that Deion could impact where his son is drafted, ala Eli Manning’s father. Whether it is the Tennessee Titans, Browns or another team that either plays in the cold weather or isn’t in a big-name city, organizations will want clarity about what they are dealing with if they draft Sanders.

A good father wants what is best for their kid but Deion has a unique position, and potentially leverage, to actually have some control or influence for Shedeur.

According to Deion’s friend Shannon Sharpe, the elder Sanders is not going to allow Shedeur to come to Cleveland:

Obviously, Sharpe is not speaking from direct knowledge or is not saying it as if he is. He doesn’t “think” Deion will allow it while Chad Ochocinco agrees and references the Manning situation way back in 2004.

First and foremost, the Browns need to evaluate the talent of the draft class before it matters what Deion might want. Then, if Cleveland GM Andrew Berry and HC Kevin Stefanski, who is running the QB search, decide Sanders is the right fit, the Titans have to pass on him. Finally, the Browns would then have to make a decision based on what they have heard, either directly or indirectly from Shedeur’s camp, on whether to select the Colorado QB.

Do you think Deion’s opinion on where Shedeur plays (or Shedeur’s desired location) should influence the Browns (or Titans) decision in the upcoming NFL draft?

The Cleveland Browns are gearing up for the NFL draft and speculation is running rampant about who they will select with their first-round pick. One player who has caught the eye of NFL legend Deion Sanders is Shedeur Sanders, son of the Hall of Famer himself.

In a recent interview with Shannon Sharpe, Deion shared his thoughts on the possibility of Shedeur landing in Cleveland and what he believes the young quarterback could bring to the Browns.

According to Deion, Shedeur has all the tools to succeed in the NFL and he believes that Cleveland would be the perfect landing spot for him. With his strong arm, quick decision-making skills, and natural athleticism, Deion sees Shedeur as a potential franchise quarterback for the Browns.

While nothing is set in stone until draft day, it’s clear that Deion has high hopes for his son’s future in the NFL and believes that Cleveland could be the ideal place for him to start his career.

As the draft approaches, all eyes will be on the Browns and whether or not they will take a chance on Shedeur Sanders. Only time will tell if Deion’s prediction will come true, but one thing is for sure – the NFL draft is always full of surprises. Stay tuned for more updates as the draft draws near.

  • Islam Makhachev thinks Khabib Nurmagomedov prevented him from knocking Dustin Poirier out

Islam Makhachev Wanted to Beat Dustin Poirier Standing

In a new interview with CBS Sports’ Shakiel Mahjouri, Islam Makhachev revealed that Khabib Nurmagomedov’s cornering prevented him from stopping Dustin Poirier via strikes.

“If he let me strike more in that last fight, I can knock him out, knock out Dustin,” Makhachev said. “I go like one-two, one-two-three, and then, ‘Take him down, take him down,’ but he choose the easy way, you know, because the weakness from Dustin everybody know, his wrestling. But the last fight he defend very well. That’s why I use my striking more.”

It’ll be interesting to see if Makhachev utilizes his striking again for his next title defense. He will be going one-on-one with Arman Tsarukyan in a rematch to headline UFC 311 on January 18th. The first encounter between Makhachev and Tsarukyan took place back in 2019 and it was a grappler’s delight. Makhachev won the competitive bout via unanimous decision.

If Makhachev emerges victorious over Tsarukyan a second time, he’ll secure his fourth successful UFC lightweight title defense. That would set a new record for the most successful UFC title defenses at 155 pounds.

Islam Makhachev recently made headlines when he expressed his belief that his teammate and mentor, Khabib Nurmagomedov, prevented him from knocking out Dustin Poirier in their recent fight. Makhachev, who is often compared to Nurmagomedov due to their similar fighting styles and backgrounds, felt frustrated by Nurmagomedov’s instructions during the fight.

In a post-fight interview, Makhachev claimed that he had Poirier hurt and was ready to finish him, but Nurmagomedov advised him to focus on controlling the fight and not take unnecessary risks. While Makhachev ultimately won the fight by unanimous decision, he couldn’t help but feel like he missed an opportunity to secure a more definitive victory.

