Warning! The following contains spoilers for the 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days episode “The Choice.” Stream it with a Max subscription and read at your own risk!
In a season with plenty of low points and a largely unlikable cast for my own interests, Vanja Grbic has me once again believing in happy endings for international romances. After her relationship with Božo Vrdoljak died on the vine within the first few days of her arrival in Croatia, she unintentionally fell for Joško Luketin on a rebound date. Honestly, the match seems perfect, but a brief look at what’s ahead has me worried these two won’t last long enough to be featured in a spinoff set for the 2025 TV schedule.
“The Choice” featured a great moment where Vanja and Joško officially became a couple while acknowledging that neither of them had felt the same kind of instant chemistry in any prior relationships. It was enough to wash the bad taste of Loren Allen‘s shocking proposal out of my mouth, but now I’m getting another sour taste after seeing the preview for next week’s episode.
The Preview Hinted At Issues For Vanja And Josko In The Next Episiode
90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days showed that Vanja and Joško’s story will continue beyond Croatia, as we saw clips of him visiting her back in Orlando, Florida. She notes in her confessional that things were going well during the trip, but then something shocking apparently happened that caused Joško to sit on her couch with his head in his hands, without any further context given.
Are Vanja And Joško Still Together?
We can only speculate on what is troubling Joško in that brief clip, but there is some seemingly positive news to share on this 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days couple. A quick look at her Instagram account shows that Joško is one of her followers, which is always a good sign. While his personal account is private, we see that Vanja at least follows his personal training page. I’m not sure they’d still be connected anywhere if they were not still seeing each other.
I’m willing to bet that Vanja and Joško are still together, and maybe he was stressed out because he watched that scene of Brian Muniz talking to his sister about sex. Jokes aside, I hope things worked out for these too, because 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days Season 7 has been a real bummer thus far.
I guess it’s not quite as depressing as seeing married 90 Day couples split, but I’m beginning to wonder if any of these couples will make it to the next season of 90 Day Fiancé. This is where the show gets the talent it needs to make all the other spinoffs, so it’s not a good sign that it’s looking like many couples won’t be moving forward in their relationships.
Your Daily Blend of Entertainment News
90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days airs on TLC on Sundays at 8:00 p.m. ET. For more on this shocking season, be sure to look into Loren’s true intentions he leaked before he ever went to film scenes with Faith Tulod.
Vanja Just Gave 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days Season 7 The Unexpected Happy Story Fans Needed, But Will It Last?
Fans of 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days were in for a pleasant surprise this season when Vanja and her partner found themselves in a surprisingly happy and drama-free relationship. After years of watching couples struggle with cultural differences, trust issues, and family drama, Vanja and her partner’s love story seemed like a breath of fresh air.
From their first meeting to their engagement, Vanja and her partner’s relationship has been filled with love, laughter, and genuine connection. They have overcome obstacles together and supported each other through thick and thin, making them one of the most beloved couples on the show.
But as fans know, in the world of 90 Day Fiancé, happy endings are never guaranteed. Will Vanja and her partner be able to maintain their blissful relationship once the cameras stop rolling? Will they be able to navigate the challenges of a long-distance relationship and cultural differences?
Only time will tell if Vanja and her partner’s love story will stand the test of time. But for now, fans can’t help but root for this unexpected happy couple and hope that they will defy the odds and make their love last.

If The Root could sum up 2024 in just two words, they would be “plot twist!” This year kept us all on our toes, and after all of the political mess and unexpected pop culture twists, it might be too much to keep up with.
But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with a list recapping the biggest moments of the year. From lawsuits and divorces to Olympic medal controversies and unbelievable losses, it’s hard to believe all of these things happened in only one year. So, take a look at the biggest plot twists of 2024 that made everyone double take.
The beloved character who was thought to be dead for several seasons suddenly reappears in the finale, revealing they faked their own death to protect their loved ones.
The main protagonist, who was always seen as the hero, is revealed to have been the villain all along, manipulating events behind the scenes for their own gain.
