  • Done Deals – Young Duo Arrive in Rome To Complete Lazio Transfers

Lazio have sealed deals for Reda Belahyane and Oliver Provstgaard who have both landed in Rome ahead of their imminent transfers.

The Biancocelesti spent the entire January transfer session hunting a young midfielder. But after recently missing out on Torino’s new signing Cesare Casadei following a back-and-forth transfer saga, they reverted to their original target, Belahyane. The Italian capital side pounced on their good relationships with Hellas Verona to strike a swift agreement.

As reported by Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the 20-year-old French Morrocan was spotted in Rome as he arrives to finalise a deadline-day transfer on Monday. The young deep-lying playmaker is an OGC Nice youth product who joined the Gialloblu a year ago for less than €1 million and made his Serie A debut under Marco Baroni.

Belahyane rose to prominence this season with Paolo Zanetti in charge, cementing himself as a regular feature for Verona. Hence, he should cost Lazio €12-13 million.

Moreover, Claudio Lotito and Angelo Fabiani have also been seeking a new central defender, and have finally found their man in Provstgaard. According to Sky Sport DE journalist Florian Plettenberg, the 21-year-old Dane has also arrived in the Italian capital following an agreement between Lazio and Vejle on a tranfer fee of €4 million.

The young centre-back is blessed with an impressive physical frame and as well as technical attributes, rendering him a modern-day defender. Since both players are under the age of 22, neither will warrant a spot on the club’s congested Serie A squad list.

Lazio fans, get ready to welcome two exciting young talents to the club as they arrive in Rome to complete their transfers!

The first player is a highly-rated midfielder who has been making waves in his home country. Known for his technical ability and vision on the pitch, he is expected to bring a new dimension to Lazio’s midfield.

The second player is a promising forward who has been turning heads with his speed and skill. With a keen eye for goal, he is set to bolster Lazio’s attacking options and provide some much-needed firepower.

Both players are eager to prove themselves in Serie A and help Lazio achieve their goals this season. Stay tuned for the official announcements as these deals are finalized and the players are officially unveiled as Lazio’s newest signings. Exciting times ahead for the Biancocelesti! #ForzaLazio #DoneDeals

  • John Mateer transfers to Oklahoma – The Daily Evergreen

John Mateer transfers to Oklahoma – The Daily Evergreen

Former Coug QB John Mateer is officially headed to the University of Oklahoma, where he will join former WSU offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle as a Sooner.

He announced his decision with a post on his instagram account captioned “Santa came early and he’s a sooner.”

Mateer was reportedly pursued by the University of North Carolina and the University of Miami. UNC, now coached by the NFL legend Bill Belichick, reportedly offered Mateer the largest NIL deal in NCAA history, according to Chris Hummer of CBS Sports.

“I think the message was that he was the top quarterback in the portal,” Mateer’s high school coach Kendrick Brown told 247sports.

Mateer apparently was pursued aggressively by UNC, as Belichick searched for his QB of the future. He was face-timed by NFL legends Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski in an effort to convince Mateer to make the move to the east coast.

Oklahoma reportedly countered with a call from Baker Mayfield, former Heisman-winning quarterback and current Tampa Bay Buccaneers starter. Mateer has been compared to Mayfield, as the two passers play with a similar aggressive style.

According to John Canzano, Auburn was also interested, having offered Mateer an NIL of over $1.5 million in October.

However, the pitch from Oklahoma ultimately won out. Mateer will reportedly earn over $3 million, and the allure of living close to home certainly must have helped. Mateer comes from Little Elm, Texas, which is just two-and-a-half hours south of Norman, where the University of Oklahoma is located.

Now headed to the SEC alongside his former OC and QB coach, Mateer still has a lot to prove but will be surrounded by a talented roster that has the resources to help him reach the next level.

John Mateer, a standout athlete from Washington State University, has officially announced his transfer to the University of Oklahoma. This news comes as a shock to many fans and teammates, as Mateer was a key player for the Cougars.

Mateer, a talented quarterback, cited the opportunity to play for a top-tier program like Oklahoma as a major factor in his decision to transfer. He expressed his gratitude for his time at WSU and is looking forward to the new challenges and opportunities that await him at Oklahoma.

Many fans are disappointed to see Mateer leave WSU, but are excited to see what he can accomplish at Oklahoma. The Daily Evergreen will continue to follow Mateer’s journey and provide updates on his progress as he transitions to his new team.

  • What Alabama coordinators said about incoming transfers

What Alabama coordinators said about incoming transfers

Alabama has arrived in Tampa for next week’s ReliaQuest Bowl, and took the practice field today in preparation for the matchup with Michigan on New Year’s Eve.

After practice, reporters met with offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan and defensive coordinator Kane Wommack, and asked them about a few of the Crimson Tide’s incoming transfers for next season.

    WR Isaiah Horton

Wide receiver Isaiah Horton transferred in after a productive season at Miami in 2024. He was one of the Hurricanes’ top pass-catchers, hauling in 56 catches on the year for 616 yards and five touchdowns.

“We’re always trying to add quality players to our roster. Guys that add competition, guys that have experience, guys that have the right mindset and attitude.” Sheridan said. “Not just him specifically, but all the people we bring into our program, you’re looking for those things. We’re certainly excited about him and the other guys we added.

“Obviously you’re looking for a variety of skillsets at that position. Certainly catch radius is always something, and different guys present that skill in different ways. Guys that can separate and get open in their own unique style, guys that can make contested catches, guys that can do something with the football, whether you’re big or small those are things that are important at that position. Certainly he’s displayed that.”

At 6-foot-4, Horton brings size on the outside that Alabama was lacking this past season, and will be greatly beneficial to the receiver room as a whole. He’ll be joined by star Ryan Williams, who will return for his sophomore season, as well as Germie Bernard if he decides to come back for his senior year.

