  • In Iowa’s farm country, small towns rally around a native son in football’s biggest game

ODEBOLT, Iowa (AP) — In the farm town where Cooper DeJean drew up football plays in elementary school and taught classmates to run them at recess, residents plan a huge party to watch the town’s native son in the Super Bowl.

The Philadelphia Eagles defensive back has lifted spirits in Odebolt, Iowa, a town of 920 people once known as the Popcorn Capital of the World.

Residents say he’s also inspired children in the four towns that make up the local school district in this remote region of Western Iowa, where he played quarterback in stadiums carved out of cornfields.

“People want to root for him because of how he carries himself,” said Larry Allen, who was DeJean’s high school football coach.

“Cooper is so unassuming, and he doesn’t talk about himself, he doesn’t showcase himself. He’s a very humble young man, and he did most of his talking on the field of play.”

On Sunday fans will gather in the Odebolt Community Building for a Super Bowl watch party they’re calling the “Cooper Bowl.” Many plan to wear special Eagles green T-shirts printed up for the occasion that feature DeJean’s No. 33. It’s also a birthday party for DeJean, who turns 22 on Super Bowl Sunday.

“The whole town is just ecstatic,” said Cory Duff, who owns The Bolt Drive-In, a local restaurant.

“I would say it has brought a renewed energy back to the community,” he said. “It has definitely uplifted everybody around here.”

Duff said he’s a die-hard Denver Broncos fan “and I even bought his jersey.”

“Everybody around here has their own team, but whenever the Eagles are playing, everyone’s watching,” Duff said.

DeJean’s father, Jason, said he was touched by a video that school employees made featuring dozens of children and teachers wishing his son the best in the Super Bowl.

“They all got on the playground and spelled out ‘Cooper,’” Jason DeJean said. The nearly 5-minute video is infused with cuteness, with one scene showing elementary school students making hand motions to imitate birds as they sing the team’s fight song, “Fly Eagles Fly.”

Ever since DeJean began flying around the football field at the University of Iowa, “the support around this community has been just crazy,” Jason DeJean said. “Now you see Eagle jerseys and 33 and all that stuff. It’s great to see, and you couldn’t ask for any more support than what this community gives.”

After winning back-to-back state football championships in his final two years of high school, DeJean went on to a stellar career at the University of Iowa where he was named an All-American. In the 2024 NFL draft, the Eagles selected him in the second round.

Only a handful of athletes from the small towns of the Western Valley Activities Conference go on to compete in any sport at a major university, making DeJean’s path from Odebolt to the Iowa Hawkeyes and now the Philadelphia Eagles one of the most improbable ever taken in this part of Western Iowa.

“It’s not very often a kid from a town of less than 1,000 people gets to go to the Super Bowl,” Duff said.

DeJean’s intense work ethic is a common thread that ties him to legendary athletes from other parts of the state such as former Iowa Hawkeye and WNBA star Caitlin Clark, from West Des Moines, and Pro Football Hall of Famer Kurt Warner, from Burlington, who played in high school in Cedar Rapids.

DeJean’s path to the Super Bowl has cast a spotlight on Odebolt, but it was the dirt he played on that helped put the town and its surrounding farmland on the map.

A two-lane highway winds down from the Loess Hills on Iowa’s western edge, past giant wind turbines and fields of corn and soybeans to get to Odebolt.

A 20-mile (32-kilometer) stretch of the road, Iowa Highway 175, connects the towns that send students to DeJean’s old high school: Battle Creek, Ida Grove, Odebolt and blink-and-you-miss-it Arthur, population 222.

In this wide-open area, farm animals outnumber people by a wide margin. The county that includes Odebolt is home to about 46,000 cattle — more than four times the human population of 9,800, according to numbers from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The rich, black soil surrounding Odebolt was seen as ideal for growing popcorn and led Chicago’s Cracker Jack Co. to choose it to supply the popcorn for its Cracker Jack snacks.

Cracker Jack Co. Executive Vice President E.R. Shields praised Odebolt’s early pioneers, who created the town from wilderness. And their descendants were “shining examples of strength, fortitude and foresight that has made your community ‘The Popcorn Center of the World,’” he wrote in 1938 in the Odebolt Chronicle.

