Calipari’s return to Rupp bringing high ticket prices
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Kentucky and Arkansas will face off at Rupp Arena on Saturday night.
Former Kentucky coach John Calipari is returning to Rupp Arena for the first time since leaving to coach Arkansas.
To say it’s one of the most sought-after tickets in recent memory would be an understatement.
Even getting into the cheap seats will be more expensive than usual. We found out that goes for both fans and students who haven’t already purchased a ticket.
We spoke with sports talk radio host ESPN Lexington 1300 Brad Taylor on those ticket prices. He did some research online and found the lowest-priced ticket going for $200.
Taylor says as the game gets closer, the price will jump. On Thursday, that same ticket was selling for around $175.
To put this in context, he says right now, next week’s home game against South Carolina is going for $150.
“So the tickets aren’t really fighting tooth and nail to get in the door for this one, but you can see there is a little bit more to get a big push to get the Big Blue Nation to get into this game,”
UK student Carson King got his ticket online, but he says it was after the Ticketmaster site had crashed. He said when he got back online, the $20 student tickets were gone. Another student sold him a student ticket for $80.
“I think it’s worth it once in a lifetime thing to see John Calipari come back for the first time hopefully we beat them,” King said.
Brad Taylor is also an expert sports handicapper. He says right now, the Wildcats are favored by 11 over the Razorbacks.

Powerball ticket worth $50K sold at small N.J. market
A Powerball ticket worth $50,000 was purchased for Saturday’s lottery drawing at a corner market in Mercer County.
The lucky third-prize Powerball ticket was bought at Torres Lopez Market Deli on Stuyvesant Avenue in Trenton, the New Jersey Lottery said Monday.
The ticket matched four numbers plus the Powerball.
Saturday’s winning numbers were: 8, 15, 17, 53 and 66. The Powerball drawn was 14 with a Power Play of 3X.
No one across the country hit Saturday’s $48 million jackpot. A second-prize, $1 million ticket was sold in Texas. It matched five numbers but not the Powerball.
In addition, no one won the secondary, $10 million Double Play drawing. Those winning numbers were: 2, 5, 52, 59 and 60. The Double Play number drawn was 16.
Monday’s jackpot is worth an estimated $56 million with a cash option of $24.9 million.
The odds of hitting the Powerball jackpot are 292,201,388 to 1. A player who buys a $2 ticket has about a 1 in 11,688,053 chance to match five numbers and win at least $1 million, while the odds are 913,129 to 1 to win a third prize of at least $50,000.
Powerball drawings are held each Monday, Wednesday and Saturday in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

LANSING, MI — An Oakland County woman is celebrating a gift that will change her life after she won a $4 million jackpot on the Michigan Lottery’s $150,000,000 Spectacular instant game.
“My dad bought a $150,000,000 Spectacular instant game ticket and gave it to me,” said the 26-year-old winner, who chose to remain anonymous. “I was surprised when he handed it to me, and I asked him why he bought it for me. He said it was a ‘just because gift,’ which I though was really nice of him.
“When I scratched the ticket off, I was stunned to see that it was a $4 million winner. I had so many emotions going through my body. I screamed. I cried. I was and still am shocked I won $4 million.”
The winning ticket was sold at the Light House Liquor, located at 13651 West 9 Mile Road in Oak Park. The winner elected to receive her prize as a one-time lump-sum payment of about $2.7 million rather than the annuity. With her winnings, she plans on saving the money.
“Winning $4 million is life changing for anyone, but especially for this young woman who is only 26 years old,” said Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli. “She will be able to use this prize to positively impact her life for many years to come.”

The last players from Michigan to win a Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot is the Breakfast Club lottery club which claimed a $842 million jackpot in June 2024. The members plan to use the money to buy a home in Florida and travel.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (FOX 9) – The three-day Minnesota Yacht Club Festival will feature headliners Hozier, Fall Out Boy and Green Day.
The second annual Minnesota Yacht Club Festival will take place on July 18-20 at Harriet Island in St. Paul. The festival expanded from two days to three days as more than 25 artists will perform on two stages.

