  • Christina Haack’s divorce will go to trial as estranged husband refuses mediation

Christina Haack’s heated divorce battle with estranged husband Josh Hall is heading for the courtroom.

Haack and Hall are “not even close” to settling their divorce.

“We’re going to be going to trial, I hear,” the HGTV star said during a Jan. 12 appearance on Sirius XM’s “Jeff Lewis Live.” “He doesn’t want to do mediation. It’s going to be fun, can’t wait.”

Haack noted she hasn’t been “ordered” to pay Hall’s attorney’s fees, “but he’s been asking.” “I’ve already had to give a little something,” she admitted. The reality TV star claimed she has been financially supportive of Hall.

“I gave him money to live, and then he bought a Bentley, but then he also doesn’t have a job,” she noted. “But he drives a Bentley, so I’m sure he’s pulling a lot of chicks.”

Haack’s representative declined to comment when reached by Fox News Digital.

While speaking with Lewis, Haack also noted she and Hall “don’t get along, there’s no getting along. Have you ever seen how I go after him on social? No. Anyways, yeah we don’t get along.”

On Tuesday, Haack called out Hall for his “narcissism” in a scathing post on Instagram after the realtor’s rep released a statement saying it’s “sad Christina must resort to low blows about her ex Josh to promote her new show. She should focus on her new relationship and stop talking about Josh. As the great Mariah Carey once sang, ‘Why you so obsessed with me?’”

The statement was given to Life & Style regarding Haack’s appearance on “Jeff Lewis Live.”

“I just threw up in my mouth,” Haack wrote over the statement on her Instagram story. “Quoting a Mariah Carey song is a new low even for you. Trust me idgaf about Josh’s life. I do however care about his bts tactics. Narcissism at its finest.”

Despite the legal back-and-forth that continues to build up, both have been trying to move on.

Hall posted a birthday tribute on social media for model Stephanie Gabrys on his Instagram, seemingly confirming their relationship.

“Happy Birthday to this real life [angel emoji],” he captioned a photo of Gabrys sitting on his lap.

Haack has also moved on with CEO and President of Network Connex Christopher Larocca, according to People magazine.

Haack and Hall filed their own divorce petitions in July, each citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the dissolution of their marriage. Hall requested spousal support and asked the court to terminate Haack’s ability to receive spousal support from him. Meanwhile, Haack requested the court terminate both of their ability to be awarded spousal support.

“I prefer privacy, especially during something as life-changing as a divorce I did not ask for,” Hall wrote on Instagram after the divorce news broke. “I will not publicly badmouth anyone as people have families, friends and others who respect and love them. Unfortunately, the internet is forever.”

“We are real humans, this is our life and I am not here to entertain people I don’t know with my private matters. Those details will be handled fairly behind closed doors with our respective counsels in due time. Those who know each of us, know who we are.”

Despite Hall’s plea for no drama, the ongoing divorce battle has been heated.

Haack previously slammed Hall’s alleged request of $65,000 in monthly spousal support while the two worked out details of their split. The HGTV star’s lawyer claimed in an Oct. 10 legal filing obtained by Fox News Digital that the request was “outrageous” because Hall is “self-supporting.”

“The claim by [Josh] that he sent a good faith settlement offer is not an accurate characterization of the communication. The Petitioner Josh Hall requesting $65,000 per month in Spousal Support from [Christina] on a 2-year, 9-month marriage when he is self-supporting is hardly good faith,” the documents read. “[Josh] just paid $70,000 to pay off the lease on [his] separate property Bentley and so he has no need for spousal support from [Christina].”

Josh Hall claimed Christina Haack’s legal filing saying he requested $65,000 per month in spousal support was full of lies. (Instagram: Josh Hall)

However, Hall slammed the claim with a statement shared on social media: “So now @dearmeylaw files legal declarations with lies and assumptions… interesting tactic for someone who is a licensed attorney and took an oath of integrity,” he wrote on his Instagram story at the time. “Pretty sure making provably false statements to a judge is unethical.”

Money issues have seemed to be a reoccurring spot of conflict for the former couple. Haack previously accused Hall of transferring $35,000 from her bank account into his personal account just one day after the divorce filing.

“I would not have asked him to send himself my money the day after I told him we are getting divorced,” Haack stated in court documents obtained by Fox News Digital.

