  • Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa out for Miami’s game against Browns

Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa out for Miami’s game against Browns

CLEVELAND (AP) — The Miami Dolphins will try to keep their slim playoff hopes alive without starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

A hip injury is keeping Tagovailoa out of Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns (3-12). The Dolphins (7-8) have to win to stay alive in the AFC wild-card race. And even if they do beat the Browns, they’ll need some outside help.

Miami will conclude the regular season next weekend at the New York Jets.

Tagovailoa was downgraded to doubtful on Saturday after being limited in practice all week by the hip, which he injured on Dec. 15 against Houston. It’s the latest medical setback for Tagovailoa, who was sidelined earlier this season with a concussion.

Tyler Huntley will start for Miami and face the Browns, who signed him as a free agent in March and released him at the end of training camp. This will be Huntley’s fourth start this season.

The Dolphins will also be without wide receiver Jaylen Waddle because of a knee injury. He has 54 catches for 700 yards and two touchdowns.

The Dolphins scooped up the 26-year-old Huntley after Tagovailoa suffered the third documented concussion of his pro career in September. Huntley spent four seasons as Lamar Jackson’s backup in Baltimore.

Huntley is 4-8 as a starter. He’s completed 63.7% of his passes with nine touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will not be suiting up for the team’s upcoming game against the Cleveland Browns. Tagovailoa is dealing with a rib injury that will keep him sidelined for this crucial matchup.

This news comes as a blow to the Dolphins, who were hoping to have their starting quarterback back in action after missing the previous game. With Tagovailoa out, backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett will be stepping in to lead the offense.

It will be interesting to see how the Dolphins adjust to Tagovailoa’s absence and if Brissett can step up and deliver a strong performance against a tough Browns defense. Fans will be eagerly watching to see how this game unfolds without their star quarterback on the field.

  • NFL Week 17 injury tracker: Tua Tagovailoa downgraded to doubtful, Joe Flacco to start for Colts

NFL Week 17 injury tracker: Tua Tagovailoa downgraded to doubtful, Joe Flacco to start for Colts

Perhaps the only thing longer than a Christmas wishlist are NFL injury reports, especially this late in the season. Every team is dealing with some sort of injury issue with the regular season nearing a close.

The Eagles will be without Jalen Hurts for Saturday’s game against the Cowboys. Hurts, who is still in the concussion protocol, will watch as backup quarterback Kenny Pickett will try to help Philadelphia clinch a spot in the NFC playoffs. Their opponent will be without wideout CeeDee Lamb, who was shut down for the year earlier this week.

Miami has downgraded Tua Tagovailoa to doubtful at Cleveland due to a hip injury, per report. Tagovailoa is pushing to play Sunday, but if he can’t, Tyler Huntley would be in line to replace him.

Below is a full rundown of each team’s final Week 17 injury report. We’ll be updating this throughout the evening as more injury reports come in.

Higgins’ health reportedly improved as the week progressed. Given the importance of Saturday’s game (the Bengals need a win in order to keep their playoff hopes alive), the expectation is that Higgins will at least try to give it a go.

Each of Arizona’s questionable players were limited all week. Conner is reportedly trending in the right direction regarding his status against the Rams.

The biggest news out of Philadelphia is that Hurts will be sidelined, leaving Kenny Pickett to lead the offense. For the Cowboys, Tolbert and Brooks were both limited the past two days. Expect increased targets for fellow wideouts Brandin Cooks and KaVontae Turpin.

Hubbard and Legette were limited the past two days. In Tampa, Johnson, Whitehead and Britt were full practice participants all week.

Adams was limited on Friday after not practicing the previous two days. Adams is hoping to play so he can possibly catch Aaron Rodgers‘ 500th career touchdown pass. Adams caught Rodgers’ 200 and 400th touchdown passes during their time together in Green Bay.

In Buffalo, each of the team’s questionable players were limited throughout the week.

Richardson did not practice all week. Given that, it’s certainly possible that the Colts’ offense will be led once again by Joe Flacco, the soon-to-be 40-year-old who temporarily replaced Richardson in the starting lineup earlier this season.

In New York, Nabers was limited on Friday after not practicing the previous two days. Giants head coach Brian Daboll said that he is hopeful that Nabers will suit up against the Colts.

The Raiders had a short injury report this week, with just Meredith given a game designation. For the Saints, it’s possible that Kamara has played his final down this season, given his injury and the fact that the Saints are out of playoff contention. Look for second-year running back Kendre Miller to get an expanded role in the offense from here on out.

None of the Titans’ questionable players were able to practice on Friday.

Waddle was limited the past two days after not practicing on Wednesday. Hill and Tagovailoa were limited all week. Their statuses may be determined by what happens on Saturday. Miami will be eliminated from playoff contention if the Chargers and Broncos both win.

Watson didn’t practice all week. Despite that, Packers coach Matt LaFleur has kept the door open for Watson to play as he his health has continued to improve.

For the Vikings, Pace was a full participant all week, so his chances of playing are looking good.

Allen will likely be activated off of injured reserve as he was a full participant all week.

