  • Springsteen Center To Honor Smokey Robinson, Tom Morello

The Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music will salute Smokey Robinson, John Fogerty, Emmylou Harris, Tom Morello and Joe Ely at its third annual American Music Honors, which will take place April 26 at Pollak Theatre on the campus of Monmouth University in West Long Branch, N.J.

Springsteen has made music with several of the honorees, particularly Morello, who was a member of the E Street Band from 2012-2014. He’s also been a longtime champion of the influence of Robinson, who he’s said inspired him to write in more of a “pure pop songwriting” style.

    More from Spin:

“It’s fun to play with the words simply,” he said during a 2005 appearance on VH1 Storytellers. “The master of this of course was Smokey Robinson, and when I write these, I tend to think of him singing them, and it gives me an idea of the phrasing.”

Springsteen will present for Fogerty and Ely, while his wife Patti Scialfi will present for Harris and E Street Band guitarist will present to Morello. Little Steven Van Zandt will present for Robinson, and his group Disciples of Soul will serve as the house band for the ceremony.

Journalist and longtime Springsteen fan Brian Williams will host the event, tickets for which go on sale March 25. Proceeds will benefit the Springsteen Center’s mission to not only preserve artifacts related to the Boss’ career but also produce exhibitions and other programs celebrating American music in all its forms.

  • Mike Campbell: Tom Petty & the guitars I’ll never part with

“It’s a labor of love,” Mike Campbell says of his group, the Dirty Knobs. “It’s something I started doing between Heartbreakers tours to try out new songs and to keep in the groove. We would go and play clubs and do some recordings, and it just got better and better. I always had in the back of my mind it would be a great project to do if the Heartbreakers ever took a hiatus, or whatever.”

“Whatever” was, tragically, Tom Petty’s shocking death in 2017. That put the Heartbreakers — and, for a while, Campbell — in dry dock, numbed by his musical partner’s unexpected passing.

Mike Campbell: Tom Petty & the guitars I’ll never part with

Mike Campbell, the legendary guitarist for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, has had a long and storied career in rock music. Throughout his time with the band, Campbell has become known for his masterful guitar playing and his signature sound that helped define the Heartbreakers’ sound.

In a recent interview, Campbell reflected on his time with Tom Petty and the guitars that have become an integral part of his musical journey. He spoke about the special connection he has with certain guitars, and how they have played a pivotal role in shaping his sound and style.

Campbell revealed that there are a few guitars that he could never imagine parting with, no matter what. These guitars have been with him through thick and thin, and have become like old friends to him. They have a unique history and significance that make them irreplaceable in Campbell’s eyes.

One such guitar is Campbell’s beloved 1960 Fender Stratocaster, which he has played on countless recordings and performances. This guitar has a special tone and feel that Campbell has come to rely on, and he considers it an essential part of his musical arsenal.

Another guitar that Campbell holds dear is his 1959 Gibson Les Paul Junior, which he acquired early in his career. This guitar has a raw, powerful sound that has become a trademark of Campbell’s playing, and he cherishes it for its unique character and versatility.

As Campbell continues to make music and tour with his band The Dirty Knobs, he remains grateful for the guitars that have been by his side throughout his career. These instruments have been a source of inspiration and comfort to him, and he knows that they will always have a special place in his heart.

In the world of rock music, Mike Campbell is a true guitar hero, and his connection to his instruments is a testament to his passion and dedication to his craft. As he continues to make music and share his talents with the world, fans can expect to hear the unmistakable sound of Campbell’s cherished guitars ringing out loud and clear.

  • Tom Sandoval and Victoria Lee Robinson Joke Foster Dog Is ‘Practice for a Kid’

The LA Wildfires have taken so much from so many and this awful event has seen many helpers eager to assist their heartbroken neighbors. Tom Sandoval and his girlfriend, Victoria Lee Robinson, are two of these people.

Their hearts have honed in on working with the displaced animals around their afflicted city. As the news has shown many wild and domestic animals have equally lost their homes. Some have even lost their lives. To further help these innocent creatures, Tom and Victoria are now fostering one of these sweet babies in their hopefully air-conditioned home.

And this dog is helping them “practice for a kid,” they joked, making this parent cringe, as the differences are many. That said, everyone should appreciate their service to the animals of LA.