Christina Haack’s divorce proceedings with her estranged husband, Ant Anstead, will now go to trial as he has reportedly refused mediation. The former couple, who split in September 2020 after less than two years of marriage, had been attempting to settle their divorce out of court through mediation.

However, according to sources close to the situation, Anstead has recently decided to forgo mediation and take the divorce to trial. This move comes as a surprise to many, as both Haack and Anstead had previously expressed a desire to co-parent amicably and resolve their differences outside of the courtroom.

It remains to be seen what issues will be brought up during the trial, but it is likely that the division of assets and custody arrangements for their one-year-old son, Hudson, will be key points of contention. Haack, who is known for her role on HGTV’s “Flip or Flop” and “Christina on the Coast,” has been vocal about her commitment to co-parenting peacefully with Anstead for the sake of their son.

As the divorce proceedings continue to unfold, fans of the couple are left wondering how this unexpected turn of events will impact their future relationship and co-parenting dynamic. Stay tuned for updates as the trial progresses.

  • CNN found guilty in Florida trial of libeling Navy veteran in Afghan story

A Florida jury on Friday found CNN guilty of libeling a U.S. Navy veteran in a 2021 story about people paid to rescue endangered Afghans following the Taliban takeover of that country.

The jury in Panama City, Florida, deliberated for more than eight hours starting Thursday before ruling in favor of Zachary Young, who blamed CNN for destroying his business by showing his face onscreen in a story about a “black market” of smuggling out desperate Afghans for high fees.

The jury has awarded Young $5 million in damages and is now being asked to determine whether CNN must pay additional punitive damages.

It was an unusual guilty ruling against a media outlet in a defamation case. Libel laws are generally protective of news organizations, and plaintiffs must meet a high standard to prove defamation.

Young had argued that his business targeted sponsors who could afford to pay for Afghans to get out, not individual Afghans charged as much as $10,000 for the service. While CNN said it was wrong to use the phrase “black market,” it contended that its reporting on Young was accurate.

“I know Zach feels heard in a way that he hasn’t felt for over three years,” Young’s lawyer, Devin Freedman, said after the verdict.

In a recent trial in Florida, CNN was found guilty of libeling a Navy veteran in a story about his time in Afghanistan. The veteran, who served multiple tours in the war-torn country, was falsely accused of committing heinous acts during his time overseas.

Despite the veteran’s repeated denials and attempts to set the record straight, CNN continued to report on the false allegations, damaging his reputation and causing irreparable harm to his personal and professional life.

The jury in the trial unanimously ruled in favor of the veteran, awarding him a substantial amount in damages for the harm caused by CNN’s irresponsible reporting. The verdict serves as a stark reminder of the importance of journalistic integrity and the consequences of spreading misinformation.

This case highlights the need for media outlets to thoroughly fact-check their stories and ensure the accuracy of their reporting, especially when it comes to sensitive and potentially damaging information. The veteran in this case deserved better treatment from CNN, and the verdict sends a clear message that defamation and libel will not be tolerated.

A Florida jury found CNN liable on Friday in a high-stakes defamation trial against U.S. Navy veteran Zachary Young, who alleged that the network maligned him as an “illegal profiteer” with a report on Afghan evacuees being charged thousands of dollars to flee the country following the U.S. military withdrawal.

Following two days of deliberations, the jury ruled that CNN must pay Young $4 million in financial damages and $1 million for emotional damage, adding that Young is also owed punitive damages. The trial is now heading into a second phase to determine the amount of punitive damages Young should receive from the network.

A CNN spokesperson told The Independent that the network would withhold comment until the final and complete verdict was handed down.

The verdict comes weeks after ABC News paid $15 million to Donald Trump’s presidential library fund and another million dollars to his legal team to settle the president-elect’s defamation lawsuit against the network – a move that First Amendment experts warned could have a “chilling effect” on the free press.

The jury in the trial, which was held in deeply conservative Bay County, Florida, was tasked with determining whether CNN acted with “actual malice” during its reporting on Young. The court defines actual malice as a reckless disregard of the truth while publishing false information. Additionally, the burden of proof in this case was lower because the judge ruled before the trial that Young was not a public figure.

