  • Madonna Recalls Fight to Adopt Daughter Mercy James in Tribute

Madonna is celebrating her daughter Mercy James’ 19th birthday with a heartfelt Instagram post reflecting on the challenges she faced during the adoption process. The Grammy-winning artist recalled Mercy’s early days in a Malawian orphanage and the 4.5-year legal battle it took to bring her home.

“Happy Birthday Chifundo-AKA-Mercy James! You are such a special soul,” Madonna shared, “When I met you, you were a tiny baby, underneath a mosquito net in an orphanage in Malawi. You were very sick with Malaria, but you pulled through. I whispered in your ear that I would do my best to give you a home as soon as possible.”

In the message, Madonna went on to explain the difficult battle she faced to adopt her daughter. While the singer already had a few children of her own — daughter Lourdes, son Rocco and in the process of adopting son David — she still faced difficulty bringing Mercy home.

“4 1/2 years later after battling with the Supreme Court in Malawi because they did not allow divorced women to adopt children. You came to live with us,” she continued. “You arrived with your hand in your mouth silent and refusing to speak. Who knew that you would grow up to be the kindest person with the biggest heart and the most infectious laugh.”

“You are the one that everyone goes to for advice, or a shoulder to cry on,” she continued. “You hold a special place in the heart of everyone that knows you. Especially me.

Inside Madonna’s adoption battle for Mercy James

Mercy was born in Malawi on Jan. 22, 2006, and her adoption was finalized on June 12, 2009, after initially being rejected a month prior. The singer opened up about this a few years ago.

I met Mercy soon after I met my son David, but they were living in different orphanages. David was in Mchinji in Home of Hope, and Mercy was here in Blantyre at Kondanani. Mercy was suffering from malaria, and David from pneumonia. And when I held each of them in my arms, I whispered in their ears, that I would look after them. And I promised them that they would grow up into strong and healthy adults…” Madonna shared back in 2017.

“But this time, the judge who was presiding said no,” she continued. “I was recently divorced, and she informed me, as a divorced woman, I was not fit to raise children, and that Mercy James was better off growing up in an orphanage.”

Madonna explained that despite the difficulties she faced trying to adopt Mercy, you have to persevere if you want to succeed, which is what she did during this trying time.

“I never gave up. And I never backed down. And I believe that if you want something badly enough in life, the universe will conspire to help you get it… But if you persevere, you will win.”

Following her battle to adopt Mercy, the Grammy winner went through the process of adopting yet again, to give a home to twins Stella and Estere in 2017.

Madonna Recalls Fight to Adopt Daughter Mercy James in Tribute

In a heartfelt post on social media, Madonna opened up about the challenging journey she faced in adopting her daughter Mercy James. The pop icon shared how she fought tirelessly for the young girl’s adoption, navigating legal hurdles and facing criticism from skeptics.

Despite the obstacles, Madonna never gave up on her quest to give Mercy a loving home and a brighter future. In her tribute, Madonna expressed her admiration for Mercy’s strength and resilience, and how proud she is of the young woman she has become.

Madonna’s touching post serves as a reminder of the power of love and determination in creating a family, and the importance of fighting for what you believe in. It is a testament to the bond between mother and daughter, and a celebration of the beautiful journey they have shared together.

Audrey Hepburn’s son, Sean Hepburn Ferrer, has shared his reaction to Ivanka Trump’s ball gown that paid tribute to his mother.

Ivanka attended the Inaugural Liberty Ball on Monday (January 20) — following her father Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration — wearing a recreation of Hepburn’s iconic look from the 1954 film, Sabrina.

Following the ball, Ferrer shared a statement about the look, noting that he wasn’t surprised to see that Ivanka was inspired by his mother’s fashion sense.

“It is no wonder that growing up in a family which knew our mother as a household name she chose to draw inspiration from her,” he told the Daily Mail in a statement. “To seek the ultimate elegance and class reference, for an occasion such as this one – the inauguration and the 32nd anniversary of our mother’s passing and, most of all, Martin Luther King’s day. What a cocktail!”

He also said that Ivanka’s tribute showed that Hepburn’s “legacy has grown to become transgenerational and transitional” throughout the last 71 years.

“Her elegance, which has its roots in her inner beauty and spirit, is often a reference point, an anchor, for many celebrities, actresses and models in these times in which we appear to have somewhat lost our way,” Ferrer added of his mother, who died in 1993 of appendix cancer at the age of 63.

