  • Minnesota State Fair ticket, parking costs to increase in 2025

Minnesota State Fair tickets and parking costs will go up this year to fund more than $20 million in improvements and keep up with rising operational expenses, leaders announced Sunday.

Ticket prices will increase $2 for the 2025 State Fair, costing adults $20 at the gate, the fair board decided. On-site parking will cost $25, up from $20 last year.

CEO Renee Alexander said the fair is dealing with higher operational costs after keeping prices flat last year, along with the need to maintain and enhance aging facilities.

“We consciously did not raise ticket and parking prices last year because we know that Minnesotans’ budgets are tight,” Alexander said Sunday, after the board of the State Agricultural Society, which oversees the fair, held its annual meeting.

She said leaders “do not take lightly the decision to increase prices, and every dollar earned is reinvested into ensuring the State Fair remains a premier experience and one of the best values you’ll find for any event.”

The board approved several projects throughout the 322-acre grounds, including nearly $14 million in major renovations to the Lee & Rose Warner Coliseum. It is the first significant update to the building in its 75-year history, according to Sunday’s announcement.

The structure serves as the centerpiece of youth and open-class livestock and horse exhibitions, as well as dozens of year-round events. Upgrades, which are estimated to total $22 million this year and next, include replacing the roof, modernizing the electrical system, installing new seats, expanding restrooms and improving lighting, entryways and accessibility.

Another $6.2 million this year will pay for roof repairs throughout the fairgrounds, sewer system maintenance, upgrades to the fiber optic system, new fencing, and the purchase of a police squad car. Visitors will notice upgrades throughout the grounds, including new lighting, drinking fountains, misting machines, landscaping and more trees.

Get ready to dig a little deeper into your pockets for the Minnesota State Fair experience in 2025. Ticket and parking costs are set to increase for the beloved annual event.

Starting next year, admission tickets for adults will see a slight increase, while children and senior tickets will also see a bump in price. Additionally, parking fees for both general and preferred lots will also go up.

While the price hike may come as a disappointment to some fairgoers, officials assure that the increase is necessary to cover rising operating costs and ensure the fair continues to provide a top-notch experience for all attendees.

So, if you’re planning on attending the Minnesota State Fair in 2025, be prepared to budget a little extra for your ticket and parking expenses. But rest assured, the fun and excitement of the fair will be well worth the investment!

  • MN State Fair raising ticket prices in 2025

The Minnesota State Fair will hike ticket prices by $2 this year, bringing the cost of a regular ticket for an adult to $20.

    Ticket price increase

    What we know:

Fair officials announced on Sunday, following the Minnesota State Agricultural Society’s Annual Meeting, ticket prices would go up as the fair looks to “fund extensive capital improvements and maintenance work and address rising operational costs.”

Among the projects the fair is eyeing this year is a $22 million renovation of the historic Lee & Rose Warner Coliseum.

The fair kept ticket prices flat in 2024 after a series of $1 hikes in the years prior. Ticket prices were raised by a dollar in 2019, 2021, 2022, and 2023. Over the past twenty years, ticket prices for the fair have more than doubled, going from $9 in 2005 to $20 this year. Many of the recent hikes came as the fair tried to rebound after losing the 2020 festival due to COVID.

On-site parking prices will also go up, jumping from $20 to $25.

    Dig deeper:

Minnesota State Agricultural Society board approved a $71 million budget at the meeting.

Along with the Warner Coliseum renovation, the fair is looking to make upgrades to 4-H building roof, fencing and gate areas, “revamping” the Creative Activities Annex, Christensen Pavilion upgrades, repairing sidewalks and streets, improving lighting, replacing water stations, buying misting machines, and street pavement, caring for and adding trees, and purchasing a police squad..

Among rising operational costs, the fair says its public safety budget has more than doubled since 2019 while it is also “prioritizes providing competitive wages for the fair’s more than 2,000 seasonal and fair-time staff members.”

    Minnesota State Fair ticket prices

    By the numbers:

With the increases across the board, prices for tickets bought during the fair will be:

    • Adult (ages 13-64): $20
    • Seniors and kids: $18
    • Children ages 4 and under: Free

Tickets are currently available at a discount, $15 for all ages, until Jan. 26. After Jan. 26, tickets will be available at a pre-fair discount of $17 for all ages.