Young, a security contractor who once worked for the CIA, sued CNN in 2022 over a story it ran the year before on private contractors charging desperate Afghans large amounts of money to help evacuate them from the war-torn country after the Taliban retook control. The investigatory piece, reported by national security correspondent Alex Marquardt, was first aired on Jake Tapper’s show and warned of “exorbitant fees” from “black market” rescue operations that had “no guarantee of safety or success.”

CNN was sued by US Navy veteran Zachary Young for defamation over a report on ‘black market’ Afghanistan evacuations.

In his complaint, Young said his inclusion in the story suggested that his activities were criminal, specifically because of an on-air graphic that used the term “black market.” That banner was also used when the story ran on CNN programming and the network’s website. Young said that he only charged corporate sponsors to extract Afghans and never took money directly from residents, pushing back on the story’s implication that he was exploiting people fearful of the Taliban.

CNN’s legal team and witnesses, meanwhile, argued during the trial that their intention behind the use of the term “black market” was to show that evacuations in the region were taking place in an “unregulated market” and didn’t explicitly mean the actions were criminal. Young’s attorneys, however, noted that the dictionary defined the term as “illegal.”

“Do not let CNN rewrite the English language to avoid liability in this case,” attorney Devin Freedman told the jurors during his closing arguments on Thursday.

Young has argued that the CNN story destroyed his reputation and left him unable to make a living, claiming his yearly salary went from six figures to zero. He also said that the network caused psychological damage to him, prompting Freedman to urge the jury to “send a message that news organizations must be held accountable.”

Months after the story first ran on CNN, the network issued an on-air apology after Young’s attorneys threatened legal action. Delivered by anchor Pamela Brown, who was substituting for Tapper, the correction stated that the term “black market” shouldn’t have been used in the report and the network “did not intend to suggest that Mr. Young participated in a black market.”

During the trial, however, Marquardt and other CNN employees testified that they didn’t feel the correction was necessary and that it was merely issued at the behest of the network’s legal counsel to avoid a lawsuit.

Additionally, CNN’s legal team argued in court filings that at the “time of its reporting, CNN knew little about Young’s financials, his model, or whether he’d successfully evacuated anyone because whenever anyone [including CNN] asked Young to explain his business, he obfuscated, behaved unprofessionally, lied, and hid.” They also stated last summer that Young’s “operation was very different from how he publicly portrayed it” and he never planned any evacuations.

“I reported the facts. I reported what I found. Everything in there was factual, accurate and, I believe, fair,” Marquardt said on the stand on Monday, defending his reporting. He also took issue with his story being described as a “hit piece” by Young’s lawyers, claiming he wasn’t personally going after the security contractor.

“You needed a bad guy for your scandal story,” Freedman told Marquardt at one point. “You hated him, did you not?”

Throughout the trial, Freedman presented a series of Slack messages and emails from Marquardt and other CNN staffers in which they referred to Young as a “s***bag” with a “punchable face.” In one message to an editor, Marquardt said they were “gonna nail this Zachary Young mf***er,” while an editor responded: “Gonna hold you to that one cowboy!” In another message, Marquardt said of Young: “It’s your funeral, bucko.”

In depositions and court filings, CNN and its lawyers defended the harsh remarks as “banter” that’s part of a candid newsroom and that it didn’t impact the editorial process. “I hear a lot of profanity at work,” one producer said. “Few things are more common in newsrooms than journalists using tough and indignant language to refer to persons whose misdeeds they believe they are in the process of exposing,” the network acknowledged in a filing last month.

In a December court order, though, Judge William Henry stated that while the network “downplays the ‘coarse and harsh language’” as “journalistic bravado,” a “reasonable jury could find with convincing clarity that the reporters acted with ill will, hostility or an evil intention to defame and injure Young or intended to personally harm him.”

The jury may have tipped its hand on Wednesday when they repeatedly peppered CNN reporter Katie Bo Lillis — who first attempted to contact Young for the story — with pointed questions about the vague messages she initially sent the contractor. “Do you feel Americans are obligated to speak to you?” one juror asked, while another wondered: “At what point do you accept someone not wishing to speak or comment?”

The investigatory piece, reported by national security correspondent Alex Marquardt, was first aired on Jake Tapper’s show

Additionally, network lawyer David Axelrod (no relation to the CNN pundit of the same name) was severely reprimanded by Henry on Wednesday for “blatant misrepresentations” he made about a document related to Young. Saying Axelrod’s credibility with him was “none,” Henry urged the lawyer to apologize to Young for repeatedly calling him a “liar.”