Ivanak’s outfit for the Liberty Ball was a white, strapless gown, with black floral detailing across the chest and skirt. Donald’s daughter, who attended the event with her husband Jared Kushner, paired the look with black satin gloves, black high heels, and a diamond necklace.

Following the ball, the 43-year-old also acknowledged her admiration for the Breakfast at Tiffany’s star and described the work that was put into recreating the dress.

“Audrey Hepburn has long been a personal inspiration to Ivanka,” a representative for Ivanka told Page Six on Tuesday. “She views it as a great privilege to honor her legacy in this way, and is incredibly grateful to the team at Givenchy for bringing this moment to life.”

During the inauguration on Monday, Ivanka also turned heads with a different outfit. Before heading to the U.S. Capitol building that morning, she arrived outside St. John’s Church with her children — Arabella, 13, Joseph, 10, and Theodore, eight — donning an emerald green, cinched pantsuit with a long-sleeved, asymmetrical hemmed coat wrapped and belted around her.

She paired the monochrome ensemble with a matching ascot cap fastened on the side of her head and a black Lady Dior bag. The dignified outfit struck a chord with viewers online, prompting many to compare the look to The Handmaid’s Tale character, Serena Joy, played by Yvonne Strahovski.

On Instagram, the popular fashion account @dietprada, shared an image of Strahovski’s character in a long matching green cape and leather glove, just like Ivanka’s swearing-in ceremony get-up.

“She literally watched this show and thought, ‘I don’t see why everyone hates Serena Joy, she’s just a good christian woman,’” one person wrote in the comments of the post, while another said: “It’s 100 percent intentional.”

Ivanka stepped out in full custom Oscar de la Renta during the inauguration weekend. However, the brand’s decision to dress Ivanka was met with angered fashion fans ready to boycott the house.

Audrey Hepburn’s son, Luca Dotti, recently shared his thoughts on Ivanka Trump’s choice to pay tribute to his mother with her inaugural ball gown. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Dotti expressed mixed feelings about the homage, stating that while he appreciates the sentiment behind the gesture, he believes that his mother’s style and legacy should be respected and honored in a more authentic way.

Dotti explained that Audrey Hepburn was known for her timeless elegance and grace, and he feels that simply emulating her iconic look falls short of truly capturing her essence. He emphasized the importance of understanding the context and meaning behind his mother’s fashion choices, rather than simply replicating them for aesthetic purposes.

While Dotti acknowledged that Ivanka Trump’s gown was a beautiful tribute to his mother, he hopes that individuals inspired by Audrey Hepburn will strive to embody her values and principles, rather than just her outward appearance. He encouraged fans of Hepburn to remember her philanthropic work and humanitarian efforts, as well as her iconic style.

Overall, Dotti’s comments serve as a reminder that true homage to a fashion icon like Audrey Hepburn involves more than just wearing a similar dress – it requires an understanding and appreciation of the person behind the clothing.

  • Ivanka Trump’s strange tribute to Audrey Hepburn with ‘Sabrina’ dress replica | U.S.

The inaugural ball for Donald Trump’s second term saw its attendees dressed in gala attire. First Lady Melania Trump chose a white gown by Hervé Pierre, a nod to her 2017 look, this time accessorized with diamonds from the renowned American jeweler Harry Winston. However, it was Ivanka Trump who stole the spotlight with her surprise look. The president’s daughter attended the second ball of the night in a strikingly familiar dress — a replica of the iconic gown Audrey Hepburn wore in the film Sabrina. The gown was an exact replica of the one Hubert de Givenchy designed for Hepburn in 1954.

Ivanka Trump wore the dress for just 10 minutes on stage, dancing to Unchained Melody by The Righteous Brothers with her husband, Jared Kushner. However, many quickly noticed that the dress was a near-identical replica of the iconic archival piece. Ivanka Trump later confirmed on her social media that the dress had indeed been designed by Givenchy.

Initially, it was thought to be the original gown, which had belonged to actresses Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher, mother and daughter. The dress was sold at auction in October 2017 for over $200,000, though its buyer was unknown at the time. A second auction in February 2024, hosted by Propstore, saw it sell for $125,000. It soon became clear that the dress Trump wore was not the original. That gown had faded to a yellowish hue, while Ivanka’s dress was pure white. What’s more, Audrey Hepburn was not the same size as Ivanka Trump, meaning the original wouldn’t fit.

