Open Thread: Colorado Avalanche vs Philadelphia Flyers (1:00 p.m. MST)
The Avs come into this contest coming off of a dominating performance against the Blues, scoring four goals in the first period, including the first goal in an Avs sweater for Martin Necas in his home debut. The speed Necas plays with has meshed seamlessly in the Avs system so far, and a rapport with Nathan MacKinnon is quickly forming.
As for today, the recipe for success should look the same as it did on Friday night. The Avs weren’t afraid to shoot the puck, and were rewarded early and often on the scoresheet. The Blues simply could not keep up. With this being the final time the Avs will play on front of the Avs faithful until February 26th, the Avs should be ready to come out flying and put on another show for the fans.
Cale Makar and Scott Wedgewood were absent from practice on Saturday. Makar, who blocked a shot with his foot against the Dallas Stars on January 18th, has seemingly been managing that issue ever since, so this should be nothing more than maintenance for the Avs star defenseman.
Conversely, Wedgewood’s situation is a mystery. He has not appeared in game action in 8 days, last playing in Boston against the Bruins to open the Avs recent road trip. Additionally, Trent Miner was recalled from the Colorado Eagles yesterday, so the signs point towards Wedgewood being a scratch today.
As is the case with matinee affairs, the Avs won’t have a morning skate prior to the start of the game, so lineups will be confirmed in warmups.
Projected Lineup
Artturi Lehkonen (62) — Nathan MacKinnon (29) — Martin Necas (88)
Jonathan Drouin (27) — Casey Mittelstadt (37) — Juuso Parssinen (16)
Miles Wood (28) — Jack Drury (18) — Ross Colton (20)
Joel Kiviranta (94) — Parker Kelly (17) — Logan O’Connor (25)
Devon Toews (7) — Cale Makar (8)
Samuel Girard (49) — Josh Manson (42)
Keaton Middleton (67) — Sam Malinski (70)
Mackenzie Blackwood (39)

New York Rangers vs Boston Bruins Open Thread
Following three days out of action following Tuesday’s thumping at the hands of the Carolina Hurricanes, the Blueshirts are back on the road for a pivotal matchup in the Eastern Conference wild card race. TD Garden in Boston is the site for this Original Six matchup between the Rangers and Bruins, and this Saturday matinee will provide a key opportunity for Peter Laviolette’s squad to bounce back from consecutive losses.
Chris Drury took full advantage of the three days away from the rink, pulling the trigger on a heavily-rumored trade that seemed inevitable, but finally came to pass. The prodigal son has returned to the Rangers as J.T. Miller was re-acquired from the Vancouver Canucks (along with a pair of prospects) in exchange for Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini, and a top-13 protected first round draft pick in 2025. Drafted by the Rangers 15th overall in 2011, Miller played parts of six seasons on Broadway from 2013-2018 before being shipped to the Tampa Bay Lightning shortly after “The Letter” was sent out.
Miller only lasted a season and a half in Tampa before being shuttled along to Vancouver, where he had played since 2019. Having waived his no-trade clause to facilitate a deal, Miller returns to Broadway a different player than the one that was traded away nearly seven years ago, and the Blueshirts hope he can be a spark plug to reignite this season.
Player to Watch: J.T. Miller
The obvious choice, Miller will be in the lineup today after flying in from Dallas where the Canucks played last night. With the No. 10 he wore for the majority of his first stint in New York taken by Artemiy Panarin, and the No. 9 being out of commission and retired, Miller will don No. 8, last worn by Jacob Trouba before he was traded away in December. Miller will look to make an immediate impact in his return to the Blueshirts this afternoon. Keep an eye on the newest Ranger in what will be a key matchup in this critical clash of Eastern Conference wild card hopefuls.
Enjoy the game!
Welcome to the open thread for the New York Rangers vs Boston Bruins game!Tonight, these two Original Six teams will face off in an exciting matchup at Madison Square Garden. The Rangers are looking to continue their strong start to the season, while the Bruins are hoping to bounce back from a recent loss.

Badgers news: Game Thread vs. Northwestern Wildcats
Fresh off a 76-68 loss over the Maryland Terrapins, the Wisconsin Badgers are finishing off their road trip with a matchup against the Northwestern Wildcats, with tip-off set for 1:00 p.m. at the Welsh-Ryan Arena on Saturday.
After a blowout victory over the Nebraska Cornhuskers last weekend, the Badgers had a tough road matchup earlier this week against Maryland, who matched up well against Wisconsin.
Outside of John Tonje, who had 23 points in the win, the Badgers really struggled to score, with the rest of the team shooting just 32.6 percent from the field in the loss.
Wisconsin especially struggled to score in the paint against Maryland’s duo of Julian Reese and Derik Queen, which led to some poor efficiency both inside and outside of the arc.
Now, the Badgers enter a matchup against a Northwestern Wildcats team that has gone 12-9 on the year and 3-7 in conference play, most recently losing three of their last four games.
This one will be tough for Northwestern, as they’ll be without their second-leading scorer Brooks Barnhizer, who has averaged 17.4 points per game this season.
Barnhizer’s top running partner this season has been forward Nick Martinelli, who has averaged 19.6 points and 5.4 rebounds per game, while shooting 48.6 percent from the field and 41 percent from three.
Limiting Martinelli will be key for the Badgers as they look to get back on track to cap off their road trip.
The Badgers come into Wednesday as a 3.5-point favorite on the road. Can they bounce back on Saturday? Or will Northwestern find a way to bounce back from their recent losses?
Welcome to the game thread for the matchup between the Wisconsin Badgers and the Northwestern Wildcats!Tonight, the Badgers will be looking to continue their winning streak as they face off against the Wildcats in what is sure to be an exciting game. With both teams hungry for a victory, this is sure to be a competitive and intense matchup.