    DB Cam Calhoun

On the defensive side, Alabama brought in defensive back Cam Calhoun as an added piece for the cornerback room. Calhoun came from Utah, and the year before that he was at Michigan.

“Excited about Cam Calhoun. You always look for experience value out of the transfer portal, I think we’re addressing some needs from an experience standpoint with a guy that can play multiple positions, he can do a lot of different things,” Wommack said. “He’s long, he looks like our guys. Quite honestly one thing I’ve realized we have to navigate here in the transfer portal is finding young men that believe they can play at Alabama.

“More often than not, there’s a number of guys that are excited about it, interested in it, but when the rubber meets the road they don’t think they can play here. So they choose not to come, and it’s okay. If you don’t think you can play here, then you shouldn’t come play at Alabama. Cam walked in the door with the mentality that he belonged at Alabama. Typically to me, those are the guys that’ll be successful here.”

Calhoun will be competing at a cornerback position that returns some major talent, with starter Zabien Brown slated to return as well as DaShawn Jones, while starter Domani Jackson has a decision to make regarding the NFL Draft. Jaylen Mbakwe also saw significant playing time at cornerback as a freshman, but has been practicing at wide receiver during bowl preparations.

    LB Nikhai Hill-Green

The other defensive addition Alabama has made is linebacker Nikhai Hill-Green, a transfer from Colorado who played inside linebacker. His addition is a welcomed one in a unit with a lot of unknowns for next season, as starters Jihaad Campbell and Deontae Lawson have NFL Draft decisions to make while top reserve Justin Jefferson awaits an NCAA ruling on his eligibility.

“Excited about Nikhai coming with our program. Here’s a guy with a lot of experience, he’s played a lot of snaps,” Wommack said. “When we got him in there, and had meetings with him, talked ball with him during his official visit it was very evident how smart of a ball player he was, how good of a communicator he’s gonna be. For us, having that experience with a group of guys with a lot of reps that we’re losing, a lot of mental reps, I think him and his experience is gonna be critical for us moving forward.”

Hill-Green has played college football since 2020 and will spend his last year of eligibility at Alabama in 2025, being his fourth college stop after playing at Michigan, Charlotte, and the aforementioned stop at Colorado last season.

Alabama coordinators Nick Saban and Bill O’Brien recently shared their thoughts on the incoming transfers to the program. Saban and O’Brien both expressed excitement about the additions to the team and the impact they believe these players will have on the field.

Saban highlighted the talent and potential of the transfers, noting their ability to contribute immediately and provide depth at key positions. He emphasized the importance of adding experienced players to the roster and praised the work ethic and dedication of the new additions.

O’Brien echoed Saban’s sentiments, praising the transfers for their skillset and versatility. He noted that the players bring a unique blend of talent and experience that will help elevate the team to the next level. O’Brien also emphasized the importance of competition within the team, stating that the transfers will push their teammates to improve and elevate their performance.

Overall, both coordinators are optimistic about the impact the incoming transfers will have on the Alabama program. They believe that these players will help strengthen the team and contribute to its success in the upcoming season.

Mikey Keene transfers to Michigan: Ex-Fresno State QB eyes starting job in 2025 as Bryce Underwood develops

    Fresno State v Michigan
    Getty Images

Michigan has landed a commitment from former Fresno State quarterback Mikey Keene, 247Sports confirms. Keene, who started his career at UCF, earned All-Mountain West Honorable Mention each of the past two seasons.

Keene comes to Ann Arbor after throwing for more than 8,000 yards and 65 touchdowns in 39 career games. In two years at Fresno State, Keene completed 68.7% of his passes for 5,868 yards and 42 touchdowns. Keene actually started against Michigan for Fresno State this season, completing 22 of 36 passes for 235 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.

The senior has one year of eligibility remaining, making him an ideal stopgap for the Wolverines with No. 1 overall recruit Bryce Underwood coming to campus. The Belleville, Michigan, native is the future at Michigan, but Keene’s presence means that the Wolverines staff can pace his development.

In their first season under coach Sherrone Moore, the Wolverines posted one of the worst passing offenses by a major college team of the past several years. The Wolverines ranked No. 130 nationally in passing offense at 133.6 yards per game, ahead of only Iowa and the three service academies. Their 5.5 yards per pass attempt cleared only New Mexico State. After the season, Michigan fired offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell and hired Chip Lindsey, a former coach at Troy

Michigan quarterback Alex Orji has entered the transfer portal and Jack Tuttle is out of eligibility. However, primary starter Davis Warren and backups Jayden Denegal and Jadyn Davis remain on the roster for now. The Wolverines play Alabama in the ReliaQuest Bowl in a rematch of the 2024 Rose Bowl on Dec. 31.

Mikey Keene, who recently entered the transfer portal after playing two seasons at Fresno State, has announced his decision to transfer to Michigan. The talented quarterback is now setting his sights on competing for the starting job in 2025 as current quarterback Bryce Underwood continues to develop.

Keene, known for his strong arm and ability to read defenses, will bring a wealth of experience and leadership to the Wolverines. During his time at Fresno State, he threw for over 3,000 yards and 20 touchdowns, showcasing his potential to excel at the next level.

With Underwood still in the early stages of his development, Keene will have the opportunity to make an immediate impact and compete for the starting role. His arrival adds depth and competition to the quarterback room, creating a healthy environment for growth and improvement.

Michigan fans are eagerly anticipating Keene’s debut in the maize and blue, as they believe he has the potential to lead the team to success in the coming seasons. As he begins his new chapter in Ann Arbor, all eyes will be on Keene as he looks to make his mark and solidify his place as the starting quarterback for the Wolverines.