Ivanka Trump closely follows classic Hollywood style, embracing defined silhouettes, hats (such as the small green one she wore during her father’s inauguration, though it was overshadowed by Melania Trump’s), and bold colors. She previously wore a dress reminiscent of Grace Kelly’s blue gown from To Catch a Thief, but this time, the resemblance was even more striking. She further accessorized the look with black gloves and a high bun.

According to a White House representative, who shared details with Vogue magazine, Trump felt “honored” to wear the Givenchy design and was “incredibly grateful for the Arnault family and the Givenchy atelier for creating this masterpiece, capturing the original artistry and elegance with remarkable precision and craftsmanship.” The representative continued: “Audrey Hepburn has long been a personal inspiration to Ivanka, She views it as a great privilege to honor her legacy in this way, and is incredibly grateful to the team at Givenchy for bringing this moment to life.”

The mention of the Arnaults is not incidental: the French family controls LVMH, a vast conglomerate that includes brands like Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Bvlgari, Moet Chandon, Sephora, and Givenchy. With a fortune exceeding $184 billion, the Arnault family is considered the fifth-largest fortune in the world. They were also present at Trump’s inauguration on Monday, with Delphine Arnault, the second of Bernard Arnault’s five children and the family business leader, frequently in the spotlight. Positioned in a prime location at the Capitol, she was often the focus of American television cameras.

Ivanka Trump’s reference to Audrey Hepburn also carries a touch of irony. Hepburn, an accomplished actress with a stellar career in the United States, having been nominated for an Oscar five times and winning once, was herself an immigrant. Born in Brussels in 1929, she spent her early years in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. During World War II, she supported the Dutch resistance by raising money through concerts and ballet performances, even volunteering at a hospital.

Beyond Trump’s apparent admiration for Audrey Hepburn, the reasons behind her choice of dress remain unclear. It is also unclear whether she owns the original garment, which has an intriguing history. According to The Hollywood Reporter, eight years ago, both this dress and many others were nearly donated to charity. A friend of actress Debbie Reynolds and her daughter Carrie Fisher, who owned an auction house, discovered three trunks tucked away in the back of their ranch’s storage room and decided to investigate.

Joe Maddalena, president of the California-based auction house Profiles in History, recalled: “We had been told it was vaudeville stuff, nothing important. But we had a few hours to kill, so we opened up the trunks and started pulling stuff out.”

Among the treasures were Mae West outfits, but one garment stood out: the instantly recognizable white organza dress with black embroidery and a detachable train. This was the dress worn by Hepburn’s character, Sabrina, during the iconic garden party in the film, where she reconnects with her father’s employers, the Larrabees, after spending two years studying in Paris.

According to Maddalena, Reynolds and Fisher likely didn’t even recall having the dress. The legendary actress, who was a personal friend of Maddalena, “purchased so many things over the years, at one point it was just likely forgotten,” he said. “The thing about Debbie is that, if you asked her what she wanted to be remembered for, she would say as a collector. She loved Hollywood and was the ultimate fan,” Maddalena explained about the Singin’ in the Rain star, who passed away in December 2016. Fisher, her daughter and the iconic Princess Leia from Star Wars, tragically died a day earlier. At the auction, the starting price for the dress was $120,000, but it sold for nearly double: $217,600 (about $280,000 when adjusted for inflation).

Ivanka Trump’s strange tribute to Audrey Hepburn with ‘Sabrina’ dress replica

Ivanka Trump recently made headlines for her unusual tribute to the iconic Audrey Hepburn. The former first daughter wore a replica of Hepburn’s famous dress from the movie “Sabrina” at a recent event, sparking mixed reactions from fans and critics alike.

The dress, which featured a fitted bodice and full skirt, was a near-perfect replica of the one worn by Hepburn in the classic 1954 film. Trump paired the dress with matching gloves and a pearl necklace, completing the vintage-inspired look.

While some praised Trump for her nod to one of Hollywood’s most beloved icons, others criticized her for appropriating Hepburn’s style without acknowledging the actress’s cultural impact. Many pointed out that Hepburn was not just a fashion icon, but also a humanitarian and advocate for children’s rights.