Despite his frustration, Makhachev acknowledged the wisdom of Nurmagomedov’s advice and expressed gratitude for his guidance throughout the fight. As one of the rising stars in the lightweight division, Makhachev remains focused on his goal of becoming a champion and is determined to continue learning and improving with the help of his mentor.

It remains to be seen how this dynamic will play out in future fights for Makhachev, but one thing is for sure: his relationship with Nurmagomedov will continue to be a key factor in his success in the Octagon.

  • Fittipaldo Thinks Tomlin Handling Pickens Differently Behind Closed Doors

Fittipaldo Thinks Tomlin Handling Pickens Differently Behind Closed Doors

The Pittsburgh Steelers are in a rut. In a few ways, they’re currently heading into the postseason with a myriad of ugly storylines. First, there’s the fact that they’ve lost three straight and their control over the AFC North. Both the offense and defense have had their issues as well. However, one notable storyline that’s presenting itself this week revolves around receiver George Pickens.

That type of thing is something we’ve heard a lot this year. Pickens is putting together another solid year and remains the lifeline of the Steelers offense. There are always the good things that Pickens does on the field. Likewise, the headlines he creates off of it are just as loud.

Most recently, Pickens is under-fire for not running a route during the Steelers’ Christmas Day loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, which ended up leading to a red zone interception. Things got more tense, and much more confusing, when Pickens abruptly ended his media time early this week after being asked about the play. It was a confusing situation overall, and admittedly wasn’t the best look for the star receiver.

However, moments like that in front of the media are the only things the world gets to see. There are things that happen, and conversations that happen behind closed doors that sometimes never come to light. The Pittsburgh Post Gazette’s Ray Fittipaldo thinks things are happening much differently in the building. He shared these thoughts on 93.7 The Fan on Friday.

“He [Mike Tomlin] doesn’t tell us the truth all the time,” Fittipaldo said of the situation regarding George Pickens. “And I think this is definitely a situation where he’s not telling us the truth…Are there communication issues? Yeah. But I think things are being handled behind closed doors in a much different way than they’re being handled before the media.”

It’s possible that Fittipaldo is right. Mike Tomlin’s made his legacy by being able to connect with his players on a level that most coaches can’t reach. He’s no stranger to star players who find themselves in the headlines. Coaching a player like Pickens isn’t anything new to Tomlin. It would be reasonable to assume Tomlin has handled all of this with Pickens and Wilson differently than the media has seen.

With that said, things do need to improve on Saturday night. A potential loss on Saturday, especially one full of frustration from Pickens only makes things more hectic with the media. This hasn’t been a peaceful season for Pickens, but he has a chance to end the regular season on a high note on Saturday.

In a recent interview with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Steelers beat writer Joe Rutter shared his thoughts on head coach Mike Tomlin’s handling of star wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster. According to Rutter, Tomlin has been taking a different approach with Smith-Schuster behind closed doors.

Rutter explained that Tomlin has been giving Smith-Schuster more one-on-one attention and working closely with him to address any issues or concerns. This personalized approach is in stark contrast to how Tomlin has handled other players in the past, leading many to speculate that Smith-Schuster’s status as a pending free agent may be a factor.

While Rutter did not go into specifics about what exactly Tomlin is doing differently with Smith-Schuster, he did suggest that the coach is taking a more hands-on approach in an effort to keep the talented receiver happy and motivated.

It remains to be seen how this behind-the-scenes approach will impact Smith-Schuster’s performance on the field, but one thing is for certain – Tomlin is pulling out all the stops to ensure that his star receiver is in top form for the upcoming season. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

  • Andy Roddick hears WTA stat which he thinks is ‘shocking for women’s tennis’

Andy Roddick hears WTA stat which he thinks is ‘shocking for women’s tennis’

Another thrilling WTA Tour season has been and gone, with the battle between Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek stealing the headlines.

Sabalenka overtook Swiatek as number one in October, with the Pole having occupied top spot for 50 weeks.

The Belarusian won the Australian Open and US Open, with Swiatek triumphing at the French Open as Barbora Krejcikova won Wimbledon.

Coco Gauff meanwhile recovered from her struggles to win the WTA Finals, with the American now third in the rankings.

It is, however, another young star in Mirra Andreeva that has just caught the eye of major champion Andy Roddick.

