Troye Sivan and Tour Dancers Play ‘Tap or Block’ in New Grindr Campaign
Tap or block?
That’s the inspiration behind Grindr‘s playful new campaign, featuring pop star Troye Sivan alongside dancers from his recent headlining tour.
The Jake Wilson-directed clip was filmed backstage on the last stop of Sivan’s Something to Give Each Other Tour and it co-stars Theo, Simone, Samuel, Ben, Ainsley and Mauro. “The rules are simple,” Sivan states before delivering the brief instructions of the game to the six seated in the room with him. “I’m going to read something out, if you’re into it you say, ‘Tap,’ if you’re not say, ‘Block.’”
Sivan then moderates the discussion as a way to celebrate “the diversity of queer experiences,” per Grindr. The questions are also pretty direct: Hotel sex? Super hairy? Nude next to object? Not showering after the gym? Satin sheets? Open couples? Strict dynamic? “Masc” in bio? Calls you bro or dude? The dancers deliver candid answers by leaning on the answers inspired by Grindr’s app functions.

“Dating and hooking up can be complex, sexy, messy, intoxicating and confusing,” Sivan told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement. “I love how Grindr and this campaign celebrate all of this with humour, honesty and through community. It’s refreshing to show these conversations in an authentic way.”
The clip was produced by Charlie Wilson and it features music by Leland. Luke Anderson, co-founder of Juxtapose Studio, led the creative vision for the new campaign, in what marks a re-teaming with Sivan after having worked with him on the music video for “Got Me Started,” which features Explorer Cold Brew. Sivan is currently nominated for a Grammy at Sunday’s awards telecast in the category of best dance pop recording for “Got Me Started.”

In a new campaign for Grindr, Troye Sivan and his tour dancers play a game of ‘Tap or Block’ to showcase the app’s features and promote safe interactions within the LGBTQ+ community. The video features Sivan and his dancers swiping through profiles on Grindr, deciding whether to tap on a profile to show interest or block a user for inappropriate behavior. The playful and lighthearted video aims to educate users on how to navigate the app responsibly and respectfully, while also highlighting the importance of setting boundaries and maintaining a safe online environment. Sivan and his dancers use their platform to promote positive interactions and encourage users to prioritize their safety and well-being while using dating apps.
Overall, the campaign serves as a fun and engaging way to promote Grindr’s values of inclusivity, diversity, and safety within the LGBTQ+ community, with Sivan and his dancers leading by example.

More than 30 years after Madonna: Truth or Dare, the documentary still has a hold on LGBTQ pop music and cinema.
In Troye Sivan‘s new Grindr campaign Tap or Block, directed by Jake Wilson and produced by Juxtapose Studio‘s Charlie Wilson (no relation), the Australian gay pop-star and his Something to Give Each Other Tour dancers discuss hotel sex, open relationships, communication and more as they pay tribute to the 1991 Alek Kesheshian and Mark Aldo Miceli-helmed documentary.
“What was really fun about this idea is it came around really organically,” Charlie Wilson tells Deadline. “Once we had Troye’s interest and Grindr’s interest, it seemed like such a natural segue from really hearing how proud Troye was about this tour and how close his relationship was with these dancers, and thinking about how Grindr is this boundary-pushing, sex-positive brand.”
He credited Tristan Pineiro, Grindr’s SVP Brand Marketing + Comms, with coming up with the concept, “something reminiscent of Madonna’s Truth or Dare, the iconic Barcelona scene where there’s the gay kiss and how Troye’s current relationship sort of mirrored that in an interesting way.”
Pineiro said the documentary was “a true awakening for so many of us,” adding, “Seeing gay people in mainstream media, talking about sex and intimacy was unheard of. So, when this opportunity with Troye, one of the biggest gay global icons, came up, Madonna’s impact was definitely something we wanted to pay homage to, while leaning into not only Troye’s and his dancers’ experiences, but the highly relatable behaviors and topics of discussion for our Grindr community.”
Documenting her controversial 1990 Blond Ambition World Tour, Truth or Dare served as an intimate behind-the-scenes look at Madonna’s relationships with her dancers, crew, friends and family, as well as then-boyfriend Warren Beatty.
Juxtapose has put $25,000 from the campaign toward writer and actor Andrew Chappelle‘s (Broadway’s Hamilton, The Tick, Blindspotting) upcoming short I’m Gonna Kill You, with matched funding from Google exec and film financier Kate Aitken. The short also received a $5,000 production grant last June when Chappelle won Inside Out 2SLGBTQ+ Film Festival‘s two-minute “Pitch, Please!” competition. Filming begins in May.
Chappelle describes I’m Gonna Kill You as “a gay erotic thriller that’s set in a post-apocalyptic … all-gay colony of men, and it explores the perils of monogamy.”
The short comes after last year’s Ripe!, which Juxtapose co-founder Luke Anderson produced alongside college friend, NWSL pro Kelley O’Hara, after re-investing funds from Juxtapose’s Dick’s Sporting Goods campaign, starring Will Arnett and Kathryn Hahn. Directed by Tusk, Ripe! won Tribeca Film Festival‘s Best Narrative Short.