A long-standing rivalry between two characters takes a shocking turn when they unexpectedly team up to take down a common enemy.
A seemingly minor character is revealed to be the key to solving a major mystery that has been plaguing the main characters throughout the entire series.
The romantic relationship that fans have been rooting for since the beginning takes a surprising turn when one of the characters reveals they have been in love with someone else all along.
A character who has always been portrayed as the comic relief suddenly shows a darker, more sinister side, leaving viewers questioning their true motives.
The main storyline takes a supernatural twist when it is revealed that one of the characters has been hiding a supernatural ability that could change the course of the entire series.
A character who has always been portrayed as the underdog suddenly rises to power, becoming the unlikely hero of the story.
A shocking betrayal occurs when one of the main characters turns against their friends, revealing they have been working for the enemy all along.
The series ends with a cliffhanger that leaves viewers questioning everything they thought they knew about the characters and their relationships.
If 2024 was defined by anything, it was a distinct feeling of deja vu. Donald Trump ran and won, Death Cab and Janet Jackson headlined music festivals, and aesthetes on social media lusted after Windows Vista design language circa 2007. Same old, same old – almost. Because 2024 was also the year of unexpected second chances: in some very special cases, those who suffered a fall from grace or otherwise unfortunate first run in the spotlight got another shot at glory. Call it a comeback, a redemption, or deja vu all over again … for better or worse, it was their year once more. .
The Menendez brothers
Before OJ Simpson, the Menendez brothers were America’s most ridiculed defendants – the guys who killed their rich parents, seemingly for the money. By the time both were convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison in the mid-90s, the country had already moved on to gawking at the trial of the century. It’s only since the brothers’ case was revisited in a Netflix docuseries, a Ryan Murphy soap opera and a raft of other deep-dive efforts this year that they have become a justice reform cause for a gen Z crowd that has much broader bandwidth for the nuances of the case than their forebears. Thanks to these efforts, a Los Angeles county superior judge could decide to free the brothers in January. It’s an ending no one would have seen coming when Erik and Lyle were put on trial more than 30 years ago. AL
Sex and the City
The real fantasy of Sex and the City may not be making it in New York, but rather having a tight group of girlfriends to go through it with. Photograph: Photo 12/Alamy
When Sex and the City hit Netflix this spring, many of us couldn’t help but wonder: would gen Z be able to handle a decidedly unwoke 25-year-old series? Turns out, they could: it feels like every woman under 35 watched or rewatched the show this year, liking it much more than they thought they would. Depressing, maybe, that Carrie’s perennial dating woes still feel relatable in 2024, or that the idea of four friends maintaining a close friendship into adulthood feels aspirational. As young people battle a much-discussed loneliness epidemic, the real fantasy of Sex and the City may not be making it in New York or finding Mr Big, but rather having a tight group of girlfriends to go through it with. AD
Cryptocurrency
Bitcoin was the next big thing – until it crashed. Then it rose again – and slumped again. If you had invested, you were an idiot. No, wait, if you hadn’t invested, you were stuck in the stone age. Actually, ethereum was the better move. Or Solana. Or an NFT of Melania Trump’s eyes.
Through all the volatility, and despite the fact that any mention of it signals the beginning of a miserable conversation, cryptocurrency has refused to go away. Now it’s got a special place in the heart of our next president, who promises to make America “the bitcoin superpower of the world”, and his latest sidekick Elon Musk, who has named an as yet fictional agency, the “department of government efficiency (Doge)”, after his favorite digital currency. When fartcoin exists – let alone reaches a $1bn market capitalization – it’s clear crypto is triumphant. MC
Millennials
They’ve always been the generation that got it from both sides: older generations see them as coddled, entitled brats; gen Z uses them as the definitive measure of uncoolness. They’ve been mocked for their pauses on TikTok, their socks and their side parts. Meanwhile, they reached young adulthood in a recession, had to move back in with their parents, and are often described as the first generation that will earn less than those parents.