    What they’re saying:

In a statement, Minnesota State Fair CEO Renee Alexander wrote:

“Our goal is to exceed the expectations that guests and fair participants have for an exceptional experience in well-maintained facilities. Delivering on this while ensuring the sustainability of our operations requires increased investment and financial stewardship. We consciously did not raise ticket and parking prices last year because we know that Minnesotans’ budgets are tight. We encourage our guests to take advantage of the many ways to save on admission – such as buying pre-fair discount tickets – as nearly 60 percent of our guests did in 2024. Because we strive to keep admission prices as low as we can, this makes it challenging to account for the expense of improving our aging facilities and infrastructure. We do not take lightly the decision to increase prices, and every dollar earned is reinvested into ensuring the State Fair remains a premier experience and one of the best values you’ll find for any event.”

    The 2025 Minnesota State Fair

    What’s next:

The 2025 Minnesota State Fair is scheduled to be held from Aug. 21 to Labor Day, Sept. 1.

    Big picture view:

The 2024 Minnesota State Fair ended with the 5th highest total attendance in history.

The fair also saw five daily attendance records broken during the 2024 festival:

    • The first Thursday saw 138,875 people — the previous record was 133,326 in 2016.
    • The first Friday saw 171,233 people — the previous record was 164,741 in 2023.
    • The first Wednesday saw 145,531 people — the previous record was 144,940 in 2018.
    • The second Friday saw 225,521 people — the previous record was 209,789 in 2019.
    • The second Sunday saw 256,015 people — the previous record was 245,243 in 2019.

The MN State Fair announced today that they will be raising ticket prices for the 2025 fair. Starting next year, admission will increase by $5, making the new price $20 for adults and $15 for seniors and children. This decision comes as the fair looks to cover rising costs and continue to provide a top-notch experience for fairgoers.

The MN State Fair is known for its wide variety of food, entertainment, and attractions, and organizers are confident that the increase in ticket prices will not deter attendees. They assure fairgoers that the extra revenue generated will go towards improving and expanding fair offerings, ensuring that visitors have an unforgettable experience year after year.

While some may be disappointed by the price hike, many loyal fair fans understand the need for the increase and are willing to pay a little extra to support this beloved annual event. Stay tuned for more updates on what to expect at the 2025 MN State Fair!

  • As Cooper Flagg, Duke visit, Boston College basketball is the hottest ticket in town

Cooper Flagg is in town this weekend, and there are plenty of local fans who want to see him.

Boston College men’s basketball’s matchup with No. 3 Duke on Saturday at Conte Forum has long been sold out — tickets available through the university ran out in early December — with the get-in price for the cheapest pair of tickets starting at more than $165 (fees included) as of Thursday.

“Ticket interest is high and that was to be expected with a preseason top team on the schedule and with them now being ranked No. 3 in the country,” said BC associate athletic director Jim O’Neill, who oversees ticketing operations. “Also with Cooper Flagg being a New England kid, [that] has certainly raised the level of interest.”

The Blue Devils are 15-2 and off to a 7-0 start in Atlantic Coast Conference play, having dispatched Pittsburgh, Notre Dame, and Miami over the course of eight days.

Flagg, the Maine native who is projected as the top pick in June’s NBA Draft, provided the highlight in that stretch with a scintillating 42-point performance against the Fighting Irish, the most ever scored by a freshman in a men’s ACC game.

Flagg has largely delivered on the hype as a preseason All-American (having never played a collegiate game) with 18.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game for the Blue Devils, winners of 11 straight entering Saturday night.

ACC play has been far less kind to the Eagles, who have followed up an 8-3 nonleague slate with a 1-5 start to the conference schedule. BC has dropped three in a row, with a home loss to Syracuse bookended by road defeats at Georgia Tech and Notre Dame.

Duke has beaten BC in the last nine matchups between the teams, as well as taking 21 of the last 22, with the lone blip coming in an 89-84 Eagles win at Conte Forum in 2017.

And while BC has hosted plenty of talented Duke teams over the years — and Flagg’s status as June’s top pick isn’t set in stone — it’s rare that a prospect of his caliber visits Chestnut Hill. The only future No. 1 pick to face the Eagles at Conte Forum this century was Paolo Banchero in 2022. Before that, you have to go all the way back to Georgetown’s Allen Iverson in 1996.

