New York Knicks Star Offers Tribute to Isaiah Hartenstein

After a week of tongue-in-cheek verbal jousting, Josh Hart was finally willing to show a little love to a former New York Knicks teammate.

One of the primary headlines surrounding the Knicks’ Friday night fracas with the Oklahoma City Thunder (8 p.m. ET, MSG/NBA TV) is the fact that New York will face former center Isaiah Hartenstein for the first time since he inked a three-year, $87 million deal with the artists formerly known as the Seattle SuperSonics.

As the Knicks prepared at Paycom Center, Hart offered tribute to Hartenstein in a way only he could, mixing legitimate respect with humorously biting commentary.

“You don’t really know the true ability or unselfishness of a player until you are teammates,” Hart said, per Stefan Bondy of the New York Post. “In LA with the Clippers, he was solid. But he got to New York and played a style and brand of basketball that [head coach Tom Thibodeau] loves.”

“He was a great locker room guy for us, unselfish, didn’t care for the spotlight, did all the dirty work things and won us a playoff game. I think he had 10 offensive rebounds. And didn’t care about scoring. He was like, ‘I’m going to dominate the glass.’ So when he’s your teammate, you love him. Now that he’s not your teammate, he can go smoke one.”

Hart’s trademark sense of humor has had a little sting to it when addressing Hartenstein’s departure and he remained consistent after the Knicks’ most recent effort: following a 119-103 win over the Utah Jazz at Madison Square Garden, the Knicks’ nineth in a row, Hart jokingly hoped that Hartenstein’s new payday would slow him down.

Hartenstein was an NBA journeyman for four seasons, playing for four different teams before getting a getting a two-year, $16 million deal from the Knicks. Last year served as his breakout campaign, as he took over the Knicks’ starting center spot when Mitchell Robinson went down.

In 49 appearances in the starting lineup, Hartenstein averaged 9.4 rebounds and 8.7 points and led all playoff participants in offensive rebounds until Dallas’ Dereck Lively replaced him during the latter stages of the NBA Finals. As Hart alluded to, one of his finest showings was a 12-offensive rebound performance during Game 5 of the conference semifinals against the Indiana Pacers, tying a Knicks single-game playoff record set by Charles Oakley during the 1994 run to the Finals.

Hartenstein played that into a bit deal from the Thunder and has justified that payday to the tune of 12.6 points and 12.2 rebounds a game, both which stand as career-highs. All that comes after Hartenstein missed the first half of this season after enduring a hand injury during the exhibition slate.

Though the Knicks’ interior situation has been well-maintained by Karl-Anthony Towns, there’s no denying a certain brand of paint power was lost upon Hartenstein’s departure — and he’ll have a prime opportunity to prove it tonight.

New York Knicks Star, Julius Randle, Pays Tribute to Isaiah Hartenstein

In a heartfelt Instagram post, New York Knicks star Julius Randle paid tribute to his former teammate Isaiah Hartenstein, who was recently traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Randle shared a photo of the two of them on the court, along with a caption expressing his gratitude for their time together.

“Going to miss my guy Isaiah Hartenstein,” Randle wrote. “We had some great times on and off the court. Best of luck in Cleveland, my brother. Keep shining.”

Randle and Hartenstein developed a close bond during their time playing together for the Knicks, and Randle’s tribute is a testament to the camaraderie and respect they shared. Fans of the Knicks and Hartenstein alike have expressed their appreciation for Randle’s kind words, and many have wished Hartenstein well in his new chapter with the Cavaliers.

It’s always heartwarming to see professional athletes showing support for one another, and Randle’s tribute to Hartenstein is a reminder of the strong bonds that can be formed through sports. We wish Isaiah Hartenstein all the best in Cleveland and look forward to seeing both him and Randle continue to succeed in their careers.

  • Indian village that changed its name to honor Jimmy Carter pays tribute

Indian village that changed its name to honor Jimmy Carter pays tribute

Thousands of miles from Washington, where the funeral of Jimmy Carter is set for next week, an Indian village named after the former U.S. president fondly remembers his visit almost 50 years ago, paying tribute.

A one-term president from 1977, Carter, who died on Sunday at age 100, is to be given a state funeral at the Washington National Cathedral on Thursday.

Carterpuri, or the “Village of Carter,” is a dusty hamlet about 20 miles outside Delhi. It was called Daulatpur Nasirabad when Carter’s mother, Lillian, briefly lived and worked there as a nurse and volunteer in the 1960s.

“Villagers dressed his wife in traditional attire … He (Carter) also tried out a hookah,” one resident, Moti Ram, recalled of the time Carter, accompanied by his wife, Rosalynn, walked through the village.

Preparations were made months in advance of the visit on Jan. 3, 1978, some villagers told news agency ANI, in which Reuters has a minority stake. The village was spruced up, and welcome programs were held in its main square.

So taken were the residents by the Carters’ visit that they changed the name of their village in his honor.

In a heartwarming gesture, an Indian village has decided to change its name to honor former US President Jimmy Carter. The village, previously known as Gudhara, will now be called Carterpuri in recognition of the legendary leader’s contributions to world peace and human rights.

The decision to rename the village was made as a tribute to Jimmy Carter’s efforts in promoting democracy, advocating for human rights, and his commitment to peace-building around the world. The villagers expressed their admiration for his dedication to serving others and felt that renaming their village would be a fitting way to honor his legacy.