Troye Sivan has revealed his dating “icks” in a risqué game of “tap or block” with his dancers as part of a new Grindr campaign.
Sivan, alongside his six touring dancers from the Something to Give Each Other tour, demonstrated the “tap or block” game – tapping for something you’re into, and giving a hard block for your dating “icks”.
For the “taps”, Sivan and dancers Mauro, Simone, Benjamin, Theo, Samuel, and Ainsley were in agreement that “hotel sex” is an absolute yes.
“We’d be celibate for seven months, which would be crazy,” Sivan said of life without hotel sex while on tour.
Among other “taps” were satin pillowcases, good communication and solid foreplay.
As for the dating “blocks”? Sivan and his dancers were in agreement that taking a nude selfie next to an object to show “scale” is a definite block, describing the act as “performative”.
A more divisive subject was body hair, with Sivan explaining that “super hairy” guys are “kind of hot”, and that his dating “ick” is when you can tell somebody’s shaved “all over”.
Sivan, who famously dispelled speculation that he was a ‘bottom’ after fans read into the racy lyrics for his single “Bloom”, also indicated that he prefers ‘strict dynamics’ with his sexual partners, answering, “Uhh, tap? Sure.”

As well as performing his own global tour, Something to Give Each Other, from May 2024 to December 2024, pop icon Troye Sivan also collaborated with Charli XCX on their joint Sweat tour, which began in September 2024 and will reportedly run until June this year.

Troye Sivan, the popular Australian singer and LGBTQ+ icon, has recently made headlines after revealing his preference for hairy guys in a bold new Grindr campaign.
In a series of provocative ads, Sivan can be seen posing seductively alongside hairy men, with slogans like “Hair today, hot tomorrow” and “Fur real love” plastered across the images.
The campaign, which aims to celebrate body hair and challenge traditional beauty standards within the gay community, has sparked a heated debate online. While some fans have praised Sivan for his openness and authenticity, others have criticized the ads for perpetuating stereotypes and objectifying men.
Regardless of the controversy, one thing is clear: Troye Sivan is unapologetically embracing his love for hairy guys, and encouraging others to do the same. Whether you’re a smooth operator or a hairy beast, Sivan’s message is clear: love yourself, and love who you love.

Troye Sivan embraced the “geek chic” aesthetic at Prada‘s fall 2025 menswear show on Sunday in Milan. The manner of dress prescribes a fashionable spin on stereotypically nerdy staples such as eyeglasses, sweater vests and high-waisted trousers.
Sivan wore a full look from the Italian label’s spring 2025 men’s collection, which consisted of a brown leather jacket paired with a layered blue and gray sweater. Belted pleated wool pants, black brogues and round spectacles topped off his look.

The Australian singer is no stranger to the fashion world: in July, he became Rabanne’s first global makeup brand ambassador, fronting a campaign for their Fresh Touch foundation.
“My first interaction was wearing the fashion and always just really loving it and feeling very playful and excited about the clothes, then incorporating them into some special moments for me and music videos,” Sivan told WWD.
On his “Something to Give Each Other” tour, Sivan wore a metallic chainmail jumpsuit and matching bandanna around his neck. Rabanne creative director Julien Dossena and the brand’s studio designed two custom outfits for Sivan’s fifth headlining jaunt.

As reported by WWD’s Miles Socha, Prada’s latest men’s collection leaned into “creativity without overthinking,” per designer Miuccia Prada.
“We saw caveman collars of fluffy, but raggedly cut shearling; thrift-shop and vintage tablecloth florals and plaids on shrunken T-shirts, trench coats and offbeat freestanding hoods; leather bowling bags so weathered they might have seen tournaments since the ’60s; truly homely brown sweaters, and narrow dress pants and pajama bottoms tugged over colorful cowboy boots,” wrote Socha.

