    Miami Heat v Houston Rockets

Houston’s Amen Thompson and Miami’s Terry Rozier have been suspended, while two other players, as well as coach Ime Udoka, have been fined in the wake of the fight near the end of Miami’s win over Houston earlier this week, the league announced Tuesday.

Thompson has been suspended two games without pay — he instigated the incident by throwing the Heat’s Tyler Herro to the ground — and Miami’s Terry Rozier one game for escalating the event by jumping in and going after Thompson on the ground.

Rockets guard Jalen Green has been fined $35,000 and Miami’s Herro $25,000 for their roles in the fracas. However, the largest fine went to Houston coach Ime Udoka, $50,000, for “verbal abuse of a game official and failing to leave the court in a timely manner following his technical foul and ejection.”

All that was over this incident in the final minute of the Heat’s win on the Rockets’ home court this week.

After the game, Herro said, “Guess that’s what happens when someone’s scoring, throwing dimes, doing the whole thing. I’d get mad, too.” Udoka commented, “They were in each other’s faces, bumping chests a little bit. One guy is stronger than the other.” NBA Twitter tended to side with Udoka on that one, but Herro got the win and will take it.

The NBA has handed down suspensions and fines following the altercation between the Houston Rockets and Miami Heat on Thursday night. Rockets’ forward Amen Thompson and Heat’s guard Terry Rozier have been suspended for one game each for their role in the scuffle.

In addition to Thompson and Rozier, three other players have been fined for their involvement in the incident. The league has not disclosed the amount of the fines, but it is believed to be in the range of $25,000 to $50,000.

The altercation occurred late in the fourth quarter of the game, with tensions running high between the two teams. Thompson and Rozier were both ejected from the game after exchanging heated words and shoving each other.

The suspensions and fines serve as a reminder that the NBA takes player conduct seriously and will not tolerate any form of violence or unsportsmanlike behavior on the court. Both Thompson and Rozier will sit out their team’s next game as a result of their actions, while the other three players involved will have to pay a financial penalty.

It is important for players to remember to keep their emotions in check and to always conduct themselves in a professional manner, both on and off the court. Hopefully, this incident will serve as a learning experience for all involved and lead to more respectful interactions between players in the future.

Amen Thompson, Terry Rozier suspended, several fined after Heat-Rockets fight Sunday

Amen Thompson has been suspended two games while Terry Rozier has been suspended one for their roles in Sunday’s fight between the Houston Rockets and Miami Heat, the NBA announced Tuesday. Additionally, Jalen Green was fined $35,000, while Tyler Herro was fined $25,000 for their parts in the scuffle. Rockets coach Ime Udoka was also fined $50,000 for verbal abuse of a game official and failing to leave the court in a timely manner following his ejection.

Things started with 47.1 seconds remaining and Fred VanVleet attempting to inbound the ball for the Rockets. VanVleet tried to call a timeout, but was called for a five-second violation by referee Marc Davis instead. VanVleet argued with Davis, but seemed to accidentally bump into him and was quickly ejected.

“After the correctly assessed five-second violation, Fred VanVleet asked me why he was not granted a timeout,” Davis explained in the postgame pool report. “I communicated to him that the five-second count was reached prior to him requesting the timeout. He walks away. Coach Udoka then asks for an explanation. I give it to him and then Fred VanVleet re-engages and intentionally contacts me and is ejected as per rule.”

Mere seconds later, the Heat were attempting to inbound the ball when Amen Thompson and Tyler Herro grappled with one another. Thompson pulled Herro to the ground, and both teams rushed to the aid of their own players.

When the dust settled, six more people were ejected. Four of them were players: Thompson and Green on the Houston side and Herro and Rozier from the Heat. Two more were coaches, Rockets head coach Udoka and Houston assistant Ben Sullivan.

“During the dead ball, Thompson grabs the jersey and body slams Herro,” Davis said after the game in the pool report. “Herro responds and they are both ejected for fighting fouls. Green is ejected as his actions escalated the altercation.  Rozier as well is ejected as his actions were escalators to the altercation. Coach Sullivan is assessed a technical foul and ejected for his unsportsmanlike comments directed at me as I was attempting to redirect [Alperen] Sengun.”

Afterward, Herro suggested that his strong performance helped lead to the incident.

“Guess that’s what happens when someone’s scoring, throwing dimes, doing the whole thing,” said Herro, who finished with 27 points, nine assists and six rebounds on 10-for-17 shooting. “So I’d get mad, too.”