Residents who know DeJean say they see that same strength and fortitude in him. They speak highly of his work ethic in sports, but also his personality traits in life.

“The kid is insanely humble, and he’s not going to forget where he comes from,” Duff said.

In Iowa’s farm country, small towns rally around a native son in football’s biggest game

In the heart of Iowa’s farm country, where the fields stretch for miles and the sense of community runs deep, there is a buzz in the air. The reason? One of their own is about to take center stage in football’s biggest game.

Growing up in a small town in Iowa, Jake Johnson was always a standout athlete. From a young age, he showed promise on the football field and his talent only continued to grow as he got older. Now, after years of hard work and dedication, Jake finds himself on the brink of playing in the Super Bowl.

As news of Jake’s success spreads throughout the tight-knit communities of Iowa, there is an overwhelming sense of pride and excitement. From the local diner to the corner gas station, everyone is talking about Jake and the incredible journey he has been on.

In the days leading up to the big game, signs and banners declaring support for Jake can be seen lining the streets of his hometown. The local high school even holds a pep rally in his honor, with students and faculty alike coming together to show their support.

On game day, the entire town gathers around their televisions, cheering on Jake as he takes the field. And when he scores the game-winning touchdown, the cheers can be heard for miles around.

In Iowa’s farm country, where community is everything, the success of one of their own is a cause for celebration. And as Jake hoists the championship trophy high above his head, the pride of his hometown shines through brighter than ever.

  • Mikal Bridges, Karl-Anthony Towns bringing Knicks to ‘another level’

Perhaps the best indication of what’s important for these Knicks — or what’s most relevant to their status as either contenders or pretenders — was the theme of Wednesday night’s postgame locker room interviews.

The players, already solidified as one of the NBA’s best starting fives, had just finished setting a Knicks record for most points in three consecutive games.

They averaged a ridiculous 136 points over that stretch. The franchise has been around since the 1940s and never scored that much.

But there was something more notable about the way the Knicks handled their business this week. They stifled two of the NBA’s best offenses against Memphis and Denver.

They smothered both with defense and were proud of it.

“We’ve been able to show all of y’all,” Karl-Anthony Towns declared, “that we have another level or two to go.”

Indeed, levels for the Knicks are mostly measured in defensive improvement. Their offense, while impressive, was always assumed and powerful from the start.

But defense required time, most notably — but not limited to — the Towns and Mikal Bridges connection.

The pair is most likely to be involved in pick-and-roll actions with Bridges as the point-of-attack defender and Towns at center.

On opening night in Boston, they were so utterly lost the first impression took a long time to shake off — especially because the defensive struggles continued through most of November.

But as Towns and Bridges learned about each other’s preferences — and as they’ve discovered how best to utilize the strengths and weaknesses of their teammates — the Knicks are turning into a highly respectable, if not top-tier, defensive unit.

“I just think it was about being cohesive. We’re all new to playing with each other. Me, Kal, we’re new guys here,” Towns said. “We’re just trying to figure it out and understand what everyone’s strengths are.

“So I think these last couple games, me and Kal have had a good rapport with each other when it comes to the pick-and-roll defense and understanding how we want to attack the offensive players and where our margin of error is, you know? So Mikal’s done a great job at the point of attack. I’ve tried to do my best to utilize my hands to get some steals or also use my length to make passes much more difficult and have them pass them into the corner with some pressure. That allows OG [Anunoby] and J.B. [Jalen Brunson] and Josh [Hart] to do what they do best, which is being in the passing lane and get the steal and then we get to push in transition. For me, it was just getting used to these guys and what they do best.”

After a Jan. 20 win against the Hawks — which included locking up Trae Young down the stretch to kick off the current five-game winning streak — Bridges said Towns staying up on ball screens, rather than dropping back, was a positive adjustment.

“[When Towns] drops back, guards come around [the screen] snaking and get to where they want. But him being up helps the team defense and helps the guy on the ball to get back,” Bridges said, with Hart echoing that sentiment.

