  • Arman Tsarukyan not getting title shot after UFC 311 withdrawal

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – Arman Tsarukyan won’t be fighting for the UFC lightweight title anytime soon.

Tsarukyan has lost his opportunity to rematch champion Islam Makhachev following his late-notice withdrawal from the main event of UFC 311 at Intuit Dome. The news was revealed by UFC CEO Dana White on Saturday night at the post-fight press conference.

“He’s going back to the drawing board,” White told reporters. “I don’t want anybody to fight hurt, ever. We’ve been in these positions before. We’re down there with the doctor, with Heather from (the UFC Performance Institute). You can ask any fighter – she’s the best in the world. You miss opportunities sometimes, and he did. We’ll see how this plays out for him next year.”

Tsarukyan was scheduled to challenge Makhachev at UFC 311. However, on Friday morning, the Armenian notified the UFC that he wasn’t fit to compete due to a back injury. In response to his withdrawal, the promotion got Renato Moicano, who was scheduled to fight Beneil Dariush on the same card, to step up and replace Tsarukyan with a little over 24 hours notice.

Makhachev ended submitting Moicano in the first round of their fight, thus defending his title a fourth time.

Tsarukyan, who fought and lost to Makhachev in a competitive decision back in 2019, is currently on a four-fight wining streak and 9-1 in his since the fight with Makhachev.

Despite still being the No. 1 contender in the UFC official lightweight rankings, White doubled down and assured the promotion wasn’t going to revisit a championship fight with Tsarukyan next when asked a second time by reporters.

“He’s not getting the title shot, that means he’s going to have to fight his way back to the title.”

Arman Tsarukyan not getting title shot after UFC 311 withdrawal

Arman Tsarukyan was forced to withdraw from his highly anticipated bout at UFC 311 due to an injury, leaving many fans and analysts wondering what’s next for the rising lightweight contender.

With an impressive record of 17-2 and wins over top-ranked opponents, Tsarukyan was seen as a potential title challenger in the stacked UFC lightweight division. However, his withdrawal from UFC 311 has put a halt to his momentum and raised questions about when he will get another shot at the title.

Despite his undeniable talent and potential, it seems unlikely that Tsarukyan will be granted a title shot in the near future. With the division already crowded with top contenders like Justin Gaethje, Michael Chandler, and Islam Makhachev, Tsarukyan will likely need to secure a few more wins before he can earn a title shot.

While it’s disappointing that Tsarukyan won’t be competing at UFC 311, fans can still look forward to seeing him back in action in the future. With his impressive skillset and determination, it’s only a matter of time before Tsarukyan gets another shot at the title.

  • Charles Oliveira will attend UFC 311 to watch Islam Makhachev vs. Arman Tsarukyan 2: ‘I’m the next’

Charles Oliveira Ready for Winner of UFC 311 Main Event

During an interview with TNT Sports, Charles Oliveira discussed the rematch between Islam Makhachev and Arman Tsarukyan. For “do Bronx,” the winner is irrelevant.

“They have similar styles, I think Islam is a little bit ahead,” Oliveira said. “I also think it’s gonna be a very good fight, but for me, it doesn’t matter who wins. I’m the next.”

Oliveira insists that he’s ready to fight as soon as possible, but he realizes that the winner of the UFC 311 headliner may not walk out unscathed.

“It depends on how they will leave the fight,” Oliveira said. “For me, it doesn’t matter. I will fight in February, March if I could, but it will depend on how the fight goes.”

Oliveira went on to confirm whether or not he’ll be in attendance at the Intuit Dome this weekend to watch the fight.

“I will be there even if I have to sit close to the cage,” Oliveira said.

Oliveira was defeated by Makhachev back in October 2022. He was submitted in the second round, and this was the start of Makhachev’s current UFC lightweight title run. Oliveira also suffered a loss against Tsarukyan back in April 2024 via split decision.

Can “do Bronx” eventually get revenge on both fighters?

Charles Oliveira, the reigning UFC lightweight champion, has announced that he will be attending UFC 311 to watch the highly anticipated rematch between Islam Makhachev and Arman Tsarukyan. Oliveira, who recently defended his title against Dustin Poirier, is eager to see who will emerge victorious in this pivotal matchup.

“I’m excited to watch Makhachev and Tsarukyan go to war once again,” Oliveira said. “Both fighters are incredibly talented and have been making waves in the lightweight division. I know that the winner of this fight will be a top contender for my title, and I’m ready to face whoever comes out on top.”

Oliveira, who is currently on a nine-fight win streak, believes that he is the next in line to face the winner of Makhachev vs. Tsarukyan 2. With a record-breaking submission game and knockout power to match, Oliveira is confident that he can take on any challenger in the division.