The network’s editorial process and fact-checking also came under intense scrutiny during the trial, especially since some editors seemed to express reservations about publishing the story. “The story is full of holes like Swiss cheese,” breaking news editor Megan Trimble wrote, while senior national security editor Thomas Lumley replied: “Agree. The story is 80% emotion, 20% obscured fact lol.”

“I’m never going to publish a story that is factually incorrect or unfair,” Lumley said on Tuesday, insisting that he didn’t doubt the facts of the story. “That’s the red line.”

The trial took part in the Florida Panhandle, a deeply red part of the country that voted overwhelmingly for Trump. It also comes at a time when CNN, which the president-elect has repeatedly called “fake news,” and the rest of the mainstream media face ideologically polarized perceptions from the public. Conservative discontent has only grown more engrained as Trump has made legal and political threats against the press a regular occurrence.

Perhaps because of this, some legal observers called on CNN to settle before the case went to trial, especially in light of the “damning” text exchanges that had become public during discovery.

“The internal communications certainly make it sound as if the main journalist on the story wanted to ruin the plaintiff, and that there were reasons to believe that … he was overplaying their hand factually,” University of Florida law professor Lyrissa Lidsky told NPR earlier this month.

“My advice to CNN would be to cough it up. Settle,” former Bloomberg News media legal counsel Charles Glasser added. “Admit you’re wrong. Admit your hyperbole was out of line, and move on.”

In a recent defamation trial, CNN has been found liable for their reporting on a US Navy veteran’s alleged involvement in a controversial incident in Afghanistan. The veteran, who has not been named for privacy reasons, claimed that CNN’s reporting falsely accused him of committing war crimes during his service overseas.

The jury ruled in favor of the veteran, awarding him significant damages for the harm caused to his reputation and livelihood. The veteran’s legal team argued that CNN’s reporting was filled with inaccuracies and sensationalized claims, leading to severe consequences for their client.

This case serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible journalism and the potential consequences of spreading false information. It also highlights the impact that defamation can have on individuals, particularly those who have served their country honorably.

CNN has yet to comment on the verdict, but this trial serves as a cautionary tale for media outlets to thoroughly fact-check their reporting and ensure they are not spreading misinformation that could harm individuals unjustly.

  • CNN Loses Defamation Trial Over Afghan Evacuation Report

CNN defamed a U.S. Navy veteran in a 2021 report portraying him as illegally exploiting Afghans by charging exorbitant fees to be evacuated in the aftermath of the U.S. military withdrawal from the country, a jury has found.

A Florida jury on Friday awarded Zachary Young, a security consultant who said the story destroyed his business and reputation, $5 million after a nine-day defamation trial, The Washington Post reporter Jeremy Barr, who was onsite for the trial, reported. The award doesn’t account for punitive damages, intended to punish particularly malicious conduct, which will push the total higher.

The verdict could signal the public’s perception of CNN, which didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment, as President Donald Trump comes into office after years of denouncing the network for allegedly biased coverage.

The disputed segment opens with Jake Tapper describing the U.S. government’s evacuation of citizens. He goes on to say Afghans “trying to get out of the country face a black market full of promises, demand of exorbitant fees, and no guarantee of safety or success.” The segment then switches to CNN chief security correspondent Alex Marquardt describing the situation of a man located in the U.S. whose family remained in Afghanistan and said that he found people on Facebook charging $10,000 per person to be evacuated. Marquardt stated that “according to Afghans and activists we’ve spoke with, desperate Afghans are now being exploited” because of the “exorbitant” and “impossible” amounts charged, pointing to a LinkedIn post from Young advertising his services and chat logs between him and people inquiring about his business.

Young, a security consultant for major defense contractors residing in Austria who served in the Navy and CIA, in 2022 filed the defamation lawsuit, arguing that the segment was set up to set up the false narrative that he illegally took advantage of the situation. He denied the assertion and said that he only assisted U.S. corporations and charities, which paid up to $14,500 for his services, that wanted to extract certain people from the country.

Threatened with legal action by Young, CNN issued an on-air apology, issued a retraction and removed the segment, as well as all references to “black markets” made in relation to him. Network executives testified during the trial that a correction wasn’t necessary.