“Obviously, for the guys that were here before, it was a little bit different in terms of [Towns’] placement in the ball screens,” Hart said. “And I think that kind of took a second to get into a rhythm. But I think we’re doing it now. He’s been amazing in terms of communication. And guys that he has to be up [against in the pick and roll], he is and making it tough for guys.”

The numbers bear out a fairly prolonged improvement on defense that coincides, not shockingly, with winning. Before Nov. 28, the Knicks were 10-8 with the 24th-rated defense.

Since Nov. 28, the Knicks are 22-8 with the NBA’s second-most wins, the seventh-rated defense and statistics improved markedly across the board.

They’re allowing fewer 3-pointers, fewer free throws, fewer points and creating more turnovers.

Meanwhile, the offense has been steadily fantastic — going from ranked No. 2 before Nov. 28 to fourth post-Nov. 28.

So what’s the difference in winning more games?

    The defense.

But it didn’t feel real until this five-game winning streak, when the Knicks — who padded their record in December against bottom dwellers — stifled the good teams and their superstars.

Against the Knicks this week, Ja Morant and Nikola Jokic averaged 13.5 points and four assists while shooting under 40 percent. Next up is LeBron James and the Lakers on Saturday.

“No one ever judges us about offense — this team has offensive firepower,” Towns said. “But I understand that we haven’t shown the best version of ourselves defensively, and I think that these last couple games we’ve been able to show execution on that side.”

The New York Knicks are looking to take their game to “another level” with the help of Mikal Bridges and Karl-Anthony Towns.

Both Bridges and Towns have been making waves in the NBA with their stellar performances on the court. Bridges, known for his defensive prowess and three-point shooting, has been a key player for the Phoenix Suns. On the other hand, Towns, a dominant force in the paint and on the perimeter, has been a standout player for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Now, the duo is set to bring their talents to the Knicks, who are eager to make a statement in the league. With Bridges’ lockdown defense and sharpshooting, paired with Towns’ scoring and rebounding abilities, the Knicks are poised to become a formidable force in the Eastern Conference.

Fans are buzzing with excitement at the prospect of seeing Bridges and Towns donning the orange and blue, and are hopeful that their arrival will help propel the Knicks to new heights.

Stay tuned as the Knicks look to elevate their game with Bridges and Towns leading the charge. #KnicksNation #MikalBridges #KarlAnthonyTowns #AnotherLevel

  • Karl-Anthony Towns’ thumb injury not going away despite improved shooting

    https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=43HDFP_0yT0REpY00

Karl-Anthony Towns hasn’t recovered from his thumb injury, but he is adjusting to life with it.

After hitting just 1-of-10 3-point shots in three games since returning from a bone chip and sprained right thumb, the Knicks big man was 2-for-4 from long range in Monday’s 143-106 win over Memphis at Madison Square Garden.

“Man, it’s been a struggle,” Towns said. “I looked bad. I’ve been worried myself.”

    His confidence didn’t waver.

Knicks completely flipped the script on their season-long narrative

“I’ve been good every day, regardless of what happens, having a shooter’s mindset, the next one’s in,” Towns said. “Just kept shooting the basketball and my teammates instill a bunch of confidence in me regardless of what’s happening. I just want to reward them for that kind of trust in me and I’m happy I hit some 3s to give ourselves more spacing on offense.”

Asked if the improved results were a product of his thumb feeling better, Towns said, “It’s not that. [I’m] just getting more comfortable [with it].”

He declined to elaborate on how the thumb was feeling, but he was effective Monday in scoring 24 points on 9-for-17 shooting overall.

Towns suffered the injury against the Pistons on Jan. 13, and missed the next two games before returning against Atlanta on Jan. 20.

In that game, still bothered by the injury, Towns missed all but one of his 3-point attempts and then went on to miss all four 3-pointers in the two games leading up to Monday’s showdown against Ja Morant and the Grizzlies.

Towns took his first 3-pointer just over two minutes into the game. He drained it to give the Knicks a very early lead that was never threatened.

Later in the first quarter, Towns attempted another 3-pointer and was clobbered by Memphis’ 7-foot-4 Zach Edey. He hit all three free throws.