If you were making a best comedians list in 2023, there’s a good chance that Katt Williams would have been overlooked entirely given how long it had been since he held audiences captive with his Emmy-winning guest appearance in the TV dramedy Atlanta. But then, three days into 2024, he roared back with a vengeance with a nearly three-hour long interview that’s still breaking the internet. Chatting with the former football great Shannon Sharpe, Williams was totally unfiltered, hitting out at rival comics and at Hollywood for disrespecting him. But it was his P Diddy PSA (if he “wants you to party”, Williams sniped, “you got to tell him no!”) that had the internet calling him a prophet once the hip-hop mogul’s empire came crashing down mere months later. The interview, viewed more than 85m times on YouTube alone, paved the way for Williams’s comedy special on Netflix and his acting return in One of Them Days, the Keke Palmer-SZA buddy comedy that hits theaters in January. AL
Cat ladies
When JD Vance described Kamala Harris supporters as “childless cat ladies”, he meant it as a diss. But the line quickly became a rallying cry, a reappropriation in line with 2016’s “nasty woman” in pink pussy hats. Taylor Swift signed her endorsement of Harris as “childless cat lady”, Etsy stores began selling merch and social media feeds flooded with the term. Once associated with batty, single women approaching midlife, being a childless cat lady became a badge of pride. Dog people had their pandemic moment; cat people, it’s your turn now. AD
Roasts
In an age when insult comedy is never more than a scroll away, the idea of a modern roast seemed as antiquated as those old Dean Martin infomercials. But if the past year made anything clear, it’s that the format can keep up with the times – whether it’s Colin Jost emceeing the White House correspondents’ dinner (“We’re all here at nerd prom. Well, Matt Gaetz is at regular prom …”) or Tony Hinchcliffe likening Puerto Rico to a “floating island of garbage” at a Madison Square Garden rally for Trump without the punchline backfiring on him or the now president-elect. But nothing marked the roast’s resurgence quite like the Netflix showcase dedicated to trashing Tom Brady, which was more viewed than standup specials from Dave Chappelle and Katt Williams. So it fits that Netflix would close the year with a roast of 2024, hosted by roastmaster general Jeff Ross. AL
Two years ago, Jessica Tisch, New York City’s then new sanitation commissioner, uttered a phrase that would go down in TikTok infamy: “The rats don’t run this city, we do.” To which the city’s approximately 3 million rats replied: “Oh, really?” In 2024, rodents had their comeback – if we can use that word to describe a perennial vermin. It came via the hot rodent boyfriend, a meme used to describe men who look like Stuart Little (complimentary), such as Timothée Chalamet, Jeremy Allen White and the Challengers star Josh O’Connor. But also, literally, rats became a main character in NYC, which held its first annual, multi-day National Urban Rat summit dedicated to their removal. A true flex to be hated that much. AD
Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series
This was the year LA’s deeply beloved baseball team finally, definitively, actually won it all. Perennial contenders, they’d made it to the playoffs every year for more than a decade, and all the way to the World Series in 2017 and 2018 – only to lose it twice in a row. In 2020, they managed to win it all! … after a Covid-shortened season in which their fans were literal cardboard cutouts. There was no parade.
Finally, in 2024, they won the championship again, in the most definitive way possible: beating baseball’s biggest juggernaut, the New York Yankees. This time, the city got its parade, and made it count: more than 200,000 Angelenos showed up to celebrate. MC
Mike Tyson
Iron Mike was in the last throes of his post-fight evolution – podcaster, cannabis purveyor and tech bro thought leader – when Jake Paul, the YouTuber who only picked up his boxing gloves six years ago, started openly fantasizing about taking on a man who won his first 19 professional bouts by knockout. When the 58-year-old took up the challenge, fight fans feared he was in for another ear-biting low. While the actual match proved to be a damp squib – with Paul taking pity on his boxing idol, thank God – Tyson at least proved less glitchy than Netflix; the streamer struggled to host the more than 120 million viewers who logged on to watch the spectacle. Meanwhile, Tyson netted an estimated $20m. Next up: Jake’s brother, Logan. Maybe. AL
Gypsy Rose Blanchard
It feels like we’ve lived multiple lifetimes since Gypsy Rose Blanchard was released from prison at the tail end of 2023, but for a few months, 2024 really was her year. Blanchard, who pleaded guilty to her role in the murder of her mother, Dee Dee, turned into an unexpected It girl upon re-entry, garnering 7 million Instagram followers, jetting to Paris for fashion week, starring in a Lifetime docuseries and posting colorfully about life with her then husband, Ryan Scott Anderson. (One comment she made about her sex life – “the d is fire” – really had us all in a chokehold for a day or two.) Then she shunned the limelight, deleting social media and divorcing Anderson, before rekindling a romance with an old prison pen pal and returning to social media to talk about her new memoir. The couple expects a baby in January – what a year, indeed. AD
In 2024, the world witnessed a series of unexpected events that seemed to defy all odds. From the resurgence of comedian Katt Williams to the rise of cryptocurrency to the newfound popularity of cat ladies, it was truly a year of second chances.