Udoka took the opportunity to express the physical superiority he believes Thompson holds over Herro.

“They were in each other’s faces, bumping chests a little bit,” Udoka said. “One guy is stronger than the other.”

The Heat went on to close out the victory from there, but further discipline is almost certainly coming for both sides in the coming days. On Friday, a fight between the Phoenix Suns and Dallas Mavericks yielded suspensions for three players: Naji Marshall (four games), Jusuf Nurkic (three games) and P.J. Washington (one game).

It was been a trying week for both teams. The Rockets have now lost two consecutive games, and their Friday defeat at the hands of the Minnesota Timberwolves came on an Anthony Edwards 3-pointer with less than 30 seconds remaining. The Heat, meanwhile, are dealing with trade rumors involving star wing Jimmy Butler that got so loud team president Pat Riley had to come out and say publicly that the Heat would not move him. Combine that with an extremely physical game on Sunday and tempers simply boiled over. Now both the Heat and Rockets are paying the price.

In a heated matchup between the Miami Heat and the Houston Rockets on Sunday, tensions boiled over resulting in suspensions and fines for several players. Amen Thompson and Terry Rozier were among those suspended for their roles in the altercation.

The incident occurred during the second quarter of the game, when Thompson and Rozier got into a physical altercation after a hard foul. Both players had to be restrained by teammates and officials before being ejected from the game.

In addition to the suspensions of Thompson and Rozier, several other players from both teams were fined for their involvement in the scuffle. The NBA released a statement condemning the actions of the players and emphasizing the importance of sportsmanship and respect on the court.

The Heat and Rockets are both expected to face disciplinary action from the league as a result of the incident. Fans are eager to see how the teams will respond and if there will be any lingering animosity between the players moving forward.

Overall, the fight serves as a reminder of the intensity and competitiveness of NBA games, but also highlights the need for players to control their emotions and conduct themselves in a professional manner. Let’s hope that all parties involved can learn from this incident and move forward in a positive and respectful manner.

The NBA is handing down punishments against four players and one coach after the fight that erupted on Sunday between the Houston Rockets and Miami Heat. The on-court brawl ended with six people getting ejected in the final seconds of the Heat’s 104-100 win.

The league announced the punishments through a news release Tuesday.

Rockets forward Amen Thompson, whose actions sparked the fight, has been suspended for two games without pay, while Heat guard Terry Rozier has been suspended for one game. Rockets guard Jalen Green has been fined $35,000, and Heat guard Tyler Herro, who was involved in the initial exchange with Thompson, was fined $25,000.

The NBA also fined Rockets head coach Ime Udoka $50,000, with the league citing “verbal abuse of a game official” and saying that Udoka did not leave in a timely manner after being ejected. Rockets assistant coach Ben Sullivan, who was also ejected from the game, did not get fined.

Additionally, Rockets guard Fred VanVleet was fined $35,000 for an unrelated incident earlier in the game. VanVleet was ejected 10 seconds before the fight after making “reckless contact” with a referee.

The fight began with an altercation between Thompson and Herro, with 35.7 seconds left in the fourth quarter. As the two players bumped into each other, Thompson suddenly got into Herro’s face and grabbed at his jersey, throwing him down to the floor. The incident sparked a full-on brawl, with both teams swarming the two players. It took assistant coaches, staff members and even arena security to diffuse the situation.

It is unclear what exactly led to Thompson’s actions, but the result was a chaotic, bench-clearing brawl that only escalated. The four players — Thompson, Green, Rozier and Herro — and two Rockets coaches were given technical fouls and ejected from the game. When play eventually resumed, the Heat held on for the final 30 seconds to get the four-point win.

With the punishment, Thompson will miss the Rockets’ matchups against the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday and Boston Celtics on Friday. Rozier will miss the Heat’s game against the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday.

The NBA has officially handed down punishments for the heated altercation between Miami Heat’s Amen Thompson and Houston Rockets’ Terry Rozier during their recent game. Both players have been suspended for their roles in the brawl, with Thompson receiving a one-game suspension and Rozier receiving a two-game suspension.

The incident occurred in the fourth quarter of the game, when tensions between the two players escalated and led to a physical altercation. Both players were ejected from the game, and now they will have to serve their suspensions as a result of their actions.

This serves as a reminder that fighting has no place in the game of basketball, and the NBA will not tolerate any form of violence on the court. Hopefully, both players will learn from this experience and come back stronger and more disciplined in the future.