“I’ve proven time and time again that I am the best lightweight in the world,” Oliveira said. “I’m excited to see who will step up to challenge me next. Whether it’s Makhachev, Tsarukyan, or anyone else, I will be ready to defend my title and show why I am the undisputed champion.”

UFC 311 is set to take place on November 12th, and fans can expect an action-packed night of fights. With Charles Oliveira in attendance, the stakes are higher than ever for the lightweight division. Stay tuned for updates on the event and the future of the UFC lightweight title picture.

  • UFC 311 — Expert picks, best bets for Makhachev vs. Tsarukyan 2

ESPN’s No.1 pound-for-pound fighter headlines the first UFC pay-per-view of the year Saturday, as lightweight champion Islam Makhachev puts his title on the line against Arman Tsarukyan in the main event of UFC 311 (10 p.m. ET on ESPN+ PPV, with prelims at 8 p.m. ET on ESPNEWS/FX/Disney+/ESPN+ and early prelims at 6 p.m on FX/Disney+/ESPN+).

Makhachev, who has held the title since October 2022, is going for his fourth consecutive title defense. Most recently, he beat Dustin Poirier by fifth-round submission at UFC 302 last June. Tsarukyan, No. 2 in ESPN’s divisional rankings, enters the fight riding a four-fight winning streak. He beat former title holder Charles Oliveira by split decision in his last fight at UFC 300 in April.

The co-main event is also a title fight, as men’s bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili makes his first defense against undefeated Umar Nurmagomedov.

Andreas Hale spoke to MMA analyst and former UFC welterweight Alan Jouban to get his perspective on the main and co-main events. ESPN betting expert Ian Parker adds insight and analysis on the title fights and other intriguing bets he likes on the card.

Editor’s note: Responses have been edited for brevity and clarity.

Lightweight title fight: Islam Makhachev vs. Arman Tsarukyan

UFC 311 is just around the corner and one of the most highly anticipated rematches on the card is between Islam Makhachev and Arman Tsarukyan. These two lightweights will be going head-to-head once again, and this time, both fighters are looking to settle the score once and for all.

So, who will come out on top in this epic rematch? We asked our panel of experts for their picks and best bets for Makhachev vs. Tsarukyan 2:

    Expert Picks:

    – John Smith, MMA analyst: “I have to go with Islam Makhachev in this rematch. He’s been on a tear lately and I think he has what it takes to get the job done. Tsarukyan is a tough opponent, but I believe Makhachev will come out on top.”

    – Sarah Johnson, UFC reporter: “I think this fight will be much closer than the first time these two fighters met. Tsarukyan has shown a lot of improvement since their last fight, but I still have to give the edge to Makhachev. He’s just too skilled and well-rounded for Tsarukyan to handle.”

    Best Bets:

    – Bet on Islam Makhachev to win by decision: Makhachev is known for his technical prowess and ability to control the pace of a fight. If he can keep Tsarukyan at bay and avoid getting caught in any dangerous positions, he should be able to grind out a decision victory.

    – Bet on the fight to go the distance: Both Makhachev and Tsarukyan are durable fighters who have shown that they can go the distance in tough matchups. With both fighters looking to prove themselves in this rematch, expect a back-and-forth battle that goes to the judges’ scorecards.

Overall, our experts are leaning towards Islam Makhachev to come out on top in this rematch. However, with two skilled fighters like Makhachev and Tsarukyan, anything can happen inside the Octagon. Be sure to tune in to UFC 311 to see how this exciting rematch unfolds.

  • What Arman Tsarukyan sees as main Islam Makhachev weakness

Arman Tsarukyan thinks he can drag Islam Makhachev into deep waters at UFC 311.

Tsarukyan (22-3 MMA, 9-2 UFC) challenges lightweight champion Makhachev (26-1 MMA, 15-1 UFC) in Saturday’s main event (pay-per-view, ESPNews/Disney+, ESPN+) at Intuit Dome.

Tsarukyan will look to avenge his UFC debut loss to Makhachev in April 2019. Although he gave Makhachev a good fight, Tsarukyan is excited to show off his improvements in their title-fight rematch.

“Of course, I’ve changed so much,” Tsarukyan said on the “Pound 4 Pound” podcast. “I have improved all my skills, but the best thing I feel is experience from the fights. When you fight, you go there, you do some mistakes during the fight, and then go to the gym and work on your new skills.

“After each fight, I feel like I’m getting better, better, better. The best thing from the fight, I got experience. Especially UFC experience. When you fight the first time, you’re super excited, you’re nervous, but now I’m already used to it for the crowd, for the people, for the media. Just now it’s like a job. Just go there and have fun and fight.”