Katt Williams, known for his quick wit and sharp humor, made a comeback in 2024 that took the entertainment world by storm. After years of battling personal demons and legal troubles, Williams returned to the stage with a renewed sense of purpose and passion. His comedy specials were met with rave reviews, and fans couldn’t get enough of his unique brand of humor.
But it wasn’t just Katt Williams who experienced a resurgence in 2024. Cryptocurrency, once dismissed as a passing fad, exploded in popularity, with Bitcoin and other digital currencies reaching record highs. Investors who had previously written off crypto as a risky investment were now reaping the rewards of their foresight, while newcomers jumped on the bandwagon in droves.
And then there were the cat ladies. Once the subject of ridicule and stereotypes, cat ladies became the unlikely heroes of 2024. With the rise of social media and the internet, cat ownership became a trendy and socially acceptable status symbol. Cat cafes popped up in cities around the world, and Instagram accounts dedicated to feline companions amassed millions of followers. Suddenly, being a cat lady was cool.
In a year filled with unexpected twists and turns, 2024 proved that second chances are always possible. Whether it’s a comedian making a comeback, a once-dismissed investment skyrocketing in value, or a societal stereotype being turned on its head, the year of unexpected second chances showed us that anything is possible. And who knows what surprises the future may hold?

Editor’s note: This article contains spoilers for “Laid.”
“I don’t know anything about love,” laments Stephanie Hsu’s character Ruby at the conclusion of Peacock’s new romantic comedy series “Laid.” The eight-episode season dropped in its entirety on December 19 and follows’s Hsu’s Ruby as she realizes everyone she’s ever slept with, including Michael Angarano, pro wrestler Ettore “Big E” Ewin and, inexplicably, John Early, are dying.
Ruby goes on a journey to find out why this is happening and, in the process, find herself amidst her past conquests, with the help of her best friend and roommate, AJ, played by Zosia Mamet, who puts her true crime obsessive skills to good work tracking down Ruby’s exes and figuring out a timeline: “I wanted to do something for the person I love most. And that’s you.”
It’s a grand gesture for the ages, right up there with running onto an airplane to stop your lover from flying to some far-off locale (as Ruby does in an attempt to prevent Early’s death by plane crash on his way to shoot an Icelandic yoghurt commercial) and getting Letters to Cleo to play on the top of your high school. Ruby even somehow finagles AJ’s ultimate true crime fixation, Amanda Knox, into meeting AJ for dinner.
“Your boyfriend said you always say, ‘If I could just have one hour with Amanda Knox…,” Knox herself says in the “Laid” finale. “Well, I’m Amanda Knox, and you have one hour.”
“We kept the set very small that night because we didn’t want any spoilers and wanted to respect Amanda’s privacy. It wasn’t dissimilar to the scene that we shot,” Mamet told IndieWire. “She’s wonderful and so kind and so smart and so open about her experience. She’s a force. She’s one of the strongest people I’ve ever met.”