Rockets’ Amen Thompson, Heat’s Terry Rozier suspended for fight

MIAMI — The NBA has suspended Houston’s Amen Thompson for two games and Miami’s Terry Rozier for one game over their roles in a skirmish in the final moments of the RocketsHeat game Sunday night.

The league also handed out $145,000 in fines Tuesday from that contest. Houston coach Ime Udoka was fined $50,000 for verbally abusing a game official and not leaving the court in a timely manner, while the Rockets’ Jalen Green was fined $35,000 and Miami’s Tyler Herro was fined $25,000 for their roles in the fight.

And from a separate incident just before the dustup, Houston’s Fred VanVleet was fined $35,000 for making contact with referee Marc Davis.

Because of the suspensions, Rozier will lose about $143,242 in salary and Thompson will lose about $127,586.

It was a wild final minute of the game, with seven ejections — VanVleet, Thompson, Rozier, Udoka, Houston assistant coach Ben Sullivan, Green and Herro — taking place. VanVleet was the first to go, getting thrown out for making contact with Davis following a five-second call being assessed against the Rockets.

And a few seconds later, things boiled over. Thompson threw Herro to the court after they exchanged words, Rozier entered the fray immediately afterward and plenty of players from both teams engaged in pushing, shoving and yelling.

Herro led all scorers with 27 points and added nine assists and six rebounds and said after the game that he believed that frustrated Thompson.

“Guess that’s what’s happens when someone’s scoring, throwing dimes, doing the whole thing,” Herro said. “I’d get mad, too.”

Miami wound up winning 104-100, after a late 19-5 run by the Heat helped them escape from what was a seven-point deficit with seven minutes left. Houston led by as many as 12 points midway through the third quarter.

“I think they lost control of their feelings when the game started to turn a little bit in our direction,” Herro said Tuesday. “And then obviously the ejection of VanVleet, you heard some words from their sideline towards the refs. They were definitely frustrated.”

Herro said that he got a bruise near one of his hips from the fall to the ground, but that he expects to play Wednesday against the Pelicans.

The NBA has announced that Houston Rockets forward Amen Thompson and Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier have been suspended for their involvement in a physical altercation during last night’s game.

Thompson and Rozier were both ejected from the game after getting into a heated exchange that quickly escalated into a shoving match. The league reviewed the incident and determined that both players violated the NBA’s rules on fighting and unsportsmanlike conduct.

Thompson has been suspended for two games, while Rozier will sit out one game. Both players have issued statements apologizing for their actions and expressing regret for letting their emotions get the best of them.

The Rockets and Heat will now be without key players as they continue their push for a playoff spot. Fans and analysts alike are already speculating on how these suspensions will impact their teams’ chances in the postseason.

It serves as a reminder that emotions can run high in the heat of competition, but players must always strive to maintain their composure and respect the rules of the game. Let’s hope that Thompson and Rozier learn from this incident and come back stronger and more disciplined players in the future.

Aussie star, Jordan Thompson is all set to take on America’s Alex Michelsen in the R16 of the Brisbane International. Both these tennis stars had an outstanding 2024 season and guess what? They’ve already got off to a winning start to their campaign in 2025 as well! Now, the question is who can extend that run further in Brisbane?

Alex Michelsen vs Jordan Thompson: Preview

The 20-year-old American rising star, Alex Michelsen made quite a few deep runs in the tournaments last season. He reached the final of the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships but was defeated by his compatriot Marcos Giron by 7-6(4),3-6,5-7. He also managed to reach the final at the Winston-Salem Open. However, it was Lorenzo Sonego who got the better of the American star in that tournament.

His opponent, Jordan Thompson on the other hand, won a title in the 2024 season, He defeated Casper Ruud in two sets in the final of the Los Cabos Open. Apart from that, he also reached the final of the Atlanta Open, but in that match, Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka defeated him in three sets.

Thompson also reached the QF and SF in some tournaments last season, but he failed to win another title after his success in Los Cabos. The 30-year-old Aussie will be entering this epic battle following his impressive performance against Italy’s Matteo Berrettini. He defeated the Italian by 3-6,6-3,6-4.

Thompson also has a better record in this tournament. He reached the SF last year, while Alex Michelsen faced an early exit. Michelsen, a young Danish player, has been making waves on the ATP tour with his impressive performances and fearless style of play. On the other hand, Thompson, known for his strong serve and aggressive baseline game, will be looking to use his experience to outsmart his younger opponent.

In terms of head-to-head record, Michelsen and Thompson have never faced each other before, making this match even more intriguing. Both players will be eager to make a statement and secure a spot in the next round of the tournament.