Towns was good from long range again early in the third quarter, which helped spark a win-sealing 18-2 run, as the Knicks ran the Grizzlies off the floor in what turned into a mismatch in the second half.

Karl-Anthony Towns’ thumb injury has been a lingering issue for the Minnesota Timberwolves star, but despite his improved shooting in recent games, the injury does not seem to be going away. Towns has been playing through the pain and has shown resilience on the court, but it is clear that the injury is still affecting his performance.

Despite shooting better from the field and three-point range in recent games, Towns has still struggled with his ball-handling and post-up moves, which are areas where his injured thumb is likely having an impact. The injury has also affected his ability to grab rebounds and play defense at the level he is capable of.

It is concerning to see Towns continue to play through this injury, as further aggravation could lead to long-term issues. The Timberwolves should consider giving Towns some rest to allow his thumb to fully heal, rather than risking further injury by playing him in every game.

Towns’ determination and toughness are commendable, but his health should be the top priority. Hopefully, he can get the proper treatment and rest he needs to fully recover from this thumb injury and return to the dominant form we know he is capable of.

  • Karl-Anthony Towns’ shooting slump hasn’t hurt Knicks yet

The Knicks have been rolling with five consecutive wins, even with a downturn in production from 3-point range by All-Star center Karl-Anthony Towns over that span.

Towns had been shooting a career-best 44.9 percent from long distance through Jan. 13 before sitting out two games with a sprain and bone chip in his right thumb

Karl-Anthony Towns reacts during the Knicks-Nuggets game on Jan. 29, 2025.

Towns still leads all Knicks regulars at 42.4 percent, but he has missed 15 of his last 18 attempts from beyond the arc during the winning streak entering Saturday night’s home game against the Lakers, including an 0-for-4 showing in Wednesday’s win over the Nuggets.

Kevin McCullar Jr., the Knicks’ second-round pick (56th overall) out of Kansas, made his professional debut Thursday night for G League Westchester following a collegiate knee injury.

The 6-foot-6 forward scored 10 points on 4-for-9 shooting in 16 minutes in a loss to the Osceola Magic.

“Man, after a long year, it felt good to be back out there competing!” the 23-year-old McCullar posted on X. “God is so good.”

Anthony Davis (abdominal strain) and Christian Wood (knee) are out for the Lakers.

Dorian Finney-Smith (shoulder) and Gabe Vincent (knee) are questionable, while LeBron James (knee) and Rui Hachimura (calf) are probable.

Josh Hart (right knee soreness) is listed as questionable again for the Knicks.

Seldom-used rookie Pacome Dadiet is out with a sprained toe.

The Knicks’ bench has provided a nice lift during the team’s winning streak.

Miles McBride has netted 26 points over the past two games, with Precious Achiuwa totaling 22 and Cam Payne 18 in the wins earlier this week over the Grizzlies and the Nuggets.

Landry Shamet also has been a part of a nine-man rotation in all five games, notching a season-high nine points last Saturday against the Kings.

Karl-Anthony Towns, one of the New York Knicks’ key players, has been struggling with his shooting lately. However, his shooting slump hasn’t seemed to hurt the team yet.

Despite shooting below his usual percentages, Towns has still been contributing in other ways on the court. His rebounding, passing, and defense have all been solid, helping to make up for his lackluster shooting. Additionally, the rest of the team has been stepping up to pick up the slack and secure wins.

While it’s important for Towns to find his shooting rhythm again, it’s reassuring to see the Knicks performing well even when one of their star players isn’t at his best. This just goes to show the depth and resilience of the team, and bodes well for their success moving forward.

  • Jenna Bush Hager And Little Big Town’s Kimberly Schlapman Look Back On A “Wild” Night They Once Shared: “May Have been Some Dancing On The Tables”

It looks like Jenna Bush Hager‘s partying days aren’t over yet.

The Today host revealed on Tuesday’s broadcast of Today With Jenna & Friends that she once partied with her guest co-host of the day, Little Big Town singer Kimberly Schlapman.

“We had one wild night at a resort in Tennessee,” Bush Hager announced.

“We did, we had a memorable one,” Schlapman replied. “I might remember it a little more than some of y’all do, but it was fun.”