Tom Sandoval and Victoria Lee Robinson are honing their parenting skills via their foster dog

TMZ recently caught up with this not-quite-Nancy Drew-like star of The Traitors and Victoria, for an exclusive chat. In their interview, Victoria proudly showed off their sweet little foster dog. As stated, their dog is 8 weeks old. His name is Milo, and he is a bit of a handful, which helps prove their cause, as babies are handfuls, too.

However, Milo has brought these two even closer together. They have to walk, feed, bathe, love on, and play with their pup often. While caring for Milo might take up a lot of time, it has also been great for these two, they stressed, as they “both want to be parents” one day.

Dressed in a navy blue puffer coat, Milo is happily along for the ride. Speaking of rides, his foster daddy Tom even bought a harness to wear, which Milo fits comfortably into, just like a newborn.

But the LA-based Labelle Foundation loves Tom and Victoria. This non-profit has been trying to secure homes for displaced pups across LA. Thankfully, Tom and Victoria have aided their advancements. So, well done, Tom and Vic.

The Traitors is streaming on Peacock, where new episodes drop every Thursday.

TELL US – DO YOU THINK TOM AND VICTORIA ARE NESTING VIA THEIR FOSTER DOG? WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE A LITTLE SANDOVAL ON BRAVO SOON?

The post Tom Sandoval and Victoria Lee Robinson Joke Foster Dog Is ‘Practice for a Kid’ appeared first on Reality Tea.

Tom Sandoval and his girlfriend Victoria Lee Robinson recently welcomed a new addition to their family – a foster dog named Rollo. However, the couple has been joking that Rollo is just “practice for a kid” in the future.

In a recent Instagram post, Sandoval shared a photo of himself holding Rollo with the caption, “Just practicing for our future kids #fosterdog #rollosandoval.” Robinson also posted a photo of Rollo on her Instagram, jokingly referring to him as their “practice baby.”

While it may be all in good fun, it’s clear that Sandoval and Robinson have a lot of love to give to their furry friend. And who knows, maybe Rollo will end up being more than just “practice” for the couple in the future.

Regardless, it’s great to see Sandoval and Robinson opening their hearts and home to a foster dog in need. And who knows, maybe Rollo will end up being more than just “practice” for the couple in the future.

  • Tom Sandoval & Victoria Lee Robinson Prepping For Kids with a Dog

Tom Sandoval and his girlfriend, Victoria Lee Robinson, are officially fostering a brand new dog! The Vanderpump Rules musician has been open about his desire to become a father and have children sometime in the future. And now he’s getting the opportunity to test out fatherhood with Victoria by fostering a brand-new puppy.

Tom and Victoria spoke with TMZ on Jan. 29, where they introduced their new foster dog, Milo, who is only 8 weeks old. “We both want to eventually be parents, so this is a little practice for us,” Victoria said while holding the adorable, butter-yellow puppy, who was fully dressed up in an adorable puppy-sized outfit.

“Yeah, it is,” Tom agreed. “And I love getting him his cute little blue puffer jacket.”

Victoria then revealed that Tom was a little apprehensive about fostering a dog at first, but immediately showered the dog with gifts. “He pretended that he was not that into it, and then I show up the next day,” she said.

“I had a playpen, a harness,” Tom chimed in.

Victoria Lee Robinson reveals which parent the dog prefers more

Although Tom loves getting Milo gifts, the puppy has already shown some major affection towards one parent over the other. “I think he’s a momma’s boy,” Victoria said. “Milo means less cuddles for Tom because he loves to get right in the middle.”

But, Milo’s preference has helped them strengthen their relationship, according to Tom. “Yeah, he’s a bit of a momma’s boy, but it’s definitely caused us to… we definitely have to work as a team, so it’s good practice for teamwork,” Tom noted.

Tom Sandoval reveals plans for his and Victoria Lee Robinson’s future

During an October 2024 episode of his podcast, Everybody Loves Tom, The Traitors Season 3 cast member revealed that he and Victoria would be moving in together, and have already talked about having some “cute ass kids” in the future.

“I want two, I want a boy and a girl,” Victoria said.

“Yeah, that would be perfect,” Tom agreed.

That same month, the couple spoke to Us Weeklywhere they confirmed that their relationship was headed in a more permanent direction. “We are about to move in together,” she said. “We’re pretty serious.”