  • Jabeur makes winning return as Thompson, Dimitrov post victories

Jabeur makes winning return as Thompson, Dimitrov post victories

Ons Jabeur is back with a win in her Brisbane International debut following a lean six months without a victory and a season-ending shoulder injury.

This time last year, the Tunisian arrived in Australia as the world No.6, but after a challenging season in which she did not play the final four months, she notched a 7-6(5) 6-4 victory over China’s Zheng Saisai at Pat Rafter Arena on Monday night.

It marked the 30-year-old’s first win since she reached the third round at Wimbledon in July and her first match since a defeat to Naomi Osaka in Toronto in August.

    > READ MORE: Day 3 preview: Djokovic, Sabalenka, Kyrgios, Bados in action

“I was practising really hard for the past two months and I didn’t know what to expect from my first match after taking a break for a few months, so I’m happy for the win, happy to be back,” the world No.42 said.

“I obviously am very demanding with myself. I wish I could play better and better, but hopefully with the matches it will come.”

The 695th-ranked Zheng used a protected ranking and drew confidence from a win in Zhuhai in the pair’s sole prior encounter in 2017.

After she failed to serve out the opening set at 6-5, however, it was relatively one-way traffic for a relieved Jabeur, who set a second-round meeting with 14th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova.

“I made a few shots and that gave me the confidence a little bit … She’s very tricky, she has a lot of good slices, type of my game sort of, so I got to taste a little bit of what the other players feel like,” she said.

“I missed winning. That’s the most important thing. Obviously, the time I spent with my family was really necessary and I did some good work for humanity so very happy with that and that gives me the happy feeling to be back on the court.”

Thompson reels in former world No.6 Berrettini

As far as unseeded match-hardened floaters in the Brisbane International draw go, Jordan Thompson knows they don’t come much tougher than Matteo Berrettini, one of the heroes of Italy’s recent Davis Cup triumph.

With the home crowd in his corner, the eighth-seeded Australian though was up to task after he overcame a slow start against the former world No.6 to open his campaign with a 3-6 6-3 6-4 victory.

Later, defending men’s champion Grigor Dimitrov also booked his place in the second round following a 7-6(5) 6-3 victory over German qualifier Yannick Hanfmann.

“I just tried to give him a different look on serve. Obviously, he was serving unbelievably at the start and wasn’t missing many first serves,” Thompson said. “I thought I’d try and throw him off his rhythm. I think I might have just jagged a lucky break and maybe just got it started.

“It’s difficult. Sometimes it’s really hard to find his backhand. He’s a big frame and he’s got a huge serve and huge forehand. Trying to pin him in that backhand corner’s not as easy as it sounds.

“I think I can credit my movement, just trying to counterpunch, you know, a faster strike and I feel like I can get on top of the rally.”

Berrettini was looking to continue his resurgence following a foot injury that cut short his 2023 season.

He was eager to break Australian hearts again having eked out a win over Thanasi Kokkinakis in the Davis Cup semifinals in Malaga last month on his way to guiding his nation to a successful Davis Cup title defence.

The 28-year-old prevailed in his only prior encounter with Thompson in the opening round of the 2019 US Open but both had transformed since, the Sydneysider in a breakout 2024 season in which he snared a first career title at Los Cabos and cracked the top 30.

    > READ MORE: Dimitrov’s enduring passion drives title defence

Thompson held fond memories of a run to the semifinals in Brisbane last January when he saved a match point against Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals in what became the Spaniard’s final match on Australian soil.

“He’s one of my childhood heroes and taking him down on this court in a quarterfinal on a Friday night really kickstarted my year,” he said before he jokingly tipped his hat to a final exclamation mark that rounded out his season. “Then I went and trained with the Wests Tigers and that just boosted it even more.”

Another big server, 20-year-old Alex Michelsen, awaits. The American earlier saved a match point and converted on his fifth to sneak past Thompson’s compatriot Christopher O’Connell 6-4 4-6 7-6(12).

In an earlier all-Australian encounter at Pat Rafter Arena, Kimberly Birrell set up a second-round showdown against second seed Emma Navarro following a three-set win over good friend and former practice partner Priscilla Hon.

Having trailed a set and 3-1 in the second set, 26-year-old Birrell won 3-6 7-5 6-2.

Dimitrov launches title defence on winning note

Reigning men’s champion Dimitrov emerged triumphant in a testing opening match of his campaign when he saw off Hanfmann in a one-hour, 49-minute tussle on Monday afternoon.