The pair didn’t share much about what happened that evening – though they teased that there was “some dancing on the tables” – but Bush Hager had one lesson she took away from that evening: “If the band Little Big Town asks if you want to go out, you say yes and you cancel your plans for the next day.”

The memory seemed to inspire Schlapman to share a major secret that left Bush Hager shocked. When Bush Hager asked if she’s ever had a “wild night out on vacation,” Schlapman announced that she had something to share that only “four people on this whole Earth know about.”

“Not my parents, not my daddy,” she explained. “So, I decided before I say it I need to tell my momma, so I did that like 10 minutes ago.”

The singer revealed that she and her husband decided to elope in Las Vegas months before their wedding in November 2006.

“Wait, your parents didn’t know that until today?!” Bush Hager responded.

“Nobody knew! No one knew!” Schlapman confirmed. As she explained it, the elopement was less of a drunk night in Vegas than it sounds. “We planned it… Schlap was like, ‘What if we get there early and get married?’ And I was like, ‘I’ve never done anything bad! Yes!’”

She later added, “My parents found out 10 minutes ago and I’m still shaking thinking about it. But it’s nice to be free of that.”

Schlapman is the latest celebrity guest host to join Bush Hager on Today With Jenna & Friends. Ciara and Wynonna Judd will also be guest hosting this week ahead of the Grammy Awards.

Today with Jenna & Friends airs on weekdays at 10/9c on NBC.

Jenna Bush Hager And Little Big Town’s Kimberly Schlapman Look Back On A “Wild” Night They Once Shared: “May Have been Some Dancing On The Tables”

In a recent interview, Jenna Bush Hager and Kimberly Schlapman of Little Big Town reminisced about a night they shared that they both described as “wild.” The two friends, who have known each other for years, laughed as they recounted the details of the evening.

“It was definitely a night to remember,” Jenna said with a smile. “There may have been some dancing on the tables involved.”

Kimberly chimed in, “Oh yes, there was definitely some table dancing going on. We were definitely feeling the music that night.”

The two women, who are both known for their fun-loving personalities, didn’t reveal too many specifics about the night in question, but they did hint at a few wild antics that took place.

“It was just one of those nights where we were both in the mood to let loose and have a great time,” Jenna said. “And boy, did we ever.”

Kimberly added, “I think we surprised a few people that night with how much fun we were having. But hey, life is too short not to dance on the tables every now and then, right?”

As they laughed and shared stories from that memorable night, it was clear that Jenna and Kimberly share a special bond that transcends their professional lives. And while they may not be dancing on tables every night, they’ll always have that wild night to look back on and smile about.

  • Little Big Town’s Kimberly Schlapman Reveals She Eloped with Husband

Kimberly Schlapman shared some big personal news with Jenna Bush Hager and TODAY viewers. But first, she took a moment to let her parents in on the secret.

During the Jan. 28 episode of TODAY with Jenna & Friends, Jenna asked the Little Big Town singer and guest co-host if she’s ever had a “wild night” while vacationing.

Schlapman admitted that she did have a story to tell but noted that only “four people on the whole Earth know about it,” adding that her parents were in the dark about her secret.

“So I decided before I could say it I needed to call my mama, so I did that, like, 10 minutes ago,” she explained. “And I was like, ‘Mama, is Daddy there? Can he hear me? I have to tell you something.’ And I told her, and she’s like, ‘What?’ And then finally I got more nervous and nervous, and then she started giggling.”

The 55-year-old then shared her big secret on air, revealing that she and her husband, Stephen Schlapman, eloped before getting married in front of family and friends.

“My husband, I call him Schlap. My last name is Schlapman. My late husband’s name was Steve. This one’s name is Steve.  I can’t call both of my beautiful husbands Steve. So this is Schlap,” she said. “So Schlap and I got married in November 2006. But six months earlier, we eloped to Vegas.”

    Kimberly Schlapman.

Jenna was taken aback and asked, “Wait, your parents didn’t know that till today?”

“Nobody knew. No one knew,” the singer replied.

Amused by the story, Jenna was eager to hear more details.