Learning to be somewhat selfless, Ruby pretends it’s AJ’s forgettable, pathetic boyfriend Zach (Andre Hyland)—whom Ruby slept with and thus signed his death warrant in a decidedly selfish action — who organized this clandestine supper. But, despite AJ’s hurt, she knows right away that only a best friend would gesture that grandly. Thus, the love story at the center of “Laid”is not with someone who can help Ruby break her curse, but with AJ.
Mamet has made a career of gravitating towards depictions of female friendship, from her breakout in “Girls,” playing high-strung Shoshanna Shapiro, to Aya Cash’s estranged childhood best friend in “You’re the Worst,” to real-life bestie Kaley Cuoco’s on-screen bestie in “The Flight Attendant.”
“It was love at first sight,” Mamet said of her friendship with Cuoco. “The first time we met was my chemistry read with her for that show. We got really, really close while shooting. Shooting a TV show or movie can be a bit of an incubator for relationships because you spend such long hours and so many consecutive days together, so we had circumstances in our favor.
“And then we had the horse girl connection,” Mamet added, reminiscing about how she brought her horse out to stay at Cuoco’s ranch in California, where “The Flight Attendant” relocated to in its second season. Mamet and Cuoco would go riding together on breaks from shooting.
Now Mamet and Cuoco are network stablemates on their new shows, with Cuoco most recently starring in “Based on a True Story,” a true crime caper that “Laid”’s AJ would certainly be at home on. The two attended a Peacock Killer Women in Comedy event in November, along with Hsu, who acts as a producer on “Laid,” helping to bring a laid back vibe to the intense eight-week shoot.
Mamet sings Hsu’s praises, sharing that Hsu found ways to lighten the mood, including a Friday costume contest. “She was not only the face of the show but the beating heart of the entire thing,” Mamet said. “She really sets a beautiful, grateful tone on set and that starts everyone off on the right foot.”
This is in contrast to the souring of Ruby and AJ’s friendship throughout the show. Like all good comedy heroines (paging Carrie Bradshaw), Ruby is a hot mess whose behavior alienates AJ, her family and her colleagues at her party planning job. AJ grows sick of being taken advantage of for her savant-like investigative skills and flexible schedule as a bartender, and at one point kicks Ruby and Zach out of her apartment.
Mamet says that the nuanced portrayal of the struggles female friendship in your thirties can encompass is one of the things that drew her to “Laid.”
“When you’re in your twenties there’s not as much pressure on a friendship. [They] don’t really need a lot of tending,” Mamet said. “You’re just having a good time with one another.”
Or, in the case of “Girls,” just kind of existing in the same scene because that’s what the show called for, despite the unlikelihood of any of those titular girls being friends under different circumstances.
“As we get older and the world is placing pressure on our friendships from the outside, friends become people that you have to lean on more. Suddenly, you end up asking more of your friends and needing more from your friends. When people can’t give you that, it puts a friendship under an examination that doesn’t necessarily feel comfortable,” she continued.
“[Sometimes it’s] not necessarily that anyone’s at fault, but you just grow apart and you start to see that distance forming. It’s a really scary and sad thing that can just happen in life.”
That’s where we find Ruby and AJ in “Laid.” AJ has been giving her time and skills to helping Ruby but, as emerges as they track down Ruby’s exes, Ruby has a penchant for taking.
Though Ruby commits an affront against AJ that any friendship would struggle to come back from, Ruby’s aforementioned grand gesture goes a ways to repairing that, or at least showing AJ that their friendship is the most important thing to her and she’s willing to work not only on herself but on earning AJ’s trust back.
“I don’t think we often think about them like that,” Mamet said. “We think about romantic relationships like that, but not friendships.”
The real sex curse ended up being the friends we made along the way.
“Laid” is streaming on Peacock now.
Have you ever wondered what Amanda Knox has been up to since her infamous trial in Italy? Well, wonder no more because she recently made a surprise cameo in the new Peacock series ‘Laid’ and it is truly an unexpected delight.
In the show, Knox plays a fictionalized version of herself who gets caught up in a murder mystery while on vacation in Italy. The role is a clever nod to Knox’s own legal troubles and adds a layer of intrigue to the already suspenseful storyline.