Even though Tom is thriving in his relationship, he is also flourishing in his career. Tom is currently on the road, touring with his band, Tom Sandoval & the Most Extras, in the midwest through March. From their new foster puppy to their new home, the future is bright for the couple and their growing family.

The show celebrates the songs of genre legend Tom Petty, played with love, faith, and originality by The Sundogs—an Atlanta-based group led by Lee and Will Haraway, Jon Harris and Kevin Thomas since 2001.

For the second consecutive year, the show will benefit Hop On A Cure, which was founded by Gainesville native and current area resident John Driskell Hopkins (Hop), and his wife Jennifer, following his diagnosis with ALS (commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease) in 2021. Hopkins is a multi-GRAMMY® Award-winning founding member and songwriter of Zac Brown Band. The Hopkins’ decided to use his public platform as an opportunity to increase ALS awareness and to raise funds to enable new research to find ways to treat, prevent and cure this fatal disease, which currently has no known cure.

Hop will also be a special guest performer with The Sundogs on Feb. 1

“Our Uncle John Wellons passed from ALS when we were in college, and we will always remember the grace and courage he showed until the very last moment of his life,” said Will Haraway. “Hop has been a friend and inspiration to us throughout his career, and his attitude and positivity definitely reminds us of that time. It’s our honor and pleasure to help support Hop On A Cure and the ALS cause.”

Hop On A Cure started in 2022 after John Driskell Hopkins of Zac Brown Band was diagnosed with ALS. ALS is consistently one of the most underfunded diseases for research. Because of that, not much significant progress has been made since Lou Gehrig passed away from the disease in 1941. The mission of the foundation is to support research to prevent, reverse, and cure ALS while raising awareness, building a compassionate community, and unleashing the healing power of hope. • The songs Tom Petty called his favourites

Unlike most people, Tom Petty knew what he wanted to do the moment he saw Elvis Presley. “I feel like a lucky man,” he once said, recalling how Presley set him on a path to destiny when he was just 11 years old. From there, music became a sanctuary, guiding him through life’s turbulence like the soft, all-knowing touch of a heavenly presence.

Despite the ease with which he fell into music’s embrace, Petty’s journey was far from smooth sailing. Venturing into music during a time when a very different game defined the industry, Petty’s battle always centred around standing out amid the chaos with music that challenged the commercialism of the era. While some were making their way with pop-rock accessibility, Petty preferred to mirror the heroes of old, willingly taking the road less travelled in dedication to his individual artistic expression.

As a result of these struggles, many of his songs reflect the mindset of an artist constantly fighting for himself, like ‘American Girl’, which was written hastily by Petty during a moment of reflection about pursuing your dreams. Noting the struggles of someone “raised on promises”, ‘American Girl’ came together in an apartment next to a freeway in Los Angeles, when the passing cars would sometimes sound like “waves crashing on the beach”.

“The words just came tumbling out very quickly,” Petty told the Los Angeles Times in 2002, “And it was the start of writing about people who are longing for something else in life, something better than they have.”

He added: “It was just a story when I wrote it. In my mind, the girl was looking for the strength to move on—and she found it. It’s one of my favourites.”

Petty also incorporates different variations of struggle in many of his other favourites, signposting his perspective on the idea through personal experiences and storytelling techniques. ‘Listen To Her Heart’, for instance, mirrored the pursuit of following your dreams in ‘American Girl’, with another narrative about a woman who follows only what her heart wants her to do and nothing else. ‘Refugee’, too, tackles the beauty of freedom and choice as “a reaction to the pressures of the music business”.

Petty wrote the song when he grew “angry” with ABC Records after they tried to sell his contract to MCA Records without him knowing, using his urge to kick back in any way he could with a song about being resilient against the music industry’s greed. “I was in this defiant mood,” he said, “I wasn’t so conscious of it then, but I can look back and see what was happening.” While this came from a real, almost tangible experience for Petty, others came from the struggles of others, like Janis Joplin, who inspired him to create ‘The Waiting’ about not knowing whether your dreams will come true.