The WTA stat Andy thinks is ‘shocking for women’s tennis’

The 17-year-old has risen to 16th place on the WTA Tour, but her progression has caused concern for Roddick.

“Her ability, her variety, her ability to switch directions,” he said on the Served with Andy Roddick podcast.

“Even hiring Conchita Martinez as a coach and thinking where do I source wisdom. Those are very intelligent progressions on and off the court in 2024.

“What does she do in 2025? More of it. Let the progression take hold. It is simultaneously exciting and also the pragmatist in me is going, do the same thing for the next three months.

“And after that the next three months. It might not go perfectly but I think this is someone who is going to be holding a big trophy at some point.”

Jon Wertheim then commented: “Do you want to know a crazy stat? She is the only teenager in the top 100 I believe.”

Roddick responded: “That is shocking for women’s tennis too,” with Wertheim continuing: “When Monica Seles won eight majors as a teenager, Steffi [Graf] won the golden slam as a teenager. She is 17 so that means that she has nine more majors left before she turns 20.

“One thing that impresses me here is that we see young players – it’s LeBron [James], it’s Rafa [Nadal], it’s Jennifer Capriati and there’s physical maturity.

“I’m not sure that’s the case here, it’s more emotional maturity.  She plays a really tactical, strategic game.”

What did ‘incredible’ Mirra Andreeva achieve in 2024?

Andreeva looks set for big things in 2025, with the 17-year-old having enjoyed a superb year on the court.

Daria Kasatkina called Andreeva ‘incredible’ after beating her in the Ningbo Open final, with the latter having picked up several impressive wins.

The Russian teenager beat Czech duo Barbora Krejcikova and Karolina Muchova before falling to Kasatkina, who is now ranked ninth in the world.

Former professional tennis player Andy Roddick recently made headlines after expressing his surprise at a WTA stat that he found to be “shocking for women’s tennis.”

During a recent interview, Roddick was asked about his thoughts on the current state of women’s tennis and the level of competition among female players. When presented with a statistic detailing the number of Grand Slam titles won by women players over the past decade, Roddick was taken aback.

“I was genuinely shocked when I heard that stat,” Roddick said. “To think that women players have won nearly half of the Grand Slam titles in the past ten years is truly remarkable. It speaks volumes about the talent and dedication of the female athletes competing in the sport.”

Roddick went on to praise the achievements of players such as Serena Williams, Naomi Osaka, and Ashleigh Barty, highlighting their impact on the game and their ability to inspire the next generation of female tennis players.

  • Luzardo discusses trade to Phillies, thinks he’s past back injury – NBC Sports Philadelphia

Luzardo discusses trade to Phillies, thinks he’s past back injury – NBC Sports Philadelphia

Jesus Luzardo was getting ready for a relaxing Sunday morning on the lake eight days ago when he received a call from the Marlins telling him he had been traded to the Phillies.

He didn’t expect the news that morning but was aware he could be on the move this offseason because of an increasing salary and the Marlins’ perpetual rebuild.

“I was getting ready to go fish, I actually got the call right before I got out on the boat,” Luzardo said Monday afternoon via Zoom.

“I could kind of see the writing on the wall but it’s always a big change, your life’s turned upside down. But definitely for a positive impact, I would say. I’m looking forward to it.”

Luzardo fills out the Phillies’ rotation and if he’s close to the pitcher he was in 2022 and 2023, they should boast baseball’s best and deepest starting staff with himself, Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola, Cristopher Sanchez and Ranger Suarez. In 50 starts over those two seasons, Luzardo pitched to a 3.48 ERA with 328 strikeouts in 279 innings. His opponents hit .223.

A lefty with his velocity, secondary pitches and results could pitch as a No. 2 in most rotations. If he can stay healthy …

That is the big if, and the reason why the Luzardo trade cost the Phillies talented 19-year-old infielder Starlyn Caba but not one of their top three prospects (Andrew Painter, Aidan Miller, Justin Crawford). Luzardo missed two weeks last season with elbow tightness and did not pitch after June 16 because of a stress reaction in his lower back.

He is optimistic, though, about being past the back injury based on how he has felt this offseason and what he’s heard from doctors.