That’s led to particularly high interest among students, the most loyal of whom will find themselves rewarded with a chance to see basketball’s next big thing up close.

“For high-demand games for both basketball and hockey, student tickets are based on attendance at earlier home games,” O’Neill explained. “Students who attend the most games have access to the high-demand games.”

Tip-off at Conte Forum is set for 8 p.m. on Saturday.

It’s official – Boston College basketball is the hottest ticket in town! With star player Cooper Flagg leading the charge and a visit from the powerhouse Duke Blue Devils on the horizon, fans are lining up to catch all the action.

Flagg has been on fire this season, averaging an impressive 20 points per game and showcasing his incredible skill on the court. His electrifying performances have not gone unnoticed, drawing in crowds from all over the city to witness his talent firsthand.

And now, with Duke coming to town, the excitement is reaching a fever pitch. The matchup between these two powerhouse teams is sure to be one for the books, and fans are clamoring for a chance to see it live.

  • Detroit’s big ticket: Commanders-Lions among most expensive ever

Ford Field is the place to be this Saturday as the top-seeded Detroit Lions host the Washington Commanders in the NFC divisional round.

Following decades of heartbreak, the Lions are roaring louder than ever, and their fans are showing up in droves.

After earning the NFC’s top seed with a 15-2 regular-season record, Detroit’s 2025 playoff debut has become the hottest ticket in franchise history, with an average sold price of $855, according to Vivid Seats.

For context, last year’s NFC Championship Game in San Francisco cost fans an average of $783. Even the Lions’ 2024 Week 15 showdown against the Buffalo Bills seems like a bargain at $475 in comparison.

The demand isn’t just a local frenzy, either. This game ranks as the third-most expensive non-Super Bowl playoff ticket since 2010. Only last year’s Philadelphia EaglesSan Francisco 49ers NFC Championship Game ($974) and the 2021 Bills-Kansas City Chiefs AFC Championship Game ($863) have seen higher demand.

With just three playoff wins in the Super Bowl era — two of which came last season — the Motor City is eager to support the Lions’ success.

Fans are ready to witness history, paying top dollar to see Lions take another step toward what they hope is their first championship since 1957 — proof that being part of the action is (nearly) priceless.

The upcoming game between the Washington Commanders and the Detroit Lions is set to be one of the most expensive tickets in Detroit’s history. Fans are eagerly anticipating this matchup, with both teams boasting talented rosters and high expectations for the season.

The Commanders-Lions game is already generating a lot of buzz, as ticket prices have skyrocketed to record levels. Many fans are willing to pay top dollar to witness this exciting showdown between two powerhouse teams.

Detroit sports fans are known for their passion and dedication, and this game is sure to be a must-see event for anyone in the area. With the Commanders and Lions both vying for a playoff spot, the stakes are high and the excitement is palpable.

If you’re looking to attend this historic game, be prepared to open your wallet. Tickets are selling fast and prices are only expected to rise as game day approaches. Don’t miss your chance to witness this epic matchup between two of the NFL’s top teams. Detroit’s big ticket event is just around the corner, so secure your seats now before it’s too late!

The inaugural cup tournament of League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) was set to kick off Wednesday to pick a team to join the newly created international competition for the globally popularly online game, its organizer said.

Ten Korean teams, including the defending world champion T1, will compete in the LCK Cup that will run through Feb. 23, according to Riot Games.

The winner of the tournament will represent the LCK at the First Stand Tournament, the fresh international competition of the game, League of Legends (LoL), to take place from the 2025 season.

Korea will host the inaugural First Stand Tournament in Seoul in March.

Meanwhile, LCK Cup will adopt the “fearless draft” rule for the first time in the Korean league of LoL as part of efforts to facilitate more diversity in team compositions and game play.

Under the fearless draft system, teams will not be allowed to play the same set of champions twice in a row.

This year’s event will be held in a group stage format, with teams divided into two groups to compete against each other.

The top three teams from each group will directly move on to the playoffs, and all of the other remaining teams will compete for three more tickets to the next round in a play-in stage. (Yonhap)