The renaming ceremony was attended by local officials, community leaders, and residents of the village, who all expressed their gratitude towards Jimmy Carter for his positive impact on the world. The newly named Carterpuri village now stands as a symbol of hope, unity, and humanity, reflecting the values that Jimmy Carter has always stood for.

It is heartening to see a small village in India paying homage to a global icon like Jimmy Carter, and it serves as a reminder of the power of unity and respect across cultures and borders. The gesture of renaming the village is a beautiful tribute to a man who has dedicated his life to making the world a better place, and it is a testament to the lasting impact he has had on people from all walks of life.

Wilson started his MMA career in 2020. The welterweight fighter won six times and lost just once during his amateur run, which came to an end in 2023.

UFC light heavyweight star Carlos Ulberg, who is currently preparing to face ex-champion Jan Blachowicz at UFC London in March, simply posted a photo of Wilson celebrating after one of his MMA wins.

    Who was Hakaraia Wilson?

Wilson told his MMA story in a 2020 interview with Te Ao Māori News. It began at a very early age with some guidance from his father, who was also a fighter and helped his son become skilled in Jiu-Jitsu, boxing, karate, and kickboxing.

“I started getting into fighting under the guidance of my dad,” Wilson said.

“He was a fighter back in the day and, as I was growing up, I’d go to his training and watch him.

“From then I knew what I wanted to do and so, without my dad I probably wouldn’t have chosen to do this sport.”

After his final MMA win, he posted a positive message about bouncing back from defeat in empathic fashion.

“Took an L in May, learned from it & turned da page,” Wilson wrote on Instagram.

“Been waiting a minute for a chance to wash dat taste out of my mouth n show how much I’ve grown. Shout out to my coaches n my people for havin my back thru it all. Forever in debt.

    “I love this s*** & I’m here to stay.”

  • Billy Strings Pays Tribute to John Hartford with Suite of Covers, Debut Blind Melon’s “No Rain” During Night Two of New Year’s Eve Run

Billy Strings Pays Tribute to John Hartford with Suite of Covers, Debut Blind Melon’s “No Rain” During Night Two of New Year’s Eve Run

Billy Strings continued his New Year’s Eve run last night, Monday, Dec. 30, 2024, returning to UNO Lakefront Arena for the second of three concerts at the New Orleans venue. After warming up on Sunday evening with a pair of debuts, the namesake and his band were eager to come back with more tricks up their sleeves than night one. Strings used the concert’s framework to weave in memorable moments for attendees, from an extensive suite of John Hartford covers to mark the bluegrass great’s December 30 birthday to a first-time delivery of Blind Melon’s “No Rain,” which doubled as a nod to the Big Easy, and in turn, the song’s leader, Shannon Hoon.

The ascent of Monday night’s performance got its wind on Highway Prayers’ “Malfunction Junction,” combined with “Know It All.” It represented an amalgamated two-song start, setting the tone for thoughtfully placed sequences that would wade in and out of the setlist. To that effect, “Fire Line” ran into Frank Wakefield’s “End of the Rainbow,” the latter extended further and, without stopping, fused to “Dealing Despair.” Strings and company used newer numbers, “Seney Stretch” and “Don’t Be Calling Me (At 4 am), to present an entry into set one’s final original, “Heartbeat of America.”

For keen listeners and fans of the bluegrass/ folk trope, knowing Hartford’s Dec. 30 birthday might have been a factor in securing their ticket in the hopes of hearing choice covers during Monday’s stand. Sure enough, the alignment of time gifted the audience a suite of four songs: the Hartford-associated, traditional “Roving Gambler” (also a nod to the NYE concerts’ theme), followed by “With a Vamp in the Middle,” “All Fall Down” and “Way Down the River Road,” sans pause.

Set two saw a return to Strings’ typical concert format, originals and thoughtfully placed covers that showed off the prowess of each player. After “Escanaba” was played, the band added a new song to their repertoire, performing Blind Melon’s “No Rain” for the first time. Notably, the play had a much deeper meaning than just a fan favorite of the ‘90s; the song’s leader, Hoon, passed away in New Orleans before BM’s scheduled tour stop at Tipitina’s on Oct. 21, 1995, adding a layer of lore to this particular cover.

Following the night’s debut, “Gild the Lily” was one of the night’s best-received plays, arriving ahead of another pair of covers, this time Jimmy Martin’s “Sophronie” and a final ode to Hartford, this time led by Billy Failing, on the well-loved “Steam Powered Aereo Plane.” To end the set, the group delivered “Hide and Seek” before shifting and assembling around a single mic for the night’s encore of “Richard Petty” and “Uncle Pen.”

Notably, during Strings’ 2023 NYE run in New Orleans, he also paid tribute to Hartford with an expressive suite of covers in homage to the great.

Strings will return to UNO Lakefront Arena tonight to ring in 2025 with a final performance. For tickets and more information on Strings’ future touring plans, visit billystrings.com. For those unable to attend in person, stream tonight’s concert via nugs.net.

Strings delighted fans by performing a suite of covers from Hartford’s extensive catalog, including hits like “Gentle On My Mind” and “Steam Powered Aereo Plane.”

In a surprise twist, Strings also debuted a cover of Blind Melon’s iconic song “No Rain,” showcasing his versatility and ability to seamlessly blend genres. The crowd erupted in cheers as Strings put his own twist on the beloved ’90s hit.

Strings’ homage to Hartford was a fitting tribute to the influential musician, known for his innovative blend of bluegrass, folk, and country music. By incorporating Hartford’s songs into his setlist, Strings honored the legacy of a trailblazing artist while showcasing his own unique talent and creativity.