Regardless of the controversy, there’s no denying that Ivanka Trump’s tribute to Audrey Hepburn was certainly a bold fashion statement. Whether it was a genuine homage or just a bid for attention, only time will tell.

  • Justin Baldoni’s Wife Emily Shares Birthday Tribute amid Blake Lively Lawsuits

Justin Baldoni’s wife Emily broke her silence amid his heated legal battle with Blake Lively in order to publicly wish him a happy birthday.

The It Ends With Us director-actor turned 41 on Friday, Jan. 24, and Emily, 40, paid tribute to him on Instagram, writing alongside a family photo: “Happy birthday my love. Celebrating the man, husband, and father that you are. I’d choose you again and again.”

Baldoni has been vacationing in Hawaii in recent days with Emily, whom he married in 2013, and their two kids, Maiya, 9, and Maxwell, 7.

In December, Lively, 37, sued Justin, accusing him of sexual harassment and orchestrating a retaliatory smear campaign against her. Bryan Freedman, a lawyer for Baldoni, has called her allegations “false, outrageous and intentionally salacious with an intent to publicly hurt.”

Filed months after rumors of behind-the-scenes strife on the set of the adaptation of the Colleen Hoover novel began, Lively’s complaint claimed that the actress “suffered from grief, fear, trauma, and extreme anxiety” due to Justin’s alleged actions, which included “invasive, unwelcome, unprofessional and sexually inappropriate behavior.”

In turn, Baldoni filed a $400 million lawsuit against Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, 48, and their publicist, claiming defamation and extortion.

Lively’s lawyers called the lawsuit “meritless” and “another chapter in the abuser playbook,” adding, “The strategy of attacking the woman is desperate, it does not refute the evidence in Ms. Lively’s complaint, and it will fail.”

After his lawsuit made headlines, Baldoni was approached by TMZ at the Los Angeles International Airport on Jan. 17 while traveling with his wife and kids. When asked how he was doing, he said, “Grateful to be with the family, man. We have amazing friends and family. And faith.”

Lively has not been spotted in public since the lawsuits, though Reynolds attended the National Board of Review gala on Jan. 7, spoke to students at Harvard Business School, and made a surprise appearance at friend Hugh Jackman’s opening night at Radio City on Jan. 24.

In a heartwarming birthday tribute, Justin Baldoni’s wife Emily shared a sweet message on social media amidst the ongoing lawsuits involving their close friend Blake Lively. Despite the legal battles, Emily took to Instagram to express her love and admiration for her husband, highlighting his kindness, generosity, and unwavering support.

In her post, Emily praised Justin for his dedication to his family and his commitment to creating a positive impact in the world. She also thanked him for being a loving partner and a wonderful father to their children.

The birthday tribute comes at a challenging time for the couple, as they navigate the complexities of the legal system and support their friend Blake Lively through her own struggles. Despite the hardships, Emily’s message serves as a reminder of the strength and resilience of their relationship, and the importance of standing by each other through thick and thin.

As the world continues to watch the legal drama unfold, Emily’s heartfelt tribute to Justin Baldoni is a touching reminder of the power of love and friendship in the face of adversity. It serves as a beacon of hope and positivity in a time of uncertainty, showing that no matter what challenges come their way, the bond between Justin and Emily remains unbreakable.

Audrey Hepburn’s Son Reacts to Ivanka Trump’s Dress Tribute

Ivanka Trump recently paid tribute to the iconic Audrey Hepburn by wearing a dress inspired by one of the actress’s most famous looks. The First Daughter donned a black gown with a high neck and long sleeves, reminiscent of Hepburn’s iconic style in the film “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.”

However, Hepburn’s son, Luca Dotti, has spoken out about Trump’s tribute, expressing mixed feelings about the gesture. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Dotti stated, “Ivanka is a beautiful woman and she looked lovely in the dress, but it’s hard to see someone trying to emulate my mother’s unique and timeless style.”

Dotti went on to say that while he appreciates the admiration for his mother’s fashion sense, he believes that Hepburn’s style was a reflection of her personality and individuality, not something to be replicated by others.

It seems that while Ivanka Trump’s tribute may have been well-intentioned, it may have missed the mark in the eyes of Audrey Hepburn’s son. It’s a reminder that true style is not just about the clothes we wear, but about the authenticity and grace we bring to them.