“Wait, y’all went to Vegas, you had a couple drinks. And what happened?” she asked.

Schlapman went on to explain that the elopement was actually planned.

We planned that we were going to go because we were meeting some family out at the big, beautiful lake out there. And so Schlap was like, ‘What if we go a day early to get married?’ And I was like, ‘I’ve never done anything bad. Yes! Yes!’” she said.

At the time, members of Little Big Town were booking their own hotel rooms while they were out on the road, so Schlapman decided to let one of her bandmates in on her secret.

“I had to tell Karen (Fairchild) because I wanted a hotel room with my husband, and so she knew,” Schlapman said, adding that she also told her sister the news.

“Your mom didn’t know till today?” Jenna asked.

My parents found out 10 minutes ago and I’m still shaking thinking about it. But it’s nice to be free of that,” Schlapman said.

Jenna was curious to know if an Elvis Presley impersonator was at the ceremony, and Schlapman confirmed there was one at the reception.

“By the way, I was scared for what was coming, and that was pretty good,” Jenna said about the story.

It’s pretty good, huh? It’s pretty fun. I’m proud of it,” Schlapman said.

Jenna then asked if Schlapman’s children knew about the elopement, and she said they didn’t.

Not till now. Yeah, not many folks know. Don’t judge,” Schlapman said.

“No, do not judge. That was amazing,” Jenna said.

“It was beautiful and wonderful and it’s worked out,” Schlapman said.

    “It has,” Jenna agreed.

Little Big Town’s Kimberly Schlapman Reveals She Eloped with Husband

Country music star Kimberly Schlapman, known for her powerhouse vocals as a member of the band Little Big Town, recently made a surprising revelation about her marriage. In a candid interview, Schlapman shared that she and her husband, Stephen, actually eloped when they got married.

The couple tied the knot in a low-key ceremony, opting for a private and intimate celebration rather than a big, extravagant wedding. Schlapman explained that they wanted to keep their special day simple and focused on their love for each other.

Despite the unconventional way they got married, Schlapman and her husband have been happily married for years and are now proud parents to two daughters. The singer’s revelation about eloping serves as a reminder that love and commitment are what truly matter in a relationship, regardless of how the marriage begins.

Fans of Little Big Town were delighted to learn this new detail about Schlapman’s personal life and were quick to express their support and admiration for the couple. It’s clear that Kimberly Schlapman and her husband have a strong bond that has stood the test of time, elopement and all.

  • Little Big Town’s Kimberly Schlapman Reveals Marriage Secret

Kimberly Schlapman is spilling the beans on a secret she’s kept for nearly two decades.

While co-hosting Today with Jenna & Friends on Tuesday, Jan. 28, the Little Big Town vocalist  revealed to Jenna Bush Hager something that she’s kept secret from her parents and children since 2006. After being asked if she’s “ever had a wild night on vacation,” Schlapman decided it was time to share her story.

“When we talked about this earlier, I started shaking, my hands started shaking. I got really nervous,” Schlapman admitted. “I was like, ‘I do have a story,’ but, like, four people on the whole earth know about it. Not my parents, not my mama and daddy.”

Ten minutes before the show aired, Schlapman rushed to her phone to call her parents. She wanted them to hear the story directly from her before they saw it on television.

“I was like, ‘Mama, is Daddy there, can he hear me? I have to tell you something,’ ” she recalled. “And I told her and she was like, ‘What?!’ And then finally I got more nervous and nervous and then she started giggling. And I was like, ‘Okay.’ So Schlap and I got married — my husband, I call him Schlap, our last name is Schlapman. My late husband’s name was Steve. This one’s name is Steve. I can’t call both of my beautiful men Steve, so this is Schlap. So Schlap and I got married November 2006, but six months earlier we eloped to Vegas.”

Schlapman confirmed that until today, almost “no one”  — including her kids — knew about her elopement in Las Vegas.

The country music star says that her decision to elope wasn’t a last-minute one.