“I feel 100%, I’ve felt 100% the whole offseason,” he said. “Last year, the back was really the root of the issue and the problem. Now that we’ve got that figured out, thankfully everything is back to normal.

“The stress reaction was just basically a vertebra on the spine getting bothered by constant stress, constant rotation or the lack of rotation. At one point, it just gets really irritated. It bothered me doing a lot of things — tying my shoes, bending over, brushing my teeth, rotating on the mound. It definitely affected me in a lot of different ways and it was frustrating trying to maneuver that and still get out there and pitch every five days. It just got to a point where I couldn’t do it anymore.

“I took time off and the doctors all said the same thing: These things actually heal really well, and once it happens once, it usually doesn’t happen again. It’s more of just letting it calm down, letting it heal itself.”

Luzardo is 27 years old and isn’t set for free agency until after the 2026 season. He projects to earn $6 million through arbitration this offseason and might cost a total of $17-18M over the next two. Beyond the rotation boost he should provide the Phillies, that’s significant and necessary financial value compared to what starting pitchers are receiving in free agency.

The Red Sox last week signed Patrick Sandoval to a two-year, $18.25M contract and he won’t even pitch in the first half this season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in June. Frankie Montas, a No. 4/5 starter, signed for $34M over two years with the Mets. Matthew Boyd, another back-end starter who hasn’t pitched a full season in five years, signed for $29M over two years with the Cubs.

Luzardo is younger than them all with a substantially higher ceiling and will likely earn less than them all in 2025 and 2026, which matters for a Phillies team already over the fourth and final luxury tax threshold of $301 million. Every dollar matters this offseason, as outlined here. The penalties are harsh. The Phillies are essentially paying double for every player they add.

“We asked about Luzardo a couple times during the winter just to check in, and then it happened very quickly last week,” president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said just before Christmas.

“We’ve liked him for a few years. He was down for a while last year, we did very thorough medicals and felt comfortable with where he is.”

So does Luzardo, who got started a bit earlier than usual this offseason to ease his transition into 2025. While he can’t guarantee the back injury won’t return, he’s put it out of his mind and thrown freely since the season ended.

“I don’t have the exact answer because I don’t know how I’ll feel in two, three, four, five years, but from what I’ve understood, once it heals, it calcifies or hardens up and you don’t have an issue again,” he said. “I’ve been able to get up on the mound, do what I need to do without any pain, no symptoms. Haven’t really thought of it or felt it, so hopefully it’s something that’s just behind me and never have to think about it again. That’s the understanding that I’ve gotten from these doctors so I’m not really worried about it right now.”

In a recent interview with NBC Sports Philadelphia, Oakland Athletics pitcher Jesus Luzardo opened up about the trade that sent him to the Philadelphia Phillies and his confidence in overcoming his past back injury.

Gavaskar fires fresh salvo at Rishabh Pant for ‘careless’ dismissal: ‘He thinks it’s the only way he can score runs’

Rishabh Pant‘s dismissal in the first innings of the Melbourne Test against Australia has not gone down well with former India captain Sunil Gavaskar. Earlier in the day, Gavaskar had termed the shot “stupid” as he was on commentary for ABC Sport when the left-handed batter threw his wicket away in the morning session.

A few hours have passed since the 27-year-old’s dismissal. However, Gavaskar’s assessment hasn’t changed. He once again said it looks like the youngster doesn’t believe he can score runs by playing in an orthodox manner.

Rishabh Pant lost his wicket after he went for a falling flick shot off the bowling of Scott Boland. He only managed to get a top edge and had to walk back to the pavilion after scoring 28 runs.

What made the choice of shot more appalling was that a ball prior to his actual dismissal, he failed to execute the same flick and was hit in the ribs.

Speaking to India Today, Gavaskar said that the game situation did not merit such a shot as Rishabh Pant is capable of playing in an orthodox manner and scoring key runs for Team India.

“Very thin line. Always has been. I’ve always said there’s a very thin line between carefree and careless. That is exactly what we saw today. Because, you know, the previous ball, he tried to play the shot. There were two fielders there. And with two fielders on big, long Australian boundaries, you’re taking a chance,” Gavaskar said.