While these threads also define the sounds and stories of others, like ‘Straight Into Darkness’, ‘Southern Accents’, ‘The Best of Everything’, and ‘You Don’t Know How It Feels’, the most enigmatic seems to be Room At The Top’, which temporarily diverted from Petty’s usual directness to explore something more ambiguously charming. Navigating the perils of disillusionment, the track was so dark about Petty’s struggles that he admitted he “can’t even play it.”

Still, much like the other songs, it became a snapshot in time, reminding Petty of the power of remaining authentic even when compositions reflect fleeting emotions, memories, or momentary challenges. Ultimately, this made his music stand out, even when the music industry sought to venture in an entirely different sonic direction. Instead, Petty remained poised at all corners, ready to expose the inner workings of his genius mind.

Tom Petty was known for his incredible music career, with hits like “Free Fallin’” and “American Girl” solidifying his place as a rock legend. But what were the songs that Tom Petty himself considered his favorites? Let’s take a look at some of the tunes that held a special place in his heart.

    1. “I Will Always Love You” by Dolly Parton – Petty once described this song as a perfect example of a great song that doesn’t need any production tricks to shine. He admired the raw emotion and simplicity of the lyrics.

    2. “You Send Me” by Sam Cooke – Petty was a huge fan of Cooke’s soulful voice and the timeless quality of this classic love song. He often cited it as one of his all-time favorite tracks.

    3. “Maggie May” by Rod Stewart – Petty appreciated the storytelling and honesty in Stewart’s music, and this song in particular resonated with him on a personal level.

    4. “Wildflowers” by Tom Petty – Of course, Petty also had a soft spot for his own music. “Wildflowers” was a song that he held dear, as it reflected his introspective side and his love of nature.

    5. “Don’t Let Me Down” by The Beatles – Petty was a lifelong Beatles fan, and this track from their “Let It Be” album was one that he often praised for its emotional depth and powerful vocals.

These are just a few examples of the songs that Tom Petty considered his favorites. His eclectic taste and deep appreciation for great songwriting are evident in his choices, and they serve as a testament to his enduring legacy as a musician.

  • Tom McKibbin: Northern Ireland man confirms move to Saudi-backed LIV Golf

McKibbin becomes the second player from Northern Ireland to make the switch to LIV Golf, with 2010 US Open winner Graeme McDowell already part of a circuit that has several other major winners.

Those include current US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau, plus Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Cameron Smith and Sergio Garcia.

The Holywood golfer has qualified for this year’s Open Championship, which will be held at Royal Portrush.

McKibbin turned professional in April 2021 and won his first DP World Tour event in June 2023 at the Porsche European Open in Germany. He also lost in a play-off at last year’s Italian Open.

His decision could jeopardise his prospects of securing a Ryder Cup debut this season, even though he was part of the Great Britain & Ireland team at the recent Team Cup in Abu Dhabi which Europe skipper Luke Donald used to look at player options for the biennial match against USA.

Speaking two weeks ago, former world number one McIlroy said he would find it “a little disappointing” if McKibbin did move to LIV.

“If I were in his position, which I think I have been before, and had his potential I wouldn’t make that decision,” McIlroy said.

“But I’m not him. I’m not in his shoes. He’s a grown man at this point and can make his own decisions.”

McIlroy added that he would continue to be a “fan” of the 22-year-old and “help him in whatever way I can”.

Tom McKibbin, a promising young golfer from Northern Ireland, has confirmed his move to the Saudi-backed LIV Golf league. The 19-year-old rising star has shown great potential in the world of golf, and his decision to join the controversial new league has raised eyebrows in the golfing community.

McKibbin, who turned professional in 2020, has already made a name for himself on the junior circuit and is seen as one of the most promising young talents in the sport. His decision to join LIV Golf is seen as a bold move, as the league has faced criticism for its association with Saudi Arabia and its alleged attempts to disrupt the traditional golfing landscape.

Despite the controversy surrounding LIV Golf, McKibbin has expressed his excitement about the opportunity to compete against some of the best players in the world and showcase his skills on a global stage. Many fans and experts are eager to see how he will fare in the new league and whether he can continue his impressive rise in the world of professional golf.

As McKibbin prepares to embark on this new chapter in his career, there is no doubt that he will continue to be a player to watch in the golfing world. His talent, determination, and ambition make him a formidable competitor, and his move to LIV Golf will undoubtedly add an extra layer of intrigue to his already promising career.