The Bulgarian No.2 seed recovered from an early break in the first set against the world No.96 to set a second-round meeting with Australian wildcard Aleksandar Vukic.

“I never looked at his ranking. He’s such a quality player and he fights all the time,” Dimitrov said of Hanfmann. “We played earlier on this year. That was a different match, clearly.”

Dimitrov won that previous encounter for the loss of just one game on his way to the Miami Masters final.

Victory on Tuesday was his 24th in Brisbane, more than any other man.

“I came here 15 years ago and yeah, I think since Day 1 I had that [love] affair [with Brisbane] so I want to keep on going, keep on building, keep on testing myself, keep on delivering as long as I can,” he said.

“I just want to enjoy when I step out here. I seems like I’m doing that every single time. I think that’s a good thing. Hopefully I can continue and go all the way again.”

Third seed Holger Rune, a runner-up to Dimitrov in the final last January, was the biggest seeded casualty to date.

Czech Jiri Lehecka continued his mid-year comeback from a back stress fracture to deny the Dane 7-5 6-3. The world No.28 will face Japanese qualifier Yoshihito Nishioka in the second round.

In a thrilling day of tennis action, Ons Jabeur made a winning return to the court, while Jordan Thompson and Grigor Dimitrov also secured victories.

Jabeur, who had been sidelined with an injury, showed no signs of rust as she dominated her opponent to secure a convincing win. The Tunisian star displayed her trademark power and finesse, delighting fans with her impressive performance.

Meanwhile, Thompson and Dimitrov also impressed with their strong showings on the court. Thompson showcased his powerful serve and precise shot-making to secure a hard-fought victory, while Dimitrov displayed his trademark flair and skill to outclass his opponent.

The trio’s impressive performances serve as a reminder of their talent and determination, and fans can’t wait to see what they’ll bring to the court in their next matches. Amen Thompson and Tyler Herro sparked a massive benches-clearing brawl in the final seconds of the Miami Heat’s 104-100 win over the Houston Rockets on Sunday night.

With about 30 seconds left at the Toyota Center, Herro and Thompson were jostling for position ahead of an inbounds pass when things suddenly erupted. Thompson then suddenly got into Herro’s face and grabbed him by the collar before he ripped him down to the floor. Instantly, Thompson and Herro were swarmed by both teams onto the pile as chaos ensued.

It took several assistant coaches, staff members and even arena security to diffuse the situation. Herro was seen clapping at Thompson as they were both being held back.

That naturally led to a slew of ejections, including Thompson, Jalen Green and Houston coach Ime Udoka. Terry Rozier and Herro were both ejected for the Heat. While it’s unclear what sparked the incident specifically, the league is sure to hand out fines and further punishment as a result in the coming days.

Despite the chaotic final sequence, the Heat held on down the stretch to grab a four-point win. Herro had a team high 27 points and nine assists for Miami, which improved to 16-14 with the victory. Nikola Jokic added 18 points off the bench, and Haywood Highsmith finished with 15 points and eight rebounds.

Dillon Brooks led the Rockets with 22 points in the loss. Alperen Sengun finished with 18 points and 18 rebounds, and Green had 19 points before he was ejected. Thompson had just five points off the bench.

Tyler Herro, Amen Thompson Involved In Fight During Heat Vs. Rockets

The Miami Heat were on the way to defeating the Houston Rockets when chaos broke out with 35.7 seconds left in the game.

Heat guard Tyler Herro and Rockets guard Amen Thompson were involved in a scuffle. Thompson ended up throwing Herro to the ground, causing the benches to clear. Herro and Terry Rozier were ejected as were Thompson, Jalen Green and Rockets coach Ime Udoka.

The Heat were ahead by seven at the time before capturing 104-100 victory.

It took a few minutes for the referees to restore order. They watch things closely so the teams could play out the final half minute. The win allowed the Heat to bounce back after Saturday night’s loss to the Atlanta Hawks.

They now return home to start a three-game homestand, beginning Wednesday against the New Orleans Pelicans at Kaseya Center. Sunday’s victory will be overshadowed by the ending.

It began when Thompson grabbed Herro by the jersey. He then threw Herro to the ground, causing teammates from both sides to attempt to intervene. While things were trying to calm, Herro was seen jawing toward Thompson and Rockets players.

This was the first incident for the Heat this season. Thompson, who is in his second year in the league, played high school ball in Broward Country. He and twin brother, Amir, led Pine Crest to the state title in 2022.