“Yes, if you connect it well, it’ll go for a six, and all of us will get up, applaud, and say, ‘ fantastic shot. ‘ But when the shot doesn’t come off, all of us, not all of us, but some of us who, you know, who feel very strongly about Indian cricket will feel upset and will, you know, want to express ourselves,” he added.

‘Not the Rishabh Pant we know’

Rishabh Pant has been relatively quiet in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy and is yet to go past the 50-run mark. On Day 3 of the Boxing Day Test, the left-hander looked set for a big one, but a poor shot led to his dismissal.

“That’s exactly what happened. I know that Rishabh, you know, people say that’s a natural game. Fair enough. It’s a natural game. But the way he’s been playing throughout this series, it looks as if he thinks that that’s the only way he’s going to score runs.,” said Gavaskar.

“That he doesn’t believe that he can score runs in an orthodox manner, you know, playing the cover drive, playing the flick shot, that he only has to go down the pitch and then smash the ball, or he’s got to play these, you know, reverse scoop or scoops to score runs,” he added.

Speaking further about Pant, Gavaskar said, “That is not what we saw of Rishabh Pant. Rishabh Pant has got plenty of shots and plenty of shots with less risk than some of the shots that he’s been attempting here in Australia and getting out to.”

Earlier, while commentating for ABC Sport, Sunil Gavaskar did not mince his words as he called out Pant for playing a reckless shot. He even said that Pant shouldn’t bother going inside the Indian dressing room.

Pant’s dismissal has led to a huge debate regarding whether the shot was merited or not. Ravi Shastri, the former Team India head coach, defended the wicketkeeper-batter, saying, he will not get out everyday by playing such a shot.

In a recent interview, former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has criticized Rishabh Pant for his “careless” dismissals, stating that the young wicketkeeper-batsman seems to believe that taking risks is the only way he can score runs.

Gavaskar, known for his no-nonsense approach to the game, did not mince words when discussing Pant’s approach at the crease. “It’s disappointing to see a talent like Pant throwing his wicket away with reckless shots. He needs to understand that there is a difference between aggression and carelessness,” he said.

The legendary cricketer went on to suggest that Pant should focus on building his innings and playing according to the situation rather than trying to hit every ball out of the park. “Pant has all the talent in the world, but he needs to show more maturity in his shot selection. He can’t keep giving his wicket away cheaply and expect to succeed at the highest level,” Gavaskar added.

This is not the first time Pant has come under scrutiny for his aggressive batting style, but Gavaskar’s comments are a reminder that the young cricketer still has a lot to learn in terms of tempering his natural flair with some much-needed restraint.

It remains to be seen how Pant responds to this latest criticism, but one thing is for sure – if he wants to fulfill his potential and become a consistent performer for India, he will need to take heed of Gavaskar’s advice and adapt his game accordingly.

Artificial Intelligence, or AI, has become an increasingly important part of our daily lives. From virtual assistants like Siri and Alexa to self-driving cars and predictive algorithms, AI is revolutionizing the way we interact with technology. But how exactly does AI think, and how can we harness its power while ensuring it remains under our control?

Building AI involves a combination of advanced algorithms, massive amounts of data, and powerful computing systems. Machine learning, a subset of AI, allows systems to learn from data and make decisions without being explicitly programmed. Deep learning, a form of machine learning inspired by the structure of the human brain, has enabled AI to achieve remarkable feats such as image and speech recognition.

AI has the potential to help us in countless ways. In healthcare, AI can analyze medical images and predict disease outcomes, leading to faster and more accurate diagnoses. In finance, AI can detect fraudulent transactions and optimize investment strategies. In transportation, AI can improve traffic flow and reduce accidents. The possibilities are endless.

However, the rapid advancement of AI also raises concerns about its potential negative consequences. The fear of AI surpassing human intelligence and taking over the world, as depicted in science fiction, is a valid concern. Ensuring that AI remains under human control is crucial to prevent such scenarios. Ethical considerations, transparency, and accountability are key in the development and deployment of AI systems.

Ultimately, how we build and control AI will determine its impact on society. By understanding how AI thinks, leveraging its capabilities for good, and implementing safeguards to prevent misuse, we can harness the full potential of this powerful technology while ensuring it remains a tool for human progress.