Theresa Sons’ random purchase of a lottery ticket during a trip to the store for cigarettes paid off big.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Montgomery County woman is smiling big after winning $50,000 from a Kentucky Lottery scratch-off ticket.
Theresa Sons said she went to Poppa’s Quick Stop on Levee Road in Jeffersonville, Kentucky to purchase cigarettes when she also purchased a $2,000,000 Diamond Dazzler scratch-off ticket.
Previously, she had played another $30 ticket when she decided to try the Diamond Dazzler.
Sons got the second to the last ticket on the roll, went back to her car and began scratching it.
“I bout had a heart attack,” she said.
Instead of scratching from the top down, she told lottery officials she did it from the bottom up – something she never does.
Her immediate thought, “I won something, I just don’t know what.”
Sons matched the number 23 to win the game’s $50,000 second prize.
She said she went home and told her boyfriend who thought something was wrong when he saw her face.
“This was her first time leaving the house after the snow, we all thought she wrecked her car,” her son said.
The Kentucky Lottery said this isn’t the first time Sons has won a big prize. She told the lottery she won $10,000 on a game when the Kentucky Lottery first began selling tickets.
“I’ve been playing a long time,” she said.
Sons claimed her winnings at the Louisville headquarters, collecting a check for $36,000 after taxes. She said she plans to buy her kids a car.
Poppa’s Quick Stop will receive $500 for selling the winning ticket.

At Sundance, the hottest ticket in town was a Rose Byrne and Conan O’Brien psychological thriller
PARK CITY, Utah (AP) — Rose Byrne plays a mother in the midst of a breakdown in the experiential psychological thriller “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.”
Anticipation was high for the A24 film, which will be released sometime this year. Its premiere Friday at the Sundance Film Festival was easily the hottest ticket in town, with even ticketholders unable to get in. Those who did make it into the Library theater were treated to an intense, visceral, inventive story from filmmaker Mary Bronstein that has quickly become one of the festival’s must-sees.
Byrne plays Linda, who is barely hanging on while managing her daughter’s mysterious illness. She’s faced with crisis after crisis, big and small — from the massive, gaping hole in their apartment ceiling that forces them to move to a dingy motel, to an escalating showdown with a parking attendant at a care center. The cracks in her psychological, emotional and physical wellbeing are become too much to bear.
“I’d never seen a movie before where a mother is going through a crisis with a child but our energy is not with the child’s struggle, it’s with the mother’s,” Bronstein said at the premiere. “If you’re a caretaker, you shouldn’t be bothering with yourself at all. It should all be about the person you’re taking care of, right? And that is a particular kind of emotional burnout state that I was really interested in exploring.”
Byrne and Bronstein went deep in the preparation phase, having long discussions about Linda with the goal of making her as real as possible before the quick, 27-day shoot. Byrne said she was obsessed with figuring out who Linda was before the crisis. The film was in part inspired by Bronstein’s experience with her own daughter, but she didn’t want to elaborate on the specifics.
“That’s her story to tell,” Bronstein said.
Part of Linda’s story involves her therapist, played by Conan O’Brien, who joked that he didn’t realize he was in a movie.
“I’m not looking out for movie scripts or anything. But when I got a call from A24 that they wanted me to read something, I’m not stupid,” O’Brien said. “I showed it to my wife, who is one of the smartest people I know, and she read through it and she said, ‘I didn’t know they made movies like this anymore.’”
He was particularly in awe of his director and co-star, saying he felt like a fraud standing beside them.
“It was an amazing experience, one of the best experiences of my life, just to be with them and watch them work,” O’Brien said. “I don’t know how (Byrne) did that and not check into a hospital afterwards, because I haven’t seen any actor, man or woman, sustain that level for an entire movie.”
“I feel like I have to go to a hospital now, because this was the first time I watched it,” he added. “I’m a mess.”
A$AP Rocky also co-stars, as a man Linda meets at the motel, but was not in Park City for the premiere. He is currently on trial, charged with firing a gun at a former friend.
The film is full of ambiguity, metaphor and just plain artistic expression that Bronstein hesitated to explain, from the name itself to the hole in the ceiling, which takes on a somewhat supernatural quality.
“When we have nothing left to give, we have an emptiness inside of us,” Bronstein said. “And that emptiness is actually not empty: It’s filled with all the darkness and self-hate and doubt and fear and dread and regret and everything. … That to me is what the hole is.”
Some of it, she said, she doesn’t even fully understand. The point is the experience, and critics and Sundance audiences are already fully on board.
Bronstein, a bit of a cult figure in the film world, made her directorial debut in 2008 at the SXSW festival with “Yeast,” which featured a pre-fame Greta Gerwig and was hailed by by New Yorker critic Richard Brody as a “mumblecore classic.”
“If I Had Legs I’d Kick You” is only her second feature.
“This is the first time that anybody else has paid for me to make art,” Bronstein said. “I’m proud to say that this is the film that came directly from my head to the screen.”