Young said the story rendered him unemployable since maintaining his security clearance involves investigations to identify criminal activity and financial difficulties. He sought at least $15 million.

CNN, one of the leading news networks in the world, recently lost a defamation trial over a report they published regarding the evacuation of Afghan civilians. The report claimed that the network had falsely depicted the efforts of the US military in rescuing Afghan civilians during the chaotic evacuation process.

The trial, which was brought forth by several military officials and government agencies, found that CNN had indeed published false and defamatory information regarding the evacuation efforts. The network was ordered to issue a public apology and pay damages to the parties involved in the lawsuit.

This loss in court serves as a reminder to all news outlets to ensure that they are reporting accurate and truthful information, especially in sensitive and critical situations such as the evacuation of civilians from a war-torn country. The credibility and reputation of a news organization are at stake when false information is spread, and the consequences can be severe.

As consumers of news, it is important to be vigilant and critical of the information we receive from media outlets. Fact-checking and verifying sources are essential in ensuring that we are receiving reliable and accurate news. Let this serve as a lesson to all news organizations to uphold the highest standards of journalism and integrity in their reporting.

  • A$AP Rocky Gun-Assault Trial to Begin Next Week

With the aftermath of the Los Angeles wildfires as a dramatic backdrop, A$AP Rocky’s criminal trial over charges he fired shots at his former friend A$AP Relli on a Hollywood, California, street three years ago remains on track to start next week.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Mark S. Arnold said jury selection will begin Tuesday. Rocky, born Rakim Mayers, was ordered to appear in person each day. Prosecutors said they planned to make a new plea-deal offer to Mayers before the expected 15-day trial gets underway. The Grammy-nominated rapper’s high-powered defense lawyer, Joseph Tacopina, told Arnold he believed any such offer would be a pointless endeavor.

“From our side, we have no interest in a settlement. My client has indicated he’s not willing to take anything. But obviously, I will listen to anything, any offer. And I have an obligation and a duty to relay it to my client, which I will do,” Tacopina told the court. After the hearing, Tacopina said Mayers is feeling “confident” he will be acquitted and is ready to testify if necessary.

“He’s eager to tell his story. He would love the opportunity to do so,” Tacopina tells Rolling Stone. “He’s a good human being, and that would come out if he testifies. But that’s a decision that has not been made yet. It depends how the case goes.”

Mayers, 36, has pleaded not guilty to two counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm. If convicted as charged, he faces up to 24 years in prison. At a preliminary hearing in late 2023, prosecutors showed video of the alleged Nov. 6, 2021, gun assault, claiming Mayers fired a weapon at the corner of Selma Avenue and Vista Del Mar Avenue in Hollywood after first confronting Relli, born Terell Ephron, at the entrance of a parking garage about a block away.

Surveillance footage from the parking garage captured the start of the altercation and showed Mayers and Ephron involved in a physical struggle. According to prosecutors, separate grainy video shot by a different building’s security system a block away shows the moment Mayers allegedly discharged a weapon. The video is difficult to make out, a police witness acknowledged. There is no obvious muzzle flash and no sound, only figures appearing to scatter at the same time. Surveillance clips recovered from other nearby buildings captured loud noises and then a man identified by prosecutors as Mayers rounding a corner and slowing down to a walk. Prosecutors claim the loud cracks were the alleged shots.

Tacopina told reporters today that he believes the evidence is on his side. “There’s a reason that 10 police officers searched and didn’t find shell casings there,” he said. “[It’s] not because they were blind or drunk or because they didn’t want to find it. It’s because they did a thorough job.”

The pit-bull defense lawyer known for representing high-profile clients including Meek Mill, YG, and Donald Trump said Mayers is “confident and he’s ready to go. He believes in justice, and he believes this is going to work out for him.” He called the case against Mayers “fundamentally weak” and his defense position “very, very strong.”

Tacopina also acknowledged his client has a lot on the line and is thinking about his family. He said any decision about Mayers’ superstar partner Rihanna, the mother of his two young children, attending the trial would be up to them. “I know Rocky is very protective of Rihanna and doesn’t want her anywhere near this proceeding. But that’s a family decision they’ll make,” he said.