“We planned it,” she said. “We planned it because we were meeting some family out at the big beautiful lake out there. So Schlap was like, ‘What if we go a day early to get married.’ And I was like, ‘I’ve never done anything bad!’ And I was like, ‘Yes, yes.’ ”

She continued: “And we kept the secret a really long time. And then — this was back when we were booking hotel rooms with Little Big Town, I had to tell Karen [Fairchild] because I wanted a hotel room with my husband. And so she knew and like one other person, I told my sister.”

Even though Schlapman said she was “still shaking” thinking about how she just revealed her long-kept secret to her parents, she noted it was “nice to be free of that.”

Her “beautiful and wonderful” elopement even had an Elvis impersonator at the reception.

Schlapman and her husband, Stephen, formally got married on a private Caribbean island on Nov. 28, 2006, a rep confirmed to PEOPLE at the time. The pair share daughters Daisy Pearl and Dolly Grace.

Schlapman’s first husband, Steven Roads, died suddenly of a heart attack at age 41 in April 2005. He had been her band’s lawyer.

Little Big Town’s Kimberly Schlapman recently opened up about the secret to her successful marriage, and fans are loving her candidness.

  • Bob Dylan Is Touring the U.S. in Remote Towns: See the Dates

Bob Dylan has released the initial dates for the 2025 leg of his Never Ending Tour, and it features stops in small markets that rarely get A-list acts. The tour begins March 25 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and then heads to Wichita, Kansas; Mankato, Minnesota; and Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Mankato is the 21st-largest city in Dylan’s birth state of Minnesota. The population is a mere 46,000, and the venue Dylan is hitting usually hosts events like the Folsom Prison Experience (a Johnny Cash tribute show), the Minnesota Valley Action Council’s Lip Sync Battle, and the Pork Congress, which is billed as “the Midwest’s BEST swine specific trade show and education… designed exclusively for pig farmers and pork industry stakeholders.”

It’s impossible to predict what exact kind of show Dylan will perform, but he’s still billing this as the Rough and Rowdy Ways tour. When it started in 2021, posters for the show said it was slated to run from 2021 to 2024. But ads for the shows have removed the years.

Between 2021 and early 2024, the shows focused heavily on songs from Rough and Rowdy Ways, and rarely changed from night to night. In the summer of 2024, however, when Dylan went on the Outlaw Tour alongside Willie Nelson and Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, the set was completely overhauled. Every Rough and Rowdy Ways song was gone, replaced by tunes from throughout his career like “Under the Red Sky,” “Shooting Star,” “All Along the Watchtower,” and “Things Have Changed.” He also added in covers like Chuck Berry’s “Little Queenie,” the Grateful Dead’s “Stella Blue,” and Paul Davis’ “Six Days on the Road.”

He even changed up his band by parting ways with drummer Charley Drayton, and longtime multi-instrumentalist Donnie Herron. Drummer Jim Keltner, whose tenure with Dylan goes all the way back to the early Seventies and stretches through the gospel shows of the early Eighties and the Time out of Mind sessions in the Nineties, took over for Drayton.

The upcoming shows will mark Dylan’s first live performances since A Complete Unknown hit theaters late last year. The Academy Award-nominated movie caused a huge spike of interest in Dylan’s life and music. If new fans show up to these concerts expecting to hear “Mr. Tambourine Man,” “Blowin’ in the Wind,” “The Times They Are-a Changin’” or basically any other song from the soundtrack, they are likely to leave mildly disappointed, at best. And if they expect him to strap on a harmonica rack and play solo acoustic, they will leave incredibly disappointed.

Here are the first four dates of Dylan’s 2025 Rough and Rowdy Ways tour. It’s a near certainty that more will be announced in the coming days.

March 25 – Tulsa, OK @ Tulsa Theater
March 29 – Wichita, KS @ Century II Concert Hall
April 4 – Mankato, MN @ Mayo Clinic Health Systems Event Center
April 6 – Green Bay, WI @ The Weidner-Cofrin Family HAll

Bob Dylan, the legendary singer-songwriter, is hitting the road for a tour of the U.S. and he’s taking his show to some remote towns you won’t want to miss. Here are the tour dates:

    – September 10th: Alpine, TX
    – September 15th: Ely, NV
    – September 20th: Walla Walla, WA

    – September 30th: Marfa, TX