An investor that put just $451 in the business back at the initial public offering would see that balance worth $1 million right now. This is a much better gain than what the Nasdaq Composite Index produced.
However, investors who missed the boat have their sights on the future and what it could bring for their own portfolios. Can this “Magnificent Seven” stock be your ticket to becoming a millionaire by 2030?
Growth tailwinds
Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s founder and former CEO, instituted a culture in which it’s always “Day 1.” This simply means that the business will never get complacent, always trying to push the needle to penetrate new markets and find ways to better serve customers. This continues to work wonders.
Unlike the vast majority of companies out there, Amazon has numerous growth engines propelling it. Yes, the business generated a colossal $620 billion in revenue in the last 12 months. But that figure is set to continue climbing higher.
Amazon is the leader in e-commerce, which still only commands a tiny share of overall retail spending. It has exposure to the streaming industry, benefiting from the cord-cutting trend with Prime Video. The company also has a booming digital advertising segment that saw sales jump 19% in Q3 on a year-over-year basis.
Then there’s Amazon Web Services, which consistently puts up double-digit top-line growth. Increasing interest in cloud computing infrastructure, especially due to the rise of artificial intelligence, gives Amazon a powerful tailwind in the years ahead.
Expanding bottom line
Amazon has historically generated very low profits because it’s always investing aggressively in new growth initiatives. Knowing that Amazon can stop spending in order to boost earnings at any point, the market has given the company a pass. Most other businesses aren’t so fortunate.
In this instance, long-term shareholders should always want the management team to think about the next decade, as opposed to trying to hit some short-term financial targets. Nonetheless, Amazon has shown that it’s still focused on driving efficiencies.
Earnings are on an impressive trajectory. Through the first nine months of 2024, Amazon generated $47.4 billion in operating income, which was more than double the same period the year before. Cost controls, particularly around right-sizing the workforce, have been a priority.
Wall Street sees the good times rolling. Consensus analyst estimates call for 2026 operating income to total $99 billion, triple the amount from 2023.
Millionaire by the end of the decade
Even after Amazon’s historical performance, the stock doesn’t look too expensive. It trades at a forward P/E ratio of 35.3. That might be a reasonable price to pay for a company that has a strong brand, network effects, and cost advantages, for example, that support its competitive position.
Given its growth potential, earnings trajectory, economic moat, and valuation today, I don’t think it’s a stretch to believe Amazon’s stock can double over the next five years. This certainly makes it a worthy investment candidate that should be on your radar.
However, this also means that for new investors to become millionaires by 2030 a $500,000 investment would be required right now. Not many people have that kind of money sitting around, which likely implies that Amazon isn’t a millionaire-maker stock this decade.
If you can extend your time horizon over the next couple decades or more, then perhaps this dominant business can get you in the seven-figure club. Just know that the stock’s forward returns aren’t going to resemble the monster gains of the past.