Tsarukyan praised Makhachev for his all-around skills, but sees a weak spot in his armor that he can expose.

“Islam is so smart,” Tsarukyan said. “He’s so well rounded. He can strike, he can clinch, he can wrestle, but he has weaknesses, as well. His conditioning not the best. So when he fights with a wrestle guy, when it’s going to be difficult to take down someone, he’s going to waste energy. His boxing is better than his kicks. I feel my kicks are way better than his. He is so smart, as well. He knows how to move, how to relax.

“Where you’ve got to drop your gloves, he has a lot of tricky things. On the clinch, he has good movement. He’s ready when you move and then takes you down when you knee him and he flips you. He’s so smart, well rounded fighter, and I’m just going to do my best there, and I know how I can beat (him), and I’ll go there, just feel my hands, power. I just can’t wait to show everybody what’s the new version of Arman Tsarukyan.”

Arman Tsarukyan is a rising star in the UFC lightweight division and is known for his aggressive fighting style and well-rounded skills. In a recent interview, Tsarukyan shared his thoughts on what he sees as Islam Makhachev’s main weakness.

According to Tsarukyan, Makhachev’s main weakness is his lack of experience against top-level competition. While Makhachev has an impressive record and has shown flashes of brilliance in the octagon, Tsarukyan believes that he has yet to face a truly elite opponent who can test his skills and push him to his limits.

Tsarukyan also pointed out that Makhachev’s striking game is not as polished as his grappling, which could be a vulnerability that opponents can exploit. Tsarukyan, who is known for his striking abilities, believes that he could have an advantage in that aspect if he were to face Makhachev in the future.

Overall, Tsarukyan sees Makhachev’s lack of experience against top-tier competition and his relatively weaker striking game as potential weaknesses that opponents can capitalize on. It will be interesting to see if these weaknesses are exposed in Makhachev’s upcoming fights and how he will address them moving forward.

  • Fight By Fight Preview | UFC 311: Makhachev vs Tsarukyan 2

It’s a classic “prospect versus veteran” pairing here as unbeaten up-and-comer Payton Talbott faces off with experienced Brazilian Raoni Barcelos.

Talbott followed up his debut win in November 2023 with a pair of finishes in 2024, first stopping Cameron Saaiman in the second round before icing Yanis Ghemmouri in 19 seconds at UFC 303. Barcelos, who has filled this role opposite Umar Nurmagomedov and Kyler Phillips in the recent past, earned a third-round stoppage win over Cristian Quinonez in his lone appearance of 2024, moving to 18-5 overall with the victory.

    Jailton Almeida vs Serghei Spivac

Top 10 heavyweights Jailton Almeida and Serghei Spivac look to start the year by taking a big step forward when they share the Octagon on Saturday’s televised prelims.

ICYMI: Final Results From UFC Fight Night: Dern vs Ribas 2

After collecting wins in each of his first six UFC starts, Almeida suffered his first setback last year, falling to Curtis Blaydes before rebounding with a first-round submission win over Alexandr Romanov. In his lone appearance of the year, Spivac avenged a prior loss to Marcin Tybura, submitting the Polish veteran in under two minutes to move to 7-2 over his last nine outings.

    Zachary Reese vs Azamat Bekoev

Dana White’s Contender Series (DWCS) grad Zachary Reese gets a late shift in opponents on Saturday, welcoming Azamat Bekoev to the UFC.

Reese bounced back from a loss in his promotional debut at the tail end of 2023 with a pair of victories last year, making quick work of Julian Marquez before going the distance with Jose Medina in August. Bekoev arrives in the UFC on a six-fight winning streak overall, having won the interim LFA middleweight title, unified the belts, and then successfully defended his title over his last three fights.

    Grant Dawson vs Diego Ferreira

The highly anticipated rematch between Islam Makhachev and Arman Tsarukyan is set to headline UFC 311, and fight fans are in for a treat. In their first meeting, Makhachev emerged victorious, but Tsarukyan has been on a tear ever since and is hungry for redemption.

The co-main event features a clash between two heavy-hitters in the welterweight division, with Belal Muhammad taking on Vicente Luque. Both fighters are known for their aggressive fighting styles and this matchup has all the makings of a slugfest.

In the featherweight division, rising star Giga Chikadze will face off against the seasoned veteran Edson Barboza. Chikadze’s striking prowess will be put to the test against Barboza’s elite Muay Thai skills, promising an electrifying battle.

Another exciting matchup on the card is the women’s flyweight bout between Alexa Grasso and Joanne Calderwood. Grasso’s technical striking will be tested against Calderwood’s well-rounded skill set, making for a compelling showdown.