In the latest injury news heading into Week 17 of the NFL season, Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been downgraded to doubtful for their matchup against the New England Patriots. Tagovailoa is dealing with a thumb injury and it appears that he may not be able to suit up for this crucial game.

Meanwhile, the Indianapolis Colts will be starting veteran quarterback Joe Flacco in place of the injured Carson Wentz. Wentz suffered a foot injury in Week 16 and will be unable to play in the Colts’ must-win game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Stay tuned for more updates on these and other key injuries as we head into the final week of the NFL regular season.

Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa (hip) downgraded to doubtful vs. Browns; Tyler Huntley in line to start

There’s a good chance the Miami Dolphins will be without their starting quarterback in Week 17.

Tua Tagovailoa (hip) is being downgraded to doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported on Saturday, per sources. The Dolphins QB was initially deemed questionable to play on Friday’s injury report.

In the event of Tagovailoa being unable to play, backup Tyler Huntley would be slated to start in a crucial game where only a win will keep Miami’s playoff hopes alive.

The Dolphins also elevated Skylar Thompson to the active roster from the practice squad on Saturday.

Around The NFL will have more on the Dolphins’ QB news shortly.

The Miami Dolphins may be without their starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa this weekend as he has been downgraded to doubtful for their matchup against the Cleveland Browns. Tagovailoa is dealing with a hip injury that has limited his practice participation throughout the week.

In his place, backup quarterback Tyler Huntley is in line to start for the Dolphins. Huntley, who was signed by Miami earlier this season, has seen limited action in relief of Tagovailoa but will now have the opportunity to lead the offense against a tough Browns defense.

The Dolphins will have to rely on their running game and defense to keep them in the game if Tagovailoa is unable to suit up. It will be a tough challenge for Huntley, but he will have the support of his teammates as they look to secure a much-needed victory.

Stay tuned for more updates on Tagovailoa’s status and how the Dolphins plan to adjust their game plan without their starting quarterback.

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has reportedly been downgraded to doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns with a hip injury, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Schefter noted Tagovailoa “still is pushing to play,” but would be replaced by Tyler Huntley if he cannot take part in the game.

Tagovailoa missed four games earlier this season due to a concussion suffered during a Week 2 loss to the Buffalo Bills. He cleared the concussion protocol ahead of Week 8.

The previous injury marked the third diagnosed concussion of his NFL career, including two suffered during the 2022 season. Tagovailoa was also diagnosed with a concussion while playing for Alabama.

Tagovailoa told reporters ahead of Week 8 that he had been free of concussion symptoms since the day after the loss to the Bills.

He also said he would make the “personal choice” not wear a Guardian Cap, the soft-shell helmet covering that the NFL has reported is associated with decreased concussion risk. ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques noted that Tagovailoa wears a specially-designed quarterback helmet with a higher safety grade than a regular helmet covered by the Guardian Cap.

After earning his first Pro Bowl nomination by leading the NFL with 4,624 passing yards in 2023, Tagovailoa started out the 2024 campaign by completing fewer than 65 percent of his passes for 483 yards, two touchdowns and three picks prior to his Week 2 concussion.

Huntley and Skylar Thompson earned starts during his IR stint but were unable to spark the Dolphins’ offense in Tagovailoa’s offense.

In four games without Tagovailoa, the Dolphins scored 40 total points and recorded a 1-3 record. Through Week 7 the Dolphins were averaging 11.7 points per game, the fewest in the NFL and a significant drop from last season’s average of 27.9 points.

The Dolphins’ scoring rates recovered quickly following Tagovailoa’s return. He has upped his pass completion rate to over 72 percent while throwing for 2,867 yards with 19 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 11 starts this season.

Miami’s struggles without Tagovailoa made it clear that this team’s faint hopes of a playoff bid hinge on their starter’s availability. Given his injury history, the Dolphins will also need to consider Tagovailoa’s long-term health when managing his return to the field.

The Miami Dolphins may be without their star quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, for their upcoming matchup against the Cleveland Browns. According to reports, Tagovailoa is doubtful to play due to a hip injury.

This news comes as a blow to the Dolphins, who have been relying on Tagovailoa to lead their offense. The young quarterback has shown promise in his rookie season, but now Miami will have to turn to their backup QB to try and secure a win against the Browns.

Fans will be eagerly awaiting updates on Tagovailoa’s status and hoping for a speedy recovery. In the meantime, the Dolphins will need to rally together and find a way to come out on top in this crucial game.

    Tua Tagovailoa Listed as questionable

Tagovailoa (hip) is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game at Cleveland.

A limited practice participant throughout the week, Tagovailoa seems more likely than not to play, especially because Miami remains in the hunt for a wild-card spot. Still, fantasy managers should at least consider the possibility Tagovailoa lands on the inactive list ahead of Sunday’s 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff, in which case Tyler Huntley would step in as Miami’s starting quarterback. Starting wideouts Tyreek Hill (wrist) and Jaylen Waddle (knee) also are listed as questionable, although Hill is in the same boat as Tagovailoa (i.e., it’ll be a surprise if he doesn’t play). Waddle is the one who appears truly questionable/uncertain, having missed the team’s Week 16 win over San Francisco.