Knox’s appearance in ‘Laid’ is a refreshing change of pace for the former convicted murderer, showing off her acting chops and sense of humor in a way that many may not have expected. It’s a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there is always room for a little bit of light and laughter.
So if you’re looking for a new show to binge-watch, be sure to check out ‘Laid’ on Peacock and keep an eye out for Amanda Knox’s scene-stealing cameo. Trust me, it’s an unexpected delight you won’t want to miss.

Living with the Unexpected: Linking Disaster Recovery to Sustainable Development
In today’s world, natural disasters and other unexpected events can strike at any moment, leaving communities devastated and in need of urgent assistance. While disaster recovery efforts are crucial in the immediate aftermath of a crisis, it is equally important to consider how these efforts can be linked to sustainable development in the long term.
Sustainable development focuses on meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. By incorporating sustainable practices into disaster recovery efforts, communities can not only rebuild and recover from a disaster, but also ensure their long-term resilience and well-being.
One way to link disaster recovery to sustainable development is through the use of green infrastructure. Green infrastructure, such as rain gardens, permeable pavement, and green roofs, can help to mitigate the impacts of future disasters, such as flooding and extreme weather events, while also providing environmental benefits and improving quality of life for residents.
Another important aspect of linking disaster recovery to sustainable development is ensuring that recovery efforts are inclusive and equitable. This means involving all members of the community in decision-making processes, prioritizing the needs of vulnerable populations, and addressing underlying social and economic inequalities that may have been exacerbated by the disaster.
By taking a holistic approach to disaster recovery that considers the long-term implications for sustainable development, communities can not only recover from a crisis, but also build back stronger, more resilient, and more sustainable than before. Let’s work together to create a future where unexpected events are met with resilience, sustainability, and a commitment to the well-being of all.

Data centers are the backbone of today’s digital world, storing and processing vast amounts of critical data for businesses of all sizes. However, even the most advanced data centers are not immune to disruptions and disasters that can impact their operations. That’s why it’s crucial for data center operators to have a comprehensive business continuity plan in place to ensure that they can continue to deliver reliable services to their clients, even in the face of unforeseen challenges.
Preparing for the unexpected requires careful planning and consideration of key factors that can affect the continuity of data center operations. Here are some important considerations to keep in mind when developing a business continuity plan for your data center:
1. Identify potential risks: The first step in preparing for the unexpected is to identify potential risks that could disrupt your data center operations. This could include natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, or hurricanes, as well as man-made threats such as cyberattacks, power outages, or equipment failures. Conduct a thorough risk assessment to determine the likelihood and impact of each potential threat on your data center.
2. Develop a comprehensive business continuity plan: Once you have identified the risks, develop a comprehensive business continuity plan that outlines how your data center will respond to and recover from these disruptions. This plan should include detailed procedures for mitigating risks, restoring operations, and communicating with stakeholders during a crisis.
3. Implement redundant systems and backups: To minimize the impact of disruptions on your data center operations, implement redundant systems and backups that can quickly take over in the event of a failure. This could include redundant power supplies, backup generators, and duplicate data storage systems to ensure that critical data is always available.
4. Train your staff: Your data center staff are your first line of defense in ensuring business continuity during a crisis. Provide regular training and drills to ensure that your staff are well-prepared to respond to emergencies and follow the procedures outlined in your business continuity plan.
5. Monitor and test your plan regularly: Business continuity planning is an ongoing process, not a one-time activity. Regularly monitor and test your business continuity plan to ensure that it remains effective and up-to-date. Conduct regular drills and exercises to simulate different scenarios and identify any gaps in your plan that need to be addressed.
In today’s fast-paced and interconnected world, data center operators must be prepared for the unexpected. By identifying potential risks, developing a comprehensive business continuity plan, implementing redundant systems and backups, training your staff, and regularly testing your plan, you can ensure that your data center is well-equipped to handle any disruptions that come its way. Remember, when it comes to business continuity, it’s always better to be prepared than to be caught off guard.