Are Charli xcx and Troye Sivan the modern-day Sonny and Cher? Maybe so. In case you haven’t been following their careers, the bond between Charli and Sivan dates back years, and actually sparked after they met at a house party (which is the best way to meet friends, right?). Sure, Charli reached new heights of fame in 2024 after debuting Brat and its follow-up remix album (which included a feature from Sivan himself). But their joint Sweat Tour, was a beautiful, long-time-coming IRL collaboration between two of the best pop artists in the game right now.
While some artists use their friendships to boost their fame and record sales (I’m looking at you two, Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter), Charli and Sivan have always had an organic, real relationship. From their chance first meeting to their pathway to the Sweat Tour, here is the timeline of Charli xcx and Troye Sivan’s friendship.
Charli and Troye met at a house party he wasn’t even invited to.
How else would two party Gods meet each other than at a party? Yes, it’s true: Charli and Sivan met when she was hosting a house party that he wasn’t technically invited to. During an April 2024 appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers, the “Rush” singer said he “somehow ended up” at one of Charli’s infamous house parties one night where they first met.
After crossing paths in the kitchen of her Los Angeles home, Charli said she “didn’t know” Sivan was attending the get-together, but was admittedly “quite starstruck” when she met him. While the pair didn’t clarify what year this infamous party was, Architectural Digest reported Charli had moved into the home in 2015, so it’s safe to say they met sometime after that.
October 2018: They released their first collab, “1999.”
Charli and Sivan joined forces creatively for the first time in October 2018 with the release of their pop hit “1999.” In an October 2018 interview with Vice, the “360” songstress revealed they “spoke about doing a song together in the future” after their first meeting which led to her sending over a demo of “1999” — which Sivan loved.
“It’s cool because I wasn’t sure whether I was gonna keep it for myself, but the fact that Troye was into it made me reconsider,” she said. “He did a verse and wrote his middle eight and then it just… happened.”
On Oct. 11, 2018, they released the music video for the ‘90s-inspired hit, which paid tribute to some of the most iconic references from the decade. With shots of Charli and Sivan as Jack and Rose from the Titanic, clips of the “Got Me Started” singer cosplaying as the Backstreet Boys, and Charli recreating the Spice Girls’s “Say You’ll Be There” video, it’s one of the best music videos I’ve ever seen with two modern popstars paying tribute to those who paved the way for them.
September 2019: They released “1999’s” follow-up with “2099.”
Charli and Sivan followed up “1999” roughly one year later with the release of “2099.” While the track didn’t receive the same acclaim as its predecessor, it’s another example of just how well this duo collaborates together. It set the stage and solidified the power that these two have together as not just a pop group, but a sporadic pop duet who, at their core, are best friends.
April 2024: Charli and Troye announce the Sweat Tour.
During Charli’s summer Brat Tour, the duo announced their joint Sweat Tour on April 17, 2024. With a little over 20 shows planned for the tour, fans had a few months to prepare for what became one of the best collaborative tours in recent history. Yes, I may be biased, but it was truly so smart for Charli and Sivan to come together for this collaborative show, giving fans a 2-for-1 deal with two incredible pop artists.
September 2024: Troye is featured on the “Talk Talk” remix.
While fans waited for Charli and Sivan’s Sweat Tour to kick off in the Fall 2024, the singers fed us all with the surprise release of the “Talk Talk” remix. After rumors swirled that Dua Lipa would be the featured artist on the remixed track, Charli stunned everyone with a brief voice memo of Lipa and Sivan’s signature sound on what became one of my favorite songs of the year.
Sept. – Oct. 2024: Charli and Troye embark on their iconic Sweat Tour.
Charli and Sivan officially embarked on their long-awaited Sweat Tour in September 2024. There, they took turns performing their respective tracks and beloved collaborations. They even managed to create viral moment after viral moment each night of the tour. From Charli bringing out Lorde during the tour’s New York City stop to fans eagerly waiting to see which celebrity or influencer would perform the “Apple” dance each night, the Sweat Tour was an unforgettable experience, and one of the defining pop culture moments in 2024.
Both Charli and Sivan were sad (to say the least) when the tour commenced in October, so much so that they briefly extended the tour at the 2025 Primavera Sound Barcelona festival with Charli xcx & Troye Sivan Present: SWEAT. However, to close out the significance of this era, Charli paid tribute to the tour on Instagram with a heartfelt message penned to her co-headliner.
“Troye was such a massive part of making these shows so fun and exciting and unforgettable,” she wrote. “Troye – you’re one of a kind, I love you so much, you inspire me constantly and I am so so so beyond happy we got to do this together. Sweat tour is one of a kind.”
Charli XCX and Troye Sivan have been serving up pop perfection for years now, but did you know that their friendship goes back even further? Let’s take a look at their timeline of friendship:2013: Charli XCX and Troye Sivan first crossed paths in 2013, when they both performed at the MTV EMAs in Amsterdam. They hit it off right away and bonded over their love of all things pop music.
2014: The following year, Charli and Troye collaborated on the track “1999,” which would become a fan favorite and a staple in their live shows. The song’s nostalgic lyrics and infectious beat solidified their friendship even more.
2015: In 2015, Charli and Troye teamed up again for the track “Doing It,” which was featured on Charli’s album “Sucker.” The song was a certified bop and further cemented their status as musical collaborators.
2018: Fast forward to 2018, and Charli and Troye joined forces once again for the infectious banger “1999.” The song was a hit and further solidified their status as a dynamic duo in the pop music world.
2020: Most recently, Charli and Troye have continued to support each other’s music and careers, with Troye even making a cameo in Charli’s music video for “Claws.” Their friendship has stood the test of time and continues to thrive in the world of pop music.
From collaborating on hit songs to supporting each other’s careers, Charli XCX and Troye Sivan’s friendship is a true testament to the power of music and friendship. Here’s to many more years of pop perfection from this dynamic duo!