During today’s hearing, prosecutors balked at the suggestion Rihanna might be referred to as Mayers’ “wife” in front of jurors. The judge said that unless the couple is married in some jurisdiction in the world, she’ll be referred to as his “significant other.”

“This case is not about Rihanna. But I guess the DA wants to make sure people aren’t so enamored with Rihanna they’re going to be so blinded by their love for Rihanna they won’t listen to the evidence and facts of this case,” Tacopina said outside the courthouse. “I think people are too smart for that. But I guess they’re worried about it. They want to make sure she’s classified in [a certain] way.”

Mayers also has a full professional schedule heading into trial. He was tapped as a headline performer for Rolling Loud California in Los Angeles in March and named as a co-chair of the next Met Gala, set for May 5, with Pharrell Williams and LeBron James. He’s also due to play the “main role” in Spike Lee’s upcoming remake of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 kidnapping drama High and Low, making his acting debut alongside Ice Spice.

While Deputy District Attorney Paul Przelomiec has been prosecuting the case since its inception, Deputy District Attorney John Lewin, the lead prosecutor on the Robert Durst murder trial and a vocal supporter of new District Attorney Nathan Hochman, appeared at the hearing today and said he was joining the team.

At the evidentiary hearing in November 2023, LAPD detective Frank Flores testified that no weapons were ever recovered in the case. The detective also conceded the video of the alleged shooting was inconclusive. “[There’s] nothing clear that shows it,” meaning the purported gunfire, he said. The detective claimed that “collectively,” the videos tell a plausible story, but Tacopina pushed back. “I’m not asking for opinion,” Tacopina interrupted, asking again if the video showed a shooting. “Nothing definitively shows,” the detective answered.

The judge in the hearing ruled there was enough evidence to warrant a jury trial. “The court agrees with the defense that you don’t see an actual shooting on the video. Later, in another section of video, you do hear two shots,” Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge M.L. Villar said. In addition to the video evidence, the judge said she considered the extensive testimony by Relli regarding the alleged shooting and his belief he was grazed by a bullet on his left hand. “In any event, Mr. Ephron does what appears to be a dance around the other individuals to avoid being shot. His testimony is that he was shot,” Villar said.

In his preliminary testimony, Ephron claimed he was the victim of an armed ambush orchestrated by Mayers. He described sending Mayers an embittered text on Oct. 28, 2021, days before the alleged shooting, because he believed Mayers had failed to deliver on a promise to pay funeral expenses for one of their friends, A$AP Josh. “You so fucking fake it’s sad,” the text shown to the judge read. Mayers never responded, Ephron testified. (Under cross-examination, Ephron said he eventually learned Mayers paid for the entire funeral.)

According to Ephron, Mayers reached out to him directly the night of the alleged assault and set up the face-to-face meeting. He testified that Mayers brandished a firearm outside the parking garage and threatened, “I’ll kill you right now.” Ephron said he dared Mayers to follow through, and that Mayers eventually fired an initial shot that “grazed” his hand about a block away. “Rocky turned around and shot me,” he testified under oath. He said Mayers fired two or three more times before fleeing the scene. He said he returned later that night and found two 9mm shell casings that he photographed and gave to police days later.

Mayers also is fighting a lawsuit brought by Ephron alleging assault, battery, negligence, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. As first reported by Rolling Stone, the civil complaint filed in August 2022 revealed Ephron as the alleged victim in the shooting investigation that led to Mayers’ arrest in April 2022. In court, Tacopina has claimed Ephron and his lawyers sought a financial settlement after it was clear a criminal case was pending.

“I think this is in large part about money, money, money. And there’s jealousy, obviously. He’s made that clear,” Tacopina told reporters today, after the hearing. “If he got money, we wouldn’t all be sitting here right now.”

Ephron’s former civil lawyers, Jamal Tooson and Brian Hurwitz, previously told Rolling Stone that the case against Mayers was “thoroughly investigated by both law enforcement and the Los Angeles district attorney prior to the decision to not only arrest A$AP Rocky but charge him.” Ephron’s new lawyer on the civil case, Camille Vasquez, is the attorney who represented Johnny Depp in his defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard. Vasquez did not immediately respond to a request for comment today. Ephron went on to file a second civil complaint against Mayers that alleges he and Tacopina defamed Ephron with the extortion allegation.