1. Audition Time
The NHL Trade Deadline is about five weeks away. As far as the fanbase is concerned, just about the entire roster is on the chopping block, though in reality General Manager Kevyn Adams is looking to see who he can pawn off to create cap room for the summer.
Younger players like Dylan Cozens and Jack Quinn who have had less than impressive seasons will be looking to correct things, while Amerks like Jiri Kulich and Tyson Kozak will be attempting to seal their berths at the senior club for next season.
As far as Lindy Ruff is concerned, he’s going to want to see some grit especially when his team are in positions of adversity, one place in particular where they folded badly this season.
2. Fathers’ Trip
The Preds trip to Buffalo is the first game of their annual fathers’ trip when the players get to bring along their dads for an away swing, with a game away at the Penguins the next stop. After a difficult season of their own which sees them contending with the Sabres for a prime NHL Draft lottery position, the Preds might have some additional motivation tonight.
Oh also, look out for Filip Forsberg who is in on a hot streak right about now, eleven points (five goals, six assists) in the last five games.
3. All Eyes on Rayzor
Tonight though will be about one man, who won’t even be dressing for the Sabres tonight. Tonight is the induction of Rob Ray who will become the 44th member of the Buffalo Sabres Hall of Fame.
The induction ceremony will feature tributes to Rayzor’s career, with a couple of dozen of his fellow Sabres Hall of Famers present as well. Doors are at 5 p.m. with fans asked to be in their seats by 6 p.m. for the start of the ceremony.
There will be alumni appearances, Rayzor-themed giveaways, photo opportunities in the concourse, and more throughout the night.

Game 51 Preview & Open Thread: Sabres vs. PredatorsThe Buffalo Sabres are set to take on the Nashville Predators in an exciting matchup tonight at KeyBank Center. The Sabres are looking to bounce back from a tough loss in their last game, while the Predators are hoping to continue their winning streak.
The Sabres will be looking to their top scorers, including Jack Eichel and Sam Reinhart, to lead the way offensively. On the defensive end, Rasmus Dahlin and Rasmus Ristolainen will be tasked with shutting down the Predators’ potent offense.
Meanwhile, the Predators will rely on their star players, such as Roman Josi and Filip Forsberg, to generate scoring chances. Pekka Rinne will be between the pipes, looking to stifle the Sabres’ offense.

Given the announcement of the free version of the GitHub Copilot, we take a more detailed look at recent developments.
Of course here at IProgrammer we’ve covered the initial announcement:
GitHub has launched GitHub Copilot Free, a free version of Copilot that provides limited access to selected features of Copilot and is automatically integrated into VS Code. The free tier is aimed at individual GitHub customers who don’t have access to Copilot through an organization or enterprise. The news coincides with GitHub having 150 million developers on GitHub.
What the plan gives is :
- 2000 code completions/month
- 50 chat requests/month
- 64k context window for a seamless development experience
Looks enough, before even considering upgrading to the Pro version.
This was followed by this month’s Jetbrains announcement that the new free plan for GitHub Copilot has become available for everyone on JetBrains IDEs:
Whether you use IntelliJ IDEA (Ultimate, Community, Educational), PyCharm(Professional, Community, Educational), WebStorm, PhpStorm, Rider, or any other compatible JetBrains IDEs, you can now take advantage of this free plan to assist you in your development.
With this Free Plan, you can enable GitHub Copilot using just your GitHub account—no trials, subscriptions, or credit cards required.
For it to be activated inside your favorite Jetbrains IDE, you should take the following actions :
- Open your JetBrains IDE, go to the “Plugins” section, search for “GitHub Copilot”, and click “Install.”
- Open the Copilot Chat Window
- Activate Your Free Plan
- After activating your account, return to this welcome guide and click Sign in to GitHub to continue.
Done. Now if you’ve never used GitHub Copilot before, you’ll need to find your bearings. We are here for that too.
Use it like ChatGPT; you can chat with copilot like you do with ChatGPT.
When the context is clear, Copilot provides direct and relevant answers. When it isn’t, Copilot guides you by asking follow-up questions to ensure clarity and precision.
This leads to:
- More Engagement: Developers spend less time figuring out how to phrase their prompts and more time focused on the task at hand.
- Less Complexity: Copilot’s ability to guide and clarify reduces the need for developers to navigate complex intent systems.
- Increased Productivity: With less back-and-forth and more focused responses, developers can move faster through their workflows.
Watch the video to understand how it works:
If the default LLM foundation model doesn’t fit your needs then you can change it. You can discover new Models by going through the Github Marketplace, where you can explore them too check their description, capabilities and compatibility.
The model catalog currently includes mainstream models like :
- Phi04
- OpenAI o1
- Llama-3.3.-70B-Instruct
- Ministral 3B
Unfortunately IBM’s Granite, which are great for coding, are not in the list, but it is being constaly updated, so maybe they will be included in the future.
Finally, you’ve installed Copilot in your favorite IDE and picked your Model, what do you do next? Fortunately there’s a great tutorial by Microsoft on “Learn how to create a Client-Server Application GitHub Copilot in under 45 Minutes”. This will surely solidify understanding.
